Here Are 20 Couples Who Had to Work Together on Screen After Breaking Up

If you've ever shipped an onscreen couple, then you probably know the feeling of satisfaction that comes with watching your favorite characters fall in love off screen. The problem: the actors playing those characters don't always stay together. There are plenty of couples who've had to work together on screen after breaking up IRL, and we imagine that the experience is pretty awkward. Even if the actors don't share intimate scenes, filming a TV show or movie with an ex means lots of time spent together. Some A-list exes have been able to stay cordial. Others, not so much. Here are just a few celeb costars-turned-couples who had to keep working together after calling it quits.

Practically Everyone Breaks Character During SNL's Hilarious Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben Skit

We all know that the COVID-19 pandemic has hit pockets pretty badly, but has anyone bothered to think about the iconic good mascots? Saturday Night Live did, and pulled off what could be their funniest sketch of the night! During the highly-anticipated post-election episode, Maya Rudolph, Kenan Thompson, and Dave Chappelle showed viewers how things would have went down if Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, and the Allstate Guy had to defend their jobs in real-life.

The brands of the first two characters underwent massive brand changes earlier this year after years of criticism for their racist, stereotypical imagery. But, as Chappelle's "Guy From Waiting to Exhale" (otherwise known as Dennis Haysbert) points out, he's a real person, unlike Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben. And his voice is really damn soothing, we don't want to miss out on that! Somehow, the discussion digressing to the fullness of Pete Davidson. Yes, we meet the comedian, not Count Chocula, who he was playing in the sketch. It's no surprise that practically everyone in the skit almost burst into laughter more than once! Watch the sketch above.

SNL: Dave Chappelle Tackles Trump Loss, COVID-19, and Racial Divide in Post-Election Monologue

Nov. 8 was Dave Chappelle's second time hosting Saturday Night Live after an election, but this time around things are fairly more optimistic. Chappelle famously hosted SNL's Nov. 12, 2016 episode, the first show following Donald Trump's win over Hillary Clinton four years ago. This Saturday, he had the honor of hosting the first show after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's projected win for president-elect and vice president-elect, which unsurprisingly doesn't feature too heavily in Chappelle's opening monologue. (It did happen pretty unexpectedly.) Instead, Chappelle glided through an opening that recalled the memory of his great-grandfather - who was born a slave - Freddy Mercury, Chris Christie, and the COVID pandemic. "Remember life before COVID? I do," Chappelle joked. "Mass shooting every week. Thank God for COVID - someone had to lock these murderous whites up and keep them in the house!"

In the end, Chappelle issued a challenge to his fellow man. "If you're a good white [person], and you actually want to help, then join me. Random acts of kindness for Black people. Do something nice for a Black person just because they're Black, and you gotta make sure they don't deserve it," he said. "The same way . . . they did terrible things to Black people just because they're Black and they didn't deserve it. If you driving through the hood and you see a Black dude selling crack, destroying his community, buy him some ice cream. He'll be suspicious, but he'll take it." Watch the monologue above.

SNL: Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph Celebrate Election Win With a Little Dancing and Gloating

Saturday Night Live kicked off its special post-election episode with - what else? - the projected win of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the new president and vice president. Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph returned to reprise their roles as Biden and Harris, respectively, parodying the elects' winning speeches. Rudolph even re-created Harris's all-white suit, which means the SNL wardrobe team truly deserves all the awards for crafting up so quickly! "To all the little Black and brown girls out there - the reason your mom is laughing so much tonight is because she's drunk, and the reason she's crying is because she's drunk," Rudolph's Harris said, which, mood. Though Carrey's Biden noted that he and Harris wouldn't gloat about their win, the pair did dance to the iconic "You About to Lose Your Job," so you know the vibes. As Carrey so eloquently put it, "These are the times where there must be a winner and a LOSER!"

Alec Baldwin also returned to give Donald Trump's concession speech (which he still hasn't given in real life), which reminded us of the president's briefing from Nov. 5. Watch the sketch above!

Celebrities Who Never Endorsed Biden-Harris Seem Too Comfortable Claiming Their Victory

Over the past few months, several celebrities have tirelessly gone to bat for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the hopes of seeing them become the next president and vice president. On Nov. 7, their efforts came to fruition when the duo were declared the projected winners of the 2020 election. These stars certainly have reason to take pride in their contributions. However, consider me a little skeptical about the celebrities suddenly coming out of the woodwork as silent Biden-Harris supporters all along.

If you're following an influencer on social media, I can almost guarantee you've come across a vague request to "Vote" or "Let your voice be heard!" There were pushes to register, to perform your civic duty, to make sure every vote is counted. In elections past that might've been enough. But in 2020, those efforts don't cut it. We're battling for Black lives, for the LGBTQ+ community, for affordable healthcare, for a path through a deadly pandemic. We demand more.

We're battling for Black lives, for the LGBTQ+ community, for affordable healthcare, for a path through a deadly pandemic. We demand more.

You could see my eyebrows nearly touch my hairline when Kendall Jenner shared her reaction to the progressive win. "We did it!" she wrote on her Instagram Story. My first thought was, who did it? I certainly don't remember an endorsement post on her 'gram. To give credit where it's due, Kendall has been vocal about getting people engaged in the election. She opened up her platform of 141 million followers when she hosted Vote Save America on her Instagram Live and added a voting message to her Halloween costume. These were certainly efforts toward turnout, but a Biden-Harris endorsement they were not.

Her sister, Kim Kardashian, also shared a number of photos of the president-elect and vice president-elect on her social media following the election results, raising skepticism from her followers. Kim was famously cagey about where her allegiances lay, presumably because her husband, Kanye West, also launched a presidential campaign. West was never a viable candidate for this race, however, and Kim never formally endorsed him either. If she was vying for Joe Biden all along, it would've been nice to let her 191 million followers know.

The issue doesn't start or stop with a reality TV family, although they're among the few top-followed Instagram accounts that never endorsed a candidate. (Celebrities like Ariana Grande, Lizzo, and Taylor Swift used their massive platforms to firmly throw their support behind the Democratic candidates.) This reluctance to publicly pick a candidate reached the corners of TikTok where influencers like Addison Rae - who shares content with almost 70 million fans - have kept quiet about their votes. Comedian Kevin Hart also took a similar stance and reposted celebratory election content without ever endorsing Biden-Harris.

There's an argument to be made that celebrities shouldn't have to share their political opinions with fans. They're personal. They're private. But if you're passionate enough about a candidate to publicly celebrate their wins as your own, you should be comfortable cluing your followers in before they cast their ballots. Especially since these stars have influence. That's truly why "celebrity" and "influencer" are interchangeable. Not to harp on the Kardashian-Jenners, but they're proven to have significant sway when they do the bare minimum. Remember when Kylie Jenner posted a thirst trap that doubled as voter registration awareness? Her 'gram increased traffic to Vote.org by 1,500 percent. Imagine what an actual endorsement could've sparked.

Where were you months, weeks, even days ago?

What we needed before (and after) the election was clarity. When celebrities hide behind ambiguity, they distance themselves from communities who may need their help, may need their vote. It's incredibly frustrating for them to resurface after the votes have been cast and the fight has been fought, ready to take part in the celebrations. Where were you months, weeks, even days ago? It's easy to join the party once we've all started celebrating, but don't bother to show up if you never RSVP'd in the first place.

We're Just a Little Bit Obsessed With Annie Murphy and Emily Hampshire's IRL Friendship

Alexis Rose and Stevie Budd may not have much in common on Schitt's Creek, but IRL, the actresses who play them couldn't be closer. For five years and six seasons, Annie Murphy and Emily Hampshire spent endless hours together on set, and judging from all their cute pics together on social media, the two have forged a bond for life. It's a beautiful friendship that almost never happened because - as Annie revealed to Vulture during an April 2018 interview - she originally auditioned to play Stevie but knew she could never pull off the role once she saw Emily perform. "I don't want to live in a world where Emily doesn't play Stevie!" Annie added. And we don't want to live in a world where these two aren't besties. Check out the gallery for their cutest BFF pics of all time.

One Day at a Time: 20 Moments That Show Penelope For the Badass She Is

Bless Pop TV for resuscitating One Day at a Time when Netflix canceled it after just three seasons. The Alvarez family is the epitome of, well, a real family, in all its dazzling glory. With an assortment of delightfully quirky members – uber-woke and headstrong Elena, vivacious and forever young at heart Lydia, charming and outgoing Alex, unaware-at-times Schneider (yes, he's one of them), the tight-knit family knowns how to come around at the end of the day. Despite their differences, they have more in common than they let on – case in point, the way the three ladies devour their bags of Cheetos.

Bridging the gap between the two generations, Penelope (played by the phenomenal Justina Machado) is the glue that holds them all together. To fill the gaping period before season four resumes, here are a few oh-so-relatable gifs that prove that "Mami ain't no chump!"

Tom Holland Promotes Mask Safety in First Spider-Man 3 Photo: "Wear a Mask, I’m Wearing Two"

Some superheroes wear masks to protect their identities, but it looks like Spider-Man has started doubling up on face coverings to protect himself and those around him. In an Instagram post on Nov. 6, Tom Holland shared the first behind-the-scenes photo from the set of Spider-Man 3. "Wear a mask, I'm wearing two," Holland captioned the post, in which he's wearing a white PPE face mask over his redesigned black and red spidey suit. The shot's blue screen background doesn't give away much about the unnamed sequel to Far From Home, but catching a glimpse of Holland back in costume (with proper safety gear, no less!) has us even more excited to see him take on Electro and save the day. Listen to your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man and wear a mask, and take a sneak peek at Holland filming Spider-Man 3 ahead.

You're Not Alone in Thinking The Mandalorian Theme Song Sounds Very Familiar

From the moment I heard the opening chords of The Mandalorian's theme song, I knew it reminded me of something, I just couldn't put my finger on what. It bothered me that I couldn't figure out what song I kept trying to hum along with it and Shazam wasn't any help - it just kept telling me the name of the theme song. Oddly enough, it wasn't until I was flipping through channels and came across Tropic Thunder that it hit me: the song it reminded me of was "Ball of Confusion" by The Temptations.

The bass line of the two songs are so similar that it's easy to start singing, "People movin' out, people movin' in," as the opening credits of each Mandalorian episode rolls. "I wanted the core soul to be organic. Then I wanted to add a tech sound to it," Ludwig Göransson, the composer of the theme song, previously told The Los Angeles Times. It's very much the cutting-edge vibe that The Temptations went for with "Ball of Confusion." Don't believe me? You can check out the mash-up of the two songs above or listen to each of the songs on their own ahead. While you're listening to the songs, try imagining The Child grooving to The Temptations while Mando shakes his head.

Honestly, Tayshia Adams's Interview With Jimmy Kimmel Proves She's the Cutest Bachelorette

Normally, when one of Bachelor Nation appears on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the grilling is so intense that the interview is more nerve-wracking than enjoyable! But when new Bachelorette Tayshia Adams made her appearance on Nov. 6, all we could think about is how sweet the former phlebotomist is!

Kimmel didn't waste any time getting into the nitty-gritty questions with Adams, questioning when Adams was called up by production to replace Clare Crawley after the older woman's surprise engagement to Dale Moss ended her time on the show prematurely. When the new Bachelorette danced around the question, all bets were off for the late-night host! He asked about her quarantine, whether she was able to chat with Clare about the remaining suitors, and he even threw out wife Molly McNearney's predictions for Adams's final four guys. Despite her repeated utterance of all forms of the word "honestly," it's safe to say that Adams played everything close to the chest and wasn't spilling any tea to Kimmel.

We guess the self-proclaimed "Rosetradamus" is just going to have to try again another time! In the meantime, we'll be here checking out Adams's new promotional photos, looking regal as the new queen of The Bachelorette.

AOC's Advice For Dealing With Vitriol: Choosing Yourself "Disqualifies All the Haters"

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Princess Nokia are inspiring young voters just a day before the election. In a candid conversation in partnership with Rolling Stone and Stacey Abrams's Fair Fight Action, the Bronx natives - who jokingly called themselves twins - sat down over Zoom on Nov. 2 to chat about the condescension towards young people in politics, how their roots have influenced their work in both political and cultural spaces, and dealing with toxicity and bullying in their respective industries.

"You're either going to believe all of these horrible things about you or you're going to choose yourself and you're going to believe in yourself."

In a particularly inspirational moment, the congresswoman offered sound advice for handling the vitriol and criticism that both she and Nokia have faced. "You're either going to believe all of these horrible things about you or you're going to choose yourself and you're going to believe in yourself," AOC said as she opened up about the bullying she's experienced. "You're going to choose yourself, and that just automatically disqualifies all the haters," she continued. "You don't have to prove your worth to anybody. You don't need to be anything to be worthy."

Following the uplifting discussion, the two, who relate as young women from the Bronx now in influential positions, also urged people to cast their votes on Election Day. "In many ways, it's a small gesture, but it is a powerful gesture," said the congresswoman. "So make sure we all turn out to vote and stand in your power." Check out their conversation in full above.

If You Made Fun of Lil Nas X's Halloween Costume, You're Part of the Problem

By now you've probably seen Lil Nas X's amazing Halloween tribute to Nicki Minaj. While many on Twitter immediately gave it the recognition and the love it deserved, there were plenty of trolls who were quick to resort to both homophobic and transphobic insults. The unwarranted backlash Lil Nas X received from the trolls begs the question: Why is it more permissible for certain straight cisgender men to dress up as women, but the minute Lil Nas X does, people are up in arms over it?

"Why is it more permissible for certain straight cisgender men to dress up as women, but the minute Lil Nas X does, people are up in arms over it?

Bad Bunny dressing in drag for his "Yo Perreo Sola" music video didn't receive as much outright hate or as many transphobic comments. When Quincy Brown dressed as Frida Kahlo this year, the comment section of his Instagram was full of praise. There seems to be this unspoken rule that so long as a man is either dressing as a woman for a joke or is purposefully "unattractive" in womenswear, then it's cool. To be clear: Lil Nas X absolutely killed it as Nicki Minaj. His costume was so good he might as well have been a doppelgänger. Yet, people asked if he was transgender. That suggests that those making fun of his costume, or those trying to bring him down, subscribe to the antiquated assumption that transgender women aren't women - they're simply gay men in disguise. It also reasons that the people making these comments are so caught up in their sense of self they don't realize everything isn't about them. Lil Nas X didn't dress up as Nicki Minaj for you, he dressed as Nicki Minaj for himself because it made him happy.

People think they're extremely clever when they make homophobic or transphobic remarks under the guise of "constructive criticism." They're not open to learning and are a part of the reason Lil Nas X kept who he is, hidden for so long. He was afraid to let people know he was a Barb because he was worried about how it would affect his rap career if people assumed he was gay before his coming out. Even now, it's these comments that make it hard for others to have fun and enjoy themselves because they'll be harassed. Not too long after posting his costume, Lil Nas X tweeted, "bro I don't bother a soul in this industry. All I do is tweet and make bangers. Leave me alone damn." But can people leave him alone? No, they have to tell him that he's ruining families' lives, even though his life literally doesn't affect them.

Toxic masculinity is f*cked up, and until we start recognizing society's double standards, people like Lil Nas X won't ever be free.

When heterosexual cisgender men wear skirts or makeup or dress in womenswear, it's considered groundbreaking - at least where gender norms are concerned. When it comes to what a person wears, especially something as fun and silly as a Halloween costume, it shouldn't matter what a person's sexuality is. Clothes are clothes, regardless of who wears them. Lil Nas X recently tweeted that, "grown men are waking up to have group discussions about a costume I wore on Halloween." For every conversation about how great his costume was, there's likely one about how his costume is the downfall of society. Toxic masculinity is f*cked up, and until we start recognizing society's double standards, people like Lil Nas X won't ever be free.

It's okay to be jealous of Lil Nas X's costume because of how spot-on it was. What's not okay is to use his costume as the brunt of offensive jokes or as a vehicle to perpetuate your outdated worldview.

Julie Andrews Spills All the Tea in the Teaser For Shonda Rhimes's Netflix Drama, Bridgerton

Shonda Rhimes may be done with ABC's Scandal, but that doesn't mean she's done spilling the tea! The first teaser for Netflix's Shondaland-produced drama Bridgerton has arrived, and there is so much dirty laundry exposed, even Olivia Pope would need some assistance.

Inspired by the bestselling novels, the series follows Daphne Bridgerton, the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut during Regency London's social season. Daphne has high hopes to follow in her parents' footsteps of making a match sparked by true love, but she quickly learns that the competitive marriage market is no place for naivety. Especially with Lady Whistledown on the prowl! Voiced by Julie Andrews, the mysterious Lady is the writer of a high society scandal sheet, and it's safe to say she's got her eye on everything that goes down during the social season. When Daphne becomes entangled with London's most desirable duke, the brooding and rebellious Duke of Hastings, she and her family must grapple with power struggles, love triangles, and all sorts of adventures, with all of London's eyes on them.

It'll be said a lot, but Bridgerton is an inspired combination of Downton Abbey and Gossip Girl, one that fans of both will surely enjoy. And like a perfectly wrapped present for us all, Netflix is releasing the eight-episode season on Dec. 25. Check out the trailer ahead, as well as photos from the season, and get ready to be embroiled in the drama of high society once again!

Prince William Tested Positive for Coronavirus Earlier This Year and the World Had No Idea

Prince William tested positive for coronavirus earlier this year, according to the BBC who cited sources directly from the palace. He was rumoured to have taken a seven-day break from calls and meetings between April 9th and 16th leading the public to believe he may well have contracted the virus back in early April, however this has not yet been confirmed.

The choice to hide the diagnosis from the public, came in an attempt to focus on the more important things going on as Prince William "did not want to worry anyone", a source told The Sun. Adding to this, BBC's Royal Correspondent stated that "the palace also tries to preserve some privacy for the Royal family." Prince William was reportedly treated by palace doctors and ensured his family's safety by isolating in their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall. Kensington palace refused to comment on the news, however have not denied reports of his diagnosis.

Prince Charles also contracted the virus back in March, and spent seven days self-isolating in Scotland following some mild symptoms. During that time, the Duchess of Cornwall tested negative for the virus and self-isolated for 14 days. News of Prince William's diagnosis comes just as England is set to enter a 4-week national lockdown.

The Undoing: So . . . Does This Mean Jonathan Is the Father of Elena's Baby? Let's Investigate

HBO's The Undoing is basically one twist after another. In the premiere episode of the six-part miniseries, Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis) is brutally murdered, and now it looks like Jonathan Fraser (Hugh Grant) may be responsible for her death. Not only that, but he also might be the father of her newborn baby.

If you've read Jean Hanff Korelitz's You Should Have Known, the novel on which the show is based, then you already know that Jonathan turns out to be the father of Elena's younger son. It's unclear if series creator David E. Kelley decided to stick to the same storyline for the show, but judging from the latest episode, it's certainly looking that way.

In the second episode, we find out that Jonathan was secretly having an affair with Elena prior to her death, and Elena's husband, Fernando Alves (Ismael Cruz Córdova), has demanded a paternity test, insisting to police that he's not the father of Elena's baby. Shortly after, we see Grace Fraser (Nicole Kidman) having visions of Jonathan and Elena having sex, which could be Kelley's way of subtly confirming that Jonathan is indeed the father, or it could simply be for artistic purposes. The news of Jonathan and Elena's affair explains why Elena was particularly taken by Grace when they first met, however, we're still left wondering about the paternity of Elena's baby. With four episodes left, hopefully we'll get some answers soon!

Janel Parrish's Hallmark Film, Holly & Ivy, Will Give You All the Feels: "It Has So Much Heart"

Janel Parrish knows a good holiday movie sometimes makes you laugh and cry, which is why she was so drawn to Hallmark's Holly & Ivy. The film - which premieres on Nov. 1 on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries - follows the Pretty Little Liars actress as a young woman named Melody who creates a special bond with her new next-door neighbor Nina (Marisol Nichols) and her two daughters, Holly and Ivy. However, when Nina finds out an illness has returned, their lives are changed forever, and Melody quickly becomes part of their little family.

As a big fan of Christmas movies herself, Parrish was excited to make her Hallmark debut. "It's my favorite holiday," she told POPSUGAR. "I have so many traditions in my family. Christmas movies are always playing in the house even as early as right around Thanksgiving time. So I'm excited to start even earlier this year because our movie airs Nov. 1. To be able to bring Christmas cheer to people, especially right now, is really wonderful. Especially in a crazy time where we're all going through crazy things. Even this movie, the message of trauma, sometimes bringing about the most beautiful things if you let it, that message really stuck with me."

Even though the film's storyline is bittersweet as Melody, a former foster child herself, promises to take care of Nina's kids in the event that something happens, Parrish said she was drawn to the story because "it has so much heart." "I really love the idea of chosen family, that she meets these people and immediately forms this bond with them," she said. "Even though they're not her flesh and blood, she chooses them as family. When we have people in our lives that are family, we do anything for them. I also loved how they spoke about adoption. I feel like that doesn't get touched upon a lot in movies, and it's just really wonderful to watch a film about that."

Parrish was also inspired by how resilient her character is. "[My favorite part about playing Melody was] how strong she is," she said. "She hasn't had the easiest life and the easiest upbringing, but no matter what, she still perseveres. She's very much a woman who knows what she wants out of life. [She] hasn't had the best cards dealt to her, but she believes that she is going to have the life that she deserves, and she finds that no matter what. I loved her inner strength."

"We all have the capacity to feel joy, even when things are hard."

Though Parrish admitted she cried her eyes out over the ending, she hopes the film "brings much-needed cheer." "We're all in need of it," she said. "It reminds us of the things that are so important that we all have, which is family time. We all have the capacity to feel joy, even when things are hard. This movie will be a great reminder of that. Christmas is a time where you snuggle up with your family and you spend time with them and be together. I hope that people have a good therapeutic happy cry when they see this film."
