3 Quick Stretches to Help Relieve Shoulder Soreness, According to a Trainer
Since I started working from home, I have struggled with regular shoulder pain for the first time in my life. Hunching over my laptop is likely to blame. Now, I'm always looking for quick new ways to take a break during the work day to stretch out my shoulders.
In an answer to my prayers, Australian personal trainer and exercise physiologist Amanda Bisk recently took to Instagram to demonstrate three simple stretches to help alleviate shoulder pain. She also breaks down the common sources of achy shoulders, explaining that "many cases of shoulder pain (but not all) can be caused by imbalances in the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint and the shoulder blade."
The stretches in Bisk's sequence are intended to target the Pec Minor, a muscle that she says gets tights from hunched posture, and the Infraspinatus, a part of your Rotator Cuff that can cause a "dull ache."
Remember, stretching isn't always the solution for shoulder pain. So if you have any concerns, check in with a physical therapist or your doctor about your discomfort.
If you want to try Bisk's stretches for yourself, you can follow along with the video. Bisk recommends holding each position for 10 long, deep breaths and repeating the sequence twice. She suggests doing these stretches twice a week or, if you have particularly tight shoulders, before or after every workout.
Be sure to listen to your body and stop if you experience any pain.
Seated Pec
"Fingers point forward, walk your hands back a few steps. Roll your shoulders back and down + press your chest up to the sky. To increase the stretch, bend your elbows but try to keep your chest lifted. To increase again, aim to squeeze elbows together."
Lying Twist
"Bend elbows into 'cactus arms', bend one knee and reach that foot back to twist. Rest your head on the ground + use your hand to push into the ground to increase stretch."
Rotator Cuff
"This is my favourite! Looks weird, but works so well! Knuckles should be at sides of rib cage, use your knees to apply pressure and deepen stretch. Bring chin to chest + round upper back to increase stretch."
You can modify the Rotator Cuff stretch with one arm if you are especially tight in the shoulders.

Ryan Murphy Is Bringing Back Your Favorite American Horror Story Stars For the Spinoff
It's been six months since Ryan Murphy first announced that there is an American Horror Story spinoff in the works, and now we're finally getting details! According to Murphy, the series will consist of 16 standalone episodes "delving into horror myths, legends and lore," and they will include familiar faces from the FX franchise.
It's the AHS spin off. We are doing 16 one hour stand alone episodes delving into horror myths, legends and lore...many of these episodes will feature AHS stars you know and love. More to follow...
- Ryan Murphy (@MrRPMurphy) November 12, 2020
Unlike American Horror Story, which is an anthology with a number of storylines creating the bulk of a season, the spinoff would be "one-hour contained episodes." This means that if you often find yourself confused by a season of AHS, this will be for you. The spinoff will air on FX and not Netflix, despite his recent $300 million deal.
In an American Horror Story cast Zoom call, which wasn't made public, Murphy and crew "reminisced about the good times" (like when the cast could actually get together in person) before he let everyone in on the good news. Our minds are hard at work imagining all the stories that will be told.

Matthew Perry Just Confirmed the Friends Reunion Is Happening in March
We could not be more excited: the Friends reunion is happening for real! It's been rumored for some time that there would be a reunion special of the iconic sitcom, and now it's officially in the works. So when can we watch our favorites back together again?
According to Matthew Perry, it's all happening in March 2021. "Friends reunion being rescheduled for the beginning of March. Looks like we have a busy year coming up. And that's the way I like it!" Perry tweeted on Nov. 12.

The Friends reunion special was initially supposed to go hand in hand with the launch of HBO Max this past May. However, due to concerns surrounding the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), production was pushed back.
HBO Max famously snapped up the streaming rights to the entire original series of Friends, which left its previous streaming home at Netflix in November 2019. The Friends reunion will be a major must-see event right off the bat for HBO's new streaming service, which enters an increasingly crowded and competitive market for streaming.
"Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together - we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library," Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max, said in a statement in THR. "I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends - and audiences - gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans."
THR also reported that the special will be filmed on Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, CA, where the original series was shot. All six of the original stars are signed on and will also executive produce, along with a slew of other producers. The six cast members shared the news to their respective Instagrams, all using the same promotional image and the caption "It's happening" - except for Matt LeBlanc, whose post had the same caption but jokingly used a photo of the M*A*S*H cast instead.
You Don't Need a Gym to Build Muscle - Here's How to Do It at Home, According to Experts
While losing weight is all about burning calories, building muscle is a different story. If you're looking to increase your muscle mass, there are certain things you can do to optimize your workouts.
First, a quick anatomy lesson on muscles and how they're built. "There are a variety of factors that influence muscle growth, from exercise and nutrition to age, hormones, gender, and even sleep," Susanna Kalnes, an ACE-certified group fitness instructor and creator of the new, music-driven strength format CHISEL, told POPSUGAR. "But generally speaking, the way you build muscle is by tearing down or damaging your muscle fibers so that they fuse together, rebuild, and grow."
This process is called muscle hypertrophy and the good news is you don't need to be at a gym to achieve it. POPSUGAR spoke to several experts for tips on how to build muscle at home.

Tips for Making Your Workout More Challenging When You Have Just One Set of Dumbbells
Working out at home has its perks, from convenience to comfort, but one potential shortcoming is a lack of equipment. Whether you are working with minimal storage space or don't want to spend money on new fitness gear right now, you may find yourself feeling stuck in a rut with your same old single set of dumbbells.
Certified personal trainer Alexia Clark knows how you feel, and she has a few ideas for how to challenge yourself even if you only have one set of weights. These ideas also may come in handy if you have another, heavier set of dumbbells, but don't feel ready to graduate to that next level. She shared her three-step advice in an Instagram video, demonstrating each technique with a dumbbell front arm raise.
The first way to add an extra challenge to your strength training is "time under tension." In the video, Clark holds the dumbbells at her sides and lifts them up for three seconds, then down for three seconds. According to Clark's Instagram caption, "this forces your muscles to work harder and optimizes muscular strength, endurance and growth."
Next is adding a pulse - the short range of motion keeps the muscles contracted, Clark explains.
And finally, add a negative. "Negative training makes a deeper inroad during each repetition," she writes, "which stimulates natural muscle-building growth hormone."
If you're looking for other workouts that require minimal or no equipment, you can check out these 10 arm-sculpting exercises, or this five-move arm and ab workout using paper plates.

McDonald's Is Adding a New Plant-Based McPlant Burger to Its Menu
Good news for vegetarians and fast-food fans alike - this week, McDonald's announced that it will finally offer a plant-based meat substitute. In a blog post, McDonald's unveiled plans for a plant-based burger, aptly called the McPlant. The meatless patty will be served on a sesame-seed bun with classic toppings.
"There are other plant-based burgers out there, but the McPlant delivers our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe your mouth) kind of sandwich," the blog post reads.
Related: A Meat Eater Answers Your Burning Question - Does a Beyond Burger Taste Like Beef?
It did not disclose the specific plant ingredients used in the patty or any information about the suppliers McDonald's plans to use. The fast-food chain described the new burger as crafted "by McDonald's, for McDonald's."
However, a spokesperson for Beyond Meat told CNBC that the popular meat-substitute producer cocreated the plant-based patty that will be used in the McPlant roll-out with McDonald's. The two companies previously collaborated on Beyond's P.L.T. burger, which was tested at McDonald's locations in Canada last year.
Though there's no official release date, some locations are expected to begin testing the veggie burger next year. With the release, McDonald's will join the handful of other fast-food restaurants offering plant-based alternatives to typical drive-through fare, including Burger King, White Castle, and Carl's Jr.

Peloton Just Announced the Release Date For Its Smaller, Less Expensive Tread
The Peloton fitness program seems more popular than ever, as many are increasingly making the switch to at-home workouts. But the hefty price tag of its top-of-the-line machinery - the Bike, the Bike+, and the Tread+ - may understandably deter those who are trying to decide whether or not home-workout equipment is a worthwhile investment.
Now, however, an exciting new product launch might make the beloved exercise brand more accessible. This week, Peloton announced the details for the Peloton Tread, a smaller, lower-priced version of the Tread+.
The Tread will be available for purchase in March of 2021 for $2,495, compared to $4,295 for the original Tread+ treadmill.
This is admittedly still a steep price to pay for a treadmill, but at nearly half the cost of the Tread+, you are still getting the Peloton perks of an HD touchscreen and sound system to stream classes that will transport you from your living room to a high-end fitness studio. The cost includes delivery fees, though it does not include the $39/month subscription for unlimited classes.
Aside from the price, the main difference between the Tread and the Tread+ is that the former has a traditional treadmill belt, whereas the latter has a shock-absorbing slat belt. If you are already used to running on a regular treadmill, the Tread belt will not be any different.
The reduced size is also a big change, making it easier to find room for the machine in your home. The dimensions are 68 inches long by 33 inches wide by 62 inches high - smaller in length than most couches. The Tread+, meanwhile, measured 72.5 inches long by 32.5 inches wide by 72 inches tall.
Despite these differences, the Tread actually still has many of the same features that sets the Tread+ apart from other treadmills on the market.
In addition to the touch screen and speakers, there are user-friendly control knobs and jump buttons to easily add speed or incline. Both machines also forgo the clunky plastic shroud typically found at the front of treadmills, contributing to a sleeker look and greater range of motion.
Of course, there are lots of factors to consider when making such a significant purchase, but there's plenty of time until March to think about whether the Peloton Tread is right for you and your fitness goals. In the meantime, you can try out the new treadmill for yourself in Peloton stores across the US.

Ciara Filmed the Joyful Moment She Told Her Daughter About Kamala Harris's Historic VP Win
Ciara celebrated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's projected election win with her family, and she wanted her daughter, Sienna, to know exactly why this is a victory for all women. On Nov. 7, after Pennsylvania's votes pushed the politicians into winning territory, Ciara shared her reaction to the president-elect and vice president-elect on Instagram.
"How amazing is it that the first woman vice president is in the White House?" Ciara asked her 3-year-old. "And she's also a woman of color. It's so powerful. We can do anything we put our minds to, right?" Sienna sweetly echoed her words, and added a "Go girls! Go everybody!"
Sienna also added a quick "and the COVID's over!" before Ciara quickly corrected her - "COVID's not quite over sunshine." We're with you there, Sienna, we wish all that good news came at once. However, Ciara has high hopes for Biden's administration and so do we. "I believe that Joe Biden, President Biden, is going to be the right president to get us on the right track." Stretch Out Tight Wrists Before Yoga With This 10-Minute Arianna Elizabeth Video
Stretching is an important part of exercise that can protect you from injury and improve your flexibility. However, sometimes people focus on stretching certain parts of their bodies, like their backs and legs, and end up neglecting others, like their wrists.
Between working out and typing on a laptop for an extended period of time, the activities you may engage in on a daily basis can leave your wrists feeling super sore. If that sounds familiar, there's no need to worry. Arianna Elizabeth, a fitness influencer and certified yoga instructor, has a wrist-stretching warmup that might help.
The stretching sequence in the 10-minute YouTube video is meant to be used as a warmup before a yoga session. "It is super important to definitely stretch your wrists out before you start," Elizabeth explains in the video. "Especially if you're not super familiar with Down Dog, sometimes it can feel like there's a lot of pressure on your wrists."
For people with weaker wrists in particular, which Elizabeth stresses is totally normal, warming up with some stretches is a key step in strengthening them.
Related: Tackle Work-Related Typing Pain With These Easy Wrist Exercises
Elizabeth talks viewers through exercises such as wrist circles, flexing your wrists, and rolling your wrists out with your fingers interlaced. She then transitions into a tabletop position on her hands and knees, and eventually into Downward Facing Dog. The Downward Facing Dog portion of the stretch is optional, though she gives helpful tips on how to make the position more comfortable.
Check out the video to try the stretches for yourself, and remember to take rest breaks or make modifications whenever you need them.

Major Networks Cut Away From Trump's Latest and "Most Dishonest" Speech
On Nov. 5 around 6:30PM, Donald Trump led a press briefing at the White House to address the ongoing ballot counting set to determine the winner of the 2020 presidential election. After Trump alleged that the US's electoral voting system is "corrupt" and falsely claimed a victory in Pennsylvania, prematurely declaring himself the winner of the election, several major networks - including MSNBC, ABC News, CBS News, and NBC - refused to finish airing the remainder of his speech. "Here we are again in the unusual position of not only interrupting the President of the United States but correcting the President of the United States . . ." Brian Williams said following MSNBC's broadcast. CNN fact checker Daniel Dale tweeted that it was the "most dishonest" speech he has witnessed Trump give since he began covering his presidential speeches in 2016.
Historically, Trump has used his platform to make false claims about health care, climate change, racial justice, crowd sizes and other key issues. During his speech on Nov. 5, the President said that mail-in voting threatens the integrity of the election as a result of "tremendous corruption and fraud," falsely citing "tens of millions" of unsolicited ballots and secret ballots counted after election day. "If you count the legal votes I easily win," he said, despite no evidence supporting this claim. "If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us." This is incorrect.
An influx of mail-in ballots has lengthened the ballot counting process across America, as expected. As the remaining mail-in ballots continue to be counted, Trump's lead in states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia is narrowing. This is because Democrats were more likely to vote by mail than Republicans in the 2020 election.
As of the time of Trump's speech, Biden led the election with between 253 and 264 confirmed electoral votes, according to leading news sources. See the broadcast portion of Trump's speech above.
