Fitness Club,Fitness Articles,Life Fitness,Training Program,Workout:Is Olive or Coconut Oil Better For You?

Just when you thought olive oil was the absolute healthiest oil, now you keep hearing about coconut oil. Both contain healthy fats known as monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFAs, which can lower total cholesterol levels. This can reduce a person's risk for stroke as well as heart problems like high blood pressure. MUFAs can also improve insulin sensitivity, which is great news for those with type 2 diabetes. Incorporating these healthy fats into your diet can also help with weight loss. So is one oil better than the other?

Related: 19 Unusual Uses For Coconut Oil

Let's first compare them nutritionally. The chart below shows a similarity in calorie and total fat amount. The daily recommendation for total daily fat should be between 33 and 55 grams. For saturated fat, the daily limit shouldn't exceed 16 grams. Although coconut oil does contain more saturated fat, it's primarily lauric acid. This saturated fat is different than those found in animal products because it has an unusually high amount of medium-chain fatty acids, which are harder for our bodies to store and easier to burn. Lauric acid also increases both levels of HDL (good) and LDL (bad) cholesterol levels; while coconut oil isn't thought to negatively affect overall cholesterol levels, some experts say to use coconut oil in small amounts to be on the safe side. The chart also shows that olive oil contains significantly more monounsaturated fats - over five times as many - so in comparison, olive oil offers more health-beneficial MUFA bang for your buck.

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Calories 119 116
Total fat (g) 14 14
Saturated fat (g) 1 12
Monounsaturated fat (g) 9.8 0.8
Polyunsaturated fat (g) 1.4 0.2
Cholesterol (mg) 0 0

As far as weight loss is concerned, including healthy fats in your diet can make you feel fuller, which can translate to fewer daily calories consumed. A diet rich in MUFAS has also been shown to reduce belly fat, and a few small weight-loss studies have shown that coconut oil can reduce waist size. Coconut oil is also slightly lower in calories, so over time, that little difference could add up.

Both oils are great for salad dressings and sauces, but for recipes that require higher heat such as roasting or stir-frying, choose olive oil. Coconut oil is great for light sautéing and also for baking - if you're vegan, coconut oil makes a great substitute for butter since it gives baked goods that same flaky, rich consistency and taste.

Neither olive nor coconut oil are magic elixirs for weight loss, though. It's not like just because you deep-fry french fries in coconut oil, you'll lose 10 pounds. Since both are calorie-dense, they should be used in moderation. And be sure to choose unrefined virgin coconut oil to reap the health benefits.

Beauty Supply, beauty magazine, beautiful homes, beautiful skin: Kylie Jenner's New Tattoo Will Totally Inspire You

Though the Kardashian-Jenner family has mostly been sharing snaps of their Christmas gifts over the past few days, Kylie took a quick break late Sunday evening to post a picture of her newest ink. Her tattoo comes courtesy of NYC-based artist Bang Bang, who has worked with Rihanna and Justin Bieber.

The red "\ˈsa-nə-tē\" design across the star's hip looks unusual at first glance, but it actually just says "sanity" in the International Phonetic Alphabet, which is used to represent sounds and pronunciation in any language (you may have seen it in dictionaries).

Kylie has been very busy in 2015, especially in the past few months - after all, she launched Lip Kit by Kylie! - so perhaps her new tattoo is a reminder to relax. That said, this word is a good one for anybody looking for their first ink. Sometimes you just need something to ground you, and every time you look at this, it will inspire you to take a deep breath.

Healthy,Food Magazine,Healthy Recipes,Food Guide :How to Open a Stubborn Jar With Ease

It's frustrating when a jar lid is exceptionally hard to remove. I always hear my father's voice say, "pretend you're on a desert island and that's all you have to eat." After a childhood of that, I've figured out a no-fail trick for opening difficult jars. The secret ingredient? A spoon. Here's what you do:

  1. Hold the spoon in one hand and the jar firmly in the other.
  2. Nestle the spoon in the crack between the lid and the glass. Push up and back. You want to break the seal.
  3. Press up with the spoon to loosen the lid. If the seal does not break, rotate the jar and repeat, pressing up and back with the spoon until you hear a pop.
  4. Let go of the spoon and twist the lid off. It will come of smoothly and easily.

How do you deal with frustrating lids? What's your trick to remove them?

Like most of the epic braids we envy, we first spotted the cage braid on Instagram. The plait is a combination of the classic french and a fishtail. A central braid sits between little waterfalls of hair that move from the outside in. The finished plait looks just like a ribcage. At first glance, it seems impossible to do at home, but it is a lot easier to achieve than it looks (we promise!). T3 celebrity hairstylist David Lopez broke down the twisted style into three simple steps ahead.

Fitness Club,Fitness Articles,Life Fitness,Training Program,Workout:How to Lose Those Last 5 Pounds

In the beginning of a weight-loss journey, pounds melt away like ice cream on a hot Summer's day. But as you get closer to your goal, it's not unusual to hit a plateau. Here's how to keep those pounds dropping and keep the weight off for good.

Beef Up Your Workouts

If you've been steadily working out and following the same schedule, your body has probably grown accustomed to the routine. Rattle your body's chain a little and kick up the intensity of your workouts to further challenge your muscles. Work out longer or harder, increase the size weights you're lifting, do more reps of strength-training moves and vary the order, or try doing two workouts in one day.

Go For Fiber

Since your metabolism is already working pretty efficiently, eat fibrous foods that take longer to digest so your body has to expend more energy to break them down. Fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts, and legumes are where it's at, but focus on these foods with the highest amounts of fiber.

Munch On These Foods

Imbalances in your digestive tract have been linked to weight gain. So to restore the balance of bacteria in your gut, take a probiotic supplement or eat yogurt (if you don't eat dairy, choose yogurt made from soy milk or coconut milk that contains active cultures). Lack of calcium as well as vitamin D can also make it harder to lose weight, so be sure to eat dairy products and these calcium-rich fruits and veggies, as well as these foods high in vitamin D. Omega-3s are also vital for a healthy metabolism, so include fish, eggs, walnuts, chia seeds, and flaxseed in your diet, too.

Get Your Zzz's

Not getting adequate sleep (at least six hours) can also decrease leptin, the hormone that makes you feel satiated, while it increases ghrelin, the hunger hormone. Research shows that feeling sluggish the following day causes you to eat an average of 549 extra calories without even realizing it. Lack of sleep also slows down your metabolism, making you burn 20 percent fewer calories a day.

Cut Out the Cocktails

Boozy beverages not only offer your body empty calories, but since your body is working so hard to get rid of toxins, they also inhibit the production of glucose, which is needed for maintaining normal blood sugar levels and in turn slows down your metabolism. Not to mention, getting a little tipsy also clouds your judgment, so you're more likely to say yes to another cosmo and a slice of cheesecake to go with it. Go for water or metabolism-boosting green tea instead.

Healthy,Food Magazine,Healthy Recipes,Food Guide :7 Simple Tips For Perfect Poached Eggs Every Time

We've compiled a list of 51 foodie resolutions to check off, including this helpful tip.

Few culinary tasks are as simultaneously simple and complex as poaching eggs. While it's easy enough to plop an egg or two into a bath of simmering water, it takes a touch of practice and know-how to achieve consistently satisfying results. Lucky for you, we've done the legwork, testing out a variety of tips and tricks to determine what works best.

  • Use the freshest eggs you can find: as eggs age the white becomes looser, more watery, and less likely to form a cohesive mass around the yolk when poached. If you have access to eggs from the farmers market, here's the time to use them; save older eggs for hard-boiling and baking.
  • Rather than crack an egg directly into a pot of water to cook, crack each egg into an individual ramekin so that it can be gently turned out into the water without puncturing the yolk.
  • If using slightly older eggs, drain off any loose egg white before poaching. Crack each egg into a fine mesh strainer set over the sink, and allow any watery egg white to drain off before gently transferring each egg into its own ramekin.
  • Poach eggs in slightly acidulated simmering water, never boiling. Adding a splash of acid, such as white vinegar, to the water will help the egg white to coagulate properly, ensuring a compact rather than feathery white of the egg. Add about a tablespoon of vinegar to the water once it has come to a simmer.
  • Before adding each egg, swirl the water into a whirlpool using the end of a wooden spoon. Quickly pull the spoon handle out and drop the egg in from its ramekin, and swirl the water around the egg a few more times - this helps keep the egg white compact and tightly wrapped around the yolk. Allow the egg to cook for about two minutes, or until the yolk jiggles in concert with the white when gently agitated.
  • Poach no more than two eggs in one batch; too many raw eggs in a tight space are bound to bump into one another and potentially fuse.
  • Use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked egg to a paper towel-lined plate to drain slightly before adding it to a dish. If poaching eggs for a crowd, skip the plate and store the cooked eggs in a bowl of tepid water until the rest of the eggs have been poached and it's time to serve them. To reheat the eggs transfer them back into a pot of water that's just below simmering and allow to warm for about 20 seconds; alternatively, try this simple trick to reheat eggs in the office.

Beauty Supply, beauty magazine, beautiful homes, beautiful skin: 2 Genius Beauty Hacks That Will Preserve Your Blowout

It's no secret that I get professional blowouts every chance I get (see: Instagram). In addition to loving the sleek look and bouncy feeling of hairstylist-created waves, I am obsessed with the fact that I don't have to wash my hair for two days (three if I'm lucky). This saves so much time in the morning - you ladies know what I'm talking about. Waking up, pulling my locks out of a topknot, and watching them snap back into place is a seriously joyous morning occasion. And I will do just about anything to preserve my style for as long as possible.

I thought I knew all of the tricks to saving my "done" strands - sleep on a silk pillow case, just wash the front pieces, rely on dry shampoo, etc. - but then I met lead Ghd hairstylist Lorna Moore in London last December at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, and she told me some new tips that blew my mind.

First, she alerted me that my face lotion might be spoiling my blowout. Her theory: leave about an inch of skin between your hairline and the rest of your face bare. "Moisturizer travels," she explained. "So if you take it right up to your hairline, [the product] will travel into your hair. Whereas if you give yourself a little border around your hairline, it will travel, but it will go up to it rather than into it." Brilliant. Finally an easy trick to control greasy roots.

Second, I learned I was missing some key spots when I apply dry shampoo. Usually, I mist it in my roots, massage it in, and brush it through. Moore made me aware that we also need to spray it around the ears and the nape of the neck. "Those areas can get greasier from oily skin so that helps the style last longer," she said. Plus, if you work out, those are the first places to get sweaty. Hope this helps you have your cake blowout and eat it take your yoga class, too!

Beauty Supply, beauty magazine, beautiful homes, beautiful skin: 9 Wintry Eye Makeup Looks That Are Fabulous, Not Frosty

Full disclosure: in middle school, I wore nothing but white eye shadow for a year straight. As an incredibly unsavvy beauty lover, my 13-year-old self somehow confused smearing iridescent white powder over my eyelids for a trendy makeup technique. Alas, I was mistaken. Shout-out to the friend who (somewhat) kindly informed me that I looked ridiculous and told me to buy a real eye shadow palette.

So you can imagine my apprehension at one of the top Winter trends: icy eye makeup. This style emulates Queen Elsa and her beauty by layering blue, gray, and yes, white pigments. It can be intimidating to try a look that could appear dated so easily, but thankfully, we're not on our own.

To make sure that this look turns out sophisticated, clean, and festive, we're turning to the pros: beauty vloggers on YouTube. Whether you're looking for a bright and bold or soft and shimmery style, these tutorials make it easy to customize your Winter look.

Fitness Club,Fitness Articles,Life Fitness,Training Program,Workout:What's the Deal With Alcohol and Ibuprofen?

If you wake up with a headache after a night of overindulging, sometimes figuring out what painkiller to take can make the headache even worse. Taking acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) can lead to liver damage, but take note: you're also not supposed to drink while taking ibuprofen.

Ibuprofen drugs (like Advil) are part of the anti-inflammatory drug family known as NSAIDs, which can cause tears in the stomach lining if taken on an empty belly. Add alcohol to the mix, and the potential danger is heightened. If you take ibuprofen when drinking more than the recommended amount for women (about two to three drinks), you increase your risk of stomach irritation and bleeding. This is especially true for people who are prone to ulcers.

But wait! Taking Tylenol when you're hungover isn't such a good idea either, and aspirin has its downsides too. Acetaminophen can lead to liver damage if you take it in large doses for more than a couple of days. Heavy drinkers who take acetaminophen and don't eat enough can overtax their livers. According to researchers at Harvard Medical School:

If you drink a lot of alcohol - say, on a Saturday night - and take a normal dose of acetaminophen to deal with the hangover in the morning, you probably are not going to have liver problems. . . . The trouble starts when regular heavy drinkers take a lot of acetaminophen over a period of time - several days, at least, and maybe longer. (In this context, heavy drinkers are defined as people who regularly have three or more drinks a day.) A drinking habit and a poor diet often go hand in hand. Multiple high doses of acetaminophen are more dangerous for drinkers partly because their glutathione levels tend to be low because they don't eat well.

It may sound like popping a few Tylenols after a night or two of heavy drinking can't hurt, but the risks associated with taking Tylenol after recreational drinking are somewhat blurry. A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory group found in a review of its database and a large liver failure study that the median dose that led to liver failure was between 5,000 and 7,000 milligrams of acetaminophen per day - scarily close to the current daily limit of 4,000 milligrams (eight extra-strength Tylenol). The FDA group recommended lowering the daily limit to 3,250 milligrams (or 10 regular-strength Tylenol pills a day) to help prevent accidental overdose.

So what's a hungover, headache-plagued gal to do - besides not drinking so much in the first place? Since the jury is still out on the exact effects of combining Advil or Tylenol with booze, it's probably best just to tough it out. While a recent study in rats found that coffee and aspirin are the best remedies for relieving hangover symptoms, it didn't look at possible alcohol interactions - and it is known that taking aspirin with alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding. If you're looking to remedy a hangover, your best bet is to go natural with options like this fresh-pressed hangover juice or a yoga sequence to relieve your symptoms. Even better, help prevent a hangover the next time with these tips.
