DIY This French Fishtail Ponytail Before Your Next Cardio Workout

January is notoriously the busiest month for gymgoers; and if you're committing to better fitness habits this year, then you should do it with style. To help up your workout hair game, we asked celebrity stylist Sarah Potempa to create five easy braided looks that will hold your strands in place in the most eye-catching way. Bobbi Brown makeup artist Kim Soane painted the faces of our fitness blogger models, Chase Lindsay Rosen of Athleisurely and Evann Clingan of her eponymous site, using long-wear, waterproof products. Everything was photographed at the iconic Chelsea Piers, which boasts a bevy of creative sweat-inducing classes. Every day this week, we will be revealing a new look.
First up, we have what Sarah dubs the Fishtail Ponytail Braid created on Chase. It only take four steps to DIY, and it's perfect for a cardio session - like that Beyoncé dance class you keep meaning to take!
Everything You Need to Know to Lose Weight at Lunch
That midday meal can make or break healthy habits - here's how to make sure lunch works for your weight-loss goals.
- Sip on this: Before eating lunch, have a glass of water; it will help settle those feelings of insatiable hunger while also taking up some room in your stomach, helping you eat less. Sip water or unsweetened tea throughout the meal as well, since they're calorie-free.
- Calories matter: Depending on your recommended daily calorie intake, lunch should fall between 300 and 600 calories. Use a website such as Calorie King to help you add up your food, and use Calorie Count for homemade recipes. For some lunch inspiration, here is a month of 400-calorie lunch ideas, like Greek yogurt chicken salad and a sweet potato black bean veggie burger.
- Pack it: Since it's difficult to know how many calories are in lunches made at cafes, the best way to keep accurate track of the amount in your lunch is to pack it at home. You can even label each item with its calorie count to serve as a visual reminder of how many calories you're consuming.
- These two are a must: No, not peanut butter and jelly - fiber and protein! The fiber takes longer to digest, so hunger pangs won't cause you to reach for more calories soon after lunch ends, and the protein will sustain your energy. Aim for at least 10 grams of fiber and 15 grams of protein, like a bowl of this sesame ginger quinoa edamame salad enjoyed with a small serving of yogurt or cheese and blueberries.
- Get away: Sitting at your desk, mindlessly chomping on your lunch while staring at the computer screen (even if it's only Facebook and not work-related) means you're not fully aware of every bite going in your mouth. This doesn't allow your brain to accurately register how much food you're actually eating, so by the time your plate or bowl is empty, you'll be itching for more before your belly has a chance to signal to your brain that you've had enough. Even if it's only for 10 minutes, take a break to just sit and eat. Enjoy lunch with a friend, since eating with others helps you eat slower and remain accountable for what you consume - it's harder to down an enormous cookie when someone is watching you.
- Don't be a member of the clean-plate club: When we're faced with a certain amount of food on our plate, it's difficult not to eat everything, especially if you're used to it from childhood. Get in the habit of eating slowly, enjoying each bite, and stopping once you feel the slightest sensation of fullness. Pack it up and remember that you can always finish the rest for an afternoon snack when you get hungry a couple of hours later.
- Enjoy a sweet ending: End your noontime meal with a small treat to feel like you indulged. These no-bake brownies are just 59 calories per fudge-y square.
All You Need Is a Resistance Band and Jump Rope For This Killer Upper-Body Workout

The following post was originally featured on Peanut Butter Fingers and written by Julie Fagan, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Fitness.
Grab a jump rope and a resistance band because I have a sweaty upper-body workout for you today!
This is a great workout to keep in your back pocket when you're traveling since throwing a resistance band and jump rope in your suitcase won't take up much room and you'll have two great pieces of exercise equipment on hand for travel-friendly workouts like this one! The entire workout can easily be done at home, in a hotel room (just be mindful of the jumping!), outside, or at the gym.
You can also modify this workout if you do not have a jump rope. Simply substitute high knees or jumping jacks in place of the 30 seconds of jump rope in between the resistance band exercises. And if you don't have a resistance band but have access to dumbbells, feel free to make that swap as well!

40+ Marvelous Make-Ahead Super Bowl Recipes

Whether you're hosting or attending to a potluck Super Bowl party this year, having a make-ahead recipe or two up your sleeve is a must. Sure, it might not be the big game without some of the day-of treats, like baked spinach-artichoke dip or buffalo chicken wings, but it makes all the difference if most of the menu can be ready to go when the game starts. (That is, unless you aren't parcticularly into the game and enjoy hiding away in the kitchen for much of it.) These 42 recipes fit the bill; many can be made ahead in their entirety and served at room temperature, while others need only a finishing touch or to be reheated at party time. Nearly all are delightfully decadent.
YSL's New Color-Correcting Makeup Will Make Your Skin Look Filtered IRL

Over the past few years, it seems like our makeup routine has acquired some extra steps (eyebrow powders and gels, contouring and highlighting), but we don't mind. Not only do we find applying cosmetics soothing, these new trends have us looking our best yet! That said, we've always felt like something is still a bit off. Despite incorporating skin care, primer, and a blending sponge into our technique, our complexion just isn't as perfect as those of our favorite makeup artists on Instagram.
You may be thinking that level of perfection comes from formidable lighting and apps like Facetune, but that's not all: color correcting is the secret behind those flawless faces. We had always believed that this was a skippable step, but it's not. Even if you're wearing a medium-to-full coverage foundation and a kickass concealer, imperfections like ruddiness, sallow skin, and dark circles can shine through. That said, choosing the right pastel hues for your concerns can be very puzzling - where do I put this purple cream? And now where do I put the green formula?
No need for confusion any longer! Yves Saint Laurent has launched six new tinted treatments to take the guesswork out of color correcting, making it as easy as priming your skin or gliding a highlighting pen over your skin. First, it's debuted the Saint Laurent Forever Light Creator CC Primer ($45). This comes in three shades: rose, lavender, and apricot.
Those with fair, dull skin should opt for rose - the fresh baby-pink tint will breathe life into your complexion. Lavender is ideal for ladies who have tendencies to look sick or sallow (purple is across from yellow in the color spectrum, meaning it will cancel out those pallid tones). And apricot will correct uneven complexions for a smooth, radiant glow. Even better, each formula minimizes pores and defends skin against free radicals, and because it contains SPF 35, you'll never have to remind yourself to put on sunscreen in the morning.
We're especially excited about the brand's other release: it's remixed its iconic Touche Éclat pens! The Touche Éclat Neutralizers ($38) also come in three hues: green, bisque, and violet. Be careful - while the primers add an ethereal tinted cast to your skin, these styluses are packed with a more opaque formula, so don't sweep it on like your favorite highlighter.
Dab the green over blemishes, rosacea, or perpetually ruddy skin. Pat a bit of the bisque shade on top of dark circles or dark spots, and use the lavender for areas of your complexion that look drab. Once you apply your favorite foundation on top, you'll see that your skin appears completely perfect - like you never had those imperfections to begin with.
Read on to see and shop these new essentials, and then watch a few color-correcting videos to brush up on your technique!
Do These 6 Things With Your Fridge to Help You Drop Pounds

Your fridge could use a makeover. Sure, it's chock-full of healthy foods, but if you can't find the baby kale you just bought, then how will it end up in your breakfast smoothie? All you need is a little organization, and it'll go a long way in helping with weight-loss goals. Follow the tips below, and you'll be eating healthier in no time.
Get Organized
When all your food is crammed into the fridge, it makes healthy items less accessible, which means you're less likely to reach for them. Being able to see food neatly arranged in your fridge will inspire you to create healthy recipes and eat good-for-you snacks. A decluttered fridge also helps you keep track of staples, so you never run out of things like Greek yogurt or breakfast basics like eggs. Versatile plastic storage bins, like these from Crate and Barrel ($11), are clear and stackable, making it easy to peruse the array of healthy foods available at your fingertips.
Snack Center in the Fridge
Create a snack center in your fridge (one of those Crate and Barrel bins would be perfect for this), so you have a go-to spot to find healthy munchables when hunger strikes. Place the bin in front at eye level, and stock it with premade 150-calorie baggies of popcorn, cheese and crackers, trail mix, fresh fruit, cereal, pretzels, fruit and nut bars, fruit leather, and other healthy faves.
Precut Veggies
Veggies are low in cals and jam-packed with fiber; when you eat them you feel full longer, which keeps hunger at bay and prevents mindless snacking later. But your veggies can't help you lose weight if they sit in the crisper and go moldy before you have a chance to eat them. You're more likely to nosh on veggies if they're ready to eat. After hitting the grocery store, immediately wash, cut, and store carrots, peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, celery, and cherry tomatoes in reusable containers. Place the stack of precut veggies next to a tub of hummus, a bottle of low-calorie salad dressing like Annie's Gingerly Vinaigrette, or homemade nonfat yogurt dill dip.
Fruit Bowl
Fruit is also a perfect snack or dessert because the sweetness satisfies your sugar cravings, but it's much lower in calories than a chocolate bar or cookie. Ensure that you eat those nutritious apples, pears, kiwis, peaches, melons, and citrus fruits by displaying them in a bowl, so when you open the fridge door you're inspired to grab a piece.
Ditch the Junk
If unhealthy, nutrition-less food is in your fridge, you'll quickly push the carrot sticks out of the way to reach them. Get rid of everything from cans of soda to the half-eaten jar of nacho cheese sauce. What's that? You buy that stuff for your hubby or kids? Well don't. If it's there to tempt you, it will. If this health kick you're on rubs off on your family, it'll be that much easier to stick with it and drop those pounds; and your loved ones will be healthier too.
Store Healthier Alternatives to Your Faves
You know that ice cream is your weakness, so don't deprive yourself - it'll only lead to cravings. Make sure you have a lower-calorie option, such as sorbet bars, available to satisfy your sweet tooth. The same goes for other high-fat or high-calorie foods. Stock up on healthier alternatives, so you can still enjoy the foods you love without derailing your weight-loss train.
Smoothies That Won't Leave You Hungry Before Lunch

When you're rushing to make it out the door on time in the morning, you don't have to skip the most important meal of the day if you take a few minutes to blend up a smoothie. These 18 recipes are perfect for on-the-go breakfasts, and the best part is they won't leave your stomach growling before lunchtime rolls around.
Bunny Hop - Cute Name, Kickass Move
Torch calories while toning your abs and arms with the bunny hop. Yeah, the name sounds cute, but this exercise is killer. We love adding a bit of cardio to the basic plank, and we also love how this move makes our abs and arms burn in the best way possible.
- Begin in a plank position with the feet together.
- Pull your abs in, and jump your feet to the right, bringing your knees toward your right elbow. Your torso will twist to the right.
- Jump your feet back to plank to complete one rep.
- Repeat on the other side, and continue alternating sides for 20 reps total.
Skip the Ibuprofen and Do These Yoga Poses For Menstrual Cramp Relief

Got cramps? You're not alone. Many women suffer from severe menstrual pain (known as dysmenorrhea) with sharp, throbbing, burning, or nauseating cramps in their lower abdomen and back. The cramps may come right before you get your period or during, but thankfully they go away when your period is over.
These crippling, can't-get-through-your-normal-day kind of cramps are caused by uterine contractions and can be aggravated by emotional stress. They tend to cause headaches and a really heavy flow - twice the fun. Some women take pain meds to deal, but you may want to give these yoga poses a try, since getting your body moving (and out of fetal position on the couch) can really help with cramps.
Half Bound Squat
Hip pain can be part of the whole cramp scene, so stretching them out feels really good. Here's how to do Half Bound Squat.
- Stand with your feet slightly wider than hips-width-distance apart. Bend your knees, and lower your hips all the way down. Take a peek at your feet, and see if you can press your heels out, bringing your feet parallel.
- Press your elbows against your inner knees, and lengthen through your torso. Hold like this in a Wide Squat for five breaths.
- Then bring your left arm between your knees. Lower your left shoulder as far under your left knee as possible, so you hug your knee with your armpit as you reach your left forearm around your back with your palm facing away from your body.
- Reach your right arm up as high as you can, bend your elbow, and bring the back of your right palm to your lower back. If they're close enough, hold your right wrist with your left hand, with the right palm facing behind you.
- Stay here for five deep breaths. Come back to Wide Squat for one complete breath to release the pose, and repeat on the right side.
Arching Pigeon
Pigeon Pose also opens your hips, but sometimes it feels better to work one side at a time. This variation will also stretch out the lower belly.
- Sit on the floor with your right knee bent and your left leg extended behind you.
- Place your hands on your hips, and gently arch your back. You should feel a nice stretch in the front of your left hip, but if this variation is painful, then lean forward, placing your hands on the floor in front of you. If you want more of a stretch, raise your arms in the air.
- Hold for five or more breaths, and then repeat this pose on the other side.
One-Armed Camel
Stretching out your abs and the front of the hips can also relieve cramps. Here's how to do One-Armed Camel.
- Stand on your shins so your knees are underneath your hips.
- Reach your right hand back, placing it on your right heel or on the mat behind your right toes. Extend your left arm in the air.
- Shift weight forward onto your knees to increase the stretch in your quads, belly, and chest. Lower your head behind you, and stay here for five breaths.
- Switch sides, holding for another five breaths, and then lift the torso up to release.
Wide Child's Pose
If you feel cramps in your lower back, then Wide Child's Pose is sure to offer relaxation and relief.
- Place your knees on the floor, widen them to a comfortable distance, and then fold forward, extending your arms in front of you.
- Rest your forehead on the mat or turn your head to one side, holding for five breaths. Turn your head to the other side for another five relaxing breaths.
Reclining Twist
Here's a relaxing way to increase side-to-side spinal flexibility, which can also help relieve pain in the lower belly and lower back.
- Lie on your back, and cross your left knee over to the right side.
- Extend your arms out wide, gazing to the left.
- Hold here for at least five breaths, feeling your spine lengthen and twist. You may even hear some "cracks."
- Use your abs to lift your knees back to center and repeat on the other side.

8 Classic Cold Creams to Save Your Skin This Winter
If you've ever asked a wise grandmother about her secret to youthful, smooth skin, you've probably gotten a response like: "Pond's on the face and no worries on the brain." Cold creams, such as Pond's and Noxzema, have been used to cleanse and moisturize skin for many decades - though similar creams have been popular since as early as the second century, when the Greek physician Galen developed a combination of beeswax, rosewater, and essential oils that lent a similar effect to the skin. The unique combination of fat and water in cold cream helps to moisturize, soothe, and soften skin, feeling cold to the touch but extremely refreshing when applied.
According to the 50-plus crowd and modern skin care enthusiasts alike, cold creams can be used for a plethora of purposes: moisturizing dry skin, removing makeup, softening rough patches like elbows and knees, soothing sunburns, washing the face, and even as a shaving cream. While oil-based makeup removers may cause acne flare-ups and makeup-removing wipes can tug on eyelashes, cold creams infuse moisture while completely removing even the toughest of waterproof mascaras. Cream-based products also tend to be more potent than other moisturizers during cold weather, so be sure to pick up a pot of it when your skin feels dehydrated and tight. The chilling effect of these soothing potions even helps to calm wind-chapped cheeks and lips after a walk in blustery Winter weather!
We've rounded up eight cold creams that we're sure even Grandma would swear by, so don't let Winter get the best of your skin for another second. Once you try these soothing, classic creams, you'll never go back.
