The 1 Thought That Helped Me Lose Weight
Life is too short to say "no" to anything delicious. So I didn't. I said "yes." Yes to three-layer cakes, chewy homemade cookies, decadent brownies, crispy french fries, pancakes doused in maple syrup, flaky chocolate-covered pastries, ice cream, gooey pizza - anything and everything. I didn't want to restrict myself at all, so I literally never said "no." If I had a brief doubt when reaching for something tasty, thinking, well, "maybe I shouldn't," a little voice inside would always say, "Yes. Go ahead. Because you're worth it." And boy was I worth it. Forty pounds worth it. That's how much I gained, not by eating entire sleeves of Oreos or gloriously enormous bowls of mac and cheese. It was bite by bite.
I was shocked at how much weight I'd gained just by eating a little extra here and there. And I realized that saying "yes" to all those foods wasn't making me happy. Initially, I was sad about not being able to button my jeans, but what really made me depressed was the fact that I wasn't taking care of myself. I felt like crap because I was eating so much crap.
So one day, when reaching for a second piece of dark chocolate with almonds, I stopped and said to myself, "No. Don't do it. Because you're worth it." That new mantra empowered me to take my health and weight into my own hands. I actually felt better restricting myself because I knew it was helping me get back on track and meet the goals I'd always had in mind - to be healthy.
Of course I don't say no to everything, I just don't say yes all the time. I definitely indulge every single day with a little something, but I'm more aware now of all those little extra nibbles I was taking just for the heck of it. Those little bites sure did add up, so not having those extra bites helped me get back into my jeans. My health is the most important thing to me, and this one small change in my thoughts has made a huge difference.
You'll Feel Like a Badass After Finishing This Treadmill Workout
Given that running is such a solitary sport, it can be quite an endeavor to push past a plateau. It's not at all unusual for months to go by before realizing you've been doing the same stale run over and over again. Equinox's latest running class offering, Precision Running, changes that for the better. Designed to help students become both stronger and faster runners, the entire class takes place on a treadmill and is led by an extensively trained (and motivating) running coach. Trainer David Siik, the creator of Precision Running, explains that no two classes are alike, but all will help you progress to become a better runner - before you know it, you're setting PRs.
For those not able to make it to a Precision Running class, David designed this pyramid speed workout to use the next time a treadmill beckons you. "The challenge is to build speed as intervals get shorter going up a pyramid. You must then use your fastest speed you reach at the end of the first segment on every interval as they get longer again in reverse," says David. Before beginning, David says to imagine the fastest you can go for a 30-second sprint, then start this workout exactly two miles per hour under that goal. (We've included some suggested speeds depending on your level.) The workout is designed in such a way that even though you never reach your peak sprinting pace, you are still conditioning the body to become faster overall. This method puts less impact on the body, preventing injury later down the road.

5 Fears Keeping You Out of the Weight Room and How to Get Over Them
Hopefully you know by now that an all-cardio-all-the-time workout routine is a bit of a missed opportunity. Look, I am a supporter of pretty much any workout routine that you'll actually stick to (more about how to actually enjoy your workouts here), but some form of strength training is foundational to injury prevention, metabolic speed, weight loss, and - in my experience - feeling like a badass. If you've been avoiding the weight room, chances are it's because you're holding onto one of these following fears - so let's conquer them!
1. You're afraid you'll bulk up.
You don't want to look like the Hulk. I get it. It's actually really, really difficult for women to bulk up, though, so unless you're lifting really heavy weights over a long period of time (and someone is sneaking a bunch of supplements into your diet), trust me when I tell you that you will not wake up looking like a dude one day if you start lifting some weights. Women produce 15 to 20 percent less testosterone than men do, so even if you and your man follow a similar strength-training plan you still won't bulk up at the same rate. Moreover, as you add lean muscle to your frame, your body burns more calories 24/7 and you actually lose weight. Win/win.
2. You don't have a game plan.
This is a valid concern - until it isn't. Yes, you should definitely arm yourself with a game plan before you start a strength training program, but don't worry too much about finding an absolutely perfect program that is uniquely tailored to you. There are so many resources available these days (here, here, and here, for example), and at some point you just have to dive in. Any workout program - strength training or otherwise - is going to require a little bit of trial and error to fine tune it for your body, your ability, and your interests. So pick one, get started, and tweak it as you go.
3. You think everyone's staring at you (and not in a good way).
It's totally normal to feel self-conscious as a weight-room newbie. Want to know a secret, though? Everyone else is so concerned about what you think of them that they're not even really paying attention to you. I promise. Just march into that weight room, pick up your weight, and don't worry about what anyone else in there is doing.
4. You're afraid you'll hurt yourself.
Lifting heavy things is, in fact, a good way to hurt yourself if you're not careful. If you're brand new to lifting weights, there are a couple best practices to avoid this. First, ask for a demo. Your gym doesn't want you getting hurt on its watch, and most offer mini-training sessions or a brief demos of exercises to ensure your form is safe. Second, start with light weights - or no weights at all. The three-pound and five-pound weights are there for a reason, and there is absolutely no shame in using them. Let your first week or two in the weight room be about making sure your form isn't causing any worrisome aches and pains, and increase the weight slowly after that.
5. It's just not your vibe.
Sometimes the weight room can seem like a meat market full of thugs and bimbos, and maybe you just want no part of it. No one can fault you for that. Strength training (aka resistance training) is simply about pushing yourself to get stronger using progressive overload, though, and you can actually accomplish this in plenty of places outside of a traditional weight room. Push-ups done on a grassy knoll count. Pull-ups done from a tree branch count. Squats done with a kid on your back definitely count, even if you happen to be watching Sesame Street at the time. Don't let bad weight room stereotypes prevent you from incorporating resistance training into your fitness routine.
A strong body is a healthy body. A mind that conquers fears is a strong mind. So conquer your fears, head into that weight room, and start getting stronger. You've got this.

Zoolander and Hansel's Appearance on SNL Will Totally Make You LOL
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson dropped by Saturday Night Live this week as their Zoolander characters, Derek Zoolander and Hansel, "to talk about the one thing everyone wants to hear male models talk about: politics." However, during the Weekend Update, the men, reverted back to their old ways, and went on to assess Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump's style. Hansel weighed in on Hillary's fashion sense saying, "Hillary's from the '90s, which is really hot right now," while Zoolander stated that her style reminded him of his icon, Kim Jong-un. The men also confused Ted Cruz for Tom Cruise before going in on Donald. Watch the clip above now, and then check out Larry David's triumphant return to SNL.

Who Taylor Swift's Songs Are Really About
In the wake of Taylor Swift's recent release of the "Out of the Woods" music video and that stunning acoustic performance of "Wildest Dreams," there's no better time to make sure you have your Taylor facts straight. Most importantly, she writes from the heart, and a lot of her songs are about certain people. She doesn't reserve her songwriting for romance gone bad, either: she's also called out a couple of ladies. Here is a brief history of Swift's songs about other famous people.

Larry David Makes a Triumphant Return to SNL and Reprises His Role as Bernie Sanders
Larry David reprised his role as Bernie Sanders when he returned to host Saturday Night Live this week, and we have to say, it was the best thing since Curb Your Enthusiasm. In an effort to spoof the comedy, David played out Bernie's campaign in Iowa as if it was an episode on the HBO series, refusing to shake hands with a woman (Leslie Jones) because she coughed, saying, "I am running for president. I do not shake disgusting hands," and then, not offering to help a lady (Aidy Bryant) who dislocated her shoulder. In true Curb Your Enthusiasm fashion, Bernie ends up losing the Iowa caucus vote by five votes, which is the same number of people he offended prior to the polls closing. Check out the hilarious spoof above now!

You'll Twirl With Delight Over Rachel McAdams's Sequined, Chiffon Gown
Rachel McAdams has covered two sides of the style spectrum this weekend. On Friday, she went for a light look in a white Jonathan Simkhai gown to drop by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. And Saturday night? Rachel was back in Los Angeles to attend the Director's Guild of America awards in the opposite color: black.
Working with stylists Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, Rachel selected a crystal-embellished tulle and chiffon gown from the Michael Kors collection. She finished her look with Brian Atwood heels, which peeked out from underneath the dress's chiffon panels. Rachel's nails were done by Hollywood's favorite artist, Tom Bachik, hair by Mark Townsend, and her own sister Kayleen McAdams was responsible for her chic smokey-eye look.
