Brandy Thinks Moesha "Would Be a Kickass Lawyer" in 2016
Brandy Norwood became a '90s icon with her hit series Moesha and her catchy music, and now she's back and better than ever. With a brand-new show on BET and new music on the way, the talented star is rising to the occasion. We recently had the delight of talking with her, and she told us everything you can expect from her career going forward, as well as indulged her fans with a few nostalgic moments from her past.
POPSUGAR: Your new show, Zoe Ever After, is one of your first starring roles since Moesha; how does it feel to be back on set?
Brandy Norwood: It feels amazing to be back on set. It feels like home, even though the territory is a little bit unfamiliar because it's a new show, it's a new character, but once you get in the groove and you start to settle in and trust the moment, you start to really feel at home. It's a gift and what I'm born to do and what everyone around me with the show is born to do. And to actually trust it and see it all come together, it just feels amazing. And even though designing your own show, that's great, I am nothing without the support around me. The cast is unbelievable. Just really amazing, talented people that make me feel good. We help each other look and feel great and the chemistry is awesome. To me, it's an ensemble. Everyone has their moment to star in their own light. And I'm just happy about that.
PS: You were a '90s icon with your show Moesha; what do you think your character would be doing in 2016?
BN: I think Moesha was so versatile she could've done anything that she put her mind to. I don't know if she would own her own makeup line, I think she would have a firm or something. She would be an incredible lawyer or a judge by now because she was so clear in her perspective and so strong in her stance about what she wanted and she wasn't afraid to speak up for herself. She always had a great argument. I definitely think she would be a kickass lawyer.
PS: How do you think that show would be different if it were set now?
BN: I don't know. I never really thought about that. We would definitely have to adjust to what's going on now. I think Moesha was a little bit ahead of its time. It would be a little bit different. We would have to adjust to what's going on now, but at the same time do our own thing. It would look a little like Zoe, I think.

PS: Taking a different direction now, I want to talk about your music. Your new sound has been pegged trap and blues, and I was wondering if you could explain what exactly that is.
BN: My first time hearing that was when folks started calling it that; I never had a title for it. I just went with the feeling and I was able to work with incredible producers and a writer, Kirby Lauryen, who was not afraid to be fearless and try something new and kind of step outside of the box and go with what we were feeling. I think creativity becomes really beautiful and magical when you allow it to do what it's needing you to do. And that's what we did and it turned out to be what "Beggin & Pleadin" is today. It's such an emotional song, just a gut-wrenching story. I love the song, I love the production, and I love the vocals. I'm really proud of it and it feels good to me when I hear it and I was so happy to share that with my following and just with people that don't really know me. I was just so happy that that song was something I could share with someone because I really loved it. And when you really love something it feels even better because when people love it, it's like a fuse. Like you connect and I love that feeling. It just feels like I'm on the right path musically and I'm in the right mindset to continue out my mission in music because I'm not putting myself in a box.
PS: What has been your biggest inspiration for making this new album?
BN: I'm my biggest inspiration. And I say this in the most humble way. I've been through so much, just in my life. I've been through a lot. A lot of ups, a lot of downs. But over the last couple of years, I went through so much. It felt like I lived like four lives in the last three years. I've had to come through a lot and I've made a lot of different mistakes, but I realized that I never gave up. I wanted to so badly. It's easy to just give everything up, but it takes a lot of strength and a lot of willpower to just make yourself stay on it and get up and do something different. And I had to do that. I'm very proud of myself because I have come so close to just giving up and I haven't done that. And my daughter, I can't give up because she's watching and she's here and she's waiting for me to be an example. So, between her, myself, and my will, and me pushing myself, that's my inspiration.
PS: If you could describe your album in one word, what would it be?
BN: Triumphant. In my life right now, in my music, and just overall I feel like I'm winning. It doesn't matter what this person is saying or what the charts are saying or what award shows are saying, the public opinion doesn't matter. I feel like I'm winning in my spirit. So, that's a different type of validation is when you are validating it. The extra opinions and the extra praise is just a bonus, it's not the main thing. The main thing is how I feel about myself. And I feel really good about myself. I love the way that feels. I haven't felt like this in a very, very long time. Musically, professionally, I just haven't felt this good in my life in a long time.
PS: Do you have a favorite track on the album so far?
BN: I don't have a favorite, but I'm proud of all the songs. I'm really listening a lot to "Beggin & Pleadin" because I know that I'm going to have to perform that pretty soon, so I don't want to get out of that box.
PS: Do you have any plans for an album release date yet?
BN: No, honestly I'm just going with the flow. I'm in the process, I'm on the path. I'm really working towards all of my goals and music is definitely on the way.
PS: Because you're always going to be such a '90s icon, what would you say were some of your favorite songs or shows from that era?
BN: All the '90s music. I don't get into the favorite songs thing, because so many speak to different parts of my life, but the music in the '90s is just unbeatable. I was in the gym today listening to '90s stuff and just showing my daughter videos of '90s artists that I loved and who I came up listening to, but Whitney Houston is my idol and my mentor and my dream forever, like she will always be my favorite artist, ever, on the planet. Like I don't think I'll ever feel that way about another artist. And The Cosby Show was my favorite TV show, The Golden Girls and Family Matters. What else did I love? Oh, Full House! I'm so excited for it to come back.
PS: I know, I'm excited too! Also since you mentioned Whitney Houston, I have to say Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella with you and her is literally one of my favorite movies. I've watched it so many times.
BN: Oh, thank you very much. I was just so honored to play the role of Cinderella and to just be the first African-American princess, that's just historic for me, that's such a mark in my life and my career and then the bonus of just working with my favorite person in the whole world, Whitney, like her voice just did something to my spirit. I just couldn't believe it. I dreamt of meeting her, but never in a million, thousand light years would I dream that I was going to work with her and sing with her and laugh with her. It was like I was Cinderella as Cinderella. Like, "Really? Whitney is my fairy godmother?" It was an unforgettable experience for me that I will never forget.
PS: It was impossible!
BN: Yeah! I still can't believe that really happened. And then to be able to share that with my daughter is . . . impossible! I'm really humbled and I'm really thankful for everything that I've experienced.

I get it - weekday breakfast is hard. On those days when you don't even have time to make quick breakfasts at home, you can still whip something up at work. As long as you can throw the ingredients in your bag, you're on your way to a no-stove-needed breakfast that can be made in your office, like avocado toast and microwaveable peanut butter oatmeal. You won't be greeted by your stomach grumbles 30 minutes after you scarfed down that granola bar.

This Day-Care Worker Was Fired After Posting a Superinappropriate Snapchat
Back in the olden days, frustrated workers would come home or hit the local pub to vent about their jobs. In 2016, however, people have taken to social media as their main outlet for work-related complaints. But as multiple day-care workers can attest, publicly posting negative sentiments about the workplace can result in serious consequences. One such day-care employee, a 19-year-old from Mesa, AZ, learned this the hard way after posting an inappropriate Snap to her Snapchat story - featuring her middle finger in front of a toddler's face with the caption "swear I love kids!" The Snap unsurprisingly resulted in the employee's termination.
"She was crying and saying she'd made a mistake," Dorothy Thornton, owner of the Mesa day-care center Kids Play, told local news outlets about confronting the Snap-happy worker. While Thornton indicated that she felt pity for the teenager, who had worked at Kids Play for around seven months, she had no choice but to fire her for such inappropriate behavior. Considering how parents would feel if they saw such a post, it's no shock that the young woman was immediately let go after another co-worker reported the offensive Snap.
Next time you have a qualm with some annoying aspect of your job, consider keeping a diary or respectfully approaching your employer about it . . . basically, do anything but post about it online. Your résumé (and bank account) will thank you.

Proof You Should Be REALLY Excited to Taste Starbucks's Official Valentine's Day Drinks
Chocolate-lovers everywhere rejoiced upon hearing the news of the new Starbucks Valentine's Day drinks, and we knew we wanted to taste them immediately. The Molten Chocolate Latte, Molten Chocolate Frappuccino, and Molten Hot Chocolate are like the mocha drinks you know and love . . . intensified.
The difference between the molten drinks and the regular chocolate drinks is in the preparation: the barista scoops chocolate chips into the cup before letting the espresso pour into it, melting and infusing with the chocolate, creating a rich syrup. As for the Frappuccino, this is a next-level version of the Java Chip Frappuccino - it's topped with espresso-infused whipped cream with an espresso mocha drizzle. "Chocolatey with a punch" is how one of our taste testers described these sweet drinks.
Needless to say, if the combination of coffee and chocolate is your favorite, you should definitely treat yourself to one (or all) of these limited-edition drinks the next time you make a Starbucks run - you have until Valentine's Day.

Beyoncé Dropped a New Single This Week - Complete With a Music Video
Just a day before hitting the stage at Super Bowl 50, Beyoncé dropped a new song called "Formation" out of nowhere. But that's not all! Along with the song, she also released a new music video exclusively to Tidal with a cameo from her adorable daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, and we must say, it's fire! Just take a minute to review the lyrics: "Y'all haters corny with that Illuminati mess/Paparazzi catch my fly and my cocky fresh/I'm so reckless when I rock my Givenchy dress."
In addition to featuring explicit lyrics, the video, which was directed by Beyoncé and shot in New Orleans, takes on black culture and police brutality with a handful of powerful images, including a cop car, a police line, a Southern plantation home, and a shot of graffiti on a wall that reads, "Stop shooting us." Prepare to Be Hooked on Kylie Jenner's Epic Haircut Tutorial
Kylie Jenner is no stranger to switching up her strands. The star has dabbled in almost every shade of the rainbow with wigs and hair extensions, so we were pleasantly surprised when she recently started sporting toned-down locks.
While she's been consistent with her jet-black style, it seems as if Kylie was in desperate need of changing her look - again. Over the weekend, she took to her Snapchat to share a 14-part video with celebrity stylist Jen Atkin, chopping off her hair.
Inspired by Christine Centenera, Jen began snipping away at her strands to create an asymmetrical bob. After cutting and razoring off inches of Kylie's hair (which also appears to be enhanced with extensions), she decided to go back in and snip her mane even shorter! "Sometimes you do a whole haircut and your client is not happy so you have to go in again and make it shorter," Jen joked.
Jen went back to work with her sheers, transforming Kylie's strands into a choppy lob landing at the nape of her neck. Although this isn't Kylie's first spin at short hair, we're loving the cool-girl vibe of this new cut. Keep on reading to see more snaps from her Snapchat hair session.

How to Start a Cookbook Club (and Why You Should)
Book clubs already involve getting together with friends, eating, and drinking, so why not make it the focus? As a member of a cookbook club, you'll become a better cook, actually put your collection of cookbooks to good use - raise your hand if you have at least a few on your shelf that you've yet to cook from - and (most importantly) have fun.
What's a Cookbook Club?
Like with a book club, members meet to discuss a specific book, in this case a cookbook, and enjoy each other's company over libations and nibbles. Unlike with a book club, where the host is often in charge of providing much of the food and drink, meetings are a potluck meal; the dishes come from the cookbook in question. Members don't have to be serious, experienced cooks; enthusiasm for cooking is more important, so don't be afraid to extend invitations to both that co-worker who's always regaling officemates with the last killer meal they cooked and also your best friend who is just beginning to feel comfortable in the kitchen.
A Few Logistical Suggestions
- Meet monthly or every other month: Having a set meeting date (the first Sunday of every month at 6 p.m., for example) can help eliminate endless emails trying to find a time that works for all.
- Make the gathering a potluck: Ideally, each member should cook a couple recipes from the cookbook before meeting so that they get a good feel for it. Each member should bring one dish to the potluck meeting. A shared Google spreadsheet is an easy way to ensure that people don't double up on the recipes they bring to the potluck. (Everyone fills out what they'll bring!)
- Take turns hosting: Like with any potluck, the host is generally in charge of the main dish for logistical reasons (especially if it is something that won't reheat well or isn't portable), though this isn't a hard and fast rule. Some members might not have the space to host or be comfortable doing so, but if possible, it's great to take turns.
- Group size: A good amount of members is how many you'd invite to a dinner party, four to 10. Larger groups do exist, but it's more challenging logistically, both in finding a time to meet and in having enough space to host.
- Ask members to take brief notes on the recipes they tried: They don't have to be detailed, but it's good to know if a recipe was a must make or a total flop, if they substituted or added any ingredients, if it's good for leftovers, etc.
Money-Saving Tips
- Buying a new cookbook every month (or every other month) and cooking from it can get pricey; many cookbooks are available at your local library or can be shared among members (photocopy recipes as needed).
- If cooking from an ingredient-heavy cookbook (particularly those for foreign cuisines), it can be helpful to go shopping with a friend in the club and split up common pantry ingredients like spices and condiments. Alternatively, a market that sells bulk spices and other ingredients is a great place to shop, since you can get just the amount needed for a recipe.

12 of the Best Free Products on the Internet
While you probably know about some of the free things on the Internet, we think you should know about the very best. All of these ideas come courtesy of Reddit and one of its most popular threads ever, titled "What free stuff on the internet should everyone be taking advantage of?" Ahead, we narrowed it down to the most useful products and services around. Be prepared to bookmark most, if not all, of these.
- Watch entertaining documentaries - While we have no problem binge-watching television on Netflix, Documentary Heaven is a good alternative when you're in the mood for something more serious. There are plenty to choose from, and the site also has a "Most Popular This Week" tab if you want to make a quick decision.
- Score ebooks - If you're any kind of bookworm, Project Gutenberg is about to become your new favorite site. Here you can find over 49,000 free ebooks to pick from, and the download process is seamless.
- Save money with coupons - No matter if you're a frequent shopper or not, RetailMeNot is a site to always check before making online purchases. There's almost always a coupon to choose that will help save you some cash, which, in our books, is never a bad thing.
- Become fluent in a new language - Say goodbye to Rosetta Stone and hello to Duolingo, an app that lets you learn a variety of languages like Spanish and Dutch. It's easy to use and actually feels like you're learning a language you could use in the real world.
- Take any class - There's never an end to learning and Coursera offers classes from many universities like Stanford and Duke. You don't have to follow a schedule and can choose any of the topics available. (There are other similar sites to check out as well.)
- Learn how to code - If computer science has ever interested you or you're wondering what it even is, Codecademy can teach you everything. Choose from a variety of topics, like how to create a website or improving your HTML skills. Best of all, it's easy to use.
- Edit photos without Photoshop - Whether you want to professionally edit photos or just touch up something, Pixlr is an awesome site. You can work in layers, with a paint bucket tool, and more - so you don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on Photoshop. (Check out all these other free photo-editing websites too.)
- Manage your money - Like a clean overview of what's going on with your finances and budget plans? Mint helps keep track of all your spending, sets budgets and savings goals, and is all around a great tool to use your money more wisely.
- Listen to audiobooks - Similar to Project Gutenberg, LibriVox uses volunteers to record audiobooks in the public domain. There are over 8,000 audiobooks to choose from and, of course, you can volunteer yourself.
- Recycle used items - Reduce, reuse, and recycle items with Freecycle, a website dedicated to connecting people locally to goods. It's like Craigslist, but more sustainable.
- Get advice from someone who cares - Sometimes, there are days when you just need to talk about your life and 7 Cups of Tea is there for you. You can speak to "trained active listeners" that keep your conversation totally anonymous while helping you out through any situation.
- Keep passwords in one spot - Instead of writing down your passwords on a piece of paper, keep them secure online with LastPass. You can store tons of passwords and never worry again about getting locked out of an account.
If for any reason these still aren't enough, you can check out another list full of more services to explore. Seriously, what did we do before the Internet was around?

No Big Deal, but Tom Hiddleston Is Really Naked in This Trailer
Tom Hiddleston is in the building. And by that, I mean he lives in a very, very tall building in the trailer for High-Rise. It's one of many of 2016's films based on a book, having been adapted from a J.G. Ballard novel. Hiddleston plays Dr. Robert Laing, one of the many residents of a posh building. Things spin out of control, and it's hard to tell what's really going on. The trippy-looking film also stars Sienna Miller, Elisabeth Moss, Jeremy Irons, and Luke Evans. It doesn't have a US release date yet, but let's keep our fingers crossed!

This Dad's Facebook Post Reminds Men to "Respect the Mother of Your Child"
I sometimes don't give this woman the credit she is due, when I come from work she is always "tired" now it's me who has...
Posted by Tony Emms on Wednesday, January 27, 2016
Stay-at-home moms don't always get the recognition that they deserve - especially in their own households. But one father is realizing just how much his fiancée does and took to Facebook to show his appreciation.
In the post, accompanied by a photo of Charlotte sleeping with their child, Tony writes about how he didn't give her the credit that she's due. "When I come from work she is always 'tired.' Now it's me who has been at work doing stuff all day, but lately I've been thinking what this amazing woman does while I'm out . . . surely she just sits with the baby and watches TV and has a chilled day right? NO is the answer."
Tony went on to point out an important fact that is true for many mothers: When the baby is hungry, he gets fed while Charlotte skips a meal. When the baby is sleepy, he goes down for a nap while his tired fiancée cleans.
"Baby wakes up and is hungry, mummy hasn't had breakfast but she still doesn't eat. She gets baby set for his lunch. After his lunch, he then wants attention and plays . . . remember mummy still hasn't eaten . . . all the cleaning she'd done earlier is now time wasted as baby's toys are everywhere," Tony explained.
Even though Tony is also putting in a ton of effort at work and returns home drained, he wants others to realize that this doesn't negate the exhaustion that Charlotte feels from all that she does.
"Respect the mother of your child. She is a special type of human that has given up everything to bring up your baby," Tony wrote. "I truly love my two sleeping babies and they both deserve their rest."

This Little Girl Sent Her Parents an Urgent - and Hysterical! - Memo Regarding Bedtime
A bedtime is like a work deadline - firm and often nonnegotiable. So when it came to what hour this little girl had to turn in, Tia viewed the matter with the upmost importance.
In a memo sent to her parents, Tia requested a meeting and was upfront about the appointment's agenda straight from the start. The message, labeled "re: bedtime," was handwritten and sent to Mom and Dad.
"I would like to meet with you to discuss a change in my bedtime," the letter reads. "Please let me know when we may meet." This professional child took her bedtime hour extremely seriously and understandably wanted her parents to recognize the importance of this formal sit-down.
Luckily for Tia, her parents found the humor in her stern note and added the letter to her baby book. Now, years later, Tia's boyfriend discovered this hysterical gem and shared it on Reddit with the caption, "My girlfriend was a bit formal as a child."
While it's unclear the outcome of the meeting or whether it was even confirmed due to everyone's busy schedules, Tia's businesslike approach gave everyone a good laugh - both then and now!

The Cool-Girl Manicure Everyone Will Be Copying This Season
We already gave you the exclusive preview of all of Chanel's new Le Vernis Nail Lacquers, and now you can see them come to life. The classic formula has been redesigned for a longwear finish, with no need for a UV lamp or a salon service. And trust me, it works - those are my hands in the video! Chanel celebrity manicurist Ashlie Johnson worked with us to create a one-of-a-kind manicure that appealed to both the Valentine's Day crowd and those following Spring 2016 trends, and the result was a gorgeous watercolor finish, using both new and iconic shades from the brand. Johnson, fresh off working with her clients Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Brie Larson at the Golden Globes, aspired to create a look that wouldn't just turn heads - it had to be easy to paint on yourself.
Ashlie first applied a base coat and a light neutral shade before swiping fuschia, red, gray, and gold lacquer across my nails. She used a small nail brush to create tiny hearts on accent nails - which are so delicate, they almost appear hidden - and then finished the look with the Le Gel topcoat.
Take a look at a manicure fit for Cupid - or the runway - and let us know your favorite polish shade in the comments below.

Taylor Kinney Can't Stop Gushing Over Fiancée Lady Gaga's Super Bowl Performance
Lady Gaga's insanely good rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl on Sunday had jaws dropping all over the country, and fiancé Taylor Kinney's was definitely one of them. Although the Chicago Fire actor didn't appear to be physically at the big game alongside Gaga, he had quite a few adorable words of praise to send her way after watching her slay. "I'm just proud. I just wanted her to take her time and really just enjoy the moment for what it was," he said in an interview with People at a recent event for his TV Guide cover. "To be on that stage in front of as many people that were watching and to represent not only the song but the country was a pretty big deal. I thought that she really took the bull by the horns and did a great job."
Taylor and Gaga have never been shy about showing their love for one another, and since the "Til It Happens to You" singer has quite the month ahead of her thanks to scheduled appearances at both the Grammys and the Oscars, hopefully there will be plenty more cute moments from the couple to look forward to.

There are plenty of reasons Americans care so passionately for pancakes. First off, pancakes scream Saturday morning. Wait, Olivia's Tweet About This Week's Episode of The Bachelor Is Perfect
Love her, or just love to hate her, Olivia has made this season of The Bachelor totally worth watching. Mega spoiler alert if you haven't seen the latest episode, but Ben finally sent her home . . . right after she told him that she loved him. And by "sent her home" I mean "left her on a small island to swim her way back to the mainland." It was the best cut since Farmer Chris flew away in a helicopter, leaving Ashley and Kelsey on a bed in the desert. In any case, Olivia (last name Caridi) at least has enough of a sense of humor to tweet about her heartbreak.

7 Natural Anxiety Remedies That Help Me Take the Edge Off
Anxiety touches nearly everyone in some way. As a disorder, it is the most widespread mental illness in the US, with at least 40 million people suffering; millions more are experiencing situational or temporary bouts of anxiety. Even if you've yet to experience it yourself, someone you love may be dealing with anxiety. Unfortunately, until recently, not many people have been ready nor willing to talk about this all-too-common plight.
This past year gave me my first real look into the world of anxiety. After trudging through a particularly difficult time in my life, a therapist let me in on a little secret: I've actually had anxiety since I was a kid, and I have just been managing it well. But when times got especially hard last year, I had a much tougher (read: basically impossible) time dealing with my anxiety – not to make a joke out of myself, but it was a meltdown of epic proportions.
Although it's still not easy to talk about, I want anyone dealing with anxiety to know: it's okay to talk about it. While there's no "cure" for anxiety, it is highly treatable – therapy, sometimes coupled with certain medication, can be a powerful treatment. Outside of this, I found a handful natural ways to remedy general anxiety and mitigate stress; these things won't be a cure-all or an instant fix – especially if you're dealing with severe levels of anxiety – but they'll definitely take the edge off and help you feel relaxed and in control again.
Diffuse Oils
Recommended to me by a therapist, my oil diffuser has become one of my treasured possessions. I typically use a combination of eucalyptus, lavender, jasmine, and ylang ylang, all of which have calming properties and make my room smell incredible. I diffuse while I'm at home on the weekends, and every night before I go to sleep. If you have a private office, oil diffusing can be a great way to manage stress and anxiety at work.
Eat the Right Foods
Folate, B12, magnesium, and Omega-3s are known to aid in stress and anxiety reduction. What does that mean in terms of food? Asparagus and leafy greens, avocado, citrus fruit, whole grains, a bowl of oatmeal, and salmon are all great additions to your diet. While dealing with the toughest months of anxiety, I started loading up on salmon – it's now one of my favorite, go-to foods. Not big on the fishy taste? Opt for Pacific instead of Atlantic when you can, since it's less gamey. I also took Omega-3 and B12 supplements, which are super easy to find at any supermarket or health store.
Now to be a buzz kill: you've gotta avoid coffee – it's actually one of the worst things you can do while you're suffering from anxiety – as well as candy and processed sugars, and alcohol. Need to satiate a sweet tooth? Try dark chocolate: it can actually help with anxiety and depression.
Lavender, Lavender, Lavender
Lavender is known for it's calming, soothing properties – and you can ingest it! I love Nature's Way CalmAid lavender capsules, hot honey lavender tea, and Suja's Lavenade, a vanilla (vanilla = magnesium = yes) lavender lemonade, which to me is like a liquid chill pill. Plus, it's delicious, so that's an added bonus.
Yoga and Meditation
I know, it sounds clichéd. You're stressed? Go to yoga! But in all honesty, yoga really carried me through the hardest months of my life. When I was feeling particularly overwhelmed, on the precipice of panic attack, I booked two to three yoga classes in a day. The release that came with yoga – that hour (or more) of me time on my mat – is something I still cherish and have as a part of my weekly routine. If you prefer a home practice, try this yoga sequence, which is aimed at helping the mind - and body - relax.
Run and Exercise
Maybe yoga's not your jam! Try taking up running, or another form of exercise. When I'm not at yoga or spin, I'm going for a run outside. Being in the sun and feeling the release of endorphins is great; besides, all I can focus on in that moment is how I can't breathe and my lungs are on fire, so I don't have the brain capacity to be stressed.
Get Enough Sleep
This one may seem obvious, but a friendly reminder: less sleep equals more anxiety. Get your zzzs (hopefully with the aid of oil diffusing) and rest up from the working out you've been doing; you'll feel the benefits in no time.
Give Yourself a Break
Above all, give yourself some grace and cut yourself a little slack. Everyone goes through hard times, and nobody is expecting you to be perfect – it took me a long time (i.e., my entire life so far) to realize that I don't have to hold myself to a perfect standard all the time. Learning this significantly helped decrease my day-to-day anxiety (and I hope it will help you, too!).
5 Minutes to Your Sexiest Body
Sometimes (or maybe most of the time), getting motivated to work out can be rough. We get it. So we made a short workout - it's only five minutes long - with a very entertaining trainer. If calling out the thematically named exercises (think koalas and kangaroos) in his Aussie accent doesn't get you smiling, listen for the pickup lines - there are many perfectly cheesy ones sprinkled throughout the sweat session. See how many you can count! So grab some light weights if you have them, press play, and get ready to find your inner kangaroo.
12 Smoothies That Satisfy Intense Chocolate Cravings
When a chocolate craving hits, it's a call that should never go unanswered. But that doesn't mean you need to rush to the candy aisle to get your fix. Besides tasting deceptively like dessert, these smoothies are creamy, full of protein, and chock-full of antioxidants - basically, health food that tastes just like your favorite cookie, cake, or ice cream treat. Life doesn't get much better than that.
The 1 Move Every Woman Should Do (and It's Not Squats)
There's one word in the world of fitness that millions of women have grown to truly loathe: squats. Just saying it can elicit shrieks from some of the most mentally tough women around. So let's discuss one move every fit woman needs to do in the gym - and it's not squatting. In fact, the single most important exercise to master today for improved fitness, strength, and overall health is the deadlift.
After years of hearing nothing but "squat, squat, squat" from your trainer, you might be confused. The deadlift is similar to the squat in that it forces you to use many muscle groups simultaneously. More muscles worked means more lean muscle and less fat in the long run so that's a win for both squat and deadlifts. The added benefit with the deadlift is that it uses even more muscles in each rep. While the squat is great for your lower body, the deadlift forces your arms and upper body to work too.
Want another reason? According to Toronto-based personal trainer Nathane Jackson, CSCS, author of Nathane Jackson's Whole Health Revolution (coming later in 2016), the deadlift is also the safer option. So, it's safer and works more muscles - we're all in, but how the heck do you do one properly? We covered the basics right here, but because it can be a hard move to truly master (just look at the folks doing them wrong at your local gym), we asked Jackson to pass along some pointers.
First, opt for a bar instead of dumbbells - even if you've got no weight on the bar - to ensure that your grip stays steady and you aren't waving your arms to move the weight. Then you should point your toes straight ahead or slightly outwards. From there, Jackson told us that you should "create a double chin, by pulling the chin back towards your neck and pull your shoulder blades back and down towards the hips and pretend you are squeezing an orange in your arm pits." The next step is the key in the movement: "Simultaneously hinge at the hips and bend at the knees until both hands are gripping the bar (overhand, hook grip) just outside the shins. From here, push through the mid foot and think about driving the hips forward as you stand up straight. Exhale (like you mean it - it's OK to make noise in the gym!) once the bar travels past your knees, being careful not to lean back."
If you nail the deadlift like this and keep it in your regular weekly routine, you'll find that you're sculpting your lower and upper body, while getting stronger and leaner all over. Sounds like it's a good time to do some deadlifts. You can thank us later. Enjoy!

6 Ways to Make Chinese New Year a Healthy Celebration
Lunar New Year is arguably one of the most important celebrations on the Chinese calendar. The two-week festival, which begins today, is steeped in tradition, and like many holidays, much of it centers around bringing people together through food - dumplings, turnip cakes, and Buddha's Delight are all favorites during this time, and depending on preparation, can be full of healthy benefits. Besides upping the nutritional content of your diet, many of the traditional dishes consumed during the Lunar New Year are believed to bring luck and prosperity. Be sure to enjoy these delicacies as we usher in the year of the monkey!
- For many families celebrating the Lunar New Year, dumplings are a staple. Choose offerings that are steamed and boiled over those that are fried. And making a classic Chinese dumpling isn't as hard as you think. This recipe for shui jiao, or boiled dumplings, only requires a few simple ingredients.
- During this time of the year, it's a given that you will see mandarin oranges and tangerines - both are symbolic of the Lunar New Year. Families often buy small potted trees and present the citrus fruit as a gift of abundance and fortune to friends and relatives. Eat one on its own or add some slices to a salad - the fruit is an excellent source of vitamins A and C.
- Noodles are traditionally eaten for luck in Asian cultures and symbolize long life. When deciding between the many options, opt for soba noodles, which are full of protein, iron, fiber, and amino acids. Try our light recipe for gluten-free noodle salad with ginger peanut dressing.
- Yusheng is a raw fish salad made up of heart-healthy salmon and lots of fresh shredded veggies like daikon, yams, cucumbers, and ginger. The dish is usually eaten on the seventh day of the holiday and symbolizes abundance in the upcoming year. If making yusheng seems daunting, you can enjoy similar flavors and health benefits with this easy-to-make sushi bowl.
- Melon seeds are commonly eaten during the Lunar Year to bring fertility. Sold mostly in Asian grocery stores, melon seeds are often substituted with pumpkin seeds when they're unavailable, a great source of manganese, phosphorus, and magnesium.
- Go meat free! Following a vegetarian diet is a common Lunar New Year tradition. Because so much of the two-week holiday revolves around food, individuals eat a strict vegetarian diet on the 13th day as a way to naturally cleanse the body.
