The Most Mind-Blowing School Dress Code Violation Yet
On a cold Michigan morning, Madyson Fields threw on a chunky infinity scarf, a flowy gray knit sweater, and cropped black pants.
The outfit, which might seem fashionable yet understated to some, is causing a major controversy after the eighth-grade student was told it that it was inappropriate to wear around male students.
"My daughter was told by a teacher at Marshall Public Schools that she was a distraction to the boys today," wrote Madyson's mom, Brooke Fields, according to the Battle Creek Enquirer. "My straight A student was called out in front of the class and told the boys were staring at her. If I wouldn't have been home, she would have had to sit in ISS (in school suspension) all day. This is wrong."
However, Marshall Middle School Principal David Turner said in an email that Fields's Facebook post was inaccurate and that the student would have been allowed to return to class after the discussion about her outfit. He says that Madyson was talked to in private at the teacher's desk and then sent to the school office to "have administration check that the clothing did not violate the dress code policy."
While her black bottoms could be mistaken as leggings from afar, Fields said that her daughter was wearing pants. Turner wrote that the staff recently talked to all students about the dress code and explained that "tights can be worn, but clothing must cover mid thigh, that she had been talked to before about dress code items, and that her clothing could be distracting to boys."
Fields took to Facebook a second time to defend her decision to share her daughter's story and stresses that she is not a helicopter parent. "I hold my daughter accountable for her actions, just as I expect others to be accountable for theirs. My intent was never to bring shame to Marshall, as I am a proud parent of a Marshall RedHawk," wrote Fields. "I saw a huge injustice done to my daughter and it wasn't the first time a comment of that sort had been made. I have taught her to work through adversity and follow the rules. If she breaks them, she deserves the punishment. I have also taught her to stand up for herself and others when there is a wrong."
Breaking the rules is one thing, but when are we going to stop blaming girls for boys' attention spans?

This Dad Just Experienced His Scariest Parenting Moment Ever Skiing With His Son
Ethan's Near Death ExperienceAll, I've decide to reactivate my Facebook page only to share with you "THE" most frightening experience I have had as a father, and the dangers of tree wells. What you're about to see is a very real threat and there are many who die each year. Fortunately I was there to pull my son out. Please, take the time to know the dangers around you. Most importantly, never ski alone.
Posted by Winston Goss on Tuesday, February 9, 2016
Winston Goss and son Ethan were skiing together when Winston faced his most frightening parenting moment ever: Ethan disappeared from view after a jump, and his screams - though muffled - could just be heard in the dead silence on the mountain. Winston managed to capture the entire near-death experience on video and posted it to Facebook to educate people about tree wells (the space under a tree around the trunk that's void of snow, but has high drifts around it) and the dangers skiers face every day because of them. Luckily for this father-son duo, because they were skiing together and Winston saw Ethan disappear, he was able to pull Ethan out of the snow that he was wedged in.
Watch the video to see Winston save the day in what could have been a truly tragic moment.

This Is the Ultimate Ode to Parenting
When the nights are endless and the mornings seem like a whirlwind of chaos, sometimes you feel like you're completely alone in the struggle. But as you power through the ups and downs of parenting, it's essential to keep in mind why you're doing what you're doing: for your child. This stunning poem, written by an unknown author and making the rounds on Facebook, eloquently makes sense of the mixed emotions that parenthood brings and puts them all into perspective. There will be a last time for every experience you share with your little one, so be sure to cherish them all!
The Last Time
From the moment you hold your baby in your arms,
You will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
When you have freedom and time,
And nothing in particular to worry about. You will know tiredness like you never knew before,
And days will run into days that are exactly the same,
Full of feedings and burping,
Nappy changes and crying,
Whining and fighting,
Naps or a lack of naps,
It might seem like a never-ending cycle.But don't forget . . .
There is a last time for everything.
There will come a time when you will feed
Your baby for the very last time.
They will fall asleep on you after a long day
And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child. One day you will carry them on your hip, then set them down,
And never pick them up that way again.
You will scrub their hair in the bath one night
And from that day on, they will want to bathe alone.
They will hold your hand to cross the road,
Then never reach for it again.
They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles,
And it will be the last night you ever wake to this. One afternoon you will sing "The Wheels on the Bus"
And do all the actions,
Then never sing them that song again.
They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate,
The next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.
You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face.
They will run to you with arms raised for the very last time. The thing is, you won't even know it's the last time
Until there are no more times.
And even then, it will take you a while to realize. So while you are living in these times,
Remember there are only so many of them
And when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them.
For one last time.

This Son Spent a Year Throwing Eggs at His Mom, but It's Actually Hilarious
Hey Mum, CATCH!This guy spent over a year throwing eggs to his unsuspecting mum...
Posted by UNILAD on Thursday, February 11, 2016
One unsuspecting mother has had quite the stressful year due to her joker of a son who decided to spend a portion of every day throwing an egg at her. Sounds kind of harsh, but seriously, it's the most hilarious thing we've seen in a long time. While we do feel bad for her (and all of the eggs whose plans to become omelets were quite literally smashed in the making of this video), we can't stop laughing - mostly because all she can do in each clip is scream "NOOO" before it's too late.
Watch the video to see her son's hilarious antics - and her pretty impressing catching skills - for yourself.

Parents: Know These Facts If Your Kids Use the Kik App
Our friends at Common Sense Media are here to share the facts about Kik Messenger, an app that many teens and tweens use to communicate
Kids and teens love using the chatting app Kik Messenger because it's free, it's popular with their friends, and they can quickly and efficiently add cool Web content - memes, viral videos, images, and more - to their texts without any message or character limits. The ability to easily interact with and share popular, trending items is a huge draw for kids (whose lives pretty much revolve around the Internet). The other thing kids like about Kik is that you can sign up with only a username; you don't have to tie your account to your phone number, as you would with traditional SMS messaging. That lets you chat with a much wider range of potential chat buddies - whom you may or may not know. It's been connected to the alleged murder of a 13-year-old Virginia girl by a college student.
Parents also should be aware that inside the Kik app is a huge range of other apps, some of which cost money and not all of which are age-appropriate. The additional content defies categorization: There's Nearby, a Tinder-like dating game that matches you to other users in your area; the New York Times, which offers access to top stories as well as more in-depth articles for a fee; Funny Pics, a gallery of photos from the website Reddit; and Jam, where you can read about musical artists, see photos, watch videos, buy merchandise, and, of course, chat with other fans. There also are lots and lots of games. Learn more about the pros and cons of Kik and how to help your kid use it responsibly.

Watch Kerry Washington in the Gripping Trailer For Confirmation, HBO's Anita Hill Movie
It's been months since we got the first look at Kerry Washington in Confirmation, and now we have a full-on teaser! HBO's upcoming film features Washington as Anita Hill, the woman famous for testifying that she was sexually assaulted by Clarence Thomas, who was vying for a seat as a Supreme Court Justice. Jennifer Hudson and Greg Kinnear are also starring in the film, which premieres on April 16. Honestly, it's a little strange not to see Washington and immediately think of her as Olivia Pope, but then again, Olivia would never wear some of those '90s pantsuits. Check out the trailer!

Reminder: The Deadpool Villain Was Once a Very Memorable Game of Thrones Star
When Deadpool hits the big screen this weekend, people will be talking about a lot - Ryan Reynolds's face, the sex, the violence, the incredible soundtrack. But there's one thing I am dying to talk about, as a person who enjoyed the movie - and also a person who loves Game of Thrones. Because the Deadpool villain Ajax, played by Ed Skrein (seen here), is also Daario Naharis.
Confused? Let me explain:
The Daario you know and love is now portrayed by Michiel Huisman - whom you may recall is actually the second Daario.
You may have forgotten that there was an original Daario, probably because it was all the way back in season three. That, of course, was Ed Skrein, who is now terrorizing Reynolds in the Marvel movie.
See? Just picture bald Ajax with all his glorious Daario hair.
Yep.

The Walking Dead: Here's Why the New Villain Is Such a Huge Deal
If you think you've seen scum and villainy on The Walking Dead before, you ain't seen nothin' yet. A few months back, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Magic City) was cast in a major role on the series: Negan. The man is a major villain in the comic-book series, and though we can't be sure how closely the show will follow the comics, we can assume he's still a major bad guy. If you're unfamiliar with the character, here's what you need to know about him before the midseason premiere. Warning: comic-book spoilers follow!
He is the leader of a group called the Saviors.
Negan is an evil, king-like figure to a group of survivors called the Saviors. Think of them as the mob, and Negan as a psychotic Al Capone. They offer protection to other communities in the area in exchange for resources, but if they lapse on a payment, the Saviors will basically ruin them.
He has an infamously brutal weapon.
Ask any fan of The Walking Dead comics who Lucille is, and watch them shudder. Negan carries a baseball bat covered in barbed wire as his weapon. He affectionately names it Lucille, and it is responsible for some of the most notable kills in the series.
In the comics, he's the one who kills Glenn.
After weeks of leaving us in the lurch, the show finally reveals that Glenn is alive after his recent brush with death. Unfortunately, this may mean he's about to be killed in the same way as he is in the books. Negan is the one who murders him, and it's horrific. He bashes Glenn's head in with Lucille while Rick, Maggie, and Carl all watch.
He steals everyone's wives to have as his own.
Despite being outspoken about hating sexual violence, Negan has a harem of wives. The women are actually the wives of other men, but he takes them as his own. He and his women live in an abandoned factory called the Sanctuary.
He burns the faces of his enemies.
Negan is one villain you absolutely don't want to mess with, because he will literally burn your face off. His preferred choice of punishment for those who betray him is a hot iron, which he heats over a fire then sears the faces of his enemies with.

The Walking Dead's Midseason Premiere Trailers Will Leave You Gasping For Breath
The midseason premiere of The Walking Dead is coming this Sunday, and in addition to a trailer, there have been plenty of teasers. The official trailer starts where the finale left off, with Rick, Carl, Michonne, Jessie, and her kids getting ready to brave the undead horde in some intestine-chic t-shirts, as we hear an ominous voiceover from Rick saying, "I thought living behind these walls was possible. I was wrong." From there, the trailer gives us glimpses of Negan's crew, Rick wielding a hatchet, and Glenn fighting off zombies while Maggie desperately screams his name. Is this a not-so-subtle foreshadowing for Glenn's untimely demise? We'll have to wait and see. Watch all the bloody action now!

The 1 Experience That Made Me Redefine Being a Catholic Latina
When I saw my Puerto Rican grandmother after returning from a trip to Thailand last Fall, I showed her the bracelet a monk had blessed and tied around my wrist. She wrinkled her nose and shook her head. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree: After telling my mom about spending time in Buddhist temples during the trip, she seemed perplexed. I quickly gave up talking to them about that aspect of my getaway, realizing that in their minds, as a Catholic, participating in anything even remotely connected to another religion is essentially blasphemy.
This was a familiar narrative throughout my life. Despite the fact that we mainly just went to church on holidays, it was always ingrained in me - like it is in many Latino children - that I had been baptized Catholic and would always be Catholic. It never even occurred to me until after college that I had a choice in my own beliefs, that just because my mother practices something doesn't mean I have to.
The majority of Thai people are Buddhist, a creed I wasn't very familiar with before visiting. Throughout the trip, I paid close attention to their religious practices: amulets on a cab driver's dashboard, covered shoulders while entering a temple, bows of reverence in front of Buddha images. It was worlds away from the rosaries and crucifixes of my upbringing. I found myself curious, wanting to learn more about this belief system. But I also felt guilty, imagining God or (almost as bad!) my grandmother could hear my thoughts. Knowing that more than half of Latinos in the US are Catholic, I wondered: Would considering another faith make me less Latina? How do you know what you believe, vs. what you've been told to believe?
Inside the 150-foot tall Big Buddha temple in Phuket, I saw people approaching a monk on their knees. Instinct led me to follow suit. As I kneeled before him, he smiled, whispering something as he tied a bracelet around my wrist. I walked away in a daze, climbing the stairs to check out the temple's 360-degree views of the island. The panorama left me breathless; I pulled my shawl tighter around my shoulders to cover the goose bumps forming on my arms. And then, I heard the lightest whisper, so quiet I was sure I'd imagined it: "Peace." I looked around, but I saw what I already knew. My friends were on the other side of the shrine, and I was alone. I closed my eyes and held the gold cross around my neck - the one my grandmother gave me when I was a baby - and thanked God for that moment.
Since, the word peace keeps nudging its way into my brain, whether I'm in mass or running 20 minutes late to work because of subway delays. For now, I still consider myself Catholic, and I 110 percent believe in God. But exploring a completely different culture taught me that my beliefs don't have to be so black and white. I can be a practicing Catholic who receives Communion, meditates, and accepts messages of peace from monks. That doesn't make me any less Catholic or Latina. It just makes me, me.

8 Ways to Watch TV Without Cable
Still paying for cable but looking for a way out? We've got a few ideas of how to keep up with your favorite shows without paying the absurd amount cable companies make you shell out. Each service has different prices with a variety of shows to offer, so it's really about prioritizing how much you really need to see your cable shows every week. Take a look ahead and don't be afraid to finally cut the cord!
- Hulu ($8-12 a month): Within Hulu, there are two tiers: a limited commercial plan and one without commercials. Whichever path you choose, you'll get to see your current TV shows the next day. You can also pay an additional $9 a month to add Showtime to your Hulu account, letting you watch shows like Homeland.
- Showtime Now ($11 a month after 30-day free trial): Download the app, and you can watch all your favorite shows and movies.
- Playstation Vue ($49-$65 a month): If you just enjoy loafing around watching all sorts of TV, Playstation Vue might be your best package. There are three different packages, each that offer a slew of cable TV shows. The basic tier called Access ($49 a month) gets you a lot already. You'll get channels like CBS, NBC, MTV, Bravo, and AMC. The next tier, Core ($55 a month, originally $60), gets you the same package but with other channels like IFC, Sundance, and TNT. The Elite package ($65 a month, originally $70) will bring you Fox College Sports, Teen Nick, the Cooking Channel and more.
- Sling TV ($20 a month): With Sling TV, you can watch channels like CNN, HGTV, the Disney Channel, and ESPN at the set price of twenty dollars. For just an extra five dollars a month, you can add on extra packages like "Sports," which brings you ESPNU. Or, try the "Hollywood" extra plan and get TCM, Epix and others.
- CBS All Access ($6 a month): Like Hulu, you can watch any new episode from a CBS show the next day from when it airs. You also gain access to tons of episodes on demand so your binge-watching doesn't start or end with just Netflix.
- Netflix ($8-$12 a month): You can't chill without Netflix and you can't Netflix without chill. While the service doesn't show you the latest episodes of your favorite cable shows, it does offer plenty of original series that will satisfy your TV itch.
- HBO Now ($15 a month): Watch your premium cable network without paying the premium with HBO Now. You get to watch both TV shows and movies from the channel, which is really a win-win situation.
- Amazon Prime ($99 a year): Similar to Netflix, you won't get to see current episodes of TV shows but you will get to see award-winning original series like Transparent. You'll also get free two-day shipping, unlimited music streaming, and photo storage.
Now go buy yourself an Apple TV or Chromecast device and get started on your new life free from cable!

This Duo Sang "Circle of Life" With Modern Lyrics, and It's Hilariously Real
Have you unplugged lately? Because you're not alone if your phone is the first thing you look at when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you see before falling asleep. YouTubers Dustin & Genevieve perfectly summed up this modern life in a single, hilarious song.
The viral music video for "Virtual Life," their take on The Lion King's "Circle of Life," comically points out the various tech-fueled flaws in today's society. And while lyrics like "There's my mama ranting 'bout Obama / in all caps, improper use of commas" will certainly make you chuckle, there's definitely a more serious message within the funny video. Consider the chorus:
It's the virtual life and it fools us all,
we compare and scroll so we'll measure up,
We will take selfies in the perfect lighting,
It's the virtual, the virtual life.
The entire surprisingly gorgeous rendition of the Disney song will make you laugh, especially the references to stalking college acquaintances on Instagram and taking an hour to snap the perfect social media photo. But as you watch, let it also serve as a reminder to put down the phone and live authentically every so often. It doesn't get much more #blessed than that!

The Beautiful Story of How a 9-Year-Old Became Iron Boy For a Day
Iron Boy saves SydneyThe wish of a seriously ill 9-year-old boy has come true - he's been declared a superhero for a day, carrying out a vital rescue mission and saving the city of Sydney from dangerous villains.New South Wales Police and the children's charity, Make-A-Wish Australia, today joined forces, with the blessing of the Walt Disney Company Australia, to fulfil the dreams of "Domenic", a schoolboy from Bringelly in Sydney's south-west, who suffers from the life-threatening illness, Cystic Fibrosis.Around 9am this morning, Domenic received an urgent call for assistance from senior police and was flown by police helicopter from a suburban Sydney park to a busy Operations Centre at Police Headquarters, Parramatta. It was there he transformed into the superhero, "Iron Boy," and was tasked with rescuing "Make-A-Wish" reporter, Hope Joy, from the clutches of villainous henchmen at a secret hideout.Police used Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats or RHIBs to ferry the nine-year-old and his family at speed to Clark Island on Sydney Harbour to carry out the rescue.Iron Boy was then called upon to battle his arch nemesis, "Ultron," on the steps of the Sydney Opera House before handing him over to police.Domenic's 12-year-old brother, Joseph, played the role of Iron Boy's Marvel Comics sidekick, "War –Machine," aka "Colonel Rhodes."New South Wales Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione, commended Domenic's courage during a special medal presentation."On behalf of a grateful Police Force and indeed the people of Sydney, I would like to thank Domenic for his tremendous efforts today," Commissioner Scipione said."It can't be easy dealing with an illness like his and we feel privileged to be able to work with Make-A-Wish Australia to ensure his wish to be a famous superhero came true," he added."It also allows the Police Force to express its community-mindedness and sensitive side; and I hope we have made Domenic's day."It was also my great honour to present Domenic, or should I say "Iron Boy," with a special acknowledgement, a Commissioner's Award for Gallantry."Not only has Domenic battled villains and saved his city, he's stared down his illness and won the day."

Meet Domenic Pace, a 9-year-old boy from New South Wales, Australia, also known as Iron Boy. Domenic has been suffering from cystic fibrosis - a chronic illness that mainly affects the lungs - for much of his life. Despite his condition, he managed to save Sydney from shady characters and dangerous villains when he morphed into Iron Boy, Iron Man's inspiring new protégé.
Thanks to Make-A-Wish Australia, Domenic was able to be a superhero for what seemed like the best day ever. The day started with Domenic receiving the day's mission at police headquarters . . . which he arrived at by helicopter (no big deal). Domenic then spent the day rescuing Make-A-Wish reporter Hope Joy, fiercely battling his enemy Ultron's henchmen, and finally defeating said enemy at the Sydney Opera House.
What's more, Iron Man himself - aka Robert Downey Jr. - confirmed Domenic's special mission via Twitter and then again in a sweet Facebook video.
Sent a very special boy on a top secret mission today. Go get 'em, Domenic! #IronBoyAU @MakeAWishAust
- Robert Downey Jr (@RobertDowneyJr) February 11, 2016
We love how Make-A-Wish - and the Internet - helped Domenic publicly become the superhero that he's been all along. Now we'll just be weeping in the corner if you need us.

2 Friends Dressed Up as 1 Person to Sneak Into a Movie Theater, and It's AMAZING
What would you do to save money on a movie ticket? YouTuber Bo Johnson and his friend Matthew hatched a crazy but brilliant plan to dress up as one person and sneak into the theater. Naturally, this plan seemed completely impossible (and not to mention uncomfortable for the person hiding under the shirt and jacket), but the two friends managed to pull it off with a couple of laughs along the way. We're not saying you should try this anytime soon . . . though this is actually quite genius. Since the video went up at the end of January, it's racked up more than 1.6 million views.

Every Song on Sia's New Album and the Pop Star Who Was Supposed to Sing It
Sia's new album, This Is Acting, is finally here, delivering excellence in the form of power ballads like "Alive" and brilliant soaring hits like "Bird Set Free." When you take a step back, though, there's something else about the album that's fascinating: almost every track was sent to another artist first. Of course, Sia has a history of writing megahits for huge pop stars, and rejected pop songs are not an anamoly in the music industry. Even so, there's something quite unique about an album that combines all these missed opportunities into a sonically spectacular group of misfits. Keep reading for all the artists who helped make This Is Acting happen.

The Bachelor: Ranking the Top Contenders to Win Ben's Heart
There are few guilty pleasures out there more satisfying than an episode of The Bachelor, and this season has been straight-up scandalous. All the girls brought their A game, while Olivia brought the crazy. (Just kidding, she's probably a really nice person.) Still, every week, Ben has to get rid of some ladies that he really likes. There are six women left (Amanda, Becca, Emily, JoJo, Caila, and Lauren B.), but only one will get Ben in the end. Here are the four I think have the best shot - as of this point in the game show.

The 3 Things I Do Every Day at Work to Stay Healthy
As a fitness editor, it's hard for me to sit at a desk for eight hours a day. I love being active and taking care of my body – and an office doesn't necessarily lend itself to that. Personally, I try as much as possible to squeeze in at least one workout each day (sometimes two!), whether it's an early a.m. run through the park, a yoga class at lunch, or a Spin session at my gym after work.
Realistically, though, not everyone has time (or energy) to get those workouts in. You still have to take care of yourself! Here are three things you can add to your day to bolster your health super seamlessly, with no effort.
Drink a LOT of Water
Not only does it keep you hydrated, but the side effect of massive water consumption is - you guessed it - several trips to the bathroom. While it may be a tad annoying at first, once you get used to it, said trips will actually force you to get up out of your chair and walk around, which is great for your spine, legs, and sanity. Keep a bottle on your desk to remind you to drink more H2O.
Protect Your Eyes
Staring at a computer screen for hours on end can destroy your vision. Set an alarm for every 20 minutes: blink your eyes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. I use the eyeCare Chrome extension, which pops up every 20 minutes and reminds me just how frequently I need to close my eyes to save my vision from deteriorating.
Every twenty minutes.
Stretch Every Day
Take a few minutes every day after work to stretch out. Pigeon pose is perfect for stretching and rolling out the hips after sitting in a chair all day. You can also use this time to meditate and take some deep breaths to let go of the stress from your day.

Healthy Travel Tips From a Globetrotting Professional Surfer
Not many people understand the challenge of staying healthy while traveling more than professional surfer Lakey Peterson. As a part of the World Surf League (WSL) Women's World Tour, Lakey rarely gets a moment to catch her breath in between surf contests from Brazil to Fiji and tons of other international locales.
But when you're a professional athlete, especially with surfing - which is a total-body workout - it's imperative that you maintain peak physical form. Lakey in particular lives an incredibly healthy lifestyle, both at home and on tour - while spending some time with her at her home in Santa Barbara, I got a little insight into her diet and exercise habits.
From snacking on the plane to resistance workouts at the hotel, Lakey's got a great set of tips that can work for anyone hoping to stay fit on a long trip.

Roll Out at the Airport
"I travel with a foam roller, so at the airport, I always roll out and stretch before I jump on the flight. Its pretty funny actually; people look at me like I am crazy."
Stretch on the Plane
"I get up and walk around a lot when I am on planes. I like to stretch a little bit as well. Just simple things - touch my toes, do some rotation twists. Compression breaths are really good to get your rib cage reset after sitting for a little while. If you are on a long flight, get up and walk around every few hours if you can."
BYO Flight Snacks
"Bring some of your own snacks on flights; I love bringing avocados and trail mix. I try to make my own snacks, just because that way I know exactly what is in everything and what I am putting in my body. Exercise isn't everything . . . eating well is equally if not more important. Be aware of what you are putting in your body!"
Drink Extra Water
"Traveling on planes dehydrates you, so you want to be drinking even more water than normal."
Always Work Out Post-Flight
"Stretch and foam roll. Always do a workout when you get off of a flight! It helps with jet lag, and feels good to sweat."
Pack Some Lightweight Exercise Gear
"I always pack resistance bands and a jump rope when I travel. That way I can do workouts pretty much anywhere I go."
Celebrate Your Health
"Being healthy and having the option to work out and eat well is such a blessing. My biggest tip is to take advantage of that! If you're in a place where you can get outside and get some exercise, do it! Don't take that for granted."
