Acne-Prone Blogger Slams Her Haters With Emotional Video

YouTube beauty bloggers have it tough. Their job (and passion!) subjects them to the comments of millions - and many of these comments are vicious and hateful. We're proud to see that some are finally taking a stand against their haters! First it was NikkieTutorials with her viral #PowerOfMakeup video, and now Em Ford of My Pale Skin is hitting back.

A few months ago, Em began posting videos of herself - acne-prone skin and all - without makeup. Viewers started hurling rude judgments like "WTF is wrong with her face?" and "You look disgusting." Em also got comments from subscribers who also suffer from acne, begging for help and divulging serious depression. She decided to make a video that showed the unrealistic expectations set by social media. "As a society, we're so used to seeing false images of perfection and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards," she said. "It can be hard to remember the most important thing - you ARE beautiful."

After sharing the video, Em received an outpouring of support on social media, making the hashtag #YouLookDisgusting go viral. Watch and prepare to feel moved.

16 Major Dos and Don'ts at a Job Interview

Job interview coming up? Don't be nervous! Just follow these guidelines below, and you'll be fine.

Do

  1. Wear the right outfit: Make sure you know what the dress code is for the office. One good idea is to check with HR before the interview to get a feel of what you should wear.
  2. Bring copies of your résumé: Although you're sure the company has your résumé, it never fails to bring copies of your just in case your interviewer needs to look at it and doesn't have it in front of her.
  3. Have a nice folder for your résumé: Just so your résumé doesn't look like something cat dragged in, keep it in pristine condition in a professional-looking folder. Here are other important items to bring to an interview.
  4. Have the appropriate body language: Be aware of how you're carrying yourself during an interview, because your posture, eye contact, and relaxed position can impress your interviewer. Remember to sit still and straight and don't fidget. Here are more body language tips to help.
  5. Give the right answer to the weakness question: This could be the question that could trip you up. Be honest and give a real answer and not a cop-out one. Here are more tips on how to answer the question.
  6. Be on time or slightly early: Turning up five to 10 minutes early is the sweet spot for interviews. Showing up too early can make things awkward, and showing up too late is a red flag. But just because you only have to get there shortly before the interview starts doesn't mean that you can leave your house later. Plan to be near the interview spot a lot earlier than when it starts to account for unexpected delays like traffic, and hang around in a nearby coffee shop until it's close to the interview time.
  7. Prepare the right questions for the interviewer: Make sure you've prepared a list of good questions to ask your interviewer at the end. Pay attention throughout the interview, so you'll have questions related to what the hiring manager talked about. This shows that you're actively listening.
  8. Send a thank you note: Always send a thank you note (here's a good template) after the interview. This is something that's appreciated by a lot of recruiters. It's also your chance to make a final impression or clarify anything you didn't get around to in your interview.

Don't

  1. Think the interview is over until you walk out the door: The interview will continue until you walk out the office door, so be careful of your behavior and your words even when your hiring manager is done firing questions at you. Be polite and on top of your game when you are making casual conversation on your way out, and be nice to the receptionist.
  2. Get too relaxed: Your interviewer can seem like your long-lost BFF, but . . . she's not. And you shouldn't treat her like one. It's OK to be friendly, but you're still trying to make a good impression. Don't be too relaxed or you may slip up and do something that's unprofessional. She's not going to base the interview solely on how likeable you are.
  3. Badmouth your old job: Maybe you had a boss à la Devil Wears Prada, but your hiring manager doesn't need to know that. Badmouthing your former employer just gives off negative vibes and detracts from your professionalism.
  4. Be unprepared: This should be obvious, but research the company to death. Here's how. This is so you can craft your answers to fit the kind of candidate they're looking for and show that you're diligent and have done your homework.
  5. Address salary or benefits until the interviewer does: OK, so they are very important factors for you, but hold off until you get the job offer. Your interviewer wants to see what you can do for the company, not what's in it for you.
  6. Freak out if you don't know the answer: The interviewer just threw you a big curveball by asking you to do some calculations when you have a phobia of math. Don't. Freak. Out. The worst thing you can do is to clam up when you don't know an answer, because you won't be able to think clearly and may throw out a bad answer in panic. Here's what to do you if you don't know how to answer a question.
  7. Lie: Never, ever lie. Being found out will ruin your chances of getting the job. Plus if you make up something, you may not be able to talk at length about it without slipping up. Generally speaking, honesty is the best policy! Here are some of the common lies you need to avoid.
  8. Talk about your problems: You need the job to pay off your student loans, blah blah. The hiring manager does not want to hear about your 99 problems, and although you're being honest, it can come off as a pity party. You will be hired based on your qualifications, potential for success, and your fit with the culture. Everything else will be secondary to those factors.

Henry Cavill has admitted to some interesting things on talk shows before, but his latest story might be his funniest one yet. But that isn't even the funniest part. "I needed to pee," he added. Find out how he resolved the issue in the video above, then check out the time he adorably talked to little kids about Superman.

How to Hide Dark Circles, Rosacea, and Dull Skin ASAP

I tend to have a red flush to my skin. It's not full-blown rosacea, but it's red enough that I notice it, and it bothers me. That's how I first learned about color correcting, actually. I realized several years ago that if I used a green primer before applying foundation, it took down the redness and made me use less foundation. Hallelujah!

So yeah, color correcting is a miracle worker of sorts. It's not a cure-all, but if you have dark circles, a blemish, or dull skin, it has transformative powers. And plenty of brands are getting in on the trend: last year, Make Up For Ever came out with several color-correcting and skin-finishing primers. This year, everyone - and I mean everyone - has an option to help eradicate your worst skin woes: YSL, Stila, Tarte, even Beautyblender! (For the record, NYX is a veteran in the color-correcting game.)

There are three ways to color correct, and they're all simple. Green and yellow help cover up redness in the skin, like blemishes or rosacea, while orange and red help with dark circles, and pink and purple shades are the major keys to gorgeous, brighter-looking skin.

Your Kylie Lip Kit Gloss Will Now Have a Fluffier Brush

You're about to love your Kylie Lip Kit even more! (That is, if you can get your hands on one.) The reality star revealed via Snapchat that she is redoing the brush on the lipgloss to make it fluffier. She said: "I do want to show you guys this, because I'm not releasing Kourt K today, but I'm going to release it really soon. I made the floc a bit fluffier."

In layman's terms: the floc is the brush head used to apply the product. Kylie said she did this to make it "fluffier and more comfortable on the lips." Hopefully this results in use getting more formula on the brush, and consequently, fuller-looking lips. Keep up with this exciting new upgrade by scrolling through.

9 Things You Should Never Say to Your Tween

The tween years are complicated - at that crucial range between 10 and 12 years old, your tween is still a child, but quickly heading toward the teenage years. At this stage, children are deep in the trenches of the awkward middle school years, and at this time grow at different rates, begin to go through puberty, start to become curious about dating, and are toeing the line between being communicative children and disconnected teens.

Having a tween is like negotiating your way through a minefield, so in order to help you keep communication open with your child, we've come up with 9 things that you should never say to your tween.

  1. "What were you thinking?" The thing is, even if we have a lot of faith in the examples we've set for our kids, they're going to make their own mistakes as a result of their surroundings, friends, and impulses. You can't protect your child from every mistake they make - they're at an age where what they need from you is guidance and acceptance, not constant accusations.
  2. "How was school/your day?" Asking this question - though your intentions are in the right place - is likely going to end up resulting in an automatic "good" or "fine" response. In order to really encourage open communication and trust, try something open-ended like, "Tell me about your day," or "Tell me the best thing you learned in school today." These inquiries require a thought-out answer and will inspire expanded communication.
  3. "If you spent half as much time studying as you did _____, you'd get better grades." We all want our children to do well in school, but within the tween stage, it is also important to empower your kids and help them to realize their worth. School isn't the only thing that children are meant to try to be good at and enjoy, so the more you support your child's hobbies and interests, the easier it will be to help them also make more of an effort with school in the same way.
  4. "It's not a big deal, just get over it." Assuming you don't know anything more about time machines than the rest of us, you went through this delicate time yourself. Whether the things that meant most during that time - like getting invited to a sleepover - matter to you now is irrelevant. Those things mattered to you back then, and matter to your tween now. Don't make them feel like their personal struggles aren't valid.
  5. "No one will want to be friends with you if you do that." At this phase of their lives, having friends and being well-liked is one of the most important things to get right. When you use your child's behaviors against them, don't expect your shaming to result in good or changed behavior - it will probably result in tears, anger, or anxiety on their part.
  6. "You shouldn't eat that if you want to get asked to the dance." Anything along the lines of how they eat or how they dress in relation to popularity or dating is going to directly impact their self esteem during these years (when body image issues really start to manifest themselves). We want our children to be proud of their bodies, but media influences and friends will likely cause your tween to judge themselves - these are touchy subjects that should be approached with tenderness.
  7. "If he/she your boyfriend/girlfriend?" Sure, you may say it with silly curiosity - and maybe a playful nudge of the elbow - when your child mentions a classmate, but at this age, assuming that just because your child is talking about someone means that they want to date them can be a bit awkward. A tween figuring out what they want is difficult enough without you getting curious every time they mention a friend's name. If you want them to talk to you about this stuff, don't put pressure on them - they'll likely come to you in the end.
  8. "I'm not talking about this right now." This is like parent code for "I don't want to deal with rejecting your request right now." Rather than saying a variation of this and dismissing your tween when they're trying to talk to you, give them a reason as to why you can't discuss something with them at present. Letting them know that you will address whatever it is they want to talk about later will let them know that what they want to talk about matters to you.
  9. "Because I said so." Think back to your mother saying this to you - it was the most frustrating response no matter what was being discussed. Saying this can make your tween feel like they have absolutely no authority to make a decision for themselves. Providing your child with a reasoning for why you "say so" doesn't diminish the authority you have as the parent, it just gives your child a bit of insight into what you're thinking and how you made your decision.

You're About to Be Blown Away by This Dad's Ikea Hack

To lure his son out of his outgrown convertible toddler bed and into a big-kid bed, Eric Strong went to work in creating the "most awesome bed ever." But rather than spending loads on one, he pulled the ultimate Ikea hack by repurposing just three furniture pieces: Kura bed, Trofast toy storage, and Besta shelf.

Eric incorporated his son's interests - playgrounds, hiding, simple machines, and the Berenstain Bears - into the bed design, which features a hidden clubhouse, swinging bookshelf opened by a secret book lever, secret window, pulley and crane, and more.

Realizing he needed more supplies, Eric purchased a second Kura bed and used most of its components to build out the structure. The Trofast was utilized as a support base for the bed slide, while the Besta served its original purpose and then some. Not only did Eric completely think out the bones of the play bed, but he also nailed down the smaller details. The hidden clubhouse is decked out in color-changing LED lights, a ball run courses through and unloads itself, and a backup escape hatch was even built in case the swinging bookshelf proved faulty.

We didn't get to see the little boy's reaction but he probably agrees that he got the "most awesome bed ever." Watch the video above to see how his dad made it happen.

If You Obsessively Quit Your iPhone Apps, You Need to Read This

Brace yourselves - one of the most common tips for saving battery life on your iPhone is actually a myth. According to 9to5 Mac, an Apple fan emailed CEO Tim Cook, asking, "Do you quit your iOS multitasking apps frequently and is this necessary for battery life?" Apple iOS chief Craig Federighi replied with a very clear answer: "No and No."

Here's one explanation for why force quitting your iOS apps is actually worse for your battery life:

"The very process of quitting an app will use up a measurable amount of battery life. There are times when the device may need those resources and it will quit the app on your behalf, which will drain the battery in the same fashion. However, modern smartphones have an abundance of memory and you would be surprised how often an app can just stay suspended forever. This is doubly true for any app that you are frequently launching and using, these apps in all likelihood will never need to be closed and the repetitive exiting and relaunching can have a very noticeable toll on your battery life."

While it appears to be case closed, some people have pointed out that the Facebook app does drain battery life, so maybe there are exceptions to the rule. What do you think? Are you sufficiently convinced?

The Future of Wellness Is Here - and It's a Fit Tracker For Your Dog

These days, so much emphasis is being placed on health, and with good reason. So many people are focusing on eating clean and exercising regularly, and the influx of fitness trackers on the market doesn't stop at just those for humans. Because being healthy should include your pets, fitness trackers made especially for dogs are on the rise. According to Dr. Louise Murray, veterinarian with Wellness TruFood, "Pets can't talk to us, so it's often hard for pet parents to tell if their pet is healthy and feeling his best," which is where these devices come in. She points out that many of them track temperature and calories burned along with movement, which helps us learn so much more about our dogs.

While Dr. Murray hasn't had a chance to try any of the fit trackers on the market yet, she still thinks they have great benefits because they help combat pet obesity. "Many people think letting their dog out a few times a day counts as exercise, but trackers can help paint a more accurate picture," she said. These devices also strengthen the bond between you and your pup because not only are you monitoring his activity on your phone often, but chances are you'll be taking him out to play more often, too.

All in all, Dr. Murray recommends all dogs get at least 30 minutes of good activity every day, though the type of activity can vary from breed to breed. She warns, though, not to get too hung up on what the activity tracker is telling you. Every dog is different, which means every activity goal will be different. Always check with your vet with any questions or concerns. But in the meantime, we tested three of the activity trackers for dogs currently on the market to give you a little more insight into what each of them is like. Scroll through to hear from our dog owners who tested them and get more details on buying them.

Adele Stands in Solidarity With the Victims of the Brussels Terrorist Attacks During Her London Concert

After the utter devastation of the multiple terrorist attacks in Brussels on Tuesday, Adele made sure the victims of the explosions knew they had her support during an emotional moment at her London concert later that evening. She dedicated her song, "Make You Feel My Love," to anyone who had been affected, and asked her audience to sing along with her. "I don't think I've ever actually been so moved in my life at one of my shows, that was just so beautiful," she said after she finished singing. "Thank you very much for doing that. I think they heard us."

The "When We Were Young" singer has been tugging on quite a few heartstrings as of late, giving an extremely sick fan the surprise of a lifetime, and also inviting a young girl with autism to come sing on stage with her at a recent show. Watch her message of strength above, and then check out this incredible mashup of Adele's biggest hits.

6 Home Maintenance Projects You Should Do This Spring

This time of year, the term "spring cleaning" is on the tip of everyone's tongue. While cleaning out your closet and switching up your bedding are great ways to cleanse and prep your home for the season ahead, we decided to take a more macrolevel look at the Spring maintenance homeowners should be doing. For some professional insight, we spoke to Angie's List founder Angie Hicks. People come to her website to find and schedule local, reliable service providers for their home. Here are the six areas Angie says you should deep-clean in the Spring:

Window Washing

Pollen, dirt, and grime build up on your windows throughout the year, making them look icky and block sunlight. In fact, you'll be shocked when you see how much brighter your home is when you're done. It's recommended to clean your windows twice a year, and Angie's says Spring is the perfect time to roll up your sleeves and get to squeegeeing.

Carpet Cleaning

Regularly deep cleaning your carpet is a habit worth getting into, and Spring is the perfect time to start. If the floor of your home is covered in carpet, it might be worth hiring a reliable professional from a site like Angie's List. For smaller areas, you can save money by renting a carpet-cleaning machine from a local home and garden store.

Paint Refresh

Peeling paint is not only an eyesore, but is also bad for your home since paint provides a protective barrier to the surface of your house. Without it, you open your home up to water, mold, mildew, and pests. The Spring is the perfect time to touch up your home's exterior for both its longterm health and attractiveness. "Sometimes that doesn't get viewed as cleaning but oftentimes that is on the list as just a little pick-me-up," Angie explains.

Gutter Cleaning

Angie says water is a homeowner's worst enemy and warns that clogged gutters lead to basement water. She recommends doing a gutter clean heading into the Spring rain season. "While it seems like a perfect DIY project, it's the one that we hear most often as causing accidents around the home," she warns, citing falls from ladders as the most common among them.

Front Entrance TLC

Angie reminds homeowners to keep up the curb appeal of their home. This is the time of year she says they should take a hard look at their front door - which they often forget to do if they're always entering through the garage or backdoor. Look at the entrance as a guest would, and wipe away any unwelcoming cobwebs or clutter and even give the front door a fresh coat of paint.

Weather Stripping

Fall and Spring are the perfect time to think about energy efficiency. "You want to make sure that you don't have drafty windows and that the weather-stripping is in good shape around doors and things like that," says Angie. "We think about that a lot more during the Winter because our heating bills are going up, but in the Summer it's your air conditioning."

Check out some of her best snaps to see why she is reigning Queen of Instagram.

I'm a Fashion Blogger, and I Created a 3-Item Plan to Save My Sanity and My Wardrobe

The following post was originally featured on Yanira Garza and written by Yanira Garza, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Latina.

I know, everyone is in organization mode but this is something I've thought about for a while, but would like to implement this year. First things, first. I have taken out 100 items from my closet. Yes, you read that correctly. I have donated two boxes and one bag full of clothing and accessories. But the truth is, a few of these items were kept because of either sentimental value or because they were expensive (though I got a deal). I never wore them more than once or kept tossing them in the "maybe" pile; as in maybe one day I will wear them. Those 100 pieces were all "maybe" pieces.

As a stylist, I know better but sometimes you just cannot help yourself . . . I am human, too, you know. However, I have been pickier when I shop and at times have told my husband that I wasn't even in the mood to shop. Gasp! I don't know, maybe the tide is shifting and I need to love what I am wearing now to wear it. So, no more maybes. Here is the plan I'm sticking to after cleaning out my closet.

The Three Item Plan

At the beginning of every season, I will allow myself to purchase just three items. I am looking not to replace the 100 pieces I have tossed, but to invest in pieces that will get more wear. Do these have to be splurges? No. They could be a pair of $40 shoes as long as I wear them and wear them often. That is what I mean by quality. I have to see its worth in wearability. Being limited to only three items will be hard, but doable. There are only a few exceptions to the rule:

Undergarments: These need to be replaced often, so they will not be included in my three-item plan.

Beauty Products: Mascaras should be replaced every three months for hygienic reasons, and my skincare is non-negotiable. This applies to wardrobe pieces only.

Gifts: Anything that is gifted will not be included; however, if I get a gift card and use it to purchase an item, then it counts towards the three.

Brand Collaborations: Sometimes my job has a few nice perks. At times, I get offered these projects that involve gifted wardrobe items. This will not be included. However, I will be just as picky about these items, as I do not want to start creating another "maybe" pile.

Why the torture? Because I had 100 items in my closet that I barely wore. Will I save more money? Maybe or maybe not. I'm not limiting myself to an actual budget. If the item is worth the splurge and something I know I will wear regularly, then I will buy it. So maybe I will spend the same amount on 12 pieces that I did on that 100 or maybe not.

I will say this, this will be hard so I need a few of you to join me on this! Feel free to tag me on purchases using the hashtag #3ItemPlan. Who's in?

20 Burritos You'll Devour as Soon as They're Ready

There's something so satisfying about munching on a burrito. It could be the fact that it's a better version of a delicious sandwich that basically involves no mess - how wonderful is it that any and all overflow goes into the tinfoil surrounding the tortilla? - or maybe it's that its well-seasoned insides are usually cheesy and so incredibly filling. Either way, it doesn't matter. Whatever it is, it keeps us coming back for more.

And because we can't get enough of burritos (California, Tex-Mex, traditional - we love them all), we've rounded up 20 recipes that'll keep our addiction going strong. Keep scrolling to find those irresistible options.

Why Millennials Actually Stand a Chance at Homeownership

A new analysis conducted by NerdWallet has found that millennials are in a better place to purchase a home than they realize. Millennials started to come of age during the housing crisis and Great Recession, and they've been conditioned to believe that their generation is postponing homeownership because they cannot afford it - but the analysis found that the median age for first-time home buyers is virtually the same as it has been for the past 40 years, rising only infinitesimally from 30.6 years old to 31 years old. If millennials as a whole are not buying in great numbers, it could be attributed to the fact that most have not reached that home-buying age yet; in fact, nearly a quarter are still under 22 years old!

Furthermore, the study found that, contrary to popular opinion, millennials actually do want to buy homes - they're just postponing it because they assume they can't afford it. Millennials are shockingly unaware that there are many options for purchasing a home without a 20 percent down payment, and in reality, about 30 percent of all homebuyers put down three percent or less on the cost of the home.

Other major concerns causing millennials to delay homeownership included credit scores and debt-to-income ratios. While credit scores remain strict post- housing crisis, they're starting to ease, and debt-to-income ratios are actually at healthy levels. Most 25–34-year-olds are making enough money to comfortably cover the cost of the median mortgage. Even those with student loan debt may be able to refinance their loans at a better rate or qualify for income-based repayment.

"Millennials - and first-time homebuyers in general - should never just assume they can't afford a home," says Chris Ling, study coauthor. "The first step to owning a home is knowing how you can finance it, so you should always research your options." Bottom line: the barrier to homeownership is much lower than most millennials perceive it to be.

These Are the 3 Key Fitness Trends For You and Your Dog This Year

We've been noticing lately that people are treating their pets like humans more and more - even going as far as having a wedding for their dogs. It got us wondering what might be on the horizon in trendiness for our dogs, so we asked Dr. Louise Murray, veterinarian with Wellness TruFood, what she thinks will be the big things in 2016.

"People are starting to become more actively involved in their pet's health, and more of what we see in human health is beginning to trickle into the pet world," she said. Health and wellness are what everyone is really thinking about, and that includes involving our dogs, she continued. Here are the three key wellness trends to look out for.

  1. Fitness: According to Dr. Murray, people are starting to include their dogs in their everyday lives more than before, which includes their fitness routines. She has seen more and more dog-friendly fitness classes crop up and expects it to grow even more. "While this may be a fad and may not be for every dog depending on their sociability, any activities with your pet that reinforce bonding and promote exercise can be positive," she said.
  2. Wearables: "It can be hard to tell when your pet is healthy," Dr. Murray said. But thanks to wearable wellness trackers, it is easier to find out what's going on with our dogs. These trackers can look at everything from heart rate and temperature to calories burned in a day. Some of them even have GPS included so if your dog gets out, it's easier to track him down.
  3. Alternative foods: Natural diets have become the norm for humans, so it makes sense that our animals' diets would follow suit. "We're starting to see more interest in foods that are more akin to homemade human recipes, like Wellness TruFood, a new line of foods for cats and dogs made with fresh produce and high-quality meats that are slowly baked to seal in nutrients," Dr. Murray said.

How to Be the Best Dressed Woman at the Dubai World Cup

She'll be judging the Jaguar Style Stakes competition for the fourth year in a row, plus Kourtney and Kim Kardashian have worn blazers from her Lady Fozaza clothing line - so who better to go to for Dubai World Cup style advice?

Stylist and fashion consultant, AlAnoud Bdar - of Lebanese and Saudi heritage - is revealing all about how to stand out from the crowds when attending the richest horse race in the world. read on for top tips from the expert.

1. What will you be looking for in a Jaguar Style Stakes Best Dressed Woman?

This year, I would love to see a more unique and personal approach when dressing for the Dubai World Cup. Being part of the Jaguar Style Stakes judging panel now for the fourth time, I have seen a lot of catalogue and safe-looking outfits which can become a bit boring. But nothing screams style like staying true to yourself and giving your outfit a mirror personality of yourself.

2. What's the most important part of a woman's DWC ensemble, the dress, the hat or something else?

It is definitely a nice balance between all of these items! Pick one of them to stand out and allow everything else to compliment it, otherwise it may turn into one hot mess. If you want to go crazy with the hat allow the outfit to take a back seat so the hat can shine and you'll find it all coming together nicely.

3. And for those attending with a man, how can they make sure their partner is equally as stylish?

For couples it would be perfect to have one element combining both male and female outfits. This can either be a little pop of color in both looks or a print or type of fabric.

4. How do you go about selecting your own DWC outfit?

First of all I consider the season to choose the perfect material for the weather. After that, current color trends are also important, however only if they suit me. Lastly, I always choose the style according to what fits my body type. Keeping this in mind, it guarantees that I feel comfortable and confident on the day of the event.

5. The likes of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian have worn your designs, as well as local star Nancy Arjam and Victoria's Secret model Karolina Kurkova. Why do you think celebrities are a fan of your blazers?

Blazers are the forgotten accessories in fashion and one that has become as important as the classic Jeans and T-shirt combo. Blazers can transform your whole outfit in seconds, allowing you to dress it up or down. It also compliments all body shapes depending on the cut of the blazer.

6. What are your general tips for any first-timers attending the DWC this year?

Don't spend too much time thinking about your look - have fun with it! That's usually when you come up with the best outfits. If you are going to register for the Jaguar Style Stakes competitions, make sure you have checked the guidelines in advance. No cleavage, nothing above the knee, no off the shoulders, otherwise you would be disqualified and it would be a shame if your outfit is on point!

6 Foolproof Tips For Conquering Pet Hair This Spring

Spring is here! Time to break out the sundresses and pack away the sweaters - for you AND your dog. And by sweaters, we mean pet hair. Lots of it. Most dogs are double-coated and shed their undercoat a couple of times a year. In the Fall, it grows in thicker for warmth. In the Spring, it's time to shed it for something breezier. And where does all that Winter fur go? On your floor, of course. And your couch. And your clothes. And . . . pretty much everywhere.

Whether or not you suffer from allergies, you need some foolproof ways to get rid of the hair without getting rid of your dog. So just in time for Spring, we've rounded up our favorite, tried-and-true methods for total pet hair domination.

1. Invest in a Great Vacuum

First things first: get the right tool for the job. If you have a dog, you'll want to get a vacuum designed to tackle plenty of pet fur. The right vacuum is powerful enough to annihilate the hair, while also agile enough to get into nooks and crannies: under the couch cushions, behind the bed, and beyond. You'll want to vacuum at least once a week, and more during peak shedding season. Put on some loud music and go for it. We hear it's a good workout. Bonus.

When it comes to vacuums for pet fur, there are many good options at a range of price points. Check out a roundup for five of our favorite choices.

2. Brush, Brush, Brush

Regular brushing is key. Depending on your dog's coat, different brushes work best. Breeds with thicker, fuller coats, like Golden Retrievers and Huskies, require a slicker brush. Shorter coats can start with a bristle brush. Either way, regular brushing will help keep shedding at bay. Plus, it's a nice bonding moment for you and your pooch.

Pro tip: take advantage of the warmer weather and brush your pet outside. This helps reduce pet dander for allergy sufferers and makes cleanup a whole lot easier.

3. Amp Up Your Grooming Routine

Sure, brushing is a great place to start. But sometimes you need to get serious. You probably don't want to shave your dog (not all over, anyway), so what else can you do? We've discovered a bunch of awesome fur-removal products that take your average brushing session to the next level. The best tools work by getting at that undercoat, which is the main source of all the shedding.

For instance, the compact, powerful, and easy-to-use FURminator is a perennial top performer. This secret weapon gets a gold star in pet fur destruction, without destroying your dog.

4. It's Bathtime

Many Americans suffer from allergies to pet dander, which can get worse during Spring shedding season. If you're plagued by sneezing, itching, and watery eyes, regularly bathing your dog will help. In fact, frequent bathing can reduce pet dander by up to 84 percent! There are even dander-reducing shampoos that will reduce irritation, hydrate your dog's skin, and result in a soft, shiny coat. After-bath snuggles . . . mmm.

5. Beyond the Vacuum

Sometimes, a broom works better than a vacuum, especially on tile and wood. The FURemover broom, from the same family as the FURminator, might be magic. Designed especially to pick up pet fur, it's amazing at sweeping big fluffy piles into manageable mounds that you can put straight into the trash. For smaller jobs, try pet hair removal mitts, which are pretty darn affordable.

And for the ultimate in simplicity? You can't beat standard-issue rubber gloves. Dampen, swipe over the fur, and voila. The Internet is crazy about this cleaning hack.

6. Cleaning On the Go

Vacuuming, bathing, grooming: these will help prevent excess shedding. But sometimes you need to get rid of fur fast. Say, you're about to walk into a big meeting and you realize that you've got your dog's white fur all over your black pants. Never fear. That's where the classic lint roller comes into play. Most are sized for convenient transport, so you can keep one in your desk, your glove compartment, and your bag. (You can't have too many, really.) There are a range of choices, including some designed especially for pet hair removal. Just don't roll it on your dog . . .

It's hard to tell who's more excited about Spring: you or your dog. It's time to enjoy longer walks, romps at the dog park, and naps in that sunny spot on the living room floor. You know, that one. There's no better season for enjoying the perks of the pet parent life. Fur and all!

The Easy, Invisible Trick For Feeling More Confident in Your Clothes

The obsession started with a set of three lacy bralettes - one red, one cream, and my favorite, a deep navy blue. They were from American Apparel, purchased for $20 each on a whim during my first year of college. I think I was just looking for something to buy (the popular retailer was located around the corner from my dorm), and after enrolling in our freshman courses, New York invited us to do little else but shop.

The lingerie would fit seamlessly into my well-curated, slightly smaller wardrobe - the one that allowed me to redefine myself in a new city and help me feel sexy and independent - even if I was the only one who knew about it.

Throughout high school, I'd always loved the classic Hanky Panky low-rise thongs. In fact, I had collected just about every color, but I didn't care about matching my bottoms and tops or accruing sets. But enter the college years, and suddenly, every time I slipped into my new bras, I found myself wanting to complete the look.

Since I don't have large breasts, the unstructured design of the American Apparel pieces didn't bother me. Instead, I appreciated their delicacy. I made the firm decision not to throw my prized possessions in the temperamental washers and dryers that lined the back wall in the basement. I folded them neatly in the plastic drawers beneath my bed and rotated between each color, sighing every morning as I rummaged through my underwear drawer, searching for material that matched in hue.
