5 Steps to Start Meditation, For Beginners
Everyone's talking about the benefits of meditation, but it can seem super intimidating if you've never tried it - or if you're going it alone! We talked to a certified meditation coach, Lynne Goldberg, to get her best tips for beginner meditators; we're definitely going to be putting these into practice ASAP.
Related: Benefits of Transcendental Meditation
Start With 10 Minutes
Seriously, though, it only takes 10 minutes. In some cases, Lynn mentioned, that's less time than you'd be waiting in line for a cappuccino, "so no excuses!"
Lynne's tip for beginners: "Try to get into it first thing in the morning, before your day gets away from you." You can use a meditation app, including OMG. I Can Meditate!, which features an alarm that wakes you up with a meditation.
Always Set an Intention
"Remember why it is that you want to learn to meditate in the first place," said Lynne. Do you want to relieve stress? Strengthen your relationships? Improve your health or your focus? One of the most important factors of your practice is your motivation, also called your intention. "This can be helpful when willpower isn't enough."
Don't Stress About Your Thoughts
"You will have thoughts, and that's OK!" said Lynne. Going into meditation with the expectations that you can suddenly control ALL your thoughts and completely empty your mind is unrealistic; as Lynne puts it, "that's not the goal." So what do you do with your thoughts? "We are just trying to notice them."
Keep Expectations Realistic
On that same note, don't expect to achieve enlightenment upon your first meditation session. "You wouldn't expect to run a marathon the first time you put on your running shoes, so don't expect to sit like a pretzel for hours at a time during your first meditation practice," said Lynne.
Just like building a muscle in an exercise, you're building your "attention muscle" with meditation, and that can take time. The key is to not psych yourself out, and to simply practice. Lynne reminds you to be easy on yourself and remember that each time your mind wanders and you come back to center: THAT is meditation!
Be Consistent
You know that old adage, "practice makes perfect?" While you're not striving for "perfection" in this case, it's essentially true for meditation. Lynne says that "meditation is something you should practice every day," noting that it's better to "practice for 10 minutes a day [daily], than once a week for an hour." Keep things short, but frequent and consistent; the more you do it, the better you'll feel.
This Is the Diet a New Study Suggests Might Stop Breast Cancer From Returning
Mediterranean diets have long been lauded for their balanced nutrients and even weight-loss benefits. A new study suggests another encouraging attribute of the diet: preventing breast cancer from returning. After three years of research, a group of doctors in Italy discovered that women with breast cancer who ate a Mediterranean diet did not see their cancer return.
The study tracked 307 women who were treated for breast cancer and separated the patients into two groups: 199 women who ate Mediterranean diets and 108 women who were asked to follow their typical diet. Those assigned the Mediterranean diet were given a meal plan rich in fruits and vegetables:
- Four portions of vegetables a day
- Three pieces of fruit a day
- One serving of grain a day
- Four servings of fish a week
- Two servings of red or processed meat a week
- Permitted one alcoholic drink a day
Surprisingly, none of the 199 women who ate the prescribed diet saw their breast cancer return, while 11 of the women who kept their normal diet suffered a relapse. When this particular study was presented to the American Society of Clinical Oncology, doctors were encouraged but also wary of its potential shortcomings.
Experts in breast cancer shared with the Guardian their hesitation to give too much validation to this study before more research is done. One of the issues experts pointed to was the short time in which patients were evaluated - in order for the results to be corroborated more accurately, the women should be monitored for longer than three years. Additionally, experts emphasized that current research identifies physical activity as the main factor in preventing breast cancer's return. While the claim that a Mediterranean diet is just as beneficial for women in remission requires more research and substantiation, it is certainly a positive discovery.

The Hints That Reveal Margaery's True Intentions on Game of Thrones
The past couple episodes of of Game of Thrones have yielded quite a bit of action. We got reacquainted with one Benjen Stark, we caught a glimpse of the Mad King Aerys, and we even met the sassiest character to date. And yet, in one of the more confusing moments, Margaery Tyrell suddenly seems to come to terms with her imprisonment, going so far as to "atone" for her supposed sins. We're not quite convinced by the new and improved Tyrell, and this week, we grew even more suspicious. In fact, we're starting to think Margaery has a sinister something up her sleeve.
3 Reasons the Next Season of Orange Is the New Black Might Be Piper's Last
Though Piper Chapman - portrayed by Taylor Schilling - serves as our initial access point to Orange Is the New Black's Litchfield Penitentiary and the many inmates who inhabit it, her personal storyline has taken a back seat to some of the other, more compelling characters. After three seasons that have gradually shifted the focus away from Piper and onto other inmates - like Suzanne, Nicky, Daya, and Cindy - we've begun to wonder about Piper's role as our Litchfield liaison and the declining utility of that.
When POPSUGAR Beauty spoke with Schilling, she seemed to confirm some of our suspicions that Piper might slowly be phased out . . . or killed off. Below is a telling excerpt from that interview.
POPSUGAR: You can stop me if I'm looking too deeply into this, but I've been thinking a lot about the evolution of Piper's hair. In flashbacks preprison, she's shown with really long locks, then when she arrives at the prison she wears her shoulder-length hair down usually, and then in the previews for this season it's frequently pulled back. I wonder if there's some sort of symbolic meaning behind that gradual change.
Taylor Schilling: Oh, yeah. I don't think that's reading into anything. That's so spot on. Piper's outsides are becoming less and less important. She's kind of moving further and further away from the idea of what she thought she was. She's becoming more practical. She's becoming a creature of the prison, and there's no space for excess. Her only need is for survival, and brushing her hair doesn't really factor into the equation.
PS: In the last season we do see her spiral into becoming a total gangster with her whole underwear operation. For this next season, I'm honestly a little concerned for Piper. It doesn't look too good for her from what I've seen.
TS: Yeah, this is a tough year for Piper.
PS: In one of the photos for the upcoming season, it seems as though she's about to get her hand smashed?
TS: No - you'll see.
PS: Does she make it out OK?
TS: I don't know . . . I don't know.
Though we fully realize that she could just be Jon Snow-ing us, we have some details to back up this theory.
Archie Comics' TV Adaptation Is About to Become Your New Favorite Teen Drama
There may be plenty of new shows on the horizon, but one of the most anticipated has to be The CW's Riverdale. Even though the network has kept pretty mum on the official details (it hasn't even released the trailer yet!), we do have a handful of things to be excited about, including Cole Sprouse's return to TV. If you've recently found yourself scratching your head, wondering what it's all about, we've got you covered. Here's the rundown on what you can expect from the upcoming show.
The Complicated, Interconnected History of The Bachelor Franchise
The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises may have started out as random singles just looking for love the old-fashioned way, but after 20 seasons, it's become a much more complicated web of interconnectedness. For a time, certain bachelors were chosen out of the blue for their appeal, but the franchise producers soon discovered that they could get a built-in audience by casting runners-up and fan favorites from previous seasons. But after this many years, it's easy to forget who was almost chosen by who, so we're breaking down which bachelors and bachelorettes landed their position of rose-giving by being an ousted contestant first. Starting from the very first bachelor, Alex, to the current bachelorette, JoJo, here's how each season has ultimately led to the next.
Game of Thrones: The Hound's Return Could Mean "Cleganebowl" Is About to Go Down
SPOILERS for season six of Game of Thrones below!
Game of Thrones's seventh episode starts with not one, but two shocks. First, we're treated to a cold open, something the show has hardly ever done before. In it, we see a group of men, women, and children working together to construct a church under the keen, kind eyes of a peace-loving priest named Brother Ray (Ian McShane, in a pitch-perfect cameo) in the Riverlands. The camera eventually lands on a man carrying a log, which delivers us shock number two: it's the Hound.
The brutal warrior, neé Sandor Clegane, has been missing from our screens ever since Arya left him for dead in season four following his battle with Brienne, but it appears one cannot simply bite off a Clegane's ear and toss them over a cliff to kill them. It's explained that the Hound was found and nursed back to health by Ray, a pacifist who openly acknowledges his past as a bloodthirsty soldier, and whose influence seems to have greatly, and positively, affected Sandor. Sadly, the Brotherhood Without Banners arrives by the end of the episode and savagely murders Ray and the rest of the congregation while the Hound is off chopping wood, putting him squarely back on a path of violence. While Sandor's reappearance could mean a multitude of things, it strongly suggests that the popular fan theory of "Cleganebowl" is about to come to pass.
Before diving into the theory, it's important to recall the Hound's abusive relationship with his monstrous older brother, Gregor Clegane (aka the Mountain). In the first season, he tells Sansa that the reason behind his disfigured face is thanks to Gregor holding his cheek against burning coals when he was just a boy, leaving him with a debilitating fear of fire and massive facial scarring. Given Gregor's predilection for rape and murder, it's probably not even the worst crime on his list, but it's still horrifying. The last time the two brothers tussled was also during season one, when they faced off in the tournament held for Ned Stark (which was interrupted by Robert Baratheon). Now that the Hound has returned, it seems a rematch between him and his brother is in order.
This suspected violent reunion between the Clegane brothers has come to be known as "Cleganebowl," a long-held fan theory that asserts Cersei will opt for a trial by combat - choosing the now-undead Mountain as her representative in battle since Jaime is away trying to take back Riverrun from the Blackfish - while the High Sparrow will recruit the Hound to represent the Faith. Although the Mountain is now stronger than ever in his zombie-like state, the rage coursing through Sandor might be just enough to overtake him. If that happens, Cersei will find herself in grave danger since losing would mean the Gods found her guilty. With the season finale drawing ever closer, it'll be interesting to see if showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will give the fans what they've been clamoring for or go in a different direction entirely.

Solve the Brain-Teaser That Is Driving People on Facebook Insane
Hmm... Can you solve this? I honestly have NO clue! I hope you guys can tell me ☆ SHARE and see if your friends Can! ☆FOLLOW ME! ☺☺☺
Posted by Lisa Woelke on Friday, January 29, 2016
Facebook user Lisa Woelke recently shared a brain-teaser that has been driving the Internet nuts. The post - which has been shared by more than 170,000 users - depicts a math equation with fruit items in lieu of numbers. For example, it can be deduced from the first line that one apple is equivalent to the number 10. Harmless enough, right? Wrong.
The most common answer for the remaining final line was 16 - and you shouldn't be discouraged if that's the answer you arrived at . . . it just isn't the correct one. The final answer is actually 14. You might be asking yourself, "What the what?" as you ponder the degeneration of your math skills, but it's OK. We can work through this together.
So yes, one apple equals 10, one banana bunch equals four, and the coconuts equal two. However, the final line alters the coconuts and bananas so that they are each missing one, respectively. In the case of the last line, there is only one coconut - equaling one - and three bananas in the bunch, which equal three. So one apple (10) plus one coconut (one) and three bananas (three) equal 14. Voilà!

Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber are the undisputed mother-daughter duo of the fashion world, and they just landed another cover to prove it. Following their prestigious Vogue magazine cover shoot, the duo (who can easily pass as sisters) appear together in a series of shots for bi-annual collectors publication, Chrome Hearts magazine.

She also poses with Kaia in coordinating textured vests for a sweet profile shot that spotlight their uncanny resemblance.

Maroon 5 Played at This Billionaire's Nuptials, but It's the Wedding Dress That Will Really Blow Your Mind
You've probably never heard of billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, but after a glimpse at his son's wedding, you won't soon forget this family or this stunning bride. Sargis Karapetyan married 25-year-old beauty Salome Kintsurashvili in one of the most lavish weddings we've ever seen (and we've seen a lot of weddings). For starters, they enlisted Maroon 5 to serenade their guests for an estimated $500,000-$800,000. But when money's no object, that's just the beginning.
The more-than-million-dollar nuptials featured flower walls that put Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's to shame, towering centerpieces, and a ceiling-high cake covered in breathtaking florals that might have upstaged the bride herself - but not with wedding dresses like these. Salome selected three gowns, a glittering Elie Saab, a lacy Alessandra Rich creation, and a more traditional gown, each one fit for royalty. Speaking of which, she topped her look with a diamond Tiffany & Co. tiara (reportedly the same one worn by Carey Mulligan on the set of The Great Gatsby). If that's not a wedding fit for a princess, I don't know what is. Read on to take in the stunning decor, the rock-star band, and the mesmerizing gowns.

Victoria Beckham Just Wore the 1 Sweatshirt Anna Wintour Likely Approves Of
A few months ago, Anna Wintour rejected the opportunity to rock her first-ever hoodie, but perhaps she'd be down for a crew neck - especially if said crew neck had "Vogue" written on it and was already endorsed by another major fashion gal, Victoria Beckham. The designer wore the gray college-like layer, complete with fun block letters, on the beach, pairing it with cutoff shorts and (gasp!) a pair of black flip-flops.
We've gotta admit, it is pretty cute, and we love that VB's opting for cozier pieces: she recently wore a pair of Uggs and was spotted on the same trip in joggers, a trucker hat, and some kicks.
So, what do ya say, Anna? Are you ready to embrace the chic sweatshirt? Read on to get a better look at Victoria's comfy picks, then wait for the Vogue editor in chief to make her move.
Kate Moss's Little Sis Definitely Didn't Show Up to Prom in Your Average Fit-and-Flare
When you're a model - and the sister of an icon - you can't just show up to prom in any ol' fit-and-flare. This is your opportunity to show off what you do best, so Lottie Moss, sister of Kate, opted to do just that. The It girl in the making attended her own "Leavers Ball" in an off-the-shoulder white gown that was simple, elegant, and elevated - aka, something that wouldn't be so out of place on a runway or red carpet.
Needless to say, Lottie likely won't back on her choice and cringe, since this design will always be considered a classic. Scroll through to see another photo of the star at the event, then reflect back on the time she posed for Vogue with Kylie Jenner and Bella Hadid.

The 1 Thing Queen Rania Looks For in a Fancy Dress
While Queen Rania of Jordan rarely goes without a designer accessory or two, it's her ornate statement gowns that really do the talking. Many of Rania's looks feature embroidery, prints, or embellishments that complement the shape of her jewels and pull her look together. When she stepped out with her family for the Great Arab Revolt Centennial celebration, her outfit followed suit. But it was the deep teal shade of her chiffon piece that turned the spotlight her way.
Clearly she's onto something - at the end of May she chose a romantic cranberry number for Independence Day. So, if we can learn anything from Queen Rania's ways, perhaps it's not that we need just one power color, but plenty. And before we put them on display, we should make sure they complement our skin tone and lend us some glow. But most importantly, that they're unique and luxe. Read on to let the queen show you how it's done.

Pippa Middleton's Bridesmaid Dress Just Went on Sale - and Now We're Tempted to Buy It
While Kate Middleton claims the style spotlight on a regular day, for her own wedding, she shared it with her younger sister, Pippa Middleton. The royal's sibling turned heads when she held Kate's train, wearing a stunning Alexander McQueen sheath that highlighted all her curves - especially her toned backside. And now, a dress very similar to Pippa's is on sale, discounted by over $1,000. At the very least, we're tempted.
However, there are a few differences between Pippa's iconic number and the one that now rings in at $1,539 instead of the original $2,565. For starters, there are no famous buttons down the back, which drew more attention to the brunette beauty's assets. There's also no lace, and the cowl neck has been replaced by lapels. But still, it's a breathtaking piece, and the future wearer will no doubt be hearing compliments throughout the night.
Reflect back on Pippa's dress, then shop the similar piece if you're so inclined. The real bonus here? It definitely doesn't have to be a bridesmaid dress. Considering the white color, it would even look great on the bride!
The Real-Life Full House House Is For Sale - and It's Gorgeous Inside
The iconic San Francisco Victorian that serves as the Tanner family home in the beloved series Full House and its recent reboot Fuller House can now be yours. The real-life house, whose exterior is seen in the opening credits of the shows, was just put on the market for a cool $4.15 million (which is right around where we estimated its worth at earlier this year). The home was built in 1883, making it among the oldest in the Lower Pacific Heights neighborhood where it resides, and is a stunning example of Italianate-style Victorian architecture.
The home boasts three bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, and almost 3,000 square feet of sophisticated living space. In addition, there's an office, an eat-in kitchen, and oodles of beautiful period details, including three marble fireplaces, soaring ceilings, and stunning molding throughout. Interior designer Courtnay Daniels Haden previously owned the home, so as you can imagine, the interiors, which juxtapose modern decor with the home's traditional bones, are nothing short of breathtaking. Then there's the luxurious outdoor space, which includes a patio perfect for outdoor dining and a classically designed garden that looks straight out of a European manor.
In addition to deep pockets, the new owners will also need to have a high tolerance for spectators. The house has long been a tourist destination, and on any given day throngs of Full House fans can be seen snapping pictures in front.

Ban on doctor-assisted suicide ends after today — but confusion continues
Parliament won't meet its deadline for new legislation on assisted dying today, meaning the Supreme Court's 2015 ruling striking down the ban on doctor-assisted suicide will be the law of the land. But even medical professionals disagree over what that means.

Have You Ever Seen a Pit Bull on Tiptoes? Well, Now You Have
Some of us may think of Pit Bulls as those really brave and brawny pups that are scared of nothing. That is not the case with Redd, a foster dog in Massachusetts. This rescue from Pound Hound is 70 pounds of big baby, if this video is anything to go by. His foster cat sister is behind the door where the box is sitting in the video, and Redd wants more than anything to get past there without disturbing her. We're pretty sure Redd is many times her size, but that doesn't seem to matter to him. Watch as he delicately tiptoes past the door, and then find even more cute animal videos here.
