Divorce Rates Are Actually Highest Right After Family Vacations
Despite the best intentions of a relaxing trip, it's no surprise that family vacations can be filled with a fair share of stress. From packing struggles to reservation issues, many parents come home feeling like they need a vacation from their vacation.
However, recent research from the University of Washington shows that family vacations aren't just leaving parents temporarily drained - they could also be the tipping point for divorces. The new study, conducted by associate sociology professor Julie Brines, saw a pattern of dissolving marriages linked to seasonal trips.
Divorce rates were consistently found to be the highest in March and August - despite other factors including unemployment rates and the housing market. Considering that it takes a few months to begin the divorce process and file with an attorney, researchers believe that these peak months are the delayed effects of the Winter holiday trips and Summer vacations.
"It was very robust from year to year and very robust across counties," lead researcher Professor Julie Brines told Medical News Today. It's important to note that this study doesn't cite vacations as the cause of marital separation but that they are linked.
These seasonal trips are often a time when couples hope to work on their relationships but they don't always live up to everyone's hopes. "People tend to face the holidays with rising expectations, despite what disappointments they might have had in years past," said Brines. "They represent periods in the year when there's the anticipation or the opportunity for a new beginning, a new start, something different, a transition into a new period of life. It's like an optimism cycle, in a sense. They're very symbolically charged moments in time for the culture."

The Soundtrack For Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's La La Land Is Already Making Us Emotional
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are pairing up yet again for a musical drama set in Hollywood, and it's already giving us all the feels. The trailers for La La Land feature scenes from the movie, but the most memorable part of each is the music. Gosling provides the soundtrack for one, while Stone shows off her pipes in the second. The movie isn't out until Dec. 2, but here's to hoping more of the music comes out before then. Here are both the songs, plus the one on Spotify. We'll update that playlist as soon as the second song is available!
Emma Stone Serenades With a Sweet Melody in the Dreamy Trailer For La La Land
After playing lovebirds in Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are falling in love yet again in Damien Chazelle's musical, La La Land. Following the release of a photo from the film in January, the teaser trailer is here, and it's beyond romantic. Although there is no dialogue in the clip, it does feature the song "Audition," performed by Stone in the film, as we meet her character Mia whose relationship with jazz musician Gosling goes through ups and downs as they struggle to succeed in Hollywood. It's dreamy and surreal and might give you a few Moulin Rouge flashbacks. Finn Wittrock, J.K. Simmons, Rosemarie DeWitt, and John Legend (yep) are all costarring in the film, which will hit theaters on Dec. 2.

Jessica Alba Reveals the 1 Hairspray You Need For Beach Waves (P.S. - She Made This)
If you've been searching for #hairinspo anytime over the last decade, you've likely saved at least one (or a dozen) images of actress-turned-entrepreneur, Jessica Alba. Be it a new cut, color, or style, the woman has a seriously enviable mane with the Google results to prove it. Lucky of us, she's been working hard to bottle up her iconic tousled texture into her first ever hair care line (coming October 2016), so you can achieve Alba-like results without a trip to the salon.
Quick backstory if you're not totally familiar with Jessica's brand, The Honest Company.
Let's backtrack: In 2011, the Hollywood leading lady joined, The Honest Company, a holistic brand of non-toxic skin care and household items. It quickly gained a cult following - especially with moms - so it September 2015, the range expanded to include cosmetics. The creamy highlighters and blushes help you to mock Jessica's angelic lit-from-within glow (which by the way, is no joke in real life). I'll let the $1.7 billion dollar valuation speak for itself when I say: she's developed some pretty popular beauty products over the last five years.
So, what inspired her to segue into hair care? "It was a natural extension for us," Jessica told me when I met her at a press event. "I felt like there really wasn't a brand or line that delivered clean, better-for-you ingredients, and the performance you want out of prestige hair care."
Since I got a sneak peek at the offering, I spent all Summer testing it out, and I can honestly say (pun intended) that I am impressed. The 11-product lineup ($18-$30) includes three targeted ranges: Beyond Hydrated for normal hair, Truly Restored for damaged hair, and Honestly, a collection of four styling products. The minimalist packaging featuring clean white, navy, and copper-toned bottles made the bottles worth of earning prime real estate in my shower and ob my vanity. And the results we're equally as pretty.
I couldn't believe how easily my hair styled after using the Moisture Milk Leave-in Conditioner and Sea Salt Spray. And by styled, I mean that I sprayed, brushed, and went about my morning routine. By the time I went to grab my blow dryer and get to work taming my typically unruly head of curls, I somehow achieved this cool-girl texture that I didn't want to touch.
Whether you're eco-obsessed or not, it's comforting to know the products you're putting on your head are made with good-for-you ingredients like coconut juice (for hydration), sunflower seed oil (for conditioning and shine), and Himalayan Pink Sea Salt (for texture). But sticking to an ingredient lineup that reads more like a grocery list, than a periodic table, comes with its challenges. "There are benchmarks that people have for performance and when we are working on formulations, we have to live up to that," she said. "Just because we're using more naturally derived ingredients, doesn't mean people will settle for subpar results."
Like any good entrepreneur, Alba looked to her closest friends for constructive feedback on the line. It just so happens that when you're Jessica Alba, those close friends are some of the most talented hairstylists in the world, like Jen Atkin and Jennifer Yepez. After testing the formulas on themselves and on clients, they were able to report back if textures needed revamping. "I would take their feedback to my chemists to discuss how we could tweak the formulas to achieve the desired result," Jessica noted.
The Honest Company hair care doesn't launch until October 2016 (available at Ulta, Ulta.com, and HonestBeauty.com) but we have a first look at the entire offering, so you can map out your wish list before it's time to stock up. We also got Jessica to reveal some of her favorite products and dish out savvy styling advice.
Laurie Hernandez, Best Friend Ever, Totally Saved Simone Biles From a Major Fashion Faux Pas
The lazy girl in us will do anything to avoid ironing, from throwing clothes in the dryer to skipping styles that wrinkle easily. But when you're an Olympian and flag bearer required to wear a uniform for the Closing Ceremony? You don't really have a choice - and that's exactly why Simone Biles, in particular, is lucky to have a pal and teammate like Laurie Hernandez. Simone shared a snap of Laurie before the big event, in which the 16-year-old can be seen bent over, smiling, and ironing her friend's clothes. Laurie's hard work definitely paid off in the end: both girls looked sharp and spectacular in their Polo Ralph Lauren ensembles, proving a little effort - and zero creases or wrinkles - can really go a long way!

This Is 1 Pregnant Woman's Tragic Experience With the Zika Virus
Satu is concerned that Americans aren't taking the Zika virus epidemic seriously enough. She didn't know anything about it until she lost her pregnancy because of it.
Over Thanksgiving weekend 2015, the Finnish woman living in Washington DC went on vacation to Latin America at 11 weeks pregnant. She didn't see the mosquito that bit her during her trip, nor did she think she would be infected with a mosquito-borne illness.
Satu, who has opted to use a different name in order to protect her privacy, hopes that sharing her story will prevent other parents-to-be from enduring a similar heartache. "There are people who are not aware of the risks related to Zika. If I had known then, I would have protected myself better," Satu told NBC News. "If even one person avoids getting infected with Zika while pregnant, that's good for me."
Satu returned from her tropical vacation just a few months before the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention first warned pregnant women about the debilitating birth defect, microcephaly, associated with Zika. She came down with a rash and was more lethargic than usual, and because she was pregnant, she quickly went to the doctor to ensure that everything was OK. Her doctor sent her home, stating that there was nothing to worry about.
Although Zika-related birth defects usually can't be detected until later in the second term and Satu was feeling better, she insisted on figuring out what had been going on. When she tested positive for the Zika virus, Satu's ultrasounds looked normal, so she tried to remain hopeful. But after a few weeks passed, she went in for an MRI, which clearly showed the damage to the unborn baby's brain.
"This particular MRI was so deficient in brain tissue that most people felt this child was extremely unlikely to make it through the pregnancy and unlikely to make it after delivery," one of Satu's doctors, Roberta DeBiasi, told NBC News. "These were not possible or slight findings. They were severe."
After learning the extent of the dire prognosis, Satu and her husband decided together to terminate the pregnancy at 21 weeks. "The child would never walk or talk and would need constant, 24/7 care through its life, which would be a short one," Satu said.
Satu became infected just weeks before world health officials understood the depth of birth defects caused by Zika and ended up donating her medical tests as well as her fetus to science in the hopes of helping doctors fully understand the depth of damage this virus could cause to unborn children. When doctors examined her fetus, they learned that the virus was in the brain, placenta, muscles, liver, lungs, and spleen.
Thanks in part to her case study, the World Health Organization and the CDC declared for the first time that Zika was in fact the cause of many horrific birth defects. Satu hopes her case will help other understand the extent of the risk. "It is very human to think it's just one mosquito or to say, right now I don't see any mosquitoes," Satu said. "It is very easy to say 'It won't happen to me.'"
See Exactly How Laurie Hernandez Celebrated the End of the 2016 Olympics
After earning gold at the Summer Olympics gymnastics team final and silver during the beam event, Laurie Hernandez, of course, celebrated her astounding athletic achievements at Rio 2016's exciting closing ceremony on Aug. 21.
The 16-year-old Puerto Rican-American, who is the Final Five's youngest member, ditched her signature leotard and top knot for the send off, instead opting for Team USA's custom (and adorably preppy) Ralph Lauren uniform and a half-up hairstyle that showed off her gorgeous curls. Luckily for us, Laurie and her teammate Aly Raisman documented all the fun on social media! Read on to relive Laurie's night, straight from Instagram. Then, admire her best competition moments during the Games.
Olympic Skater Sasha Cohen's Wedding Gown Is So Stunning, You'll Be Daydreaming About It All Day
When it came time for Sasha Cohen's wedding, the Olympic skater didn't walk down the aisle in any ol' gown. She went with an embellished lace dress that was equal parts dreamy and romantic - aka a design that looked like something straight out of a fairy tale. The floor-sweeping number had plenty of special details such as delicate beading and embroidered florals. And while the front was somewhat modest, with lace applique covering Sasha's chest, the back revealed a bit more and featured a plunging cut.
We've definitely seen our fair share of stunning lace gowns, but this pick was even more special because of how it hugged Sasha's 5'2" frame. It also perfectly complemented the bride's dreamy, waterside reception, which took place at the Wianno Club in Cape Cod. Ahead, see more snaps from Sasha and Tom's nuptials and be prepared to take notes - especially if you're a petite bride-to-be!
Ryan Lochte Returns Home With His Rumored New Girlfriend After Rio Drama
Following his whirlwind week, Ryan Lochte returned home to Charlotte, NC, with his rumored new girlfriend, Kayla Rae Reid, on Saturday. The Olympic swimmer kept his head down as he made his way inside his home and steered cleared of showing any PDA with the Playboy model. Ryan was in the news recently after claiming he and three other teammates were robbed at gunpoint during the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. While the Brazilian government denied any truth to his story, Ryan continued to defend it and even appeared on the Today Show earlier in the week, telling Matt Lauer, "The guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said 'get down.' I was like (puts hands up) I put my hands up. I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet."
Things then took a turn for the worse when video footage from the morning in question surfaced and proved that Ryan was, in fact, lying. On Thursday, the athlete issued an official statement, apologizing and blaming the incident on a language barrier.

Every Mom Who's Feared Public Breastfeeding Needs to Read This Woman's Words
"The fear is usually unfounded," wrote Shawnee Prether in a post to Facebook about overcoming her fear of breastfeeding in public. "All the scary stories on the Internet are so rare, I've nursed all my children for a combined total of over five years and I have never, ever had a single bad experience."
Though Prether's untarnished track record with breastfeeding in public may not be the case for everyone, her words of encouragement to all moms who fear some aspect of public nursing because of internet horror stories - as she once did herself - are important.
To the woman huddled in a bathroom stall because you're embarrassed to nurse in public, COME OUT!
To the woman who decides to use formula during the trip because you're afraid security will hassle you for carrying on milk or a pump, DON'T.
To the woman who passes on a night out to avoid people seeing that you do what's best for your baby, GO!
Prether finishes her positive post with one more directive to all of the moms out there: "Be brave if you can and most of all be PROUD!"

27 English Words You Probably Use When Speaking Spanish
If you speak Spanish or have tried to learn it, then you know there are so many freaking words! But although the language has a vast (endless, it seems) array of terms and phrases that mean the same thing and a few special words that have no translation, I recently noticed I tend to borrow a handful of English words here and there. I ask a friend, for example, to please put a "hot dog" on the grill for me and say I have nothing to wear in my "closet." It turns out, I'm not alone! After polling friends, family, and editors, I came up with 27 English words commonly used in Spanish - some of these will actually shock you.
Did we miss any? Let us know what other English words have made their way into your Spanish vocabulary in the comments.

While Blake dressed casual in a button down and jeans, Gwen looked like a complete rockstar wearing colorful prints and her signature red lipstick. The Latest Trend For Pregnant and New Moms Is Seriously Stunning
Instead of posing for portraits in front of a controlled backdrop or outdoor location, these moms-to-be are changing up their maternity and newborn photo sessions in favor of a milk bath. While no two photo shoots are exactly the same, many of these dreamy sessions involve filling a tub with water and then adding milk until the desired transparency is achieved. Photos can be personalized by opting for different types and amounts of flowers that surround the mama or little one as they float in the white water.
Photographer Ashley McGinty uses a jetted tub and adds enough water to cover the jets as well as 3/4 a gallon of milk. If you don't have access to a nice tub, she also suggests using a plastic kiddie pool as an alternative if you drape it with a tarp before you fill it. "I think milk bath photography is becoming popular because of the simplicity of it," Ashley explained to POPSUGAR. "The focus isn't on the location or the outfit."
Instead, photographers focus on the beautiful mom-to-be embracing the end of her pregnancy in an intimate environment as she gets ready to meet her tiny human. "So many moms opt for a water birth for the same reasons - it's a comfortable and natural environment for mom and baby," Ashley says. "The beauty with milk bath sessions is you can keep them simple but they're also extremely versatile depending on the look you desire. You can add anything as decor, even color the water and endless options of attire." To complete the natural look, bright blooms pop against the solid-white liquid and fresh greenery adds an organic feel.
Valerie Shannon of Valerie Shannon Photography also notes that this is a great option for babies because you can get those adorable newborn shots without worrying about the child being too exposed. "In my experience, either a baby loves it or hates it and it's funny to see each baby's reaction to the milk and flowers!" Valerie told us. "I spray my flowers and leaves with Scotchgard to help them stay afloat and use vitamin D because it's really thick."
Whether Mom is wrapped in tulle that dissolves into the milk as her bump peeks out or a newborn is surrounded by sweet succulents and eucalyptus leaves, these photos consistently turn out stunning.

Here's the 1-Click Way to Share a Photo on Instagram, Facebook, and Other Accounts
Despite the amount of work that often goes into crafting the perfect shot, posting it should theoretically be pretty effortless. If you happen to be a blogger with multiple social channels - or just love sharing your snaps on any and all platforms - then you should definitely adopt this Instagram feature that allows you to effortlessly share that same photo on all of your different pages. Here's how . . .
1. Link your Instagram to other social platforms.
Open your Instagram and click on the furthest icon on the right, taking you to your own profile page. Then click on the settings gear in the upper right-hand corner. Scroll down to settings and click on "Linked Accounts." Click on each different social platform you'd like to link to your Instagram and log in.
2. Grant Instagram access.
When you log in to other platforms like Twitter and Tumblr, Instagram will list the ways in which it will now access information from your other applications. If you're cool with that, then simply read them over and proceed to log in.
3. Get sharing.
Once you're ready to share your photo, upload the picture as you regularly would. On the final screen before sharing, your newly linked social channels will be listed at the bottom, and you can select the other ones you want your photo to be shared on. That's all - it's that easy!
