This Mom Inspired an Autism-Friendly Checkout Line After Her Daughter's Major Meltdown
All shopping trips can be stressful for parents when their child is in tow, especially when it comes time to check out.
Kristin Jackowski is more than familiar with this less than desirable situation, but the struggle is even more difficult for the Philadelphia mom because her daughter has autism. After one of 5-year-old NavyAnna's particularly upsetting meltdowns in the checkout line, Kristin decided to try to make a change. She launched a petition asking large stores to create an autism-friendly checkout aisle. The movement was originally focused on Target, but ShopRite heard about the idea, listened to its customer's need, and made it happen at its newest location.
"I'm over the moon and sobbing like a maniac," she told Philadelphia Magazine. "It's a great example, and I hope other companies follow suit."
This new setup swaps sugary candy and snacks for sensory-friendly items including crayons, stress balls, toys, and wet wipes, which is huge for both families with children on the autism spectrum and those who wish to avoid the point-of-purchase candy temptation entirely. According to her mom, NavyAnna has low impulse control and the sweet treats in the checkout aisle trigger a meltdown when she has to put them back. "We have encountered judgment from other customers and employees who are ignorant to these issues," the mom of three wrote in the petition online. "The stares, comments and eye rolls of disgust I could do without, because the situation is already hard enough."
According to ShopRite store director Paul Kourtis, "It was easy to do." He added: "I have 18 checkouts at the store. If I lose one for a good cause, that's perfectly OK."
The aisle is marked with the autism puzzle-piece symbol and Kristin hopes that other large companies will follow ShopRite's lead. "[Shoppers] are going crazy for it. Even if you don't have a child who is autistic, everybody knows a child who is," Paul said. "People think it's a great idea. Anything to provide our customers with a safe and friendly shopping experience, I say let's do it."

Snapchat Just Made It SO Much Easier to Create a Custom Filter
One of the best aspects of Snapchat is discovering its best features along the way. A favorite among users is definitely the geofilter, which unlocks according to which city you're in. A few months ago, the company started allowing anyone to create a filter, and now, it's become even easier with ready-made templates anyone can use.
Snapchat first introduced its on-demand geofilter in February, allowing all users - not just the selected few whose art submissions get approved - to design their own geofilters for a specific time frame and location. This feature is ideal for weddings, events, birthday parties, and businesses, which were not eligible to submit geofilters previously.
If your design submission meets Snapchat's guidelines, you can upload it online and select the time and "geofence" (either the venue or location radius you'd like covered) it can be accessible for. It will then get reviewed for approval within one business day. The fee for customizing a geofilter starts at $5 and varies depending on the duration (max is 30 days) and location range (from 20,000 to 5 million square feet), according to Business Insider.
Beginning Aug. 30, Snapchat now has templates ready for you to tinker with online. You can choose from the following ones: birthdays, celebrations, and weddings. You'll then see six different filters that you can customize with color and other text. So basically, if you're ever celebrating something, you have zero excuses not to create a filter. And this will be on a Sunday morning, so I'm not going to say it." "It sounds ridiculous, but I kind of made a pact with God," the Global Citizen Festival headliner continued. "And I don't even think you're supposed to do that, but I promised, 'If You make me a singer one day, I'm going to use my voice for so much more than singing, and I'm going to help people with it.'" Since overcoming her struggles, Demi has successfully learned how to live without drugs and alcohol, a change that she credits as the reason behind her skyrocketing career. Eva Mendes Is Beaming in a New Interview About Her Daughters
While Eva Mendes is known to be pretty private about her personal life - by celebrity standards, that is - the actress recently opened up about her two daughters with Ryan Gosling, 2-year-old Esmeralda and newborn Amada Lee.
While speaking to E! at a presentation for her collaboration with New York and Company, Eva gushed about her family's newest addition, as well as what's changed since having her first daughter. She said, "It's not that different because this little Amada - Amadita - is an angel. She's such an angel that it hasn't changed that much yet, but I feel like in a few months once she really starts having a voice . . . I think it'll be a little bit louder."
When asked about Amada and Esmeralda's differing personalities, Eva said, "They definitely come with their own stuff and it's pretty great. I feel like my job is just to get out of their way, and protect them, but let them be who they are."
Eva also spilled some truth about motherhood and how it's affected her personal style. She said, "I think basically the bar is just lower. If I even get dressed today it's an accomplishment," adding, "I really do think that in a way that is true for me. It's just about speed now. What can I get into the fastest? What am I going to feel secure in?"
As further proof that she's one down-to-earth celebrity, Eva noted that she's in "no rush" to get back to her prepregnancy size. "I'm having a good ol' time taking advantage of the postpregnancy thing," she said.

At 35 weeks pregnant, Megan Meier had her hands full with her 3-year-old girl, especially since her husband was out of town. But despite her third-trimester status and her kid's babysitter falling through, this sports medicine physician was determined to do her job.
The Oklahoma City doctor was scheduled to provide sideline coverage for a local high school football game when circumstances left her with no child-care coverage. Instead of canceling on work, she showed up with her baby bump and toddler strapped to her back to care for all of the players. Megan shared the photo with a group of physician moms as a visual representation of what they do each and every day, and the impressive photo has since gone viral.

This Late Kindergartener Wouldn't Walk Into School Until He Said the Pledge of Allegiance
When Heather Nelson dropped her little boy off at school, she watched from the car line to make sure that he made it into the building safely. But just as Royce got to the front door, the kindergartener stopped in his tracks and bowed his head.
Heather, who was confused why her son wasn't making his way to class since he was running late, called from the car window for the child to go inside. But as other kids passed him as they made their way to their own classroom, Royce didn't budge.
A police officer standing in the front of the building saw Heather calling to her son and let the concerned mom know what her child was doing: he was proudly partaking in the pledge of allegiance with his hand over his heart.
"Since they do not have prayer in schools, he says a little prayer silently and that's exactly what he was doing," Heather shared on Facebook. "I was so proud that he stopped when the Pledge of Allegiance came, stood his ground and did not move as the other kids were going in, and then took time out and prayed. [He] did not even care or think twice about it."
