Kim Kardashian's Terrifying Robbery: a Timeline
Kim Kardashian experienced her own (and everyone else's) worst nightmare on Sunday night when she was robbed and held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room while in town for the Paris Fashion Week shows. Thankfully, the reality star survived the incident unscathed, although the details that continue to emerge about what happened to her are each more disturbing than the last. Here is everything that you need to know about the situation thus far:
- Kanye West ended his concert early due to a "family emergency." The rapper was in the midst of performing at the Meadows Festival in Queens, NY, on Sunday night when he stopped singing and apologized to the audience that he had to cut his set short because of a family emergency, shocking the crowd.
- News leaked that the family emergency in question was Kim being robbed in Paris. At around 3 a.m. in Paris, Kim was held hostage and robbed at gunpoint in her luxury apartment at the No Address Hotel - a private mansion where her husband has owned a space since 2011 - where she had been staying all week. Although popular with celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence, the residence's only security measures are a receptionist at the door and "a nightman."
- Kim's representatives released a statement about the incident. "Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening by two armed masked men dressed as police officers," her reps told The Hollywood Reporter on Sunday. "She is badly shaken but physically unharmed."
- The French Interior Ministry spoke out. The security organization said that five men were involved; they wore ski masks and forced the concierge to give them access to Kim's private apartment, where two of the men then entered. After the robbery, the attackers fled on bicycles, and according to Us Weekly, officials believe the robbery was committed by a "highly organized" gang.
- The Paris prosecutor's office revealed how much Kim lost in the robbery. On the Today show, it was confirmed that the reality star's wedding ring (though not her engagement ring) and her jewelry box, worth over $10 million, were stolen. Two smartphones were also among the items lost.
- A source came forward to shed chilling details about the nature of the robbery. According to one of E!'s sources, Kim was bound and gagged during the incident, before being handcuffed and threatened with a gun. "She begged for them to let her live and [said] she has babies at home. Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub," they said. "She thought they were for sure going to kill her."
- Kim left Paris aboard her private jet. TMZ reports that an understandably upset Kim left Paris in a hurry after what she called "the worst moment in my life."
- Kim landed safely in NYC. Though missing her wedding ring, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star landed safely in NYC on Monday morning, where she was spotted walking into her apartment building in Manhattan with Kanye by her side. Upon landing, she reportedly traveled with a security-heavy entourage of 10 vehicles and 15-20 bodyguards.
- A source said Kim has been worried about this for a long time. "This was one of Kim's biggest fears," a source told People, adding that she was hysterical while relaying the details of what happened to Kanye. "She's always known the threats are out there, but for something to happen, it's almost unimaginable. It's going to take her a very long time to feel safe again."
- A suspect was called in for questioning, while the apartment Kim was robbed in was investigated by forensic officers. Us Weekly discovered that a photographer had been obsessively following the Kardashians around Paris Fashion Week days earlier and was even able to get inside the restaurant they were dining in by dressing up as a policeman (the same method the thieves later used to gain access to her building). French police also have the residence surrounded and are thoroughly investigating the space for traces to nail the perpetrators with the help of a forensic officer.
- Kanye rescheduled his tour dates. On Oct. 3, Live Nation released a statement on the singer's behalf, saying, "Due to family concerns, this week's Philadelphia and Detroit dates on the Saint Pablo tour have been rescheduled." The two shows will now take place on Dec. 13 and Dec. 22, respectively, and the tour will officially resume on Oct. 7.
- Kim feared she was going to be raped. "The reports of her fear of being raped are real," a source told People. "She really did think she was going to be raped. She had a gun to her head the whole time."
- Kim might have been followed while in Paris. Us Weekly reported that the perpetrators might have been tailing Kim all week dressed as a detective and a photographer. The Daily Mail also posted footage of an unidentified man driving a gray Fiat 500 weaving through traffic in an attempt to follow the car Kim was riding in after attending a fitting with Kanye and Kourtney. He reportedly followed them to a restaurant, where he was denied entrance to even after telling people there that he was a police officer, which lines up with allegations saying she was robbed by people dressed as law enforcement.
- Paris police search for a mysterious black limo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, police have recovered surveillance footage from a shoe store across the street from where Kim was staying, which shows a black limo with tinted windows circling the area around the time that she was robbed.
- Filming for Keeping Up With the Kardashians gets put on hold. On Oct. 6, news broke that the popular E! reality series has been placed "on hold indefinitely". New episodes from the 12th season that have already been filmed will resume on Oct. 23.
- The robbers may have chosen Kim as their target because of Kanye. It was revealed on Oct. 7 that after breaking into the apartment building, the men asked the concierge in French, "Where's the rapper's wife?" This could possibly mean that the suspects, who reportedly arrived and left the scene on bicycles, may not have known Kim by name, but rather through Kanye and his fame.
- The men knew what they were doing. A source told People that it was "a very well-coordinated robbery" and that they left essentially no DNA evidence.
- Kanye resumes his Saint Pablo Tour. On Oct. 7, the rapper returned to the stage in his hometown of Chicago and told the crowd, "It's good to be home." Kim was also spotted arriving back in LA earlier in the day.
- Kim's diamond cross necklace was found. After one of Kim's platinum-mounted jewelry pieces was found outside of her Paris hotel on Monday, Us Weekly reported that the robbers deliberately dropped the necklace in an attempt to con the police into thinking they were amateurs. The burglars reportedly set up a "double bluff" escape ruse in which one of the men fell off his bicycle, while another pretended to accidentally drop a piece of jewelry as they fled. Paris police told the publication, "They wanted us to believe that they were amateurs, but all the real clues point to them being extremely sophisticated professionals. There is no way a gang like this would drop stuff and fall off bicycles. All that was done for any cameras that might be in the area. It is far more likely that they played around on bikes for a few minutes after stealing the jewels and when they still had their masks on, before they all got into a van and disappeared."
- Kim was a no-show at the Keeping Up With the Kardashians season 12 wrap party. The Kardashian-Jenner family celebrated the end of the show's 12th season with a party on Oct.11, and naturally, the family shared photos from the event on Instagram. Noticeably missing from the pictures was Kim, who's been keeping a low profile since the robbery.
- Kim canceled her Las Vegas club appearance. On Oct. 12, E! News revealed that Kim had canceled her annual birthday appearance at Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas. A rep for the club told the news outlet, "Given recent circumstances, Kim Kardashian will be unable to make her previously scheduled appearance at Hakkasan Las Vegas Nightclub."
- Kim receives an apology from a website that claimed she lied about the robbery. After suing MediaTakeOut.com for saying Kim lied about her Paris incident, the site released an apology, stating, "We can understand how reports questioning if the robbery in fact took place can be hurtful, and so we apologize. No one deserves to go through such a traumatic experience. Kim is not just celebrity, she is a person, a wife and a mother - who in no way deserved what happened to her."

Danny Elfman Just Turned the Presidential Debate Into a Chilling Horror Movie
If you tuned in to the awkwardness of the second presidential debate, we've got a special Halloween-themed treat for you. During a few parts of said event, the strange staging and camera shots in particular had Donald Trump looming ominously in the background while Hillary Clinton spoke. Clinton herself even gave a nod to it when she talked about the debate on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. "He was really trying to dominate and then literally stalk me around the stage," she said. "I would just feel this presence behind me." It seems she's not the only one who felt this way; the folks at Funny or Die enlisted the help of award-winning composer Danny Elfman to turn the debate into a horror film called Trump Stalks Hillary. Much like the rest of the 2016 election, you're probably going to lose sleep over it.

This Will Make You Rethink Everything You Thought About Petunia Dursley
Petunia Dursley was no angel. In fact, she was really quite terrible. She was at best negligent of a helpless child and, at worst, cruel to him. Harry Potter committed no crime save being related to Aunt Petunia's sister, and Lily committed no crime (that we know of), save being a witch. Whereas Vernon and Dudley's treatment of Harry can be attributed to their bigotry, ignorance, and fear of what they don't understand, Petunia's most definitely runs deeper. She was left behind by a sister she loved and isolated from a life and world she could never be a part of. And then, from her perspective, the people who took Lily away were also responsible for her death.
So her feelings toward Harry Potter were understandably conflicted - although this by no means justifies her terrible treatment of an orphan boy who needed a mother figure. But a moment in Goblet of Fire sheds light on a side of Petunia we hadn't really seen up until that point from the overindulging mother of a very, very spoiled child. In a moment of perceived danger, her maternal instincts kick in and her selfishness flies out the window faster than a speeding Bludger. A recent Reddit thread described the situation perfectly:
In the beginning of the book, there is a chapter where Mr. Weasley, the twins, and Ron arrive by floo powder at the Dursley's house to collect Harry. It's a funny chapter that really underscores the differences between wizards and the Dursleys, especially with Arthur vs. Vernon, but I was struck by the Dursley's bravery.
At first, Vernon shields Petunia and Dudley with his body while talking to the Weasleys, which is brave in and of itself, given how he feels about wizards. However, the scene that made me have to turn off the book and think for a minute happened after Ron and the twins had left. The twins had left behind the ton-tongue toffee, which Dudley had eaten, which forced his tongue to grow. Arthur steps towards him with a raised wand, saying he can fix it - as readers, we know he would never hurt Dudley, but the Dursleys don't have that insight.
Petunia and Vernon loathe wizards and are terrified of them. In this scene, this complete stranger, this wizard, has blasted apart their fireplace without a second thought, demonstrating a great deal of potentially destructive power. He steps forward toward Dudley, wand raised. Petunia immediately throws herself across Dudley, shielding him from what she perceives to be malicious intent, exactly like Lily shielded Harry from Voldemort.
It was a small detail, a single line in the book, but it blew me away. She may not be a likeable character, and is of course awful towards Harry, but in this moment she was remarkably selfless and brave in the perceived face of death or serious harm.
Does Petunia deserve a little more sympathy and understanding? Nothing excuses the way she treated Harry, but from her perspective, she's seen the bad side of magic more frequently than the good - which explains why she so adamantly wants to stamp it out of her nephew.
And don't forget the most important point of of all: when Petunia received the Howler from Dumbledore in Half-Blood Prince, she (for once) defied Vernon and absolutely insisted Harry be allowed to stay at Four Privet Drive. She knew doing so might very well be saving his life, the same way allowing him to come back each Summer protected it. She never wanted Harry dead; she simply did not want the daily reminder of a dead sister and her own guilt over their unresolved relationship.
Then, in her final goodbye to Harry, although she can't bring herself to show any love toward him, she does the only thing she can do:
"Aunt Petunia, whose face had been buried in her handkerchief, looked around at the sound. She did not seem to have expected to find herself alone with Harry. Hastily stowing her wet handkerchief into her pocket, she said, 'Well - good-bye,' and marched toward the door without looking at him.
'Good-bye,' said Harry.
She stopped and looked back. For a moment Harry had the strangest feeling that she wanted to say something to him. She gave him an odd, tremulous look and seemed to teeter on the edge of speech, but then, with a little jerk of her head, she bustled out of the room after her husband and son."
She is not a character with some heart of gold buried beneath her facade, and she isn't even someone I'd say is redeemable (like Severus Snape, for instance). She has no love for Harry. She's someone with a difficult past, who was put in a hard situation and who responded to that in the wrong way. Sadly, she never really allowed herself the chance to make it right. One has to hope that her son, Dudley, with his final handshake and moving goodbye to Harry, one day decided to have the courage that the other Dursleys didn't - to become a better person than he was raised to be.

This Underwater Rainbow Baby Maternity Photo Is Going to Take Your Breath Away
About a year ago, Teresa Creech was called by the local hospital to photograph a premature baby who was in poor condition and would not survive. The somber shoot, which also featured the baby's parents, Siggy and Mariela, and their six- and eight-year-old children, stuck with Creech over the course of the year. She decided to reach out to the couple on Facebook to say hello, when she was given the exciting news that they were 30 weeks pregnant.
Creech agreed to shoot their maternity photos, and the results are some of the most beautiful and creative photos we've seen - they're all completely underwater! Along with photos of the mama-to-be in a gorgeous, flowing maroon dress, Creech took one very special photo with colorful ribbons to honor the baby they lost while celebrating their rainbow baby.
The Universe Is a Lot Bigger Than Scientists Thought - About 10 Times Bigger
New findings from NASA and the Hubble Space Telescope indicate that the universe is much larger than we'd ever thought. Scientists originally believed the universe contained about 100 to 200 billion galaxies. Turns out, that estimate is way off, and there could be as many as 2 trillion galaxies, according to a press release.
A British team, led by scientist and Professor Christopher Conselice, "painstakingly" analyzed images from the the telescope and found that about 90 percent of the galaxies in the universe are too far to be fully captured by the telescope. Since the galaxies are not consistently spread throughout the universe, there could be a whole lot more out there that definitely exists that we can't yet see nor count.
In the press statement, Conselice said, "It boggles the mind that over 90 percent of the galaxies in the Universe have yet to be studied. Who knows what interesting properties we will find when we observe these galaxies with the next generation of telescopes."
While it is daunting to think about the vastness of our universe, it's thrilling to see scientists make these strides to improve our collective grasp on what exactly is happening outside of our little blue planet.

The Latest Rumor About the MacBook Keyboard Isn't True but We Can Still Dream
A new rumor that suggested an E Ink keyboard was coming to the MacBook in a few years is most likely not true. Though we can keep dreaming of a day a keyboard this cool will exist on our computers, the company behind the product dispelled the rumors.
The rumor began when The Guardian reported that Apple was considering buying the startup Sonder, which designed and created a keyboard that's customizable and uses E Ink (the same technology you see in Kindles). Many outlets reported the news and even confirmed with Sonder to verify the news. However, someone from the company wrote in a Reddit post on Oct. 13 that they never met with Tim Cook or were involved in any talks to be acquired.
While we're a bit bummed that this technology might not be coming to the MacBook, it's worth checking out to see what the hype was all about. You can see the keyboard in action below.
However, the new MacBook Pros are expected to arrive later this month and might come with a cool OLED touchscreen display keyboard. And who knows, we could see this E Ink keyboard on the MacBook someday.
