The Ultimate Guide to a Leather Jacket and All of Its Parts
When you're finally ready to invest in a quality leather jacket, there are many questions to ask yourself. Do you prefer genuine leather or faux? (There are plenty of well-crafted, vegan options that will bring just as much edge to your outfits.) Is it essential you buy classic black, or do you prefer a vibrant pop of color? While a quick browse on your favorite retailer sites can get you some answers, consider this your quick sheet.
We're breaking down the various details of a standard design, all of which come together to achieve a certain look. While the triangle panels and thick buckle belt achieve a moto style, you can score a leather bomber coat too - one that features elastic at the waist and way fewer embellishments or panels.
After you learn the basics and decide if a defined cuff and pockets are a necessity, it's time to shop. The jackets below are a few of our favorites available now, but they range in price based on the materials used to create the leather, its resulting thickness, and whether it's real or vegan.
While real cowhide leather provides structure, it takes a while to wear in and may at first appear stiff. Meanwhile, calf skin is a fabric that offers a bit more slouch. Then you've got lamb and goat, which achieve a butter-soft touch, and finally buffalo or bison, the most functional yet costly choice - though these will last for a lifetime.
Read on to explore the anatomy of a leather jacket, and once you find one you like, don't forget to zero in on its detailed description or go to the store to try it on. You definitely won't regret making such a sensible, well-considered purchase.
- Collar: The collar of your jacket rests right around your neck and often features a fastener on each side, though some leather coats are collarless with just a button snap at the front.
- Fasteners: These are the metal studs you'll find at the points of your collar or lapel, which is a bit further down. While many of them are just for show, they play up the hardware on the rest of your coat and make it look perfectly polished.
- Lapels: These triangle-shaped slices of fabric sometimes connect with the collar, and their crisp shape is what brings edge to a moto-style jacket. Usually, the zipper runs along the edge of one panel so when you close your coat, a square shape is created.
- Pockets: If you're a fan of pockets, search for a jacket with plenty. Many leather coats feature diagonal pockets on one side, a go-to spot for storing extra cash, cards, or even your phone. Some side pockets snap closed with a button, while others complement the single zipper running down the center of your design.
- Lining: The lining of your coat is the material that runs along the inside. Whether it's cotton, a quilted nylon, or even suede, a lining might help to make your design feel - or look! - more luxe when you're wearing it.
- Waist Buckle: A waist buckle runs along the lower edge of your jacket and you can use it to create more of a cinched fit. There are plenty of jackets that feature one or two buckles on each side to add extra edge. For a rugged, undone look, leave yours opened.
- Zipper: When it comes to a leather jacket, you might find more than one zipper. Whether there's one on the back of each sleeve or it acts as closure to any of your pockets, the more hardware you've got going on, the flashier statement you'll make. Of course, a single zipper runs down the center of your coat, cinching the panels together when it's pulled up.
- Cuffs: Some cuffs are folded and obvious, while others you can create yourself by folding up or unzipping the hem of your sleeve. On classic bombers, your cuffs are usually made from an elastic jersey, and the resulting look is totally sporty.
- Shoulder Epaulettes (optional): These are little details added to the top of each shoulder to create a square shape. Depending how ornamental they are, they might work to give off military vibes. Usually, you'll find epaulettes that are simply buttoned flaps.
- Shearling (optional): Shearling either functions as the lining to your entire coat, keeping you warm, or it sits pretty along the collar. It's usually meant to be visible, bringing soft, fuzzy texture to your look.
- Panels (optional): Panels are contrasting swatches of fabric that might be the same color but vary in texture. Your jacket might have soft panels on the interior of the sleeve, or it might feature ribbed leather panels down the sides or in place of an epaulette at the shoulder.
This Dad Helped His Daughter Transform Into the Best Wonder Woman Cosplay EVER
Some parents like to take it easy when it comes to planning out their kid's Halloween costume. Others, like Josh Rossi, prefer to design an epic Wonder Woman costume and recreate scenes from the upcoming movie for their kid.
Rossi, who is a professional photographer and designer, spent $1,500 to create a handmade leather Wonder Woman costume for his 3-year-old daughter, Nellee, writes Full Time Photographer. Rossi worked with McGrew Studio's in Salt Lake City Utah to make the costume and then took photographs of his daughter posing in epic scenes from the Wonder Woman trailer.
The result includes spectacular photographs of Nellee looking epic as Wonder Woman in the trailer and a costume that will definitely win any Halloween contest. Rossi chose Wonder Woman because of what the character symbolizes for his daughter. "[Wonder Woman] is strong and almost more powerful than Superman which intrigued me," said Rossi in an email. "I want my daughter to have a role model that makes her feel more empowered and independent."
As you can imagine, Nellee is in love with the costume and won't take it off, added Rossi. If you're interested in a behind-the-scenes video, Rossi shared one on his YouTube channel. Ahead, see photos of the epic photographs with some before and after shots. You're going to love how incredible Nellee looks!

Vanessa Hudgens's Newest Hairstyle Has Some Fans Furious

People immediately took to Twitter to voice their concerns over her look, claiming it is cultural appropriation.
This is not the first time Vanessa has been accused of this - she has been spotted wearing bindis at music festivals, and most recently, wore dreamcatchers as hair accessories (though some were quick to point out that Vanessa herself is part Native American).
So far, the star has remained silent on her new look. Keep reading to see some more shots of her hair, then pore over some of the enraged tweets to form your own opinion.

Why "Hush" Will Forever Be the Creepiest Episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I will never forget when I first watched "Hush." It was Dec. 14, 1999. I was 7 years old, and I had just finished stuffing my face with lots of birthday cake and pizza from my sister's birthday party earlier that day. I also remember my eyes nearly popping out of my sockets from staring at the screen so damn hard the entire episode. If you haven't seen it, here's the premise: a group of six fairy-tale-like demons (referred to as "The Gentlemen") casts a magical spell on everyone in town, taking away their voices. This allows The Gentlemen to roam the city at night looking for victims who aren't able to scream as they cut their hearts out. Yes, it is as eerie as it sounds. I've seen all 144 episodes of Buffy, and The Gentleman are hands down the creepiest villains to ever appear on the show.
"Hush" was filmed mainly without dialogue. Instead, a chilling musical score amplifies the quiet moments, which makes it even more frightening. Joss Whedon, creator of the series, described his inspiration for "Hush" in 2014, stating, "I wanted something scary and kind of dream like. The idea that something like that is floating at me, and I can't scream is a creepy child story dream." Mission accomplished. Keep reading to see why this spooky episode of Buffy should be on your must-watch list this Halloween.
The 1 Taco Version You'll Be Eating Through the Cold Season
We're going to go ahead and estimate that every person who loves tacos equally loves taco salads in the Summer and taco soup in the Winter - not that we're suggesting you set aside any iteration of your favorite dish pending on the weather outside; that would be foolish. That's why we've rounded up 12 super easy ways to make taco soup. There's something here for the slow-cooker lover, the carnivore, the vegetarian, and even the fit and healthy one.
"Pink Eye" Makeup Is Trending on Instagram - and It's Absolutely Stunning!
Scroll through your Instagram feed (if you follow a lot of beauty bloggers!), and one thing should be apparent: pink eye is rampant! The Barbie-inspired eye color may seem unexpected for Fall (when dark colors usually reign supreme), but it's definitely a spreading movement. Think of it as a nod to October sunsets, Autumn leaves, and the flush you get from being in the cold air too long. We love it for holiday party makeup, a wedding look, or workwear.
"A playful and pretty pop of pink shadow can work to instantly brighten your look," Kelli J. Bartlett, Director of Makeup Artistry at Glamsquad, told POPSUGAR. "This trend has a youthful and energetic quality that can look dreamy or dramatic, depending on the shade and application you choose."
So let's talk about how to find the right pink so you look sick not sickly. In general, Bartlett believes all skin tones can rock a pink shadow, and the best way to find yours is trial and error. "When finding the right type of pink (cool or warm), you should consider your overall coloring (hair color, complexion, and eye color) as this will inform the type of pink that complements you best," she said. "Rich raspberries look amazing on deeper tones, while light blush can look gorgeous on fair skin."
She also has a hack if you're not ready to buy a pink palette, but still looking to experiment. "For those who aren't ready for hot pinky pink, pop your favorite blush color on your eye," she advised. "You can also test the trend by dabbing some of your favorite pink/peach lipstick (not the liquid matte kind though!) on your finger, and swiping it back and forth on your eyelid. Use your finger to buff the color into the brow bone. Try swatching on the back of your hand first to test its stain potential."
Now that you've found the right hue, make sure to wear it in a modern way. "This trend looks best when paired with minimal makeup and a lush lash," she said. "Complete your look by wearing a similar pink hue on your cheeks and lips. This is just the right amount of color-coordinating without appearing too matchy-matchy." Also: She suggests using a fluffy brush to dust a little shadow on your brow bone to give warmth to the look.
There is one place pink shadow should not go. "To avoid possibly looking sickly, focus on the upper eyelid only and steer clear of the lower waterline," she explained. "Applying on the lower lash line can make your eyelids look irritated."

Let's Talk About How Ridiculously Cute Justin Timberlake Looks at the Latest Trolls Premiere
Justin Timberlake has been zigzagging the globe to promote the new DreamWorks animated film Trolls, and he hit the rainbow carpet for a premiere of the flick in LA on Sunday. The singer, who provides his voice for the movie, looked devastatingly handsome as he posed for photos, took video of fans on his phone, and linked up with costars Anna Kendrick, James Corden, and Zooey Deschanel.
Between his press rounds for Trolls, Justin has also been filming an untitled Woody Allen movie with Kate Winslet and Juno Temple; we've gotten a glimpse of his character in full '50s-style getups (including an old-timey lifeguard uniform) and shooting an intense scene with Kate at Coney Island in NYC. He also celebrated his fourth wedding anniversary with wife Jessica Biel after making their first joint appearance together in months.
You Need to See These Kids Staring at Prince William Like He's Made Out of the Crown Jewels
Prince William took a break from making appearances with Kate Middleton and bonding with his daughter, Princess Charlotte, on Monday to make a solo outing in Scotland. The Duke of Cambridge, who is also called the Earl of Strathearn while in Scotland, visited Stirling Castle on Oct. 24, where he met with children and servicemen to kick off his patronage of the Thin Red Line campaign for the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum, which is based in the castle. After being greeted by a group of enthusiastic kids, William dished out high-fives as he asked their plans for their half-term holidays from school. One young boy was photographed asking William for his autograph, while another looked up at him in awe. William also gave a presentation during his visit, which ended up providing the world with a hilarious photo of a man in a painting appearing to rest his hand on the royal's head. William's outing is just the latest in what is shaping up to be the royal family's best year yet.

This Blogger Found Her Wedding Dress in 30 Minutes, Then Packed It With Her For a Trip Around the World
Wedding dress shopping can take weeks, months, or even a year, so upon hearing that a blogger had found her gown in only 30 minutes, we were stunned. "I actually got my wedding gown in a sale . . . and for $199," Kach Medina said via email. "They [Simply Bridal] had a three-day sale and only few options for my size!"
Knowing that when a bride finds the right gown, it's best to say yes to the dress, Kach scooped it up and then packed it with her on a journey to 12 – yes, 12! – different countries. She and fiancé Jonathan Howe, the duo behind Two Monkeys Travel Group, traveled from California to countries such as Belize and Guatemala before finally landing in England for their wedding.
If you're wondering how in the world she fit her gown into her suitcase, Kach said, "It was in a vacuum ziplock bag so when I arrived in the UK I had it pressed professionally." Naturally, this wasn't a big deal for the travel blogger, who's traveled to 69 countries (and counting). On the couple's big day, Kach wore her strapless ballgown with a lace overlay and styled her veil with a flower crown, her signature item in all her snaps. The couple said their "I dos" in front of friends and family before, of course, jetting off to Antarctica for their honeymoon. Read on for more of Kach's story, and then see her dress from all angles.

Ryan Gosling Auditioned For Gilmore Girls, and Obviously We Have Been Robbed
Some outrageous news has come to light: Ryan Gosling, baby goose, object of your affections, was almost cast on Gilmore Girls. I use the term "almost" lightly, because he actually flunked his audition. Casting director Jami Rudofsky revealed the tidbit during the official Gilmore Girls Fan Festival over the weekend, saying that she had cast him in an indie movie before she began working on the show - I tried and failed to uncover the title of said indie movie - and thought of him for the part of a "football character." Apparently his audition fell totally flat, and the rest of the crew thought she was crazy for thinking he was any good to begin with.
Gosling is now an Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated superstar. You can next see him in the upcoming award-season favorite La La Land.
The end.

After Kids Made Fun of Her Brother With Autism, This 6-Year-Old Wrote a Powerful Letter
Even though Lex is only 6 years old, she understands something that many far beyond her years struggle to comprehend: it's important to celebrate everyone's differences instead of tearing them down.
The compassionate little girl from England was shocked to learn that others, including her own classmates, don't know this vital lesson when a classmate said that her brother was weird. Lex's 9-year-old brother has autism, and her peer's lack of understanding left Lex beyond upset.
Instead of getting mad, the mature child decided it was up to her to make a change and wrote a letter to her school. With minimal spelling help from her mom, Sophie Camilleri, Lex asked to speak about "Disability Awareness in Schools" during her next school council meeting.
Sophie shared the note on Facebook, and Lex's insightful words have already moved thousands:
On Monday I felt very sad because a girl in my class said that my brother was weird. My brother has autism and is not weird. I would like it if we could learn about all disabilities in school so that everybody understands that some people are different but we should all be treated the same.
"I'm so very proud that Lex has this view and wants to change the way other children view others with disabilities," Sophie wrote on Facebook. "She is only 6 years old and is already part of the school council, wanting to make this change."
The Walking Dead: Why This Guy Is a Bigger Deal Than You Think
See this guy? That's Dwight, from The Walking Dead. The season seven premiere is so action-packed that he fades into the background a bit, but he's there, wielding a crossbow on Negan's behalf. He could be mistaken for just another one of Negan's army of men, but he's actually really important within the larger story - at least he is in the comics, anyway. Comic Book Dwight is a former soldier. One of his most pivotal moments comes when he's first introduced to readers, when he kills Abe with his crossbow. (This is the death that Denise takes in the show.) Warning: comic book spoilers follow, and they may spoil upcoming plot lines on the show!
Before we get into Dwight's future, you may have noticed that horrific scar on the left side of his face. You may also have noticed that when we first meet Dwight in season six, he's not sporting it. Here he is in the sixth episode of season six, sans scar:

The show hasn't yet confirmed how Dwight gets his scar, but in the comics, here's how it goes down. Dwight becomes a member of the Saviors, along with his wife Sherry. Negan famously takes everyone's wives as his own property, including Sherry. Dwight continues his relationship with Sherry, and Negan punishes him by burning his face with a boiling-hot iron. We see it happen with another member of the Saviors, and Dwight reacts in a way that confirms it's how he received his scar as well. Later, he tells the story to Rick and Ezekiel. Here he is in the comics:

Right now, Dwight is a trusted member of Negan's army, but his character takes a major turn. Negan's one-sided "relationship" with Sherry pushes Dwight over the edge, and he goes to the Kingdom to share intel on the Saviors with Rick and Ezekiel. He forms a secret alliance, then returns to the Sanctuary. During "All Out War" - an iconic storyline in the books - Dwight slyly helps Rick and his men defeat Negan. He then become the leader of the Saviors. Two years in the future, Sherry has left Dwight and he resigns as leader of the Saviors, opting to join Rick's army.

At this point, we don't know where The Walking Dead writers will take Dwight on the TV show, but it's safe to say that he will play a big role in future episodes.

Update to iOS 10.1 - but Back Up Your Phone First!
Update: Apple's update to its newest operating system, iOS 10.1, is out and available for downloading. It's free, but before downloading, make sure your mobile files are safe and sound, just in case.
It's essential to back up your iPhone and/or iPad every time you update the device's software. New releases are not without their flaws. Follow this guide on backing up, restoring, and updating your phone and tablet.
8 Things You Need to Do Before Selling Your iPhone
10 Hidden Features Apple Didn't Share About iOS 10
iMessage Is Becoming the Apple Messaging App You've Always Wanted
Who Can Update?
The iPhone 5 and later, iPad (fourth generation and later), and iPod Touch (sixth generation) can run iOS 10. Unsure about the device model? Plug it into your computer, open iTunes, and the model as well as the currently installed version of iOS are listed under the Summary tab which has a phone icon in the top left. You'll also need to know the device's passcode in order to update. iTunes will prompt you to unlock the phone or tablet once it's connected.
How to Back Up on iTunes
If iTunes is your preferred method of backup, then connect your iPhone or iPad to a Mac or PC. You can only back up a device on one computer. Once the device is connected, click on File > Devices > Back Up to begin.
Alternatively, you can access the "Back Up Now" button under Summary in iTunes. Double-check your work by clicking the iTunes top menu > Preferences > Devices tab. You should see the name of the device and the time of backup.
How to Back Up on iCloud
On your device, open the Settings app, select iCloud, and tap Backup. Turn on iCloud Backup. After this option is selected, the device will automatically update when it is connected to the Internet via WiFi, the screen is locked, and it's hooked up to a power source. To do it manually, go to Settings, then iCloud, select Backup, and tap Back Up Now.
What's the Difference Between iTunes and iCloud?
If you have a lot of photos or videos in your Camera Roll (1GB or more), then iTunes Backup will be the best option. If you don't connect the device to a Mac or PC frequently (or ever), then iCloud will be your best bet. You can restore data to a device from anywhere with a WiFi connection via iCloud Backup. However, iCloud will not back up media not purchased through iTunes.
Backup Tips
- If you don't have enough storage space to back up, then a window reading "Not Enough Storage" will pop up. Reference this tip sheet on what to delete on your iPhone to make some more room.
- Selecting "Encrypt iPhone Backup" will encrypt the information stored on your Mac and require a password to restore a new or existing device from backup. Don't forget your password, because you will not be able to recover the data without it.
- Camera Roll photos will not be restored to an iPad from a backup if they were taken with an iPhone or iPod. The reverse is also true: Camera Roll photos taken on an iPad will not be restored from backup to an iPhone or iPod Touch.
How to Update to iOS 10
On the device, update by opening the Settings app, tapping on General, and selecting Software Update. You can also connect the device to a computer and find the software update button next to the backup section.
Now that you're all backed up, discover all of iOS's greatest tips and tricks.
The Sweetest Dad Ever Just Turned His Son's Wheelchair Into a Ghostbusters Mobile
Every year, Ryan Scott Miller searches for the ultimate Halloween costume for his son, Jeremy. His son has a condition called spina bifida, which requires him to use a wheelchair, but his dad will not let this get in the way of his incredible Halloween costumes. Last year, Ryan transformed Jeremy's wheelchair into a Star Wars snowspeeder, and this year, he definitely topped it with a Ghostbusters Ecto-1 mobile. Before Halloween, Ryan asked his friends to vote and choose his son's costume, and they decided on an Ecto-1, which did not disappoint.
Jeremy's Ecto-1 is covered from headlight to taillight in spot-on ghost-fighting gear with yellow canisters, blue tubes, siren lights, two speakers, and so much more. If you're wondering what the two speakers could possibly do, Ryan explained on Imgur that one is for the Ghostbusters siren and the other is for the theme music. Most epic Halloween costume ever? We think so.
Thank you, Ryan, we officially know who we're gonna call for our Halloween costumes! Check out the video above to see Jeremy in action and melt over the photos of his costume below.
Amid Venezuela's Political Turmoil, This 8-Year-Old Boy Has a Solution
Just days before Venezuelan lawmakers announced plans to impeach President Nicolás Maduro, an 8-year-old boy from the South American country proposed his own earnest plan to help alleviate the ongoing turmoil.
In a Facebook post on Humans of New York, the little boy said he moved to New York from Venezuela two years ago. He then launched into a very sweet and impressively polished speech that detailed his political agenda. He said, "Did you know that sometimes in Venezuela people shoot each other on purpose? I will change that. Also there will be rules against pushing people or thinking bad thoughts about people."
After listing his other policies, he said, "I can't be president now because I'm only 8. But I did skip first grade." Based on this post alone, we can say he'd have our vote once he reaches 35 - so, in 27 years.

5 Reasons You Should Absolutely Download iOS 10.1 Right Now
If you're the owner of an iPhone 7 Plus, consider yourself blessed with iOS 10.1. Apple's new iOS 10.1 update includes plenty of bug improvements and fixes, as well as bringing the long-awaited Portrait Mode feature to the iPhone 7 Plus.
Portrait Mode is a feature only available on the iPhone 7 Plus, thanks to the phone's two camera lenses: a wide angle and telephoto lens. With Portrait Mode, you can take a photo with a "depth-of-field effect" that will blur out the background while keeping faces and objects clear in the forefront. You can see the difference of a photo without Portrait Mode and one with it below.

Additionally, iOS 10.1 includes a handful of new improvements like:

This Makeup Artist's 2-Faced Halloween Looks Will Make You Do a Double Take
If you've narrowed down your Halloween costume picks to two final contenders, why not mash them up into one hybrid, "half and half" costume? Though it may not sound pretty, we can confirm that it's actually an incredible look thanks to makeup artist Natalie Costello, who goes by @natzbuzz on Instagram.
The Dublin-based makeup artist has been sharing a wealth of Halloween beauty inspiration to her feed, but none has motivated us as much as these two-faced looks. By splitting her face into halves with paint, she's created a way to rock two costumes at once (especially cool if the two themes are related!). Our favorite is the above Jasmine and Rajah mashup from Aladdin, but Costello has taken on some seriously incredible characters, from DC Comics and Disney to Tim Burton. Read on to see some of her best masterpieces.

Pentatonix's Take on "Hallelujah" Will Absolutely Give You Chills on Chills on Chills
"Hallelujah" indeed. Last week, famous a cappella group Pentatonix released their version of the iconic song, and it's haunting and beautiful enough to give you instant goosebumps. The song is fresh off the group's new Christmas album, A Pentatonix Christmas, which dropped on Oct. 21. This isn't the first time we've heard them slay a Christmas classic; last year, they busted out with a music video for "Joy to the World". But let's just say this stunning release might be their best yet.
Is Today's Version of the Tupperware Party Empowering For Moms or Just Plain Annoying?
Today, I attended one of many similar events I've been invited to in the five-and-a-half years since I became a mom. It wasn't a playdate or a kids' birthday party, though I've been to dozens and dozens of each. It was a 10 a.m. party thrown so a mutual mom friend could present the line of organic skincare, cleaning, and baby products she reps.
I usually dread this kind of forced spending (seriously, if you go, you know you're buying something), but I was pleasantly surprised by how fun the morning was. The products were actually pretty great and very reasonably priced (I can't resist an affordable eye cream), but more importantly, this mom-trepreneur seemed to be more driven by her passion for the product line, which according to her soft pitch, is a lot more natural and organic than any of the products I buy at Target that make the same claim, than by making money.
There wasn't anything contrived or self-serving about her pitch. She was just passing along information she found interesting and important in hopes that we might, too. If not, no big deal. Of course, everyone there made at least one purchase. I bought a few lotions and potions that were already on my shopping list, spent less than I would on the same kind of products at Target or Sephora, and left feeling pretty good about the whole experience. That, however, has rarely been the case at other similar moms-selling-to-moms events I've attended.
Hell, I've put whole friendships on hold until a girlfriend's obsession with selling her new line of this or that faded.
I've been pitched by mom friends and friends of friends to buy nutritional and diet supplements, essential oils, superexpensive skincare products that claim to be more effective than Botox (doubt it), costume jewelry, and yoga pants. I've dodged calls from friends asking me to host events for their products, not wanting to beg other friends to come purchase not-needed stuff from someone they hardly know. Hell, I've put whole friendships on hold until a girlfriend's obsession with selling her new line of this or that faded.
The truth is, as a concept, I am totally on board with moms picking up part-time gigs selling whatever floats their boat. I was lucky to pick a career with an insane amount of flexibility, and I've been even luckier to find as little or as much work as I want during the times when my kids required more or less of my day. I am well aware that most moms don't have that same advantage, and I understand the appeal of taking on a selling gig that allows you to make some extra cash and still pick up your kids from preschool every day.
But in practice, the whole thing of selling to your friends and then asking them to add their contacts to your potential client base can feel icky and intrusive. Sure, you see stories on social media about women making six figures working just a few hours a week selling anti-aging creams, but most of the women I know who started selling those same creams eventually quit because they couldn't handle pitching everyone they knew over and over again.
The pervasiveness of mom-selling doesn't just irritate me because it can feel like my friendships are being leveraged to fulfill the professional goals of what was previously a personal relationship. It irritates me because it feels like it is the best and only option for so many smart, capable, educated women who have decided that, once they became moms, the nine-to-five corporate life wasn't going to work for them anymore. I wish American businesses would catch on that just because a woman decides she doesn't want to work 40-plus hours a week after having kids, it doesn't mean she can't be an essentially valuable employee.
Selling serums and soaps is great, but it shouldn't be a mom's only option.
Here's What Photos Look Like With This 1 Feature Only Available on the iPhone 7 Plus
There are several features to love and hate about the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Some people like the new colors, while others are heartbroken over the removal of the headphone jack. However, if you're still mulling over whether or not to get a new phone, the new cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus might convince you.
The iPhone 7 Plus includes two cameras with a wide angle lens and a telephoto lens. A telephoto lens is typically used for photos where you need to blur out the background and truly focus on literally what is in front of you and the lens. The iPhone 7 Plus has a new camera mode called Portrait Mode that now puts that type of photo in your hands. Apple calls it the "depth-of-field effect" that "keep[s] faces sharp while creating a blurred effect in the background." The effect is also known more commonly as a bokeh.
We were able to test out this new feature and instantly fell in love with it. It can turn any photo into something that looks professional and high-quality - which definitely means you can expect to start seeing these photos take over Facebook and dating profile pictures, Instagram feeds, and more. As a reporter, I own a $500 DSLR camera and bought a $200 lens to take the same type of photos. Of course, my DSLR still manages to take higher-quality pictures, but it also can't text or let me check Facebook, email, and more. Essentially, getting an iPhone 7 Plus is a pretty good deal and one that you won't be upset about, since you're getting the camera as well.
If you already hold an iPhone 7 Plus in your hands, download iOS 10.1 and then follow these quick tips:
- You can only take photos in bright lighting. Sorry, no low-lit bar photos.
- Take photos with only up to three people to keep the depth-of-field effect in focus.
- Position your subject further from the background to see more of an effect.
- Be mindful of your phone storage! The camera will save both a photo without depth-of-field and one with it.
Ahead, see some quick photos we took playing around with Portrait Mode. Keep in mind that these photos were taken when the feature was in beta and that the final version in iOS 10.1 might look different.

The Universe Is a Lot Bigger Than Scientists Thought - About 10 Times Bigger
New findings from NASA and the Hubble Space Telescope indicate that the universe is much larger than we'd ever thought. Scientists originally believed the universe contained about 100 to 200 billion galaxies. Turns out, that estimate is way off, and there could be as many as 2 trillion galaxies, according to a press release.
A British team, led by scientist Professor Christopher Conselice, "painstakingly" analyzed images from the telescope and found that about 90 percent of the galaxies in the universe are too far to be fully captured by the telescope. Since the galaxies are not consistently spread throughout the universe, there could be a whole lot more out there that definitely exists that we can't yet see nor count.
In the press statement, Conselice said, "It boggles the mind that over 90 percent of the galaxies in the Universe have yet to be studied. Who knows what interesting properties we will find when we observe these galaxies with the next generation of telescopes."
While it is daunting to think about the vastness of our universe, it's thrilling to see scientists make these strides to improve our collective grasp on what exactly is happening outside of our little blue planet.
