How 1 Group of Nurses Made Halloween Extra Special For 35 NICU Babies and Their Families

Just because these newborns are celebrating their first Halloween in the neonatal intensive care unit doesn't mean that they have to miss out on any of the fun.

Instead of letting the holiday pass by, a group of nurses and March of Dimes volunteers at St. Luke Hospital in Kansas City, MO, decided to get crafty. They brought the holiday spirit to these precious tots and their parents by designing tiny costumes fitting for these little superheroes and fighters.

"Families in our NICU may spend weeks or months here, and it can be an emotional time," hospital spokeswoman Michelle Manuel told POPSUGAR. "Providing an opportunity for them to celebrate Halloween with their little ones allows them a sense of normalcy and to celebrate their baby's first milestones, which is what every family wants to do."

From Batman to a butterfly, parents picked costumes to match their little ones' personalities and the volunteers handmade 35 miniature ensembles. Along with professional photos of their newborn's first Halloween costume, parents were also given a "Trick or Treat, smell my feet card" complete with their infant's footprints and a Halloween book to read together as well as a handmade crocheted pumpkin.

Emmalee Schaumburg, one of the three photographers who all happen to be moms of former NICU babies and who volunteered their services to capture these special costumes, understands the importance of photographing these moments even when they occur during a hospital stay. "Now that [my daughter is] 2 and a half, I am so glad I can go back and look at those pictures and see how far she's come," Emmalee told CNN. "It's so important to remember how far these babies have come."

Kate Middleton's Style Twin Is Your Favorite Sex and the City Character

Kate Middleton might be based in London, while Charlotte York's a fictional character from NYC, but you wouldn't believe the style overlap. How did it take us all this time to realize that both ladies prefer dainty bags, peplum silhouettes, and the same sort of diamond jewels?

Charlotte might have been at brunch with the girls while Kate enjoyed the China state banquet, but they wore the same accessories. And while Charlotte got glam for Carrie's wedding, Kate has walked the red carpet in a nearly identical gown. We did the research and uncovered more times they made similar fashion moves, keeping sophistication in mind. Read on to see them all.

This Open Letter to Nordstrom on Why It Should Drop Ivanka Trump's Brand Is a Must-Read

If you're an avid user of social media, chances are you've scrolled past a post - or hundred - expressing negative views on Donald Trump. But now, one woman's opinion is going viral. In an open letter format, Twitter user @shewhovotes wrote to Nordstrom, asking the store to stop selling the presidential candidate's daughter's brand, Ivanka Trump.

While the writer first expresses her love for Nordstrom, revealing that she's a "Level 4 cardholder" and even used to work as a vendor in stores, things quickly take a sour turn. "I find myself increasingly conflicted about supporting a store that carries any Trump brands," @shewhovotes says, stating that Ivanka continues to support her father's hate speech and sexual assault allegations, while Nordstrom continues to support Ivanka.

However, it's not only Donald that has @shewhovotes fired up. She also cites (literally) the fact that Ivanka's company refuses to provide maternity leave for women workers, has people working in sweatshop conditions, and that the brand also violated the copyright of Aquazzura. The letter was posted along with the hashtag #grabyourwallets and urged people to share.

Ivanka got her chance to respond to everything on Good Morning America, when George Stephanopoulos asked what she's like to say to the women boycotting her brand. "The beauty of America is people can do what they like, but I prefer to talk to the millions, tens of millions of American women who are inspired by the brand and the message that I've created," Ivanka said. "I never politicized that message. People who are seeking to politicize it because they may disagree with the politics of my father, there's nothing I can do to change that."

This New Challenge Is Putting More Black-Owned Beauty Brands on the Map

There have been plenty of fun beauty challenges surfacing on YouTube recently. But a recent YouTube challenge is encouraging beauty personalities to use their platform to promote one with a deeper meaning.

YouTube vloggers and makeup pros Alissa Ashley and Alyssa Forever teamed up to create the B.O.M.B. Challenge. B.O.M.B., which is an acronym for Black Owned Makeup Brands, is a challenge created to encourage the YouTube beauty community to bring more awareness to underrated black-owned cosmetics brands. The duo tagged other YouTubers, asking that they create a full makeup look using products from black-owned cosmetics lines.

Jackie Aina was among the beauty experts to take the B.O.M.B Challenge. She prefaced her video by letting her nearly 800,000 followers know the objective of her tutorial and the overall challenge. She continued to express that though the purpose of the B.O.M.B movement is to spotlight black-owned makeup lines, it is far from an exclusive challenge. In fact, many of the brands used in the tutorial carry products with hues that flatter a diverse range of complexions, making them suitable for people of all races. Examples in the tutorial include Coloured Raine Cosmetics, Lena Lashes, and Shea Moisture (but you can find the complete list in her link description box).

Jackie encouraged her followers and fellow YouTubers to take Alissa and Alyssa's challenge in hopes of spreading awareness to these underrated brands and their offerings. "If you can slather 100 different highlighters on your face, I don't see how far-fetched it is to ask someone who is not black to support black-owned beauty brands," she declared to her followers. She went on to use the high-pigment, high-quality products, creating a gorgeous Summer-approved makeup look boasting glitzy emerald eyes and a peach-pink pout.

In an industry where so many black women are still not catered to by major brands, it excites us to see YouTubers like like Alissa, Alyssa, and Jackie using their platforms to truly make the beauty industry a more inclusive and diverse place. Hopefully the efforts of the B.O.M.B. challenge will encourage makeup-lovers of all races to step outside of their comfort zone and embrace lesser-known beauty companies. If you'd like to get a head start on your own B.O.M.B. challenge, start by checking out some products created by these inspiring black women.

No Star Has Ever Pulled a Style Switch-Up Like Selena Gomez

It takes a lot of confidence to completely revamp your look, especially when you're in the public eye. Selena Gomez knows a thing or two about that. The performer has managed to successfully define her style from the street to the red carpet to the stage, but as they say, "it takes a village." Selena credits much of her transformation to stylist Kate Young, who she began working with in 2015 while promoting her Revival tour.

Before that, she developed a relationship with Louis Vuitton designer Nicolas Ghesquière, and he's dressed her for many events. Selena has become a face of the brand, repping her favorite fashion house at the Met Gala and beyond. In 22 photos, you can see how she's held onto her sex appeal but embraced sophistication, all while managing to keep her feet firmly planted on the ground. Of course, it helps when you're rocking Louis Vuitton's sturdy platform boots.

You're Going to Want to Scream After Trying to Solve This Math Problem

Whether you're a math pro or someone who stays away from it as much as possible, you're going to want to try and figure out this problem.

Posted on Facebook by Nejib Tej on Aug. 17, the problem has more than 92,000 reactions, 17,000 shares, and 689,000 comments. It might look simple at first, but has quickly divided people into three different answers: 21, 22, and the 40s. Try to solve it yourself.

Which answer did you arrive at? Hopefully, the answer 21. Here's how to break it down.

The first question, with the horses, will lead you to figuring out the each horse is worth 10. The next question is where it gets tricky. To arrive at the answer 18, each horseshoe is two. Since there are two horseshoes, that means the problem reads as 10 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 18. When you arrive at the next problem, you find that the boots are worth 1 each. So, this problem reads as (2+2) - (1+1) = 2.

Finally, the last problem should be 1 + 10 x 2. Before you start adding 1+10, remember the rules of PEMDAS, which states that multiplication needs to be done before any addition. This means you do 10 x 2 = 20 + 1 = 21. Ta-da! Take a breath - that was a lot to process.

The tricky part with this problem is that some people believe the horseshoes in the second problem are actually multiplied together - not added. So that problem would read as 10 + (2 x 2) + (2 x 2) = 18. So from now on, the horseshoes are 4. To arrive at the answer 2 in the next problem, that would make the boot 2. This would make the final problem 2 + 10 x 4 = 48 or 42, if you didn't follow PEMDAS.

The internet is of course severely upset and confused, but people on YouTube and Reddit are offering their explanations as to why the answer 21 is correct.

We hope that didn't drive you too crazy.

Whip Up Lea Michele's Lightened-Up Quesadilla When You're In The Mood For Mexican

If there's one thing we've learned about Lea Michele it's that her approach to eating healthy is simple and satisfying. During a recent Facebook Live discussion with Shape Magazine, Lea shared that she keeps her diet clean by stocking her home with wholesome eats. However, that doesn't stop her from enjoying her favorite comfort foods.

We caught up with Lea at the Shape Body Shop event in New York City and she shared that like most of us, she finds it hard to not indulge during the Fall. "I absolutely love soup in the Fall" she said. When I feel like indulging I definitely always have a bowl of soup with grilled cheese. You cannot go wrong with that combination."

Lea revealed that she tries to maintain regular healthy eating habits, but she doesn't believe that you have to completely cut off foods you typically enjoy. "I always try to ask myself how I can take something I really love and make it healthy. When I want something on the healthier side I always go for a quesadilla."

Lea's go-to quesadilla recipe is also supereasy to whip up at home (even if you're vegan!). Instead of packing up on meat and cheese, she opts for a ton of veggies in a gluten-free or spinach tortilla, topped with vegan cheese, salsa, and guacamole. "I love that you can fill quesadillas with anything and still feel full" she said. You also get that feeling of eating an authentic quesadilla, even if you make it with healthier ingredients, which is super important to me. So always find wholesome ways to enjoy your favorite comfort foods."

But the one flavor you won't catch Lea indulging in for Fall (or anytime soon)? Pumpkin spice. "I feel like the only girl in the world that hates pumpkin spice, but I just can't do it. I'm a black coffee kind of girl with no cream and no sugar. Not only is it too sweet but it just ends up hurting my teeth. However, if you give me cheesy-anything, I'll eat it like there's no tomorrow. I'm definitely a sucker for snacking on string cheese." Same, girl. Same.

9 Creative Themes (and Gift Ideas!) to Get You Through All 8 Nights of Hanukkah

Some kids who celebrate Hanukkah feel like they are missing out on a mountain of gifts, but it's really their parents who have it hard - they have to come up with exciting surprises for not one day but eight. Every family has their own traditions, but some balance out the presents by saving a "big" gift for a particular night while distributing smaller and more economical treats throughout the remaining days. In order to make the anticipation last, parents have to get creative, which can be draining - especially when kiddos aren't appreciative of sock night or other low-key days. One way to make the excitement last throughout the extended week is by coming up with a theme for the celebration and choosing eight gifts around that activity or fandom. Some parents might plan to spend less or more over the course of the week, so we've provided a variety of prices that can get you started and will surely please every little one on your list.

Jennifer Aniston's Favorite Fall Staple Is One You Might Have Given Up On

We've been watching Jennifer Aniston style tights since the '90s, when she worked them with mini skirts as Rachel Green on Friends. But fast-forward to 2016, and the actress still pulls them off IRL. Read on for Jen's best fashion moments in stockings, from the red carpet to date night, then pull out your own pair so you can re-create her sleek looks this Fall.

This Year's Fantasy Bra Was Actually Molded to Fit Jasmine Tookes's Body

While becoming an Angel is pretty neat, there's one honor that exceeds it in a Victoria's Secret model's eyes: wearing the Fantasy Bra. This year's jeweled design cost a whopping $3 million to make, so obviously only a special lady like Jasmine Tookes could wear it. While Jas just received her wings back in 2015 (along with the likes of Taylor Hill and Stella Maxwell), it's clear why she was chosen: she's superchill and fun to be around, sort of like your best girlfriend, and she was more than happy to talk about her new gig when we met up with her at brand's new Fifth Avenue flagship.

Scroll through for some little known VS Fashion Show facts, like how the bra was molded to Jasmine's body and why she's so tight with her fellow Angels. Then check out all the details we know about this year's runway event, which takes place in Paris.

The iPhone 7 AirPods Have Landed - Here's What You Need to Know

At Apple's highly anticipated event unveiling the upcoming iPhone 7, one product update in particular sparked a lot of conversation and near controversy. On Sept. 7, Apple CEO Tim Cook proclaimed the death of the iPhone headphone jack and traditional headphones as we know them.

In lieu of its usual headphones, Apple will introduce wireless ones referred to as AirPods. Below, we've listed what they are and how exactly they'll work.

  • Advanced sensors: The AirPods use advanced technology to detect when they're in your ear. If you'd like to pause whatever you're listening to, simply remove one or both of them. The sound will automatically resume once you put them back in.
  • Easier access to Siri: To access Siri, simply double-tap the AirPods. From there, Siri will also be able to control the volume of your music, check your battery life, or do anything else that would otherwise involve you touching your phone.
  • You'll be heard more clearly: AirPods use accelerometers to know when you're speaking on the phone and will filter out external noises to improve the sound and clarity of your voice.
  • Charging them is a nonnegotiable: Though they are meant to deliver five hours of listening time, the headphones do need to be charged by placing them back in the corresponding charging case. The charging case can emit 24 hours of charging time until it, too, needs to be charged.
  • They aren't cheap: The AirPods will retail for $159.
  • There is a way to hold onto your old headphones: If you're not interested in getting the AirPods, you can still use your old headphones with the adapter that will ship with the new iPhones. One end will connect to the lightning port and the other will have a headphone jack opening.

Unfortunately, the AirPods were supposed to arrive in late October. However, an Apple spokesperson told TechCrunch that the product isn't ready yet. "The early response to AirPods has been incredible," said an Apple spokesperson to TechCrunch. "We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers." Guess you'll need to keep waiting if you wanted a pair.

What the World's Most Realistic Fake Beef Burger Actually Tastes Like

When I had the chance to try the Beyond Burger, often touted as the world's most realistic faux-beef patty, I had my reservations. I've always been of the opinion that there are two kinds of vegetarians: those who still pine for meat and are always looking for ways to replicate it, and those who are kind of grossed out by it and don't really care about finding a substitute. I fall into the latter camp. Still, I wasn't going to pass up the chance at such an exclusive taste test. Beyond Burgers are currently only available for purchase at Whole Foods locations in 11 states, and when fast-casual vegan chain Veggie Grill rolls them out on its menu on Nov. 2, they will only be offered at the Hollywood, CA location where I got to try it. (It goes wide to all 28 Veggie Grill locations in December.)

The First Impression

On Tuesday night, my boyfriend and coworker - all three of us pescatarians - took seats at Veggie Grill's counter as a stream of servers started carrying wooden cutting boards topped with the undeniably good-looking burger and a side of fries out of the kitchen. I got my platter first, and while I waited to dig in, I absentmindedly grabbed at a little piece of charred "burger" that had fallen by the wayside. As the smoky, slightly burnt morsel hit my tongue, I froze. How was this not meat?

The Science of Beyond Meat

This is where the research and science behind the Beyond Burger and Beyond Meat, the company behind it, comes in. The hyperrealistic burger, which is built from a proprietary blend of pea protein, sunflower oil, and other ingredients, is intended to replicate the structure of actual meat: that fibrous, fatty, muscle tissue that gives beef its springy, dense, juicy texture. And it does a pretty damn good job of that. Beyond Meat has loftier goals, too. The company cites human health, climate change, animal welfare, and natural resources as issues it hopes to address through its faux-meat creations.

The Nutritional Benefits

Another obvious bonus? The Beyond Burger is healthier than your typical beef burger. It's got more protein and iron, less saturated fat, zero cholesterol, and no pesky antibiotics and hormones. It does clock in at about 3 calories more than a typical hamburger - 290 to beef's 287 - but in the grand scheme of things, that's a minuscule price to pay on the nutritional front. Beyond Meat isn't the only company in the imitation meat game, of course. Its most often-cited rival in the space is Impossible Meat, in which Bill Gates is an investor. The Impossible Burger just so happens to be served at a vegan restaurant just down the block from me, where it apparently often sells out, but I haven't yet tried it. (If I was a little squeamish about trying the Beyond Burger, then I am even more squeamish about the Impossible Burger, which made a synthetic cow blood from a molecule found in plants to replicate the juice of a beef patty. No thanks.)

The Verdict

As I took the first real bite of my burger, which was slathered in Veggie Grill's "secret" aioli, and topped with caramelized onions, melt-y vegan American cheese, ripe tomato, and a crunchy leaf of iceberg lettuce, I felt like I remembered what beef tasted like . . . even though it's been 20+ years since I ate it. It was like a nostalgia bomb went off in my mouth. The "meat" was chewy, dense, and pleasantly drippy with grease and "juice" (made from beets) like a real burger should be. And when I inspected the spot where I'd taken a bite, the slightly pink inside of the burger looked disturbingly, but impressively, just like meat.

My boyfriend wasn't as wholeheartedly impressed as I was with Beyond Burger's imitation; he thought the patty felt a little too thin, a little too factory-made to satisfy like a real hamburger. But my coworker and I both agreed that if we'd ordered a veggie burger at a regular restaurant and this had shown up on our plate, we'd certainly send it back, convinced the kitchen made a mistake and gave us the real thing instead. So, while the Beyond Burger might not completely satisfy a real hamburger-obsessed meat lover, it more than does the trick for vegetarians craving an animal- and earth-friendly way to enjoy an American classic. Coulda fooled me.

This Reality Star Opens Up About Her Miscarriage With a Heartbreaking Photo

From Stray Dog to Instagram Star: Popeye the Foodie's Heartwarming Success Story

Long before Popeye the Foodie discovered Instagram fame, or even a family to call his own, he was just a lonely stray dog wandering the streets of Los Angeles. His hu-mom detailed his rough beginnings to Bored Panda, describing him as "super skinny, heavily matted, (and) dirty" when she found him and brought him home. Initially, she didn't even intend to keep Popeye as her own. But sure enough, he worked his way into the hearts of his new humans and they didn't really have a choice but to make it official.

Thankfully, those horrible days as a stray pup are now long behind Popeye. He spends his time hopping between trendy, dog-friendly restaurants, 'gramming adorable snaps to his following of over 112,000 fans and counting. Although seated nicely in front of delicious foods, Popeye's mom reports he only gets nibbles of dog-friendly foods. And if all else on the menu fails, his mom carries a bag of treats for him, just "in case there's nothing he can have." Bon appétit, Popeye!

I Had Inexplicable, Incurable, Extreme Bloating For Almost a Year: Here's What Finally Fixed It

A lot of things changed when I moved to San Francisco. I was much colder. I bought my first real jacket. I tried Philz Coffee for the first time. I started a new job. And, out of nowhere, my stomach started ballooning arbitrarily throughout the week making me look three to six months pregnant at any given moment, for no apparent reason.

Things that didn't change: my diet, my exercise routine (OK, I started doing a lot more SoulCycle), and my overall health. I wasn't eating more food or less healthy food, so I knew it wasn't weight gain . . . especially when my pregnant-looking belly would mysteriously disappear by morning, and I was back to a flat stomach. But sometime during the day, I'd eat a peach or go to a cardio workout, and BAM: back to bloat. Biiiig bloat. I would snap photos to send to my mom (as you'll see below) because I couldn't believe what was happening to me, and I was horrified.

For 11 months, I wasn't comfortable with my body. I couldn't wear fitted clothing (aka, ALL of my activewear), because I knew at some point, my lower abdomen would jet out, and anyone who didn't know me would assume I was withchild. I've been so afraid to eat, because I knew that anything could trigger my stomach, from a piece of fruit to a sip of sports drink. Yet then there would be days when I said "eff it!" and ate Cinnamon Toast Crunch and milk, and nothing happened. It made absolutely no sense.

I've never felt more more ashamed of my appearance, or more uncomfortable in my own skin . . . and I'm even ashamed to admit that! My body simply didn't feel like mine. And the worst part was that it didn't seem like there was an explanation or end in sight.

I never intended for these photos to see the light of day, but this is what I looked like end-of-day versus the next morning. I know my room is a mess. This was truly only supposed to be for my mom (she's mad about the mess, too).

I saw so many doctors and went through so many labs; my initial appointment was to see if it was hormonal. It wasn't. I saw an OB-GYN. I had two ultrasounds. I tried the low-FODMAPS diet (it didn't go well). I had my blood tested for a thyroid imbalance. My doctors were stumped, and I was frustrated to the point of many angry tears.

For 11 months, I wasn't comfortable with my body . . . I've never felt more more ashamed of my appearance."

Two glimmers of hope seemed to come at once: my doctor referred me to a phenomenal GI, and one of my close friends referred me to an acupuncturist and naturopathic doctor here in the city. Although I had been through so many appointments and tests already with no results, I tried to remain optimistic. And these were still two avenues I hadn't tried!

First up was my acupuncture visit with Dr. Magnolia Ng of Advance Health SF, and then my GI appointment with gastroenterologist, Dr. Daniel Conlin. Two very different doctors from very different backgrounds seemed to know the source immediately: stress. It was the first time anyone had brought up the idea that something mental could trigger such a strong physical reaction, but they both seemed certain. Stress was the one factor that did come into play when I moved. Long-distance move to a new city, new job, new everything = one stressed out me. I didn't even notice because everything has been so go-go-go.

Dr. Conlin didn't cut any corners in his approach, and he didn't just write me off saying, "you're stressed, just calm down!" and send me on my way after collecting a copay. He tested my blood and breath for celiac, SIBO, h. pylori, IBD, and post-infection bacterial overgrowth (everything came back negative). He asked me to eliminate dairy, despite the fact that he didn't really think I was lactose intolerant. He went through so many avenues, but kept coming back to the idea that it was probably stress-induced. I asked him if I was a "freak case" or if he had seen this in other patients, and he said, "You're definitely not alone; I see this in many young women your age, typically high-achieving, A-type college grads who work here [in San Francisco] in some kind of fast-paced tech or startup company." It was like he read my bio. He knew. I knew. It was stress.

Exhibit B of the stress bloating and the next morning's mystical disappearance. I swear I'm not usually this messy.

What I appreciated most about Dr. Conlin was his approach to treatment. He said if it was a celiac or SIBO case, he'd have different recommendations, but for me, he thought acupuncture, charcoal tablets, ginger root and ginger tea, and specifically Align probiotics would be helpful in my treatment (he noted that it's the only brand he recommends, so I went with it). His openness to natural treatment despite coming from a Western background increased my trust in him, and made me more comfortable in my health journey.

It was hard to explain to family and friends that stress was causing arbitrary abdominal distention, so I wanted to learn more. Apparently, an influx of stress can upset the microbiome (the ecosystem of good and bad bacteria in your gut, which can influence nearly all areas of your health). I spoke with Amie Valpone, Align's nutritionist and founder of TheHealthyApple.com, who gave me some incredible insight as to what has been happening in my body. "Having too much non-beneficial bacteria in your gut has been linked to many health issues such as heart disease, fibromyalgia, eczema, asthma, depression, cancer, autoimmunity, allergies, obesity, autism and allergies," she said . . . and in my case, inexplicable abdominal distention.

"We are so caught up in our busy lives that we don't realize how stressed out we are - that's when the health issues start to appear out of nowhere."

"When our microbiome is out of balance from stress, we get an imbalance of non-beneficial bacteria such as yeasts, parasites and bad bacteria that take over and make us feel bloated, tired, and bring along a host of unwanted symptoms that range from person to person."

She went on to say that "change in diet, travel, processed foods and stress from work, our family, friends and so forth," can trigger this imbalance, but "we are so caught up in our busy lives that we don't realize how stressed out we are - that's when the health issues start to appear out of nowhere." It was amazing to hear those words of affirmation, because that's exactly what I had experienced. It was totally out of nowhere, and I truly had been so caught up in my busy life.

My gut was off thanks to stress, which caused the inexplicable bloating (that couldn't be attributed to anything I was eating) and the mission now was to use different natural remedies together to restore balance and get me out of a place of stress (that's a work in progress, honestly). "The goal is to address the underlying root cause of why your gut is imbalanced in the first place, instead of covering up your symptoms with a Band-Aid approach," said Amie. "That's where food, stress, mind-body practices, and probiotics come into play."

Dr. Ng had an additional approach to pair with my acupuncture treatments for both stress and energy blockages in my abdomen: Chinese herbs. She prescribed and gave me a bottle of Mu Xiang Shun Qi Pian, or "BloatEase," to take three times a day. "Emotional upset such as frustrations or worry, overwork, and a constitutional or genetic weakness can make a person prone to digestive disorders," she told me. The herbs and the acupuncture were intended to set things right again. She also mentioned to me the importance of using both traditional Eastern medicine in combination with Western medicine - and my recovery has been a testament to that.

The combination of treatment has been absolutely life changing for me. The Chinese herbs, probiotics, and acupuncture treatment (along with continuing to eat a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and staying on my workout schedule) has helped restore my body to it's natural shape. The bloating is going away, even though I still have to work on de-stressing. When it does happen, the bloating has decreased in size, severity, discomfort, and frequency, and I'm finally starting to feel comfortable with my body again.

What did I learn from all this? For one, Western and Eastern medicine aren't mutually exclusive, and in fact, when they're used together, they've got a symbiotic, 360 approach that can be even more effective than if either were used on their own.

I've also learned to advocate for my health. If you're not getting answers, don't give up. Make another appointment. Bug your doctor. Ask for another referral. Don't take no for an answer. The world of healthcare is freaking nuts and if you don't advocate for yourself, no one else will. I got pretty lucky in the way that my doctors were really helpful and responsive when I pushed, but I still had to jump through a lot of hoops to get the treatment I needed. Don't be intimidated, don't give up, and most of all, don't stress. A solution is out there for you, too.

These Pokémon Group Costume Ideas Are Cute and Worthy of a Pokédex Entry

Whether or not you're still someone playing Pokémon Go, you can't deny that your nostalgia for the game and show is at an all-time high. Make this Halloween the one where you live out your Team Rocket dreams with your BFFs or dress up as your favorite Pokémon. Look ahead for some inspiration and be the very best group costume there ever was.

The Kids You Meet While Trick-or-Treating

Parent or not, we all know that there are several distinct categories of kids who come a-calling on Halloween night. We've been those kids. But now that we are, ideally (see No. 8), past the age of going door to door in search of free candy, it's perhaps more important to accurately identify the costumed kiddos who'll be ringing our doorbells this year. Because all trick-or-treaters are not created equal (and because we've already sized up the moms you meet that night), read on to get to know the nine types of tots you'll be dealing with on Monday.

1. The Painfully Shy Kid

Traditions just aren't for everyone. And the act of tasking kids to go up to the homes of complete strangers - in the dark of night, no less - is in direct contradiction with most of the lessons we try to instill in them about safety. So, we really shouldn't be that impatient ("listen, kid, you rang my doorbell") when it takes 47 minutes to get a toddler to mumble "trick or treat" between shrieks and while clutching their own mask with white knuckles.

2. The Kid Who Isn't Even Wearing a Costume

We appreciate a last-minute attempt as much as the next scattered, overworked parent, but showing up with nary a wig or a shoddily constructed cardboard sign is just not cool. Often executed by unsupervised teens, at best this trick-or-treater will arrive with a dirty sheet over his head (ghost) or some toilet paper wrapped around her torso (mummy), but sometimes you just have to assume their costume of whatever clothes they happened to be wearing that day is "lazy high schooler."

3. The Kid Who Doesn't Obey the Honesty Policy

You really only see the blur of this grubby kid running away if you're going house-to-house with your own kid. You walk up the driveway of a home only to notice kids scrambling from the front door in every direction. When you get there, you see an empty bowl with a sign left by some oblivious, overly optimistic absentee homeowner, saying, "Halloween Candy! One piece per trick-or-treater!"

4. The Kid Who Just Grabbed all the Candy

Perhaps worse than the kid who unloads an entire basket of individually wrapped Twizzlers into their pillowcase sack from an unattended front porch is the one who does it in plain sight. After your first year handing out candy, you'll learn not to offer up the bowl (rookie mistake) but to instead place your predetermined allotment of candy directly into their bags.

5. The Elitist Kid

Halloween is the annual exception to the whole "beggars can't be choosers" adage. It's the one day that some ungrateful kid can bother you at home, ask for candy, and then have the gall to complain that those aren't full-sized chocolate bars or that "Smarties taste like chalk!" But, really, it's our own fault for letting kids know that every Oct. 31 they are entitled to free handouts and then expecting them to be satisfied with bargain-bin freebies.

6. The Kid Who Makes You Think You Want More Kids

After a slew of rapid mass-produced Spider-Men come barreling up and down your front porch, you hear your doorbell ring and open it to find the sweetest, most darling little child in the sweetest, most darling Etsy-caliber costume. With a toothless "twiiiick oh tweeeeat," your ovaries do a little shimmy, and you forget that the parents of said little child probably dealt with 179 temper tantrums in the time between when they started stitching that handmade garment and when they arrived at your door.

7. The Kid With That Mom

You thought you had your bases covered with your teal pumpkin and your non-candy alternatives for those kids with allergies, but then they arrive at your door. There's the kid, clearly embarrassed, alongside his mom, who is passive-aggressively staring at your candy bowl, whispering things like, "Remember what Mommy told you about trans fats?" whenever her kid grazes his hand over a bag of non-organic Skittles. You try to sneak him some Starbursts, but you know this poor sap's bag will be confiscated before he even makes it home.

8. The "Kid" Who's Too Old to Be Doing This

Does that child have a mustache . . . that isn't painted on? Didn't that girl serve you a cocktail at your "mom's night out" last weekend? Free candy is something that never gets old, sure, but there comes an age when you stop going door-to-door for it and start swiping it from your younger sibling's stash at the end of the night. And that age is definitely when you're on Fall break from college.

9. The Kid Who Was Literally Just Here

"Wow, there are a lot of kids dressed up as Ariel this year," you might think to yourself before you realize that's the same little mermaid that just approached your door a few minutes earlier. Either that kid is lost or they are effectively pulling one over on you.

Terminally Ill Mom Gets to See Her Son With Down Syndrome Score His First Touchdown

Debbie Heil is used to seeing her son Robby on the high school football field as the team's water boy, but during a special game last week, Robby - a senior who has Down syndrome - suited up to play on the field with his team. Debbie, who is terminally ill with bone cancer, wasn't expecting to see Robby make any plays, so the surprise his team and coach cooked up for her was enough to literally make her fall to her knees.

Robby's coach, Jeff Burnside, arranged a play just for Robby along with his team, the Wildcats, as well as the opposing local team. Robby would receive the ball in a handoff at the 30-yard line and make a run for it into the end zone as his mom, his biggest fan, watched from the sidelines. "I dropped to the ground, I was so emotional when I saw him make a touchdown," Debbie said. "I've always been proud of him as the water boy . . . but this is incredible. He's Rudy tonight."

31 Unique and Fun Fandom Mashup Costume Ideas

There are plenty of people out there (like me) who have an intense devotion for two different fandoms. For the most part, these fandoms are kept apart and there's not much crossover - except during Halloween. Thanks to the creative minds of people who cosplay during Comic-Con, you have plenty of inspiration to combine your favorite fandoms. Maybe you'll choose the R2-D2 Hello Kitty idea or the epic mashup of Charlie's Angels and Chewbacca. Either way, what you see ahead will be a great jumping-off point to come up with a fun, unique Halloween costume idea.

The Top 5 Mistakes Runners Make When Packing For an Out-of-Town Race

Whether you're going away for a 10K, your first marathon, or a triathlon, packing can be overwhelming and stressful, but Clif Bar's dietitian Marni Sumbal MS, RD, CSSD, LD/N - 11-time Ironman finisher, Ironman coach, and total expert on how to pack for an out-of-town race or event - has some solid tips for you. And by tips, we mean how to avoid total rookie mistakes that many of us have made in our early racing days (and might still make on occasion).

There's a fine line between packing enough and packing too much - Marni helps us figure out how to toe that line and pack for success. Traveling for a race is fun and exciting, so make sure packing woes don't put a damper on your experience.

  1. Mistake 1: Not Bringing Your Special Foods. "Not bringing along must-have food items is a huge mistake," said Marni. Relying on stores when you get there and "hoping to find [your special foods] locally, like a specific kind of nut butter, bread, cereal, etc.," is a risk you don't want to take for a big endurance event. Pack that stuff!
  2. Mistake 2: Not Making a List. The next big mistake? "Forgetting items!" said Marni. "Make a list so you don't forget, especially if you are rushed when packing." A good rule of thumb? Don't leave your packing to the last minute.
  3. Mistake 3: Not Bringing Extras. Marni says to always have backups of your go-to products, just in case. "Two pairs of run shoes, extra goggles, nutrition, etc."
  4. Mistake 4: Not Checking the Weather. Marni reminded us to always "check the weather ahead of time," saying that "even if weather says hot or cold, assume that the weather can change. Always bring extra gear for the 'just in case.'" So have your ideal race-day outfit and then a backup for another temperature (i.e., if your go-to is a tank and shorts, bring a long-sleeved tee and leggings).
  5. Mistake 5: Overpacking and Overwhelming Yourself. The last mistake was "bringing too much and feeling overwhelmed," she said. "Packing is stressful. Keep a list of items you use in training so that you don't overthink what you need for race day." Plus, no one wants to pay those oversized bag fees on an airplane, right? Pack extras of the basics and must haves, and ditch the rest.
