This Intense Workout Will Get You the Body You Want

Not every workout has to be a no-holds-barred sweat fest, but we're not going to lie: those days when you crush it at the gym are the ones that are going to help you see results fast. So pound that pre-workout shake, and take this hour-long workout with you the next time you want an effective workout.

The intense workout is one of The Biggest Loser: Australia trainer Michelle Bridges's secrets for burning calories fast, and it's not for beginners. This particular workout from Michelle's book, Total Body Transformation ($17), comes at weeks nine and 10 of her 12-week plan, so if you're new to the gym, then start off slow, modify, or try one of our beginner-friendly workouts instead. If you're up for a challenge, however, check out the workout below, learn the moves, print the workout, and get ready to burn calories and boost your metabolism.

To start, do a warmup: three minutes on the rowing machine, ending with a 500-meter (1/3-mile) sprint. Follow it up with 20 minutes on the treadmill (Michelle recommends 5 to 6 mph at 2 percent incline for 20 minutes or 10 minutes at 5 to 6 mph and 2 percent incline followed by 10 minutes at 3.5 mph at 12 percent incline.) Aim to get your heart rate up to 150 bpm by the end of your warmup. Then follow with these two circuits below, repeating each circuit three times. End with a cooldown stretch.

This workout is made for the gym, but you can modify any of these moves to suit the equipment you have at home (jog in place or use dumbbells in place of the barbell, for example).

Broken Heart? You Need Fitness - 5 Women Share Their Healing Stories

When I talked to running coach, ultramarathoner, and author of Shut Up and Run, Robin Arzon, she told us that she went through a devastating breakup the day before her first half marathon. It made us think of our own experiences dealing with heartbreak or hardship, and how fitness played a role in our healing.

"I think that movement is magic," said Robin. "I also believe that magic takes a lot of hustle, and there is so much power in movement, that it will absolutely transform you."

"Sometimes you literally just need to run through the chaos and somehow see it through on the other side. It seems like a cliché or hokey when you're just talking about it, but when you're experiencing it – that heartache - it is f***ing real. And you will cry, and you will somehow find physical power that translates into emotional fortitude."

"Not only did I get in the best shape of my life, but I healed myself and found a new ultimate passion."

Robin's advice? "I dare ANYONE going through emotional heartbreak or anything that is emotional . . . I dare you to sign up for a race that is physically challenging - a marathon, a 5K, whatever. Whatever seems daunting for you, sign up for it, and I guarantee the distraction will be welcome."

Some POPSUGAR editors have gone through a similar process, turning to exercise as a super healthy coping mechanism and distraction.

Jenny Sugar, Fitness Editor: "I was trying on wedding dresses, preparing for my big day 10 months away, when my fiance got major cold feet, told me not to order the dress, and called off the wedding. Right before my 27th birthday. We had been living together for five years and I had to cancel everything - the venue, the band, the photographer, the videographer, the florist - everything. I was broken inside, crying every day, not able to pull myself out of bed, or eat, or do anything but sob. I felt like my life was over. I was already teaching yoga and going to classes a couple times a week while we were together, and that was the one place I could go and just breathe and cry silent tears in Savasana. I fully immersed myself, going five or six times a week. Yoga brought me a newfound inner strength, a confidence and happiness I didn't know existed, and I got pretty strong physically, too. I'm a changed person, and at almost 40 years old, yoga is still a safe, comforting place for me that continues to be my therapy."

Ann-Marie Alcantara, Assistant Tech Editor: "I recently broke off a relationship that was pretty toxic and decided to go running one day. It was a nice change to run, and to feel happy from endorphins, instead of staying at home and feeling sad while watching Gilmore Girls. I decided to keep going with it, especially since I was an intern at the time, so it was a cheap enough exercise. Soon after, I signed up for a half-marathon and now I try to run whenever I can - especially if I'm feeling sad."

Quinn Keany, Assistant Celebrity Editor: "Throughout the last two years of college, I had an extremely toxic on-again, off-again relationship with someone. Few good things came out of our time together, with the exception of a very, very soft shirt that I very, very sneakily stole out of his closet, and a newfound love of running. Actually, "love" is a strong word. I hate the stitches I get in my side, gasping for breath, and how my face turns so red that I look like a giant, sweaty, lumbering tomato. Despite that, I discovered that running through the trails behind my college campus was therapeutic for me in ways that I didn't fully realize until much later. It was a way to physically release the emotions I'd gotten so used to bottling up, and gave me a place to be alone with my thoughts. I still prefer Netflix marathons to actual ones, but whenever I find myself upset or confused about something, going for a run always helps."

"You will cry, and you will somehow find physical power that translates into emotional fortitude."

Dominique Astorino, Assistant Fitness Editor: "Getting my heart broken may have been the best thing to ever happen to me, because I found an inner strength I didn't know existed. After going through the most devastating breakup of my life, I sank into a deep depression; I ended up turning to yoga any time I could get myself off the couch, and I'd stay at my studio for two or three classes on some days. I also started training for a half-marathon with one of my best friends, and it was the best distraction I could've had. With every step forward, every chaturanga push up, every inhale . . . I was crawling out of a dark hole, making myself a better person, and getting stronger - body and mind. Not only did I get in the best shape of my life, but I healed myself, found a new ultimate passion, and became a fitness writer in the process."

A 10-Year-Old Used Google Translate to Make Sure a New Student Didn't Eat Lunch Alone

Amanda Moore may be a young girl, but she has a heart and soul far beyond her years. When she saw Rafael, a new boy at school, sitting alone, she tried to talk to him but soon found out he did not understand English. She wanted to make him feel comfortable and welcome at school but did not know how to communicate with him, so she used Google Translate to write him a heartwarming letter. The letter reads, "Would you like to sit with me today? Look for me and I will show you where I sit. We can color or simply tell scary stories. Thank you for your time, signed Amanda."

Kimber Kinard was so moved by her 10-year-old's genuine act of kindness that she shared her story on Facebook. "God has blessed me with a kind child," she wrote alongside the video of Amanda reading out her letter. Moving to a new school can be incredibly difficult, especially when you don't speak the language, but Amanda did not want Rafael to be alone.

"She walked over and gave it to him, and he stared at Amanda and then he opened it up and was trying to read it," Kimber said. "When he finished reading it, his eyes were welling up with tears and then Amanda's eyes were welling up with tears. And then the whole class stood up and applauded. He stood up and he hugged her."

Amanda might not be able to communicate easily with Rafael, but it's moments like these that he will remember for the rest of his life. Parents on Facebook were amazed by Amanda's kind actions, and they bring up a very important point - compassion is something that should be praised as equally as intelligence, even on bumper stickers. Amanda, you go girl!

"Pink Eye" Makeup Is Trending on Instagram - and It's Absolutely Stunning!

Scroll through your Instagram feed (if you follow a lot of beauty bloggers!), and one thing should be apparent: pink eye is rampant! The Barbie-inspired eye color may seem unexpected for Fall (when dark colors usually reign supreme), but it's definitely a spreading movement. Think of it as a nod to October sunsets, Autumn leaves, and the flush you get from being in the cold air too long. We love it for holiday party makeup, a wedding look, or workwear.

"A playful and pretty pop of pink shadow can work to instantly brighten your look," Kelli J. Bartlett, Director of Makeup Artistry at Glamsquad, told POPSUGAR. "This trend has a youthful and energetic quality that can look dreamy or dramatic, depending on the shade and application you choose."

So let's talk about how to find the right pink so you look sick not sickly. In general, Bartlett believes all skin tones can rock a pink shadow, and the best way to find yours is trial and error. "When finding the right type of pink (cool or warm), you should consider your overall coloring (hair color, complexion, and eye color) as this will inform the type of pink that complements you best," she said. "Rich raspberries look amazing on deeper tones, while light blush can look gorgeous on fair skin."

She also has a hack if you're not ready to buy a pink palette, but still looking to experiment. "For those who aren't ready for hot pinky pink, pop your favorite blush color on your eye," she advised. "You can also test the trend by dabbing some of your favorite pink/peach lipstick (not the liquid matte kind though!) on your finger, and swiping it back and forth on your eyelid. Use your finger to buff the color into the brow bone. Try swatching on the back of your hand first to test its stain potential."

Now that you've found the right hue, make sure to wear it in a modern way. "This trend looks best when paired with minimal makeup and a lush lash," she said. "Complete your look by wearing a similar pink hue on your cheeks and lips. This is just the right amount of color-coordinating without appearing too matchy-matchy." Also: She suggests using a fluffy brush to dust a little shadow on your brow bone to give warmth to the look.

There is one place pink shadow should not go. "To avoid possibly looking sickly, focus on the upper eyelid only and steer clear of the lower waterline," she explained. "Applying on the lower lash line can make your eyelids look irritated."

What I Learned Watching My Mom Care For Her Own Mother

I was 10 years old when my grandfather passed away and my grandmother moved in. Before the tragedy of my grandfather's death, and the gift of living in the same house as my grandmother, she had been battling cancer. During that time, my mom split her days between raising her four children and nursing her own parent back to health.

For the next 13 years, my grandmother not only lived with us but was also actively involved in every aspect of our lives. She was a second mother, but I learned just as much from my grandmother's anecdotes and important life lessons as I did watching my mom dedicate her days to caring for my grandma's well-being - both physically and emotionally. My mom had to make difficult choices daily, feeling pulled in both directions as she tried to care for both her children and her own parent. These are the 11 major lessons I learned from it.

  1. You're never just a parent or just a child: As you progress from one stage of life to the next, you don't leave everything behind. Even as my mom became a mom herself, she was always a daughter first and wouldn't let her new role completely overshadow the fact that she was also someone's daughter.
  2. It doesn't matter if you're a stay-at-home mom or a working mom, there are always compromises: My mom had a full-time job as a nurse before stepping away from her career when she had kids. She had just gone back to work for the first time in 15 years as her youngest entered elementary school when my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer, followed a few years later by my grandfather's sudden death. From that point on, my grandmother moved in and my mom permanently walked away from her career in order to care for all of us. Even though she wasn't "working," she still constantly had to choose between her kids and her mom, make sacrifices over what events to miss in order to make doctor's appointments, and was always dealing with guilt about not being able to do it all.
  3. There's always something to be learned from your mom - at every stage of life: Everyone found my mom and grandmother hysterical because their natural form of communication was bickering. The older they got, the more similar they became until some strangers even mistook them for twins (much to my mom's horror). But through this friendship in their adult years, my mom always took my grandmother's thoughts and perspective into account. Despite being a grown women who was successfully raising four kids in her own right, she was still humble enough to recognize good advice, even when she didn't ask for it, and appreciate the value of a grandmother's experiences.

  4. Sometimes being a good child is when you don't put yours first: Some criticized my mom for putting her parent before herself or her family and constantly told her it was a choice they would never make. My mom did make an effort to prioritize my grandmother in the last years of her life and worked daily to make sure that she was supported, valued, and loved. Even if it meant that that we didn't have her undivided attention at all times of day, we gained something so much more: a strong moral code that doesn't turn your back on family.

  5. You go wherever you are needed most: Whether she was dealing with four kids or her mom, my mom's go-to motto was that she always goes where she is needed most. Like making a triage assessment, she learned early on that she can't be there for every person at the exact same time so she had to constantly reprioritize who needed her most at any given moment.

  6. A relationship with grandparents is one of the best things you can ever give your child: I didn't grow up with just one mother, I was raised with two. Although I always used to joke when my grandma was giving me a hard time that I wished I had the adoring grandparent who made me cookies and told me how perfect I was, I'm beyond grateful for all of her advice. I had a grandma who was completely involved in every aspect - including the bad - and wasn't afraid to tell me when I was wrong in order to help shape me into the person I've become.
  7. You might not always agree with someone but you always show respect: The generation that my grandma raised kids in was drastically different than the one my mom was raising us in. Many times my grandma didn't agree with or even understand the decisions my mom was making, but we were still taught to listen and show respect for her dissenting opinion and value her perspective.
  8. The time you spend with someone is more valuable than any gift or bouquet of flowers: From doctors' appointments and hospital stays to just helping pass the time playing cards, my mom was there for my grandma. While other loved ones sent a card on Mother's Day or stopped by with the occasional box of candy, I was able to see firsthand that time is way more precious than what you spend on someone.

  9. It isn't about what you cook, it's about who is around the table eating it: When she was raising kids, my grandmother would spend hours cooking dinner before setting the table for a nightly family meal. When she moved in, my mom carried on this tradition - only she despised cooking. But she still worked to ensure that we always had a family dinner every night, even if it came from Costco's prepared food section.
  10. Find a spouse who not only supports you but also supports your extended family: When my grandmother moved in, it didn't just affect my mom or us kids, but it also changed my dad's day-to-day life. He put her first, just like my mom did.

  11. The world doesn't revolve around you - and that's a good thing: My mom and my grandmother's relationship showed us kids that life doesn't center around the children in the house. It was just as important to help when was needed as kids and do things for others - including spending a Saturday night watching black-and-white movies instead of going out with friends in order to cheer someone up who we loved the most in this world.

If you're wondering how he was able to pull off the realistic look, the awesome dad reveals that it took a lot of strategic planning. The lightweight costume was made out of one-inch styrofoam, and for the eyes, he cut out the shape and then replaced the open space with a white screen for his son to see out of.

"Everything blue is paint and the red on the helmet is paint," he revealed, adding, "the front of the costume is actually a vinyl decal, not paint." This guy deserves to win a dad of the year contest for his creativity and efforts put into this amazing costume!

This Makeup Artist's Comic Book Transformations Will Make Your Skin Crawl

Canadian makeup artist Lianne Moseley has recently received widespread attention for her terrifyingly true-to-life renderings of famous comic book, video game, and pop culture characters. Moseley frequently models her own creations on Instagram, however, she also offers her services to other cosplayers.

Though the makeup artist is skilled at painting comic book sirens, her villainous characters are particularly chilling. (Seriously - we might have a hard time sleeping after seeing her Joker impersonation.) While it might be difficult to re-create Lianne's advanced work this Halloween, consider it a jumping-off point for your own costume. Look ahead for some of our favorites.

Meet the Yogurt That Blows Greek Yogurt Out of the Water; Dr. Oz Weighs In

While Dr. Oz's last food investigation may have crushed our fast-food oatmeal dreams and the one before that made us second-guess our too-good-to-be-true addictive rotisserie chicken, we're actually really excited about the good news coming from the health show.

In his latest deep dive into the foods we consider healthy, Dr. Oz takes a closer look at Greek yogurt. The findings? All positive! He notes that benefits from Greek-style yogurt include an improved immune system, a digestion boost, and a better mood - so load up the yogurt!

After looking into brands like Chobani, Fage, Oikos by Danon, Simply Balanced, Wallaby Organics, and Stonyfield Organics, Dr. Oz found "great news" that each brand passed with "flying colors," and they each contain 200 million to 300 million CFUs of live active cultures per gram of yogurt (CFU = "colony forming units"; it's how probiotics are measured).

Where you get into sticky territory is with flavored yogurts - all of which they found to have tons of sugar, which turns an otherwise low-carb, high-protein snack into a very high-carb, high-protein snack. Their suggestion? "Eat plain Greek yogurt" and add in sliced fresh fruit, or put some honey in yourself so you know it's "not synthetic" and you can control the amount.

But wait - Dr. Oz didn't just tout the benefits of Greek yogurt, he also showed off the new yogurt that may leave its Greek cousin in the dust thanks to a whopping "25 percent more protein." The new ultra-high-protein snack to look out for? Icelandic.

"Icelandic yogurt is to Greek yogurt as Greek yogurt is to regular yogurt," said Dr. Oz's expert Mark Schatzker. "It's like the ultimate strained yogurt . . . it's just really creamy and really rich. It's a very satisfying yogurt. If you like Greek yogurt, you're going to love this stuff."

So there you have it - get your servings of plain Greek yogurt, and keep an eye out for the delicious and healthy Icelandic variety, too.

Beware: This Vampire Cat Is So Cute, You're Guaranteed to Fall Under His Spell

Sunlight and silver won't ward off the snuggles of this adorable vampire – but we don't know how you'd resist his little face! This handsome vamp-kitty is actually just an affectionate shelter rescue with "fangs" named Mamba. He also writes on his website that he responds to the name Nosferpawtu. (We see what you did there, little guy.)

Mamba is a self-described "romantic with an overbite", so if the whole internet famous vampire thing doesn't work out, he's got a solid Tinder bio regardless. By the looks of his burgeoning "fang club" on Instagram, we don't think a backup plan will be necessary.

Happy Halloween, Mamba!

Just When You Thought You Were the Healthiest Person You Knew

Kale in your smoothies? Obviously. Because you're a completely all-natural, almost-obsessive health nut, through and through. But would you try licking a mountain or hooking an actual fish IV up to your veins for your daily dose of omega-3s? Oh, these two people would. They're in a battle to see who's the healthiest and it's looking like they've both completely lost it! But in the end, they won each other.

5 Disney Villain Costumes That Prove Bad Girls Have More Fun (With Makeup!)

Although I love a good Disney princess, they tend to rock the #nomakeupmakeup look. The Disney villains, however, are on top of their makeup game. Red lips, sharp contouring, and arched brows run rampant in the villain world, and I can't say I don't approve. It just seems the villains of the Disney universe have more fun and are certainly craftier with their makeup brushes.

When it comes to Halloween, take the opportunity to pull out your brightest eye shadows, most reflective highlighter, and pigmented lipsticks and go to work transforming yourself into someone completely different: a Disney villain.

Puma's Self-Lacing Sneakers Are Giving Nike's a Run For Their Money

On the heels of Nike's announcement about its HyperAdapt 1.0 sneakers, Puma has finally revealed its own self-lacing sneakers, the Autodiscs. The brand previewed the self-lacing sneakers in 2015 when Usain Bolt tried them on in a Twitter video, however, information about the shoes had been pretty scarce until now.

Engadget got an exclusive look at the kicks and answered everyone's main question: how exactly do they work? Well, the Autodiscs have neat, built-in motors hidden in the tongue of the sneakers. The motor is triggered with the push of a button that then loosens or tightens the hidden laces inside of the shoe.

What's more, the owner's preferred tightness can be saved on the shoe's corresponding smartphone app. To charge your Autodiscs, simply place them on their special charging mat.

While we're already sold, sadly, the Autodiscs aren't officially available. According to Engadget, only 50 pairs have been made and Puma has yet to announce when they will be open to the public . . . and for how much.

You Won't Believe the Wedding Dress Switcheroo That Jamie Chung Made on Her Wedding Day

Don't get us wrong, Jamie Chung's silk and tulle Monique Lhuillier wedding gown was gorgeous. With its sheer sleeves and ice-like embroidery, you could argue the star was channeling Queen Elsa on her special day. After all, she and Bryan Greenberg did tie the knot on Halloween eve. But the fashionista couldn't bear to part with a different dress: a high-neck Jonathan Simkhai number that took a modern Victorian silhouette

Jamie and Bryan's ceremony and reception were featured in Martha Stewart Wedding's Spring issue, and that's where Ms. Chung revealed her smart little trick: she posed for photos in Jonathan Simkhai alongside her bridesmaids, who wore coordinated Privacy Please maxis, then Jamie switched into her whimsical Monique number. And for the party? Back to JS.

The Absolute Sweetest Halloween Costumes Belong to a Group of Babies in the NICU

Last Halloween churned out tons of sweet costumes, from a baby pope to celebrity-kid Jedis, but the absolute best we saw came from an unlikely place: the NICU at Loyola Medicine.

Although a family's time in the NICU may not be the easiest, the nursing staff at this hospital definitely gave the families of these babies something to smile about this time last year. These pint-size patients were dressed with care in handcrafted costumes - including a jar of JIF peanut butter and a Chicago Bulls basketball player - by the nurses for the annual NICU Halloween costume contest, and they couldn't have looked any cuter.
