20 Snaps That Prove Style Is in the Olsen Family's DNA

There's no doubt the Olsen twins are known for their success in fashion, wearing and designing their own covetable labels like The Row and Elizabeth and James. When the duo steps out, we always take note of their outfits and lately, we've counted one more Olsen sister, Elizabeth, into the mix.

The youngest the trio has appeared in editorial spreads for Nylon and blockbuster hits like Captain America: Civil War. Like Mary-Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth not only has acting chops, but she's also a full-fledged fashion girl. She sits front row at Fashion Week, attends the MET Gala annually, and like her sisters, has a similarly chic aesthetic - though Elizabeth's style is more playful and feminine. While she does coordinate with her sisters, usually in black, on the red carpet (it's more fun!), when she's on her own, her personal style shines through.

Read on for 20 snaps of Elizabeth that prove excellent style runs in the Olsen family.

Rare GIF of a Dying Star Will Make You Rethink Your Existence

The Hubble Telescope recently celebrated its 26th birthday, and in those years it has given us an incredible look at the vast world we live in. Case in point: a rare peek at a dying star.

From 2002 to 2006, Hubble captured close-up images of an enormous star named V838 Moncerotis, which sits 20,000 light-years away from Earth. Back then, the star emitted a powerful flash of light that illuminated the dust and gas that surrounded it.

"Hubble's exceptionally sharp focus of V838 Mon offered a ring-side seat at the slow death of the star and excited astrophysicists with the chance to study the physics of the light, matter and microscopic dust of the interstellar medium," writes The Conversation, which offers more details about the life of the star and the cause of that light flash.

Below you can see a time-lapse video of the photos taken by the Hubble. Looks fake, doesn't it?

12 Things You Do That Your Childless Friends Hate

Attention, fellow well-meaning moms: if you're anything like me, you've noticed that since becoming a parent, it's not always easy maintaining friendships with your nonmom pals.

Sure, we can blame our single girlfriends for always choosing a night out over being our plus-one to Saturday morning story time, and we can certainly fault our kids for putting an albeit-adorable damper on our social lives, but what if the real problem was . . . us? Because we're so engrossed in diaper duty and sleep schedules, we likely don't realize that we as parents might be doing things that drive the baby-free adults among us bonkers. So, before we get defriended on Facebook or - worse - in real life, let's take a moment to stop committing these obnoxious mommy acts.

9 Outfits That Never Go Out of Style

With every runway and every new trend, I'm less enthused with what's in my own closet. It's more than an occupational hazard, and a common sentiment many women share: how to make our wardrobes functional and stylish each day so that we're never the victims of "I have nothing to wear" syndrome again. The answer I'm finding isn't always in stocking your closet with new stuff but in remembering the value of great essentials - and how to work them time and time again. So I'm going back to basics with nine timeless outfits you can rework and rewear any way you like. It starts here with a few easy formulas; just add and subtract to make them your own.

How Having a (Much) Younger Sibling Changed My Life

When we were kids, my little sister Madison and I were the M&Ms - my parents' duo of daughters. We were the only kids among friends and family since my parents got married and had the two of us before age 30. As sisters we received a lot of attention, and we liked it that way. So it was quite a surprise when my mom and dad sat us down to let us know that baby number three was on the way; I was 10 years old. To say the least, my sister and I were a little perplexed at the thought of some new baby coming to town and turning our world upside down. Little did I know that this new baby would change my life forever.

As soon as my brother Mac was born, he completely stole my heart. Even at almost 11 years old, I created a bond with this tiny little baby that most people don't get to experience until they are much older. It's been almost 12 years since Mac was born, so I've learned a few things from having a young brother. Here's my case for spread-out siblings:

  1. You learn about responsibility early on. Having an infant in your life means watching your parents endlessly change diapers, make bottles, and wipe spit-up. Every once in awhile, I was allowed to do those things (under parental supervision), and I learned just how important it was to take care of this little life before I even hit middle school. Needless to say, I was an excellent babysitter.
  2. You watch a child grow up. I remember the first time Mac crawled, walked, and said my name. I remember how excited my family was when we discovered how fast of a reader he was in kindergarten. I'll never forget telling him bedtime stories before he went to sleep at night, and I especially won't forget when he told me about his first "girlfriend" last year when he started middle school. I'm watching this kid grow up into a man - well, more like a prepubescent tween - but you get the picture. It's cool to think about the entirety of his life and how far he has come. I have been able to experience that.
  3. You stay in the know. Most 20-somethings don't know what the heck Minecraft is. I didn't, either, until my hip, tech-savvy brother told me about the video game. And that's not the first thing he's told me about. I work in a trend-driven editorial environment, and my brother still manages to find out things before me. Good thing he has no problem telling me that I actually don't know about anything cool at all.
  4. You teach your sibling life lessons. From a young age, my brother watched my sister and me overcome personal challenges, go to high school, and, worst of all, get our hearts broken. Nothing makes Mac more upset than a mean guy who hurts a girl's feelings. We joke that Mac is going to be the best husband ever when he grows up, but he really will be. Watching his sisters go through life's tribulations has taught him how he should act when he gets older.
  5. You create an incredible bond. I have no shame in telling people that one of my best friends is an 11-year-old boy. Now that I don't live with my family anymore, I feel this incredible guilt if I go too long without seeing my siblings. When the three of us are together, it's pretty much the best time ever. Even though Mac and I are aged so far apart, we have this assurance of trust and understanding between us. He looks up to me and knows he can tell me everything; I look to him for comic relief and a really good hug when I arrive back home.

So if that doesn't convince you that siblings with big age gaps are a good thing, I don't know what will. All I can say is that my family wouldn't be the same without Mac. In fact, our family without him is unimaginable. So thanks, Mom and Dad, for turning the M&Ms into the Three Musketeers.

3 Ways the "Magical Fruit" Can Help You Lose Weight

Beans may be known mostly for their unpleasant odiferous side effect when eaten, but beans are actually nutritious little gems. If you follow these tips, you can eat beans without the bloat, which means you can reap these weight-loss benefits. Here are three reasons to plate-up with beans.

Hello, Fiber!

While the fiber content of beans helps keep things moving, it also gives you that "I'm full" feeling. Satiating your hunger is the key to preventing overeating and consuming too many calories for the day. But you don't just need to eat a plate of plain beans; in fact, you can add beans to smoothies - you won't be able to taste them at all. Or throw them in your scrambled eggs, add them to soups, pasta dishes, or as a topping on homemade pizza.

Protein Punch

Beans aren't just for vegetarians. Omnivores can soak up bean protein as well. High-protein beans help keep energy and blood-sugar levels stable, which helps prevent cravings for sugary pick-me-ups that tend to be high in calories and void of nutrition. Since a couple hours between meals tends to be common crash times, including beans for breakfast and lunch will keep you peppy until your next meal. Whip up a sweet potato, chickpea, and quinoa veggie burger, a plate of polenta with beans, or a satisfying bowl of slow cooker chickpea coconut curry.

Smart Snacking

When trying to beat the scale, you need to make sure that you're eating quality foods low in calories and high in nutrition. Beans make perfect snacks too, so look beyond the typical carrot sticks and hummus pick-me-up and try pairing your fruit with this chocolate hummus. You can snack on honey-roasted cinnamon chickpeas, veggies with creamy white-bean dip, or these delicious edamame pear crostinis. You can also enjoy a low-cal dessert with fortified with beans, like these peanut butter oatmeal raisin cookies or black bean brownies.

This 20th Century Fox Flute Meme Costume Is the Internet's Dream Come True

Turning epic soundtracks into perfectly awful re-creations is an art that the internet has perfected over the course of the past decade, resulting in several hilarious viral videos and a new genre of memes. The most iconic of this internet movement is the "20th Century Fox Bad Flute" video, which is widely beloved on YouTube and Reddit. We never expected somebody to turn this viral video into their Halloween costume, but one Redditor made it his mission to capture everything that makes the meme so great into one wearable getup . . . with musical accompaniment, of course!

According to the costume creator himself, the best part about the costume is that it becomes more successful when it looks and sounds bad, so he didn't have to try very hard.

Genius! Which viral video do you want to see as a costume next?

The Viral Story of an Abandoned Dog Found in a Garbage Bag Will Make Your Heart Cry

Malissa Sergent Lewis was driving through her hometown of Harlan, KY when she noticed a black garbage bag moving along the side of the road. Curious, Lewis went to inspect the bag only to find an abandoned puppy inside of it. Though the puppy had a collar, it didn't have a tag.

In an interview with The Dodo, Lewis explained the unexpected and horrifying discovery. "I could hardly wrap my mind around that," she said. "Something was alive in that bag, and I just knew I had to get whatever it was out." As one might imagine, the dog was relieved to be found. "As soon as I opened it up, and he saw light, he just started wagging his tail. He knew he was OK," she said.

Lewis has yet to figure out the circumstances surrounding the dog's abandonment, but investigators are reportedly looking into it. Lewis did share the miraculous story on Facebook in a series of videos that have gone viral with close to 20,000 shares. Accompanying the videos is a caption that states, "If this is your puppy, let me know. If you are the scoundrel who put it in a garbage bag and tossed it on the side of the road . . . you're a sicko."

Lewis is currently trying to find a permanent home for the dog, but she will continue to foster it until that happens. Perhaps one of those 20,0000 viewers might be interested?

Learn How Lauren's HIIT Schedule Helped Her Go From a Size 14 to a 4

Our next Before & After success story, Lauren, turned years of yo-yo dieting into a lifestyle that works. "I have struggled with my weight my whole life," she says on her blog, My Best Badi. "By the time I reached high school I was 6 feet tall and over 220 pounds. . . . For the next eight years I tried every diet and diet food out. I lost 40 lbs, gained 15 back. I lost 55 pounds, gained 25 back. It was a vicious cycle and ended up with me being back at 204 pounds on the eve of 2012. I was in bed, sick, and depressed." One New Year's resolution and a lot of determination later, Lauren is a healthy living role model. Check out her inspiring story below!

Lauren: Before

POPSUGAR: What made you decide to start?

Lauren Rabadi: I hated the yo-yo dieting. I would go up and down in weight frequently and I knew it couldn't be healthy. So on New Year's Day 2012 I gave myself a goal to be lean and fit and healthy by July. And I did accomplish the goal by educating myself on proper nutrition, realizing that weights were not the enemy, and keeping consistent!

PS: What's your favorite way to work out?

LR: I love Spin class. It is great for high-energy, calorie-torching sessions.

PS: What's your weekly exercise schedule?

LR: I try to work out four to five times a week; I split up my week with two or three HIIT cardio sessions and three to four weight/resistance training [sessions].

Lauren: Before

PS: How do you keep workouts exciting?

LR: Always change it up! I am a very active Pinterest user and like to pin different workouts to try every week. I also like trying out bodyweight exercises before hopping in the shower first thing in the morning; definitely makes you feel accomplished and more awake!

PS: How much weight have you lost?

LR: Sixty-five pounds and have kept it off for two years!

Lauren: After

Lauren after (left)

PS: What was the first big difference, other than the number on the scale, that really made you feel proud and excited?

LR: The first time I saw muscle definition in my legs and stomach (my biggest trouble zones) was amazing. I was so happy and proud that I took calf selfies.

PS: How do you track your weight loss?

LR: I used to track it by weighing in, but that eventually became tiring and frustrating. Now I just tell by how my clothes fit and taking progress pictures.

PS: What's a typical day of meals and snacks?

LR: I prefer making my meals and snacks instead of purchasing. My day starts with black coffee and a mix of berries, yogurt, and oats. Lunch is usually a salad or wrap with a protein and tons of veggies. Dinner, which I usually eat later in the evening because of my schedule, is a lean protein with veggies and a carb (either a sweet potato, quinoa, rice, etc.). My snacks are whenever needed and consist of fruit, protein shakes, or homemade energy bites.

PS: What's the range of calories you eat per day?

LR: I don't count them, but I believe they are usually around 1,500 to 2,000 calories depending on how hungry I am or how hard my workouts are.

PS: What are the healthy staples that are always in your fridge?

LR: Almond milk, oats, chia seeds, chicken, Ezekiel bread, protein powder, and eggs. They are all so versatile and can be used for meals, snacks, and shakes.

Lauren: After

Lauren after (middle)

PS: How do you strategize for meals out?

LR: I usually check out the menu online to see what options are there. I go for items with the keywords like baked, grilled, or steamed. Another trick is if you want something a bit heavier like pasta, ask for a half order or just for half your order to come out to the table. Usually restaurants will have no problem accommodating easy special requests.

PS: What advice do you have for anyone starting out on a weight-loss journey?

LR: Set manageable goals for yourself and no matter what, don't give up. I was definitely in the mind-set early on that if I didn't lose 10 pounds in a month or if I wasn't dropping dress sizes every week that what I was doing wasn't working and I would give up and have to start all over again. It takes time and patience, and even if you don't see immediate results, eating healthy and exercising is working; just stick around long enough to start seeing the results!

The Benefits of a Mason Jar Baby Bottle Will Honestly Shock You

To say that mason jars, once used solely by farmers and home canners, are everywhere would be a gross understatement. Thanks to Pinterest, they're now ubiquitous at weddings (particularly those located inside a barn), restaurants, and high-end home goods stores. Walk into any hipster's house, and you're sure to see one being used as a terrarium.

Despite their overwhelming reach, we just never expected they'd also find a much smaller demographic: babies.

Laura and Sebastian Belmar, parents who sought a nonplastic alternative to baby bottles but found safer glass ones to be prohibitively expensive, decided to create a prototype of a nontoxic baby bottle using a mason jar.

But before you assume that this is just another gimmick to steal money away from DIY-loving hipsters, the Mason Bottle - which won't go into production until the couple's Kickstarter campaign raises $25,000 - really does serve many surprising time-saving (and cost-effective!) purposes for new parents.

  • The wide mouth of mason jars makes them easy to clean, without the need for special bottle brushes or pipe cleaners.
  • Because mason jars are temperature-resistant, extra breast milk can be stored in the same bottle you used to serve the baby - in both the fridge and freezer.
  • Breastfeeding parents won't have to deal with plastic milk storage bags that are messy, prone to leaking, and single use.
  • The width of the jars makes them a natural fit for a baby's hands.
  • Parents who already own mason jars - which happen to come in the standard four-ounce and eight-ounce bottle sizes - only need to purchase the nipples!
  • The nipple can invert into the jar for easy storage and sterile transport so that you don't even need a cap, which makes the bottle completely plastic-free.
  • When the jars are done serving as baby bottles, they can be repurposed into containers for baby food or as sippy cups.

Or, of course, for your holiday centerpiece, or to make candleholders, or as a cocktail shaker, or to mix salads, or for . . .

One Awesome Dad Just Won Halloween With This Amazing Lego Costume For His Son

Spent 2 months making Lego Spiderman, my son won first place at his contest from pics

One dad wanted to make sure his kid stood out this Halloween. The proud father, Reddit user fivetreoh, says he created this epic Lego costume to do the trick. He spent two months working on the costume, which landed his son first place in a costume contest along with a $25 gift card.

If you're wondering how he was able to pull off the realistic look, the awesome dad reveals that it took a lot of strategic planning. The lightweight costume was made out of one-inch styrofoam, and for the eyes, he cut out the shape and then replaced the open space with a white screen for his son to see out of.

"Everything blue is paint and the red on the helmet is paint," he revealed, adding, "the front of the costume is actually a vinyl decal, not paint." This guy deserves to win a dad of the year contest for his creativity and efforts put into this amazing costume!

Why These Parents Posted a Horrifying Video of Their Child Being Silently Strangled

Ten years after accidentally capturing their child's near-death experience on a family video, Nicky and Nate Walla are hoping that their son's horrifying experience can save the lives of others.

Gavin Walla was just 7 years old when his mom was filming his twin brothers playing in their stroller at their home in Wisconsin. As she was recording, she turned around to grab the phone, and when she turned back around, Nicky found an unimaginable sight: Gavin hanging motionlessly with their blinds' pull cord wrapped around his neck.

The disturbing video captures Nicky's screams as she drops the camera and calls 911 as Gavin's father resuscitates his son. While Gavin and his family consider themselves the lucky ones - and industry standards have changed to ensure that no cord is longer than 7.25 inches, which is too short to strangle a child - the Walla family still wants parents to be aware of the "silent killer" that could be in their home.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, over 100 children have died in window-blinds-cord accidents since Gavin's chilling experience. "I'm glad it's out there," Gavin, now 17, said. "It saved the lives of other children that have been fortunate enough to have parents who have seen the video."

This Boy's Innocently Sarcastic Homework Answer Will Crack You Up

When we were in school, one plus one equaled two, and you didn't need to explain how you figured it out. That being said, you may have noticed that it's getting harder and harder for children to complete their homework assignments - and for their parents to help them - because many of the curriculum standards in schools these days are, well, kind of bananas.

One young boy has had enough and is rebelling against the times with his latest homework assignment, in which he was asked to "show his thinking" to explain how he got an answer - the correct answer - to a math question. Rather than write out the math that he was clearly able to do in his head, he draws a sarcastic - though likely innocent - picture of himself scratching his head, with a thought bubble containing the answer.

I mean, technically he's not wrong . . .

A Husband Made a Lego Dress Out of 12,000 Pieces, and the Result Is NUTS

If you think you've seen the biggest Lego fan ever, think again. A very talented husband and devotee of Legos made a dress and purse out of a whopping 12,000 pieces.

The mastermind behind the two creations is Brian D'Agostine, also knows as Dag's Bricks in the Lego community. He created the "Little Black Dress" for Bricks Cascade, a yearly Lego convention and exposition. At this event, adult fans of Legos (AFoL) came together to show their own creations as well as build fun, unique Lego objects. For D'Agostine, it meant using 12,000 pieces to make an epic two-part dress.

As D'Agostine strolled around the event with his wife, they were constantly asked if it was actually Legos - and if it was comfortable (the verdict is that it's "relatively" comfortable). Their most popular fans were teen girls, older women, and a few men who were extremely courteous. "Many of the guys were reasonable enough to ask first before snapping photos or feeling the dress," D'Agostine said. To top it all, D'Agostine made a Lego bow tie, belt, and glasses to match.

For now, the two don't have any plans to show off the dress nationally. It might appear in a local shop and Lego store, but no other requests have been made. Check out the photos of the dress and bow tie ensemble - they'll astound you.
