This Easy Formula Is the Key to Weight-Loss Success
The 80/20 principle is no diet - it's a lifestyle change that can lead to sustainable weight loss. Folks who have suffered on rigid, limiting diets in the past find that this new rule teaches them about balance and moderation, a concept that never exists in a fad diet. When you practice 80/20, you have the space to go out socially and enjoy a meal (or a cocktail!) with friends, but most importantly, it makes the whole clean-living thing feel doable for the long run.
The breakdown is simple: 80 percent of the time you focus on eating clean, good-for-you foods, and 20 percent of the time you have the freedom to indulge as you please. Don't be concerned about the math, but it's simple: if you eat three square meals a day, three of those meals every week are your 20 percent cheat meals; if you eat five small meals a day, then seven of those small meals are up for grabs.
If you're worried about loosening the reins, look to Hollywood for 80/20 success stories. When we spoke to Jessica Alba's trainer Yumi Lee, Yumi credited the 80/20 rule when it came to Jessica's ability to maintain her healthy weight. She explains, "You can't be 100 percent all of the time, but you can be 80 percent all of the time." Yumi recommends small, frequent meals throughout the day, aiming to make healthy choices 80 percent of the time.
Supermodel Miranda Kerr has also explained how the 80/20 rule has done wonders for her relationship with food. Without guilt or conditions placed on meal choices, Miranda says, "Food is my friend, and consistency is the key. I believe that everything in moderation is best." We could not agree more.
At Google, Women Are Leaving Emotional and Empowering Post-It Notes to Each Other
"You are amazing." "Love wins." "Ok Ladies, now let's get in formation." These different quotes appeared on a handful of post-it notes in a women's bathroom at Google's office in San Francisco, where women are choosing to support and empower each other in the wake of the election results.
The post-it notes, which appeared on Nov. 11 and are all anonymous, vary in what they say but the message is clear: women are offering support to each other in a time when they might need it the most. Many of the women who are posting photos of the post-it notes are writing captions about how thankful they are to work at a company where this could and is happening.
Google has yet to comment publicly about Donald Trump winning the election and what it might mean for the company. However, it's clear that internally, some women at the company are ready to champion each other.
Look ahead for some of the post-it notes ahead and maybe it'll inspire you to do the same at your office.

Nichole Used This Instead of Motivation to Lose 25 Pounds in 5 Months
When Nichole decided it was time to change her life, she knew it had to be something that would last. No more diets. No more quick fixes. And more importantly, no more excuses. She teamed up with Ricki, founder of Break the Weight, lost a total of 25 pounds in five months, and credits her coach for being on her team.
Before
Ricki explains, "People come to Break the Weight for weight loss, but quickly learn that it's not about the weight. It's about what that weight represents. It's about breaking what weighs them down. Nichole had a lot weighing her down and didn't need another diet. She needed a program that would teach her how to deal with what the real issues were, like the loss of her mother when she was 28, and not feeling good enough to make a real change.
Break the weight teaches people the power of consistency, accountability, and self-discipline. Breakers (that's what clients are called) are taught that it's not just about calories or focusing on the food, it's about understanding that motivation ebbs and flows.
Nichole said, "This program has been different for me, because it's truly not a diet; it's my life and you can't give up on your life. I've gained a sense of confidence by being consistent and not just depending on being motivated. You're held accountable to follow a simple daily system. You're held accountable to stick to your goals. You're held accountable to push through even on the really crappy days, that's huge. That teaches you discipline."
"I've gained a sense of confidence by being consistent and not just depending on being motivated."
Nichole has spent the last 20 weeks following a daily system of food tracking, drinking water, and walking a certain amount of steps a day. But says the most important part has been the "daily accountability and constant support."
She goes on to explain that transforming her relationship with food through Break the Weight has played a huge roll in her success. Nichole realized that "Food is not the enemy. Alcohol is not the enemy. The problem was what I was doing with it, eating and drinking excessively. The problem was and is the choices that I make. Once I started being more mindful, it was actually a lot less stressful. Choices came much more naturally to me. Ricki taught me that I was in the drivers seat."

What does a typical day of eating look like for you?
Breakfast: 2-egg omelet with Ezekiel toast
Lunch: Really big salad with protein or a chicken breast with a carb
Snacks: Lots of fruit, lots of almonds, and string cheese throughout the day
Dinner: Dinner varies, but I love turkey tacos, chicken, and sweet potatoes. Anything healthy! But BTW has taught me that it's about the amount you eat at night, that's what really matters. I also love wine! I have that a few times a week, but I'm smart about it.
Drinks: 2 liters of water everyday, which is a requirement on the program
"Ricki has built a program that pushes you outside your comfort zone. She encourages you while also holding you to a higher standard. Her excitement about my success along the way has made me believe in myself in a totally different way. People need that. I needed that. It's changed my life."

Wondering What Happens to King Ezekiel in The Walking Dead's Comics?
We've only just met the charismatic King Ezekiel on The Walking Dead, but he's already made a pretty huge impression. In the second episode of season seven, Carol and Morgan meet the leader at a new community called the Kingdom. This settlement is a little more rose-tinted than Rick's Alexandria or Negan's Sanctuary. In fact, Carol insists Ezekiel is selling his people a fairy tale. But as we know in the universe of The Walking Dead, nothing stays pristine for too long. If you can't wait to see what becomes of the show's newest addition, we're outlining everything that happens in The Walking Dead comic books.
Now, we know from this week's episode that King Ezekiel is well acquainted with the Saviors. In fact, he's already participating in Negan's infamous "arrangement," where his men come and take a share of nearby groups' supplies on a frequent basis. In the comic books, King Ezekiel becomes romantically entangled with Michonne. He also teams up with Rick and the members of the Hilltop community to take Negan and the Saviors down. Together, they launch a massive attack on the Saviors' main compound, but they're quickly overwhelmed by Negan's men. After the attack, Ezekiel attempts to overtake another Savior compound and tragically loses Shiva to a hoard of walkers.
As the casualties pile up in the brutal war with the Saviors, Ezekiel loses his footing as a leader. He spirals into a depression. He eventually recovers in time to help everyone fight off the Saviors when they attack Hilltop. This is the last big battle between all the groups once Negan is finally taken into custody. King Ezekiel returns home to the Kingdom, and Michonne goes along with him.
So, how does King Ezekiel meet his tragic end? At one point, Michonne leaves him, and upon hearing that her feelings for him are still there, Ezekiel goes after her. Ezekiel eventually encounters Alpha, the leader of a terrifying new group called the Whisperers. Alpha decapitates Ezekiel and puts his head on a wooden stake. He's later discovered by Rick and the rest of the group.
As a side note, the Whisperers might be coming to the show sooner than we think. They're actually pretty far off in terms of the comics, but as we've learned, the show sometimes does things differently. Diehard fans were quick to call out the connection when the show's official Instagram posted a snap of a severed head on a stake just before the season seven premiere. What's more, doesn't the snap look eerily like the frame of Ezekiel's head in the comics?!
If you thought that was the end of Ezekiel's nightmare, there's just a bit more. Perhaps the most tragic part is that Ezekiel's head reanimates while it's on the stake. So, when everyone encounters him, his head has become that of a walker's. Michonne, overwhelmed with emotion, can't bring herself to finish him off. So, Andrea (who's still alive in the comics) steps forward and does it instead. So, there you have it! King Ezekiel may be selling a fairy tale now, but there's a high chance his death will be just as bleak as the rest of the apocalypse.

The 1 Part of the Turkey You're Still Afraid of and Shouldn't Be
Image Source: Linda Pugliese / Martha Stewart
What the heck are turkey giblets? It's the term used to describe the neck, liver, heart, and gizzard (digestive organ), all of which are edible when cooked and often found in stock, gravy, or stuffing. My boyfriend calls them "the part of the turkey you get to deal with or else I'll barf," and my co-worker when referring to them says, "They make me queasy and squeamish. I don't want to touch them without gloves on." I'm not going to lie; I too feel all these feelings.
These reactions to organs we don't normally cook with are natural. I can't tell you how many Thanksgivings I've looked the other way, fished for the bag-o'-giblets inside the turkey's cavity, and screamed as I launched them into a trash bag. There's a lot of fear and uncertainty around giblets. In an effort to dispel any hesitation to cook with giblets, here's a basic rundown of what you need to know about them. And, if you're wanting to dive head first into uncomfortable cooking territory and expand your culinary palate, here's how to easily use them in Thanksgiving recipes.
When to Take Those Giblets Out
You can keep the giblets inside the cavity when defrosting the turkey. If you plan on brining the turkey, be sure to remove the giblets first.
What to Do About Giblet Blood
Some giblets are packaged in a plastic bag, while others are in wax paper. If your giblets are in wax paper and they've left a pool of blood in the turkey cavity, have no fear! Remove the giblets first, then stuff the cavity with a bunch of paper towels to absorb up any blood and/or residual moisture. This won't affect the flavor of your turkey or compromise the food safety.
What Happens If You Cook the Giblets in the Turkey
It occurs to people more often than not! If the giblets are wrapped in wax paper, the turkey is safe to eat, as long as it comes to the correct temperature. However, if the giblets are wrapped in a plastic bag, the plastic may have leached into the turkey meat, and unfortunately, you may need to toss the turkey.

How to Make Giblets Tasty
All right, are you ready to cook the whole fowl? Here are some basic ways to incorporate the giblets into your Thanksgiving dishes.
- Turkey neck: Use it to make a flavorful turkey stock to be used in gravy and leftover turkey soup. The meat can be pulled off the bone too!
- Liver: Sauté it (in bacon grease or butter), chop it finely, and incorporate it into your stuffing or dressing to add an earthy flavor.
- Heart and gizzard: Martha Stewart's giblet gravy calls for boiling the heart and gizzard in water to make a stock for pan gravy. Once the gravy is fully prepared, chop the boiled giblets and stir the pieces back in.
There you have it. Giblets add earthiness and savory richness to Thanksgiving dishes. Try them out this year; you may be surprised.
Axl Duhamel Might Just Be Avatar's Cutest Fan
Fergie and Josh Duhamel may have one of the cutest kids in Hollywood. On Friday night, Josh took his son to the new Avatar-inspired Cirque du Soleil show in LA, but it was little Axl who ended up stealing the spotlight. Not only did Axl look adorable in a camo button-up shirt and jeans, but as he posed for pictures with one of the characters, Axl growled and threw up his claws, making for some incredibly sweet moments. Josh also got in on the fun and snapped a few shots with the cast, although judging by the look on Axl's face, the 3-year-old clearly had the better night.
20 Burritos You'll Devour as Soon as They're Ready
There's something so satisfying about munching on a burrito. It could be the fact that it's a better version of a delicious sandwich that basically involves no mess - how wonderful is it that any and all overflow goes into the tinfoil surrounding the tortilla? - or maybe it's that its well-seasoned insides are usually cheesy and so incredibly filling. Either way, it doesn't matter. Whatever it is, it keeps us coming back for more.
And because we can't get enough of burritos (California, Tex-Mex, traditional - we love them all), we've rounded up 20 recipes that'll keep our addiction going strong. Keep scrolling to find those irresistible options.

A New Apple Rumor Suggests a Jet White Option Is Coming to the iPhone
If the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are the top of your holiday wish list, you might want to reconsider it. A new rumor is suggesting that Apple will add a "Jet White" color to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
The rumor comes from Japanese blog Macotakara, a source that's usually reliable on Apple leaks and rumors. However, in this case, the post is short and does not include any other details other than saying the jet white option information comes from "supplier parties." The addition of a new color would also not "follow the traditional cycle of Apple product releases," reports 9to5Mac.
Like all Apple rumors, take this one lightly and decide for yourself whether it's worth waiting to see if it rumor comes true.

But the Internet is a vast and potentially scary place, and it's our duty to protect our families. As nice as it would be if those privacy settings were a sufficient barrier, there are still caveats to every safety net that we have to be conscious of. Here, five times that parents should hold off on sharing their kids' snaps with the Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter-verse.

Kate Middleton and Prince William Honor Fallen Soldiers Ahead of Remembrance Sunday
Following her solo outing in London last week, Kate Middleton attended the British Legion's Festival of Remembrance with Prince William at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday. The royal couple was joined by Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and the duke of Edinburgh, and sported red poppies as a symbol of remembrance and hope. The annual event takes place every year before Remembrance Sunday to honor fallen soldiers and raise money for the Armed Forces community.
Unfortunately, Prince Harry wasn't in attendance this time around, but earlier in the day, he was spotted at a rugby match between England and South Africa with Princess Charlene of Monaco. The young royal will also be embarking on a 14-day Caribbean tour later this month, so we can expect to see more of him in the weeks to come.

This Elder Wand Theory Will Have You Questioning Everything You Thought You Knew
Harry Potter fans know one of the most rewarding perks of rereading the series on the regular are the new details you discover each time. If you're really lucky, you might just discover something mind-blowing. This is what happened to Reddit user Wmdonovan23 as they reread Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and found that the elder wand might've belonged to Voldemort - not Dumbledore.
Here's how this theory explains the process of how the elder wand changes ownership. In the books, the elder wand changes ownership by conquering the previous owner. With this logic, it's clear how Draco became the owner of the elder wand, since he disarmed Dumbledore. However, the alternative theory traces the elder wand's roots back to when Grindelwald stole the wand from Gregorovitch. In that scene, Grindelwald merely steals the wand and attempts to stun Gregorovitch. So if you follow the logic of elder wand ownership, this means that Grindelwald was never really the true master of the elder wand and neither was Dumbledore, after he defeated him.
So who is the true owner? Voldemort, of course! Voldemort found Gregorovitch, killed him, and became the new master of the elder wand. But as Reddit user Wmdonovan23 states, the wand never worked properly for him because he was "less of a wizard," considering three of his horcruxes were already destroyed at this point. He was still the true owner.
The end result is the same. Harry ends up becoming the true master because he did defeat Voldemort and overpowered him - not because he stole the wand from Draco Malfoy. Convinced yet?
This theory was fiercely debated years before on a forum called Science Fiction and Fantasy. One user named Julian brought up the same questions in 2012 - and users here decided that the laws around ownership of the elder wand are very different. The elder wand simply responds to the more powerful wizard who takes the wand - no matter how it's done. So, even though Grindelwald stole the wand, Gregorovitch was still left without one, rendering him powerless and leaving the elder wand to declare allegiance to its new, more powerful owner, discussed user Manishearth. User Janoma chimed in to say that this idea still applies when Harry takes the wand from Draco, also leaving him powerless and making the elder wand choose Harry as its new owner.
J.K. Rowling has previously addressed this elder wand confusion, telling Today that, "To truly own the Elder Wand, which means to receive the full benefits, double-edged though it is, of all its power, you have to have conquered the previous owner." However, Rowling never addressed the ownership path before Dumbledore and Draco in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Pretty much, we're going to need Rowling to give us some answers STAT.

Zendaya Has a Clear Vision For Her Brand, and It Has Something to Do With Oprah
It's not too often that a child star successfully transitions into adulthood, poised, professional, and ready to take on the world. But that's exactly what Zendaya has done. While she's still a hit with the younger crowd thanks, in part, to her Disney roots, the actress is expanding her fanbase, as well as the "designer" part of her resume, by launching her very own clothing line and e-commerce site, Daya by Zendaya.
Expanding on her her first big fashion venture, shoes, every piece from the (mostly) gender fluid collection rings in under $158, and sizing ranges from 0-22. "That was, like, a no brainer or a deal breaker," she said, speaking about inclusivity with us during a roundtable interview. "That had to happen for me. I can't just talk the talk. I can't just say all this stuff about inclusivity and loving people and breaking barriers and actually not do it when it comes to my own stuff."
As for any advice she's received on her new gig, Zendaya admitted she went to the pros. "One thing that Dominco [of Dolce & Gabbana] told me was that it's for the people. What you do is for the poeple. It's not about you, it's about them. It's understanding the people, and that is the driving force behind it."
Zendaya clearly took every type of person into account when creating her oversize hoodies, ruffled dresses, and velvet jumpsuits. But she isn't forgetting about herself, especially when it comes to her career.
"I feel like my brand in general is just expanding," she revealed. "When I think of a brand I'd like to have in the future, I think of Oprah. She's able to do everything. She's also able to keep it so positive. There's always a layer of like, 'If Oprah says [it], it's trusted.' If she says it's the best latte, it's the best latte. It's a trusted brand, and it's something you feel comfortable [with]. There's also a level of empowerment and love and goodness behind it. Everyone feels like they are related to Oprah."
Scroll through to see every piece available on the Daya by Zendaya site. Then, be sure to check out the Zendaya app, which the star launched in conjunction with the collection.
1 Thing You Should Never Say to Your Child
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." When I was little that rhyme was the big, bad, powerful statement we used to ward off the vicious attacks of other kids.
That rhyme gave us power but didn't protect us from the sting of the words. It didn't stop the ugly words from sinking in and taking root. It didn't stop those words from becoming the way we saw ourselves or from imagining it was the way others saw us, too.
What got me thinking about this was a parent-child interaction I witnessed this week in the grocery store, and this conversation about basic needs for healthy relationships, in which a member named Nancy R. shared the thought that "The emotional hurt may be hidden from others, but it plays on your mind, heart, and soul."
If you remember the sting of mean words spoken to you as a child, why would you ever label your kids in ways that could be hurtful to them? I'm not talking about labels like "autistic" or "sensory seeking"; I'm talking about calling your child "sloppy," "liar," "stupid," "awful," etc.
Do parents who do this believe that labeling their child will change something about them or help correct a behavior? Can that ever work?
An "Awful" Boy
I was in line at the grocery store when I heard a mom very calmly and very firmly whisper to her son, "Are you an awful boy?" The little one tried to pull his body away from his mom, as if to escape the sting of his beloved mother's words, but he couldn't. He very sadly dropped his head and said, "Yes."
This little one's face told the whole story. It was obvious this was not the first time mom had said those words to him. You could literally see the effects of his mom's words being accepted by his emotional self. You could see the words becoming part of how he will define himself, now, and in the future - I am an awful person.
We've all read that parents need to separate the behavior from the child, that parents should tell a child that his behavior is awful, not that he is awful. I don't agree. I don't believe that children can distinguish between the two, not really.
Think of it this way. A group of little girls are playing. Trish looks at Suzie and says, "Suzie, your hair looks funny!" The other girls laugh. Does Suzie understand that she's just having a bad hair day, or does she translate that comment into "I'm ugly"?
I suppose she could have if her parents had coached her on how to respond, maybe by giving her a one-liner comeback like, "You think my hair is funny today, you should have seen it yesterday!" from Sally Ogden's book, Words Will Never Hurt Me: Helping Kids Handle Teasing, Bulling and Putdowns. But most kids can't deflect labels so skillfully. Labels become deeply rooted in how they see themselves and affect all future decisions about what they are and are not capable of.
Most of us remember the sting and impact of a peer's mean label. Imagine how much bigger the sting is when a parent labels.
When the one person a child sees as always being right, her beloved parent, labels her, she just accepts it and defines herself by it. The wound is so deep that it requires a great deal of reprogramming, if you will, to change it.
Why do we need to use harsh words at all? There are far better words to use - words that can actually motivate a child to change.
3 Questions That Improve Behavior
When your child behaves badly, try asking her if what she did was kind. Was it safe? Was it respectful? These three questions begin the process of change and teaching - without categorizing or labeling.
As an educator, a mom, a former child, and now an empowered adult, I implore you: stop labeling your child, even if the label accurately describes what he's done. Using words that motivate change will get you and your child where you want to go, faster.
