Hopes low that dinner with PM will lead to health deal
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the premiers will discuss the broad outline of a new health accord at a working dinner on Friday night, but multiple federal and provincial sources say it is unlikely to lead to a deal.
This Family Has a Real-Life Elf on the Shelf, and He's Cuter Than All of Ours
By now, your Elf on the Shelf has probably wreaked havoc on your home and made tons of reports back to Santa about your kid's behavior. Though your elf (read: you) may be getting a little tired - because honestly, how many places can he move around to in the same house? - the elf in the Lawrence home isn't even close to tiring out. Every single day, Rockwell the Elf pops up in a new place - like sitting atop the shower curtain rod or drinking maple syrup while lounging in the fruit bowl - but that's because he's no ordinary Elf on the Shelf. Rockwell is real.
Alan Lawrence, blogger at That Dad Blog and father of six, has created the most adorable Elf on the Shelf journey for his kids this year using his real-life 4-month-old son, Rockwell, as the elf (Alan is no stranger to crazy-cool photo shoots, as he created an entire series of photos in which his son Wil can fly). The family has never had an Elf on the Shelf before, but Alan says he was always intrigued by the idea.
. . . One day someone told us that Rockwell looked like an elf and the idea came to me. What if a real life elf came to live with us for the holidays, and how would I react in real life to having it show up to live with us?
Read through to see the pictures of Rockwell the Elf so far, and be sure to check Alan's blog, Instagram, and Facebook for more and more photos leading up to Christmas morning!

Kate's Wardrobe Evolution: From Middleton to Royal Mom
Not everything from Kate Middleton's single-girl wardrobe has made it into royal rotation, but there are a surprising number of items that have. Sure, the diamonds and designer pieces are built to last, but a simple jean skirt and high street labels have also made the grade. So what did she wear clubbing before she was married and later select for one of the most formal events in the royal calendar? And which slinky party dress has been spotted underneath a more conservative coat at a recent engagement? We've rounded up all the items that have worked just as well for both private citizen and public princess . . .
Did This 30-Second Ad Really Just Ruin Christmas?
We're just a few days out from Halloween, and already, Christmas has been ruined.
PayPal, the money-transferring website, has been taken to task for airing a UK holiday commercial that subtly suggests Santa Claus isn't real.
The 30-second ad features two young brothers who are concerned about Christmas being canceled, all because their parents haven't been coming home with large shopping bags in the weeks leading up to the holiday.
"I don't think we're getting any Christmas presents this year," one of the boys forlornly says. "Have you noticed how Mom and Dad have been around so much lately? Normally, this time of year, they're out shopping."
The premise might seem sweet enough - especially at the end, when the boys rush downstairs on Christmas morning to find a tree surrounded by beautifully wrapped boxes, a move made possible thanks to their parents' new online shopping habit.
But to others, it's a crime against the magic of Christmas - and Santa Claus in particular:
#PayPal new Christmas ad is a disgrace. Any child who can read will be asking questions about Santa straight away. #ruinthemagic
- Sarah O'Reilly (@SarahOReilly2) November 1, 2015
@PayPal thanks for spoiling the magic of xmas with the advert santa gets the gifts not mum&dad with PayPal think about it for young kids

PayPal advert ruining Santa Claus for kids since 2015.
- Samuel Ayton (@SamuelAyton) November 2, 2015
Shame on you #paypal for insinuating that parents buy the Christmas presents in your new advert.....we all know it's Santa
- Tina Ridley (@tinaridley20) November 1, 2015
@PayPal your new advert has just made my 5 year old ask if Santa is real. Thanks for that, idiots
- Martyn james (@Martynjames1981) November 1, 2015
And, our personal favorite:
Wait, is that PayPal ad saying it's not Santa that brings the Christmas presents? OMG, SPOILERS! *runs off sobbing*
- Christopher (@thetroublewith) November 1, 2015
What do you think - should PayPal apologize for its insensitivity, or do parents need to lighten up a little?

The Story of Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak May Be WAY Darker Than We Thought
For many Harry Potter fans, one of the most iconic parts of the entire series is the "Tale of the 3 Brothers," a supposed legend from The Tales of Beedle the Bard that has very real implications for Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The tale of Cadmus, Ignotus, and Antioch Peverell's quest to defy death turns out to be real, inspiring Lord Voldemort to seek out their famed possessions: three gifts from Death called the Deathly Hallows. Luckily for Harry, he already owns one (the invisibility cloak) as a distant descendant of the Peverell clan.
As intriguing as the story is, one Reddit user's dark theory about the Deathly Hallows adds another element of mystery to the Peverell legend.
The theory - which purports that perhaps the three brothers were necromancers summoning the dead - establishes the idea that the three hallows are bits of Death's own arsenal, intended to curse the men who strove to bridge the gap between life and death. The Elder Wand is a bit of Death itself, which can summon immediate death through the killing curse. The Resurrection Stone is part of the arch that holds the veil of Death. And the Cloak of Invisibility is a bit of the veil itself, the gateway through which the dead pass. Sound familiar?
Harry himself sees this archway of death with his own eyes, theorizes the Redditor, in the Department of Mysteries during Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He hears the whispers of the dead through the arch and witnesses his godfather Sirius pass from the side of the living over to the side of the dead. His possession of the invisibility cloak could explain why he is able to hear these whispers at all and why he is so intently drawn to the Veil of Death during his time in the Department of Mysteries. If he truly bridges the gap between life and death, it means that Harry isn't fully alive.
What do you think about this theory? Could Harry's ownership of the cloak mean that he bridges the gap between death and life? Let us know in the comments!

Forget the 80/20 Rule! This Trainer Says to Follow the 90/10 Rule to Lose Weight
If this is the year you've committed to finally losing weight and getting in shape, we asked trainer Autumn Calabrese, creator of the 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme fitness and nutrition programs, to share what she thinks is the number one way to finally reach your weight-loss goals.
"The number one thing people need to do to lose weight in 2017 is be consistent. You need to be consistent with your workouts, getting at least 30 minutes of exercise four to five days a week," she said. An easy way to get in the habit is to choose four or five specific days of the week, as well as one specific time, such as Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 6 a.m. Think of these as important appointments you've made with yourself that you cannot skip out on. The first two to three weeks will be the hardest, but once you're used to working out on the same days and times each week, it'll feel weird not to.

A Practical, Powerful Video on Stopping Emotional Eating
Autumn also said, "You also need to be consistent with your healthy eating. That doesn't mean you have to be perfect all the time but you do have to be on top of it. I like the 90/10 rule. I know a lot of people say 80/20, but if you're really trying to lose weight then 90 percent of the time you need to be eating healthy, clean food in the proper portions." Autumn says it's OK to splurge on one cheat meal once a week, but make sure it's a cheat meal, not an entire cheat day. "If you do these two things, work out and eat right consistently, you will lose weight and keep it off." Autumn reminds us that "being healthy is a journey, not a destination."

8 Common Ingredients Found in Israeli Skin Care Products
Walk around Tel Aviv, and you'll quickly realize that Israel is a bustling, fast-paced, savvy country full of creative people. Those on the prowl for beauty loot, specifically, may find themselves instantly enamored by streets lined with boutique spas, tiny skin care stores, fragrance counters, and high-quality, innovative products lining shelf after shelf.
"Israel is small, complex, and challenged," says Joanna Landau of Vibe Israel, a nonprofit that works to change the world's perception of the country. "Despite this, and to a certain degree, perhaps also as a result of this complexity, the culture breeds so much creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship."
Landau explains that Israel is the number one startup country in the world, with more startups per person than anywhere else. You can imagine, then, that there are some exciting and fascinating things happening everywhere, and that certainly extends into the beauty and skin care realm as well. To give you better insight into that innovation, we're focusing on some of the most commonly used ingredients in Israel skin care - such as pomegranate oil, dead sea salt, and calendula - that you might not have even considered using before. All the products included here today are made in Israel as well.

The Brazilian-American actress, who was born in Panama, was only 21 years old when the first film premiered in theaters in 2001.

10 Items No Fashion Girl Would Be Caught Dead Wearing in 2017
As Heidi Klum would say, "One day you're in, and the next day you're out." This could not ring more true for clothes we've worn and trends we've tried in 2016. So what exactly are we saying bye to this year? At the top of the list are black shoelace-style chokers and Stan Smiths - items every fashion girl, including us, sported in one Instagram snap or another. Our reasons for saying bye to the 10 items ahead are quite simple: the new year has inspired us to switch things up. The year 2017 may signify a new you, or at the very least, new clothes (let's toast to that).
Based on our own tastes and Spring '17 runway trends, we've compiled a list of items to retire next year. Whether you have been holding on to that jacket for far too many years or are sick of a particular trend, 2017 is the time to begin anew with your style. This Incredible Woman Has Adopted 35 Children, and Her Story Will Make You Sob
Christie Jameson is not your average 73-year-old woman. She doesn't spend her afternoons playing cards or hanging out with her friends. Over the last 30 years, Christie has adopted 35 children with her late husband, Alva, because, she says, "Nobody can ever be loved too much." Of the 35 children they adopted, 26 have special needs and 11 still live at home with her.
She thinks her desire to adopt began when she was just 12 years old, after finding out that her only sibling, 15-year-old Buddy, accidentally hung himself while playing on a rope. "He was such a sweet, outgoing brother - everybody loved him," the Utah-based mom recently told People. "It left a huge hole in my heart."
"We didn't go out looking for our family - most of them came to us, once the word got out that we would take the kids nobody else wanted," she said, going on to explain that after she and Alva had two children of their own, they felt they had room for more - a lot more.
Christie has cared for children with Down syndrome, spina bifida, and cerebral palsy and those who are deaf or blind. Some have been physically or sexually abused, and six have serious heart defects. "All kids deserve a real home of their own and I just couldn't bear the thought of my kids going into institutions," she said. "In my heart, I knew there was always room for one more. And I know there must be other people out there who would do the very same."
All of Christie's children went to school until they were 21, but she continues to motivate them every single day by teaching them the importance of learning, philanthropy, and being active. "Right now, they're crocheting caps to give to refugees in our community. They, more than anyone, know the importance of giving back."
Unfortunately, 12 of the children she's cared for have passed away due to their illnesses, but Christie feels so honored to have been their mother. "For the rest of their lives, I want my kids to be loved and cared for," Christie said. "They've done the same for me for my entire life. They've given me much more than I could ever give them."

6 Household Items That You Can Use to Treat Your Pets' Illnesses
It's that time of year again when all of us start to get sick with one thing or another, including our pets. But this year, we went in search of how to treat all these common ailments our pets deal with in a more natural way. Thanks to Dr. Babette Gladstein, more affectionately known as Babette the Vet, we now have new remedies in our arsenal. She provided us with six common household items that can be used next time your pet has a problem. Keep reading to see what they are and what they do!
- Garlic: Garlic can help boost your dogs immune system, and it can increase liver function. It is also a great way to treat worms and parasites.
- Diatomaceous earth: This all-natural product is made from tiny fossilized remains of tiny aquatic organisms. Diatomaceous earth helps to kill and keep parasites and viruses away.
- Apples: These fruits contains pectin, which aids in digestion. A few pieces a day will help keep things moving.
- Aloe vera: This has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, making it soothing to the skin. Try putting it on your pets' cuts for relief, but make sure they don't ingest any of it.
- Table salt: Mix it with water to treat paw pad infections. Soaking your pet's paws in a warm mixture of 1 cup salt and 1 gallon of water for 5-10 minutes will provide tremendous relief and draw out the infection.
- Apple cider vinegar: Dilute it to help to quiet mild ear infections and fungus. Soak a cotton ball with the mixture and gently clean the interior of the ear.

4 Things All Elf on the Shelf Haters Should Know
Like any trend, despite the frenzy of Elf on the Shelf-loving families, there are some who just aren't fans of the magical elves: to them, they are naughty, creepy, and a lot of unnecessary work. However, the Elf on the Shelf's creator, Chanda Bell, has something she wants these haters to know.
"It's one thing to say this elf is watching you and have it mold [your child's] behavior, but that is not at all the intent or how the stories are written," Chanda told POPSUGAR. "It's really about inviting your own friend from the North Pole to join your family and speaking to this bigger message about how when you are kind and when you do these good deeds, the elves need to report that too. That's really important for Santa because he needs to know that all these good things are happening."
If you're still not seeing the appeal of these tiny elves spending 30 days in your home, check out these four things that every skeptic needs to know before hating on this beloved tradition.
