5 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before I Started Running
When I first got into running, I experienced everything from painful blisters to chafing to unsupported bosoms - no wonder I hated it. I wish someone had sat me down and told me these basic tips and tricks to help smooth my transition from nonrunner to runner. If you're just starting out on your own journey pounding the pavement or treadmill belt, here are things you should know about running.
It Gets Easier
As with most things, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. To strengthen your muscles, acclimate your heart and lungs, and increase your endurance, run at least three times a week. Start off with a doable distance such as two miles. Once that distance feels good, gradually increase your mileage. The key is to move at a comfortable pace for a reasonable amount of time. If you do too much too soon, you could end up with an injury or a deep hatred for the sport.
You Don't Have to Wear Two Sports Bras
If you're well-endowed, running can be painful. I wore two sports bras for the longest time because I couldn't find one that prevented the uncomfortable bounce. A cheap cotton sports bra from Target just won't do. You might have to spend $50 or more, but it's worth it when you only have to wear one bra you trust.
Don't Skimp on Gear
For my first run, I picked up a $25 pair of sneaks and a pack of cheap cotton socks and wondered why I had screaming blisters. You don't need a ton of gear, but what you do need, you shouldn't skimp on. Spring for a trusty pair of well-fitting sneaks ($60-$120), a good pair of wicking socks ($10-$15), a super supportive sports bra ($30-$70), a seamless tank and long-sleeve to prevent chafing ($20-$40), and a lightweight pair of running shorts or tights to avoid wedgies ($20-$40). Technical gear specifically designed for running makes a huge difference and could make or break your new running career.

Amy explained that after being in the spotlight for so long and hearing such horrendous, degrading things about her appearance, "You build up a thicker skin from it and then you're like, 'wait a minute, no.'"
"I look in the mirror and I know who I am and I feel beautiful and I feel strong and sexy," she said, evoking a huge applause from the audience. "And the people online trolling [me] are in more pain that we can possibly imagine. For women of all ages there's no one too young or too old to understand. It never stops and it really has to be about knowing who you are . . . and every day I look in the mirror and I'm like, 'I can work with this b*tch,'" she added.

As you can see, there is to be no sitting in line as you wait to get inside. This seems like a reasonable request until you realize that some fans wait up to 10 hours for their moment in the Kylie pop-up shop. That blissful moment, by the way, is limited to a brief 20 minutes, during which you can only purchase up to three of each item. Did you want to buy an additional product after your 20 minutes have passed? Too freakin' bad: you'll have to go to the back of the line and start over.
But perhaps the most discomfiting aspect of the experience is saved for last. Racked shared that there are also no prices listed anywhere in the store, so you have no idea what you'll be spending until you get to the register. Unless you have a Kylie-sized bank account, that could get a little uncomfortable . . . we think we'll stick with shopping her online store for now!

Shay Mitchell on Gray Hair: "I Call Them Wisdom Hairs"
Though Pretty Little Liars may have come to an end, Shay Mitchell doesn't look like she's slowing down anytime soon. She's recently launched seven eye shadow palettes with Smashbox, designed her own jewelry line, and always looks effortlessly gorgeous and relatable in interviews. The 29-year-old star even admitted to getting a couple of gray hairs in an interview with People.
"I've definitely found a gray hair, probably like five of them," she told the magazine. "I call them wisdom hairs - more wisdom, great!"
The actress doesn't seem to mind the reminder that she's getting older; it's not a big deal. "I am getting older . . . I am happy. You know what that means? I have more experiences. You can't freak out about [gray hairs]. Plus if you don't like it, then dye your hair - no problem." She went on to reveal that personally, she plucks the gray hairs she finds straight out of her head. (Same, Shay, same.)
Her secret to her lustrous locks is surprisingly simple: coconut oil. "My mom was raised in the Philippines and that was her secret for beautiful hair, beautiful skin, that natural glow. So I like to use that in my hair and it really does work," she explained.
Shay's stance on aging is refreshing, and it's nice to hear that she just tries to enjoy her beauty routine: "My beauty philosophy is to have fun and not take it too seriously."

Adorable Baby Dressed as a Lion Came Face to Face With a Real Lion For an Amazing Exchange
When Cami Fanning took her 11-month-old godson to the zoo, he got the surprise of a lifetime - seeing the lions while dressed in a lion costume! Aryeh, which means lion in Hebrew, came face to face with the lions at Zoo Atlanta, where he interacted with his long-lost relatives. "It was a pretty cold day so when we first arrived, the lions weren't out yet," Fanning wrote on YouTube, describing the fateful experience. "We saw the rest of the animals and stopped by the lion exhibit on our way out, saw that the lions were out and put Aryeh in his costume, thinking we'd snap a picture of him with the lions in the background."
But once the lions noticed the baby cub behind the glass, they couldn't get enough of him. Watch the video above to see the incredible moment when Aryeh met the lions, totally cool, calm, and collected.

Urban Decay just revealed via Instagram that its prime and set collection is getting some new additions next year. Come January 2017 (available online and in stores at Sephora, Ulta, Macy's, and Urban Decay), expect five new Complexion Primers, each one created to target different skin concerns. The lineup includes primers called Bright & Tight, Urban Defense, Optical Illusion, Self-Adjusting, and De-Stick. It also appears that they will have color-correcting properties.
We've also learned that existing All Nighter, Chill, and De-Slick Setting spray are getting a makeover. Instead of their existing white-and-purple packaging, the cult favorites will be housed in a sleek black bottle with white script writing. Michelle Obama wore Naeem Khan to an event for the Congressional Black Caucus in September 2016.
Dressing the first lady of the United States was a dream come true for Indian-American designer Naeem Khan. Growing up in India, the now-58-year-old designer recalls flipping through his parents' issues of Life magazine and being captivated by photographs of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. "I thought, 'When I grow up I want to design like my father, and it would be amazing to design for the first lady,'" says Khan. "I didn't even know I would be in America. It was just a dream."
Michelle Obama made that dream come true. For the past eight years, Khan has been a favorite of hers, and she chose one of his creations for her first state dinner in 2009. "I was actually super shocked," he recalls. "The whole thing went viral."
After eight years, how does Khan think Michelle O stacks up to Jackie O, the fashion icon of his childhood? Read our interview below for his answer - and find out how he thinks the American fashion industry will approach the Trump administration.
POPSUGAR: How does Michelle Obama's style legacy compare to other iconic first ladies?
"The impressions she's made with fashion are far more impactful."
Naeem Khan: Michelle Obama is up there. She is more than Jackie Kennedy. I feel that Mrs. Obama had so many more resources than Jackie did. Jackie was wearing two designers, three designers. Mrs. Obama has access to the internet and more. The global power that she has and the impressions she's made with fashion are far more impactful than Jackie O. Jackie was confined to America, but what Michelle Obama did had a global impact. I just came back from Singapore, from Qatar, and I see how they react to her and her style. They love it.
PS: What is the process like when you're asked to design for the first lady?
NK: I interact with a stylist. I don't directly interact with her. You get a briefing as to what she wants. And she picks examples from the collection, but she leaves a lot up to you. She's not telling you how to design or what to design. She'll just tell you that it's tropical, not too many sleeves, long gown. But very general. She's not designing the dress.
You're not told where she's going or if she's going to wear it 100 percent. I've designed pieces that she has not worn.
PS: What impact did Michelle Obama have on the fashion industry?
She goes not for the name itself. She goes for what she likes. And that was so important. Look at some of the brands she wore. Like my brand. Not a lot of people had heard of me before. For her to chose my brand and to put me on this world stage and today what has happened to the brand is just crazy. And that is because of her. It's important how she has actually cultivated and put the designers in front.

PS: Of all your designs she wore these last eight years, which was your favorite?
NK: Definitely the state dinner dress. It left such a great impact on my mind, as did the joy it brought me. It was so perfect for the moment. The gold, the bangles, the scarf. It was just so impactful.
I also recall when she announced the top movie at the Oscars in 2013. It was such a huge surprise to people and she was wearing my dress.

PS: What will you miss when Michelle Obama leaves the White House?
NK: I will miss dressing her. I will miss her kindness. I will miss her genuineness. I will miss how, when meeting her, she's so normal and not pretentious. She's a kind human being and a smart human being. I will miss her love of American fashion and how passionate she is about it. It's going to be different.
PS: How will the fashion industry react to America's next first lady, Melania Trump?
"My loyalty lies to the first lady, Mrs. Obama."
NK: It's going to be a very conflicted, torn process. People are going to watch. People are going to see where they are going and how the world is reacting to them, because it's too early to tell what it's going to be. Right now we see how they are and the level of values is very different than the Obamas'. The fashion industry is super cautious at this point. Some people are taking very strong positions.
To me, I will wait and watch to see what happens. But I must say that my loyalty lies to the first lady, Mrs. Obama.

A Common Condiment You Should (but Probably Don't) Refrigerate
Imagine this scenario: you have just sat down to a beautiful plate of french toast and begin to pour sticky maple syrup over the stack, when out plops a funky black lump from the bottle. This picture-perfect moment is ruined, and you can't help but leap back from the table from shock and disgust. What the heck could be growing in the bottle?
This not-so-pleasant predicament actually happened to me, so I'm sharing my learnings with you. Maple syrup, as it turns out, should always be refrigerated upon opening, otherwise you could wind up with the situation I just described, with mold growing inside the bottle. Personally, I have never refrigerated any sugary syrups (agave, honey, brown rice syrup), so I can't believe I've lived this long not refrigerating maple syrup. While some claim you can scrape off the mold and boil the syrup to kill the remaining strands of bacteria, I prefer to live by the mantra "When in doubt, toss it out."

A Better Way to Freeze Bananas For Smoothies, Banana Bread, and More
Don't toss out those overripe bananas! With a couple minutes of prep work, they can be transformed into frozen nuggets of gold, perfect for smoothies. Here's the best way to do it:
- Start with overripe, spotty bananas (they have much more flavor).
- Peel all of the bananas.
- Slice them into 1- to 2-inch chunks. (Smaller pieces are much easier on your blender; even a high-powered blender, like a Vitamix, will have trouble breaking down a whole banana.)
- Arrange them in a single layer on a parchment- (or wax-paper-) lined rimmed sheet pan. Don't just toss the unfrozen chunks into a freezer-safe bag; if you do this, they'll freeze into a brick of banana chunks that'll need to be chipped apart before using.
- Once frozen, transfer to freezer-safe bags. We like to separate them into individual bags that hold just enough banana chunks for a smoothie, so there's no guesswork (or measuring needed) when you're tired and looking to blitz your way to breakfast. For our go-to smoothie recipe, that means 1 1/2 bananas, but many other recipes use less.
Armed with a freezer full of banana bags, you'll always be ready for rich, creamy smoothies, vegan banana "ice cream," banana bread, or oatmeal (heat the chunks in a microwave until thawed before using).

For many parents at St. Luke Hospital in Kansas City, MO, Christmas came early with the arrival of their newborns. Even though their babies are the best gift these parents will ever hold, a group of dedicated volunteers worked to give them a priceless surprise.
As families with infants in the neonatal intensive care unit prepare to spend their first holiday season in the hospital, nurses and dedicated March of Dimes volunteers collaborated to make this Christmas magical for all of those who are excited to celebrate their tiny presents. For the memorable day, staff dressed up 31 babies as precious gifts, complete with handmade hats, and also gave parents a special card that honored what a gift their little ones are this holiday season. Santa Claus then stopped by the NICU along with former NICU moms who are photographers to capture the heart-melting moment for parents to cherish.
"The holidays can be an especially emotional time for families in the NICU. Babies here are usually born premature or sick, and they may spend weeks or months growing healthy enough to go home," Michelle Manuel, a representative for St. Luke Hospital, said in a statement. "So providing these special families with an opportunity to celebrate the holidays in a memorable way allows them a sense of normalcy, and an opportunity to celebrate their babies' first milestones - even in the hospital - which is what every family wants to do!"

Is This New Subscription Service the Netflix of Beauty?
Marcia Kilgore is well-versed in launching revolutionary companies, but her newest venture may just change the beauty world forever.
The entrepreneur founded a string of household name brands - Bliss, FitFlop, Soap & Glory - before moving on to Beauty Pie, a new subscription service that calls itself "makeup without the markup."
The concept is simple, but genius: Kilgore works with the chemists and manufacturers behind prestige companies and has them create formulas for Beauty Pie. If you sign up for a $10/monthly (or $120/annually) subscription, you'll get access to these beauty products at factory price. For example, a Beauty Pie volumizing mascara would cost you $24 if you bought it without subscribing, but if you are a member, you'll only pay $2(!).
This concept was born out of her own work with beauty suppliers, which she missed after selling her last company. "I would get to leave with a huge bag of products to test, which was thrilling," Kilgore told POPSUGAR via email. "I would then stumble into a cosmetics shop in the airport or train station on my way home, and think, 'Whoa, I am glad I don't have to pay retail for my cosmetics!' There was this idea to make that thrilling 'kid in a candy store' feeling available to every woman."
Kilgore hopes that Beauty Pie will appeal to the beauty junkie who has a love of the deluxe, but is trying to cut back on how much they spend. She looked at brands like Everlane, Spotify, and Netflix for inspiration, which all offer transparent pricing and convenience.
Beauty Pie's transparent pricing comes from the lack of markup that goes into each product. Think about your favorite designer makeup brand: the sheer prestige behind the label is mostly to blame for the expensive cost. Meanwhile, the manufacturers behind that pricey item likely also produce drugstore makeup.
"Most brands do not have their own factories, but rather source their products from outside factories," Kilgore explained. "For example, Tesco sources from the same makeup factory as Charlotte Tilbury."
Another expensive characteristic of high-end cosmetics is the fancy packaging. "In a lot of cases, the packaging costs more than the product, and it isn't recyclable and it ends up in landfills," said Kilgore. Not so with Beauty Pie. The brand is taking luxury formulas from the best factories around the world and then packaging them in minimalist but chic tubes.
"We are trying to minimize the impact of our use and love of cosmetics on landfills," said Kilgore. Her team hopes to work toward developing cosmetics packaging that is more recyclable as well as aesthetically pleasing (a rare feat in today's product development landscape).
Beauty Pie just launched in December 2016, but the brand will be rolling out tools in January, then moving on to skin care in April. Kilgore is starting with "incredible Swiss formulations" for this category and has tapped labs in South Korea, Japan, France, and more clear complexion hubs around the world for future launches.
"We are literally launching 365 new makeup products next year alone," revealed Kilgore, "So there's going to be a lot for her to choose from . . . a cornucopia of cosmetics."

Dad of Interracial Family Admits He Almost Backed Out of Adopting His Black Daughter
While passing around family photos, a holiday tradition, Frank Somerville reflected on the first photo of his adopted daughter with his wife. The 1 Thing You Should Try Adding to Your Scrambled Eggs
Some people add milk to their scrambled eggs, some prefer heavy cream, and some scramble them in bacon fat. Even if you think you've tried it all, there's one sneaky ingredient you might not have added before, and that's worcestershire sauce. I found this idea in a Facebook comment on our post about how chefs scramble eggs, and I knew I wanted to try it myself because I'm a huge fan of the incredibly savory condiment. The sauce, which is typically used for steak and Bloody Marys, is made of anchovies (yes, really), garlic, vinegar, molasses, salt, onions, chili peppers, and other spices.
So how does it taste in scrambled eggs? It's interesting, but in a good way - I totally approve. I recommend adding 1/4 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce per two eggs and whisking everything together well before cooking your eggs low and slow. The sauce is already really salty, so you don't need to add anymore. The eggs develop a slightly tangy, smoky, umami-rich flavor that's unlike any scrambled egg I've had before. If you have worcestershire sauce on hand anyway, give this a try. It just might become your favorite scrambled eggs recipe.
