7 Harry Potter Gingerbread Houses That Would Make Mrs. Weasley Proud
As muggles, holiday crafts often get the best of us - we don't have charms to help us decorate trees ("wingardium leviosa" would be extremely useful) or the gift of divination to forewarn us about ill-fated DIY projects. But for some Harry Potter fans, creating glorious Christmas creations seems to come naturally. These seven creative takes on gingerbread houses will make your jaw drop . . . and not because Malfoy hexed your teeth into growing abnormally large.

After 2 Weeks of Contractions, Justin Timberlake’s Song Helped This Mom Go Into Labor
Kassandra Hanks was having contractions every three minutes for 15 days, until Justin Timberlake's upbeat, energetic music helped finally induce her labor. The 26-year-old mom of four was four centimeters dilated and dancing around in the bathroom at a Florida hospital and hoping for a miracle when "Can't Stop the Feeling" managed to get her labor really in motion. Around the 2:08 mark, we see Kassandra go from dancing energetically to being doubled over and calling quits on the video, which was likely around the time she knew her daughter was officially on the way!
According to Caters News Agency, less than 48 hours after the video ended, Kassandra welcomed her daughter and fourth child, Rylee Grace. Watch the video above and see the magic that Justin Timberlake's music can have on this expectant mom. We knew JT had a powerful voice, but this proves just how influential it really is!
You Can Now Actually Feel Like a Jedi With This Amazing New Gadget
Every Star Wars fan has at least once in their life quoted or made some joke about wishing they could control objects with the Force. That dream became a slight reality when Sphero released a BB-8 droid last year that could move around - all through a smartphone app. Now, you get to actually control BB-8 as if you were a Jedi (or Sith) with the release of the Force Band, a bracelet that dictates the moves of BB-8 with your hand movements.
What's the Force Band?
Are you wondering if you read that right? You did. Yes, Sphero actually topped itself and made the coolest Star Wars toy ever - again. With the Force Band, you can use "the Force" to push, pull, and control BB-8. You can make it roll across the room, move it to the right, and even beckon it back to you.
And that's just Droid Control mode. The device has five total modes: Droid Control, Force Training, Combat Training, Force Awareness, or Robot Control. The first controls BB-8. Force Training uses BB-8 to teach you certain moves to become a "Master Jedi Knight." In Combat Training mode, you can set certain sounds to your Force Band, like a lightsaber or TIE fighter, and have an imaginary battle or fight. With Force Awareness, you can collect "Holocrons" around you. Think of it is as Pokémon Go, except you don't need to keep the app open or do anything to get a Holocron.
Check out photos of both BB-8 and the Force Band ahead, as well GIFs of it in action. This won't be the last time you see it; it'll definitely be at the top of everyone's holiday wishlist this year.

Fashion's Top Designers Weigh in on Dressing Melania Trump
Michelle Obama paid close attention to fashion throughout her time in the White House, and that was something we didn't ignore. This year, we spent plenty of time writing about and analyzing her outfits, applauding her support for new designers and her ability to stay true to her signature style. In 2016, fashion and politics collided a number of times, and not only when Michelle was in the room.
Melania Trump, who will take the reigns as FLOTUS in January, has already sparked controversy and made statements through her clothing on the campaign trail. And now labels are taking a firm stance against dressing her, while some designers are all for it. Before the election, celebrities endorsed presidential candidates with small accessories or tees, but they announced their pride in a big way on Instagram. You can bet the internet had a response.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May was criticized for her looks, and designers at Fashion Week tapped into politics, too. Scroll to read up on the 13 most important moments that happened around the world.

What Kind of Milk Is Really the Standard at Starbucks?
Unless you specify otherwise, your Starbucks latte will be made with 2 percent milk . . . but that wasn't always the case. When Starbucks first opened in 1971, all lattes and milk-based drinks were made with whole milk because former CEO Howard Schultz wanted use the milk that Italians drink with their coffee. "Originally, Schultz only allowed whole milk in stores," because he strove to serve only "Italian-style espresso drinks," NPR reported.
While whole milk was the standard for more than 30 years, customers began to voice their opinions and demand a change, so Starbucks "eliminated all artificial trans fat and made 2 percent milk the new standard for espresso beverages" in 2007. What's interesting is that year was the first time that Starbucks actually started carrying 2 percent. If you asked for it before then, what you really got was a blend of whole milk and skim milk made by the barista. According to the Seattle Times, "each reduced-fat latte at Starbucks was its own unique blend. Baristas poured a little from the whole-milk jug and a little from the skim-milk bottle until one-of-a-kind fat reduction was achieved."
Now, it seems crazy to think there used to be limited options for the type of milk you wanted to order in your latte. Today, Starbucks's milks include whole, nonfat, 2 percent, soy, coconut, and, most recently, almond milk - Starbucks even uses separate milk steamers for dairy and nondairy beverages. Did you know that little piece of Starbucks history?

New Year's Resolutions For the Newly Divorced Parent
While I usually poo-poo New Year's resolutions (each year, the gym is always crowded in January and then conspicuously bare in March - hm . . .), I have to say that when you're newly divorced, or still recovering emotionally and financially from the beast known as divorce, it can't hurt to put out a few lights for your life path on the brink of a new year.
Break Out
You may have already noticed that some of your friends don't ask you to hang out anymore. You may notice that it's mostly "couple friends" or people who know your ex as well as you and aren't texting or asking you for playdates, nights out, etc. Worse still, it may be your regular group of girlfriends who either are too self-occupied to care about what you're going through or are too uncomfortable with this "unsavory" part of your life to be a friend. Whatever the case may be, take some inventory first. You just shed a marriage because, for whatever reason, it wasn't working out for you. If some of your friends aren't up to snuff, you've got two choices: address the issue with them or just set them free.
If you're like me, you may already have a core group of friends . . . who are all married. Finding people to go out with when I have the time can be difficult. If you're sociable, join a meet-up group for divorced people, or if you're gun-shy about such things, try an online support group. I tend to shy away from such groups, but I do lean toward activities. New hobbies and any type of new exercise could lead you to meet new people. Be open to making new friends. It's crucial to have a support system!
Finances
This is often the most difficult part of divorce. For some women who have been working a long time or perhaps are getting significant amounts of alimony and support, this may not feel like such a sledgehammer to the gut, but for many of the women I have spoken with, as well as myself, it's earth-shattering and scary. I was a mostly SAHM who taught at night and freelanced. My ex was the breadwinner and managed the bills, and while I lived on my own before I got married, I felt I needed some advice in terms of making a budget and sticking with it. Savvy Ladies is a nonprofit organization that provides personal-finance education and resources for women to inspire them to plan for the future. I hit up its financial helpline and got free advice on budgeting from an expert who didn't push me to sign up for any services. I highly recommend it, even if you're already established in a career.
What if you're stuck with an ex who is a nightmare to deal with when it comes to money? While my process has been fairly smooth, with both my ex and I hashing it out on our own for now (not always fun, but we do the best we can!), I know many others who don't have it as easy. Support Pay is a great tool to help you manage household expenses and child support. It also "does all the work of organizing, calculating, storing, and notifying both parents of child support and shared expenses in an easy-to-use system."
The Partner Myth
The other day someone told me to "find someone so you'll be happy." Don't get me wrong: I love a good romantic story any day of the week. Bring me your handsome, kind intellectuals, Cupid. Who doesn't want someone to cuddle with and, hey, get a little rough with?
But try to shake yourself free of The Partner Myth. You know how this myth goes: you'll be happy once Prince Charming or Princess Charming comes in to save you. As hard as it is looking at negative numbers, bills, housework, chores, and little things like 'who do I call now in an emergency?", a romantic partner is not the solution to life's problems. You can be happy on your own - believe that. Once you believe it, you will be, and then once you're "still standing, better than you ever did," it's most likely the time when the right person will walk into Target, the gym, or wherever else you frequent. And guess what? If mister or missus right doesn't show up, you'll still be fine because you choose to be happy in 2015 and thereafter!
*Bonus Round: If you're a newly divorced person, what do you think should be the most important thing, anyway: getting your head and house together, or finding "the one"?
If you answered "finding 'the one,'" reread this section again as homework!
It's All About You
There are some days when I think all is merry in Disneyland, when suddenly something happens, like my kid has a meltdown. For example, on Christmas Day, my kid didn't want to leave to go to her dad's, which was surprising since she's 3 1/2 and in her daddy stage. She just wanted us all to be together for the damned day and not apart. She ended up having a lovely time with him once she left, but it was a reminder that she, like myself, is still adjusting. When she left, I felt mentally drained from her tantrum and sad. It's hard to manage your kids' emotions and your own in a divorce, but one of the best pieces of advice I have gotten since enduring Operation Divorce was from a play therapist:
"If you're on a plane, the parent puts the mask on first and then the child's mask. If you can't breathe, you can't help her. Put on your mask."
Taking care of yourself - however that needs to happen - is not an alternative; it's a must. If you are a mess, your kids will be too, and yep, it's hard to be all sunshine and kittens when the bomb of divorce leaves a mess in your life. If this means watching bad television, taking a run in the park, or setting up some time alone for even half an hour, do whatever it takes to make this happen. You run the ship, Captain: make sure you're driving it sober.
What It's Really Like to Get Hair Extensions
In just one afternoon, my hair went from short bob to mermaid long. No, I didn't develop Disney-level magic powers or turn into Beyoncé; I got head-turning extensions.
When RPZL, a new hair extension and blowout bar in New York, offered to let me try a new type of hair extensions, I jumped at the chance. I've had long hair in the past, but I'm currently in the process of growing out a pixie cut, and it is trying my patience.
So I opted for RPZL Next, which uses ultrasonic waves to bond keratin attachments to your actual hair. Like heat-applied keratin extensions, RPZL Next lasts at least three months, but unlike tape extensions, they're attached via individual wefts rather than in strips.
If you, too, are having growing-out woes, or if you just want to add body to already-long locks, you might want keratin-bonded extensions. Here's a step-by-step breakdown of what you can expect from the process.

5 Makeup Trends to Save For Instagram, According to Kim Kardashian's Makeup Artist
Mario Dedivanovic is undeniably a makeup genius. He is the man behind many of Kim Kardashian's most smoldering eye shadow looks and bone-structure enhancing contour jobs. Recently, I was able to watch the master at work, making over a model during a class for editors (hosted by Jergens). There, I watched him effortlessly layer eyeliner and perfectly blend foundation with a puff. It was mesmerizing.
But most importantly, I discovered that certain viral Instagram trends should probably stay in 2016. When asked about everything from ultra-matte lips to unicorn-inspired beauty, Dedivanovic confirmed that many of these fads just aren't flattering. Read on to see what he really thinks, and learn tips on what to do instead. Teaser: it's time to get more light-handed with your brow pencil.

5 New Year's Resolutions All Moms Secretly Make
Every year you tell yourself, "This will be my year!" You start the year with big, grandiose plans, like that you're going to volunteer each day, become Mother of the Year, rock a body that your friends will hate you for, and save a million dollars. Then Jan. 2 comes and suddenly you're screaming at your kids, eating ice cream straight from the tub on the couch, and confirming the decision to wear yoga pants 24/7.
The reality is that you're going to be the same perfectly imperfect mom you were in 2016, and that's damn good enough. Instead of making yourself crazy with unrealistic expectations, here are some real New Year's Resolutions you can make and feel good about.
Put the other "lofty" resolutions in the trash where they belong.
- Finally master DIY crafts and make your friends envious of your crafting skills. Each holiday season your friends bust out teacher gifts that look like they were professionally made and they all do so smiling and not once complaining that they're too busy - you want to stomp on a butterfly, you're so pissed. This year, master those DIY crafts and make your friends feel like inferior crafters! Darn your kids' clothing, and in fact, start your own clothing line!
The real resolution: to get your kids to craft for you! Make them earn their keep.
- Make it to the bus stop on time. Are you late to the bus about nine times out of 10? Does the bus driver roll his or her eyes when seeing your brood bringing up the rear? Are you tired of seeing that smug and annoyed look? Resolve to get to the bus stop on time each day and show that bus driver what you're made of!
The real resolution: go to the bus stop alone and let him or her take you to school. It's the only way anyone in your family will be on time to the stop. I guess the kids can just walk like we did back in the day.
- Figure out how to make your kids listen. No one likes it when mommy gets mad and turns red, cries, or yells. You tried the damn elf. The Santa threats. You tried every sort of parental discipline method known to mankind, yet still, you get to that melting point in which you had gotten dogs instead of kids. You want to resolve to get those darn kids in line! It sounds so appealing but . . .
The real resolution: to surrender and accept true defeat. When your kids don't listen say, "Oh well, mom's retiring." Of course that means, mom doesn't make dinner, read stories, and do laundry. Do this for a while until kids realize if they want mom back on the books, they'll have to get in line. Or, offer to send them to a sweatshop for a few days . . . Eek!
- Eat healthier. You and your partner are going fresh! Everything is going to be Non-GMO, organic, straight-from-the-farm fresh! You won't eat one processed serving and your kids are going to drink shakes with kale and love it! Of course, after two days of your kids giving you and your kale shakes the big F-U, you'll be back to mac and cheese and stuffing your face on the kids' seconds.
The real resolution: resolve to try to eat healthier . . . sometimes. Like when your kids are sleeping, you're at work, or pigs fly.
- Make your MIL your BFF. You've decided that this year, you're going to be your MIL's favorite daughter-in-law. She's going to love you. You're going to ignore all her subtle condescending comments and swallow them down quietly. You're going to invite her to do things with you and when she insults what you wear, you're going to passively nod in pseudo agreement.
The real resolution: drink more when you see your MIL, staple your mouth shut, or become a nun.
Here's Why You Should Get the iPhone 7 Plus but Not the iPhone 7
To upgrade or not to upgrade - that is the question. We tested out the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus for a few weeks to determine if the latest phones are worth your money.
If you're an Apple fan, you know that the company is consistently creating new products with updates that often (but not always) make them worth purchasing. Whether it's something like adding 3D Touch or actually making a phone that fits in your pocket, Apple knows how to make you daydream about all the new and exciting things you can do with the latest iPhone. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are not the most groundbreaking new phones, but they do have qualities that make them appealing.
If you're interested in all the specs, head straight to our table that shows you the differences between the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, 7, and 7 Plus. Otherwise, keep reading to see what we think of the new phones (lent to us by Apple) and whether they're worth buying.
How to Properly Clean Your Keyboard - Because Just Wiping It Doesn't Really Do Much
The dirt lingering in your keyboard models itself after that old saying: out of sight, out of mind. While giving your keyboard the deep cleaning it really needs may seem like a daunting task, the process was recently broken down by one helpful Imgur user, who goes by codenamesharp on the site.
The user's step-by-step guide is great in that it uses household items you likely already have. One look at the dirt, crumbs, and grime under the user's keyboard should be enough to leave you running to go clean your own. It's important to note, however, that this technique primarily works for wireless keyboards and the process may vary from keyboard to keyboard.
Look ahead for the handy how-to.
A Deer Just Busted Into a Gym to Complete the Craziest Pre-Holiday Workout We’ve Ever Seen
Deer dashes into South Carolina Gold's Gym, leaps over some weights before completing its quick two-minute workout. https://t.co/S0lYeWaDYt http://pic.twitter.com/PFO8e2rOAj
- ABC News (@ABC) December 19, 2016
Just when we thought we were excited to tackle our fitness New Year's resolutions, we saw this deer who was so eager to start, he busted through a gym's entrance for a quick two-minute workout. According to video footage from a Gold's Gym location in Anderson, SC, a deer broke through the gym's window and ran through the facility, startling muscular clients, but also impressing everyone with his speedy moves.
"He thought we said a buck could join, but it's a buck to join," the gym joked on its Facebook page. The deer put on quite the show, hurdling over weights and machines like a gold medal Olympian, but apparently he didn't like what he saw because he was in and out of the gym very quickly. Luckily, no one was hurt while the deer turned the gym into an obstacle course, and it was reported that the deer exited through the window he initially broke in through.

18 Slang Words That Will Make You Sound Like an Old Fart
As a Millennial in my 20s, it's hard to believe that my generation is slowly becoming dated, especially when it comes to our slang. Everything we used to think was supercool, like playing Oregon Trail, is now seen as archaic and lame by the generation after us. Since we're not entirely sure if we'll ever get a handle on using the cool new terms like "sus" and "stan," we're going to take a trip down slang memory lane and revisit our favorites. Do you still say any of the words on this list? If so, it might make you sound old, but hopefully it stokes you up and makes you raise the roof with your homies.
This Stranger Saved an Exhausted Dad Traveling Alone With the "Power of the Boobies"
Kindness of Strangers
When Evan Hughes was flying with his 8-month-old son, the Dallas dad was having a pretty terrible day.
Due to bad weather and flight cancellations, he and his wife were rebooked on separate flights. This was only the second time flying with their infant and since Evan was scheduled to arrive home first, they decided the baby would go with him. When the pair boarded the final flight after a layover in Atlanta, Evan chatted with the woman next to him as they took their seats.
The child quickly took a liking to their neighbor and started trying to crawl over to her. The woman offered to hold the baby, but Evan politely declined. However, his little boy made his intentions known and as the child was starting to fuss the woman said, "Oh just give him to me!"
Exhausted after a long day, Evan handed his little one over and the child momentarily looked out the window before immediately making himself comfortable and nuzzling up to her chest. "Not 60 seconds later he puts his head down on her chest and falls asleep!" Evan shared on Reddit along with a precious snapshot.
According to Evan, the kind new friend smiled and simply said, "Power of the boobies." She then offered to keep holding the sleeping infant if Evan wanted to get some rest on the flight. "After multiple cancellations and layovers, I selfishly agreed to give her watch over my precious child so that I could catch a quick cat nap," Evan wrote. "The kindness of this stranger was truly refreshing on what was quickly becoming one of the worst days in a long time. There is still hope!"
Alton Brown Reveals the 1 Surprising Ingredient He Adds to Hot Cocoa
'Tis the season for homemade hot cocoa, and Alton Brown has a recipe you'll want to try immediately. The Food Network host shared his hot cocoa mix recipe, which includes a surprising ingredient you might not expect: cayenne pepper. "The Aztecs always added chiles to their chocolate. Even a pinch ups the flavor ante quite a bit," Alton wrote in his recipe.
Alton also expanded on the unfortunate truth about packets of instant hot cocoa mix. "Instant cocoa is a fine concept, but most commercial mixes aren't exactly packed with quality ingredients or flavor." Making your own ensures you're not getting straight-up sugar mixed with unpronounceable ingredients, and it's so easy to make that it's a no-brainer.
The best part of Alton's recipe is that it'll keep for an entire year if stored in an airtight container in a cool place. Anyone else getting suddenly inspired to wrap this up as a last-minute edible gift? Excuse us while we ditch the store-bought hot cocoa for good and make Alton Brown's hot cocoa mix from here on out.

You Won't Believe These Lego Instructions From the 1970s
Update:
Lego sent us an email confirming the message's authenticity. "Yes, the text is from 1974 and was a part of a pamphlet showing a variety of LEGO doll house products targeted to girls aged four and up from the 1970s," said spokesperson Roar Rude Trangbæk, who added that the text remains relevant to this day across every LEGO product.
Original story:
Recently, a photo of a Lego message to parents in the 1970s went viral on Reddit. Mostly because it looks so different from Lego's gender marketing of today.

Inspiring, isn't it? Some commenters have questioned the letter's authenticity, blaming poor formatting and font choice, but the poster alleges that it's real, and we've reached out to Lego for verification.
The letter reminds us of a wonderful Lego ad from the early '80s. Can we please have more like this and less like the sexist Barbie programming book?

Make Harry Potter Fans Green With Envy Over These 32 Slytherin Gifts
Slytherins get a bad reputation. I mean, there was that whole business with Voldemort being in the infamous House, Salazar Slytherin wasn't exactly perfect, and I'm not trying to say that Snape and Malfoy were angels. Still, it's easy to forget just how many good qualities the House boasts - ambition, cunning, and lifelong friendships to name a few. While over the years I've admittedly had to come to terms with my true Slytherin self, I have to say that now I'm loud and proud about my affiliation with the House, and other Slytherins should be, too! These gifts will speak to your Potter-loving, serpentine souls.

Laurie Hernandez Learning a Dance From The Nutcracker Will Give You All the Christmas Cheer
Laurie Hernandez is impossible not to love. Between her sassy (and medal-winning) poses at the Olympics, and her winning dance routines on Dancing With the Stars, watching the 16-year-old gymnast is always sure to make you smile. This new video from Teen Vogue is no exception, as Laurie cheerfully learns a scene from The Nutcracker from New York City Ballet dancers.
In the cute clip, Laurie admits that ballet is nothing she's tried before, as she adorably pirouettes and sashays her way through the routine - later, she fesses up to being sore for a few days post-ballet lesson. Regardless of Laurie's lack of experience, her beautiful form through the "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" is definitely putting us in the cheeriest of holiday spirits.

Put These 9 Things in Your Carry-On to Make Flying With Kids Less Stressful
Flying with small children is a little like 4:30 dinner at your grandparents' favorite cafeteria: you don't know what you're going to get, but you're pretty sure it's not going to be good. I've taken dozens of flights with my kids, ages 5 and almost 3, and there hasn't been a single one that wasn't somewhere on the spectrum of mildly stressful to downright horrific (that was the one where my husband was asked to give up his aisle seat next to us for an elderly woman, leaving me on solo parent duty with our then-4-year-old daughter and 20-month-old son, who was so awful that I'm surprised he didn't earn a permanent place on the No Fly List).
All of my experiences with the not-so-kid-friendly skies have taught me that preparation is key. Flying in general can be unpredictable and annoying, so add a toddler or two to the mix, and ample supplies are absolutely necessary.
Here's what you should pack in your easily accessible carry-on to make sure you arrive at your destination safely and (sort of) sanely.
- An iPad or tablet. This is the single most important item you will pack for your flight if you don't enjoy finding a new way to entertain your kid every 30 to 45 seconds. Consider hiding your child's iPad for a few days before your trip to really ensure he'll be glued to it, and add a few new apps and shows for additional incentive. Now is not the time to worry about whether your kid is getting too much screen time.
- Headphones. Really want to piss off your fellow fliers? Give your kid that iPad without headphones, and watch them recoil at the volume level your little darling will insist upon. If your children don't usually wear headphones, introduce them in advance of your trip to let them get used to them.
- Ample snacks. Healthy snacks, unhealthy snacks, hearty snacks, more unhealthy snacks . . . you need them all. If they don't eat all the sugar- and salt-laden prepackaged foods you bring, be sure to hide them once you arrive to your destination so you have them for the return flight.
- A bag of suckers. Suckers just might save your life. Use them as rewards or just to kill time. Bring as many as you can. Trust me.
- Plane-friendly toys and activities. Let your kids pick a favorite stuffed animal or toy to bring along, but also surprise them with new coloring books and a couple of plane-friendly activities, like a new Magna Doodle, travel-friendly Guess Who game, Etch-a-Sketch, or Water Wow book.
- More diapers and wipes than you think you'll need. I still have nightmares about a friend who landed in Chicago with her two toddlers and was stuck on the Tarmac for six hours, and it didn't even happen to me. Throw a few more diapers and an extra pack of wipes in your bag. You won't be sorry.
- An extra set of clothing for your kid. Spills and diaper explosions should be expected, so come prepared with at least an extra t-shirt and pair of pants.
- Drink vouchers. Those free drinks your husband scored when he was delayed on his last business trip? Now's the time to use them, mama. Ignore the judgy looks you'll get balancing a Bloody Mary on your baby's head.
- That book you've been dying to read. Just kidding; you might be able to stare longingly at the cover if your kid decides to nap, but even then, you'll never get to actually read it. (Ever try to juggle a book and a sleeping baby? Impossible.) Grab a gossip mag instead. Maybe your kid will be entertained for a minute or two by ripping out the pages.
