Dad Is Teaching His Son That Parenting Isn't Just a Woman's Job With 1 Christmas Gift
Lately, a little boy named Knox has been playing with a small doll that he calls Bubba. The Australian toddler absolutely loves his "baby," but his dad didn't realize how important this toy was for his son until he was out Christmas shopping with his wife.
Despite knowing how much Knox enjoys playing with his baby doll, Brad Kearns didn't give it a second thought until his wife mentioned that for one of the Knox's gifts, they needed to find a stroller for him to push Bubba around in. Without even realizing it, Brad's first reaction to Sarah's thoughtful idea was to turn his nose up and ask why they would buy their little boy a stroller.
"Why did I do that? What's wrong with a little boy having a pram and a baby?" Brad wrote on his Facebook page, DaDMuM. "Holy f*ck. I was literally going against most of the sh*t I preach and I didn't even mean to. I just assumed that a pink toy wasn't a boy's toy."
Despite understanding and publicly sharing online that it's a dad's responsibility to teach boys how to treat women with equality and respect, this open-minded father still learned a major lesson in the toy aisle. "No wonder some little boys grow up thinking parenting is a woman's job. No f*cking wonder," Brad wrote. "We looked at all the prams and they were basically all pink. Most real prams are black . . . "
Instead of denying his son of a "girl" toy, Brad is gifting Knox and Bubba with a stroller - even if it is pink. "We need to change this sh*t!" he wrote. "Our little boys and girls need to know it's okay to be whatever they want to be."

Alan Thicke's Official Cause of Death Has Been Revealed
Alan Thicke passed away at age 69 on Dec. 13. While it was initially reported that the actor - who was best known for his role as Jason Seaver in Growing Pains, and more recently, as Mike on Fuller House - passed away from a heart attack while playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter, his official cause of death has now been revealed. Alan's death certificate says he died from a "ruptured aorta" and a "standard type A aortic dissection," People confirms. He was immediately transported to Providence St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, CA, but his certificate says he died just minutes after the rupture. He is survived by wife Tanya and his three sons, Robin, Brennan, and Carter.
Robin spoke to The LA Times after the news broke and called his father "the greatest man I ever met" and "always a gentleman." "The good thing was that he was beloved and he had closure. I saw him a few days ago and told him how much I loved and respected him," he added. Alan's Fuller House costar, fellow TV dad Bob Saget, also tweeted his condolences that same evening.
So sad is the passing of Alan Thicke. Such a good husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace dear Alan.

When It Comes to Fashion, Queen Letizia Is No Old-School Royal - Her 2016 Style Prove It
If you're going to talk about unconventional royal style, you have to acknowledge Queen Letizia is the ruler. The Spanish royal, married to King Felipe VI, goes out of her way to stand out with her fashion picks, rebelling against what everyone thinks is appropriate for a queen to wear at official events.
Have you ever seen another ruler wear loose leather pants and a bright fuchsia jacket together? Or a crocodile skirt suit? How about a black cape over a red and white houndstooth top? Or track pants? Letizia is all about making the new rules of royal fashion, demonstrating her commitment to being different with every outfit she's worn this year. Scroll ahead to see her best and feel inspired to take risks, too. These are looks you could actually wear over and over again.
Emma Roberts Picked This $60 Winter Coat Right Off the Racks
Only LA weather would let you get away with wearing a denim mini skirt and a furry coat, which is why we were a little jealous of Emma Roberts's outfit when we saw her. For her shopping trip, Emma wore a colorblock Tory Burch sweater and styled the top with something a little less pricey - a $60 coat from Forever 21. While the sweater was cute and definitely festive for the holidays, it was really her jacket that stole the attention.
The luxe-looking coat perfectly complemented her outfit, making Emma a master of the high-low style. To recreate your own version of Emma's outfit, shop her exact sweater ahead. Although the coat isn't available anymore, we did find similar picks below to fit everyone's price range.

Did You Know You Should Have Been Cutting Grapes Like This the Whole Time?
We all know we're are supposed to slice grapes before giving them to young children to prevent possible choking. But what if your little one somehow snags a whole one without you realizing? Or what if you've been cutting them - but just the wrong way?
Sophie Jackson found out in the most frightening way possible when her 2-year-old son, Jake, put a few grapes in his mouth and immediately started choking. In her Facebook post detailing the events, she chronicles the steps she took - some incorrect, according to the American Red Cross - that thankfully led to the boy's recovery.
She said she immediately put him over her knee and hit his back several times, and when that didn't work, she put her fingers down his throat. The Red Cross, however, advises that such "back blows" be done in conjunction with abdominal thrusts. Smacking the back alone could move the food into a more dangerous position and make the child stop breathing, as can rooting around in the child's mouth.
Despite not knowing the proper CPR protocol, Sophie - like any mom in such a position - was doing her best and certainly wasn't ready to give up.
I knew I needed to ring an ambulance. Mark got Jake and started hitting Jake's back while he was still unable to breathe while I rang an ambulance. Ellie was crying saying, "He's going to die, Mum, I don't know what to do." Jake was blue and purple and stopped struggling. He wet himself, then my mum forced her fingers down Jake's throat and managed to pop a grape while Mark was still hitting Jake's back. My mom's fingernail popping the grape made the smallest amount for room in Jake's airways, which enabled him to finally have the strength to retch hard and bring out the grape followed by blood and mucous. Jake could finally breathe.
Turns out, the grapes lodged in Jake's mouth were whole, but Sophie soon learned that even if she'd cut them as she always did - width-wise - he still could have choked. Turns out, grapes should be cut length-wise so they can more easily pass through smaller throats.
Jake is at home and doing well and Sophie's message is simple: "I really hope this encourages people to look into children's first aid and always cut grapes. . . . If he ever decides to eat grapes I will always cut them as shown."

The One Piece Your Winter Wardrobe Is Missing
The following article is an excerpt of a post originally featured on Love, Grey Skies and written by Tiffany Diana Torres, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Latina.
The best way to update your wardrobe for a new season isn't to go splurging at the mall. As much as we may be tempted to. Sure, that black blouse fits well, and maybe you could use an extra pair of distressed denim (I mean, don't we all?!), but those pieces aren't going to add any value to your wardrobe. Today, I'm going to give you some tips for adding this much-needed turtleneck dress to your Fall collection and how to make it work with your body type.
Other than the fact that this dress looks extremely cozy, it's also right on trend. Turtlenecks have made a comeback (thank you, Steve Jobs), and they just keep getting bigger and better! I found this baby at Forever 21 (sadly, it's not online) and knew I had to have it as a transitional piece. But what makes it so good that you need to have it? Well, let's get into it!
- Length: This is my favorite length because of where it hits the leg. It's just below the knees, so it's very appropriate and it still shows enough to keep it sexy. Plus, this totally works for us shorties (5 foot 3 inches here!). All you have to do is add some heels, and you're good to go. How beautiful are these lace-up shoes?!
- Color: It's gray - enough said. I'm a huge fan of neutral pieces for their versatility, which is exactly what makes this a must-have piece. It goes with just about anything! I styled it with more Fall-like colors, and I love how the camel and wine balance one another. Want an edgier look? Add black faux leather pieces. Or maybe you want something softer? Go for a blush duster coat and a pair of nude shoes. The combinations are endless, and it will take you from Fall all the way to Spring.
- Design: It's sleeveless! I know you can't tell because I have the cape coat on, but it's one of the reasons why it's a great transitional piece - layers! Having pieces that are layerable are a plus, especially for work. Add a chiffon blouse underneath for a more office-appropriate look (chic, too!) or get even cozier with a long-sleeved thermal for the weekend. Plus, the big front pockets have a great design aesthetic. Who doesn't like pockets?
Now to the tricky part (or so you think). We all have different body types, and what works from some may not work for others, but that's the beauty of personal style. You get to make it work for you! My body is very curvy (hello chest, hips, and thighs), and it wasn't something that I always embraced, but as I grow older I'm learning to wear things that show off those curves.
One of the easiest tricks is adding a belt! Place it at your natural waistline and tighten - just don't make it too tight! You want to still be able to breathe. This dress happens to be a bit more boxy, so I made sure to add the belt. It gave the dress more definition and also added shape to the overall look. I would say that's a win-win!

These Precious Pets Are So Freakin' Pumped to Meet Santa Claus

No Fashion Girl Can Do Without This Top in 2017
I used to think of button-downs as polished and preppy, the easy answer to a look that's clean and classic. But enter 2017, and the simple button-down has come undone. We spotted the trend all over the Spring 2017 runways, referring to the pulled-apart shirt as "wardrobe disruption." While the pieces you'll see are still tailored, they're purposefully ripped at the shoulder, slashed down the arm, or intended to wrap (not button-up at all). They have an asymmetrical, off-kilter fit. In short, they mess up your outfit - but in the best possible way.
Bloggers are already in on the look, getting their hands on some of the freshest merchandise, and showing us how they plan on rocking it through the new year. Whether it's an oversize sleeve that extends beyond the hands, lending your silhouette geometric shape, or loose sashes that hang from your cuffs to the ground, there are so many ways to leave the classic top behind. Read on to see the single most popular piece girls will be 'gramming in the coming months, and get an early start by adding it to your wardrobe.

Irina Shayk's Engagement Ring Will Be on Your Mind All Day
With the announcement of Irina Shayk's pregnancy at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, we expected plenty of stylish maternity looks to come. So when we spotted the supermodel out in LA wearing a quirky cat print dress, thigh-high boots, and Givenchy sunglasses, we thought, "yeah, this feels about right." Irina's look was slightly sexy with a modest touch thanks to a pussy-bow secured at her neckline. But oh, HELLO stunning emerald jewel on Irina's left ring finger. That we were not expecting.
The gorgeous oval gemstone is surrounded by twinkling diamonds and causing quite the stir. Is it an engagement ring from Bradley Cooper? If it is, that makes Irina quite the unique bride - one who opted for a sparkler with plenty of personality, instead of something simple and classic. Read on to get a closer look, then shop inspired emeralds for yourself, in case you've been looking for something special to add to your jewelry box.
If Finding a Pet Sitter Is Holding You Back From Traveling, This Is the Solution
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Lisette Mejia
If you've wanted to travel the world and been held back by either not knowing what to do with your pet while you're gone or not having the funds to quite make the trip work, TrustedHousesitters has answers for everyone. Through an online network, the company matches houses and sitters so pet owners can go on vacation knowing their furry friends are being taken care of and travelers can have a place to stay free of charge. I sat down with CEO and Founder Andy Peck to learn more about how TrustedHousesitters works - because it almost sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong!
First, the basics. There are two ways to use TrustedHousesitters: as a sitter and as a pet owner. No matter which you are, you pay a $99 membership fee that lasts you for a year - and that is the last time you pay anything. If you join as a pet owner, you can list your house and your pet on the site for dates you want to leave town and put out a call for someone to come stay at your house and care for your animal. You won't pay them any money, but you will unofficially pay them by giving them a place to stay. If you join as a sitter, you can search through listings all over the world and find houses and animals that need you to come take care of them.
Peck and his cofounder Rachel Martin started TrustedHousesitters back in 2010 when they stumbled upon house-sitting in Spain and realized a house-sitting company with a pet-watching component could fill a large gap in the travel market. What started as a small UK-based business has now grown worldwide, with its largest markets being in Europe and Australasia. Peck said, however, that the US seems to be the fastest-growing area, customer-wise.
According to the ASPCA, there are over 140 million cats and dogs owned in the US, so it comes as no surprise to me that needing pet sitters is a large business. When Peck and Martin set out to start TrustedHousesitters, they took a look at all the statistics related to pet ownership and travel and found that about 90 percent of people struggle to put their pets in kennels to travel because they just don't feel comfortable with it or can't afford it. "Pets are happier with their own routine, according to the vets we spoke with," Peck said. "They can adapt to a new carer better than to a new environment," which is why it made more sense to provide a service where you could have someone come to your home and care for your pet rather than sending him somewhere.
"We love [TrustedHousesitters] because it helps people," Peck said. "It gives pet owners peace of mind" that their animal is being taken care of by a fellow animal-lover who cares more about the animals than making money. It also provides an amazing travel experience for the house-sitter, because it immerses them in a new community rather than positioning them as a tourist. Peck said that to his knowledge, a common occurrence is for a house-sitter to come to the house before the pet owners leave to spend an evening with them getting to know them, the pets, the house, and the area, before the pet owners set out on vacation. This way the sitter is comfortable in the environment. "This provides really authentic experiences," Peck said.
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Lisette Mejia
By accepting a role as a sitter, though, you're accepting a large responsibility. It's important to note that while you're getting a free place to stay for however long the sit is, that family's pet is under your care. Your TrustedHousesitters membership provides you with 24/7 access to a veterinarian, should you need one, and your membership essentially is your contract stating that you will take action on any ailments the pet under your care experiences. Basically, TrustedHousitters and the homeowner are expecting you to care for the animal as if it were your own.
If you're looking for your next trip, you love animals, and you're mildly interested, let me push you over the edge into convinced: some of these house-sits are phenomenal. You could end up on a tropical beach with a cute pup, a castle in the countryside with two sweet kitties, or a cabin in the woods with a whole crew of furry friends. Peck showed me a listing that's one of his favorites, and it's an actual castle. And who knows, you might end up house-sitting for a celebrity. "We might have a famous person or two on the site, but I obviously can't say who," Peck said. "You wouldn't find out until you were well into the selection process anyways, so you can't exactly search for them."
TrustedHousesitters is also a way for you to see other parts of your own city. I could easily spend a week house-sitting for someone on the other side of Manhattan to get a feel for how the other half lives. Peck actually recommended doing just that. "[TrustedHousesitters] helps you find the not-obvious places." He also recommends using the site if you are retired or have a job that allows you to work remotely. "If you can work remotely, why not work from a beach somewhere?" he asked, and I couldn't agree more.
To get started, go to TrustedHousesitters and get all signed up to find the list of house-sits available. Try it out as either a sitter or an owner, and we think you'll find out what more than 63,000 other community members worldwide already have: TrustedHousesitters is the answer to your traveling woes.

Pet Peeves: My Cat Won't Stop Meowing!
Q: My kitty is a chronic meower. Every morning when I get up, she just follows me around meowing very loudly. Really, I don't mind too much, but the fact that I live in an apartment is what really troubles me. I'm scared that some of the other tenants might start to complain about her meowing so early in the morning. And it's not just friendly, tiny meows . . . these are like loud, long, irritating meows. What should I do?
A: Before I talk about ways to work through kitty's continuous meowing, there are a couple of things to check out first:
- Make sure the cat has food, water, and a clean litter box. Your kitty could simply be communicating that she wants something to be done about one of those things.
- Figure out when your cat is not meowing. Is it a certain time of day or during a certain activity? If you pay attention to kitty, does she continue to meow? When does she start again? Then, try to find a way to continue whatever activity stops the meowing (for example, if kitty consistently meows after you stop playtime, get some games for her to amuse herself with after you go to bed).
- Consider a trip to the vet. When cats are vocal, they are usually trying to communicate something to us. Check with your vet to make sure your pet is healthy. There are certain times when cats are noisier, like when they are in heat or pregnant.
Many times kitties meow for attention and many times they meow exactly when we wouldn't (or couldn't) pay attention to them. I agree with the general consensus to ignore pets when they behave in attention-seeking ways. However, the big problem with this is often times the pets don't stop immediately. That can be very frustrating, it and makes it hard not to pay attention, which just continues the cycle!
You need to try to break the cycle. If pets get a response from you by doing something (meowing, barking, etc.), they are just repeating that action to get a response again. The first rule of thumb is do not respond directly to the cat's meowing, even to get up, shush, or yell - any response counts, even if it isn't a positive one. If your pet continues to meow, try a time out. Shut the door to the room you are in and when she stops meowing, she can come play. If she meows again, back out she goes. More than anything else, this will take time and patience. Good luck!
Kardashian Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic Divulges His Favorite Holiday Beauty Gifts
This holiday season, POPSUGAR Beauty tapped some of our favorite influencers, including popular brand owners, bloggers, pros, and celebrities, to share the gifts they would like to receive or give. Find more gifting inspiration here.
Even if you aren't quite familiar with Mario Dedivanovic, you definitely know him. This incredibly talented makeup artist (along with his celebrity client and muse Kim Kardashian) brought contouring and highlighting to the masses. Quite honestly, it felt a little selfish asking him to share his holiday shopping tips, as the ability to carve features out of a bloated, hungover face was such a game changer. But considering he works with (and presumably gifts to) some of the most famous women in the world, we were dying for his expertise.
Somehow, we caught Mario in between painting the faces of his fabulous clients, partnering with Jergens for his legendary masterclass, and sharing hilarious memes with his Instagram followers. "The holidays are my favorite time of year, especially because I can gift friends and loved ones some of the best beauty products I am loving and using now," he told POPSUGAR via email. "People are always asking me for my tips and tricks, as well as what's in my kit - so it's always fun to surprise them with products they know I am using on my celebrity clientele."
He went on, "I love the challenge of finding the right gift for the right person. I can curate my favorite beauty products for that certain someone: the beauty guru, the girl who has it all, or even just a special gift for your holiday party host or hostess." He noted that finding time to shop is nearly impossible and relies heavily on internet shopping to cross this merry but mighty task off his list. "With my crazy schedule, buying things online makes life so much easier."
Read on to discover this legend's top 10 picks for the 2016 holiday season!

10 Eyebrow-Raising Parenting Resolutions to Try in 2017
As 2016 is coming to a close, parents are looking for ideas to add to their 2017 resolutions list. Our friends at YourTango share their thoughts on unconventional parenting resolutions.
Make 2017 the year of balance.
As the year ends and we prepare to start fresh, parents are looking back on what they can do differently. Traditional parenting tips have many positives attributes but sometimes, it's the unconventional things you would never have thought to do that make all the difference.
Implementing these ten unconventional parenting techniques is the perfect way to start the new year.
By bypassing the traditional route, you can shake up your old routine, enjoy your kids more, and feel calm throughout the year. Finding this kind of balance is sure to make 2017 your best year yet.
1. End the bedtime struggle . . . for good.
Bedtime is the only chance some parents get to relax before a new day begins. However, just as children are snuggled into bed, they realize that they need a glass of water. Then, of course, they will need to do a million other things that don't include sleeping.
End this vicious cycle by giving them one "get-out-of-bed-free" card. By giving them the option to get out of bed, but only once, they will be forced to think about whether they really want to use up their one chance to get out of bed for the night.
2. Make sleeping in a reality.
Once you can get your kids to sleep, the next issue is getting them to stay in bed past 6am. On the weekends, it would be a dream to be able to sleep in.
Make this dream a reality by getting your kids their own alarm clock. There are many to choose from and you can set them so that your little one knows when it's okay to wake everyone else up.
A cheaper option is to write their acceptable wake-up time next to a regular alarm clock then once the numbers match they know it's time to get up.
3. Let your kids roam free.
The "Free Range Kids" movement is a relatively new way of looking at parenting. Basically, by giving your kids as much space as you're comfortable with to roam free, you make your life easier and help them to build their confidence.
As always, make sure there are minimal risks involved and only allow them to wander away if you are comfortable.
4. Stop limiting screen time.
In the world of mom-shaming for technology overuse, this seems like the most unconventional advice yet. The idea behind unlimited screen time is that your children will eventually tire of using their tablets and television and limit themselves out of boredom.
Even if this plan doesn't work out, it's easy to put limits back on after giving it a good try. Better yet, new technology, like the line of guilt-free tech toys from Pai Technology, can actually encourage your children to learn and be creative.
5. Cut down on toys.
Getting rid of some of your child's toys may seem like a punishment, but it is a great parenting tip to de-clutter and spark their imagination.
Donate toys that don't get a lot of use and cut back to about ten toys per child. This will drastically cut down your cleaning time and you'll be surprised by how little your kids will miss them. Just make sure to take the lesser-used toys away without the kids knowing!
6. Cycle out toys.
This concept comes from Montessori Principles. The idea is to keep most of your kid's toys in a bin they do not have free access to and leave out three to five toys on a shelf at their level.
When the toys are seeing less use, you can switch them out with the other toys in their bin. You will cut down on cleanup time and your kids will get to enjoy their toys more.
7. Gain a set of helping hands.
Traditionally, parents set up a gate to block off the kitchen as they prepare meals. While this may seem like the easiest way to get dinner on the table, having your little one help can be much less stressful for them and rewarding in the long run.
Set them up their own space to mix ingredients, chop soft food with a butter knife, and transfer items from mixing bowls and pans. It will keep them occupied and give them confidence in the kitchen later in life.
8. Turn yucky food into yummy food.
Most kids aren't big on eating the healthy food they need to grow strong. Make vegetables more appealing by sprinkling edible glitter on them. It will be like fairy dust for their taste buds!
Does your little one hate drinking their milk? Drop a candy-coated chocolate in the glass. It will change the color of the milk and at the end, they get to eat the chocolate!
9. Let your baby lead the way.
There is a not-so-new idea going around called baby led weaning. Basically, it means skipping the traditional purees and letting your child eat what you eat, starting with finger-foods. After reading up on this method, it's worth a try!
10. Encourage your child to do less homework.
Yes, you read that right. And this tip may warrant a chat with your child's teacher but new research from Ozicare indicates that less homework might be the better option when it comes to academic success.
Statistics from around the world surprisingly show that the countries with the least amount of homework per week, tend to perform better academically.
These ten unconventional parenting tips are sure to help you to break out of the same-old-same cycle that many parents get into. By deciding to use the new year to break out of your parenting rut you will create a better year for yourself and your children.
No matter how strange parenting tips may sound, sometimes breaking convention is just what you need to give yourself a different perspective on daily life.

8 Things You Never Knew About Trader Joe's, Straight From a Former Employee
I spoke to a former employee who worked at Trader Joe's for a year, and he gave me the inside scoop on how the company is run, the little-known details of the return policy, and what the point of those somewhat-annoying bells is. Spoiler alert: there's no real dirt (I tried!), but what I got was interesting, behind-the-scenes intel that made me an even bigger fan of the store.
There's a reason the customer service is so good.
Trader Joe's strategy in providing a quality customer-service experience is simple: overstaff. "They totally overstaff so that you don't feel like your stocking duties or your register duties trump interacting with customers - they encourage you to be nice to customers." That's why you can almost always find someone in a Hawaiian t-shirt or crew-member uniform walking around and waiting to help you find anything.
The employees try all the new products so they know what to tell customers.
"Each Trader Joe's has a break room, and they have one person who's in charge of cooking new stuff that the store gets and making it available for the entire staff who comes through the store that day to try it. They want you to try all the products so you can have an opinion so that when you recommend stuff to people, it's not baseless."
The pay is REALLY good.
This guy started out at Trader Joe's making $12/hour, which was above the state's minimum wage. You not only start out making a good amount, but it gets even better quickly. After three months of working more than 30 hours a week, you get health insurance and a 401K. You'll also likely get a raise once or twice a year. A friend of this employee worked at Trader Joe's for over five years and made $21/hour - that's an annual salary of $42K.
They donate all unsold food.
"Trader Joe's donates a ton of food. It's called 'spoils,' which just means it's not in perfect shape. There's nothing wrong with eating a lime with a couple brown spots, but if you wouldn't buy it and be excited about buying it, then it gets put with spoils and typically gets donated. They donate flowers, produce - everything - to local organizations."
There's a method behind the bell ringing.
You've sometimes noticed employees ringing bells while you're checking out, right? There's a method to the madness, and it's sort of like the store's secret language for various customer-service needs. "One bell means everyone to your register, which means the lines are getting too long and they need everyone at a register. Two bells means you need an employee to come over and help with something. For example, let's say the bag of spinach you bought is partially opened or looks bad; you ring two bells and an employee will come over and grab a new one for you. Three bells means a manager needs to come over."
Every store has an in-house artist.
"Literally all of the signage around the store is custom-made by two or three artists who hang out in the back and almost exclusively do that, and register work every once in a while." That's why every store has location-based art throughout the store - pretty cool, right?
You can return ANYTHING.
Seriously, you could open a bag of popcorn, try it, and bring it back if you didn't like it - for a full refund. "You see that a lot. You get people who come back and say, 'Hey, I tried it, but I didn't really like it.'" Excuse me while I go try every single thing in the snack aisle.
They strive to create an experience that's beyond grocery shopping.
"They really push this whole, 'we don't want you to feel like you're just grocery shopping' thing. They want it to be an experience - something that pulls you out of the monotony of your everyday life."

Kate Middleton Has Something That No Other British Royal Bride Does
We've learned quite a bit about Kate Middleton since she officially joined the royal family in 2011, and getting to see her many milestones as the Duchess of Cambridge has been a real delight. Even though her new life as a duchess has afforded her the same opulent jewels, lavish living quarters, and frequent public appearances as everyone else, there's one thing Kate has that none of the other women in the family do: a college education.
When Kate and William met in 2001, they were both students at University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. They graduated in 2005, William with a master's in geography and Kate with a master's degree (with honors) in art history - making her the UK's first royal bride with a university degree. If Kate becomes queen, she will also be the first ever to have attended college.

Though she didn't attend college, current monarch Queen Elizabeth II's education is nothing to sneeze at. She was essentially homeschooled but had the cream of the crop when it came to teachers. After she became heir to the throne in 1936, she studied constitutional history and law with Eton College Vice Provost Henry Marten. She also learned French, music, and literature from a personal governess and took lessons in religion from the Archbishop of Canterbury. When she was 18, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II, training as a mechanic and driver.
1 Mom Is Begging Parents to Never Wear a Baby While Cooking After Her Horrifying Accident
Baby carriers are a beloved invention for busy parents who need some hands-free time. Yet despite the convenience of being able to physically soothe your little one while still accomplishing your chores, there's one room that you might want to reconsider toting your tot around in a sling: the kitchen.
Molly Landis was an avid baby wearer since it calmed her 4-week-old baby girl while also giving her the freedom to get started on meal prep, but after a shocking accident, she's warning parents to reconsider their routines. "I was involved in an accident where my stove burner exploded and sent a fire ball to my face, neck and chest. This caused open wounds and burns to my face and chest," Molly wrote on Facebook along with a photo of her injuries. "Yes, this is horrible and painful but I haven't been able to stop thinking about how lucky I truly am."
For the first time in her baby's life, Molly's little girl had fallen asleep in her swing so the new mom wasn't wearing the infant at the time of the accident. "The worst of my burns is to my chest - exactly where her precious little head would have been laying if she were in her carrier," Molly wrote. "The point of my message is to please be cautious of the activities we do while wearing our babies! Since this happened I have had so many moms say 'Omg, I do that all the time' ... We never think it could happen to us and I never thought it would happen to me."
This Video Shows the Gorgeous Evolution of Brazilian Beauty
A viral video from Oct. 2015 showing 100 years of Brazilian beauty has unsurprisingly shown us that the Latin American country responsible for bringing Gisele Bündchen, Adriana Lima, and Alessandra Ambrosio into our lives has always had it down when it comes to beauty trends - there's a reason "Brazilian" precedes the words "hair treatment" and "wax"; the beauty experts there know what they're doing. Instead of seeing too much teasing or eyeliner or unfortunate lipstick choices, the looks in this video could walk down the runway right now, sending us into overdrive about their gorgeousness and wearability. Watch the video above to feel inspired by the on-trend looks of Brazilians past, then check out how beauty standards have changed over time.

Too Faced Founder Jerrod Blandino on 10 Girlie Gifts You Need This Season
This holiday season, POPSUGAR Beauty tapped some of our favorite influencers, including popular brand owners, bloggers, pros, and celebrities, to share the gifts they would like to receive or give. Find more gifting inspiration here.
You can thank Jerrod Blandino for your Too Faced obsession! He created what is perhaps one of the most indulgent, kitschy brands out there. (Hello! There's a chocolate chip palette!) Jerrod is also one of the peppiest creatives in the beauty biz (learn more about how he got started here). Since he is just that spirited and has awesome taste (Too Faced partnered with Beautyblender and Kat Von D this year!), we wanted to get his advice on holiday gift giving.
"When holiday shopping - wait! Christmas shopping! - for those I love, I always start off with the idea of having a budget. But that lasts about 30 seconds, and then I just go for it! It is important to know the difference between a gift and a present. Yes - there's a difference. A gift is more frivolous and simple, but a present is unique and takes a lot of love and thought. I always try and imagine what would make the person really happy - something they wouldn't buy for themselves, and something that is a true reflection of how I see them."

How to Deal When Your Kid Is Scared of Everything
Being a little person in a big world can be scary, but some kids are just a little more frightened than others. My 5-year-old daughter is one of them. She won't enter a dark room by herself. She still talks about the horror of Disney World's Seven Dwarves Mine Train - a ride so cool many little kids wait hours for the privilege of experiencing it - more than a year after riding it. She didn't go down the big slide at our favorite park until after her fifth birthday; her 2-year-old brother went down right after her.
Since I don't share her kind of general fearfulness, it's been hard to understand and occasionally awkward to parent her because of it. I'll admit to looking at her with disbelief and the occasional eye-roll when she refuses to go upstairs to her room after dark because only the hall lights, which totally illuminate her room as well, are on. "Seriously?!" has come out of my mouth a time or two when she's refused to do something that seems easy and fun (that slide is a good example) because she's scared of it.
Through the years, however, I've discovered a way to deal that both helps assuage her fears and makes me feel like I'm not enabling irrational behavior. Here's an easy plan for dealing with the scaredy cat in your life.
- Validate their emotions. Even if the fear is totally unreasonable, telling your kid that they're being silly or immature doesn't help. Instead, communicate that you understand how it feels to be afraid and that you're there to help.
- Talk them through it, if they're able. A 3-year-old probably won't be able to gain anything from a discussion about how they shouldn't be afraid of monsters because monsters aren't real. However, an older child like mine can benefit from talking through their fear, and a conversation can help you both better understand the root causes.
- Encourage, but don't push. If your child is afraid of doing something like riding a roller coaster or trying the climbing wall, be encouraging. Is it just the newness of the experience that's actually frightening them? However, if they are dead set against the experience, don't force them into it. With time, they might come around to it on their own, but pushing too soon is likely to cause a deeper fear.
- Don't let the fear control your actions. There is a difference between acknowledging a fear and enabling it. Drastically changing the way your family lives because your kid is scared of ghosts in the closet or amusement parks in general further validates that fear, ensuring that it will be around much longer.
- Remind them that it's your job to keep them safe. Whether your child is having an overly dramatic reaction to something small (a frequent occurrence in my house) or is majorly panicking about something bigger, it's vital to communicate to them that you are calm and in control of the situation and that you are more than capable of keeping them safe. Expressing doubt, confusion, or your own fear will only worsen a scary situation.
