5 Healthy Travel Hacks to Help You Stay on Track

Traveling isn't always as glamorous as it sounds. Long drives, cab rides, flights, hours in terminals, and the occasional jaunt through a train station can result in major stress - on the body and mind. For me, travel is a fact of my everyday life. The benefit of that, beyond frequent flyer miles and knowing how to pack very quickly, is knowing the simple tricks to staying healthy while on the go.

So how do you make sure your traveling doesn't interfere with your healthy habits? Here are my five best tips that you can start today to get back on track!

1. Bring Healthy Snacks With You

The stress of traveling can make you hungry, so it's a good idea to keep something on hand that will satisfy you. Let's be honest here, there aren't many healthy options on an airplane, so packing healthy snacks is your best bet. According to Toronto-based culinary nutritionist Keisha Luke, "Try to bring along some mixed nuts, low-sugar or naturally sweetened with raw honey, maple syrup, agave, or even dried fruit granola, protein balls (natural peanut butter, oatmeal, honey, and nuts), fruits, and opt for water when offered a beverage."

2. Wear Your Exercise Shoes

Heck, wear your sweats, too! Why? Because exercise clothes and shoes are never out of style, plus dressing for fitness means that you'll be more likely to walk to your destinations. You're also more likely to go check out the city, the gym, or the mall a few blocks away without calling a cab.

The more you walk during your time away from home, the better you will feel. Take the long way, take the stairs, whatever you've gotta do to keep moving, do it.

3. Order à la Carte

Most meals are already put together for you on many menus, and most of the time you'll have no idea what the calorie content is. Luke told us to keep it simple: "Order things you know are healthy. For dinners, pick a lean cut of meat and choose sides that are as simple as possible such as steamed veggies, brown rice, quinoa, or a side salad."

For lunches, choose turkey wraps, salads, or other lighter fare and opt for more simple dressings. Say no to fries as a side, and choose sliced tomatoes, cottage cheese, or even a small salad instead. Remember: there's no law that says you have to finish everything they put in front of you. We won't tell your mom, honest!

Breakfast can be tricky with all the sweet treats offered such as pancakes, french toast, and more, so choose wisely and go for good old eggs and oatmeal if you have to. Even a cup of yogurt can be a great option here.

For drinks, stick to water or unsweetened tea. If you drink alcohol, keep it to a minimum and choose wisely. No cola in your mixed drinks; go for unsweetened grapefruit juice or seltzer and lime as a mixer.

4. Bring Your Personal Trainer and Nutritionist With You

Literally! With today's technology making it possible, you can still travel and complete your sessions with a personal trainer or fitness apps. Either plan ahead with your trainer for some Skype sessions to stay on track, or as certified personal trainer Heather Neff told us, "Use LiftSession.com; all you need is a laptop or tablet and some WiFi (which is usually available and free at hotels) to get in a great workout."

Mobile personal trainer apps and sites allow you to connect with a live online personal trainer and never miss a workout while you are traveling. You can do it from the comfort of your own hotel room (or mom's guest bedroom).

You can do the same thing with your nutrition. Either seek out food delivery services that will get your meals to you no matter where you are, or seek out a culinary nutritionist in the city you plan on visiting to give your diet a new kick.

5. Do Your Best and Don't Dwell on a Mistake

You're traveling, after all. This is supposed to be an exciting time where you get to try new things and let loose a little. My best advice would be to never eat two bad meals in a row, keep moving as much as you can, and enjoy your time away. In addition to that, try to de-stress and have a little fun. You deserve it.

Carrie Fisher Thought of the Perfect Obituary For Herself Years Ago

Carrie Fisher passed away this week at the age of 60, but her legacy will live on forever. You might think we're referring to her iconic role as Princess Leia, but we're actually talking about her razor-sharp wit, wicked sense of humor, and brazen attitude. Many know Carrie Fisher for her work as a producer, her openness about mental illness, and her affluent work as a writer. Interestingly enough, one of the most poignant examples of Carrie's satirical nature comes in the form of an excerpt from her 2008 memoir Wishful Drinking, in which she shares a story from the set of Star Wars and muses about a "fantastic" obituary.

According to the passage in the book, Carrie originally wore that memorable white Princess Leia dress with a bra underneath, but director George Lucas didn't approve. Carrie wrote, "George comes up to me the first day of filming and he takes one look at the dress and says, 'You can't wear a bra under that dress.' So, I say, 'Okay, I'll bite. Why?' And he says, 'Because . . . there's no underwear in space.'" Carrie continued, saying that George Lucas later explained why underwear in space simply wasn't logical. "What happens is you go to space and you become weightless. So far so good, right? But then your body expands??? But your bra doesn't - so you get strangled by your own bra. Now I think that this would make for a fantastic obit - so I tell my younger friends that no matter how I go, I want it reported that I drowned in moonlight, strangled by my own bra." Look no further for proof that we've suffered a great loss.

This Hilarious Video Perfectly Sums Up the Differences Among All Latin American Accents

Latinos, we're all so close and similar, but also so different. Case in point: our accents. We can barely understand each other sometimes even if we're all speaking the same language - throw Brazilian Portuguese in the mix, and we really have a miscommunication problem. From the superquick Dominican accent to the winded Mexican one, every country has its own regional quirks. And though we all think we have the best way of speaking Spanish, maybe none of us does. This hilarious video from The Flama might have proven that. Watch the brilliant clip above to hear funny girl Joanna Hausmann imitate Latin American accents, and get ready to laugh out loud. My Kid Crawled Out of His Crib - Now What?!

The first time it happened, I didn't even know it. We were in the last throes of an afternoon party at our house, complete with about 16 kids ages 8 and under, when I put my exhausted 2-year-old down for his nap, hours later than usual. He seemed more than ready, but 10 minutes later, he appeared at my feet.

I assumed my husband must have heard him crying and took him out, but instead of finding him among the chaos that was my house to confirm, I marched my little one back upstairs and tucked him in again. Five minutes later, with my husband in eyesight, he appeared again. "How did you get out of bed?" I asked him, genuinely confused. Was there a trap door I didn't know about? Was one of the older kids helping him?

He sweetly shrugged his shoulders and gave me the most innocent expression a kid who regularly Hulk smashes me possibly could. "I don't know." "Buddy, you need to tell me how you got out of your bed," I pushed. "I show you," he replied, grabbing me by the hand and leading me to his room. He had me place him back in his crib, then quickly swung a leg over one side. "I go over," he explained, in basic toddler-ese. "Then I drop." He landed on an ottoman near his crib. "Then I jump down, and I out!" Well, sh*t.

The reviews were mixed about what to do next.

No nap was had that day, but as I was lucky to have a few friends on hand who had been through similar experiences with their kids. (My oldest never mustered the courage to escape from her crib.) The reviews were mixed about what to do next. One friend told me her doctor had insisted she immediately put her son in a big-boy bed after the first time he crawled out of his crib. However, he was 19 months old and barely talking; my son had a full year and basic conversational understanding on him.

Another told me I should expect regular middle-of-the-night visits; once her daughter crawled out of the crib, she couldn't get through a night without one. A third friend, pregnant with her third child and lugging around her 1-year-old, nudged me. "Does this mean I can have your crib for this one?" she asked, pointing at her belly.

I wasn't sure. Yes, I understood that there were dangers associated with my toddler scaling crib walls and jumping down to the floor. But wasn't the danger of losing my sanity higher if a big-boy bed also meant the end of his delicious two-hour afternoon naps? As a mom who prizes sleep - my kids' and my own - over pretty much everything else, rocking the boat by putting a consistently good sleeper in a new bed seemed ridiculous.

I decided to go with a wait-and-see philosophy. A month later, my kid hasn't broken any bones during his crib escapes, which he uses as an exit strategy about 10 percent of the time. Mostly, he still calls for me or his dad and waits until we get him. And his napping? Well, it's stayed awesome, eliminating most of my motivation to make the big-bed transition.

As I was rocking him to sleep the other night (I said his napping was good; going to sleep each night is a whole different story), he started telling me how he wants to be big. "I grow and grow, and then I'll be big like Daddy," he said. "You are growing, buddy, but if you get too big, we're going to have to get you a big-boy bed, and Mommy and Daddy won't rock you in the chair anymore," I explained. The kid loves his chair cuddles.

His face scrunched up. "It OK, Mommy," he said. "I stay little." For now, that's my answer.

The 1 Thing Most People Forget to Donate to Animal Shelters

People often tell me how much they love animals and ask what they can do to help them. The obvious is to donate money to shelters and animal charities, but there is more you can do beyond that. Another thing you can do is donate your time by walking dogs or fostering them, but what if those just don't seem like the right fit for you? We asked Rocky Kanaka, host and creator of Save Our Shelter, what else people could possibly do to help, and as an expert in this arena, he had several suggestions.

"I always encourage people to think of what they enjoy," he said. Start by considering what you love and what you're good at. Maybe you take photos in your spare time. Call up a shelter and ask if they need someone to photograph the animals for adoption to put on the website. If it's something you excel at, chances are you'll take a quality photo that will help get that animal adopted. If you're an accountant, see if you can donate your services to a shelter.

Rocky points out that the thing about animal shelters is that they're very community oriented. "It's a neat community opportunity to get involved in your hometown," he said. "They're really a reflection of the community." So many people can get involved, because it takes skills and effort from so many people.

On the list of tangible items Rocky says most shelters need the most are:

  1. Vet care services
  2. Paper towels
  3. Cleaning supplies
  4. Office supplies
  5. Cat litter

"No one ever thinks of cat litter, because it's not as fun of a donation, but shelters always, always need it," Rocky said. "It's probably what shelters need the most."

Next time you want to pitch in with your local shelter, think outside the box and consider donating your skills or maybe cat litter. Anything like that would be more than appreciated.

How to Organize a Small Pantry in 20 Minutes or Less

Having a clean kitchen starts with an organized pantry, but that can seem like such a daunting, time-sucking task. Some (myself included) avoid it until the crumbs, the jumbled piles of snacks, and whatnot become too unbearable to avert any longer. I Konmaried my kitchen (and whole house) about a year ago, a process that involves intense purging, and even though I gutted the place and neatly positioned each item that "sparked joy," I've discovered the junk does occasionally find its way back into my shelves with each birthday, Christmas, and shopping haul. But that's OK, because I know how to zap it before things get too out of control. You will too with these simple tips.

*Keep in mind, this process may take around 20 minutes if you have a small pantry like mine (about 4 feet squared) and much longer if you have a walk-in pantry.

  1. Remove every single item in your pantry. Place them on your kitchen counter or on a table.
  2. Wipe down the shelves of the pantry with a warm, damp sponge.
  3. Toss expired and/or opened foods that you haven't eaten recently. Donate any unopened, unexpired foods (that you will never plan on eating) to a food bank. If you're having trouble deciding to keep something or not, hold the item and look at it. If it gives you a sinking, nagging feeling, toss it or donate it. Keep the foods that make you flutter with excitement and hunger at the sight.
  4. Group like items before putting them back in the pantry. For instance, group oil together, cereals together, beans, snacks, etc.
  5. Consider which items you use the most frequently and position those in the easiest-to-reach area of the pantry. For my roommate and me, we're big tea drinkers, so I moved all of our tea and coffee items to the prime spot in the pantry. Save the top shelves (that are harder to reach) for bulkier items that you use less frequently. For me, that's oils, vinegars, dried beans, etc.
  6. Scan the pantry, and make sure you can see all the items you've stashed. Otherwise, they may get lost and forgotten about once again. Even though the shelves of my pantry are deep, I'm only using a few inches. I've positioned each of the jars and bags toward the end of the shelves with the labels facing outward. I can clearly see and read exactly what I have in my pantry plus this particular technique gives the pantry a naturally attractive appearance (no baskets, lazy Susans, or organizing equipment necessary)

Keep Your Fridge Fresh by Organizing It Better

Who says you can't start resolutions before the year is over? We've compiled a list of 51 foodie resolutions to check off, including this helpful tip.

Guilty of losing items in your fridge only to find them months later growing fur? Part of avoiding food from growing the all-too-familiar mold is by making sure your fridge is cleanly organized and every item is in plain view. You don't need a fancy fridge to make this happen, but rather take a look at this table that will help you organize your fridge by shelf.

MAIN FRIDGE
SIDE DOOR
On the top shelf, which is usually the tallest, place bottled beverages and a filtered water jug. On the side door's top shelf, place butter and blocks of cheese.
On the second shelf, stack leftovers in plastic containers on one side. On the other side, store deli meat, bread, and eggs in their original container. On the second side door shelf, group small condiments together by type, i.e. jellies and mustards.
On the bottom shelf, store milk, yogurt, sour cream, and cottage cheese on one half. On the other side, store all raw meats. On the third side door shelf, group international condiments like Italian sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and Asian curry pastes.
In the low-humidity drawer, divide and organize fruit by type. Avoid storing dense fruit like apples on top of delicate fruit like berries. In a fourth side door shelf, group larger jars together by type, such as bouillon pastes, miso pastes, nut butters, and pickles.
In a high-humidity (crisper) drawer, divide and organize vegetables by type. Avoid storing dense veggies on top of delicate greens. In the tallest bottom side-door shelf, place tall bottles of condiments including ketchup and soy sauce and any other large juice bottles or nondairy milks.

Proof You Don't Need to Be a Runner to Participate in a 10K

Zumba, Pilates, and cardio kickboxing are just a few of my fitness favorites. I even live for Bodyweb with TRX or Bosu Bootcamp at my local Crunch. And over the years, I've survived many Core Fusion classes. But running? It's never been my speed.

I've always admired the dedicated runners at Prospect Park in my Brooklyn neighborhood with their earbuds intact, wearing the cutest gear. They never seem to be struggling or breaking a sweat at any point during their run. It appears to come easy to them. I, on the other hand, am of the power walking set.

Imagine the mixed emotions I felt when I agreed to walk the 10K portion of the 16th annual Reggae Marathon as a guest of the Jamaican Tourism Board. I was elated to explore Jamaica for the very first time (reggae is one of my favorite genres of music, after all), but there was an undeniable sense of anxiety about not being an avid runner. I felt like an impostor. Just the thought of walking while other participants zoomed past me on the course made me feel defeated. Regardless, I tried my best to ignore my reservations and learned a few lessons about how to achieve a fitness goal.

Confidence Is Everything

Challenges are part of life - even when it comes to fitness. Building the stamina to endure the 10K walk in the Reggae Marathon was far from easy for me. I found it within myself to stay motivated to cross the finish line and took comfort in knowing I've overcome an endless number of challenges in the past. This one was no different. I certainly didn't approach the start line at 5:15 a.m. to fail. The energy from participants who were cheering each other on before the race, smiling with excitement, and snapping photos to document their experience made the event that much more special.

But I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge a few mental games I had to play to maintain momentum on the course. "You can do it, Monique" and "you're nearly there" were just a few affirmations I rehearsed in my mind to keep moving.

Embrace Your Purpose

Participating in the Reggae Marathon was my way of supporting the event's mission: to showcase long-distance running as a sport in Jamaica, help advance the tourism industry and the country's education system, and indulge in the country's culture filled with great food and music. These were more than enough reasons to sport my bib number proudly.

Be Open-Minded

It pays to let go of expectations when you encounter a new adventure. It was my very first time in Jamaica and I'd never participated in a race. I had no idea what to expect. While I felt like an imposter walking, I came to terms with my reality and ended up connecting with a group of women from Black Girls RUN!, which encourages African-American women in their quest to stay healthy and fit. A few of these women would come to be my walking partners and support system. Along the course, we shared our passion for travel, baking, and shopping abroad, which made the time pass quickly.

Remember to Have Fun

What's more fun than working out on a beautiful island? It's a win all around. The Reggae Marathon, which was parallel to the popular Seven-Mile Beach, was the perfect opportunity to enjoy some fun. The route, which was pretty flat, featured a mix of small bands and stereos that played reggae to motivate marathoners along the way. Every point felt like winning the marathon in my book. It gave me the extra boost I needed to walk to the next mile.

Along with the Reggae Marathon, I was able to indulge in the full Jamaican experience during my time in both Negril and Montego Bay. I enjoyed yoga with an ocean view, rafting at Martha Brae River, authentic Jamaican food at Murphy's and Scotchie's, and a few nights of dancing into the early morning hours with the most down-to-earth group of journalists, who also traveled to Jamaica for the very first time. The amount of gut-wrenching laughs we shared together is truly priceless.

Celebrate Your Achievement

There was one instance where I slowed down a bit (the 3 a.m. wake-up call started to hit me), but one of my walking partners from Black Girls RUN! was right by my side to give me the extra push I needed to keep going. Despite my body's need for rest, I kept pushing until I spotted the sign for the 10K turn. I was finally at the halfway mark and it felt akin to winning the lottery (not that I've ever won more than a few dollars from scratch-offs). I finally made it to the finish line after nearly two hours of power walking (my time was 1:51:32 to be exact). I couldn't have been happier.

I celebrated with a few other journalists who came along for the trip, who finished after about an hour of running, by enjoying the vendors and entertainment in Long Bay Beach Park. We drank fresh coconut water, enjoyed jerk chicken and relaxed on the beach, recapping the day and our accomplishments. It was an amazing experience.

If the opportunity arises next year, I'd love to return to the Reggae Marathon - but, hopefully, this time as a runner. People from all walks of life and ages came together that day for just a few hours, but the memories and lessons I learned during my trip will last a lifetime.

First, she sat in beauty adviser AJ Hayden's chair to get a party-ready makeup look. "It's all updating the smoky eye, but make sure it glistens to give it that '20s feel," Hayden explained. Complete the look with strong brows and a nude lip. "Do your eye makeup first," she recommended. "Then do your foundation. That way you won't get fallout under your eyes."

Next, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa's Creative Director and National Director of Hair, Woody Michleb, showed us how to transform long blond hair into an easy-to-DIY finger wave faux bob. So get out your hair clips, plug in your flat iron, and keep reading.

5 Crazy Things That Could Happen on Riverdale (Based on the Archie Comics)

In January, a new dark and twisty series will premiere on The CW. It's called Riverdale, and it's all about a group of high school teenagers in a small town who are trying to cope after the death of a classmate. Perhaps the strangest aspect of the show is that it's actually based on the Archie Comics. Truth be told, it looks like a much darker take on the lives of the wholesome redhead and his gang of friends, but when you look at the source material, there's more than meets the eye. Join us for a deep dive into a few intriguing aspects of the Archie Comics universe and the surprising gems it holds.

PLL's Troian Bellisario on the No-Makeup Trend: "The Reverse Terrifies Me"

Whether you've watched every episode of Pretty Little Liars or just two minutes, tops, it won't take long to realize Troian Bellisario - aka Spencer Hastings on the show - is insanely cool. Much like her character, she's a power woman, but with a more laid-back sense of style, a passion for film and fitness, and the ability to throw the boho wedding of our dreams. It makes sense that the natural beauty would partner with Burt's Bees, promoting its earth-friendly products and the #BringBackTheBees campaign.

As Troian toured the brand's headquarters, we chatted with her via phone, asking her opinion on minimal makeup and the no-makeup movement. "We live in a world where the reverse of that is more terrifying to me," she said. "It's not that I have to support the no-makeup look, but we're getting to a point where there's so much insane contouring just for people to go out and get coffee so that they can take a picture of themselves on social media. That terrifies me. I don't want to live in a world where that's the expectation to be beautiful."

Read on for more of Troian's thoughts on the natural look, her skincare routine, and why the makeup you see on TV isn't what it seems.

Keep Colds at Bay With Chicken Noodle Soup

A few days ago, my good friend made me an incredible, soothing bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup when I was feeling sick. I swooned at the natural creaminess, intoxicating flavors, and perfectly cooked shredded chicken. She sent me home with a quart of leftovers, but I finished it fast and still craved more of this traditionally healing soup.

Although food cooked for you by other people always tastes better, this recipe is quite delicious and worthy of making for yourself, friends, and family, especially as cold season approaches.

Make your own chicken noodle soup.

25 Times We Wanted The Rock to Babysit Our Kids

When we heard the news that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is expecting a baby, we were thrilled but not at all surprised. It's clear he's been prepping for his role as dad for awhile now. And his Instagram feed is proof. From too-cute videos of him secretly helping a little girl "pull an airplane" all by herself to sweet snaps of his pint-size fans, we'd long been wondering: what's his babysitting rate?

Seriously, this guy is a triple threat: he can wrestle and he can act, but he's a true natural when it comes to kids. From playing patty-cake between takes of an action scene to cleaning up after a lazy Santa Claus, he is the ultimate family man - one we hope won't mind us calling Papa Rock from here on out.

Although we've resigned ourselves to the fact that he won't likely start a career in babysitting (being a Hollywood heavyweight and a doting dad is a lot of work!), we hope he'll reconsider. Now, some adorably convincing reasons.

Amanda's Secret to Losing Over 100 Pounds Wasn't a Diet

Our next Before & After story comes from Amanda Fraijo-Tobin, who blogs about life after losing 130 pounds on her blog Friday Love Song, which is part of our POPSUGAR Select Fitness network. Below, she shares how she lost the weight and how she keeps it off.

Amanda: Before

Growing up, I wasn't severely overweight - sure, I had a pudgy stage, but a lot of people did! My weight wasn't something I thought much about being a kid (as it shouldn't be). My parents had good intentions, like most, but we certainly did not grow up eating very healthy. Snacks, soda, meals prepared without nutritional aspects considered. Soda became a very bad habit for me, especially as I got into my teens and didn't have anyone stopping me from drinking so many.

Fast-forward to high school - like most high school girls, I thought I was fat. Even though, in retrospect, I clearly wasn't. I didn't let it consume my life, though I was a little on the chubby side (so I thought) and I was OK with that. Looking back, I think senior year is when the trouble began for me. Stress, changes in my life, poor eating, and not exercising (hello, gym-class-not-required-after-ninth-grade!) led me to pack on some weight. Again, I already felt like a "fat girl," so I kept going with the mind-set of "This is me - this is who I am." I was married young, had my first child at 20, and of course, packed on more weight. Divorced, remarried, and two more babies later - more weight.

My weight wasn't something I paid attention to. I never weighed myself. The only time anyone took my weight was maybe once or twice a year when I had a doctor's visit - and even then, I didn't think much about it. This is me - this is who I am . . .

Amanda: Before

My husband is a type 2 diabetic. He had already been on tons of medications for several years to control his blood sugar and other problems associated with the disease. He got to the point of having to add insulin injections to his enormous list of meds. His doctor kept urging him to consider weight-loss surgery, telling him that, if he lost some weight, there was a possibility he may be able to stop taking some of his medications. This seemed like a great solution to my husband - I, on the other hand, disagreed. I told him repeatedly, this wasn't the solution. If you don't break bad habits that got you to a certain point, you could not possibly make a real change.

Insert light bulb moment. Pot calling kettle black. Even though it wasn't something I monitored, I was surely at the heaviest point of my life. I was waking up to get my son to school and collapsing on the couch for a nap once he was off. I was having random pains in my foot. I felt gross. I knew I needed to start making changes. I needed to make changes for myself, but also for my husband, for my kids. I needed to be a better example. This wasn't about vanity. This was about life, making a better life for myself and my family.

I knew this wasn't going to be easy. I had packed on the weight over the course of 10 years. I knew it was going to take some time to take it back off. I knew there would be times I would feel like quitting. But from the start, I adopted a "Today I will do what I can" kind of attitude. This went for exercise as well as eating habits. I knew all my bad eating habits were not going to disappear overnight. Slowly but surely, I made mental lists of things I was doing that were awful for my body and thought of ways to change them. Drink more water, read labels of items I was eating, etc. I had been having such severe pains in my heel that some days I could not even walk on it. Some days, I may not get through an entire workout like I wanted to - that's OK. Today I will do what I can.

Amanda: After

I chose not to be vocal about my weight-loss journey from the start. I didn't mention it to friends. My husband and my father were about the only people who knew what I was trying to accomplish. There were many days of whining on my part to my husband about aches and pains from making my body do things it wasn't used to doing. I admit I have no idea for sure what my starting weight was. I have a general idea based on the last time I had been weighed at the doctors - but my journey began about six months, and what I'm guessing, may even be more pounds later. I did not start out with a goal weight in mind. I didn't want one. I wanted to be healthier. Period. Healthy is not pounds on a scale. This is not a short fix; this is a change I will continue to make for the rest of my life.

How Did I Do It?

This is common sense, things we have heard a million times again and again. Change the way you eat. Exercise. Repeat. It's amazing to me when people want to know my "secret." I have no secret. And I find it even funnier when people feel let down by my answer. There is no magic pill. I have not dieted. I have not counted calories. I knew from the start that was not the way I wanted to live my life. This is a lifestyle change. Know that it's going to be challenging, but have faith that you can make the changes you want to.

Amanda: After

About two years later now and around 125 to 135 pounds down, here I am. Still chugging along. Still making it part of my life to make better decisions for my own as well as my family's health. Honestly, I still feel a little silly writing this. I have had people tell me that they think I am an inspiration, which blows my mind. But I am here to tell you: if I can do this, you can do this. All it takes is a true commitment. Am I a superfit person? No, of course not. But every day, I strive to be a little better. I am a real person who did this. I am a mom to three children with a full-time job, a husband, two dogs, and a million other things going on. It takes work. It takes time. But you can do this. Start today, one small change at a time. This is me - this is who I am. Today I will do what I can. Will you?

Harrison Ford Remembers the "One-of-a-Kind," "Emotionally Fearless" Carrie Fisher

In the wake of Carrie Fisher's heartbreaking death this week, it seems Hollywood is deep in mourning. Almost immediately, reactions began pouring in from scores of celebrities and former Star Wars costars, but perhaps the most heartbreaking words came from Fisher's old flame Harrison Ford. In a new official statement, the actor said, "Carrie was one-of-a-kind . . . brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life bravely . . . My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her Mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends. We will all miss her." Ford had previously offered words of love and support after Fisher suffered a heart attack just before Christmas. The two last rejoined on screen for Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens.

Um, People in Mexico Are Getting Scorpion Manicures - as in With Real Scorpions

Just when we thought we had seen it all, Mexico's popular scorpion manicure - the art of applying small scorpions to the nails, painting over them with acrylic, and letting them dry under UV light, creating a fossil of sorts - popped up in our news feed.

The dangerous mani first became popular back in October 2015 after scorpion connoisseur Lupita Garcia, who is based in Durango, Mexico, and her nail salon owner friend, Rocío Vidales, created the unique (and borderline-crazy) trend.

Though the critters are killed before being applied to the nail, anyone daring enough to try this nail trend is still exposing themselves to all the side effects of scorpion venom, including swelling, accelerated heart rate, and even death.

Would you try it? Watch the history behind the madness unfold in the video above, and then see the process in action.

If You Prefer Emily Ratajkowski's Bikinis, You Obviously Haven't Seen Her Baywatch Suit

Her red Solid & Striped design was fitted and sleek, with not a cutout in sight, and the plunging neckline was a touch sexy - very simple, very effortless, very Baywatch. Emily completed her look with a dainty chain necklace, allowing us full focus on her one-piece. While clearly, most of her pals prefer classic tops and bottoms, Emily is making a case for coverage at the beach. Read on for a look, then shop similar silhouettes for yourself.
