To All the Moms Who Hate When I Call My Dog My "Baby"

I'm the mother of two amazing baby girls. One is an adorable 7-month-old who loves hearing the sound of her own squeals and is rightfully obsessed with water faucets. The other is a 2-year-old spitfire who, when not running around in circles, is always up for a cuddle. One is a human baby, and the other is a "fur baby." There, I said it. One of my babies is a dog.

A very opinionated mom spoke out recently against people like me, parents who dare to call our dogs our babies. And she made some valid points.

No, I didn't give birth to my puppy. No, the fact that I adopted her does not count, and I better not ever make that comparison again. No, my dog can't say "I wuv you, Mommy" or take care of me when I'm old. No, last I checked, I can't drop humans off at doggie day care. And, no, my dog technically isn't a "person."

But, hell yes, my dog is my baby.*

In fact, it wasn't until the first week with my new puppy that I decided I wanted to be a mom at all. A mom to a human baby, that is. Before my dog Moose, I never felt that maternal love, that mothering sensibility that only came when my husband and I welcomed this tiny creature into our home. Our hearts opened up in a way we never thought possible, and like a drug, we were intoxicated and wanted more. So now Moose has a younger sister.

I've gotten my share of eye rolls for calling Moose my daughter's sibling or for telling my mother-in-law that she was actually already a grandmother by the time my human baby was born, and I can certainly appreciate the ridiculousness of that. (I'm reasonable, I swear.) But, I've gotten tired of hearing so many fellow moms grossly trivializing the relationship a parent can have with her pet.

Moose isn't just a domesticated animal we let live in our house. For my family, she serves a far greater purpose. My dog, often to her own detriment, has trained me to be a better mom. I've made more mistakes than I'd like to admit with Moose (the classic first-born child!), but I have her to thank for teaching me some of the greatest lessons I could ever learn as a parent, namely that . . .

1. You're able to make sacrifices more graciously.
Moose forced me to change, and I accepted the challenge, even if it put a damper on my social life - spontaneity was a thing of the past, date nights involved the help of an expensive dog walker, and conversations revolved around house-training and which neighborhood had the best obedience schools. The only difference with a human baby is those conversations take place on a playdate, not at the local dog park.

2. You won't always get it right the first time.
When we first brought Moose home, we had a cozy crate all set up for her. Too bad she hated it. She cried every night until finally, my husband and I broke down and let her sleep in bed with us. And she's never left. Because of Moose, we made sure to keep the human baby in her crib - as much as we understand the allure of cosleeping, our bed just wasn't big enough for one more.

3. You're more aware of your bad behavior.
I have a temper, and before my daughter was born, I'd yell. Loudly. I assumed it was only my husband who suffered my wrath until one evening, I saw Moose, quivering under our dining room table. Her big, sad eyes spoke volumes, and, now, every time I start to raise my voice, I think of her face. It's one I hope to never see on my daughter's.

4. You'll eventually chill out.
When you're type A, the adjustment to dog ownership is intense. You quickly learn you can't have nice things, or, if you insist on having nice things, they'll likely be peed on, chewed up, and covered in dog hair. This wasn't easy for me, but it primed me for my daughter, who now gets a mom who actually enjoys making a complete mess of carrot puree.

5. You can't take a time-out.
When I was pregnant, we just moved to a new city, and Moose was acting out. I felt that I had enough on my plate, so I let her bad behavior slide. I'm still paying for it.

6. You will never, ever stop caring.
Too many people warned me that I wouldn't care as much about Moose when my human baby was born. Instead, I love her more than I ever did and, dare I say, equally to my daughter. For all of Moose's issues (and she's got a few), I love her unconditionally, without caveat or constraint.

And as I type this, my two babies are playing on the floor. The human baby tugs on the fur baby's ear until the fur baby jerks her head away and gives me a knowing look. You're right: my dog will never be able to tell me what she's thinking. But the truth is, she doesn't have to.

*It doesn't hurt that the pup in question is a 13-pound Boston Terrier mix who loves to be kissed on the nose and carried in the cradle position.

2 Holiday Hair Ideas That Will Make You Glad You Went Natural

Dressing up natural hair for the holiday season can be a challenge, especially if your locks fall into TWA (teeny-weeny afro) territory. That's why we enlisted the help of celebrity hairstylist Ursula Stephen, who has worked with stars like Rihanna, Kerry Washington, and Rita Ora, to create two new formal party styles for coarse and curly hair textures.

The first is a remix on the classic mohawk style that will give your outfit funky flair, while the second look is reminiscent of Elvis's epic pompadour. Even if you have only a few inches of hair you can pull off these looks with a little help from kinky extensions (yes, afro weave is a thing). Either style will stand out as an original next to the classic chignons and french twists at your next seasonal shindig.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony's Best Performances Will Leave You Seriously Shipping Them

When Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony performed together (and kissed) at the Latin Grammy Awards in November 2016, the internet collectively lost it. It's not necessarily that everyone wanted J Lo and Marc to get back together (though, we'll bet most did), but it was the idea of seeing them collaborate on music again, performing on stage with all their crazy chemistry, that got us excited.

The former couple, who divorced in 2014 and have 8-year-old twins Max and Emme, gave us classics like "No Me Ames" and "Por Arriesgarnos," so, of course, we listened carefully when they debuted their new single, a remake of Pimpinela's "Olvídame y Pega la Vuelta" from Jennifer's upcoming Spanish album. They made us so nostalgic for other J Lo and Marc moments, we rounded up six of their best performances through the years. Warning: you'll probably finish this slideshow by saying, "But they are a great couple!"

It Took Me 12 Months to Get Over Having a C-Section

At 28, I had a completely uneventful first pregnancy with zero complications. My doctor visits were short and sweet and the only major complaint I had was heartburn. Naturally (or naively), I was expecting the same (epidural-aided) smooth sailing for my delivery. So, despite being well aware of the c-section rates, I was absolutely blindsided when after 21 hours of labor I ended up being rushed down the hallway to the OR for an emergency c-section. It was the scariest few minutes of my life.

It goes without saying that I am beyond thankful that it ended the way it did, with a healthy baby boy, but I could have never anticipated the flood of complicated emotions that followed. I would have loved to say that I didn't care how he got here and that it didn't matter because he was here. I mean, I did say that out loud a lot. But I didn't believe it at the time.

I wish I had felt totally OK with having a c-section like some people do, but I didn't.

In the days and weeks and months following my son's birth, I thought so much about how he got here. I thought about how it could have ended differently if a million things had happened differently. I replayed all the events in my mind. What if I let the doctor induce me when I was overdue instead of sticking it out? Would I have had a "normal birth" then? What if I told them no when they started me on Pitocin? Blame the Pitocin! But also, what if I didn't have a c-section? What if something terrible happened?

Of course, none of those scenarios matter. It was what it was, but that didn't change the overwhelming emotions that I carried with me as I navigated my first year as a mother.

I'm sure part of it was the "normal" hormonal rollercoaster that many women experience after giving birth, but on top of that extreme joy and weepiness, I also felt sadness, anger, and grief that lasted well beyond the two week "baby blues." I felt like while I was relishing in the bliss of welcoming my perfect baby boy, I was also mourning the loss of a "normal" delivery. I cried about his birth being traumatic and scary rather than exciting and beautiful like it's "supposed to be." I replayed the days and hours leading up to his birth in my mind, trying to pinpoint where things could have taken a different turn. And then I felt guilty for even thinking about it, since I was holding a perfectly healthy baby in my arms.

The cycle went on and on. Those rational thoughts were immediately followed by sadness that I didn't get that "moment" right when he was born that I had imagined, that I had visualized so many times in that last month of pregnancy. Instead I was left on an operating table calling out to anyone who would answer me wondering if my son was healthy, wondering what he looked like. I was so traumatized by the experience and so drugged up from the morphine that I declined to nurse him and didn't even hold him for the first time until the next day.

When I finally did hold him and look into his little eyes, it was magical, but it also broke my heart. I felt guilty for passing him off to be bottle-fed hours after his birth; I felt robbed that his grandparents all held him before I did.

Of course, I barely said any of this out loud to anyone besides my husband. To friends, I joked about still having a perfectly intact vagina (one of the very few perks of having c-section!). I shrugged off people's "I'm sorrys" and deflated "ohs" when they heard how he was born and acted like I didn't care, like it didn't matter.

I didn't believe it at the time, but it didn't matter. And it still doesn't. It took me almost a year to really accept that, to let the grief and sadness fade away and to convince myself that it was OK, and that I was OK with it. I finally believe it when I say that it doesn't matter how my son got here, because he's here. He's healthy and he's alive and so am I. It may not have been the experience I had envisioned or anticipated, but his birth was still the most special, important, life-changing day of my 30 years.

And even now, as I anticipate the birth of my second child, I've made peace with the fact that I may still not have the birth experience that I originally hoped for – and that's OK. Because now I know that with time, that single day will eventually be replaced by days and days of joy and milestones and memories that shine so much brighter than any amount of sadness ever could.

Chrissy Teigen Just Wore Every Girl's Favorite Street Style Shoe - For the First Time

"Wait, really?" we thought to ourselves as we tapped through Chrissy Teigen's Snapchat story. "Chrissy Teigen's never worn low-top sneakers on the street?" It's hard to believe, since fellow supermodels Gigi Hadid and Karlie Kloss work them almost every day. But alas, Chrissy slipped into the functional Adidas footwear for the first time on a trip to Disney, inspired by her new Disney x Coach bag.

But when it came to putting together her outfit, how'd she do? We'd give her an A+, of course. Chrissy wore her go-to denim cutoffs with a tight black tank, sheer duster coat, and choker, proving she too has got this whole casual look on lock. Read on for another peek, then shop the shoes that you might see Chrissy in a lot more often.

How to Eat If You're Trying to Lose Weight, According to a Dietitian

Like most people trying to lose weight, I listened to the experts. Instead of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I started scheduling meals and snacks so I was eating five or six times a day. This worked out to noshing on something every couple hours - 7 a.m. breakfast, 9 a.m. snack, 12 p.m. lunch, 3 p.m. snack, 5:30 p.m. dinner, and sometimes a late-night snack. The purpose was to ensure my hunger was satiated to prevent feeling so famished at each meal that I'd overeat. But then I realized I was eating all day long and never feeling hungry. I was also not losing weight. I was watching the clock instead of listening to my body. So which is better?

When I asked certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD of Whole Health Nutrition to answer that question, she said, "It's better to eat when you are hungry. This is the concept of mindful eating." Every time you go to put something in your mouth, ask yourself if you are hungry.

She also adds that it's important to know what hunger is, since feeling hungry is important for weight loss. "Some people have stomach growling, some have salivation and increased food thought." Being aware of the hunger scale will help you decide when it's time to eat. You want to eat when you're at about a three on the hunger scale, feeling hungry with a growling belly. And the important thing here is to eat enough until you're at about a six on the hunger scale, where you feel satisfied but not stuffed or tired from eating too much.

Eating when you're hungry and eating just enough to feel satiated is the key. So instead of watching the clock and eating exactly at certain times of the day, eat when your body tells you it's ready to eat. That might mean eating three times a day, and that might mean eating six times a day.

Leslie does say that, "I think if you are a person who is a meal skipper or someone who doesn't really feel that hungry, setting times is a good idea." Some people forget to eat because they're so busy, or their work schedule only allows them to take breaks at certain times, so for these instances, it's important to schedule snacks and meals. But overall, if you're schedule allows for it, "go for the hunger/mindful eating approach."

10 Thoughts All Regular Gym-Goers Have in January

For regular gym-goers, January is the most dreaded time of the year. It's the time when people recover from their New Year's Eve hangovers, swear they're never going to drink again, and decide that this is going to be the year they actually follow through on their fitness New Year's resolutions! While we have the utmost respect for those who want to start fresh with their fitness goals, the frustration of an overly crowded gym is something all regulars know way too well. Keep reading to see some hilarious January gym thoughts we have while trying to weed through all the newbies, and if you are new to the gym, check out these tips for making it less intimidating.

6 Workouts You'll Be Obsessing Over in 2017

New year, new goals, new workouts! We're already seeing some trends emerge in fitness, giving us a solid indication of what kinds of workouts are going to be super popular in 2017. Haven't tried these yet? The coming year is the perfect time to experiment and find something new and awesome that you love. And while we don't see your favorite bootcamp or cycling classes losing any momentum, there are some up-and-comers that will totally dominate in the new year - we think you're going to love them!

1. Boxing

With the rise of boutique boxing studios and the addition of beginner classes to traditional boxing gyms, boxing will see an even bigger year in 2017 than it did in 2016. Bonus: you don't even have to jump in the ring to reap the benefits of this total-body exercise, as many studios are geared toward a no-contact style of fitness. And with added visibility from celebrities sharing their boxing workouts, we know that more women than ever will be hitting the heavy bags in the coming year. This anxiety-reducing, ultra-empowering workout is here to help you kick ass, take names, and have your healthiest year yet. Can't get to a boxing gym? Try this at-home cardio boxing workout from an Equinox trainer.

2. Megaformer (The Lagree Method)

Like Pilates on crack, a Megaformer class gives you an intense reformer workout that'll make your muscles shake, burn, and possibly hate you for the next 72 hours. The classes are rooted in the Lagree method, named after trainer and Megaformer creator Sebastien Lagree. The workout is HARD, but so, so good.

Celebrities like Bella Thorne and Lea Michele are regulars at the Studio MDR, a popular Lagree studio in Los Angeles, and we anticipate even more A-listers and fit influencers will be sharing their Megaformer workouts this coming year, too.

3. Dance Cardio

People want to move in a way that doesn't feel like exercise - and if the explosion of The Fitness Marshall's popularity was any indicator, dance cardio workouts are going to be more popular than ever this year. Studios are springing up in major metros, like The COMPANY in San Francisco and 305 Fitness in New York City, so get ready to dance your way through 2017. These classes feel more like a party than they do a workout. Get a 20-minute taste of dancing off the calories with this dance cardio bootcamp that you can do in your living room.

4. Mixed Format Classes

Speedplay, Orange Theory, Barry's Bootcamp, YAS - these classes all have one thing in common, and it's their hybrid format. They mix multiple workouts into one class! While in many classes you'll be on one machine or doing one particular style of exercise for 45-60 minutes, these studios deliver workouts that combine strength training and cardio, which is the most effective way to burn calories.

We talked to superstar trainer Jeanette Jenkins (you can check her out in action with this 30-minute cardio sculpt workout), and she had the same thought - these mixed format classes will be huge in the coming year. Why? "They prevent overuse [injury] on the joints of doing the exact same thing over and over again." She noted that studios like YAS and Speedplay "get it" and that other studios that offer a varied workout using various machines will keep fitness clients healthier in the long run.

Whether you like a combo of yoga and Spin in one class, a mixed format HIIT session, or a bootcamp-style training that combines multiple machines and floor work, there's something for everyone out there. And we're even more excited to see what else will pop up as this trend continues to build in 2017. Maybe a boxing-slash-Megaformer class??

5. Workout Apps

With ClassPass nixing the unlimited option, many users are needing to fill the void with another convenient, do-whenever, wherever-you-are workout. And how does one do that in a cost-effective way? With apps and at-home workouts.

Apps like Kayla Itsines's Sweat With Kayla and Nike Women's refreshed NTC saw a rise in popularity year, and we predict they'll do even better in 2017 - especially after Kayla told POPSUGAR in an interview earlier this year that exciting new updates were coming for the SWK app.

Newer apps like Aaptiv and Sworkit are building their followings, too, bringing on-demand training and coaching to your phone with a variety of workouts and styles to choose from. And as always, you can expect to see exciting new at-home workouts on the POPSUGAR Active app, too.

6. Live-Stream Classes

Welcome to the future. You don't have to live in a major metro to try new, exciting fitness classes anymore thanks to the rise of livestream video. Now, from anywhere in the world, you can bring the high-energy workout to you. Why stream Netflix when you could stream a high-intensity, body-transforming workout?

We're seeing the trend go from the DVD workouts to streaming workouts to livestream workouts - following in parallel to the rise of live-streaming on social media with platforms like Facebook Live and Periscope.

Brands like Peloton cycling are leading the charge for fitness, with goals of bringing that in-class energy and power to your solo at-home sweat sesh. Not every studio and brand is streaming live classes just yet, but we anticipate the shift will happen this year en masse. Many brands have been making general streaming available - FitFusion lets you take classes from Jillian Michaels or Tone It Up's Karena and Katrina; Barre3 brings the muscle-shaking studio class to your home with the ability to schedule your week just like you would with physical studio classes; New York's Ballet Beautiful lets you pay per stream/workout; and YogaGlo delivers at-home classes from world-renowned teachers like Kathryn Budig.

All of these examples show the promise of the rise of more live-streaming in 2017. And with the latest VR technology, who knows what could be next? We wouldn't mind a virtual reality dance cardio class!

The Top 10 New Year's Resolutions Parents Make and How Their Kids Kill Them

Resolutions are fun and exciting. They bring hope for change and improvement in the New Year. As a mother of three, I find it hard to even utter resolutions due to the chaotic nature of my life. If you have children, you know how hard it is to find the time for self improvement. Here are the top 10 resolutions parents make and my take on how children try to attack and foil said resolution.

Parent Resolution: I will stop yelling.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "I bet if I draw on this wall, Mom will scream like a lunatic. Anyone have a Sharpie? We can take turns drawing things."

Parent Resolution: I will lose weight.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Mom, can you buy me these cookies and candy bars? They are on sale, and I think you have a coupon."

Parent Resolution: I will sleep more.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Which one of us is going to pee the bed tonight and wake up mom to clean it up? Make sure to drink some extra water and sleep on the mattress without the rubber sheet."

Parent Resolution: I will exercise more.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "I want to ride my bike with you, and I will make sure to fall off at least 57 times while we are riding. I will cry and push my bike over so it is impossible for you to do any actual exercising."

Parent Resolution: I will go organic and cook all healthy meals.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Mom! Why are you trying to kill us? This food is awful and smells funny. Its all green and scaly. Why do you want to ruin my life?"

Parent Resolution: I will drink less.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "MOM! He is HITTING ME! Tell him to STOP IT! I am so bored. We don't have anything to do. What are you doing? Can I have a snack? Are you listening to me?"

Parent Resolution: I will get out of debt.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Mom, can I have a new PS4. Its only $450 and you get a free game. Plus I need new sneakers and a bike. Can we go out for dinner?"

Parent Resolution: I will rid my life of stress.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Why do you have to work? You are always working. Can you take me to my friend's house after soccer? I need to go to the library. Please wash this shirt so I can wear it to school tomorrow."

Parent Resolution: I will travel.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Mom, the teacher at school sent home a note that says there is an outbreak of lice and hand, foot, and mouth disease. What day is your cruise?"

Parent Resolution: I will volunteer at my children's school.

Kids Attack on Resolution: "Mom, Stacy said her mom said that you dress funny when you come to my class. She wants to know why you wear your pajamas outside of the house. She asked if you need help or something."

Stand strong. Resolutions are a good way to bring about change in your life. Children can cause a few hiccups in your plans, but stay the course. Just remember that each day brings a new opportunity for improvement. Instead of yelling at your child for drawing with a Sharpie on your wall, look at it as though they just created new wall art for everyone to enjoy. Even if it looks like a penis, you can call it modern impressionism.

3 Ways Breakfast Can Help You Lose Weight

Some people think skipping breakfast is a great weight-loss tactic. The logic being that they're cutting calories out of their daily intake; unfortunately, it doesn't work out that way. Most people will make up for the calories later on in the day. Eating a meal in the morning can actually help you reach your weight-loss goal, and here are three reasons why.

  1. Breakfast jump-starts your metabolism: If you skip the first meal of the day, your metabolism actually slows down to conserve energy. Studies show that those who eat breakfast regularly lose weight, keep it off, and are less likely to be overweight. Breakfast eaters also more likely to exercise regularly. So be sure you eat breakfast, and enjoy it within an hour after waking up.
  1. Protein reduces cravings for sweets: The high amount of protein in popular breakfast choices such as Greek yogurt, whole grains, and eggs will give you energy, so you'll be less likely to reach for sugary, high-calorie pick-me-ups like pastries and specialty coffee drinks.
  2. Fiber satiates hunger and flattens your belly: Cereal, made from whole grains, and fresh fruit are both great breakfast choices because they're high in fiber. Fiber not only keeps you feeling full longer so you're less apt to feel snacky between meals, it also reduces the bloating associated with constipation, which makes your tummy appear flatter.

Slow Down - You Have More Than Enough Time

"So much to do, so little time."

Whether we say it or not, that's how many of us live our lives. Always rushing, focusing on accomplishing an inhumane amount under an arbitrary time limit set by society or ourselves. We have to make this much money by this date, achieve internet stardom or professional renown by this date, be married by this date, change the world by this date, and then to top it all off, have baby numbers one and two by this date or else we will have failed.

Just writing it all is exhausting.

How crazy is it that we set so many of our goals around time, a thing that we can't control? Measuring ourselves by time benchmarks, even down to the days and hours, leaves us always feeling as if we are behind, especially when we compare ourselves to others.

Imagine what would happen if we all silenced the clock in our heads? Imagine how much more we would enjoy life if we focused on the journey and not on the estimated time of arrival to our destination?

Check out this video if you need a reminder that your value and your worth is not determined by how fast you achieve your goals. And see what changes in your your work, your relationships, and your efforts to transform the world when you stop treating your one wild and precious life like a sprint.

You won't regret it.

He said, "I was in the studio with Lenny Kravitz, and he was doing something with Jay Z. . . . It was 'Change Clothes.'" As Denzel imitated Jay Z's laugh, Queen Latifah cracked up, saying, "That's exactly how he is!" Watch the funny interaction above, and then check out Denzel's recent reunion with his childhood librarian for her 99th birthday.

All you have to do is bundle up in the most stylish accessories and cute, waterproof boots and you're good to go. The fashion is a bit more cozy and a lot more relaxed. An Astonishing List of Whole Foods' Bestselling Products in 2016

We asked Whole Foods to share its bestselling products from 2016, and the grocery store responded with this list. While none of my favorite Whole Foods products made cut, a few are certainly trendy (dill pickle chips and riced cauliflower). Some are a little obvious (avocados and boneless skinless chicken breasts). Then, there's a few that will send you running toward the prepared food section (mac and cheese and freshly baked cookies). Truth is, who doesn't go to Whole Foods to stock up on essentials and end up with half a cart full of chips, pasta, cheese, and pints of ice cream? Life is about balance, and this list proves it.

1. Hass Avocados

"Avocado toast, guacamole, the smoothest thing you can put in a smoothie. Avocados were everywhere this year, and they were a top seller at WFM."

2. Apples

"Specifically, Fuji and Honeycrisp."

3. 365 Everyday Value Dill Pickle Potato Chips

"Totally addictive limited-edition chips seasoned with flavors of salt, vinegar, and dill."

4. Whole Foods Market Potato & Pea Samosas

"Featur[es] a savory combination of potatoes and peas slow-roasted in herbs and spices. Lots of folks love these, because they're a little smaller than traditional samosas, so they're not as filling."

5. Whole Foods Market Lime Italian Sparkling Water

"It has been LaCroix's year, no doubt, but our lime Italian sparkling mineral water was still a bestseller nationwide. All our Italian sparkling waters have something of a following, but this one is particularly popular."

6. 365 Everyday Value Organic Riced Cauliflower (Frozen)

"We predicted this as a trend for 2017 partially because of its success in 2016. Everyone wants carb-less rice, and this is the answer. You can also use it for pizza crust."

7. 365 Everyday Value Coconut Water

"The coconut water trend continues, and we believe its strength will encourage folks to venture out into other coconut-based products in 2017."

8. Grass-Fed Ground Beef

"This is our bestseller and a customer favorite in the meat department. Ground fresh daily by our butchers and only comes from farms certified by the Global Animal Partnership's 5-Step Animal Welfare Rating System. Last year we predicted a surge in grass-fed products all over the store for 2016 and we continue to see growth in sales of grass-fed milk, cheese, and protein bars."

9. 365 Everyday Value Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast Fillets

"An oldie but goodie. Versatile and lean chicken breast fillets are a great value. Many customers stock up and store them in the freezer before using them in anything from chicken parm to Moroccan tagines to chicken soup."

10. Farmed Salmon

"Whole Foods Market's Responsibly Farmed salmon is our number one seller in the entire seafood department. Our fishmongers report that sometimes customers are reluctant to try farmed salmon, but when they learn how we raise it and then give it a try, they're hooked. Our aquaculture standards include: No use of antibiotics, added growth hormones, and poultry and mammalian products in feed; minimizing the impacts of fish farming on the environment; no added preservatives such as sodium bisulfite, sodium tri-polyphosphate (STP), and sodium metabisulfite; farmers do not treat nets with toxic chemicals to get rid of algae and no pesticides are used; traceability from farm to store; and third-party audits."

11. Parmigiano Reggiano

"Among our customers' favorite cheeses is Parmigiano Reggiano. Each year our cheese team visits the Emilia Romagna region of Italy and selects wheels from just five producers, ensuring the authenticity of this very special cheese. Each wheel of Parmigiano Reggiano carries proof of its authenticity with an impressed rind and brand. Only cheese made in area specific area in Northern Italy - Reggio Emilia, Parma, Modena, and portions of Bologna and Mantua - can bear the Parmigiano Reggiano name. Check out the wheels getting their impressions in this IACP Award-winning video."

12. Macaroni and Cheese (Off the Hot Bar)

"Actually, hot- and salad-bar takeaway, overall, is among the top sellers across all stores, because the food is delicious, made in house, and adheres to our quality standards including no artificial preservatives, sweeteners, colors, or hydrogenated fats. The most popular dishes in Bay Area stores are macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, roasted chicken, and steamed or roasted vegetables."

13. Cookies (From the Cookie Bar)

"Whole Foods Market started selling small individual cookies a couple years ago, and the program has taken off. Selection varies depending on where you live, but cookie stands invite customers to choose from everything from chocolate chip to alfajores, crispy rice bars, and macaroons."
