The Most Important Details Surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's Divorce

In late May, news broke that Amber Heard had filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, whom she married in a lavish island ceremony in February 2015. Although the couple had seemed happy and the news came out of left field, Amber, 30, also filed a restraining order against the 53-year-old Alice Through the Looking Glass actor, which included allegations of domestic abuse. After much back-and-forth, the former couple confirmed on Aug. 16 that they had settled their divorce, but it looks like they're still trying to figure things out. Keep reading to see the most important information about their relationship and the events leading up to their settlement.

This post has been updated with new information.

  1. Amber files for divorce from Johnny. Three days after Johnny's mother passed away, Amber filed for divorce on May 25 and cited irreconcilable differences in her petition. The couple has been married for 15 months and has no prenuptial agreement.
  2. Johnny speaks out about the ordeal. A short statement given through his representative to Us Weekly on May 26 that said: "Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly."
  3. Amber is granted a restraining order from Johnny. The Magic Mike XXL actress filed a domestic violence restraining order accompanied by graphic photos of her bruised face on the morning of May 27. A source told People that the bruises aren't a rare occurrence, saying, "This was not an isolated event" and that "this was only the latest incident." Later that day, Amber was photographed coming out of court after a judge granted her request for temporary order.
  4. Johnny was photographed fitting an elderly woman with a hearing aid on the afternoon of May 27, during a visit to Lisbon, Portugal, with his band, The Hollywood Vampires. Later that evening, Johnny performed at the Rock in Rio festival and was pictured with his bandmates ahead of the show. While he has yet to release a statement about Amber's claims or the restraining order against him, a judge denied Amber's request for sole possession of their dog, Pistol, stating that there was "insufficient showing of need to protect pet dog."

  5. Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Depp come to Johnny's defense. Upon hearing about Amber's domestic violence allegations against Johnny, both the actor's ex-partner and daughter penned notes in his support. On May 27, Vanessa wrote, "I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous," claiming, "In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years." Likewise, Lily took to Instagram and shared a childhood photo of her and her dad, along with a note that read, "My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know, he's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same."
  6. Comedian Doug Stanhope claims Amber is blackmailing Johnny. In a guest column for The Wrap, Doug - who has been friends with Johnny for years - wrote at length about how he believes Amber isn't as innocent as she seems. "Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn't agree to her terms," he said. "Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified."
  7. Amber's lawyer slams blackmail accusations. Attorney Peter Sample was quick to shut down Doug's article about Amber with a follow-up statement to The Wrap that reads: "[The] allegations against Ms. Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false," adding that the claim she's blackmailing Johnny "has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit."
  8. The legal team for Amber speaks out against Johnny. Lead attorney Samantha F. Spector and cocounsel Joseph P. Koenig provided an in-depth statement to Just Jared on May 31 defending the Magic Mike XXL actress. "As the result of Amber's decision to decline giving an initial statement to the LAPD, her silence has been used against her by Johnny's team. Amber did not provide a statement to the LAPD in an attempt to protect her privacy and Johnny's career," they began, before ending the lengthy statement with, "We took the high road. Unfortunately, Johnny's team immediately went to the press and began viciously attacking Amber's character. Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money. Amber is a brave and financially independent woman who is showing the courage of her convictions by doing the right thing against Johnny's relentless army of lawyers and surrogates. The Family Law Court is not going to be influenced by misinformation placed in the social media based on anonymous sources. Amber is the victim. Amber is a hero."
  9. People reveals new photos of a battered Amber. A photo of a bruised Amber appeared on the cover of People's June 13 issue (which was released on June 1). In its exclusive photos, she has both a bruised eye and a cut lip. In its cover story, People also revealed details from the court papers, in which Amber alleges that Johnny showed up at her birthday party "inebriated and high" and "violently shoved me to the floor." She also states that Depp hit her with a cell phone.
  10. Police are called to Amber and Johnny's home. According to reports, Amber's attorney called law enforcement on June 13, when Johnny's representative showed up to their home to retrieve his belongings. Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly that the move wasn't in violation of Amber's restraining order as neither one of the parties were home at the time. The officers simply stood by to "ensure that only the items listed in the court order were being removed."
  11. Amber retracts her petition for spousal support. The actress's attorney filed a declaration to withdraw her request for spousal support from Johnny, saying the only reason she requested it was because she thought it was standard procedure in a divorce case. Amber, who wanted $50,000 per month from the actor, says the request is being "used against me to distract and divert the public away from the very serious real issue of domestic violence."
  12. Amber plans to testify in court. "As of now, the plan is for Amber to testify on Friday," a source told Us Weekly on June 15. According to court documents, Amber stated she "could and would competently testify" if called as a witness. However, Johnny's attorney, Laura Wasser, also filed documents requesting that the court deny Heard's testimony if she failed to "appear for deposition" or did not "produce the requested documents at her deposition." There is no word yet on whether Johnny will attend the hearing.
  13. Johnny files to keep divorce details private. On July 20, the actor's legal team asked a judge to order that his financial records be kept private throughout the rest of divorce proceedings. His attorney, Laura Wasser, argued that although Amber has the right to see his finances, the media does not. "Johnny is merely trying to protect the documents and information Amber seeks from unwarranted disclosure to the media and other individuals not involved in the case," she said in the official documents.
  14. Amber accuses her ex of stalling their divorce. In documents obtained by Us Weekly on July 26, it was revealed that Amber has accused Johnny of stonewalling their split. "[Depp] and his counsel's demand for the execution of these two non-disclosure agreements which impose undue financial hardships and burdens on [Heard] are nothing but blatant threats by [Depp] and are illustrative of his continued attempts to thwart real progress in this case," they read.
  15. The domestic violence hearing gets pushed back. A status hearing was held on Aug. 9, which resulted in Depp and Heard's domestic violence hearing being delayed. The reason for the delay seems to be that neither Depp nor Heard has completed their depositions. Depp's lawyer is requesting that Heard do hers first, and that there be time between hers and his. The hearing is now scheduled to take place on Aug. 17.
  16. A disturbing video allegedly showing Johnny arguing with Amber leaks. A day before the actress was set to be deposed, a clip surfaced of Johnny throwing a fit over an unknown incident. In the footage, Johnny is seen slamming kitchen cabinets, breaking objects, and yelling at Amber as she appears to record everything on her phone. While many speculated that Amber leaked the footage, she denied those reports on Saturday.
  17. Johnny and Amber settle their divorce. "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love," the two said in a joint statement to TMZ on Aug. 16. "Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm." According to TMZ, the actress also withdrew her request for a domestic violence restraining order with prejudice, meaning she cannot refile the case.
  18. Amber's lawyer retracts her statement. After resolving the divorce on Aug. 16, Amber Heard's attorney, Samantha F. Spector, took back her client's previous statement about the settlement. "The statement is untrue and we retract it, without qualification," she told ABC News. "My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologize to Johnny Depp."
  19. Amber donates her $7 million divorce settlement to charity. In a statement to People on Aug. 18, the actress revealed that the money would be divided amongst charities with "a particular focus to stop violence against women," including the ACLU and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where she has volunteered for over a decade.
  20. Johnny refuses to finalize the divorce and donate the settlement. Their divorce hit another snag on Dec. 14 when it was revealed that Johnny still hasn't donated all of the money he owes Amber. In legal documents obtained by E! News, it appears the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is not only pushing back against finalizing the agreement, but has violated a court-allotted timeline of requirements that includes "the division of personal property, shipping [Amber's] belongings from his private island in the Bahamas, transferring a Range Rover into [Amber's] name and Johnny's outstanding debts incurred from cars, Neil Lane jewelry, and stylist fees." So far all he's done is pay the initial $200,000 donation, so Amber and her legal team are fighting back.
  21. Johnny wants Amber to pay legal fees toward his attorneys' fees and costs. In new court documents filed by Johnny's divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, on Tuesday, the actor is asking that the court order Amber to pay $100,000 toward his attorneys' fees and costs. He also wants that amount deducted from his next divorce settlement payment if Amber fails to pay within 10 days of the court's order.
  22. Amber's attorney hits back with a spirited reply. In response to Laura Wasser's filing, Amber's attorney Pierce O'Donnell gave a statement to Us Weekly about how they intend to proceed. "After his string of recent setbacks at the box office, I'm glad that Johnny Depp seems to have rediscovered his comic touch with this laughable motion," he said. "It is just another lame attempt by Mr. Depp and his team to not pay my client the money she is owed. We look forward to prevailing in court - and to getting sick children and women in need the money that Mr. Depp is denying them."
  23. Johnny's team claims Amber just wants her 15 minutes of fame. In new documents obtained by E! News in December 2016, Johnny's team states that Amber is using their divorce to seek more fame. "Her request is entirely unnecessary under the law and suggests a last-ditch effort to garner media attention and somehow further her public persona by virtue of proximity to Johnny Depp. From the inception of this dissolution Amber has sought to build a case in the court of public opinion," the documents state. "Amber is now courting renewed media attention with this unnecessary Request for Order. Her application is not only a blatant attempt to extend her fifteen minutes of fame but also a waste of the Court's limited time and resources and an embarrassing grab for addition and unwarranted attorney's fees."

This Is How All Your Favorite Food Network Stars Make Chicken Noodle Soup

It's hard to screw up classic chicken noodle soup. But whether you're making it for the first time ever or are a seasoned pro looking to switch it up a bit, look no further than these popular recipes from some of our favorite Food Network hosts. Paula Deen adds a creamy touch, Tyler Florence goes the extra mile with homemade stock, and - naturally - Giada puts an Italian spin on the traditional soup. Keep the chill away and cozy up to a steaming bowl of comfort food, courtesy of the following pros.

Tyler Florence: Make Your Own Stock

Tyler Florence doesn't cut any corners, and especially not when it comes to chicken noodle soup. The homemade stock in Tyler Florence's chicken noodle soup is what sets this soup way, way above a canned version. Don't be intimidated - all you need is a whole chicken, a few fresh vegetables, and herbs, and you've got homemade stock for a batch of this soup and beyond.

Paula Deen: Don't Skimp on the Cream

There's no shame in adding a little fat to chicken noodle soup, making it creamier and even more comforting. Paula Deen's chicken noodle soup calls for heavy cream, parmesan, sherry, and mushrooms, so it's a bit more bulked up than the traditional brothy soup you're probably used to. Served with crusty French bread for dipping, it's the ultimate wintertime comfort food.

Giada De Laurentiis: Swap Spaghetti

You know Giada is going to put an Italian spin on just about anything, especially anything with the word "noodle" in it. Instead of egg noodles or small pasta, Giada's chicken noodle soup calls for spaghetti broken up into two-inch pieces. Giada also recommends adding a parmesan rind (the rind adds tons of flavor), lemon juice, and grated Romano cheese.

Alton Brown: Add an Aromatic Herb

Sure, you're used to thyme and parsley in chicken noodle soup, but try Alton Brown's chicken noodle soup with finely chopped tarragon. The aramotic, anise-like herb adds an incredible depth of flavor that will leave you slurping up spoonful after spoonful.

Rachael Ray: Chop Parsnips

Along with the classic mirepoix of onions, carrots, and celery, Rachael Ray's quick chicken noodle soup calls for an unexpected vegetable: parsnips. The root vegetable adds substance and subtle flavor and pairs perfectly with the rest of the diced veggies.

Anne Burrell: Sprinkle Cinnamon and Nutmeg

When you're feeling really creative and need something out of the box, try Anne Burrell's chicken noodle soup. With ingredients you'd never expect - cinnamon, nutmeg, chickpeas, and cilantro - this isn't your average chicken noodle soup, but in a good way. The recipe has a five-star rating for a reason, and people can't get enough of the spiced, soul-warming soup.

We're Finally Getting One Taco Bell Dish Other Countries Have Had For Ages

Taco Bell devotees, this is not a drill: we're probably getting a hybrid between nachos and fries sometime soon. Yes, it's true! A Taco Bell location in Irvine, CA, is reportedly testing two intriguing new dishes: Crispy Chicken Chips (a type of thin chicken nugget shaped like a tortilla chip) and Loaded Seasoned Fries (the aforementioned heavenly hybrid).

This news will come as a welcome surprise from people who have enjoyed Taco Bell internationally. Locations in Canada, Latin America, and Japan have offered a similar dish, Fries Supreme, for ages now - and it's about time that the US got a taste of the good stuff, wouldn't you say?

Taco Bell describes the Canadian version of this dish as follows:

"These freshly prepared fries topped with seasoned ground beef, warm zesty nacho cheese sauce, diced ripe tomatoes, chives and reduced-fat sour cream are a Canadian legend!"

Meanwhile, Foodbeast's description of the California test dish is strikingly similar, with one major difference: seasoned french fries. We'll consider that an added bonus to the US version of the cheesy, nacho-y treat!

Check out pictures of the possible new addition to Taco Bell's menu, then peep some photos of the international options of loaded fries. Warning: you might need a napkin, because you'll be drooling by the end.

Ryan Reynolds Addresses Deadpool's Pansexuality and Teases Many More Films

In 2015, Marvel's R-rated Deadpool became a surprise box office juggernaut, meaning more adult-oriented superhero movies could, in fact, succeed. Between the killer soundtrack, tons of naked Ryan Reynolds, and a hint about the inclusion of Cable, it has become quite clear that the sequel will have a lot to live up to. Of course, we've gotten plenty of details about Deadpool 2, but one question hasn't quite been answered: will the hero's pansexuality become more explicit with the second go-round? We may have gotten an answer, thanks to a new Variety interview with Reynolds. Oh, and there's even a hint of many more movies to come.

  • Ryan Reynolds, on Deadpool's pansexuality: "What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else. I think that could be played up more. He's an outsider in every way, shape, and form."
  • On reprising his role in the years to come: "I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool. We have outlines and stories for a number of different films."
  • On perfecting the script: "I'd write 10 more jokes. I never, ever slept. Or I was sleeping at a perfect right angle - just sitting straight, constantly working at the same time."

Adele and Simon Konecki Step Out Wearing Matching Gold Bands - Did They Get Married?

Adele may officially be off the market. The "Hello" singer and her longtime partner Simon Konecki sparked marriage rumors after they both stepped out wearing matching gold bands on their ring fingers in LA last week. Adele sported the bauble while doing some grocery shopping around town on Dec. 27, and four days later, Simon donned a similar ring while shopping with their 4-year-old son, Angelo.

Adele and Simon met through pal Ed Sheeran and have been together for five years now. While neither Adele nor Simon have addressed the wedding rumors, the singer could not help but gush over Simon during an interview with Australia's 60 Minutes back in November 2015, saying, "Being in such an amazing relationship with someone that's so there for me and so loyal and is really part of my core now, that's what made me write about everything I've ever done, because I've got his love. I know that sounds a bit like I'm trying to write a Hollywood movie, but it's only because of him and because of our kid and stuff that I'm all right." Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

8 Totally Underrated Netflix Original Movies

In just a few short years, Netflix has created a strong foundation of original programming. The site produces comedy specials, animated series, documentaries, and more. While the television shows are definitely the more popular content, the original movies shouldn't be overlooked. Spanning multiple genres and featuring star-studded casts, there's a film for everyone. Take a look ahead and check out some of our favorite underrated Netflix original movies!

A Series of Unfortunate Events: Is Season 2 on the Way?

With just a handful of days until another unfortunate Friday the 13th, at least there's something to look forward to: Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Despite the grave insinuations behind the tragic tale, the new series has become one of the most anticipated Netflix originals of 2017. But with the way the original film adaptation flopped so spectacularly in 2003, it's hard not to worry a bit about the future of the series. Will we get our hearts broken once again, never to see the trials of the Baudelaire orphans play out in live action?

Luckily for avid fans, we have some good news: there's a very, very high probability that the show will get a second season. One thing to consider is that almost every Netflix show has been given a second season, regardless of critical reception or viewership. Furthermore, Patrick Warburton all but confirmed another installment during a recent interview with POPSUGAR, saying, "I know that there's talks and preproduction going on right now."

With season one covering the first four books, it looks like we're poised to extend far beyond the original film adaptation of the beloved books. Of course, Netflix has yet to confirm any renewal news, but hopefully you'll sleep a little better at night knowing a second season is basically a go.

Meryl Streep's Road to Making Golden Globes History, in Pictures

Meryl Streep is set to be honored with the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at the Golden Globes on Sunday. While that's a huge feat in itself, the eight-time Golden Globe Award winner also holds a total of 30 nominations, making her the most nominated star in the show's history. Talk about impressive! In honor of her upcoming big night, we're looking back at Meryl's Golden Globes appearances throughout the years.

Serious Question: Should You Wear Socks in Bed?

I have the faintest memories of wearing socks to bed whenever I came down with a fever or got the chills at night when I was younger. My mother had the habit of turning down the heat when we slept and, as someone who gets cold easily, socks were the quickest solution to warming me up. This all ended abruptly one night when my mom caught me wearing a pair to bed. She claimed it was bad for my health (she had read about it in a book) and demanded I take them off before sleeping. My parents are very health conscious and being a kid and all, I obliged and didn't question her reasoning. After that, I hardly ever wore socks to bed and forgot about the incident altogether, until a few days ago. I had read someone else's conundrum surrounding this very same topic and my childhood memories came flooding back to me.

Is the simple act of wearing socks to bed such a big deal?

I had to find a logical, scientific explanation to this. No fashion question is ever too dumb or unimportant to ask - at least, that's what I was telling myself as I searched - and I felt validated when numerous posts popped up with other people wondering the same thing. I wasn't alone. The short answer to the question is: yes, wearing socks to bed is completely fine. In fact (for the insomniacs out there), it might even help you fall asleep faster. Heating up cold feet causes your blood vessels to dilate, which can signal the brain that it's time for bed. In other words, your feet regulate external temperature, so if you're feeling cold, slip on a pair of socks. If you're feeling hot, simply take them off for a better night's rest. It's all about listening to what your body needs.

Although you should always wear clean socks to bed to prevent bacteria from collecting, there is nothing unhealthy about wearing your favorite fuzzy pair to sleep. I'm not only presenting these findings to my mom ASAP tonight, but I'm also buying new socks that I'll happily wear to sleep whenever I want.

Not Enough Free Space? What to Delete on Your iPhone

Our smartphones are the center of our digital universe, and they hold lots of data: text messages, photos, browsing history, etc. If your iPhone's storage is at capacity, then follow these simple steps to make room for more data.

Identify What's Taking Up the Most Space

Find out what your problem areas are before deciding what to delete.

  • On the iPhone, head to Settings General Usage to view how many gigabytes you have available. Apps will be listed by how much storage they occupy - Photos & Camera is likely to be at the top of this list.
  • On a Mac or PC, plug the iPhone into a computer and open iTunes to click on the phone icon and view storage broken down by Apps,TV Show, Music, Movies, Photos, and Other. Hover over one of these categories with your mouse to view details. "Other" represents settings, calendar events, notes, browser cache, email, email attachments, and more nonmedia data.
  • If Other makes up an overwhelming amount of iPhone storage, then there may be an issue with corrupted data. If you've tried deleting all of our suggestions and there is still lots of Other storage, then consider restoring your iPhone.
  • Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes, have backed up the device, and have synced content with your computer. Connect the iPhone to your computer, and in the Summary section under the phone icon, click on Restore iPhone. This returns the iPhone back to factory settings.

Delete Unnecessary Data

While this seems like a no-brainer, there may be some unlikely suspects on this list:

  • Delete photos
  • On the iPhone, do this in your camera roll. On the Mac, connect your iPhone and open Image Capture (default on all Apple computers). Select photos to delete, and select multiple images by holding down the command key while you click on the photos.
  • Text messages
  • Call history
  • Voicemail
  • Safari browser cache (General > Safari > Clear cookies and data)
  • Safari browsing history (General > Safari > Clear history)
  • Unused/outdated/redundant contacts
  • Turn off app notifications
  • Delete and reinstall email account to get rid of attachments cache
  • Unused apps (long press any app icon on the homescreen and tap the "x" button on the top left of the icon)
  • Completed reminders
  • Books
  • Movies
  • Video
  • Reduce locally stored music for "offline" listening in music streaming apps

Possible Preventative Solutions

Nip the full-memory problem in the bud next time around. Since photos are typically the biggest problem, download the Google Photos app, which compresses, backs up, and stores unlimited high-quality photos and videos for free, meaning you can delete them from your Camera Roll.

Reduce what is synced to your phone. Consider syncing selected playlists or genres rather than the entire music library, and deleting podcasts, movies, and TV shows after you've finished watching them.

Loudly snoring dogs can drive any pet owner crazy, but one comedian just figured out the ultimate way to stop his dog from snoring, and it's pretty hilarious. He can't believe the sound of his own snores. Watch the video above, and then see if this tactic works on your own snoring pups!

7 Ways Latinas Can Make Their Voices Heard in 2017

The unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election may have felt discouraging for many voters, including Latinas who rallied together against Donald Trump's many shocking comments about immigration and women. If you felt a wave of apathy in the aftermath of the election, you are not alone. Now that the proverbial dust has settled, however, it's especially important to stay engaged and involved. Ahead, we've listed seven ways to do that.

1. Participate in your local Latinas Represent chapter.

Latinas Represent is the byproduct of the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, Hispanas Organized for Political Equality, and Latino Community Foundation of Colorado. The coalition works toward increasing Latinx representation in American politics. While Latinas Represent does give female leaders the tools they need to run for office or influence public policy, it also offers regular civilians a place to share the issues that affect them. To engage with other Latinas in your area, check out Latinas Represent's many chapters. If you're not represented on the map, then consider starting your own!

2. Contact your elected officials.

In November of 2016, a former congressional staff member went viral with her helpful guide to contacting representatives and actually making them listen to you. All of her advice is definitely worth a read on Twitter - however, she ultimately said the most effective method is to actually just make the calls. For more information on how to contact them, click here.

3. Share your story with COLOR.

The Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR) is a pro-choice, sex-positive movement that fights for reproductive rights and the overall physical and mental well-being of Latinas. If you're willing, you can share your own so-called "reproductive justice" story with COLOR. The organization will only use your first name.

4. Mark your calendar for Nov. 6, 2018.

Despite the unexpected outcome of the 2016 presidential election, Latinx voters still had a strong influence on many local and state-level races. For example, Mexican-American Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto won the Senate race in Nevada. While these victories from the 2016 election are great, the midterm elections on Nov. 6, 2018, will provide Latinx voters with another opportunity to make their voices heard.

5. Become a sponsor for ELLAS.

Embracing Latina Leadership Alliances, or ELLAS, is a program that helps low-income high school students excel both in and outside of the classroom. For $950, you can sponsor a student and help them attend workshops relevant to their interests and pursuit of higher education. You can also get involved by becoming a volunteer or speaking at a workshop. While ELLAS is not an explicitly political organization, investing in the next generation is certainly a way to influence politics in the years to come. They are the future, after all.

6. Attend a local town hall meeting.

Town hall meetings serve as effective (yet slightly less formal) spaces for residents in the area to air their grievances and propose solutions. While these types of meetings don't have a direct effect on the nation at large, they are still important and can improve your day-to-day life. To attend a meeting, find out who your senators and representatives are and monitor their websites or Twitter accounts for any announcements on upcoming meetings.

7. Run for political office.

If you've ever considered a career in politics, check out She Should Run. Following the presidential election, the organization launched an incubator program that has since encouraged over 4,000 women to run for elected office. She Should Run helps women define their brands, stand up to sexism, and connect with other women in the program so that they can grow their respective networks.

10 Movies to Watch If You're Obsessed With La La Land

One of the biggest breakout hits of the year, La La Land has received critical acclaim and been nominated for over 100 awards from different organizations, including two SAG award nominations and a whopping seven Golden Globe noms, including best actor, best actress, best screenplay, and best director. At this rate, it will undoubtedly dominate the Oscars as well.

In their third feature as costars, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star in the romantic musical as Mia Dolan and Sebastian Wilder, two ambitious Los Angelenos whose lives intertwine as they each work to follow their dreams. Mia is an aspiring actress who rushes to audition after audition, only to be brushed off by executives. Sebastian is a talented pianist who struggles to keep the Jazz Age alive. Together, their love inspires them to not give up and to do whatever it takes to make it in the City of Dreams. Not that you can ever have too much Ryan Gosling (or Emma Stone, for that matter), but when you're ready to watch something new, check out some of the following films to get your fill of love, Los Angeles, and superb song and dance numbers!

4 Major Things to Know About Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher's HBO Documentary

Bright Lights, the HBO documentary focused on the complex relationship between Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, could not have come at a more striking moment. In the final week of 2016, Fisher died due to complications from a heart attack just one day before Reynolds herself passed away from a stroke. Following the heartbreaking news, the world at large began to mourn the mother-daughter duo in tandem; brother and son Todd Fisher even shared a sweet drawing depicting both women in their most iconic roles. Now, it seems like Bright Lights will forever capture the loving bond between the two. Here's everything we've uncovered about the project.

1. The Content

According to an early review from the Los Angeles Times, the film was mostly shot in 2014 and 2015. It chronicles the months leading up to Reynolds's honor at the 2015 SAG Awards: a lifetime achievement award. Fisher, on the other hand, was preparing to reprise her iconic role as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens. The primary goal of the filmmakers, it seems, was to capture the intoxicating, unmistakable bond between the mother-daughter duo.

HBO said the documentary "is an intimate portrait of Hollywood royalty in all its eccentricity. Carrie Fisher and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, live in the same Beverly Hills compound. The 83-year-old grand dame still has a Las Vegas act, but performing is taking its toll. Carrie's response is both hilarious and heart-rending."

2. Quotes From the Filmmakers

  • Alexis Bloom, on the pair's bond: "I mean, the first time we filmed Carrie and Debbie together, that was the storyline, really. Sort of the ties that bind us. We didn't know when we would stop or how far back we would archive, but the axis on which the film turned was their relationship and their love."
  • Bloom, on Fisher's gravitas: "I feel incredibly tender toward Carrie when she's home getting her manicure because she's incredibly manic. You can see she's in pain and you can see what a survivor she is. She is incredibly honest and kind of vulnerable at the same time, and I love that scene when she plays with the ladies who are doing her nails with glitter. That is Carrie. She's covered in glitter, and she has that fairy dust about her."
  • Fisher Stevens, on the best moment: "The scene that encapsulates the film best for me was when we interview Debbie, and Carrie sets off the burglar alarm. I had actually set it by mistake. Debbie started to feel worse and worse during the interview, anyway, so we weren't getting much, but after the alarm she woke up and gave us great stuff. She truly is unsinkable."

3. A Bit of Preliminary Footage

This clip was released back in May 2016 and shows Fisher preparing for a trek to her mother's house (which is next door). Even in just one minute, we get a glimpse at the funny relationship, especially when Fisher tells Reynolds she can't keep her retro flip phone because it's "ridiculous."

4. The Premiere Date

The documentary was initially slated for a March release, but in the wake of the stars' deaths, the new premiere date is Jan. 7 at 8 p.m.

This Is How Oprah Transforms Scrambled Eggs Into a "Sexy Breakfast"

Oprah Winfrey stopped by The Dr. Oz Show to share recipes from her new cookbook Food, Health, and Happiness, including what she calls her "sexy breakfast." "I don't even know if you want to call this a recipe," Oprah said of the breakfast, which is scrambled eggs with salsa. But the real secret is in the heat of the homemade salsa - "lots of jalapeños in there," Oprah said, explaining that the recipe comes from Eduardo, "one of the guys that helps me at my house." The other key to perfect scrambled eggs, according to Oprah? Temperature - always serve them hot. "The thing about anyone who is a real cook . . . don't you want people to come to the table when the food is hot?" she asked Dr. Oz.

In addition to her cookbook, published on Jan. 3, Oprah is celebrating her 42-pound weight loss since joining Weight Watchers in the Summer of 2015. Get a sneak peek of Oprah's appearance on The Dr. Oz Show, and allow her breakfast to inspire your next scrambled eggs recipe.

Chris Pratt Gets Real About Love Scenes (With His Wife!) and Being "Too Fat" For a Role

Chris Pratt has been on quite the hot streak since he left the world of TV - we'll always love you, Andy Dwyer - for the big screen. His recent blockbusters, like Zero Dark Thirty, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World, and Passengers, have made him a household name, but that doesn't mean he's afraid to speak candidly about his past career flops and failures. Chris is the star of Vanity Fair's February issue, and in addition to letting his eyes pierce your soul from the cover, he also talks about being called "too fat" for a role and what it's been like to reunite with wife Anna Faris on set, specifically about how much fun the couple, who met on the set of the '80s comedy Take Me Home Tonight, had while filming love scenes during his cameo on Anna's CBS show Mom. Read his quotes below.

  • On what motivated him to lose weight: "[After auditioning to play Oakland A's first baseman and catcher Scott Hatteberg in 2011's Moneyball] That was the first time I heard someone say, 'We're not gonna cast you - you're too fat.' So I decided to drop the weight, like in wrestling. I couldn't afford a trainer, so it was all running and crash-dieting and cutting alcohol."
  • On Zero Dark Thirty convincing him he could be an action hero: "That's the first time I bulked up, got into great shape because I was playing a navy SEAL. [After watching the movie] I was like, My God, I buy that guy. I'm SEAL Team Six in that movie, and I felt like it was real. I can do this. I can play those roles."
  • On President-elect Donald Trump's controversial Access Hollywood comments: "'When you're a star, you could do anything' - the offensive thing to me about that was Trump calling himself a star. It's like 'Come on, dude.' It's not because I consider myself a star, but if I ever heard someone say that, one of my peers, I'd instantly lose respect for them."
  • On what he looked like when he first came to Hollywood: "I looked exactly like Heath Ledger. I had long blond hair, still bleached out, Hawaiian . . . That's what people were always saying: 'Man, you look just like Heath Ledger.' Then I saw Heath Ledger on the cover of Vanity Fair and I thought, 'Hey, I do look just like that guy.'"
  • On playing wife Anna Faris's love interest on Mom: "Normally, when you do a kissing scene, it's awkward, and when it's done you say, 'Are you OK?' But this was different. After they yelled 'Cut,' we laughed and just kept on kissing."

The One Day at a Time Reboot Has 2 Secret Weapons: Justina Machado and Gloria Calderon Kellett

Netflix has had a number of reboots come down the pipeline recently, and although not everyone is on board with the choice to revive once-beloved shows, the streaming giant's latest reach into the past is a total charmer. Executive producer Gloria Calderon Kellett has given Norman Lear's One Day at a Time a modern facelift, dusting off the '70s family sitcom and reimagining it with a Cuban-American family. Not only does the show have heartwarming, nostalgic nods to the original, but it also provides a much-needed TV platform for celebrating the everyday lives of Latino families. With the show set to premiere on Jan. 6, POPSUGAR sat down with Kellett and the comedy's leading lady, Justina Machado, for a chat about single motherhood, telling meaningful stories for Cuban-Americans, and why they aren't afraid to tackle difficult conversations.

POPSUGAR: I imagine it must have been a challenge for you guys to pay homage to the original show, which had such a huge presence in the late '70s and early '80s, but also make it your own, and make it relevant today.

Gloria Calderon Kellett: It was something we took very seriously. I wouldn't say it was a challenge as much as . . . look, Norman [Lear] allowed us to be really authentic. He was unbelievably supportive and he was willing to fight Netflix and Sony, should we need to in allowing me to represent my family. Because I had that support, the homage was easier. We did homages in small ways. The set is very similar to the original set, and the number on the door is the same as the original. She's a single mom, and there's a character named Snyder. Other than that, everything else is more unique to my experience as a first generation Cuban in America. It's a lot about my relationship with my mother, and obviously that translated through the filter of Justina and Rita [Moreno], who make it their own. It's been so joyful. It means a lot to us. For all of us being Latinos doing this show, it's not just a show for us. It's an opportunity to let America and the world know what its like in a Latino house. I don't know if there's been a lot of representation of that. I know there's been some, but to be able to add our contribution to what's normal for us and say, "Look how similar and different we are." It's about sharing stories and the experience.

PS: Do you think it's more difficult to portray a single mom now, in 2016, versus in 1975?

Justina Machado: Obviously that was a big deal back then, in 1975, wasn't it? That she was a single mom? But we also deal with other issues. Veteran issues. We deal with the modern-day thing of raising two children with all of this technology and all of this information. It's a little bit more difficult nowadays, I think. So we deal with all of that, and also have three generations of strong women. We bring in Rita to play the mom. She lives with my character, and she's helping me take care of and raise these kids. We see the different ways these three different women in three different generations deal with things.

GCK: We tried to do it in a very organic way. Naturally, my mother is a lot more traditional than me because she's first generation and grew up in the '50s. She's a much more traditional woman. Then I'm somewhere in the middle, where I'm a little bit traditional, but liberal as well. Then we touch on my daughter, [executive producer] Mike Royce's daughter, and Norman's daughter as well, who is very feminist. Naturally, we have very different points of view of what it means to be a strong woman. All of them are right, and all of them are wrong. To be able to talk about that in a real and grounded way is pretty special.

PS: Going off of tradition, is there anything in particular from Cuban culture that you're excited for people to see in One Day at a Time?

GCK: So much. I think more than anything, is my experience having my parents come to the United States during Operation Pedro Pan in the '60s. They came in 1962. A lot of people just don't know about it. They just don't know about how people come to this country. Everyone has a coming to America story. Mine was my parents thought they were going to be here for six months while Kennedy was getting Castro out of Cuba. That turned into 40 years.

JM: That gives me goosebumps, it really does.

GCK: Now I get to honor their American story, which is coming here without their parents, being put on a plane, and then never getting to go back home.

JM: I don't think people see that kind of story from Cuban-Americans. We saw Scarface, and believe me, I love Scarface. [laughs] It's because the Cuban people, in my opinion, are so resourceful and successful, we forget their story. That they had to leave everything, that they had to come to this country not knowing the language, not having any money, not knowing what they were gonna do. It's not a story that has been told.

GCK: And it's not unique to Cubans. There are so many people who come here! Look at Aziz Ansari when he did his episode about his parents coming to America. I related to that episode more than I've related to anything in a really long time, and he's talking about an Indian experience. It's great that this Asian experience that he's had and the experience that I had are so similar. So to get to tell my specific story, within the context of the show, is incredible.

PS: Netflix, especially with programming like Orange Is the New Black and Jessica Jones, is really lifting women up with their strong female characters. One Day at a Time is no different, and such a female-centric show. Justina, what has been your favorite thing about playing Penelope?

JM: The amazing writing! The layered woman that she is. A real person, you know? They didn't have me coming out with a piñata, or dancing to some salsa. [laughs] Not that I mind, I love it all. But it's a real person who is layered, and flawed, and she's lovely, and she's just a woman that I am so proud to portray. As I read the script I was like, "This is good, this is real good."

PS: Was there any scene throughout the season that was a favorite for you guys?

JM: The last episode was really special. The last scene of the last episode is really, really beautiful to me.

GCK: Oh for sure. That was a really beautiful scene.

JM: And in episode three there's a lot of fun stuff that I could really relate to. We talk about religion, so that was a good one. Growing up, my parents raised me Catholic. I'm not someone who really goes to church anymore, but that was the way I was raised and it was really important. In the episode, it's kind of a thing with my mom and I. We have pictures of the Pope everywhere, and stuff like that. That's the way I grew up, except for the pictures of the Pope. We didn't have that. My cousins had that. I was like what the hell is this? [laughs]

GCK: My brother is literally named John Paul after the Pope.

JM: You see? There you go! It was great the way we deal with church in the episode. That was something that I completely relate to.

GCK: We get to have a grounded conversation about religion.

PS: That's great not many shows get the chance to.

GCK: That's right. People are afraid to talk about that stuff, and everyone has an opinion! It's organic.
