Meet Your Go-To Salad Dressing

When It Comes to Dressing Melania Trump, the Fashion World Is Divided

Michelle Obama paid close attention to fashion throughout her time in the White House, and that was something we didn't ignore. In 2016, we spent plenty of time writing about and analyzing her outfits, applauding her support for new designers and her ability to stay true to her signature style. This past year, fashion and politics collided a number of times, and not only when Michelle was in the room.

Melania Trump, who will take the reins as FLOTUS this month, has already sparked controversy and made statements through her clothing on the campaign trail. And now labels are taking a firm stance against dressing her, or controversially, applauding her for choosing their clothing, as did Stefano Gabbana after Melania wore a Dolce & Gabbana LBD on New Year's Eve.

Before the election, celebrities endorsed presidential candidates with small accessories or tees, but they announced their pride in a big way on Instagram. You can bet the internet had a response. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May was criticized for her looks, and designers at Fashion Week tapped into politics, too. Read up on the 13 most important moments that happened around the world.

We're Pretty Sure Crop Tops Were Invented Just So Demi Lovato Could Show Off Her Strong Abs

If you follow Demi Lovato on Instagram and Snapchat, you know she's a total beast at the gym. Since Demi's commitment to getting stronger and healthier (not skinnier) kick-started after she spent time battling an eating disorder at 18 years old, it looks like she never misses a day of workouts, often hitting the gym both in the morning and night, lifting weighs, boxing, and using ropes to strengthen. And you know what? It's working out for her. Every time we see her show off the results of her badass routine in crop tops, leotards and bikinis we think "damn, girl, you could kick our asses." Allow Demi to be the inspiration you need to stick to that workout New Year's resolution you have in the books for 2017 with the most badass photos of her strong core.

How to Channel the '80s Without Looking Too Hard Core

If you keep track of fashion, then you know we saw '80s influence on both the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 runways. Bold shoulders, wrapped leather miniskirts, flashy metallic shoes, and wide belts that cinched the waist all confirmed these decade-specific trends are back. But they're refreshed and modern, so you don't have to be over the top about your look.

Just take a step back: instead of thinking costume-like (i.e. leg warmers, scrunchies, and slashed tees), slowly introduce '80s-inspired pieces into your own wardrobe, and don't let them overwhelm your outfit. Some of our favorite bloggers are already pros.

They've been swapping off-the-shoulder tops for poufy sleeves but keeping it simple in a favorite pair of jeans. They're working one standout statement earring, but completing the look with a feminine designer bag. Just read on for a few tips and tricks, then shop some key essentials that will help you warm up to the idea.

The Best (and Worst) Diets of 2017

Looking to change up your eating habits? U.S. News just evaluated 38 diets with a panel of certified experts to deliver the best and worst of what's out there. Essentially, U.S. News did all the legwork so you don't have to mess around.

The diet judges in question? "Nationally recognized experts in diet, nutrition, obesity, food psychology, diabetes, and heart disease," U.S. News said in a press release. The list included big names like Dr. David L. Katz, MD, and Andrea N. Giancoli, RD. These experts reviewed each diet and rated it by the following seven categories:

  • How easy it is to follow
  • Ability to produce short-term weight loss
  • Ability to produce long-term weight loss
  • Nutritional completeness
  • Safety
  • Potential for preventing and managing diabetes
  • Potential for preventing and managing heart disease

Here's what went down and how diets like Weight Watchers and Whole30 stacked up.

The Best Overall

The best diets overall were determined by the expert panelists; they commended "well-balanced diets that are not restrictive and remain sustainable over the long-term," which is "teaching dieters lifelong positive eating habits." They referred to some of them as "lifestyle diets," touting their sustainability. Many of these diets have also been backed up by significant studies and data.

  1. DASH: "For seventh year in a row, DASH diet is ranked #1 overall," said U.S. News. Learn about the DASH diet.
  2. Mediterranean: Another returning veteran was the Harvard-recommended Mediterranean diet.
  3. MIND: The MIND diet combines the DASH and Mediterranean diet to hone in on brain health, so it's no wonder it came in third place.

Best Weight-Loss Diet

These diets were rated specifically on their short- and long-term weight-loss effectiveness. "Some dieters want to drop pounds fast, while others, looking years ahead, are aiming for slow and steady. Equal weighting accepts both goals as worthy," they said.

  1. Weight Watchers
  2. Volumetrics
  3. Jenny Craig

The Worst

  1. Whole30: "Whole30 is the lowest ranked diet overall for the second year in a row," said U.S. News. "Experts criticize the Paleo and Whole30 diets, in particular, for being 'fad diets' that unnecessarily wipe out entire food groups. These diets perform poorly because they are too restrictive and are not easily sustainable in the long term."
  2. Dukan: Similarly to Atkins and Keto, the protein-heavy Dukan diet has been noted as potentially dangerous as it eradicates major food groups.
  3. Paleo: As previously noted, the Paleo diet is said to lack sustainability due to its restrictiveness.

The Doctor-Approved Secret to Clearing Your Hormonal Acne That Actually Works

When I tell you how I finally cleared up my hormonal acne, it is going to sound so painstakingly obvious that it might even seem . . . annoying. To make a long story short: I met with a doctor who helped me balance my hormones and improve my gut health, and my skin has never looked better.

At the start of Spring, I booked an appointment with Dr. Keith Berkowitz, an MD (internist) located in NYC who worked with Dr. Robert C. Atkins (as in the Atkins diet) for six years and now specializes in how eating affects health. He gave me a glucose test, took my blood, analyzed the lab results, and diagnosed me with reactive hypoglycemia. The latter means I process sugar unusually quickly, so I can't eat much of it (even fruit!). I learned I had high testosterone levels and was iodine deficient.

According to the American Thyroid Association, iodine is an element (not made by the body) needed for the production of the thyroid hormone. You get iodine from your diet and various foods, and if you do not have enough of it, you can't make the thyroid hormone, which regulates your metabolism as well as heart and digestive function, muscle control, brain development, and bone maintenance.

I have not changed my skin care routine or received any new spa treatments.

"Women today are struggling with increased hormonal imbalance causing estrogen dominance, low levels of progesterone, and high levels of testosterone and DHEA [an endogenous steroid hormone]," Dr. Berkowitz told me via email. "This is complicated by the overall decrease in hormone levels as we age. It leads to women having dull, dry skin; a rush of wrinkles; increased pigmentation; and increased acne."

So I began on a journey to balance out what was going on internally by changing my diet and taking supplements. When it came to eating, I had previously spent a year living off of morning smoothies and eliminating gluten and dairy. Though it was technically "healthy," I was eating way too much fruit and spiking my blood sugar.

Dr. Berkowitz tweaked my diet so that I was eating more balanced, portion-controlled meals and snacks that include carbohydrates (including vegetables and fruits) with high-fiber foods and lean protein or healthy fats (like avocado). "It is important that you eat three meals and one snack every day," he explained of his general diet philosophy. "Eating balanced meals will minimize fluctuations in blood sugar and increases in insulin levels."

He immediately added bread back into my regime, but only low-carb (Alvarado Street Bakery Sprouted Flax Seed Bread), and I can have just one piece at a time to ensure I am not carb-loading. I was permitted low-lactose dairy, such as goat cheese, since it is a great source of protein. In addition, I eat a lot of organic chicken and salmon, eggs, salads dressed with olive oil and lemon (rather than sugary dressing), and low-carb Wasa crackers topped with hummus and avocado. My smoothies were tweaked: instead of blending in four fruits, I can have one (usually low-sugar, antioxidant-rich berries). Any time I do eat fruit, I can have half the amount (such as half a pear) and mix it with protein, such as a spoon of almond butter. Eating this way has stabilized my blood sugar (I no longer get 3 p.m. sugar cravings), and I feel less restless overall.

On the supplements front, I started taking kelp supplements to help with my iodine deficiency, DIM Plus to give me an estrogen boost, and theanine, which just helps me relax at night.

I expected to debloat (I did!) and lose a few pounds (check!), but what I did not see coming was how these tweaks would significantly affect my skin. Pre-Dr. Berkowitz, I had combination skin, meaning I would occasionally get pimples in places I am greasier (usually my cheeks and chin). And every month a few days before my period, I got a few "lurkers" (below-the-skin pimples) around my chin. These are typically caused by hormones and can't be cured by creams - they have to go away on their own.

After a Summer spent traveling as far as Greece and Prague, wearing tons of gooey sunscreen, and straight-up sweating, I expected to see my usual cluster of whiteheads on my cheeks. I have also waited each month for the arrival of those chin lurkers. But for the past three months, my skin has been completely and totally clear. I have no dryness and no oiliness. The lines on my forehead are naturally smoothing out and the redness around my nose fading. I have not changed my skin care routine or received any new spa treatments.

What had changed was my gut health. "Tiny bacteria in the gut are one of the major control systems in the body," Dr. Berkowitz explained. "These bacteria have a direct role in helping maintain the health of the skin. They help your absorb nutrients needed to protect and repair itself. They protect the integrity of the gut lining. The gut lining helps protect against inflammation (which ages skin), and it protects the skin environmental toxin damage."

He also told me that gut in the bacteria can cause acne, because that area produces something called substance P. This affects sebum production (the cause of oily skin).

My gut bacteria wasn't all that had been regulated after three months of sticking to Dr. Berkowitz's plan: my hormones tested more balanced, my iodine levels were better, and my glucose more stable.

"The gut lining helps protect against inflammation (which ages skin), and it protects the skin environmental toxin damage."

"Your eating plan led to your hormones being better balanced - lowering DHEA and testosterone - and having better balance with progesterone and estrogen," Dr. Berkowitz told me when I asked how this could have affected my skin. "The lifestyle also leads to lower levels of cortisol [a hormone that regulates stress, metabolism, and inflammation] and insulin [the hormone that regulates metabolism and gives your cells energy]." He noted that when these hormones are high, it can cause drier skin and premature aging. This is because there is a connection between stress and the deterioration of cells, and skin is made up of cells.

A hormone imbalance can also cause discoloration of the skin. "Estrogen and progesterone can trigger the melasma, which are brown or light gray patches of pigmentation that most commonly appear on the face," he said. "It usually appears between the ages of 20-50 and is most common in pregnant women or those on an oral contraceptive pill."

In addition, he shared that low estrogen can lead to decreased collagen production and more wrinkling of the skin. Low levels of progesterone are associated with decreased skin elasticity. And a deficiency in DHEA is problematic, because it helps control oil production. DHEA also increases collagen production, which you want for youthful-looking skin.

When it comes to testosterone, having too much can lead to acne through an increased sebum production. So that explains why decreasing my testosterone levels eliminated my breakouts.

Though my situation was very specific, others can benefit from getting their blood tested and tweaking in specific ways that make sense for them (as instructed by a professional MD). While we are in no way telling you to run out and try a bunch of supplements to balance all of this out (please talk to your doctor first!), regulating your hormones and improving your gut health can directly give you clearer skin with better tone and texture. It happened to me!

If you get the OK from your doctor, here is a list of supplements (from Dr. Berkowitz) and what they do:

  • Alpha lipoic acid: helps stop the stiffening of collagen fibers.
  • Antioxidants: stop free radical production. For example, vitamins A, C, and E help to better hydrate the skin.
  • Hydrolyzed collagen: reduces wrinkles.
  • Hyaluronic acid: hydrates skin. (Yes, you can take the popular skin care ingredient as a supplement, as well!)
  • Astaxanthin: fights free radicals and prevents damage from the sun and other environmental toxins.

Here are specific supplements for acne:

  • Zinc: helps accelerate the development of new clear skin cells and reduce the inflammatory response to bacteria.
  • Probiotic: promotes healthy or good bacteria and thus decreases the inflammatory response that damages skin.
  • Coconut oil: helps replace the protective acid layer that keeps skin healthy and reduces inflammation.

He also shared an anti-inflammatory eating plan:

  • Avoid refined carbohydrates, which increase insulin and inflammation.
  • Avoid gluten, cow's milk dairy, processed foods, and excessive amounts of omega-6, which are all pro-inflammatory.
  • Increase use of spices: turmeric, cinnamon, garlic, and parsley all have anti-inflammatory effects to help keep the skin healthy and slow down the aging process.

If You Prefer Emily Ratajkowski's Bikinis, You Obviously Haven't Seen Her Baywatch Suit

Don't get us wrong, Emily Ratajkowski looks good in a two-piece. In fact, the supermodel's come up with so many ideas for mixing and matching her bikinis, we can barely keep up. But while vacationing with her friends Bella Hadid, Elsa Hosk, Hannah Ferguson, Lais Ribeiro, Hailey Baldwin, and Rose Bertram in the Bahamas, Emily pulled a style switch-up.

Her red Solid & Striped design was fitted and sleek, with not a cutout in sight, and the plunging neckline was a touch sexy - very simple, very effortless, very Baywatch. Emily completed her look with a dainty chain necklace, allowing us full focus on her one-piece. While clearly, most of her pals prefer classic tops and bottoms, Emily is making a case for coverage at the beach. Read on for a look, then shop similar silhouettes for yourself.

The 10 Secrets of Happy, Healthy Women

Ready to make space for some much needed balance in your world? Follow these simple and straightforward rules to cultivate the happy and healthy life you've always craved.

Number One: Keep Mornings Calm

Even five minutes of pure relaxation make a huge difference in your mood and energy all day. Leave plenty of time to eat a filling breakfast, stretch or meditate, and have a calm commute to start every day out on a happy Zen note.

Number Two: Make Time to Move

Exercise ups endorphins, boosts immunity, relieves stress, and keeps you feeling strong and confident in your body. There's no need to go crazy with an intense hour-long workout every day of the week, but a little daily exercise is some of the best medicine available for the body and mind.

Number Three: Eat Real Food

Processed junk food makes your blood sugar spike, pumps your body with unnatural ingredients, and leaves you feeling hungry and unsatisfied soon after you eat. Choosing real, whole, all-natural clean foods just makes sense if you are serious about your health and happiness.

Number Four: Reach For Water

When feeling fatigued or in need of a boost, don't immediately reach for a caffeinated or sugary beverage. Often, a foggy, tired brain is a sign of dehydration, so sip on plenty of water all day to keep energy levels up and soaring.

Number Five: Listen When Your Body Talks

Happy people help their bodies work with them instead of against them. They put down their fork when they've had enough, hit up a yoga class when they need a release, and don't pour that third (or fourth) cocktail when they know it's not a good idea. If you're willing to listen, your body has plenty to say.

Number Six: Love Those Vegetables

Vegetables are not added to a plate because your body has to eat them: it's because it wants to eat them. Colorful produce is packed with nutrients that keep your body functioning at its top potential.

Number Seven: Invest in Fitness and Health

Don't wait until you're feeling poorly and out of sorts to take care of your needs. Commit to that studio package, get an occasional massage, and make those doctor appointments that it's time to schedule.

Number Eight: Remember to Be Grateful

When someone's attention is focused on lack, that's exactly what they're going to get: more lack. Instead of focusing on the job they don't have or a number on the scale they don't want to see, positive people are not afraid to give thanks for all the gifts they have in life - both large and small.

Number Nine: Slow Down to Smile

Life is not always so serious for happy and healthy folks. They make time to connect with loved ones and are not afraid to show kindness to strangers. Laughing helps too.

Number 10: Rest

When tired or feeling worn out, don't schedule another activity or commit to another event. Having healthy boundaries keeps you feeling safe, connected, and energized, so take alone time to recharge at home. And when it's time to get some sleep, turn off the computers, stop binging on Netflix, and get to bed.

Why This Blogger Simply Refuses to Go on a "Diet" and You Should, Too!

This post was originally posted on Yanira Garza and written by Yanira Garza, who is a part of POPSUGAR Select Latina.

First, let me start by saying dieting is bullsh*t. I love food, and I like to eat. However, I also have always been a very thin woman. I was 110 pounds when I got married in 2006, so, naturally, when I was pregnant with my daughter, I figured I could eat the whole house and not gain a pound. Uh, not true.

I gained almost 70 pounds and because eating healthy and exercising were things I did not understand, it was hard for my body to bounce back. Two months at the gym changed that, and at 135 pounds, I still wasn't at my prebirth weight. But, I looked better than ever. With my second, I embarked on a clean eating journey towards the end that helped me bounced back almost a week later. When E was just two months old, I was 125 pounds. Baby M brought on a few old bad eating habits, and after slowly losing the weight, my father's passing helped me find passion in tubs of ice cream and 10 pounds more were added.

Now, let me add that I do not need to lose weight. I'm curvier, a bit soft in the middle, but that's not a bad thing. At 5'8" and 150 pounds, I'm the size of a fabulous woman. But I do need to eat better. The pizza, the ice cream, the sweets are getting out of hand. My emotional eating has spiraled so out of control that it is causing headaches, dizziness, irritability, exhaustion, lack of energy and a serious creative block. For a mom of three, no bueno. So instead of a diet, since I'm not here for that yo-yo type life, I'm focusing on eating better and doing better to simply be better. It isn't about a number on the scale. They all look the same on my body anyhow.

In a little less than a month, I will be 32 and I cannot start another year of my life letting old habit resurface. Of those, I have plenty and I need not one. So yes to more water, fresh food from the farmer's market, less meat (and more greens), long walks, stretching, great coffee in the morning and soothing teas at night, not looking at the scale, actually sleeping eight hours, disconnecting more and actually reading things that matter, because my health matters.

I write this as I enjoy a nice lunch of roasted sweet peppers and onion tacos, drizzled in avocado salsa. Here's to good living.

How This Mom's Morning Routine Sets Her Up for Success

There's no denying that family mornings are hectic. Parents and kids need to eat breakfast, get dressed, gather belongings… there are lots of moving parts, and an ill-fitting sock, a missing glove, or spilled orange juice can derail the schedule in an instant. But busy mornings don't have to be stressful, and there are ways to find moments of bliss within the chaos. Here are a few methods that work for my (mostly functional) family of four.

Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / THEM TOO

Wake Up Early. I set my alarm for 20 minutes before my youngest child usually yells, "Mama!" What do I do in this time? I stretch, freshen up, pull on a robe, and page through the newspaper or listen to morning news radio for a few minutes - by myself. That alone time is the perfect way to create a calm front to meet the whirlwind of energy that my kids create when they literally jump out of bed. Not a morning person? Try 10 minutes early at first and I'll bet you'll find this change helps you feel more rested overall. Bonus: This practice gives me a jump on the day when I sit down to my desk, too. No need to scroll through headlines, I've already had my morning news fix, so I can get right to work. That means the whole day is more productive.

Cue the Music. When my children bound down the stairs with requests for everything from clean shirts to buttermilk pancakes (not likely on a weekday, kid!), I put on some music. As a family, we created a "Morning Mix," which includes a little Beach Boys, a few Adele songs, and yes, one favorite Alvin and the Chipmunks number. The music creates a sense of ease that helps the morning flow, plus it's a mood booster that lifts their-and my-spirits well into the afternoon hours.

Savor a Taste. As the rush to brush teeth and put on shoes and tie ponytails swirls around me, I keep my sanity by focusing on the steaming cup of McCafé® coffee I'll pick up after school drop-off. Each warm, rich sip reminds me to take things slow and steady as I begin the part of the day that is my own.

Bag the Accessories. Winter comes with… stuff. We stay organized by keeping child hats, gloves, and scarves in a bag in the entry closet. When the kids come home, they know the accessories go right into the bag. As we head out the door, the bag gets dumped and everyone grabs their respective items. It's messy but it works, which is pretty much our family motto.

Keep warm and cozy this winter with deals on your favorite hot beverage from McDonald's - a McCafé Coffee, a McCafé Latte, a McCafé Mocha, or a McCafé Hot Chocolate. Available at participating McDonald's locations for a limited time only.

At this rate, we're expecting tons more photos in the months to come.

The Most Important Details Surrounding Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's Divorce

In late May, news broke that Amber Heard had filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, whom she married in a lavish island ceremony in February 2015. Although the couple had seemed happy and the news came out of left field, Amber, 30, also filed a restraining order against the 53-year-old Alice Through the Looking Glass actor, which included allegations of domestic abuse. After much back-and-forth, the former couple confirmed on Aug. 16 that they had settled their divorce, but it looks like they're still trying to figure things out. Keep reading to see the most important information about their relationship and the events leading up to their settlement.

This post has been updated with new information.

  1. Amber files for divorce from Johnny. Three days after Johnny's mother passed away, Amber filed for divorce on May 25 and cited irreconcilable differences in her petition. The couple has been married for 15 months and has no prenuptial agreement.
  2. Johnny speaks out about the ordeal. A short statement given through his representative to Us Weekly on May 26 that said: "Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly."
  3. Amber is granted a restraining order from Johnny. The Magic Mike XXL actress filed a domestic violence restraining order accompanied by graphic photos of her bruised face on the morning of May 27. A source told People that the bruises aren't a rare occurrence, saying, "This was not an isolated event" and that "this was only the latest incident." Later that day, Amber was photographed coming out of court after a judge granted her request for temporary order.
  4. Johnny was photographed fitting an elderly woman with a hearing aid on the afternoon of May 27, during a visit to Lisbon, Portugal, with his band, The Hollywood Vampires. Later that evening, Johnny performed at the Rock in Rio festival and was pictured with his bandmates ahead of the show. While he has yet to release a statement about Amber's claims or the restraining order against him, a judge denied Amber's request for sole possession of their dog, Pistol, stating that there was "insufficient showing of need to protect pet dog."

  5. Vanessa Paradis and Lily-Rose Depp come to Johnny's defense. Upon hearing about Amber's domestic violence allegations against Johnny, both the actor's ex-partner and daughter penned notes in his support. On May 27, Vanessa wrote, "I believe with all my heart that these recent allegations being made are outrageous," claiming, "In all the years I have known Johnny, he has never been physically abusive with me and this looks nothing like the man I lived with for 14 wonderful years." Likewise, Lily took to Instagram and shared a childhood photo of her and her dad, along with a note that read, "My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know, he's been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same."
  6. Comedian Doug Stanhope claims Amber is blackmailing Johnny. In a guest column for The Wrap, Doug - who has been friends with Johnny for years - wrote at length about how he believes Amber isn't as innocent as she seems. "Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn't agree to her terms," he said. "Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified."
  7. Amber's lawyer slams blackmail accusations. Attorney Peter Sample was quick to shut down Doug's article about Amber with a follow-up statement to The Wrap that reads: "[The] allegations against Ms. Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false," adding that the claim she's blackmailing Johnny "has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit."
  8. The legal team for Amber speaks out against Johnny. Lead attorney Samantha F. Spector and cocounsel Joseph P. Koenig provided an in-depth statement to Just Jared on May 31 defending the Magic Mike XXL actress. "As the result of Amber's decision to decline giving an initial statement to the LAPD, her silence has been used against her by Johnny's team. Amber did not provide a statement to the LAPD in an attempt to protect her privacy and Johnny's career," they began, before ending the lengthy statement with, "We took the high road. Unfortunately, Johnny's team immediately went to the press and began viciously attacking Amber's character. Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money. Amber is a brave and financially independent woman who is showing the courage of her convictions by doing the right thing against Johnny's relentless army of lawyers and surrogates. The Family Law Court is not going to be influenced by misinformation placed in the social media based on anonymous sources. Amber is the victim. Amber is a hero."
  9. People reveals new photos of a battered Amber. A photo of a bruised Amber appeared on the cover of People's June 13 issue (which was released on June 1). In its exclusive photos, she has both a bruised eye and a cut lip. In its cover story, People also revealed details from the court papers, in which Amber alleges that Johnny showed up at her birthday party "inebriated and high" and "violently shoved me to the floor." She also states that Depp hit her with a cell phone.
  10. Police are called to Amber and Johnny's home. According to reports, Amber's attorney called law enforcement on June 13, when Johnny's representative showed up to their home to retrieve his belongings. Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department told Us Weekly that the move wasn't in violation of Amber's restraining order as neither one of the parties were home at the time. The officers simply stood by to "ensure that only the items listed in the court order were being removed."
  11. Amber retracts her petition for spousal support. The actress's attorney filed a declaration to withdraw her request for spousal support from Johnny, saying the only reason she requested it was because she thought it was standard procedure in a divorce case. Amber, who wanted $50,000 per month from the actor, says the request is being "used against me to distract and divert the public away from the very serious real issue of domestic violence."
  12. Amber plans to testify in court. "As of now, the plan is for Amber to testify on Friday," a source told Us Weekly on June 15. According to court documents, Amber stated she "could and would competently testify" if called as a witness. However, Johnny's attorney, Laura Wasser, also filed documents requesting that the court deny Heard's testimony if she failed to "appear for deposition" or did not "produce the requested documents at her deposition." There is no word yet on whether Johnny will attend the hearing.
  13. Johnny files to keep divorce details private. On July 20, the actor's legal team asked a judge to order that his financial records be kept private throughout the rest of divorce proceedings. His attorney, Laura Wasser, argued that although Amber has the right to see his finances, the media does not. "Johnny is merely trying to protect the documents and information Amber seeks from unwarranted disclosure to the media and other individuals not involved in the case," she said in the official documents.
  14. Amber accuses her ex of stalling their divorce. In documents obtained by Us Weekly on July 26, it was revealed that Amber has accused Johnny of stonewalling their split. "[Depp] and his counsel's demand for the execution of these two non-disclosure agreements which impose undue financial hardships and burdens on [Heard] are nothing but blatant threats by [Depp] and are illustrative of his continued attempts to thwart real progress in this case," they read.
  15. The domestic violence hearing gets pushed back. A status hearing was held on Aug. 9, which resulted in Depp and Heard's domestic violence hearing being delayed. The reason for the delay seems to be that neither Depp nor Heard has completed their depositions. Depp's lawyer is requesting that Heard do hers first, and that there be time between hers and his. The hearing is now scheduled to take place on Aug. 17.
  16. A disturbing video allegedly showing Johnny arguing with Amber leaks. A day before the actress was set to be deposed, a clip surfaced of Johnny throwing a fit over an unknown incident. In the footage, Johnny is seen slamming kitchen cabinets, breaking objects, and yelling at Amber as she appears to record everything on her phone. While many speculated that Amber leaked the footage, she denied those reports on Saturday.
  17. Johnny and Amber settle their divorce. "Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love," the two said in a joint statement to TMZ on Aug. 16. "Neither party has made false accusations for financial gains. There was never an intent of physical or emotional harm." According to TMZ, the actress also withdrew her request for a domestic violence restraining order with prejudice, meaning she cannot refile the case.
  18. Amber's lawyer retracts her statement. After resolving the divorce on Aug. 16, Amber Heard's attorney, Samantha F. Spector, took back her client's previous statement about the settlement. "The statement is untrue and we retract it, without qualification," she told ABC News. "My assertion that Amber Heard has been vindicated in the court of public opinion is not true. We regret the error and apologize to Johnny Depp."
  19. Amber donates her $7 million divorce settlement to charity. In a statement to People on Aug. 18, the actress revealed that the money would be divided amongst charities with "a particular focus to stop violence against women," including the ACLU and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, where she has volunteered for over a decade.
  20. Johnny refuses to finalize the divorce and donate the settlement. Their divorce hit another snag on Dec. 14 when it was revealed that Johnny still hasn't donated all of the money he owes Amber. In legal documents obtained by E! News, it appears the Pirates of the Caribbean actor is not only pushing back against finalizing the agreement, but has violated a court-allotted timeline of requirements that includes "the division of personal property, shipping [Amber's] belongings from his private island in the Bahamas, transferring a Range Rover into [Amber's] name and Johnny's outstanding debts incurred from cars, Neil Lane jewelry, and stylist fees." So far all he's done is pay the initial $200,000 donation, so Amber and her legal team are fighting back.
  21. Johnny wants Amber to pay legal fees toward his attorneys' fees and costs. In new court documents filed by Johnny's divorce attorney, Laura Wasser, on Tuesday, the actor is asking that the court order Amber to pay $100,000 toward his attorneys' fees and costs. He also wants that amount deducted from his next divorce settlement payment if Amber fails to pay within 10 days of the court's order.
  22. Amber's attorney hits back with a spirited reply. In response to Laura Wasser's filing, Amber's attorney Pierce O'Donnell gave a statement to Us Weekly about how they intend to proceed. "After his string of recent setbacks at the box office, I'm glad that Johnny Depp seems to have rediscovered his comic touch with this laughable motion," he said. "It is just another lame attempt by Mr. Depp and his team to not pay my client the money she is owed. We look forward to prevailing in court - and to getting sick children and women in need the money that Mr. Depp is denying them."
  23. Johnny's team claims Amber just wants her 15 minutes of fame. In new documents obtained by E! News in December 2016, Johnny's team states that Amber is using their divorce to seek more fame. "Her request is entirely unnecessary under the law and suggests a last-ditch effort to garner media attention and somehow further her public persona by virtue of proximity to Johnny Depp. From the inception of this dissolution Amber has sought to build a case in the court of public opinion," the documents state. "Amber is now courting renewed media attention with this unnecessary Request for Order. Her application is not only a blatant attempt to extend her fifteen minutes of fame but also a waste of the Court's limited time and resources and an embarrassing grab for addition and unwarranted attorney's fees."

This Is How All Your Favorite Food Network Stars Make Chicken Noodle Soup

It's hard to screw up classic chicken noodle soup. But whether you're making it for the first time ever or are a seasoned pro looking to switch it up a bit, look no further than these popular recipes from some of our favorite Food Network hosts. Paula Deen adds a creamy touch, Tyler Florence goes the extra mile with homemade stock, and - naturally - Giada puts an Italian spin on the traditional soup. Keep the chill away and cozy up to a steaming bowl of comfort food, courtesy of the following pros.

Tyler Florence: Make Your Own Stock

Tyler Florence doesn't cut any corners, and especially not when it comes to chicken noodle soup. The homemade stock in Tyler Florence's chicken noodle soup is what sets this soup way, way above a canned version. Don't be intimidated - all you need is a whole chicken, a few fresh vegetables, and herbs, and you've got homemade stock for a batch of this soup and beyond.

Paula Deen: Don't Skimp on the Cream

There's no shame in adding a little fat to chicken noodle soup, making it creamier and even more comforting. Paula Deen's chicken noodle soup calls for heavy cream, parmesan, sherry, and mushrooms, so it's a bit more bulked up than the traditional brothy soup you're probably used to. Served with crusty French bread for dipping, it's the ultimate wintertime comfort food.

Giada De Laurentiis: Swap Spaghetti

You know Giada is going to put an Italian spin on just about anything, especially anything with the word "noodle" in it. Instead of egg noodles or small pasta, Giada's chicken noodle soup calls for spaghetti broken up into two-inch pieces. Giada also recommends adding a parmesan rind (the rind adds tons of flavor), lemon juice, and grated Romano cheese.

Alton Brown: Add an Aromatic Herb

Sure, you're used to thyme and parsley in chicken noodle soup, but try Alton Brown's chicken noodle soup with finely chopped tarragon. The aramotic, anise-like herb adds an incredible depth of flavor that will leave you slurping up spoonful after spoonful.

Rachael Ray: Chop Parsnips

Along with the classic mirepoix of onions, carrots, and celery, Rachael Ray's quick chicken noodle soup calls for an unexpected vegetable: parsnips. The root vegetable adds substance and subtle flavor and pairs perfectly with the rest of the diced veggies.

Anne Burrell: Sprinkle Cinnamon and Nutmeg

When you're feeling really creative and need something out of the box, try Anne Burrell's chicken noodle soup. With ingredients you'd never expect - cinnamon, nutmeg, chickpeas, and cilantro - this isn't your average chicken noodle soup, but in a good way. The recipe has a five-star rating for a reason, and people can't get enough of the spiced, soul-warming soup.

We're Finally Getting One Taco Bell Dish Other Countries Have Had For Ages

Taco Bell devotees, this is not a drill: we're probably getting a hybrid between nachos and fries sometime soon. Yes, it's true! A Taco Bell location in Irvine, CA, is reportedly testing two intriguing new dishes: Crispy Chicken Chips (a type of thin chicken nugget shaped like a tortilla chip) and Loaded Seasoned Fries (the aforementioned heavenly hybrid).

This news will come as a welcome surprise from people who have enjoyed Taco Bell internationally. Locations in Canada, Latin America, and Japan have offered a similar dish, Fries Supreme, for ages now - and it's about time that the US got a taste of the good stuff, wouldn't you say?

Taco Bell describes the Canadian version of this dish as follows:

"These freshly prepared fries topped with seasoned ground beef, warm zesty nacho cheese sauce, diced ripe tomatoes, chives and reduced-fat sour cream are a Canadian legend!"

Meanwhile, Foodbeast's description of the California test dish is strikingly similar, with one major difference: seasoned french fries. We'll consider that an added bonus to the US version of the cheesy, nacho-y treat!

Check out pictures of the possible new addition to Taco Bell's menu, then peep some photos of the international options of loaded fries. Warning: you might need a napkin, because you'll be drooling by the end.

Ryan Reynolds Addresses Deadpool's Pansexuality and Teases Many More Films

In 2015, Marvel's R-rated Deadpool became a surprise box office juggernaut, meaning more adult-oriented superhero movies could, in fact, succeed. Between the killer soundtrack, tons of naked Ryan Reynolds, and a hint about the inclusion of Cable, it has become quite clear that the sequel will have a lot to live up to. Of course, we've gotten plenty of details about Deadpool 2, but one question hasn't quite been answered: will the hero's pansexuality become more explicit with the second go-round? We may have gotten an answer, thanks to a new Variety interview with Reynolds. Oh, and there's even a hint of many more movies to come.

  • Ryan Reynolds, on Deadpool's pansexuality: "What love is to Deadpool may not be what love is to Batman or someone else. I think that could be played up more. He's an outsider in every way, shape, and form."
  • On reprising his role in the years to come: "I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool. We have outlines and stories for a number of different films."
  • On perfecting the script: "I'd write 10 more jokes. I never, ever slept. Or I was sleeping at a perfect right angle - just sitting straight, constantly working at the same time."

Adele and Simon Konecki Step Out Wearing Matching Gold Bands - Did They Get Married?

Adele may officially be off the market. The "Hello" singer and her longtime partner Simon Konecki sparked marriage rumors after they both stepped out wearing matching gold bands on their ring fingers in LA last week. Adele sported the bauble while doing some grocery shopping around town on Dec. 27, and four days later, Simon donned a similar ring while shopping with their 4-year-old son, Angelo.

Adele and Simon met through pal Ed Sheeran and have been together for five years now. While neither Adele nor Simon have addressed the wedding rumors, the singer could not help but gush over Simon during an interview with Australia's 60 Minutes back in November 2015, saying, "Being in such an amazing relationship with someone that's so there for me and so loyal and is really part of my core now, that's what made me write about everything I've ever done, because I've got his love. I know that sounds a bit like I'm trying to write a Hollywood movie, but it's only because of him and because of our kid and stuff that I'm all right." Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

A Brief History of Pharrell Williams's Feminist Awakening

On Monday night, Pharrell Williams honored the female-dominated cast of Hidden Figures at the Palm Springs International Film Festival gala by asking the audience to applaud women's achievements "up till now in human history." On Tuesday morning, he was on the front page of the New York Times website, proclaiming in an interview that the movie, which he produced, was "chipping away at the pro-male narrative that's out there right now, which needs to go." So how did the man who shot to mainstream fame with "Blurred Lines" - and who once said it was "not possible" for him to be a feminist - get to this place? Let's examine.
