Why ABC and Dustin Lance Black Fought So Hard to Use That "F" Word on TV
Dustin Lance Black is about to rock the TV world with a beautiful, inspiring, incredible story. We Will Rise is a new show on ABC that focuses on the story of the gay rights movement, from its inception during the Stonewall Riots in 1969 all the way up to the present day. During ABC's panel at this year's Television Critics' Association Winter press tour, Black had plenty of profound quotes about why this is such an important story to tell, but one particular revelation seemed especially striking. When asked if ABC had placed any limitations on the project, the answer was a resounding no. What's interesting, though, is ABC helped Black fight to include a controversial word that will surely ruffle a few feathers. He wanted to make sure When We Rise would include the word "fag."
"That's a word I've heard. Certainly, it's a word that LGBT people generations before me heard."
"There were no limitations from ABC. . . . I will say ABC actually stood up and fought for me because I don't know how hard and fast a rule it is or law it is, but it certainly is a rule you are not to say 'fag' on television," Black explained. "And I said to the lawyers at ABC, 'I don't know how we do this show authentically without saying "fag,"' because that's a word I've heard. Certainly, it's a word that LGBT people generations before me heard. And they stood next to me and fought for us to be able to say that word on television so that this experience was authentic in that way. So, if anything, ABC helped to push the boundaries a bit so that it didn't feel inauthentic."
In a present-day context, the word "fag" remains controversial. The term has evolved from its usage as a slur and has been reappropriated by the gay community as a term of endearment to strip away its harmful implications. Whatever feelings you may have about the word's modern muddled context, though, it is vital it appear as the slur it once was in a story about the LGBT's fight for civil rights. Dustin Lance Black hit the nail on the head: without it, the story would be incomplete. The experience of the audience would ultimately not be authentic. So, while it might seem incendiary to use "fag" on a historically family-friendly network and while there will almost surely be blowback in response, I believe the decision should be met with full support.

Is Once Upon a Time Getting Another Season? Here's What We Know
Once Upon a Time just announced its midseason premiere date, but the future for the series is still unclear. If the show does get renewed for a seventh season, fans should brace themselves for a whole lot of change. At the Television Critics' Association's press tour on Jan. 10, ABC Chief Channing Dungey talked with Entertainment Weekly about the future of the series. "[Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis] would be looking for the seventh season to be a springboard in a new direction from a narrative standpoint," she said. "Which doesn't necessarily mean that we're not bringing cast back; it's just how do you kind of hit the reset button in a way that gives you opportunity to expand the stories that we're telling?"
Does this mean Emma Swan will really die at the end of this season? Not exactly. "Whenever there's change, there's always transition," she added. "It's just too hard to really say more of anything. Until they really get their pitch finalized, it's hard to really be more specific." In a previous interview with EW, she also opened up about how the series might come to a close if it does get canceled. "This is absolutely a show that is beloved to us and if and when we decide to end it, we want to do it the right way and really give the fans the ending that they deserve," she said. "But I will say that Eddie and Adam have some really good ideas for future seasons."
Meet the Workout That's Being Called "the End of Exercise"
With the explosion of dance's popularity as a form of exercise, it's no wonder that CIZE by Shaun T. was the number one Google fitness search of 2016.
If you've ever tried a Shaun T. workout, you likely have a vivid memory of your first experience - he's not playing around, and you're going to get a serious workout. In fact, his workouts are so intense, they're literally called "Insanity" and "Asylum." Sounds . . . not intimidating at all, right? [Editor's note: I tried Insanity years ago before my fitness journey really began and assumed I had gone into cardiac arrest mere moments after beginning the DVD.]
"Exercise is something you have to do; CIZE is something you'll WANT to do," Shaun T. says in his promotional video for CIZE. We can't argue that dance is the one form of exercise that really doesn't feel like you're working out and possibly the most fun way to break a sweat.
Here's how the program works and why people are obsessed with it . . .
What Is It?
It's a dance cardio workout series, designed by trainer Shaun T. Prepare to watch him feel himself in a major way, dressed like an early '90s hip-hop star. He's really living his truth in this workout.
You access CIZE on a series of DVDs you can purchase from the Beachbody Fitness website (home of P90X and more).
What You Get
- Three DVDs, six dance workouts.
- A beginner calendar and advanced calendar, to customize your schedule.
- A nutrition plan. Because any amount of exercise can be undone with poor dietary choices, CIZE comes with a nutrition guide by Shaun T. that helps you stay on track for your health and fitness goals.
Reasons You'll Love It
- Learn to dance. Many reviewers stated "I can't dance" yet miraculously became dancers. If you are not a dancer, don't have rhythm, or have been too intimidated to try a dance class in public, now's your chance to do it in the privacy of your own home.
- Have fun. As mentioned, dance is ridiculously fun, and if you hate exercise, this might be the way for you to get active.
- Total-body workout. Intense cardio, moving every muscle group, conditioning your entire body? Yes.
- Good music. You're not dancing to elevator music or some heinous generic beats from a free MP3 site. You'll have fun, fast, energizing tunes you love to dance to, by Sia, Destiny's Child, Missy Elliott, Ariana Grande, LL Cool J, and Bruno Mars.
- Potentially free socks. If you're willing to share your before and after photos with Shaun T., he will send you a pair of socks. Which is exactly the reward you were hoping for, right?
Many reviewers have loved it, while naysayers were unhappy with a lack of weight-loss results. But because we think exercise is about so much more than weight loss, we're eager to try - plus, any chance to see Shaun T. do his thing is a win in our book.

Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone Bring Their "City of Stars" to the City of Light
Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling barely had time to celebrate their big Golden Globes wins before they jetted off to Paris for another round of La La Land press. The duo hit the red carpet along with director Damien Chazelle on Tuesday night and posed for photos together after signing autographs for excited fans. Just days before landing in the City of Light, Emma, Ryan, and Damien all won big at the Golden Globes; Emma and Ryan took home trophies for best actress and best actor in a musical or comedy, respectfully, while Damien nabbed best director for his work on the film. The trio also won one of the night's biggest honors: best motion picture, musical or comedy. In addition to making us tear up with their heartfelt acceptance speeches, Ryan and Emma also made us laugh with their spot-on reactions to that blink-or-you-miss-it makeout between Ryan Reynolds and Emma's ex Andrew Garfield.
The First Footage of Joseph Fiennes Playing Michael Jackson Is Here and Oh No
When it was announced that Joseph Fiennes would play Michael Jackson in a British TV series, the internet, understandably, exploded. Hiring a white man to play a black man in the height of #OscarsSoWhite incited a digital riot, and nearly a year after the news, a teaser is here to remind us all that this was indeed a terrible, terrible idea. The episode, part of a series called Urban Myths airing on Sky Arts in the UK, is about a rumored road trip that Jackson went on with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando after 9/11. I'm just going to leave this video here, along with a picture of Fiennes on the red carpet. Do with this what you will.

10 Tragically Underrated Netflix Original Shows
With shows such as Orange Is the New Black, House of Cards, and the Marvel lineup (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Daredevil), Netflix is known for producing original, binge-worthy content. In fact in 2016 alone, ultrapopular shows such as Stranger Things, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, Fuller House, and The Crown premiered on the site, reducing our drive to actually leave the couch. Yet, with all of the phenomenal options available, not every show gets the buzz it deserves. To rectify that, take a look at the seven most underrated Netflix Originals that you need to start watching right now!
Ryan Gosling's Acceptance Speech Is the 1 Thing You Need to Watch From the Golden Globes
Remember how you were, like, totally over Ryan Gosling for a while? Well, you're back into him. Not only did he win our hearts in La La Land, he's starting to win all the awards for it too. Gosling won the Golden Globe on Sunday night and proceeded to give a beautifully touching speech about his gratitude for costar Emma Stone, director Damien Chazelle, and, most of all, wife Eva Mendes. He spoke about how while he was singing and dancing on a set, she was taking on quite a bit at home.
Pretty Little Liars Creator I. Marlene King Teases the "Deadly" Final Game
Of all the TV shows ending in 2017, one of the greatest losses may be Pretty Little Liars. With the show's seventh season comes a final big reveal: the identity of "A.D." and the truth behind their evil intentions. You know what this means, right? We can't get to the bottom of the show's final mystery without playing a game. It has, after all, been a major "A" trademark from the very beginning. So, what makes this last hurrah the biggest of them all? Well, it sounds like Hanna, Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Alison will be playing along for the duration of the season.
At this year's Television Critics' Association Winter press tour, creator I. Marlene King and producer Joseph Dougherty shed a bit of light on the dangers to come. "They're all going to be under a tremendous amount of pressure," Dougherty said. "Every incarnation has always been about trying to break the friends apart, and perhaps the pressure this time is more dangerous than it's ever been before. I think they come the closest they ever come to shattering." King, on the other hand, hinted at the big black box that appears in the season's trailer. "It's a board game that is created by 'A,' and he forces the PLLs to play this game in the final 10 episodes. . . . The stakes are incredibly high." King added, "This is the most shocking, the most romantic, the most deadly season."
We're Willing to Bet You Haven't Watched the Best Romantic Comedy on Netflix Yet
Last year, I was scrolling through Netflix desperate for something to watch on a Saturday night when I came across a show called Scrotal Recall. I paused for a variety of reasons. 1.) The name was probably the most absurd TV show title I'd heard possibly since Tom Cavanagh's Love Monkey in the mid-2000s, 2.) the thumbnail featured Antonia Thomas, one of my favorite actresses from the UK cult hit Misfits, and 3.) again, Scrotal Recall, people. The premise seemed interesting enough - a British 20-something discovers he has an STD and must notify all the women he's ever slept with - but then, as I'm sure a lot of other people did, I kept scrolling.
Fast-forward to last Saturday night, when I once again found myself looking for a new TV show. The first thing that popped up was a banner advertising the second season of a show called Lovesick, which I soon realized was Scrotal Recall with a more viewer-friendly makeover. Netflix, which took over producing the show's second season from the BBC in March 2016, could not have made a better choice in the rebranding. I immediately binged both seasons and discovered that what was hiding behind an over-the-top, slightly vulgar TV title all along was a brilliant, genuinely funny romantic comedy. Given good rom-coms are a rare find these days, both in TV and on the big screen, the show feels simultaneously nostalgic and fresh, like comfort food with a smart, modern twist. If you have plans for this weekend, cancel them and watch Lovesick instead. I promise you won't be disappointed, and here's why.
The Cast
The show's three core characters are Dylan, Luke, and Evie. English indie singer Johnny Flynn stars as Dylan, a hapless, well-meaning serial dater who falls in love at the drop of a hat. His boy-next-door looks and mannerisms are perfect for the role and serve as a great foil to his fast-talking, womanizing best friend, Luke (Daniel Ings, who is fantastic). As previously mentioned, Misfits alum Antonia Thomas rounds out the trio as Evie, Luke's college friend and their current flatmate, whose will-they-or-won't-they dynamic with Dylan makes for some of the show's most emotional moments.
The Unique Episode Structure
Once he receives his diagnosis in the pilot episode, Dylan writes out a list of every woman he's ever slept with. Each half-hour episode onward focuses on his attempts to reach out to one of them in the present day as he makes his way down the list and gives us flashbacks to what their past courtship was like (and more often than not, why it was a failure). From "Abigail" to "Phoebe," each new chapter reflecting on Dylan's desperate attempts to find true love gives us a better look at his friendships with Evie and Luke (the best part of the series, in my humble opinion) and hints that his best chance at having a real, lasting relationship has been right in front of him the whole time.
You Can Watch Both Seasons in One Day
With each episode clocking in at around 25 minutes, you can easily breeze through seasons one and two (which have six and eight episodes each, respectively) over a weekend. At this point, you'd be better off looking for reasons not to watch it, right?
Check out Lovesick on Netflix now!

What Exactly Is Taboo About? The Scoop on Tom Hardy's New Show
While Tom Hardy is a verified movie star, the actor is no stranger to TV. Every so often, he pops up on Peaky Blinders, and he has a crazy-looking new series of his own: Taboo. He created it alongside his father, Chips Hardy, and writer Steven Knight, who wrote Eastern Promises and, not coincidentally, Peaky Blinders. The drama, premiering Tuesday, is also executive-produced by Ridley Scott, and it looks insane. Here's the beginner's guide to everything you need to know about the show!
The Plot
James Keziah Delaney (Hardy) returns home to London after years traveling the world. He's been gone so long that people, including his own family, thought he must have died on his trip. He's come back to claim his stake on his father's shipping empire, but the family's dirty business tactics affect his life in terrible ways. Oh yeah, and there's black magic involved.
The Cast
In addition to Tom Hardy, Taboo stars Oona Chaplin, a Spanish actress you may notice from the "White Christmas" episode of Black Mirror. Jonathan Pryce (aka the High Sparrow from Game of Thrones), Franka Potente, and Michael Kelly are also in it.
The Trailer
The Premiere Date
The show initially premiered in the UK on BBC One, but it will begin airing on FX on Jan. 10.

10 Signs of a Strong-Willed Child and Why It's Actually a Good Thing
If you've ever caught yourself exasperatedly wondering, "Why won't they just do as they're told?!" multiple times in the same day - or even hour - chances are good that you have a strong-willed child on your hands. Plenty of parents can relate to dealing with a marathon argument or two, but there's a difference between enduring a sporadic, passionate outburst and the day-in, day-out struggles with a spirited child. And while you may catch yourself feeling envious of the quiet kid at the restaurant or the one who isn't a picky eater, your child's hard-headed tendencies can actually be a blessing in disguise.
Here's a checklist of 10 signs that you have a strong-willed kid and why it can actually be a good thing.
15 of the Worst Things Grandparents Do to Annoy Us
Let's get one thing straight: grandparents are the best. They really are. They love our children more than you could ever imagine, and to see how much our children love them? Well, there's really nothing that warms the heart more. So, why is it that our kids' grandparents (formerly known as our parents) drive us certifiably insane most of the time? We feel guilty admitting it, but Pop-Pop and Noni aren't always a picnic. Here are a few reasons why the grandparents we love are sometimes, occasionally the absolute worst.
You'll Never Guess How Long It Took This Guy to Scroll to the Bottom of an Excel Spreadsheet
Excel spreadsheets are a dizzying mystery of seemingly endless rows and columns. How long do they go on for? Will they ever end? Well, Hunter Hobbs got to the bottom of it - no, seriously.
A former Vine star, Hobbs set out to do an internet challenge no one else has done (or had the time on their hands to do) before. So he decided to see exactly how much scrolling it would take to reach the bottom of an Excel spreadsheet. The rules of the challenge were pretty easy: simply press the down arrow key, don't take breaks, and don't cheat by using the control key. While completing the challenge, Hobbs carried on with his usual daily activities - eating a burger, drinking a protein shake, and reading a book - while in pursuit of that final spreadsheet row.
It seems like Hobbs went into the challenge already aware that there's a finite number of rows in Excel sheets. As Motherboard pointed out, a simple Google search reveals the exact number on a Microsoft community forum. Despite that, Hobbs still saw it as a great opportunity for a good ol' index finger workout, all while garnering somewhat unexpected internet fame.
In the end, it took him a whopping nine and a half hours of button-pressing to reach it. Can you guess how many total rows there were? Watch the video above to find out! Spoiler alert: it was more than one million. Sheesh.
Why World Treasure Emma Watson Dropped Out of La La Land
If you've seen La La Land, chances are good that you don't even want to imagine anyone but Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in the lead roles - but they weren't originally supposed to play those parts. In August of 2015, Miles Teller told Esquire that director Damien Chazelle originally offered him the lead in La La Land while they were working on Whiplash. He almost passed on War Dogs because of his commitment, then he got some unexpected news. "I got a call from my agent, saying, 'Hey, I just got a call from Lionsgate. Damien told them that he no longer thinks you're creatively right for the project. He's moving on without you.'"
This went under the radar for a bit, until Uproxx asked Chazelle about it during the Toronto Film Festival last year. While Chazelle didn't want to comment on Teller's claim about how he was booted from the film, he did confirm that Teller was attached at one point. "The casting of this movie during the six years it took to get made went through lots of permutations," he said. "It's true there was a moment where Emma Watson and Miles Teller were doing it. And neither of those casting things wound up lasting or working out."
The Hollywood Reporter contends that Teller didn't end up doing the movie because of a salary dispute. Teller wanted more than the $4 million that was offered, and by the time he would have needed to start learning to play the piano for the role, they hadn't come to a compromise and he needed to shoot Allegiant.
As for Emma Watson, her decision had nothing to do with money; she chose to go forward with Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast movie instead. We can't say we blame her - it looks ravishing. Still, it's interesting to think of what might have been!
Pretty Little Liars Is About to Feature an Unexpected First: A Musical Number
When it comes to a wild show like Pretty Little Liars, so many things have come into play over the past six years. The main characters have gone to hell and back, there have been plenty of deaths, and, of course, there's one more supervillian yet to be revealed. With the final season looming on the horizon, it's hard not to ask: what hasn't happened on the show? At ABC's PLL panel during the Television Critics' Association Winter press tour, one journalist asked exactly that, and it turns out there's something very unexpected that we have yet to see: a musical number.
Here's what's even more unexpected: it seems we're going to watch the girls belt it out before the show's series finale. "I was able to get a musical number in the last 10 episodes," director Oliver Goldstick revealed. "A lot of you do know this because you follow [the main stars] now, but all of them have incredible different talents, and singing happens to be one of them. And I thought it was a shame that we didn't utilize that. And we found a way to [feature] it in one of the episodes in the last 10. So you'll have a musical number." We're already getting dizzy imagining the choreography.
Lush's Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar Makes Bathtime Even More Magical
There's no sign that the world's obsession over unicorns is slowing down anytime soon, and truthfully, we're glad. The Winter can be downright depressing (thanks a lot, freezing temperatures and dark skies!), and we'll gladly distract ourselves from it with whimsy and pastels. Bonus points if we can do so via our beauty routine! And luckily, for Valentine's Day 2017, Lush is enabling our mythical creature mania by resurrecting the cult favorite Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar ($8).
The dreamy bathtime accessory is akin to a crumbly soap, and when held under running water, dissolves into an abundance of bubbles. It's about the size of your hand, so you can easily break pieces off to stretch it out into several baths. However, if you're in a serious funk, just go rogue and dump the whole thing into your bathwater. It's loaded with lavender, ylang ylang, and neroli essential oils - which are all mood-lifting and soothing scents - so you can get your zen on as you soak.
The best part of the unicorn bathing experience, though, is the glitter! The horn is coated with a fine silver shimmer that leaves swirling sparkles in the water. Considering the bar leaves your water pink, it makes for a majestically magical beauty moment. Buy it now at LushUSA.com, then use it when you're in dire need of a pick-me-up (or just want to feel fantastic). Bonus points if you do so while sipping on a unicorn hot chocolate wearing unicorn lipstick.
Prince William Turns on the Charm For a Cause Close to Princess Diana's Heart
Prince William was his usual charming self when he visited a Centrepoint hostel in London on Tuesday. The royal met with several young people and took part in a fun Post-It note guessing game with one of the groups. The hostel is run by one of UK's leading homeless youth charities for 16- to 25-year-olds and holds a special place in William's heart; his mother, Princess Diana, had been a champion of the charity when she was alive. William was first introduced to the issue of homelessness by Diana, and he now serves as the patron of Centrepoint. His adorable outing comes just a couple days after William attended morning church service at St. Mary Magdalene with Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II.
The Potentially Dangerous Text Slang Kids Are Using That All Parents Should Know
Children and teens communicate digitally for a number of reasons. Whether they are texting or chatting online, these forms of staying in touch are fast and also offer a layer of privacy away from adults. Aside from parents not being able to hear the gossip, popular texting slang can be used for more mature topics without Mom and Dad catching on to what they're really talking about.
Even if you're a computer- and phone-savvy parent who can send emoji and knows the difference between "LOL" and "BRB," there are specific terms that you still need to be aware of in 2017 if your kids have access to forms of digital communication. According to Bark, which is a tool that can help parents protect their children online, there are two major things that are rapidly changing that parents need to be familiar with: technology and the way this generation communicates with each other.
"It's nearly impossible for a parent to keep up with all of their children's social media, text messaging, and email activity to help their children stay safe online. We cannot stress enough how important it is to keep an open and honest dialogue with your tweens and teens," Brian Bason, Bark's CEO, told POPSUGAR. "Children are dealing with issues we never had to face, like sexting, cyberbullying, and damaged digital reputations. They are also dealing with issues that have always existed, but which are dramatically increasing in frequency, like suicide and depression. If your tween is sending a friend 'KMS' (kill myself) or someone is sending your child 'Netflix and Chill' (sex), you should know about it."
Check out these 21 texting slang terms that parents should have on their radar.
18 Hijabi Brides Who Have Mastered the Art of Modesty, Elegance, and Everything in Between
If we could look at photos of hijabi brides all day, we would. The ladies have shown that the headpiece is not merely an accessory, but an integral part of their culture, especially on their wedding day. No two brides wear the hijab alike with their wedding gowns. Some wear it under a veil, while others simply wear the hijab.
What all the brides have in common, however, is their ability to pull off modesty with refined elegance at their nuptials. Scroll ahead to see how 18 brides wore their hijabs and wedding gowns on their big day. You won't be able to look away.
Keurig Will Soon Be Able to Brew Something Much Stronger Than Coffee
Making a cup coffee from a pod in under a minute is already pretty amazing, but soon, your Keurig will be able to make alcoholic drinks. You read that right: beer, cocktails, and spirits will be able to flow out of your Keurig like the nectar of the gods thanks to a partnership between Anheuser-Busch InBev and Green Mountain. The two companies "entered into a joint venture focused on the research and development of an in-home alcohol drink system," according to the press release. Basically, they want you to become your own personal bartender.
Before you get too excited, know that there's no release date yet (masterpieces take time), and you won't be able to add IPA pods to the Keurig you already have in your kitchen - you'll have to buy a new machine entirely. This new Keurig will "build on the Keurig KOLD system," the soda-making Keurig that was discontinued last Summer. If the machine lives up to the hype, it would be completely worth the price and could change the at-home entertaining game forever. Imagine being able to serve your friends a "homemade" cocktail with just the press of a button! For now, we'll stick to our Keurig coffee, but we'll be dreaming about the possibility of whipping up our own "draft" beer without the tap. Stay tuned for more details as the CEO of the project, Nathaniel Davis, releases them. "We can't wait to get started," he said.

How Shonda Rhimes Gives Speeches Like Meryl Streep on the Regular
In the wake of Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards, Hollywood is buzzing about Meryl Streep's jaw-dropping acceptance speech, and rightfully so. After Streep called out Donald Trump, who whined about it on Twitter, prompting George Clooney fired back. Robert De Niro also weighed in and offered his own high praise. Even at the Winter press tour for the Television Critics' Association, a mention of Streep popped up during ABC's Scandal panel. Rhimes was asked if she'd ever give such a speech. As actresses Kerry Washington and Bellamy Young pointed out, these kinds of passionate dialogues are actually a Shonda Rhimes trademark. We've seen them in many forms on Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, and How to Get Away With Murder.
- Kerry Washington, on Rhimes's personal flavor of speech: "Shonda has given a number of really powerful speeches about empowerment and the importance of one's voice and inclusivity, and many of them are in her book Year of Yes, which you should read if you haven't."
- Washington, on Rhimes's moving writing: "Not to speak for you, Shonda, but I would say, as an audience member, if somebody asked me, 'Does Shonda Rhimes give speeches like Meryl Streep?' Sure, she's a different writer, but she speaks her truth boldly and independently and in a way that inspires others."
- Bellamy Young, on Rhimes: "I'd also say that her work is also a testament to that. I feel so proud. One of the things I fear is that perhaps, in the years to come, many of us will lose our seat at the table in the real world. But I feel so proud to be a foot soldier in a Shondaland army where everyone has a seat at the table, and all that matters is who they are in their soul, not anything about who they live their life, who they love, or what they look like. And I can't think of a better way to spend your life, much less three minutes of a speech on stage, than giving people who have been and may become marginalized just a reality and a truth and a thriving place to see themselves represented."
L'Oréal Featured a Transgender Model For the First Time in Its New Campaign
Whenever a beauty company does something to expand beauty diversity, the world takes notice. L'Oréal's latest campaign for True Match Foundation, "Your Skin Your Story," debuted during the Golden Globe Awards featuring transgender model Hari Nef.
In the ad, women (and a man) from different backgrounds discuss their heritage and how there's a True Match shade for their unique skin. Hari utters the brand's slogan, "Because I'm worth it," toward the end of the clip. Each member of the True Match ad ensemble also has their own short True Match ad, and Hari shared her video on Twitter.
You might recognize Hari from the show Transparent, where she plays Gittel, Maura's (played by Jeffrey Tambor) great-aunt. She was also the first openly transgender model to be signed by IMG models in 2015 and even walked in Gucci's Fall Menswear show last year.
This is a huge step forward for the beauty industry, and it's important that other brands follow suit. Creating this ad proves that L'Oréal understands that there isn't just one type of person who wants to enjoy makeup and that it's important to make sure that people of all skin tones and gender identities can appreciate and use its products. Transgender models are rarely seen in beauty ads, and Hari's debut is a wonderful step in the right direction for inclusivity within the beauty industry.
Read on to see gorgeous photos of Hari and her reactions to starring in the ad.

We Need to Talk About Donald Trump's Anti-Vaccination Views
For those parents worried about the health ramifications surrounding the long-belabored debate over the safety of vaccinations, a recently resurfaced tweet from President-Elect Donald Trump is certainly not about to diminish concerns. Nor is his latest appointment.
Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines, doesn't feel good and changes - AUTISM. Many such cases!
- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 28, 2014
The tweet, posted in 2014, isn't the only time Trump has spoken out against vaccines or blamed them for causing autism. He has been vocal about the topic for years, and also openly discussed such sentiment during his campaign at the Republican debate in September 2015:
"You take this little beautiful baby and you pump ... " he said, referring to mandatory childhood vaccines. "We had so many instances, people that work for me, just the other day, two years old, a beautiful child, went to have the vaccine and came back and a week later got a tremendous fever, got very, very sick, now is autistic."
His latest move toward further prolonging discussion of the widely discredited theory came today when he asked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. – who shares similar beliefs that immunizations harm children and has led efforts to roll back child vaccination laws – to chair a new commission on vaccine safety and scientific integrity.
Although Trump officials have not confirmed the appointment, Kennedy told the press he accepted the position.
"President-elect Trump has some doubts about the current vaccine policies and he has questions about it," Kennedy said. "He says his opinion doesn't matter . . . but the science does matter, and we ought to be reading the science and we ought to be debating the science."
If that's the case, there's unequivocally no room for debate: vaccines do not cause autism. The only study ever linking vaccines to autism, which was published in 1998 by Andrew Wakefield (whose medical license was since revoked), has been revealed as not only baseless, but outright fraudulent.
Every single study following it – because it became such a controversial topic that dozens of scientists from the CDC to the New England Journal of Medicine began research to address the issue – is consistent: There is no link. Vaccines and autism are unrelated. One does not cause the other.
So, please, read that science. And then think if it's really worth spending more time and money debating said science, when there are hundreds more pressing, more debilitating public health crises that would actually benefit from this type of attention. Please – on behalf of parents who've watched their newborns contract measles, mumps, and other actual life-threatening illnesses – read that science instead of continuing this line of fruitless debate that is actually creating a public health crisis all its own.
The Twins From The Bachelor Are Getting Their Own Spinoff, and We Have Feelings
The Bachelor's Las Vegas-dwelling "professional twins" Haley and Emily Ferguson have achieved the ultimate goal in the world of reality TV: they got a spinoff. Premiering on Freeform on March 20, The Twins: Happily Ever After is following in the footsteps of Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell's similarly titled spinoff. As a brief history lesson, they first appeared on Ben's season, he said goodbye to Haley fairly early on, and pursued a relationship with Haley. When that didn't work out, the twins packed their bags and went to Bachelor in Paradise. By week five, they weren't finding love and chose to leave. While the new show won't focus on their quest to find romance, it will show them living at home (with their mom) in Vegas and striving for success in the entertainment industry.
As a longtime Bachelor fan, I have mixed feelings about this. The flagship show is ridiculous enough, then came televised weddings, Bachelor Pad, Bachelor in Paradise, and After Paradise. While I choose not to watch Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After, I get why it exists. They're in a relationship and it's actually interesting to see how this romances play out after the whirlwind of the show. But giving contestants their own spinoff - twins or not - feels like a stretch. I realize my argument is futile, and that spinoffs have produced some of the best TV out there (hell, Frasier was a spinoff), but do we need this on already crowded reality TV landscape?
Let's pretend that we do have room in our lives for another Bachelor spinoff. The best part of these shows is the way the contestants interact with each other. They form relationships, develop enemies, and go out on dates that supply ever-changing dynamics. Sure, Freeform will get some familiar faces to show up on The Twins, but it won't be the same. A quick appearance from Chad does not a good series make, especially when the show gimmick of the show is as simple as: twins! If this were the case, they would have given Nick a spinoff instead of putting him at the helm of The Bachelor.
I do hope the show is successful and that Emily and Haley find happiness - I would would just be more prone to watch a spinoff if it had several Bachelor contestants living in a house Real World-style, working and dating. Are you listening, ABC? Please give us that.
Amal Clooney Sticks by Hubby George at a London Screening
George and Amal Clooney made a supercute pair when they attended the Netflix screening of The White Helmets hosted by The Clooney Foundation for Justice in London on Monday night. Every moment they shared while there was equally sweet, like when the duo stopped to pose for photographers and Amal placed her hand over George's chest, or when Amal stood by George's side and gazed lovingly at him. During the event, George also weighed in on Donald Trump's recent comments about his Fantastic Mr. Fox costar Meryl Streep's Golden Globes speech. In a series of tweets, the president-elect called her "one of the most over-rated actresses," to which George responded, "Aren't you supposed to be running the country?" White Helmets is a documentary about first responders in Syria, and George is in early development on a movie version of the show.
Michelle Obama's 6 Most Important Fashion Statements and Why They Matter
Michelle Obama came into the White House with great expectations. On the eve of the 2009 inauguration, which also happened to be Martin Luther King Day, The New York Times said Obama had "power to influence the nation’s sense of identity, its fashion trends, its charitable causes and its perceptions of black women and their families.” She rose to the occasion.
Beyond being the country's first black first lady, Michelle Obama brought other unique and powerful qualities to the symbolic role. She projected confidence, a modern sensibility, and approachability. Undoubtedly knowing the press would report on her every outfit, Michelle used her fashion choices to express her values.
"Her legacy is all about style and substance," said Kate Betts, author of 2011's Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style. "She understood right away that she could use style to transmit a message of confidence and strength to young women who were watching her, young women who understood that Michelle Obama had worked hard and used her brain to get to a place very few people thought she could get. Her style is a way of standing out, letting people know what she stands for."
She projected confidence, a modern sensibility, and approachability.Using her fashion to communicate sometimes meant choosing an unknown designer over a safer mainstream choice for major events. She traded her heels for Converse sneakers so she could garden or jog across the White House's South Lawn during a Let's Move! event. She wore off-the-rack designs from places like J.Crew and H&M for press appearances, which made her more accessible to everyday Americans. "She wanted young women to see that being first lady was attainable, something you could work for and achieve," Betts explained. "It was no longer this mythical, inaccessible post. And she also wanted to use her position to speak about the things that matter most to her, like health, education, healthy eating, and supporting young girls."
One of Obama's favorite designers, Naeem Khan, agreed that her approach to fashion made her relatable: "She is so normal when it comes to wearing what she wears. She can go from wearing J.Crew to dressed in my things, which are super glamorous." Khan pointed out that as first lady, she didn't go for a name itself, but instead for what she liked. "It's important how she has actually cultivated and put the designers in front."
Nothing Michelle Obama does is an accident, she told us during an interview at the White House in October. Speaking about her television appearances, the first lady said, "We always know why we do Ellen and the message points we're trying to get out. The fun part is just the hook, but if you really listen to all the appearances, if you follow closely, there's an underlying message and it's powerful how it actually resonates, even through the jokes."
We can assume that this thoughtful approach applies to the first lady's fashion choices, too - she's not the type to choose a dress simply because she thinks it's pretty. With each designer, brand, or style she chose, Obama sent a message, which makes it hard to choose her most important looks. But we've tried, selecting six that represent how she made her mark on the fashion world and American culture. Now let's look back at the most powerful messages Michelle Obama sent through her style these past eight years.
Jason Wu at the Inaugural Ball, January 2009The Moment: The Obamas' first Inaugural Ball. After appearing on stage, the couple danced to a rendition of Etta James's "At Last" performed by Beyoncé Knowles.
The Outfit: A one-shouldered white silk chiffon gown embellished with organza flowers and Swarovski crystals.
The Designer: Jason Wu, then 26 years old and based in NYC. Relatively unknown at the time, he had no idea the new first lady had chosen his design until he saw it on television.
The Impact: Hope was the message of the 2008 Obama campaign, and this white gown - reminiscent of a wedding dress - echoed it perfectly. Young and proud, the Obamas looked like a newly married couple ready to stick it out for better and for worse in the White House. It made them relatable and also acted as a symbol for America's desire for a fresh start.
The Obamas looked like a newly married couple ready to stick it out for better and for worse in the White House.Just like American voters took a risk on relative newcomer Barack Obama, Michelle Obama chose to elevate Jason Wu with her inaugural gown, straying from first lady standbys like Oscar de la Renta (worn by both Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush at inaugural balls). Instead, Obama gave new faces a chance throughout her time as first lady. "Sophie Theallet, Thakoon Panichgul, Isabel Toledo, Jason Wu - none of these designers were well-known globally," Betts explained. "She really reached out to a diverse group of talent and gave them an incredible global platform. No other first lady in my memory has done so much to support young designers."
Naeem Khan at the First State Dinner, November 2009The Moment: The Obamas' first state dinner, thrown for India's prime minister. The evening offered the first lady a chance to define her formal style.
The Outfit: A gold strapless dress with a print inspired by Andy Warhol.
The Designer: Naeem Khan, 50 years old at the time and an Indian immigrant to America. Khan moved from India to NYC when he was 20 and worked for Halston. While he had enjoyed success in the fashion industry, the state dinner made him a household name. "I was actually super shocked," he recalled. "It was just before Thanksgiving. The whole thing went viral. It went so global, it was crazy."
The Impact: This dress signaled Michelle Obama's desire to be a modern first lady. It had a glittering Andy Warhol-inspired print. It showed off her arms and hugged her figure. She wasn't going to hide behind taffeta.
Her choice of designer was also significant. "Me being an Indian-American designer, it was politically important," Khan noted. "There is a great interaction between the first lady and the designer to send the message." Khan explained that he used the opportunity to blend the best of India and America. "The shape of the dress was super simple. It was totally American." But for the embroidery, he employed a traditional Indian technique. "When I was a little boy, I would go up to my grandfather's factories and they used to make sequins of 24-karat gold and sterling silver by hand. So I embroidered the poppies with those techniques that were going around India for hundreds of years."
Converse at Let's Move! Event, May 2010The Moment: Shortly after launching her Let's Move! campaign in January 2010, the first lady kicked off the South Lawn series by exercising with local school children at the White House to promote physical activity.
The Outfit: A sleeveless printed top, loose black pants, and Converse sneakers.
The Designer: Converse sneakers with a patent leather flair.
The Impact: By trading the traditional pumps for a pair of Converse, Obama used her fashion choices to get her message across. For one, Converse is an American brand, as a subsidiary of Nike.
Betts recalled a similar moment when the first lady actually kicked off her shoes during a healthy-living event in 2009. "To see the first lady running barefoot across the South Lawn, engaging in this very energetic way, was wonderful," she recalled. "It wasn't about what she was wearing so much as it was about her attitude and her energy and her charisma. That to me is style."
"It wasn't about what she was wearing so much as it was about her attitude and her energy and her charisma."It's those moments that Michelle believes will define her legacy. When we asked, "What will be the lasting image of your time as first lady?” she replied, "It will probably be me doing push-ups, sit-ups. It will be me in some physical form, dancing, jumping, laughing, surrounded by kids." Obama changed the game by flooding popular culture with images of a first lady we had never seen before.
Thom Browne Coat With a J.Crew Belt at Inauguration Day, January 2013The Moment: President Obama's swearing in for his second presidential term.
The Outfit: A custom fit-and-flare coat from Thom Browne belted with a sparkly find from J.Crew.
The Designer: Thom Browne, 47 at the time and an American menswear-turned-womenswear designer based in New York. Also, J.Crew, the all-American retail store.
The Impact: By pairing a bespoke designer coat with an accessory most Americans could get at their local mall, Michelle Obama signaled that she didn't fit into a simple box. She was letting her sense of style, not dedication to high-end fashion labels, drive her fashion choices.
If you can find something in common with the first lady, you might be more willing to listen to what she has to say.Of course, there was also a political advantage to choosing an accessible brand. As Betts points out in her book, Obama's style changed significantly during the 2008 presidential campaign. She retired the power suits from her time as a healthcare executive and lawyer and instead began to favor everyday "mom" labels. While this was surely a calculated move, it also made her more relatable to modern American young women. She chose brands like J.Crew and H&M that many of us have in our closets. If you can find something in common with the first lady, you might be more willing to listen to what she has to say.
Tracy Reese at the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, August 2013The Moment: A ceremony to commemorate 50 years since Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington and “I Have a Dream” speech.
The Outfit: A flared, sleeveless black dress with large scarlet flowers with beaded centers.
The Designer: Tracy Reese, 49 at the time and a successful American designer based in New York. Known for her use of colors and graphics, Reese is one of the many black designers worn by Michelle Obama.
The Impact: Michelle Obama chose a black designer for the important civil rights anniversary. The print was bold and elegant, just like Obama, and allowed her to stand out against the backdrop of the Lincoln Memorial. The juxtaposition of the gray statue of the president who emancipated American slaves with the vibrancy of the first lady’s dress gave the impression of bringing history to life.
Narciso Rodriguez at State of the Union, January 2016The Moment: President Obama's final State of the Union address to Congress.
The Outfit: A sleeveless wool crepe marigold dress.
The Designer: Narciso Rodriguez, then 54, a Cuban-American designer who famously designed the dress Carolyn Bessette wore to marry John F. Kennedy Jr.
The Impact: Standing out in a sea of dark suits, Obama shined in marigold. At the lectern, her husband said he had a sunny outlook for America, and the first lady backed that message of hope with her fashion. She also wore Narciso Rodriguez at Barack Obama's election night victory event in 2008 and his first address to a joint session of Congress in 2009. The designer's Cuban roots helped highlight the president's work reestablishing diplomatic relationships with the country, potentially an important moment in his legacy.
The dress also showed off Obama's much talked-about feature: her arms. In 2009, when the first lady wore a sleeveless dress to the same occasion, the choice got much attention. The New York Times wrote: "It is February and Washington is freezing, but in appearance after appearance, the first lady displays her long, muscular arms. She is sleeveless on the cover of the new Vogue, she was sleeveless when she discussed menus on Sunday in the White House kitchen, and last night she was sleeveless again, in the House chamber for her husband’s first address to Congress. (All of the other women in the room seemed to be wearing long sleeves; a few even wore turtlenecks)." Fast-forward to 2016: Michelle hadn't given into convention, and it was now no big scandal to see some arm skin in Congress.
Michelle Obama's Lasting LegacyMichelle Obama's style choices will go down as an important part of her legacy. She used clothes to express confidence. "She gave women permission to dress for themselves, to be feminine and powerful at once," Betts acknowledged. As one of the most photographed women in the world, she also demonstrated the power of style to draw attention to issues important to her. As Betts concluded: "She showed us that style is about much more than what we wear - it's about how we present ourselves, what we say, what we stand for."
"She gave women permission to dress for themselves, to be feminine and powerful at once."Naeem Khan thinks she stands up to other political fashion icons. "Michelle Obama is up there. She is more than Jackie Kennedy." He goes on: "I feel that Mrs. Obama had so many more resources than Jackie did. Jackie was wearing two designers, three designers. Mrs. Obama has access to the internet and more. The global power that she has and the impressions she's made with fashion are far more impactful."
The Scary Reason Hostess Recalled These Twinkies
If you treated yourself to a box of White Peppermint Twinkies over the holidays, it's time to return them ASAP. Hostess is voluntarily recalling the treats after learning that Blommer Chocolate Company (who made the coating on the Twinkies) has recalled milk powder ingredients included in the coating due to a concern about a possible Salmonella risk.
The recall only applies to the "White Peppermint Hostess Twinkies" (UPC 888109111571) and were sold in packs of nine. Although no reports of illness have been reported and none of the Twinkies have tested positive for salmonella, it's always better to be on the safe side.
Salmonella is a serious illness that can sometimes lead to fatal infections in children and the elderly. According to the FDA healthy people can experience "fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain."
Check your cupboard and make sure to return the products to where you purchased them for a full refund.
You'll Soon Be Able to Watch Alexis Bledel on This Brand-New Hulu Series
Alexis Bledel is moving on from Rory Gilmore (not permanently, we hope!) to take on a completely different role in Hulu's adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 35-year-old actress will play Ofglen, a handmaid, in the 10-part drama set in a fictional place called Gilead, where, under a totalitarian government, fertile women are sent to rich families to help them procreate.
If you're wondering why you're just now hearing about this series, Hulu actually had to wait until Alexis's Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life contract expired with Netflix to make the announcement. The interesting storyline will make its debut on the popular streaming service on April 26, and considering Alexis is slated to appear in most of the episodes alongside her fellow Mad Men costar Elisabeth Moss, we can't wait to see even more talented acting.
Elisabeth teased the exciting performance to come, telling THR: "[Alexis] has this incredible fragility and vulnerability to her, but there is another side - a strength and a toughness to her, that some people maybe haven't seen . . . Obviously it doesn't hurt that she's a friend of mine." Wow! Is it April 26 yet?
Why This Iconic David Bowie Interview Is Still Remarkably Relevant
David Bowie passed away on Jan. 10, 2016, but the impact of his life and career continues to reverberate through the music community, as well as with his dedicated fans. Bowie was not just a musician - he was a visionary, one who lived life on his own terms and inspired others to do the same. He was also an unabashed supporter and champion of diversity in the media, and one of his most outspoken moments has continued to go viral thanks to its strong moral message.
"Should it not be a challenge to try and make the media far more integrated, especially, of anything, in musical terms?"In an iconic 1983 interview with MTV veejay Mark Goodman, Bowie took the network to task for the lack of videos they played from black artists. "Why is that?" Bowie calmly asked the anchor, who was visibly flustered while trying to explain that MTV was committed to playing videos that "not just New York and Los Angeles can appreciate," but also suburban Midwest communities "who would be scared to death by Prince. . . or a string of other black faces." Bowie's rebuttal, touching on young people of color being "part of America as well," is remarkably relevant today: "It does seem to be rampant through American media. Should it not be a challenge to try and make the media far more integrated, especially, of anything, in musical terms?"
We still see the same pleas to the entertainment industry over 30 years later, whether it's demanding more representation from people of color on TV and in movies or questioning the absence of minorities being nominated for major industry awards. It seems so easy for people to ignore these observations when they come from celebrities (a certain esteemed actress recently calling out a certain thin-skinned "politician" comes to mind). We rush to social media to demand that they "stick to their jobs" as entertainers - as if being a public figure means you can't have opinions - or dismiss their comments as trivial or petty because they don't exactly apply to us. What David Bowie's 1983 proves is that there will always, thankfully, be celebrities who will use their spotlight and privilege to call out inequality in their chosen industry. And yes, also thankfully, MTV does now play more music videos by people of color - at least between episodes of Teen Mom and Jersey Shore reruns, that is.

Dustin Lance Black's Impactful Words About the History of the Gay Rights Movement
Dustin Lance Black is perhaps best known for his work on the stunning and transformative 2008 film, Milk. In addition to writing and executive producing, Black also earned an Academy Award for his original screenplay. When it comes to telling LGBT stories like Harvey Milk's, though, Black's just getting started. Enter When We Rise, a new ABC project aiming to tell the history of the gay rights movement, which began with the Stonewall Riots in 1969. On Tuesday, ABC held a panel for the show as part of the Television Critics' Association Winter press tour, and Black was in attendance to stress how vital it is to tell this incredible story. And yes, he managed to allude more than once to today's political climate in the process. Read his poignant quotes below.
- On early reactions to the show: "Loud and clear, I want to say this show is under attack from the alt-right. But this show is not a war. We are not against anyone. This shows how we are related. It's a conversation about what its like to be a minority in this word and how important it is for us to work together for equality."
- On the show's nationwide appeal: "I think there are a lot of people who voted for Donald Trump who will love this show . . . I don't see this as a show that only half of the country will like. I didn't write the show for half of a country . . . if Donald Trump actually watches the show, he might like the show."
- On the show's perfect timing: "I would give anything in the world for it to be less topical right now . . . I never could have imagined that it would land in this moment. I'm not entirely surprised, because as a student of history, we know that history is not a straight line. History is a pendulum."
- On including diverse figures who are "alive and thriving": "It was important to me in deciding who to depict that many, if not most [LGBT activists] are still alive . . . I do hope that a new generation looks to these people for more inspiration. We need them more than ever . . . 'We' is the most important word in that title."
- On being a minority: "Every single person in this world is a minority. It just depends how you slice the pie."

Your Favorite Gossip Girl Stars Fell Victim to These Early-2000s Trends Too
Before your favorite Gossip Girl stars became onscreen style icons, they wore some questionable outfits. A look back at what Blake Lively and Leighton Meester wore in the early 2000s (tube tops and wide belts) confirms that they fell victims to cringe-worthy trends of that time. We don't completely blame them, however, because we too had a few of those pieces in our closets.
Though both stars have gone through dramatic style transformations since then, we'll have fun reminiscing about their old outfits. We do hope some of the trends ahead never make a comeback in 2017.
