The 1 Thing You Need to Know to Keep Your Hair Healthy

Have you ever been confused by an article or ad stating a product is meant for "Latina hair"? We have, too! Because, really, what does that mean? Just like we're constantly reminding people that not all Latinas have olive skin tone, we find ourselves explaining not all Latinas have wavy or curly hair, either - take it from me, whose very straight hair refuses to hold a wave for more than five minutes without the help of many a spray and mousse.

But, even if you know this fact to be true, you might still find yourself a little confused about what hair type you actually have. We know it's complicated - there's type 1, type 2A, type 2B, what? We're lost already, so we talked to Dove hairstylist Cynthia Alvarez, and using her expertise and a few celebrities as examples, we broke down everything you need to know to figure out what category your strands belong to. La La Land: Is That Really Ryan Gosling Playing the Piano?!

La La Land is the most enchanting movie of 2016, but besides the singing and dancing, one particular element will dazzle you: Ryan Gosling's piano skills. He plays a struggling jazz purist in the film, and there are some musical scenes that may cause you to wonder if it's really Gosling playing, or a body double. Shocking as it may be, it's definitely Gosling playing the whole time!

"In fact, there's not a single close-up shot of [the character] Sebastian's hands in the entire movie that's a piano double," director Damian Chazelle said, at a press event for the movie. "It's all Ryan." Even John Legend, who has a smaller part in the film, was impressed: "I was jealous, man," he said. "Watching him play, I was like, 'Wow, this guy is really good and he just learned this in the last few months.' It's pretty amazing."

How is one person this talented?

How Did La La Land Pull Off That Insane, Fantastical Opening Number?

As one of the most romantic and transformative films of 2016, La La Land is filled to the brim with whimsy and magic. Even without seeing the film, the gorgeous musical soundtrack and fanciful trailers are enough to give you a sense of what you're in for. Perhaps the most thrilling aspect of La La Land, in this respect, is that it wastes no time plunging audiences into its rose-tinted musical wonderland. We're talking about the opening sequence: during a particularly grueling freeway traffic jam on a hot Summer day (a dead-on representation of LA if I've ever seen one), a chorus of drivers emerges for an epic song-and-dance number right on the rooftops of their grid-locked cars.

There was always the chance that a feat of this magnitude could have been pulled off with elaborate sets and a soundstage, but that's not the case here. In a new chat with Entertainment Weekly, director Damien Chazelle explains how they pulled off the musical number . . . right on the very highways of the city itself. We've pulled the main highlights to break own how he made it happen.

  • Why Chazelle wanted to kick off with this sequence: "A lot of things were smashing together at the outset. First, I always wanted to do a shot where you go from car to car with each radio playing a radically different kind of music. I wanted it to feel like a city bustling with music . . . but this is Los Angeles. The cacophony of sounds is coming out of cars. And I loved the idea of presenting the soundscape of the city that way. And then the second idea was using that soundscape to build into an opening musical number and having a fantastical musical number arise out of a bunch of realistic city sounds."
  • How he came up with the idea: "The scene came from me living in LA and being in traffic all the time, thinking about either wanting to shoot myself or dance . . . now that I live in LA and have fallen deeply in love with the city, to start La La Land with the thing that literally freaked me out the most about LA as a kid . . . that kind of endless grind of traffic, where most of what you see around you is concrete and you're surrounded by smog and exhaust fumes and burning sunlight."
  • The main logistics: "We shut down an E-Z pass over-ramp. We shut it down for a Saturday and a Sunday in August of 2015 for the actual filming, but a week before that we got permission to shut it down for part of one Saturday so that we could do a dress rehearsal. Ironically, we got the dance and the camera moves to such a precise layout in prep during the parking lot rehearsals, that I and my key collaborators almost got a little overconfident. In retrospect, that [rehearsal] day saved us. I'd been using my iPhone camera during rehearsals but obviously a large crane is a lot more complicated than an iPhone. There were little things we hadn't even thought about. The interstate ramp is slanted, it's never flat. You're dealing with the heat, the sun burning down on the car tops. And the crane, there's heavy winds that high up."
  • The big day: "[The dress rehearsal] allowed us to go in the next weekend and get it all done in two days. I wouldn't say it was easy - it was a really hot August weekend in LA - but we got what we wanted. And without those months of prep and dress rehearsal, I don't think we would have been able to."

A Quick Reminder of the Movies Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone Have Costarred In

Their new film, La La Land, earned rave reviews, and is now slaying the award season circuit, winning all seven of the Golden Globes it was up for. They clearly love working together, because they keep doing it. It's been six years since they initially costarred in a film, so in case you've forgotten, here are the movies they've appeared in together.

What This Mail Carrier Did For an Old Dog Will Warm Your Heart

Mail carrier Jeff Kramer is not one of those stereotypical mailmen who is afraid of dogs. In fact, he loves them. One of the dogs on his mail route, Tashi, is a good pal of Kramer's and frequently comes out to meet him for pets. Tashi, however, is getting on in age and struggles to make it up and down his house's steps. Kramer couldn't bear the thought of Tashi not being able to come meet him, though, so he gave the family a ramp that he had at his own house for a senior dog he once had. Watch the video to see this sweet relationship between a dog and his mail carrier - it will surely put a smile on your face.

30 Times Bo and Sunny Obama Were the Coolest Members of Their Family

While campaigning to be president, Barack Obama made a serious, binding agreement with his young daughters, Sasha and Malia: if he won the election, he'd buy them a dog. Luckily for them (and us), it happened. During his victory speech in 2008, he conceded that they'd "earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the White House," and they were soon gifted with a Portuguese Water Dog by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, who owns several dogs of the same breed himself. They named him Bo and ended up adopting his nearly identical sister Sunny in 2013.

The playful dogs have popped up in plenty of photos with Barack, Michelle, Sasha, and Malia over the years, whether tugging their owners across the lawn during walks or casually leading the president through a Petco. In honor of their last few days in the White House, we've rounded up the family's most touching moments with their beloved pets.

Goldie Hawn's Hollywood Evolution Proves Her Life Has Always Been, Well, Golden

We would call Goldie Hawn one of the most captivating people in Hollywood, but we're pretty sure she's one of the most captivating people on earth in general. We're looking back at Goldie's rise to fame, from her early days as a young ballet dancer, '60s go-go icon, and wide-eyed Hollywood ingénue right on up to her current status as a certified national treasure. Can you see the resemblance to Kate Hudson?

Sia's Video For "Move Your Body" Will Either Make You Dance or Give You Nightmares

Missing the cheap thrill of Sia's dance-inspired videos? Then you're in luck. On Thursday, the singer released the lyric video for her latest hit, "Move Your Body," and it's guaranteed to make you do just that. Not only is the whole thing '80s-themed (think tacky shoulder pads and teased hair), but it also features a new dance prodigy, 8-year-old Lilliana Ketchman, a Dance Moms star just like Maddie Ziegler. As the little girl is forced to take glamour shots with her parents, she eventually runs off set to transform into a Sia mini me with her signature black-and-blond wig. It's very interesting, to say the least, but we wouldn't have it any other way.

See Which Stars Are on Board For the Dirty Dancing Remake

Matt Damon's Smile Has Been Making Us Swoon For Over 28 Years

Matt Damon has been in the spotlight for more than 28 years now, but we still can't get over how gorgeous he is. The 46-year-old actor first stole hearts with his roles in movies like The Talented Mr. Ripley, Good Will Hunting and Saving Private Ryan, but it was his role as Jason Bourne in the Bourne franchise that really made our crush go over the top. Aside from being one of the highest-grossing actors of all time, Matt is also a husband and father; he's been married to his wife, Luciana Barroso, since 2005, and together they have four children: Isabella, Gia, Stella, and Alexia, Luciana's daughter from a previous marriage. Much like his family, we will also never get tired of seeing that sweet, sweet smile.

Gigi Hadid Hooked Up Zayn Malik's New Design Gig, but He's Already a Pro on His Own

Donatella Versace decided Zayn Malik was the perfect rockstar to front her label, Versus, when she saw how he treated Gigi. "The way he treats Gigi, like a gentleman: you don't see this anymore . . . I just saw them together. I went for dinner and I was impressed how mature he was," the designer explained to Vogue in an exclusive interview about the new partnership.

Not only will Zayn be releasing his first collection in May (a portion of the proceeds will go to charity), but he'll also star in campaigns for the fashion house, just like his girlfriend has. Donatella, who consistently embraces the edgy and bold when it comes to both her labels, hinted at future collaborations with musicians. But for now, Zayn is her man.

The former One Direction member counts Prince in his iconic red suit as one of the most memorable Versace moments, but read on to see a few of Zayn's, all of which make him the right dude to take on such an honorable role.

8 Signs of a Sensitive Kid and Why It's Actually a Good Thing

Many parents can relate to tears and hurt feelings during childhood but for those with a sensitive child, they are likely presented with these strong feelings much more often. Parents of sensitive children observe their little ones worrying more deeply about what others around them think and being more emotionally reactive. However, these kiddos also tend to make amazing friends because they are so intuitive and are able to easily empathize with others.

The Comments on This Pregnant Model's Photo Will Make Your Blood Boil

When one model and mama posed in a bikini with her baby bump on Instagram, she was trolled with horrifying comments, criticizing the color of her bump and causing our jaws to drop. Porsche Thomas, who has since given birth to adorable twin boys, was relaxing and getting some sun when she unfortunately had to deal with ridiculous people asking why her pregnant belly was "so dark."

Not only were we stunned by how beautiful she looked, but also by the appalling comments on the photo above. However, Porscha had a response for her haters. A few days later, Porsche posted another photo showing off her baby bump, sipping tea, and shutting down those commenters in the best way possible.

"While some of y'all been in my comments criticizing the blackness that is my belly and me during what shoulda been your holiday cheer, I been over here enjoying life, growing tiny humans, performing miracles and hopefully getting even blacker #justsaying #melaninpoppin #twins #babybump #noairbrushneeded #love and be #loved," she wrote.

Porsche told BET that she "was baffled" by the comments on her photo. "We're so used to seeing white baby bumps," she said. "We don't really get to see black baby bumps and when we do, people have a negative reaction to it for some reason, like it's vulgar. So I think that when I posted that and the response happened, I wasn't totally surprised because I have seen that response, but not in this magnitude."

We thought by now people would know better than to criticize a pregnant mama, but internet trolls never cease to amaze us. It's great that Porsche would never let the haters bring her down, but comments like these are never acceptable.

Keep reading to see some of Porsche's stunning maternity photos.

I'm Worried I Like Babies More Than Kids

The following post was originally featured on Carriage Before Marriage and written by Amy Wruble, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Moms.

My husband and I have a long-standing disagreement: I'm madly in love with babies. He wishes our kids could be born at 2-years-old.

Maybe it's a woman thing, but how can anyone not be obsessed with babies? Sniffing their fuzzy duckling heads while they snuggle in for a nap on my chest gets me higher than any drug. Watching them breathe, staring into their wide, alien eyes, and feeling the clutch of tiny fingers around mine is the closest thing I've had to a religious experience.

But to my husband, babies, while cute, are fairly useless. They can't tell jokes. They can't ride a bike or go bowling. All they know how to do is poop and keep you up all night. So when our kids were little babies, he literally counted down the days until they were toddlers. "Stop wishing it away!" I would yell at him, as if his complaints had the power to speed up their fleeting infancy. We have never seen eye to eye on this.

When our first kid got old enough to skip down the street singing made-up songs, my husband started truly loving fatherhood. He embraced all the daddy stuff you can't do with a baby, like hoisting our daughter on his shoulders, taking her to the diner for hot cocoa and chocolate chip pancakes, and explaining Star Wars. This was the job he signed up for. I am glad for him. For her. For both of them. And a little bit sad for me. For not only am I obsessed with babies, but I feel much more competent taking care of them. Babies' problems are easily solved with a boob, a cracker, a snuggle, or a nap. When they get frustrated, distracting them is a simple as, "Look, the garbage truck!" Mothering babies may be tiring, but it's satisfying in its straightforwardness.

Babies never say "You're the worst mom in the world," just because you wouldn't let them have a popsicle before dinner. Babies don't kick the back of your seat while you're driving when they don't like the song on the radio. Babies don't ask you all about dead bodies and sexual intercourse and Jesus before you've had breakfast. I can change a blowout diaper in an airplane bathroom with no changing table without breaking a sweat, but I still don't know how to respond when my kindergartener says she hates me…

Remain Calm - New Information About American Horror Story Season 7 Has Been Revealed

It's been months since American Horror Story was renewed for a seventh season, and tiny hints and details have already begun to trickle in. Creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy appeared at the Television Critics Association Winter press tour in January and gave up some small, but important details — including the addition two returning cast members! Here's what we can expect for the next installment of American Horror Story.

1. The First Hints

In an October 2016 cover story with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Murphy slyly dropped some information on season seven. The idea apparently only just came to him. "It comes to me as it always comes to me," he said. "I sit up in bed and I say 'That's it!' I have been mulling a couple of ideas, and I wasn't loving it. Then I was thinking of this other thing, and I literally sat up in bed and said 'That's it!' Whenever it happens it's such a relief because it's so much pressure."

So what, exactly, is the idea? Much like season six's "show-within-a-show" model, the next installment is "also a narratively strange idea," according to Murphy. He also said, "I've already started to call people saying, 'Put this on your calendar.' It's a good one." That begs the question: who can we expect to join the cast?

2. The Latest Quotes

In January, Murphy told reporters that he's not sure if they'll keep the theme a secret again. "I think maybe we'll release some of it earlier than we did," he said. "But I just started writing it, I haven't even cast it yet — except for Sarah and Evan. It's a modern-day story. That's all I can say."

Contrary to Murphy's comments, FX CEO John Landgraf told the TCA audience that it will be "shrouded in super secrecy." This was actually earlier in the day, before Murphy took the stage. "Ryan has yet another really innovative idea for how to do something fresh and different with the franchise that audiences haven't seen before, and there's a marketing promotional hook around that." Hmmm.

3. The Cast

Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters, who have been in every season, will star. Lily Rabe has also appeared every year, but there's no word on her yet. There are, of course, recent recurring players like Kathy Bates, Finn Wittrock, and Angela Bassett, who will hopefully turn up as well.

4. The Clues

OK, this is probably going to be the murkiest part of season seven, and we likely won't get any information for a long time. But, we can be proactive about figuring it out! Any die-hard AHS fan knows Murphy loves to weave tiny clues into the current season, and if you look at Roanoake, there's plenty of good fodder for what Murphy could be up to next. Roanoke left us with a mysteriously loose end about Lee's first daughter, Emily. We also have a theory that the next season could be about a shipwreck.

5. The Premiere Date

Obviously, we know AHS won't be back until Fall of 2017. The first five seasons of the show had October premieres; Roanoke was the first season to be moved up to September! So a safe assumption is October. And hey, if it comes early again, all the better for us.

See the Trailer For Raw, the Cannibal Horror Film People Can't Watch Without Passing Out

If you think Raw is just another horror flick, think again. It's a coming-of-age story hidden within disturbing cannibalistic violence, which was reportedly so visceral it made multiple people pass out at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September. The graphic French film is directed by Julia Ducournau and follows the smart-but-socially-awkward Justine (Garance Marillier), who has just enrolled in veterinary school. Squeezed in between all the sex, partying, and hazing is a whole lot of carnage, which will no doubt make it one of 2017's most buzzed-about movies.

Confirmed: Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson Will Star in American Horror Story Season 7

Information about season seven of American Horror Story is beginning to roll in! While last season was (unfairly) shrouded in mystery until the premiere, we actually do have a few morsels about season seven, including a few hints from Ryan Murphy. The executive producer appeared at the Television Critics Association Winter press tour on Jan. 12, and revealed something major about the upcoming season: the cast. Well, two members of it, anyway. Still, I'll take it! We'll update you with more casting news as it's revealed, but for now take a look at the two returning alums.

Ice T Has Coco by His Side at a Celebration For Law & Order: SVU's 400th Episode

Ice T and Coco hit the red carpet for a special celebration in NYC on Wednesday night. The couple, who recently rang in their 16th wedding anniversary, met up with Ice's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit costars for a TV Guide-hosted celebration of their 400th-episode milestone at the Gansevoort Park Avenue. Coco flaunted her famous figure in a low-cut printed dress, while Ice kept things cool in all black. He posed for fun photos with his wife, as well as castmates Peter Scanavino, Kelli Giddish, and Mariska Hargitay, who was joined by her husband, Younger star Peter Hermann.

Ice and Mariska - who is the longest-running member of the cast - spoke about the impact of the iconic show to reporters. "The topics we deal with are real; we're dealing with survivors," Ice said, adding, "This is therapy for a lot of people. They don't just watch the show for entertainment, this is helpful [for them], and it's very rare that you're going to come up with content that's going to stick with people." Mariska chimed in about the timeliness and relevance of the procedural drama, which first premiered in 1999: "Telling these stories bravely and carefully and accurately is more important than ever."

5 Reasons Working Out at Night Will Change Your Life

I don't like to work out in the morning. I'm not a morning person. The aroma of coffee isn't something that wakes me with a smile. The light shining through the blinds at the crack of dawn is something I avoid as much as possible. The heaviest thing I want to be lifting in the morning before work is my pillow. As I said, I'm not a morning person. But wait, we're supposed to work out in the morning, right? Actually, no. You don't have to. In fact, there are a bunch of reasons you should train at night. I do and it changed my life from the first time I tried it.

First things first: Let's put the elephant in the room to bed. You won't be kept awake by training in the evening. That's an old lie that morning people cooked up with their elaborate breakfasts while we were hitting the snooze button and getting a well-deserved rest. In fact, a National Sleep Foundation study found that there was no difference in the quality of sleep for those who exercised vigorously in the evening.

1. You'll sleep better!
Numerous studies like this one have shown that people who lift weights in the evening have better sleep quality and duration than those who lift in the morning or afternoon hours. So, it will actually help you sleep better at night. Not only is a good rest imperative for muscle growth and recovery, but sleeping deeper and longer will enable you to feel better and fully rested by morning. You should definitely be more perky and ready to face the day ahead.

2. You'll have better workouts!
In addition to helping you sleep better, several studies found that training in the evening was the path to significant greater muscular gains and improved endurance. What does that mean for you? You can get more out of your workout if you train at night!

3. You'll have lower blood pressure!
A Journal of Strength Conditioning Research study found that people who trained at night lowered their blood pressure by 15 percent more than those who worked out in the morning.

4. You'll have better results, sooner!
A study from The New England University of Birmingham found that those who work out in the evening can go 20 percent longer and at a higher intensity. That means even more burned calories at night and the residual benefits of better workouts: tighter arms, stronger legs, leaner abs, and an overall healthier life!

5. Your body will be primed to work out!
Not just because you will be getting more recovery sleep and burning more calories either. According to research, our cortisol levels are higher in the mornings, which can inhibit muscle growth. But, testosterone levels are higher in the evening, which will boost muscle growth. So this is a great way to get those results even quicker.

With all these amazing benefits of working out at night, are you ready to give it a try? Go ahead, mix up your routine and see how much better you sleep, feel, and advance in your fitness goals. It just might change your life!

Why Your Parents Really Spoil Your Kids (Hint: It's Your Fault!)

My husband, two kids, and I were about five days into a two-week vacation with my parents when I realized it: I was actually jealous of my 65-year-old mom and dad. Not because they were planning a trip to Morocco, not because they could go to a movie any night of the week, and not even because they slept nine hours most nights (OK, also because of all those things).

I was envious because their job descriptions as grandma and grandpa were so much more fun and less stressful than the roles of mom and dad - and they were totally throwing it in my face.

Suddenly, I had an epiphany about why grandparents are so freaking jolly.

Suddenly, I had an epiphany about why grandparents are so freaking jolly. Not only do they have the awesome job of giving their grandkids, whom they undeniably love immensely and unconditionally, absolutely everything they possibly want - "Ice cream for breakfast? Sure! You can't decide between those two toys at Target? Let's buy them both!" - but doing so also gives them the added joy of sticking it to their kid (i.e. me), who undoubtedly provided them with that unique brand of torture only one's own offspring can dispense throughout their own childhood.

Remember that time you decided to see if the hose was long enough to reach around to your bedroom window, then proceeded to unleash a steady stream of water all over your new shag carpet? Well, here's a sugared-up kid with a water gun in your house as payback.

Remember all those meltdowns you had because mom wouldn't buy you every single Care Bear ever made? Enjoy your son's 12 new superhero vehicles, complete with tiny plastic torpedoes that you'll be finding under your couch for the next decade.

Remember the great Spin Art disaster of 1985? Your little one just had to have the biggest, messiest art kit ever made.

I'm not suggesting that a grandparent's only motivation for spoiling our kids is revenge. Of course, they love seeing their smiling faces when they give them way too many birthday gifts or whisper that once mom's out of the room, they're going to slip them another candy bar.

But think about it. If, in 30-ish years, you have the opportunity to innocently pass down a little retribution to the same humans who are currently stealing your sleep, testing your sanity, and driving you to hide in the pantry, wouldn't you do it? I'll admit, the thought brings a smile to my face.

The true key to the grandparent revenge plan is subtlety.

The true key to the grandparent revenge plan is subtlety. Feeding your grandkids cupcakes until they puke does no one any good; neither does letting them stay up all night watching horror movies or buying them the puppy their parents have explicitly forbidden. The subterfuge must be nuanced, tiny little acts that no self-respecting parent would ever allow (like the 9 a.m. ice cream cone my son magically procured from my parents' refrigerator every morning on our vacation), but aren't egregious enough to warrant a serious conversation.

After all, as a grandparent you're practically required to spoil your grandkids. And messing with your kids/their parents? Well, that's the bonus no one has to know about.

Donald Trump's Fake News Comment Is Already the Internet's New Favorite Meme

Donald Trump's first press conference as president-elect was anything but normal. Trump covered a variety of topics, such as conflicts of interest, Obamacare, and recent allegations that Russia may have information about him. When Trump started taking questions, he continuously didn't answer CNN's Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta's questions and at one point told him "You are fake news." Naturally, the internet decided that if Trump can use "fake news" as an excuse about anything, they can as well.

Ahead, see some of our favorite "fake news" excuses. They'll make you giggle and wonder how we ended up here.
