10 Food-Editor-Approved Store-Bought Meal Shortcuts

While we're not exactly prescribing a semi-homemade lifestyle, à la Sandra Lee, sometimes a little dinner head start, in the form of canned beans, a jar of really good tomato sauce, or some roasted beets is the difference between a home-cooked meal and Chinese takeout. These pantry, freezer, and fridge staples are items we actually keep on hand and use on busy nights, when a meal made completely from scratch is just not going to happen.

You're About to See These New Models on All the Runways at Fashion Week

Last year was the year the supermodel made a comeback. Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid are now on a first-name basis with the majority of the world, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a fashion show or major campaign these ladies aren't cast in. But while the fierce duo definitely reigns supreme, there are lesser-known models waiting for their time to shine (and no, we aren't talking Bella Hadid or Hailey Baldwin). Just like those It girls, they, too, have the look, the covetable wardrobe, and even the impressive résumé. Now all they need is your support. Look through for some fresh faces you'll want to follow this Fashion Week and learn their names before they rise to the top.

10 Times Gerard Piqué Was Hotter Than the Barcelona Sun

Let's just preface this whole thing by saying that Shakira is one lucky lady. The Colombian-born singer's longtime love, 29-year-old Gerard Piqué - with whom she has two adorable sons, Sasha and Milan - defines hot.

It doesn't matter if he's sexily sweating on the soccer pitch (he's most famously a defender for FC Barcelona) or simply snapping a quick selfie for Instagram, the man is gorgeous. And if, perhaps, you're unaware of his hot dad status, we've rounded up all the proof you need. Keep reading for a peek at Gerard's sexiest pictures. When you're done swooning, remind yourself that he is not single and check out his sweetest moments with Shakira.

Celine Dion Became a Fashion Icon and Designer, Right Before Your Eyes

Welcome to Celine Dion's style revolution, where the outfits are all sorts of loud. From bold Versace prints to pastel, monochrome looks, Celine is experimenting with every high-fashion designer in the book. Her new stylist, Law Roach (who also dresses Zendaya), can attest to the star's knowledge about clothes:

"Céline is very into fashion, what's in fashion, what's going on, and who's relevant," Roach explained. "She really knows fashion. She looks at VogueRunway.com and at the magazine, so she knows what's current and she also knows exactly what she likes - and she's fearless," Roach told Vogue.

It makes sense then, that Celine will be launching her own accessories line in partnership with Bugatti Group this September. Her bright appearances at Paris Couture Week were only the start to a handful of ensembles so vibrant, we just couldn't turn away. We're sure her handbags and luggage will follow suit. Read on to find all the times Celine redefined the meaning of a psychedelic look.

You Won't Have to Look at Shay Mitchell's Swimsuit Long to Notice This Detail

Once the temperature dips below a certain degree, we get the urge to travel - preferably to a warm, sunny location, where we can rock a swimsuit instead of a puffed-up parka. Shay Mitchell is likely feeling the same, as the star 'grammed a throwback pic of herself in a Positino, Italy, shower, showing off white shades and a stylish green one-piece. The photo made us feel a tad emotional - oh, how we miss those beach-ready days! - but we still "oohed" and "ahhed" over Shay's sexy swimwear, which included fun cutout details on the back and side.

Yet while the weather (especially on the East Coast) isn't exactly appropriate for this type of get-up, the color choice couldn't be more perfect. Considering the recent holiday season, green pieces are a definite must, and Shay's little snap is a great reminder to start scooping 'em up. Scroll through to see Shay's suit once more, then shop something inspired by it - both for vacation and not - ahead.

All the Times DJ Khaled and His Son Were Social Media's Cutest Father-Son Duo

If there's anything DJ Khaled loves more than making hits and dropping "keys" on Snapchat, it's definitely being a dad. The music mogul and Snapchat extraordinaire added first-time father to his résumé with the birth of his son, Ashad Khaled, a few short months ago.

Khaled didn't hold back on sharing his excitement for the arrival of his first child. He even snapped every moment leading up to his fiancée giving birth (he wouldn't be the king of Snapchat if he didn't, now, would he?).

Since Ashad's arrival, Khaled has shared countless snaps of his insanely adorable baby along with some of his most intimate fatherhood moments. Not a day goes by without him ogling over his young "icon" and showering him with affection - and we're not at all ashamed to admit that we're freakin' obsessed.

Ahead we've rounded up all the times Khaled and his baby were the cutest father-son duo on social media. Warning: extreme heart melting may ensue.

18 Years of Shakira's Sexy-Beautiful Curls

We can all agree that a few things have stayed consistent through Shakira's time on the spotlight: Her music has always been catchy; her performances, super sexy; and her abs, strong as a wall. But if there's something that has changed and changed, surprising us with every makeover, it's been, hands down, her hair.

From her original black long and straight hair to her red phase featuring dreads to her blond and curly period, the Colombian beauty has proven she's not afraid to switch things up - but always comes back to her natural texture. Keep reading to see her hair evolution through the past almost two decades.

Why Wearing Lingerie Makes Me Feel Like an Independent Woman

The obsession started with a set of three lacy bralettes - one red, one cream, and my favorite, a deep navy blue. They were from American Apparel, purchased for $20 each on a whim during my first year of college. I think I was just looking for something to buy (the popular retailer was located around the corner from my dorm), and after enrolling in our freshman courses, New York invited us to do little else but shop.

The lingerie would fit seamlessly into my well-curated, slightly smaller wardrobe - the one that allowed me to redefine myself in a new city and help me feel sexy and independent - even if I was the only one who knew about it.

Throughout high school, I'd always loved the classic Hanky Panky low-rise thongs. In fact, I had collected just about every color, but I didn't care about matching my bottoms and tops or accruing sets. But enter the college years, and suddenly, every time I slipped into my new bras, I found myself wanting to complete the look.

Since I don't have large breasts, the unstructured design of the American Apparel pieces didn't bother me. Instead, I appreciated their delicacy. I made the firm decision not to throw my prized possessions in the temperamental washers and dryers that lined the back wall in the basement. I folded them neatly in the plastic drawers beneath my bed and rotated between each color, sighing every morning as I rummaged through my underwear drawer, searching for material that matched in hue.

This Is the Hot New Shoe You've Been Seeing at the Gym (and All Over Instagram)

Activewear has been getting more and more fashion-forward - and sneakers have followed suit. While many of us used to hit the gym in an old college t-shirt, beat-up shoes, and a pair of baggy shorts, it's now a rarity to see someone in anything other than runway-ready athletic styles. But do these trend-focused pieces hold up for exercise?

That was my concern when I went to order a pair of APLs. If you haven't heard of them yet, you've likely seen them - those low-profile, subtly branded sneakers that have been taking over Instagrams everywhere (and they're one of Oprah's favorite things from 2016!). APLs caught my eye when I noticed a friend wearing them last Summer, and I couldn't identify the brand. "Those aren't Nikes. . . . They're not Adidas. . . . What . . ?" As someone who can typically pinpoint a make, model, and year of sneakers, I was stunned and knew I had to get my hands on a pair.

My first thought? "They're probably not that functional, but they're so damn cute I have to get them anyway." Boy, was I wrong. Look - I'm not a running-shoe snob, but I have my favorites that I've gravitated toward over the past two and a half years of my journey, with five half marathons and a handful of five, 10, and 15Ks thrown in there. Though I typically wear a thicker stability shoe, I was wildly impressed with these low-profile APLs. In fact, they're my new fitness gear obsession. Here's my experience with (and details on) the TechLoom Phantom Pro model.

Fit and Feel

  • Super soft, cushioned, and comfortable
  • In my experience, they had to be broken in a little
  • Sock-like upper that you slide into, with a snug, secure fit (you should still wear socks, though)
  • Upper feels like a wetsuit - it's neoprene
  • Laces don't make a huge difference in how snug they fit
  • They run small - I'm a 5.5 in Adidas, 5.5 to 6 in most Nikes, and these were snug at a 6. Nordstrom recommends ordering a size up; I'd recommend ordering a half-size up.
  • They're so snug that after a while, they press down (and indent) the top of my feet. This is after hours of wear.

Specs

  • "8mm drop from the heel to the forefoot" (meaning, there's 8 mm more cushion in the heel than there is in the toe area). Moderate to minimalist shoes have anywhere between a 4 and 10 mm drop.
  • 4-way stretch upper
  • "Proprietary Athletic Propulsion Labs Propelium midsole/outsole" - less rubber, less weight
  • 7.9 ounces: very light, but not featherweight

Functionality

For running: I've worn my TechLoom Phantom Pro APLs on several runs; my longest run was about five miles. It was a nice, neutral ride - more stability and cushion than a Nike Free, but much closer to a barefoot run than a stability shoe like Brooks Adrenaline; a supportive sweet spot, really. They were also pretty springy, light, and soft but still had a controlled and stable feel. I'd recommend them for shorter training runs if you don't need a lot of support. I do need more support for longer distances, so I'll probably switch to something with a slightly more cushioned outsole and a bit more arch support when I start tacking on miles for training.

For training: It's important to note that this specific shoe model is intended for running and that wearing running shoes to weightlift and train can be unsafe, especially if the heel is really cushioned. That said, I found the APL Techloom Phantom Pro's outsole and heel cushioning to be extremely similar to my Nike Free Transform Flyknit trainers. So I gave them a go in Barry's Bootcamp, in Speedplay, and a few other classes at Equinox. To be honest, I've never felt more comfortable; I felt as supported running as I did lifting dumbbells, doing box jumps, and squatting with barbells. These are the ideal shoes for a mixed format class like Barry's, Speedplay, or Orangetheory (which have you running on a treadmill for part of class), one of 2017's big workout trends. If you're planning on trying a class that involves running, APLs are perfect.

For everyday: APLs are great shoes for walking around, so you'll want to mix them into your everyday active or athleisure looks. As mentioned in the fit and feel review, if I wear these for several hours, the top of the shoe indents my foot and can become uncomfortable, so I'd recommend them for shorter wear.

I KonMari-ed the Sh*t Out of My Kitchen and Here's What Happened

I don't know when or where I first discovered Marie Kondo's first book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, but the second I saw the inviting title, I ordered it pronto. I've always struggled to keep my spaces straight - it just seemed to take too much time and require too much energy. However, after attempting the KonMari method in my own apartment and tackling the messiest thing of all, my kitchen equipment, I'm a big-time believer in the methodology.

When I moved into my San Francisco studio apartment five years ago, the kitchen bummed me out, but it wasn't a deal breaker. The cabinets and arched doorframe were original from 1928, and I tried to let that cool bit of knowledge overshadow the fact that there was no window, no oven vent, no garbage disposal, and definitely no dishwasher. I didn't ever feel inspired to cook, except for work or the occasional guest. As a result, the kitchen slumped into a random assortment of junk. I accumulated way beyond my means (I somehow ended up with five zesters and 50 kitchen towels . . . not to mention a drawer full of spare knives), and I avoided getting rid of anything! It became impossible to close cabinets unless they were fastened with rubber bands around the handles, and I always had to forcefully shove my drawers closed with my hip. And for years, I lived like this, with complete avoidance and neglect about everything.

I tackled all my clothes, books, etc. in the order presented in the book, and even though I successfully tidied up each group of items, I still felt a lot of hesitation about my kitchen. I was so embarrassingly messy - me, the food editor! And yet, the time had come, and the overflowing cabinets begged to be sorted. I started with removing the stuff on the countertop and discovered a rotten avocado just casually decomposing in my napkin holder. (Ugh, I know. Wasting avocado is a sin, and sorry for the TMI.) Instead of supporting my usual habits of tiptoeing away from the mess, I bid a sweet "thank you" to the napkin holder (and, don't laugh, the avocado too) and swiftly tossed them in the trash.

It became easier to purge as I moved along, to give away the kitchen tools that no longer served me, and to create a pile of the items I adore immensely. I let go of some of the things that had been gifted to me that I couldn't see myself ever using and focused on the items I had invested in. My Vitamix! My knife set from culinary school! My few but beloved All-Clad pans! And when it came to the food in my cupboard, I tossed the snacks and seasonings I would probably never in a million years crave while cooking. Instead, I kept the things I can never get enough of: red lentil pasta, dried mango, lemon-flavored sardines, and capers. Yeah, I know my cupboard is weird, but it most definitely "sparks joy!" (This is the main point of the book: every item you own and that takes up space in your house should simply make you feel happiness - aka "spark joy" - when you touch it).

For a good six hours on a Friday night, I scrubbed and tossed and reorganized. Then, I stepped back to take a look. I was overcome with an emotion I had never felt in my tiny apartment kitchen - excitement to cook and pride for the space I made my own. I'll have you know, I now make breakfast and dinner every night, and I never see myself wanting to return to my old habits again. My kitchen used to be a throwaway space for me in my house, but now, I find myself giddy at opening a drawer to admire and use all the tools I love.

Drew Barrymore Says Playing a Feminist in Her New TV Series Gave Her a "Wakeup Call"

Drew Barrymore celebrated the premiere of her new Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet tonight in LA, and the actress definitely had feminism on the brain. Sheila, her character in the dark comedy, might not be the likeliest of feminist heroes - she is a zombie, after all - but Drew told us she absolutely qualifies. She even credited the role with helping snap her out of a personal rut in the months following her 2016 divorce.

"[Sheila] gave me a wake-up call in my own life. In the script she's sort of dead inside, kind of going about her daily monotony with a lack of enthusiasm and courageousness. And I found this whole thing came to me at a time when I could have used a wake-up call myself," Drew said. "So I decided to have one alongside her, lose 20 pounds, pluck a gosh-darn row of eyebrows or two, lighten my hair, change attitudinally, and go through an evolution alongside of her. It was so positive for me over the Summer of 2016. And now that it's 2017, I'm like, this show is so perfect for right now."

Drew hits the red carpet with her costar, Timothy Olyphant

Drew and her now ex-husband, Will Koppelman, announced their split in April of last year after nearly four years of marriage. Drew has been refreshingly candid about the divorce. She's also spoken openly about how coming out of the tough experience helped her discover a newfound hope and positivity, especially through relying on "girlfriend time." That female solidarity was on full display just a couple of weeks ago when some of the most important women and girls in Drew's life took part in the Women's March, including Drew's 4-year-old daughter, Olive.

"I couldn't have been more proud. Olive, her cousins, my sister-in-law - my family! They were all there. That's what I would want my family to be doing," she told us at the premiere. "I was filled with pride on a level that is impossible to articulate."

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Strike a Sexy Pose at a Charity Event

It was date night for Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos at Lincoln Center's American Songbook Gala in NYC on Wednesday night. The pair stuck together as they posed for photographers at the event, which was hosted by James Corden and benefited Lincoln Center's performance festivals and educational and community initiatives. Mark donned a sharp black suit, while Kelly stunned in a matching turtleneck dress.

Kelly and Mark are one of the select few couples who have withstood the test of time. Not only are they ringing in their 21st wedding anniversary in May, but they always seem to make time for each other despite their busy schedules. Just last month, they stepped out for the NYC screening of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Perhaps that's the secret to their successful relationship.

Creative 10-Year-Old Invented a Device to Prevent Infant Deaths Caused by Hot Cars

Bishop Curry V from McKinney, TX, is already showing signs of being a creative genius. The 10-year-old recently invented a device that he hopes will decrease the number of infant deaths due to being left in hot cars. Inspired by a tragic story of a baby who died after being left behind in a overheated minivan near his hometown, Bishop created an attachable device that can latch onto a car seat and detect if a child is left behind in a hot vehicle. The device would then blow cool air on the child while their parents and local authorities are alerted.

Bishop already has a provisional patent on the device he calls Oasis and told a local NBC news station "it would be a dream" to create other inventions that could "save many lives." If you would like to donate to help raise money to start production on this life-saving car seat device, you can donate to his GoFundMe page.

Jason Momoa's Evolution Is Proof That He Ages Like Fine Wine

It's a true blessing when your favorite celebrities grow more attractive with age - ahem, Paul Rudd and Charlie Hunnam - and perhaps the most jaw-dropping example of this phenomenon is Jason Momoa. Sure, the Hawaiian heartthrob has always been a cutie, but somewhere between the early 2000s and today, he blossomed into the embodiment of masculine sexiness.

Now 37 years old, Jason rocks a mean set of muscles (RIP, t-shirts) and an impressive collection of tattoos. But do you remember when he was baby-faced and wore his hair in dreadlocks? Journey back with us over almost two decades of Jason Momoa's good looks, and you'll come to believe that men really can age like fine wine. Aren't we lucky?

The Ingenious Hack For Separating Egg Yolks and Whites Using a Water Bottle

If you cringe a little every time a recipe calls for separating egg whites and yolks, this hack will make the process way easier for you. All you need is an empty water bottle, and you'll be on your way to removing the yolks straight from the whites after cracking all the eggs in a bowl. The mouth of the water bottle acts as suction to scoop up egg yolks in a mess-free manner. You'll never have to struggle with cracking the egg and manually separating the whites over a bowl again. We've demonstrated how to execute the process in the following video, which is part of our recipe for unicorn-poop-inspired meringues (yes, you read that right). Take a look at the egg-separating hack below, and don't forget to use your leftover egg yolks in a number of ways.

We Made a Family Scrapbook For Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Blue Ivy, Because Why Not

Beyoncé blessed the world with news of her pregnancy (with twins!) this week, and it didn't take long before the internet exploded with excitement - seriously, even celebrities were overcome with emotion. We can't think of a better time to look back on Bey's best photos with husband Jay Z and their 5-year-old daughter Blue, who's about to become a big sister (times two)!

50+ Photos That Show Shakira Has Changed a Lot in the Past 17 Years but Also Not at All

Shakira's hair color might have flipped and flopped, but through our deep dive through photos of her taken in the past 17 years, we've found some consistencies. First, there's her sweet smile. Shakira isn't afraid to flash her dimples, always waving and posing for the cameras at red carpets, concerts, and even while out and about. Then, there's her wild and curly long hair (with a brief intermission for a bob in 2012 that honestly we had totally forgotten about). And, of course - how could we not say this? - there's the Colombian singer's hard-rock abs, probably a result of hours on stage belly dancing and shaking her hips.

Whether you got to know Shakira during the Latin explosion of the late '90s or knew all the lyrics to her first album, Pies Descalzos, by memory, you will appreciate how much she looks like herself but has also somehow managed to evolve through the years, just like her music. Look ahead for more than 50 photos of Shakira, starting in 1999, the year she was nominated for her first Grammy and broke into American radio with her MTV Unplugged.

Award Season's Not Over, but Nicole Kidman Already Wore the Best Dress

It's not uncommon for stars to start plucking dresses from the runway as soon as they're debuted. But there has been no collection so exciting to choose from as Dior's Spring 2017 line. Jennifer Lawrence and Bella Hadid have already selected more than one look from designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's first show for the fashion house. Perhaps it's because these stylish, sensible celebrities like what the clothes stand for: a marriage of feminist phrases on graphic tees with pretty tulle skirts. Every outfit proved that a lady can look girlie, but be strong as hell in her ways.

In 2016 alone, 17 of these Dior ensembles have been shown off twice - once on the catwalk, and later on the red carpet. Though some have seen minor tweaks in colorway, straps, or embroidery patterns, these designs are clearly causing a craze. We predict it will extend far into award season, so don't be surprised when the actors gather at the upcoming ceremonies, and Dior dresses are all over the place. Nicole Kidman kicked off award season in one of the iconic gowns, after all. Scroll to see them all.

You Might Not Be Genetically Wired For Morning Workouts - Find Out If You Are

Many of us have desperately envied our friends who seem to have this mystical, unattainable power - they spring forth from their beds before their alarm even has a chance to chirp; they're bright-eyed, radiant, energized, and ready for a 5:30 a.m. workout before the sun's up. "They must be a unicorn," you marvel in amazement. "I wish I could be a unicorn."

Your morning scenario is different; even when you tuck yourself into the covers hours earlier than your usual bedtime, lay out your gym clothes, set your alarm, set your backup alarm, and set your snooze-proof alarm . . . that time to rise comes around and your eyelids feel like cement. Your existence screams, "I NEED COFFEE!" Your body is achy and you're bleary, delirious, foggy-minded, and essentially the diametric opposite of energized (you're technically alive, but you're basically the walking dead). You don't even know what the word "energized" means, but you may have read it in a book once.

So you try to condition yourself, right? "If I just try harder, I can be like my unicorn friend and really seize the day!" You try to plan early workouts all week long, forcing you to go to bed earlier, get up before the sun, and start your day on the right foot. But it's not working.

The good news? It's not your fault. It has nothing to do with your drive, how hard you're working, or your commitment to an ungodly schedule of rooster classes. There's nothing wrong with you, and your friend is no more a unicorn than you are a zombie, because it all comes down to your genes - your PER3 gene, specifically.

It makes sense, if you think about it; no two bodies are alike. Diets work differently for different people, and styles of exercise can have a completely different effect on your body than your friend's body. Why would we expect our sleep patterns and circadian rhythm to be any different?

We learned more about this through reading some works from Dr. Michael J Breus, PhD, sleep expert, and mastermind behind The Power of When and the chronotype quiz - this quiz will actually help you determine what your circadian rhythm is like compared to the other "chronotypes."

Dr. Breus says, "No chronotype is 'better' than any other." So this means your early-a.m. friend who is probably a "Lion" has their own challenges that you might not deal with as a "Bear." You'll have different optimal times for energy, different times you naturally like to go to sleep, etc. (and you'll have to take the quiz to find out what you are).

As aforementioned, Dr. Breus notes that your circadian rhythm and sleep drive are "determined specifically by the PER3 gene." David Hinds, a statistical geneticist at 23andMe, agrees that it comes down to DNA. "Genetics influences our preferences and behaviors," he said in an article from Live Science.

The site cites Hinds's study at 23andMe, where "researchers at the company found 15 regions of the human genome that are linked to being a morning person, including seven regions associated with genes regulating circadian rhythm." The University of Leicester also attributed morning habits and alertness to genetics.

So there you have it, folks. Just live your truth! Science says so. While you can still by all means strive for that "at dawn we ride" lifestyle, don't beat yourself up if you find your body rejecting it. It's more than likely the way that you're genetically programmed, and no one is going to think less of you if you're not riding front row at SoulCycle at 6 a.m. with bells on.

Why Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel Broke Up Before Tying the Knot

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have one of the most enviable romances in Hollywood, but their relationship wasn't always sunshine and daisies. Before famously tying the knot in Italy in 2012, Jessica and Justin hit a bump in the road and briefly split in 2011 after four years of dating. At the time of their breakup, the couple's reps released a joint statement to People, saying, "Addressing the media speculation regarding Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake's relationship, we are confirming that they mutually have decided to part ways. The two remain friends and continue to hold the highest level of love and respect for each other."

So what exactly went wrong between Justin and Jessica? A source told People that their romance had simply run its course, adding, "It really was mutual. There really wasn't a final straw. They're just two people who realized they wanted different things in life and were headed in different directions. It was just easier to end it now rather than later." As for those Justin cheating rumors, the source said, "There was never any proof. When you're in a relationship, you have to choose to believe the person or get out."

The "Can't Stop the Feeling" singer later talked about the "hurtful" breakup to Vanity Fair, calling Jessica "the single-handedly most significant person in my life" and stating that he didn't want to discuss it any further because "I have to protect things that are dear to me." Fortunately, Jessica and Justin ended up patching things up and got engaged in January 2012. They got married in October of that year, and are now parents to nearly 2-year-old son Silas. They are one of the handful of celebrity couples who've proven that giving love a second chance is worth it.

Santa Clarita Diet: Drew Barrymore's Netflix Show Looks Like Bloody, Batsh*t-Crazy Fun

In real life, cannibalism objectively isn't cool - don't do it. On Netflix, though? It's a riot. Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are the stars of the new comedy Santa Clarita Diet, which follows Sheila (Barrymore) as she dies, is somehow revived, and develops a taste for human flesh. Basically she's a zombie, except . . . not? "Our life was amazing, but something happened to my wife," Olyphant says in a voice-over in the latest trailer, which shows clips of Barrymore covered in vomit, gnawing on disembodied arms, and shrugging off a casual knife to the heart. Netflix is smartly marketing it like a real diet, complete with a commercial that reads like a parody of well-known diet programs. It's funny and gross, and we are here for it. The show will be available on Feb. 5, but until then, check out both trailers!
