Oscars Movie Challenge: Use Our Checklist as You See All the Movies!
It's not just award season, it's Oscars season! The nominations are out, the other major shows have already happened, and now we have our sights on the biggest movie event of the year: the Academy Awards. If you're anything like us, you're using this time to watch as many Oscar-nominated movies as you possibly can. To help with your obsession, we have a printable checklist and a pinnable one (below) for you to methodically check off each one as you go. Every feature-length film nominated for something is represented here, and the challenge is divided into three parts: the best picture nominees (self-explanatory); the advanced section, which incorporates films with the acting and screenplay nominees not already up for best picture; and the perfectionist category, which has everything else for the movie buff who really wants to see them all.
So print out your checklist, queue up the movies you can watch at home, make plans to go to the theater, and get your cinephile bragging rights on. And if you want to actually brag about it, that's encouraged: use the hashtag #popsugarmoviechallenge and tell us what you're seeing!

The Trump Administration Is Causing an Unstoppable Ripple Through Hollywood

By now, it's no secret that Hollywood has given award season a political tint. We're got some of the biggest ceremonies of the industry under our belt (with the Oscars still on the horizon, of course), and it seems like every show is more political than the last. It should also come as no surprise that the primary impetus for the movement comes from the election of President Donald Trump and the avalanche of worrying executive orders that accompanied his first couple of weeks in office.
The real question is, what triggered this swell of political commentary in the first place? It might just have been the very moment that Trump became president-elect that guaranteed this kind of Hollywood blowback. After all, celebrities began opposing Donald Trump directly after the election and well ahead of award season. It is possible, though, that award season offered the perfect platform to speak out at the perfect time. You could argue that Meryl Streep's Donald Trump call-out at the Golden Globes marked the moment award season irrevocably became politically charged. Or maybe it was the burst of energy that came from the Women's March on Washington that had an all-bets-off effect, thus making the SAG Awards the season's most political show yet. Regardless of how we arrived here, it's worth looking into some of the different ways this unrest has manifested in award season so far and the true irony of the fact that the Hollywood "circus" has shined a spotlight on a very real and present issue.
The Critics' Choice Awards were technically the first award show of the season, but they happened in December. They fell shortly after the election, and the lack of explicit commentary might be blamed on the fact that everyone was still numb from the results. At the beginning of January, the Golden Globes marked a more official kickoff. The night was certainly sprinkled with plenty of political jokes from host Jimmy Fallon and a few select winners. Then, of course, there was Streep's speech, which not only inspired a collective hush in the room but also elicited an obviously bitter tweet from Trump himself. Once we got to the Screen Actors Guild Awards at the end of January, though, Hollywood stopped holding back.
The SAG Awards swept through LA on Jan. 29, and there was no shortage of moments that directly or indirectly took on Donald Trump. On the red carpet, Simon Helberg and his wife made a statement about refugees. During the show, Ashton Kutcher called Trump out on his immigration ban, Julia Louis-Dreyfus filled her acceptance speech with Trump burns, and actor David Hopper seized Stranger Things' win as an opportunity to give an inspiring speech about acceptance and unity. Even in the press room backstage, stars gave a political twist to their Q&A sessions. Sarah Paulson in particular spoke about how crucial it is for actors to speak out.

Now that February has arrived, we've still got two of the biggest award shows ahead. The Grammys are sure to be ripe with political commentary; music is historically used to enact change, to protest, and to make a statement, political or otherwise. In the realm of the Oscars, what started as last year's #OscarsSoWhite controversy has grown into something else. Iranian director Asghar Farhadi has already vowed not to go because of the president's recent immigration ban. Furthermore, while this year's diverse list of nominees may or may not have been a byproduct of last year's complaints, the remarkable amount of inclusion will only serve to strengthen sentiments that undermine Donald Trump. This powder keg will only get closer to exploding as the days roll on.
Here's where the irony comes in: if anything, Hollywood and popular culture have always been seen as a distraction from the tragic events of the real world. Over time, the general population has collectively created a divide between "hard" news and celebrity news. Now, it seems like this award season in particular has become a large vessel for opposing Trump. Consider the subversion of the Golden Globe Awards: the first ceremony was held in 1944 in an effort to distract Americans from World War II. In 2017, the Globes were part of the incendiary force that mobilized Hollywood and set the trend for actors to take sides, speak out, and stand up for what they believe in. This very "distraction" has put our attention right where it needs to be: back on President Donald Trump.
Boop! Relive Emma Stone and Jonah Hill's Sweet Superbad Reunion
Emma Stone has been crushing this year's award season thanks to her enchanting role in La La Land, and things were no different at the SAG Awards in LA on Sunday. After Stone's former Superbad costar Jonah Hill presented the nominees for female actress in a leading role, things took a sweet turn after he announced his friend's name as the winner. Stone and Hill shared an adorable hug before Stone gave an impassioned speech about following your dreams. The two pals then headed backstage, where they shared a few laughs. The whole thing will make you want to touch your best friend's nose and go, "Boop!"
To Those Who Loved La La Land but Hated the Ending, Read This
La La Land is taking award season by storm, racking up tons of Oscar nominations this week, in addition to being the most romantic movie in years. But there seems to be a general consensus from even the most fervent of fans: the ending. (Obviously, spoilers ahead.)
At the end of the movie, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's characters don't end up together, a fact that, anecdotally, has caused pretty much everyone I know who's seen it to say something along the lines of: "I saw La La Land. I loved it. But the ending: WTF?!" It's a seemingly universal sentiment, and while there will probably never be a sequel to show the two leads getting back together, director Damien Chazelle's explanation might make you feel better - or at least might make you understand it more.
Speaking at TIFF back when the movie first premiered in September 2016, Chazelle was asked why Stone and Gosling's characters don't end up together. Here's what he had to say:
"Real life doesn't always live up to the dreams in the movies, but that, in a way, is a great subject for a movie. And that's kind of what drove me with this: making a movie that was definitely informed by these idealized visions that you get from the old Hollywood musicals, but one in which hopefully you have to question a little bit whether real life lives up and what the give and take has to be.
"I find movies where the lovers wind up not together more romantic."These are characters who - and every character in the movie to a certain extent - has to negotiate the balance between dreams and reality, as we all do. To me, it's trying to say something about that. I find movies where the lovers wind up not together more romantic. When they wind up together, it's like you don't know what's going to happen after the movie . . . but these two will always be a perfect pair for me."
The Disgusting Reason Your Cutting Board Could Be Contaminated With Bacteria
Even though you wash your cutting boards after each use - especially after handling meat - there's a chance they could be housing some serious bacteria. Plastic cutting boards are especially susceptible to contamination, more than wooden cutting boards, according to Allrecipes. The magazine took a look at plenty of common cooking truths, like alcohol boiling off and seeds making chiles spicier, in a feature called Busting 21 Kitchen Myths in its February/March 2017 issue. It turns out a lot of these widely held beliefs are false, including the idea that plastic cutting boards are more sanitary than wooden ones. Take a look at the magazine's explanation below, which is based on research from several studies and information from the USDA.
"It would seem a no-brainer that plastic cutting boards are a safer choice: After all, unlike wood, plastic boards can stand up to a dishwasher's sanitize cycle, while you have to wash wood by hand. But an influential University of Wisconsin study concluded just the opposite: Researchers found bacteria like salmonella did not survive overnight when left on wooden cutting boards, but multiplied happily on plastic. Another study found those who used plastic cutting boards at home were actually more likely to get sick from salmonella. The USDA holds that both wood and plastic are subject to contamination, so your best bet is to stay safe: Clean cutting boards thoroughly with hot water and soap before going on to prep the next food. (Prep foods like veggies before raw meat.) Replace any worn boards that have developed hard-to-clean grooves or dents that can harbor bacteria. Dry wooden boards thoroughly with a towel, and don't stack damp boards together - that is a potential petri dish."
Since a petri dish is not exactly the type of dish welcome in the kitchen, it would be wise to clean your cutting boards even more thoroughly from here on out.
Surprise! Denzel Washington Just Won the SAG Award Over Casey Affleck and Ryan Gosling
Denzel Washington is a terrific actor, but we have to admit we didn't see his SAG Awards win for male actor in a leading role coming. Washington took home the trophy on Sunday night, beating out La La Land's Ryan Gosling and Manchester by the Sea's Casey Affleck. He may be a revelation in Fences, but Gosling and Affleck have been the odds-on favorites for this year's lead actor Oscar - this development just put a wrench in things. Even Washington, who had never won a SAG Award, seems a little surprised (but very happy) to be up on stage!

And given that the Oscars are still a ways away, the list will likely get longer in the days to come. Shakira's Performance of "Ojos Así" at the First Latin Grammys Was Nothing Short of Steamy
Shakira's performance of "Ojos Así" at the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards had everything: shirtless men, belly dancing, a sexy outfit, powerful vocals, and even fire! The Colombian singer brought out all the stops for the first-ever award show, where she won two gramophones. And just in case, like us, you have no concept of how fast time flies, this was 17 years ago - we repeat, 17 years ago! - back when she was still only singing in Spanish and had just a few hits under her belt.
Even then, after this night, there was no doubt in our minds that Shakira was going to continue to impress us with her performances for many years to come. Watch the full performance above.

Every Win and Nomination La La Land Has Scored So Far
La La Land has already made history, breaking the record for most Golden Globes won by a single film after snagging all seven of the awards it was nominated for. In January, the spectacular film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, tying with All About Eve and Tiantic for the most nominations of all time. With an additional eight accolades on the Critics' Choice winners' list and a total of 16 trophies so far, it seems like the musical is set to make an unprecedented sweep through award season. You Can't Stop, Won't Stop Staring at These Magical Harry Potter GIFs
Every Harry Potter fan is constantly clamoring for ways to reignite their love of the series. For some, it means reading between the lines and coming up with new theories. For others, like Amanda Penley, it means drawing and creating GIFs of her favorite Harry Potter locations.
Penley's illustrated and animated series is called Harry Potter and Magical Places. It takes you through several of the notable locations in the wizarding world like Gringotts Bank, the Burrow, and Hagrid's hut. The result is magically delightful, as you get to imagine these places once more through Penley's drawings.
You can really feel the amount of effort and dedication that Penely put into this project, which makes sense since she grew up loving the books. However, that wasn't her only reason for producing these drawings. "I also wanted to create this series for other fans wanting just a touch of design and magic, really sharing my love for this world," said Penley in an email.
Check out her illustrations ahead and don't miss out on her other artwork. This should hopefully hold you over till the newest book in the series arrives!
Frontier Should Be Your Next Netflix Binge and Not Just For Jason Momoa
I'll be the first to admit that, when Jason Momoa's new Netflix show, Frontier, was announced, I only planned to watch for the eye candy element, especially considering that the show hit Netflix on Inauguration Day. I figured that watching my ruggedly handsome celebrity crush throwing axes in colonial clothing would be a welcome distraction from current events. When I sat down to watch it, though, I found myself drawn in by the compelling characters, the Game of Thrones-worthy intrigue and the Vikings-style action sequences.
Now I happily recommend the series to friends and family not just for the Jason Momoa element - though, let's be real, that will always factor in - but for several other factors. If you're considering diving into a new show, read on for six reasons you should give Frontier a shot.
- The powerful women in the show are top-notch. If you're looking for girl-power inspiration, there are several characters in the series who will be your new role models. Jessica Matten kicks serious ass as Declan Harp's stunning sidekick, Sokanon, Katie McGrath usurps the male-dominated fur trade as newly widowed Elizabeth Carruthers, and Zoe Boyle steals every scene as conniving barkeep Grace Emberly.
- It's unapologetic and action-packed. While Frontier spans several countries and boasts a multifaceted plot, it never puts on any airs about what it is first and foremost: a bloody, raw, and dramatic action series. For every love story or tearjerking character development, there's also Declan Harp throwing a hatchet or literally slapping a rifle when cornered. No apologies, baby.
- It features First Nations and Native American actors without resorting to tired, problematic stereotypes or forced accents. When dealing with North American history, far too many film projects rely on troubling stereotypes of First Nations people; sometimes, they even cast nonnative actors to portray important roles. Frontier stands out from the crowd by representing a complex look at native Canadian tribes, their respective hierarchical structures, and unique traditions. Native culture is infused into every aspect of the series, from the music in the opening credits to the intricacies of several plotlines.
- Jason Momoa is truly magnetic. It seems that vengeful trader Declan Harp is the role Momoa was always meant to play; he has talked at length about his deep connection with the character, and it's clear that he has a blast while playing Harp. His acting prowess is on display in this role more than his other high-profile projects (sorry, Khal Drogo), and it's hard to keep your eyes off of him when he's on screen.
- The show features talent from your favorite shows: Downton Abbey, Fargo, Hemlock Grove, and Game of Thrones. It's definitely one of those shows that'll make you say, "Hey, I know them!" Several familiar faces from your favorite TV series are front and center in Frontier, so feel free to let your fandoms collide.
- The plotlines about greed and colonialism are especially poignant right now. The driving force behind Frontier's storyline is the effect of greed and Eurocentrism in the "New World." Considering current events like the Standing Rock protests, now is an extremely appropriate time to highlight such issues.
In the Blink of an Eye, Khloé Kardashian Drops Good American's Season 2 Collection
You can never have too many good jeans, and clearly Khloé Kardashian agrees. The star announced her own denim line Good American and the collection is available online, and in select Nordstrom stores, for fans to shop. As promised, the brand offers three silhouettes: Good Legs (skinny), Good Cuts (boyfriend), and Good Waist (high-waisted) with prices ranging from $159 to $215. The denim's all produced in Los Angeles, a fact that Khloé was proud of and defended after a Twitter user accused her of operating a sweatshop.
The star also had another reason to be proud, though. Good American reached $1 million in sales on its first day of release. According to a press release, it was "the biggest denim launch in apparel history." An even more impressive feat was the release of Good American's first non-denim item: a hoodie that immediately sold out. There is a waitlist, however, for those who want a second chance to snag one in navy. Khloé can probably rest easy now knowing fans are standing by her designs.
Given the success of the line, the star just dropped a season two collection. Two new jeans - the Good Legs Crop and the Good Waist Crop - are available to shop online Thursday, Feb. 2. The inclusive collection also features women of all sizes including models Denise Bidot and Clémentine Desseaux.
Scroll on for a peek at the new collection before it drops.

6 Fascinating and Haunting Facts About the JonBenét Ramsey Murder Case
This year marks 21 years since 6-year-old beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey was found murdered in her family home, and the cold case is still just as captivating as it was in December 1996. JonBenét's father, John, was the one who found her body on Christmas Day in the basement of their Boulder, CO, home roughly eight hours after her parents reported her missing after they found a ransom note. An autopsy of JonBenét's body later revealed that she was struck in the head and strangled to death.
Because the 20-year anniversary just passed, interest in the case is once again picking up steam. A number of TV specials aired, including The Killing of JonBenét: The Truth Uncovered, JonBenét: An American Murder Mystery, The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey, and Who Killed JonBenét?. Netflix has picked up a documentary called Casting JonBenét, which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Here are six facts about one of the most haunting and heartbreaking murders in recent history:
1. JonBenét suffered a horrific death.
The stunning little girl was found wrapped in her white blanket with a nylon cord around her neck, her wrists tied above her head, and duct tape over her mouth. Evidence later showed that she was hit over the head with a blunt object, which knocked her unconscious. Sometime between 45 minutes to two hours after she was knocked out, she was strangled to death with a piece of cord and the handle from a broken paintbrush. Police also later confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.
2. The ransom note posed more questions than answers.
JonBenét's mother, Patsy, told police that she realized her daughter was missing after she found a two-and-a-half-page ransom note in their home. The letter demanded the Ramseys pay $118,000 for their daughter's safe return, which was also almost the exact amount her father, John, had recently received as a work bonus. Police later determined that the note was written on a piece of paper from a notebook inside the Ramsey home. Both John and Patsy then underwent handwriting tests, and while police were able to say that John didn't write it, Patsy's test results were labeled "inconclusive."
3. There was no sign of a break-in.
Police found no signs of forced entry in or around the Ramsey home. The only people known to have been in the house on the night of the murder were Patsy, John, and JonBenét's older brother, Burke, who was 9 years old at the time.
4. Police were criticized for making crucial mistakes.
Shortly after police arrived, they failed to completely seal off the crime scene, allowing family members and friends to enter and leave the house. Critics of the case also claim that investigators failed to gather sufficient forensic evidence before and after JonBenét's body was found. Many people believe this is because they had already made up their minds that the Ramseys were guilty and didn't feel the need to gather evidence proving otherwise.
5. Both of JonBenét's parents as well as her older brother, Burke, were considered suspects.
Because it seemed so unlikely that kidnappers would kill their victim, leave the body in their own home, and still leave behind a ransom note, police were quick to turn their suspicions to John, Patsy, and Burke. Boulder police believed for many years that on the night of the murder, Patsy injured JonBenét in a fit of rage and either killed her while still angry or killed her to cover up the injury. In 1999, a Colorado grand jury voted to indict Patsy and John because they believed they were abusive toward their daughter, which eventually led to murder. In 2008, two years after Patsy died of ovarian cancer, prosecutors officially cleared the family of any wrongdoing. Burke also recently sat down for an interview with Dr. Phil about the case, which will air in mid-September.
6. There is still unexplained DNA evidence.
In December 2003, investigators retested a blood sample found on JonBenét's underwear, which was revealed to belong to an unidentified male who was not related to the Ramsey family. To this day, investigators have not been able to identify who the DNA belongs to, and the case remains open.
A Simple Breakdown of What Moonlight Is About
While the glitz and glamour of La La Land has earned the larger-than-life musical a record-tying 14 Academy Award nominations, a heartbreakingly beautiful underdog may be giving it a run for its money. Moonlight, nominated for eight Oscars, draws on the lives of director Barry Jenkins and writer Tarell Alvin McCraney and is based on McCraney's stage play, In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue. It tells the story of Chiron, a young black man growing up in a rough Miami neighborhood and evolving from a shy child to a complex, troubled adult.
Act 1: "Little"
Chiron's story is told in three parts, and the main character is portrayed by three different actors, depicting him at varying milestone ages. Alex Hibbert opens the film as a quiet, school-age Chiron, who people call "Little." He's bullied by classmates and mistreated by his sole caretaker, his single mother, Paula (Naomie Harris), who is addicted to drugs and wavers between neglect and abuse. Young Chiron finds an unexpected father figure in Juan (Mahershala Ali), the kingpin of the local drug trade. It's in the home that Juan shares with his girlfriend, Teresa (Janelle Monáe), where Chiron feels safe, cared for, and comforted. This haven, however, is shattered once young Chiron realizes the role Juan plays in his own mother's drug addiction.
Act 2: "Chiron"
Amid the bullying that forces Chiron (now going by his real name) into isolation, he finds a friend in classmate Kevin (played first by Jaden Piner and later as Jharrel Jerome and André Holland). The bond they forge through the film's second chapter, however, is broken as a peer named Terrel (Patrick Decile) sets his sights on mercilessly abusing a teenage Chiron (now played by Ashton Sanders). The complexity of Chiron and Kevin's relationship reaches its peak during an intimate encounter that, for the first time, forces Chiron to confront his sexual identity. This continued struggle with his sexuality is central to Chiron's story, and his initial exploration with Kevin causes confusion. It's followed by an act of betrayal that leads to a pivotal turning point.
Act 3: "Black"
It's in the film's third act that Chiron's story comes full circle as he struggles to make sense of his adult life and find peace in the fractured and fragmented relationships of his past. Trevante Rhodes portrays this grown-up version of Chiron, called "Black," facing the fallout of his complex, painful youth.
While the question "What is Moonlight about?" can be succinctly answered in chronological plot points ("He is gay. He grows up. The end," as Kristen Page-Kirby teased in The Washington Post), the true answer can't be conveyed in a simple synopsis. "That's what happens in Moonlight, but that's ultimately not what it's about," Page-Kirby continued. "What it's really about, though, is what it's like to live that life."
Will We See Jess in Future Gilmore Girls Episodes? Milo Ventimiglia Weighs In
This past year, our crush on Milo Ventimiglia reignited in a really big way. Aside from making us swoon on the hit TV show This Is Us, he recently reprised his beloved role as troublemaker Jess Mariano on Netflix's Gilmore Girls reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Even though there wasn't much resolution between his character and Rory, fans were even more disappointed by those iconic final four words. While we're secretly hoping the series will do another season, Ventimiglia doesn't sound so optimistic.
In an interview with Variety, the actor weighed in on whether or not he'd return for more episodes. "If [creators] Dan Palladino or Amy Sherman-Palladino ever called me, of course," he explained. "They are the reason why I show up. Amy created Jess, and I loved speaking her words. But I do kind of feel like audiences shouldn't get so greedy. They were given a last serving of pie - why don't we just leave it at that?" And as far as - spoiler - who is the father of Rory's baby, he simply doesn't care. "Let me be real honest: When I worked on the show, that was my present but that's 13 years in the rearview for me now so I don't spend what little free time I have wondering about the baby of a past TV flame." And there you have it, folks!
Bare Minerals Is Diversifying Its Iconic Foundation Line With 12 New Shades
Finding a flattering foundation can be a frustrating task. I have a medium-deep complexion with golden undertones, and I frequently struggle with products being too red or ashy. I know I'm not alone: for decades, many beauty brands have failed to provide various foundation options for women with more diverse complexions. Thankfully, there has been a lot of recent progress. More and more cosmetics companies are extending their product categories and shade ranges to cater to even more skin tones, and Bare Minerals is one of them.
The brand is expanding its cult-favorite Original Foundation ($29) with 12 new shades, bringing the entire range to include 30 hues total. The new colors come in various light to dark shades with cool to warm undertones. With each wear of the iconic formula, you'll get up to eight hours of buildable coverage and broad spectrum SPF 15 protection. I was able to test a few of the new hues and ended up perfectly matched with the shade Tan.
To help launch the extension, Bare Minerals partnered with 30 influencers from various backgrounds as part of its #30Originals campaign, which also aimed to unify women across social media. Makeup mavens like Ellarie, Deepica Mutyala, and Summer Albarcha joined the cause to share their perfect makeup match. Along with having an active role in creating the new pigments, Ingrid curated a limited-edition Be Your Best Self kit ($50), which includes a sheer highlighter, a rose gold foundation brush, and your mineral foundation hue.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Were Actually Dating Other People When They First Met
It's hard to imagine a world without Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's love. They're so picture-perfect together and we can't get enough of their sweet family, but they were actually dating other people when they first met. In 2010, the two played love interests in Green Lantern, and although they became fast friends on set, nothing developed romantically at the time as Blake was dating her Gossip Girl costar Penn Badgley and Ryan was married to Scarlett Johansson.
Fast-forward a year later and Blake was single and Ryan had just finalized his divorce. Even though the actress dated a few A-listers in between her breakup with Penn (hello, Leonardo DiCaprio), sparks really flew when she and Ryan went on a double date - with other people! "She was on a date with another guy, and I was on a date with another girl," Ryan recalled. "That was the most awkward date [from their perspective] probably because we were just like fireworks coming across." And the rest is history!
Everything We Know So Far About the Jeffree Star Androgyny Palette
Update: After some serious anticipation, Jeffree Star has taken to his YouTube channel to reveal the contents of the Androgyny palette, which was in the works for nine months. There are two formulas among the 10 "earthy, sexy" shades: metallic and "supermatte," a richly pigmented, velvety finish. There's a healthy mix of neutrals as well as punchier shades like Prussian blue, cadet blue, and cherry. Keep reading to see a video of Jeffree swatching the palette and describing its history and ideation in his own words.
Original story: Late last year, makeup mogul Jeffree Star revealed that 2017 would be a big year for his line of eponymous cosmetics, and that he was working on expanding the range to include foundation, concealer, and a brand-new shadow palette, Androgyny (debuting in March). Based on the quality of his past powder pigment formulas, such as his incredible Skin Frost Highlighters ($29) and the Beauty Killer Shadow Palette ($45), we were anxious to hear more about Androgyny, but knew we couldn't wait too long for more news. Thankfully, Jeffree wasted no time in divulging more details on his social media accounts.
Above is Androgyny, which is wrapped in a lizard leather-textured case (but likely faux, as Jeffree's formulas are all vegan). "10 jaw-dropping shades," he declared. "This is my version of a "neutral palette" but with a twist . . ." He even posted a picture of himself wearing a few of the colors on Twitter (which you'll see when you read on). We spy two matte shades - electric orange and a rosy burgundy - and a shimmering gold. Though orange and burgundy are a far cry from "neutral" for most, we're thrilled to see Jeffree continue to change the beauty landscape in 2017. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
Sometimes the Best Parents Are the Ones With the Screaming Kid
It's not often that I get the pleasure of shopping with just one kid, but the other day I was out at Costco with just my 2-year-old. We were zooming down the isles, and I was really in my element, thinking about how fun and easy it is to have just one baby. Suddenly our peaceful moment was ruined when we heard incredibly loud screaming. My little guy even looked worried. "Kid crying?" he asked.
We glanced down the aisle and saw The Problem. A kid who appeared also appeared to be around 2 years old was struggling to get out of the cart. He was crying and kicking and having a complete meltdown. I admit that I felt gloriously happy to have the kid who wasn't crying, but I also felt so sorry for the poor mom. She looked tired and defeated and I heard her tell the kid, "Why can't you be a good boy? Do you see these other kids? They're just sitting in their carts, minding their own business. You're the only one crying."
The mom rushed around the store, trying to ignore the tantrum, and meanwhile I had a fun little shopping date with my Little Buddy.
At the end of the day, it was time to pick up Big Sister from preschool. I unstrapped my toddler from his car seat and he reached for his milk cup. "Bring inside?" he asked.
I thought about it for a second. If he brought the cup inside, it would get all covered with preschool germs. Plus, my daughter would immediately demand milk too, and I hadn't brought any for her.
"No," I decided. "Let's just leave it here. We'll be back in just a few minutes."
At that point, my perfect little angel decided to throw a fit. He started screaming and crying and clutching that stupid milk cup. The other moms in the parking lot started to stare at me. Suddenly, I was the lady with the crying kid. I could feel myself getting hot and bothered. I was tempted to change my mind. I almost did because I really wasn't enjoying being the mom with the kid who won't stop crying. Yet I knew that I couldn't give in now, because if I did, he would learn that all he has to do is cry and I'll give in to whatever he wants. I pried the milk cup from his hands and pulled him out of his seat. I would like to say that he quit crying once he realized I wasn't giving in. I would like to say that he forgot about once he saw his Big Sister, but he didn't.
That kid cried all the way in to school, the entire time I was talking to my daughter's teacher, and all the way to the car. Other moms continued to stare at me in a judgy-compassionate way, but I held my ground. Sure, it would have been easier to give in. He would have stopped crying and pleasantly walked inside, but I taught him an important lesson that day. He doesn't get his way just because he's crying. And I learned an important lesson too. Just because a kid is pitching a fit in a store or parking lot doesn't mean that the parents don't have it under control. Sometimes the best parents are the ones with the screaming kids.

La La Land: Is That Really Ryan Gosling Playing the Piano?!
La La Land is the most enchanting movie of 2016, but besides the singing and dancing, one particular element will dazzle you: Ryan Gosling's piano skills. He plays a struggling jazz purist in the film, and there are some musical scenes that may cause you to wonder if it's really Gosling playing or a body double. Shocking as it may be, it's definitely Gosling playing the whole time!
"In fact, there's not a single close-up shot of [the character] Sebastian's hands in the entire movie that's a piano double," director Damien Chazelle said at a press event for the movie. "It's all Ryan." Even John Legend, who has a smaller part in the film, was impressed: "I was jealous, man," he said. "Watching him play, I was like, 'Wow, this guy is really good and he just learned this in the last few months.' It's pretty amazing."
According to Gosling, it took him three months of lessons to learn to play jazz piano: "The director wanted to shoot all those sequences in one take so there was no opportunity to squeeze in, or sneak in, a proper piano player." How is one person this talented?

Cards Against Humanity's CEO Job Listing Is Going Viral For 1 Hilarious Reason
It looks like Cards Against Humanity is in the market for a new leader, but the company has one very specific candidate in mind - someone who may or may not have just led the entire country for eight years.
Yep, that's right. The business behind your favorite inappropriate card game really wants Barack Obama to be its new CEO, and is going to great lengths to get his attention. The makers of the party game posted detailed job listings in both the Chicago Tribune and on Craigslist to advertise the open position with some strangely particular requirements. Some of the qualifications include:
- Willing to inherit the consequences of eight years of irresponsible spending
- Experience hunting terrorist masterminds
- Minimum eight years experience President of the United States of America or equivalent nation
- Must currently hold a national approval rating of 57.2 percent or higher
The humorous ad goes on to say that "the ideal candidate will be excited to travel for work and be a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize." It doesn't get much more obvious than that. The benefits of this position? "Health/dental/vision insurance (while available)" and unlimited access to almonds, as a nod to Obama's nightly almond-eating habit. You can read the full-length version of the viral ad on Craigslist's website or see it below.
So far, our former POTUS has not responded to the company's plea for his leadership skills, but we can only hope that he does because it's sure to be an entertaining reaction. In the meantime, you can catch us playing the Donald Trump version of the hilarious card game.
The Shamrock Shake Returns, Along With 5 More Minty Beverages at McDonald's!
McDonald's debuts a chocolatey line of beverages, sweetened with minty-vanilla Shamrock Syrup, the main ingredient found in the beloved Shamrock Shake, pictured above. Each Spring, McDonald's has released this fan favorite, but it's the first time they have extended the flavor to other milkshakes, hot chocolate, and coffee-based drinks. After the success of the peppermint mocha, it makes sense McDonald's would want to find another seasonal way to incorporate mint and chocolate flavors into their menu. Also worth noting, the drinks are topped with green sugar crystal sprinkles, so your Instagrammed beverages are sure to dazzle.
So what drinks beyond the Shamrock Shake will you be able to order? Here's the full line, according to Brand Eating:
New Chocolate Shamrock Shake: "A layered shake with chocolate shake on the bottom and Shamrock Shake on top. It comes topped with whipped topping, green sugar crystals, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup."
New Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappe: "A Chocolate Chip Frappe (mocha frappe base and ice) blended with Shamrock Shake syrup and finished with whipped topping, green sugar crystals, and a drizzle of chocolate syrup."
New Shamrock Hot Chocolate: "A hot chocolate (steamed milk and chocolate syrup) with Shamrock Shake syrup."
New Shamrock Mocha: "A mocha (chocolate syrup, espresso, and steamed milk) with Shamrock Shake syrup."

Game of Thrones: Will Season 7 Cover Any Material From the Books?
We're already salivating over each and every detail that comes in about Game of Thrones season seven, but one thing that's nearly impossible to forecast? The plot. Fans of the books are well aware that season one roughly covered the material in the first book of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Game of Thrones. Season two corresponded to A Clash of Kings, and seasons three and four covered A Storm of Swords. Seasons five and six included some plotlines from A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, along with stories that aren't covered in the books, i.e. original material. This leaves us with the upcoming seventh season.
Martin has not released The Winds of Winter, the next book in the series. In fact, we don't even have a firm release date. The only information we have is the title, and the title of the following book, A Dream of Spring. That means we're pretty much in the dark when it comes to storylines. For now, we can just speculate based on what the cast has said and the leaked set pictures.
