5 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me Before I Started Running

When I first got into running, I experienced everything from painful blisters to chafing to unsupported bosoms - no wonder I hated it. I wish someone had sat me down and told me these basic tips and tricks to help smooth my transition from nonrunner to runner. If you're just starting out on your own journey pounding the pavement or treadmill belt, here are things you should know about running.

It Gets Easier

As with most things, the more you do it, the easier it becomes. To strengthen your muscles, acclimate your heart and lungs, and increase your endurance, run at least three times a week. Start off with a doable distance such as two miles. Once that distance feels good, gradually increase your mileage. The key is to move at a comfortable pace for a reasonable amount of time. If you do too much too soon, you could end up with an injury or a deep hatred for the sport.

You Don't Have to Wear Two Sports Bras

If you're well-endowed, running can be painful. I wore two sports bras for the longest time because I couldn't find one that prevented the uncomfortable bounce. A cheap cotton sports bra from Target just won't do. You might have to spend $50 or more, but it's worth it when you only have to wear one bra you trust.

Don't Skimp on Gear

For my first run, I picked up a $25 pair of sneaks and a pack of cheap cotton socks and wondered why I had screaming blisters. You don't need a ton of gear, but what you do need, you shouldn't skimp on. Spring for a trusty pair of well-fitting sneaks ($60-$120), a good pair of wicking socks ($10-$15), a super supportive sports bra ($30-$70), a seamless tank and long-sleeve to prevent chafing ($20-$40), and a lightweight pair of running shorts or tights to avoid wedgies ($20-$40). Technical gear specifically designed for running makes a huge difference and could make or break your new running career.

There Are Apps to Chart Your Run

I often drove running routes in my car to figure out mileage until my hubby introduced me to the wonderful world of iPhone running apps. The GPS not only keeps track of your distance, but it'll also chart your workout time, pace, calories burned, and elevation and give you a map of your run. Being able to track your workout might motivate you to keep going so you can beat your personal records.

Running Outside Is Harder Than the Treadmill

My power was out one morning - meaning no treadmill time for me - so I decided to run outside instead. It was so much harder! The real hills, the uneven terrain, the wind, the sun, the heat - it all makes running tougher than it already is. But I'll tell you, once I started running outside, I saw a huge improvement in my strength and endurance. I even lost the five extra pounds I could never quite shake, and my muscle definition was noticeable to others ("Damn, look at your calves!"). I know people are in love with their treadmills, but I wish someone suggested I run outside because the difficulty made me a better runner.

So THIS Is What Those All-Purple Spotify Ads Really Mean

If you've encountered one of Spotify's advertisements within the last week, chances are you scratched your head and assumed they were unfinished. The ads feature a bright purple hue with no words except the streaming service's logo in the corner. They've recently flooded cities like New York and London, leaving people wondering: What's the deal? What on earth is this even promoting?

It turns out they might be alluding to the music service nabbing the streaming rights to Prince's jams. This isn't the first time we've heard buzz about the late singer's music being released to streaming services; Billboard reports that Spotify's ads are likely hinting at his music becoming available by the time of his Grammys tribute on Feb. 12, 2017. Prince and the color purple go together like peanut butter and jelly, so these ads really couldn't be making it any more obvious.

We reached out to a Spotify representative for comment but have not received confirmation on the speculations yet. While we await their response, we're crossing our fingers that we can soon jam to "Little Red Corvette" on our morning commute.

6 Songs Lady Gaga Seriously Needs to Sing at the Super Bowl

We're so close to Lady Gaga's Super Bowl Halftime Show performance. Going into such a monumental event, it's hard not to fantasize about what kind of crazy theatrics Gaga might pull out. After all, her music videos, tours, costumes, and other performances are the stuff of legends. The pop star has promised fans a career-spanning performance, so we have a feeling she'll be dipping into all five of her solo studio albums to put on a one-of-a-kind show. With such a vast repertoire, there's one obvious burning question: what will she sing? We've pulled out a shortlist of the biggest songs from Gaga's career. It's a good place to start.

Exactly How Gross Is Santa Clarita Diet?

Netflix has debuted its new original series, Santa Clarita Diet, and it's a lot. The horror-comedy follows an average suburban family that has its world turned upside-down when the matriarch (Drew Barrymore) becomes a member of the walking dead. With a newfound appetite for living people, Mrs. Sheila Hammond is forced to feed on flesh, exposing her husband, Joel (Timothy Olypant), and daughter, Abby (Liv Hewson), to the unsavory world of murder and cannibalism. Despite its dark themes, the show maintains its humor and comedy, leaving many people to wonder, just how graphic is it? (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

I'm not going to lie - the show definitely has its gross moments. For instance, when Sheila first transforms into a "zombie," she projectile vomits green goo all over the bathroom: ceilings, floors, walls - every surface is covered. The remnants hanging from her lips as she talks are particularly gag-worthy.

When she makes her first kill (a sleazily realtor played by Nathan Fillion), her husband finds her nose-deep in his chest cavity, with intestines hanging from her mouth (this isn't a great look for her).

Most of her kills involve her attacking her victim from behind, and biting directly into his jugular. Not great, but not too bloody either. The blood appears when she actually eats; it gets all over her hands, clothes, and face (bleach must forever be on their shopping list). Chiseling off pieces of a frozen corpse and blending it to make a smoothie also becomes the norm.

Finally, toward the end of the season, Sheila begins to physically deteriorate - an unexpected side effect of the virus. This causes her pinky toe to fall off, in addition to other little surprises.

Overall, the show is pretty gruesome. There aren't many ways to make eating people and chopping them up into little bits seem pleasant. However, the campy feel of the show paired with its comedic elements definitely make it more bearable. In case you're morbidly curious, here's a small list of our top five disgusting moments:

  1. Sheila eats the frozen foot of a corpse.
  2. Sheila snacks on severed fingers, using the nails to pick her teeth.
  3. The vomit fiasco.
  4. Her eyeball pops out of its socket.
  5. Sheila gorges on her neighbor.

There, satisfied?

The Heartbreaking Reason Queen Elizabeth II Won't Be Celebrating Her Sapphire Jubilee

Queen Elizabeth II is on the cusp of reaching a rare and important milestone, but don't expect to see her celebrating anytime soon. As the country's longest-reigning monarch, she'll have the distinction of becoming the first British sovereign to mark 65 years on the throne on Feb. 6, her Sapphire Jubilee. Although she went all out for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, this year will be a much more somber occasion for a very significant reason. In an interview with The Telegraph, the queen's former press secretary, Dickie Arbiter, explained the heartbreaking meaning behind the 65th anniversary. "It's important to understand that for the queen this marks the anniversary of the day her father died," he said. "She has always made it clear that her long reign is a consequence of her father's early death and so it is not a day for celebration. She will go to church the day before and her father will be in her thoughts then. On the day itself, she will do her red boxes but she won't be going out and about anywhere."

The queen will reportedly spend the day at her Sandringham country estate, which is where her father, King George VI, spent his last days before dying in his sleep due to complications from lung cancer on Feb. 6, 1952. The royal family's 90-year-old matriarch, who has experienced health problems herself lately, will likely treat the occasion as business as usual, going through her famous red boxes and remaining in "quiet reflection" rather than engaging in any public events. The decision echoes her reaction to surpassing Queen Victoria as the longest-reigning monarch in 2015, when she politely revealed that the historic record was "not one to which I have ever aspired." Regardless of her choice not to publicly celebrate, the Royal Mint has created a collection of commemorative £5 coins to honor the Sapphire Jubilee. Each is engraved with a quote from the speech she gave on her 21st birthday while on a family tour of South Africa in 1947, when she was still just a princess: "My whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service."

14 Everyday Struggles of Bilingual People

I speak 2.5 languages. I'm fluent in Spanish (my birth language) and English, and I know enough Italian to help a lost tourist in the subway. Though being able to communicate in more than one tongue has its serious benefits - there are more jobs available to me, I have an easier time when traveling abroad, some studies even say we're smarter (tooting my own horn here) - there are struggles. Boy, are there struggles.

More than once, I have spoken Spanish to someone who has no idea what I'm saying, and words have come out of my mouth in a total jumble of Spanglish that not even I understand. Minor issues, sure, but if you're bilingual, you know it doesn't end there. Keep reading for a list of the everyday situations you probably also face - bilinguals, unite!

Is Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life Season 2 Happening? Here's What We Know

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was supposed to be cut-and-dry. One season for Amy Sherman-Palladino to properly wrap up the series she started and for fans to get closure with their long-lost friends. Instead, those infamous Last Four Words opened new doors in a way that we didn't expect, leaving us with even more questions that we came in with.

Warning: major spoilers below!

Rory is pregnant, so what does that mean for the series? If this were a regular show, it would just be a cliffhanger until we find out who the father is next season - but it's not just a regular show anymore. Is it Logan's baby? A Wookiee child? At no point in the series did she seem to long for a child; did she enlist Paris's help to be a surrogate for Lorelai and Luke? Will this haunt us for the rest of our lives??

That certainly seems to be Sherman-Palladino's intention. Before the new episodes premiered on Netflix, she teased the ending to Entertainment Weekly. "We got the ending that weirdly was supposed to be the end of the series. They could've done something in season seven that would've changed our ending and that would've been OK, but they didn't . . . I knew it from the very beginning, I really did. And it was only because I knew where I wanted the show as a series to go."

Netflix currently has no plans for a second season of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. But hey, that doesn't mean that it definitively won't happen. We'll keep you posted!

Santa Clarita Diet: Has Netflix Renewed the Show for Season 2?

While the critical response to Santa Clarita Diet has been mild-to-positive, audiences seem to be eating up season one faster than Drew Barrymore devouring a corpse. Thought the first episodes were just released, you may already be wondering about a second season. The truth is that Netflix hasn't officially renewed the series for a second set of episodes, but it's highly likely that they will.

The show was never billed as a limited series, and given the fact that it ends on a cliffhanger, the plan is probably to keep making episodes. Creator Victor Fresco even hinted to Entertainment Weekly that he's already thinking of directions to take the story: "With any family, crazy situations can be introduced any day, and the strength of the family will determine how they react to those situations, which is where we'll find our characters."

If you recall, the streaming giant also waited a while to announce that mega-hit Stranger Things would get another season, so just be patient!

Monroe and Moroccan Cannon Outshine Their Famous Mom on the Red Carpet

Mariah Carey had the best dates to the LA premiere of The Lego Batman Movie on Saturday: her 5-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan. The doting mom held on to her little ones' hands as they made their way down the red carpet, where Monroe waved to photographers and Moroccan flashed his sweet smile. Before the premiere, Mariah shared an adorable Instagram snap of her and Monroe, and captioned it, "On our way to the #LEGOBatmanMovie premiere. See you soon! 😘❤🎬"

Earlier this week, Beyoncé announced that she and husband Jay Z are expecting twins, and if anyone knows what she's about to go through, it's Mariah. The "I Don't" singer reached out to congratulate Beyoncé in the comment section of her pregnancy announcement photo on Wednesday, writing, "Congrats Bey and Jay!!! I'm so happy for you both. Having twins is the most incredible experience ever! Love, Mariah and the twins."

Everything That Goes Down on Santa Clarita Diet Season 1

Netflix's new horror-comedy show, Santa Clarita Diet, is Desperate Housewives meets Dexter, with a little bit of The Walking Dead sprinkled in. The ten-episode season follows Sheila and Joel Hammond (Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant) - high school sweethearts who have gotten married, moved to the suburbs, started a family, and became residential realtors. Their domestic bliss comes to a screeching halt when Sheila suddenly starts craving human flesh. The Hammonds, their 16-year-old daughter, Abby (Liv Hewson), and teenage neighbor, Eric (Skyler Gisondo), go into overdrive trying to understand the new and improved, undead Sheila.

Their primary concern is determining Sheila's diet, which, unfortunately, coincides with the arrival of new realtor, Gary West (played by Nathan Fillion). Gary has an immediate attraction towards Sheila, who insists that she will remain faithful to her husband of over 20 years. Gary refuses to take no for an answer and purses her aggressively. Sheila has no choice but to put an end to his attempts, once and for all. She eats Gary, and the family buries what's left of him in the desert.

The Hammonds do their best to put the event behind them, but now, having tasted human flesh, Sheila's diet can consist of only one thing: people. Joel and Sheila decide to kill people so that she can eat - but only the people that deserve it. In a somewhat hilarious fashion, they hunt for their first victim. They choose a drug dealer, who falls easily into their trap. However, Joel bonds with him, and Sheila is forced to kill someone else impulsively. They manage to get away scot-free and vow to be more prepared next time. They purchase a freezer, weapons, and special outfits to wear on their next mission. The only thing they don't have is another victim.

Their neighbor, Sheriff Deputy Dan Palmer (played by Desperate Housewives alum, Ricardo Chavira), is a dirty cop who discovers one of Gary's fingers in the Hammond's backyard. He assumes that Joel murdered Gary for having an affair with Sheila, and uses this knowledge to blackmail him into killing a criminal who's alluded his grasp. Only wanting to kill criminals, Sheila thinks working as assassins for Dan would give her the perfect victim pool.

Joel and Sheila go to kill Loki, a known murderer, but things go awry and he gets away. To make matters worse, Sheila nips Loki in the scuffle, and he turns into a member of the undead, just like Sheila. When they find him again, he isn't the problem that they think he's going to be . . . he's worse. Since he and Sheila are the only two of their kind, he's convinced that they should be together. He tries to kill Joel, but the Hammonds take him down instead.

Meanwhile, Sheriff Dan tells Joel to kill someone else - only this time the victim isn't a criminal; he's the man having an affair with Dan's wife. When Joel finds out about the trick, he confronts Dan and kills him in anger (he doesn't eat him, just hits him over the head with a shovel). When Dan's absence is noticed, his cop colleagues become determined to find him, putting an unwelcome scrutiny on the Hammond residence. Sheila eats the evidence, putting them in the clear.

As things settle down again, Joel continues his search for a cure and connects with Dr. Cora Wolf (Portia de Rossi), a scientist who is familiar with the virus. She visits the Hammonds and tells them that while there is no way to revert Sheila back to her old self, there is a "cure" that will keep her from deteriorating and going feral - which has already begun to happen (Sheila's toe has fallen off and her eye continues to pop out of its socket).

Unfortunately, the cure requires pure Serbian bile (gross!), an ingredient that isn't easy to come by. Joel and Sheila visit the grandmother of their daughter's vice principal, who had first helped them translate the Serbian drawings. They get her drunk in hopes of her vomiting, but the police arrive, impeding their plan. Sheila escapes home, while Joel takes the fall for their trespassing and attempted assault.

As the series ends, Joel is unwillingly placed in a psychiatric hold. Sheila, now more feral and dangerous than ever, is chained in the basement hoping to escape. With both adults out of the picture, Abby and Eric must do whatever it takes to keep the family's secret and find a cure. However, their success is undetermined. We'll have to wait and see what happens in season two!

Whoa: This Harry Potter Theory Could've Changed the Series Completely

Get ready to breathe in and breathe out, Harry Potter fans - a recent theory is sparking up a conversation on the Internet on how the entire series could've changed. The single theory is based on one passage in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, involving the most underrated Hogwarts house - Slytherin.

The speculation, outlined by Tumblr user crazybutperfectlysane, discusses the idea of Cassius Warrington of Slytherin being chosen to compete in the Triwizard Tournament instead of Cedric Diggory. Both characters would still continue to help each other throughout the book up until the very end, when Voldermort still decides to kill Warrington. The user discusses the possibility that this might've united the Slytherins against Voldemort so they could have fought against him in the Battle of Hogwarts. Pretty crazy right? The entire post is below.

http://ift.tt/1HsD04B

However, the theory train didn't stop here. Another user, aplatonicjacuzzi, took it upon themselves to delve deeper into what Warrington's death would mean to Slytherin, Hogwarts, and Harry. This would include Slytherins realizing that pure bloods aren't safe from Voldemort, joining Dumbledore's Army, and eventually facing off against He Who Must Not Be Named at last. The rest of the imagined storyline is below.

http://ift.tt/1euLKun

These two posts are currently circling the Internet, even though both are two months old. It makes sense - it's serving up the right amount of fresh "what if?" options we always need every few months. We can't imagine how different the stories of all our favorite characters would be like or how Harry Potter could have had different kinds of support at Hogwarts. Guess that's all we can do now: wonder how and what could change the story we love and treasure so much.

You Won't Have a Pile of Dishes on Super Bowl Day Thanks to These 20 Finger Foods

Santa Clarita Diet: Is Drew Barrymore a Zombie or What?

Netflix's new series, Santa Clarita Diet, follows a suburban, married team of realtors, Sheila and Joel Hammond (played by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant), whose lives are turned upside down when Sheila wakes up one morning . . . undead. The change happens quite suddenly and the Hammond family, including daughter Abby (Liv Hewson), go to great lengths to figure out what Sheila is, how she became that way, and if there's a cure. They ask their nerdy, teenaged neighbor (Skyler Gisondo) for advice on all things supernatural and he lays down a few facts, however, most understanding of Sheila's condition comes from trial and error. At the end of the season, there are still many questions left unanswered about Sheila's zombie-like behavior, but here's what we know:

How It Starts

One morning, Sheila wakes up and goes about her day as usual. When drinking a smoothie, she begins to feel cramps in her stomach, but dismisses it. Later that day when showing a house with her husband, Sheila projectile vomits green fluid everywhere. We're talking the walls, the floor, the ceiling - every surface of the bathroom is covered. In the mess, her husband notices a small red ball. They question what it is - an organ? - but never find an answer.

The Symptoms

After the vomit debacle, Sheila begins to behave differently. Once a passive, meek, and responsible adult (who was kind of boring, TBH), Sheila now lives impulsively and uninhibited. She swears like a sailor, has an insatiable libido, is prone to fits of aggression, and is completely controlled by her id. She also has no heartbeat, doesn't bleed, and her body is filled with a black tar-like sludge.

What Does She Eat?

Among the other changes, Sheila's diet also alters. At first, she was satisfied with raw meat. If this had remained the case, the Hammonds could have lived a relatively normal life. However . . . this isn't the case. Once Sheila tastes human flesh, all other food repulse her and it becomes all she can eat. Her husband suggests many alternatives, including live, fresh meat (an annoying rooster, to be precise) and corpses, but it was all in vain. Once you go human, you don't go back.

The Cure

Sort of. The Hammonds do their best to live a normal life, all in the hopes that one day Sheila will return to her former self. Joel takes it upon himself to find a cure, and stumbles upon ancient, Serbian drawings in his research. The images closely resemble what happened to Sheila, so he pursues a connection aggressively. He comes across a scientist (played by Portia de Rossi) who promises a solution, more so than a cure, for the virus/disease. However, things take a turn for the worst before she can be of any real assistance.

Is She a "Zombie"?

The z-word isn't used explicitly. Their neighbor, Eric, argues that "zombie" is an "inherently negative" word. Throughout most of the season, Sheila is usually referred to as dead or undead. Yet, if it acts like a duck and sounds like a duck . . .

Good Luck Trying to Tell the Difference Between This La La Land Dance Tribute and the Original

With its stunning choreography and incredible singing, it's pretty clear why La La Land has been sweeping award season. Choreographers Carson Dean and Kausha Campbell paid tribute to the talented cast and crew earlier this week by recreating the "Lovely Night Dance" from the film, and yes, it's as amazing as it sounds. Not only do they completely nail the routine, but Carson and Kausha watched the film over a dozen times to make sure the dance was exactly like the one in the movie. Watch it above now.

Photographic Proof Gigi and Bella Hadid Share Clothes and Styling Tricks

In the Summer of 2016, we speculated that Gigi Hadid stole a lace crop top from her sister's closet. It wouldn't be far off - the supermodels do have similar figures and often the same taste in clothes. While Gigi's style veers on the sporty side and Bella's is a touch more sexy, there's plenty of overlap. That means there are a handful of pieces the girls have likely exchanged.

When Gigi and Bella stepped out in New York amidst protests of Trump's Muslim ban, Bella was sporting the striped flared pants Gigi wore days ago. And her cable-knit turtleneck, a sweater from Gigi's first Tommy Hilfiger collaboration, was one Gigi styled in the same way - pulled high over her chin to keep warm.

We love that when it comes to fashion, Gigi and Bella can transition seamlessly into each other's wardrobes. We're sure that helps when they're traveling from coast to coast and want to pack light. Scroll for photographic proof the duo work their street outfits in the same way (they're both even wearing Elizabeth and James sunglasses), then shop some of their essentials.

Why Ryan Gosling Is Going to Win the Best Actor Oscar This Year

The award season tides might just be changing. Every year, there are clear favorites for Oscars, made pretty obvious after the Critic's Choice, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards all get handed out. About a month ago, if you'd asked us (or really, any Oscars odds-makers), we would have said that Casey Affleck was going to sweep the whole season and pick up best actor statues all the way to the Oscars. But the season has been more interesting than most, and now, we'd like to put out a theory that now has a lot of steam: Ryan Gosling will win the best actor Oscar for La La Land.

Here's why we think he has a very strong shot.

Casey Affleck Lost the SAG Award

Denzel Washington won his first SAG Award for best actor for Fences this week, throwing our usual metric of "whoever gets the SAG Award, gets the Oscar" right off. As you can see, there's been very little variation on SAG winners who go on to win the Oscar in the best actor category, leaving room for some unpredictability at the Oscars. So, you say, why isn't this a story about why Washington is going to win the Oscar? Keep reading.

Gosling Won the Golden Globe

The Golden Globes split its best actor award into drama and musical/comedy, and of course, we watched Gosling take home the musical/comedy statue with a heartwarming speech. Affleck won the award for best actor in a drama that night, following his win in the same category at the Critics' Choice Awards. So far, Affleck still has the most best actor awards this season, but like we said, losing the SAG Award was a major hit to his momentum. And, for those keeping score at home, Washington has only won one major award this season so far.

Ryan Gosling Will Campaign

This is a major factor that we often forget about, unless you're an industry insider. As much as you'd like to think that Oscars go to the people who deserve them the most, for the best acting in the best film that year, that's just not what happens. There is an element of campaigning that nominees do to better their chances. We're not saying Gosling is going to go out and shake hands and hold babies, but his charm offensive has already begun. His Golden Globes speech about his family melted our collective hearts. His reaction to his Oscar nomination was the perfect amount of humble. He's America's boyfriend.

Contrast that with Affleck, who has been dogged by disturbing sexual assault allegations, which, prior to the SAG Awards, hadn't seemed to affect his award season streak. Given that SAG Awards are voted on by actors, and his fellow actors had already begun speaking out against Affleck's recognition, it could be possible that that was a factor in his loss. Whether the Academy will feel the same way is yet to be seen. Adding another black mark to Affleck's chances: his roasting of the same people who honored him at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in early January. Funny, sure, but it didn't make him look grateful.

La La Land Is the Still the Award Season Favorite

Though La La Land was only honored once at the SAG Awards for Emma Stone's performance, it's still the most celebrated film of award season, having broken records for Golden Globe wins and tied records for Oscar nominations. Who's to say if La La Land is Gosling's best work yet, but he pulls his weight while arguably showing more range of talent than other nominees in that he's singing, dancing, playing the piano, and comedically and dramatically delivering. The movie should go on to win in most major categories on Oscar night, and one of those categories is very likely to be best actor.

This Imaginative Game of Thrones Theory Explains How Jon Snow Will Discover the Truth About His Parents

Spoilers for season six below!

Game of Thrones has a way of letting viewers get the tiniest bit comfortable before completely ripping the rug out from underneath them - and because we've grown so confident in our assumptions about Jon Snow's origins and how he'll find out about his parents (likely from Bran, who discovers the truth after warging back to the Tower of Joy in the season six finale), it would come as no surprise if the show decided to totally shatter our expectations.

An imaginative Redditor felt the same way, and came up with an interesting alternative to Bran filling Jon in on the secret. In a long, detailed explanation that provides 18 separate citations (including both proof within the series and iconic fantasy tropes that likely inspired the show's creators), Reddit user jamieandclaire theorizes that Jon will learn the truth when exploring the Stark family crypt after retaking Winterfell. We know now that it didn't happen this way in the finale, but as crazy as it sounds, there's still a chance that it might occur in season seven.

To start, the theory purports that Ned Stark, wanting to honor his sister Lyanna's memory without endangering her half-Targaryen son (Jon), had a tomb built for Jon within the Winterfell crypts. It is a Stark tradition to prepare these graves far in advance, and the crypt is huge - there are multiple levels, one of which was blocked off to regular visitors by rubble. Here's how the Redditor suggests the revelation would go down:

Jon, upon retaking Winterfell, decides to go down into the crypts to visit Eddard's grave, but finds that Ned's bones haven't come to Winterfell yet. He instead passes by the future resting places of his siblings . . .

He stops for a moment, sad with the new knowledge that there is no life everlasting for him or his siblings. Then, remembering his nightmares [about the crypt] (or perhaps finding some clue in Ned's empty grave), he continues down to the lower levels of the crypt in the growing darkness.

His finds his way is blocked by rocks and rubble from the collapse. He considers going back, but something catches his eye beyond the obstruction. He begins pulling at stones, and sees another tomb, prepared and empty.

Clambering over the debris, he walks to the tomb and holds out the torch in the darkness, wiping away the dust from the slab. And this is what he reads.

View post on imgur.com

While much of this theory is sound, some of the most convincing points actually come from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, not the HBO show. Here are some of our favorite indications that Jon might learn his own story among the dead of Winterfell.

  • Jon Snow has dreams that bring him to the depths of Winterfell's crypt: "And then I find myself in front of the door to the crypts. It's black inside, and I can see the steps spiraling down. Somehow I know I have to go down there, but I don't want to. I'm afraid of what might be waiting for me," Jon describes in the first book. Additionally, the Redditor notes that "when Ned is killed, Bran and Rickon both dream of him in the crypts, sad, saying something about Jon."
  • Parallels between Bael the Bard's tale and the R+L=J theory: The story of Bael the Bard comes up multiple times in the series. Bael, the king beyond the Wall far before Jon's time, infiltrated Winterfell disguised as a singer and wooed Lord Stark's daughter. He "stole her away" (much like Rhaegar Targaryen is accused of doing to Lyanna Stark) in the middle of the night, leaving a blue Winter rose (Lyanna's favorite flower) in her bed. Many months later, the daughter returned with a baby of her own - she had never left Winterfell, simply hidden in the crypt. That son, the bastard of Bael the Bard, went on to rule the North. Can you see the connection between this lore and the theory about Jon's parentage? And it all comes back to one place: the crypt of Winterfell.
  • Foreshadowing from ancient Targaryen lore: Another story repeated in the series, points out the Redditor's theory, is that of Vermax the Targaryen dragon. Vermax supposedly laid eggs in the Winterfell crypt during a visit from Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, creating a theme of Targaryens/dragons being hidden in Winterfell's hall of the dead.
  • Ned Stark could totally have prepared Jon's grave in secret: Because the lower level of the crypt is blocked off by rubble, none of the Stark children or visitors would stray into the closed-off parts . . . plus, Ned Stark could have commissioned a stonemason to design the tomb without anybody finding out. Tyrion mentions in season two that stonemasons typically can't read - "He was a well-read stonemason? Can't say I've ever met a literate stonemason!" - which means that the words inscribed on the tomb would reveal nothing to the tradesman who carved them.
  • This theme would honor the fantasy tradition of Lancelot: The story of Lancelot (orphaned as a baby only to become one of Arthur's knights) is arguably one of the most famous in fantasy lore, time and again inspiring authors and filmmakers. "Sir Lancelot . . . conquers a keep called the Dolorous Gard where Queen Guinevere is being held. He renames it the Joyous Gard. In the graveyard is a tomb covered by a giant jeweled metal slab, engraved to indicate that only the man who conquers the keep will be able to lift it. He lifts the tomb's slab with ease, and beneath it is written 'Here will lie Lancelot of the Lake, the Son of King Ban.' He thus learns he is a prince inside a grave," the Redditor wrote. The similarities between Jon's storyline and Sir Lancelot's - including the variations of a "tower of joy" where a woman is being held hostage - could be a huge clue that this theory is accurate.

So, do you buy this insanely detailed theory? To be honest, we're fairly convinced. While only time will tell if Jon discovers his own truth in Winterfell's burial place next season, we'd be totally on board if it ended up happening this way in the show, the books, or both.

The Santa Clarita Diet Has a Broad City Crossover Moment We Didn't See Coming

Santa Clarita Diet premiered on Netflix this weekend, and the campy comedy is not only funny (albeit a little gross), but also stars some pretty solid guest stars. The second episode of the series - titled "We Can't Kill People!" - features a cameo from Broad City actor John Gemberling, who you'll recognize as Abbi Abrams's mooch of a psuedo-roommate, Matt Bevers (technically, Bevers is the boyfriend of Abbi's real roommate, who we never see).

On Santa Clarita Diet, Gemberling plays Bunchen, the manager of a comic book store where Sheila (Drew Barrymore)'s daughter Abby (Liv Hewson) visits after ditching school with her next-door neighbor Eric (played by Skyler Gisondo). After repeatedly telling Abby and Eric that they can only read each comic for 30 seconds without buying it, Bunchen flips out and walks over to them, saying, "Thirty seconds, Abby's friend," to which Abby yells, "Abby. My name is Abby!" He then gives a nod to his Broad City costar by taking a beat before screaming, "Oh, Abby! Well that changes everything!" It's a subtlety that may only be noticed by Broad City fans, but as Abbi Abrams would say. . .

That HUGE The Vampire Diaries Twist Was a Complete Game Changer

For the past eight seasons, The Vampire Diaries has been full of twists, but Friday night's episode might have been the most shocking. As Cade manages to make his way to Mystic Falls, all hell breaks lose (pun intended). To up the ante with his servants, Stefan and Damon, he gives them an ultimatum: kill your brother's girl or kill 100 strangers. The choice seems pretty simple for Damon as he would never break up Steroline, but unfortunately for humanity-less Stefan, that isn't the case. Yes, that's right, Stefan is going to kill Elena! Unwillingly, Bonnie agrees to help Damon and the rest of the gang kill the devil by taking a vile of Elena's blood so that they can inject him with the cure. It sounds like a safe-proof plan, but just you wait.

While Damon thinks Elena's coffin is still tucked away in a warehouse in Brooklyn, Stefan knows better - or perhaps Cade does. After running into Bonnie in Mystic Falls, he casually reads her mind and finds out that Bonnie actually moved Elena to a safe house in upstate New York. Smart of Bonnie, bad for Damon. Stefan proceeds to transfer ownership of Bonnie's house to someone else so that they can invite him in, all while Bonnie and Enzo dream about how they'll one day live there together as humans. Once Enzo is thrown out of the house, because he hasn't been invited in, the two know something is up. Bonnie quickly grabs a vile of Elena's blood, but when she returns to the door, it's too late. Stefan rips out Enzo heart and casually walks into the house to finish off Bonnie.

The two wrestle with each other, before Bonnie makes a life-altering decision . . . literally. She gives Stefan the cure! (Not to brag, but we totally called this.) After Stefan passes out on the floor, Bonnie runs outside to find the love of her completely desiccated on the front porch. Overcome with grief and anger, Bonnie lets out a bloodcurdling scream so powerful, it actually creates a force around her - kind of like when Cade created hell. Wait, did Bonnie just get her magic back, or was that something entirely different? Is the reason she's been so affected by the Maxwell bell, because she's actually a descendant of Cade? Oh, this is about to get good.

What Life Was Like Before Cell Phones

Most of us have carried a cell phone around for more than 13 years, so it's hard to remember going through life without one. But there was a time when we all used to memorize our best friends' phone numbers and use a pay phone. While today's kids can't even fathom the idea of not having the latest smartphone, we relish reminiscing about the golden days. Ahead, take a look back at the lives we led with only landlines.

  1. Waiting by the door for your friend when she said she would pick you up at a certain time.
  2. Planning a time for your crush to call you late at night and picking up on the first ring so your parents wouldn't catch you.
  3. Checking the answering machine to see if anyone left any messages while you were out.
  4. Begging your parents for a second phone line so you could talk for hours to your friends.
  5. Taking photos on disposable cameras and getting superexcited to develop them.
  6. Honking when you arrived at someone's house to pick them up.
  7. Looking up directions on MapQuest, printing them out, and deleting your history so your parents didn't know where you were going.
  8. Calling your crush using *67 and saving *69 for when you received prank calls.

  9. Only making long-distance calls after 5 p.m. or on Sunday nights because of reduced rates.
  10. Using a calling card.
  11. Calling 411 or using a phone book to look up businesses.
  12. Writing your home phone number in friends' yearbooks and playing phone tag all Summer.
  13. Actually meaning it when you wrote "don't ever change" in your yearbook (because you didn't have the Facebook app and had no idea what people were up to during the Summer).
  14. Annoying your friends' parents by talking to them on the house phone 24/7.
  15. Dealing with immense boredom when you had to wait anywhere, especially at the doctor's office.
  16. Getting tangled up in the phone cord when talking to your friends on the landline.
  17. Actually having to commit to plans because you couldn't last-minute flake over a text.
  18. Passing notes instead of Snapchats.

  19. Feeling embarrassed when your parents were late to pick you up from carpool and you didn't have any way of calling them to find out where they were.
  20. Using a pay phone on the regular when you were out and needed to make a call (and never forgetting to leave your house without a handful of quarters).
  21. Memorizing the most important digits - mom, dad, BFF, Pizza Hut.
  22. Trying to come up with hilarious songs and jokes to leave as your family answering machine greeting.
  23. Getting to know your friends' and significant other's parents because they always picked up first and asked you all sorts of questions.
  24. Hailing cabs.
  25. Scheduling specific times to call relatives.
  26. Having no clue what your friends were up to at any given moment.
  27. Getting cut off from a three-way or group call if the person who started it hung up.

  28. Having to page your mom the number to a pay phone at the mall so she could call and figure out where to pick you up.
  29. Getting in trouble for "tying up" the phone line.
  30. Hearing someone pick up an extension to spy or tell you to get off the phone.
  31. Becoming annoyed whenever you heard a call-waiting beep.
  32. Asking permission to go online so you wouldn't block the phone line or getting kicked offline because someone called.
  33. Using a newspaper to figure out movie times or picking one when you got there.
  34. Having serious FOMO when you were on family vacation because you had no idea what your friends were doing.

Sure, we now have fun and faster ways to communicate, but nothing will beat growing up with a regular telephone!

7 Ways Your Pup Makes You a Healthier, Happier Human

You swear you can feel your stress level go down when you pet your pup, right? And you're pretty convinced your heart rate goes down when your dog is by your side. Well it's not all in your head; science actually proves what we pet parents have known forever: that having a dog is actually good for your health (like really, really good for you). Here are a few research-backed studies that prove our pups are just what the doctor ordered.

1. They lift your mood

Sad? Step away from the ice cream. Researchers from the University of Missouri-Columbia found that petting your dog releases feel-good hormones; the study revealed that serotonin, the chemical that maintains mood balance, increases when a human interacts with their dog (vs. one they don't know.) It only takes a few minutes of petting to release those hormones, so start snuggling now.

2. They increase bonding feelings

Those warm and fuzzies you get when you stare into your pup's eyes are no joke. A study published in Hormones and Behavior found that owners and dogs who shared a long mutual gaze had higher levels of oxytocin (aka the cuddle hormone) in their urine than owners of dogs giving a shorter gaze. And yes, it's the same hormone that's triggered when you hold your baby. No wonder some humans call pups "fur babies."

3. They reduce heart disease risk

It's not all warm and fuzzies, though - dogs can potentially help extend your life (and definitely improve your health). Researchers from Melbourne, Australia, found that pet owners have lower levels of blood pressure and cholesterol than non-pet owners, regardless of their smoking habits, diet, or body mass index. Dog ownership in particular may help reduce cardiovascular risk because of all the physical activity that comes along with walks and games of fetch.

4. They keep you in shape

Speaking of physical activity, a study conducted by University of Missouri researchers found that dog walkers improved their fitness more than humans who walked with other people. Perhaps that's why dog owners are 34 percent more likely than nonowners to reach their fitness goals, according to another study published in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. If that's not motivation to walk your pup for longer, what is?!

5. They reduce your stress level

Duh, right? But pups may be more relaxing than your SO. A study published in Psychosomatic Medicine showed that when people had to do a stressful task, they experienced the lowest stress response and the quickest recovery when they did it with their pet, as compared to alone, with their spouse, or a friend. Why? Research believes it's because pups are a nonjudgmental companion (compared to some other humans we know).

6. They help fight pain

Not just any old paper cut, either. According to a study published in Pain Med, 34 percent of patients suffering from fibromyalgia reported pain relief along with less fatigue and a better mood after spending just 10 to 15 minutes with a therapy dogs, compared with those who sat in a waiting room. In a different study the following year by Loyola researchers, 28 percent of patients who had total joint replacement surgery needed fewer pain medications because they had daily visits from a therapy dog compared with those who didn't receive any puppy love.

7. They make you more social

Being a "dog person" can make you more of a people person too. Researchers at the University of Chicago found that having a pup made people feel less isolated and lonely, while other pets didn't have the same effect. Perhaps it's all those hours we log at the dog parks. Or maybe because we feel compelled to at the least say hi to the human whose pup's butt ours is sniffing.

The best way to repay your pup for all those healthy benefits? Feed them a fresh, all-natural diet like Ollie that has real health benefits for them.

8 Beauty and the Beast Adaptations to Watch Before the New Movie

Over the past few years, Disney has transformed some of our favorite animated classics into live-action blockbusters. After the success of films such as Cinderella, Alice Through the Looking Glass, and The Jungle Book, Disney has set their sights on Beauty and the Beast. The remake, which will be released on March 17, features a star-studded cast including Emma Watson, Kevin Kline, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McKellen, and Josh Gad. Furthermore, the soundtrack will include a duet by John Legend and Ariana Grande and an original song by Celine Dion. While the film will no doubt be magical, this isn't the first time that the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale has been adapted. Read our list of other onscreen versions you may want to check out!

Viola Davis Prayed For a Husband and Was Blessed With a Real Winner

Viola Davis took home the SAG Award for best supporting actress on Sunday night, and the phenomenal Fences and How to Get Away With Murder star had her biggest fan by her side: her husband, Julius Tennon. Viola and Julius, a theater veteran and TV actor, met on the set of City of Angels in 1999, just weeks after Viola prayed for a husband. "I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, 'You should just pray for a husband,'" she told Page Six. "I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before. Three and a half weeks later, I met my husband." The couple tied the knot in 2003 and recently renewed their vows with a star-studded second wedding ceremony; they share a daughter, Genesis, who they adopted as a newborn in 2011, as well as Julius's two sons from a previous relationship.

They have quickly become one of our favorite Hollywood couples to watch. The way Julius looks at Viola warms our hearts, and they seem to not just love each other to pieces, but really respect and value each other, too. They also dial their red carpet appearances up a notch by color-coordinating their outfits, which is just adorable. So far in 2017, Viola has made history by becoming the first black actress to be nominated for three Oscars and the first black actress to win five SAG Awards. But Julius, while obviously thrilled for his wife, is no slouch; he was admitted to the University of Tulsa on a full football scholarship and the first African American to graduate from its theater department. He's also starred on the small screen in Criminal Minds and ER and works with Viola as a copartner on their production company, JuVee Productions. We're taking a look at the cutest photos from Julius and Viola's 16-year relationship - look through to see them all now (seriously, how cute are their matching outfits?).

La La Land: Is That Really Ryan Gosling Playing the Piano?!

La La Land is the most enchanting movie of 2016, but besides the singing and dancing, one particular element will dazzle you: Ryan Gosling's piano skills. He plays a struggling jazz purist in the film, and there are some musical scenes that may cause you to wonder if it's really Gosling playing or a body double. Shocking as it may be, it's definitely Gosling playing the whole time!

"In fact, there's not a single close-up shot of [the character] Sebastian's hands in the entire movie that's a piano double," director Damien Chazelle said at a press event for the movie. "It's all Ryan." Even John Legend, who has a smaller part in the film, was impressed: "I was jealous, man," he said. "Watching him play, I was like, 'Wow, this guy is really good and he just learned this in the last few months.' It's pretty amazing."

According to Gosling, it took him three months of lessons to learn to play jazz piano: "The director wanted to shoot all those sequences in one take so there was no opportunity to squeeze in, or sneak in, a proper piano player." How is one person this talented?

The Real Scandal Is How Amazing Kerry Washington Has Always Looked

Kerry Washington has been on our radar since the early 2000s, when she graced the screen as single mom Chenille in Save the Last Dance (such a classic). Since then, she's starred in critically acclaimed films like Ray, For Colored Girls, and Django Unchained and has us completely captivated with her role as Olivia Pope on the ABC hit show Scandal, for which she's received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Off screen, Kerry's life has been pretty golden as well; she and husband Nnamdi Asomugha welcomed their daughter Isabelle in April 2014, and became parents again when their son Caleb was born in October 2016.

Like the rest of us, Kerry fell victim to some of the more unfortunate fashion trends in the 2000s - like denim maxi skirts, woven belts, and skinny scarves - but she's clearly come out on the other side. In addition to her fashion prowess, Kerry has a megawatt smile, a killer sense of humor, and an inspiring dedication to politics and the arts. Read through for photos of Kerry's Hollywood evolution.
