Are you noticing flaxseeds added to just about everything these days? It's for good reason - they're insanely healthy - but do you know why? Check out the reasons you should be eating flaxseeds (if you're not already).
- Walnuts and fish are excellent sources of omega-3s, but so are flaxseeds. The recommended daily intake (RDI) of omega-3s is around one gram a day, and one tablespoon of flaxseed offers 2.3 grams (one tablespoon of flaxmeal offers 1.6 grams).
- The omega-3s in flaxseed can help reduce inflammation that leads to conditions such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine headaches, and osteoporosis.
- Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is one kind of omega-3 fatty acid that is found in flaxseeds, and this fat helps promote bone health.
- Flaxseed is known to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, and it may lower blood pressure - all essential elements to having a healthy heart.
- Whole flaxseed is a great source of fiber. One tablespoon contains three grams of fiber, which can aid in digestion, help prevent constipation, and aid in weight loss.
- Lignans, the fiber found in flaxseed, promotes regular digestion and are thought to have a role in breast cancer prevention.
Here are some creative tips on how you can get more flax into your diet.
- Sprinkle seeds or ground flaxseed on your cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, salad, or sandwiches.
- Add flaxseed to your recipes. They make the perfect high-fiber egg replacer - one tablespoon flaxmeal mixed with three tablespoons water equals one egg. Try it in these gingerbread "buttermilk" pancakes or this protein-packed banana bread.
- Add flaxmeal or flaxseeds to your blender when making your breakfast smoothie - the healthy fats and fiber will keep you feeling full longer.
- Look for products that have added flax such as cereal, bread, and crackers.

Muslim-American Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad Says She Was Recently Held at US Customs
Fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad made history in the 2016 Olympics as the first female Muslim-American to medal for the United States and the first American to compete in the Games wearing a hijab. But the athlete - who is an outspoken advocate for equality across gender, color, and religion - says her success doesn't insulate her from the struggles and discrimination that Muslims-Americans face.
Muhammad took the stage at the MAKERS conference on Tuesday afternoon. There, she joined gymnast Gabby Douglas for a chat with blogger Luvvie Ajayi about empowerment, representation, and athleticism. In an interview with POPSUGAR just a few moments after that conversation, Muhammad spoke out about Trump's travel ban. The executive order blocked thousands of refugees, immigrants, and visitors from seven predominately Muslim countries from entering the United States before it was struck down by a judge many days later. Muhammad revealed that she recently was "disheartened" and tearful to find herself detained at US Customs without explanation. She also weighed in on how Americans can be a better allies to the Muslim-American community during this uncertain time.
POPSUGAR: Do you know anyone who was directly impacted by Trump's travel ban?
Ibtihaj Muhammad: Well, I personally was held at customs for two hours just a few weeks ago. I don't know why. I can't tell you why it happened to me, but I know that I'm Muslim. I have an Arabic name. And even though I represent Team USA, and I have that Olympic hardware, it doesn't change how you look and how people perceive you. Unfortunately, I know that people talk about this having a lot to do with these seven countries in particular, but I think the net is cast a little bit wider than we know. And I'm included in that as a Muslim woman who wears a hijab.
POPSUGAR: That must have been a scary moment for you.
IM: It's really hard. My human response is to cry because I was so sad, and upset, and disheartened - and just disappointed. At the same time, I'm one of those people who feels like I have to be strong for those people who may not be able to find that strength. I feel like I have to speak up for those people whose voices go unheard. It was a really hard two hours, but at the same time, I made it home. I try to remember to be positive and to try leave all these situations, even they may be very difficult, with love. I think that we will come out on top as women, as people of color, as Muslims, as transgender people, as people who are part of the disabled community - I think that we'll come out on top.
POPSUGAR: If you were able to tell Donald Trump one thing, what would it be?
IM: If I could say one thing to Donald Trump, what would it be? I feel like that's a loaded question. I'm not really sure how to answer that. It's like, where do I start?
POPSUGAR: I think there are many people out there who want to know how they can be allies to the Muslim community. What advice would you give to them?
IM: I think that when we stand in solidarity we'll be stronger. For those people who fail to see the injustices that are occurring, in particular with the Muslim community, I think it's because you've sat in a seat of privilege for a long time, and you kind of choose to be myopic and not think of those people around you. This is a moment where we choose the moral high ground and we think of each other as brothers and sisters and speak up for those who may not be able to. How can you immediately help? I would say by donating to organizations like the ACLU, who can fight the ban and in real ways, can help Muslims in this moment.
POPSUGAR: There are so many incredible women at the MAKERS conference. Is there anyone you kind of geeked out over meeting?
IM: I heard Octavia Spencer yesterday. She's such a talented speaker. I actually went to go see her movie last night, Hidden Figures, just in case I ran into her today. I think Muslims in particular are facing similar obstacles African-Americans did, historically. I think it was a good time to see Hidden Figures. Just to remind myself how resilient we can be as human beings. Even if we're facing bigotry or racism, we can still be successful.

The latest season of The Bachelor is on now, and and we've been getting to know the ladies competing for Nick Viall's heart. While the contestants usually have some unique job titles, there are actually quite a few established career women this go around. One in particular, however, is business owner Corinne Olympios. Even though she doesn't specify what type of business she manages on the show, Romper discovered a company called Armor Garage, which supplies epoxy coatings and flooring products to the U.S. military, Fortune 500 companies, shops, and home owners. It's run by James Olympios, who may have a relative named Corinne, who may or may not be the Bachelor star.
Running her parents' multimillion-dollar company isn't her only occupation. The 24-year-old also has profiles up on ExploreTalent and Model Mayhem. On ExploreTalent, she details her past experience in modeling, acting, and singing, calling it her "dream," while her Model Mayhem profile echoes that same zealous attitude, adding that she is willing to "do whatever it takes to fulfill my dreams and goals." If the previews are any indication, The Bachelor is already painting Corinne as the Chad of this season, so we guess only time will tell if she's doing the show for "the right reasons."
A Useful Hack For Making Raw Cookie Dough Safe to Eat
Edible cookie dough made without raw eggs is safe to eat, right? It turns out the flour is just as bad a culprit as the eggs, meaning edible cookie dough is not as safe as you thought. The reason is that raw flour "regardless of the brand, can contain bacteria that cause disease," according to the FDA. Flour can potentially cause E. coli contamination, as was the case with the General Mills flour recall of 2016, which resulted in more than 40 cases of contracted E. coli. The New York Times found similar results after investigating a 2009 E. coli breakout that was traced to raw flour. The study "found that the culprit in this case was likely not eggs, but flour."
The good news is you can still indulge in your cookie-dough cravings - but you should be careful about making the flour safe to eat. In a recipe for Not-So-Raw Cookie Dough from Sprinkle Some Fun, the blogger suggests a quick hack of microwaving the flour until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F. That way, you've eliminated the risk of eating any unwanted bacteria that could be lingering in the flour sitting in your pantry.

OMG, Star Wars Land Has an Official Opening Date
It's official: Star Wars Land at both Disneyland and Hollywood Studios are opening in 2019. The company confirmed the news in an earnings call.

Well, that didn't take long. After discovering the existence of Sean Spicer's Venmo account, the internet quickly found Kellyanne Conway's account as well and immediately started to troll it.
Conway's account was originally found by Bowen Yang, a comedian, and Janie Stolar, a comedy writer, who both tweeted a screenshot of their requests to Conway.

Lady Gaga is unstoppable! The superstar is launching her own wine label called Grigio Girls, proving she's got even more talent up her sleeves. Senior pictures, a unique and personalized tradition for many high school students, have plenty of common themes. A fairly popular theme usually involves an edgy urban setting featuring a lot of graffiti. One senior, however, recently realized how posing in front of graffiti could backfire.
Upon reviewing her senior pictures, Alexis Boatfield noticed something she hadn't before: a cartoonish graffiti penis drawn right above her head. On Twitter, Alexis Boatfield wrote, "Oh so no one was gonna tell me there was a big ass penis behind my head for my senior pictures?"

Following her hilarious realization, countless others shared their insanely similar experiences. For example, someone noticed a sticker with the word "porno" on it lurking in the background of her senior picture. Someone else accidentally placed her hand on a graffiti penis while just trying to casually pose. Other pictures, like the one shown below, were more tragic.

In a sweet photo posted to Imgur, one dad just destroyed our emotions in an absolutely precious double whammy. Not only does he encourage other dads everywhere to be a "dream husband" for their wives, but this snap, which shows his newborn son snuggled up with him and his sleeping wife, captures an unforgettable moment for the family. "After winning a battle with testicular cancer last year we finally got our first born son," he started his caption. He goes on to say, "Real men take care of their baby while mommy takes as many naps as she needs."
This photo is just another example of dads taking more photos of moms and their babies. In a recent Instagram post, the mom behind The Young Mummy put out an open call to all dads to take photos any time there's a sweet candid moment between mom and child. "So whenever you see one of us with our babies, a beautiful candid moment, take the bloody god d*mn photo," she wrote in the caption.

Madonna Adopts 4-Year-Old Twin Girls From Malawi
Madonna is expanding her family! The singer has adopted 4-year-old twin girls from Malawi, People reports. Malawi's judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula confirmed the adoption order telling the publication that Madonna appeared in court on Tuesday along with the kids, their father, and their uncle. The spokesperson also revealed that the girls' mother "died a week after she delivered the babies" and they were later "looked after by their grandmother, who could not fully provide for them, so they were taken into an orphanage."
Madonna reportedly "exuded happiness" and "smiled while she was making her way out of the courtroom, and then she drove away" with her new daughters. The pop icon is already mom to four kids, 20-year-old Lourdes and 16-year-old Rocco, whom she has from previous relationships, and 11 years old David and Mercy, whom she also adopted from Malawi.
What President Trump Eats Every Day - and Why This Nutritionist Has Her Concerns

During a prepresidency interview with CNN, Donald Trump opened up about his predilection for fast food. He said, "I'm a very clean person. I like cleanliness, and I think you're better off going there than maybe someplace that you have no idea where the food's coming from. It's a certain standard." One nutritionist, however, recently shared her concerns about the president's poorly balanced diet.
Jo Travers is an esteemed nutritionist and the author of The Low Fad Diet. She recently assessed Trump's everyday diet in an interview with The Guardian, and it was pretty eye-opening.
For starters, Trump isn't a big breakfast fan and he's reportedly said, "My big thing is dinner." If he absolutely must have breakfast, he opts for bacon, eggs, or cornflakes. Travers strongly advised against the consumption of bacon. She said, "It's a processed pork product, which has been linked with cancer, so his risk of developing the disease will go up." Given that his usual breakfast is so protein-heavy, Travers recommended a better balance of protein and carbs.
The president has also spoken about his love of meatloaf. He once prepared meatloaf with Martha Stewart and said he often likes to eat meatloaf sandwiches. Travers said meatloaf sandwiches are just fine if prepared with whole-wheat bread. She did, however, bemoan the lack of vegetables or fruit: "Meatloaf is essentially just meat. There's no roughage. And no fibre impacts on gut health. If you don't feed your gut bacteria with fruit and vegetables, that can impact the immune system and lead to infections."
Then there's Trump's commitment to fast-food purveyors like McDonald's and KFC. Following his win during the primary election, Trump celebrated with McDonald's signature Big Mac and fries. Later that Summer, he shared a picture of himself eating fried chicken on his private plane. Albeit delicious, these aren't the healthiest choices. Travers noted these meals are packed with trans fats and linked to heart disease.

In addition to its physical effects, Trump's heavy diet may have mental and emotional implications, as well, specifically due to the lack of healthy fats and omega-3s. "His body will substitute with other types of fats, which are less fluid, making it harder for neuro transmitters to get through," Travers said, adding, "This is linked to mood disorders."
Much like his policies, the president's diet is vastly different than that of Barack Obama, whose main late-night snack was once described as being "seven lightly salted almonds."
