Tom Hiddleston Finally Opens Up About His Romance With Taylor Swift: She's "Amazing"

Tom Hiddleston is finally opening up about his whirlwind (and short-lived) romance with Taylor Swift, and we're eating it up. In the latest issue of GQ, the English actor opens up about everything from that infamous "I [heart] T.S." tank top to whether or not their relationship was actually for publicity. "Of course it was real," he says. "Taylor is an amazing woman. She's generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time." The pair certainly caused a fan frenzy when they were first spotted kissing near the beach last June, especially since Taylor had just broken up with her longtime boyfriend Calvin Harris, but Tom insists they were both just two people looking for a regular relationship. "So we decided to go out for dinner, we decided to travel."

And travel they did. Not only did the two partake in some romantic dates around the world, but Tom quickly became an honorary member of Taylor's squad. He even joined in on her iconic Fourth of July bash, where he was spotted wearing that fateful tank top that will live on in infamy. So why exactly did he decide to make such a bold fashion statement? After hurting his back during a game, he claims he wanted to protect his graze from the sun and borrowed a tank top - the tank top - from one of Taylor's friends. "It was a joke," he said. "Among friends."

Even though their relationship came to a close shortly after, Tom admits he doesn't regret a thing. "I only know the woman I met. She's incredible," he adds. "A relationship in the limelight . . . A relationship always takes work. And it's not just the limelight. It's everything else." Even though he's still trying to figure out how to have a personal life without hiding it, he hasn't given up on finding love. "You can't live in fear of what people might say," he says. "You know, you have to be true to yourself . . . I'm not going to live my life in hiding."

People All Over the World Are Freaking Out About Louis Vuitton's New Collaboration

When a designer debuts a new runway collection, you can bet on pieces that fall in line with the fashion house and reflect its core or signature aesthetic. But when a label like Louis Vuitton drops a collaboration with a streetwear brand like Supreme, the items will become iconic. Men's artistic director Kim Jones unveiled the New York-influenced line during his Fall 2017 show in Paris.

"You can't have the conversation of New York menswear without Supreme right now, because it's such a massive global phenomenon. I used to work when I was at college unpacking boxes of Supreme at a company in London that distributed it when it was just starting out, so it's something I've known all along in my life. I just feel that the strength of their graphic versus the strength of the Louis Vuitton graphic, and that kind of Pop Art feeling - it works together perfectly," Jones told WWD.

Show attendees and both companies shared the goods on Instagram, leaving us lusting over sneakers, varsity jackets, embroidered denim, duffel bags, phone cases, and tees emblazoned with both iconic logos. Scroll for all the designs that are already at the top of our want lists.

The Heartbreaking Way This Teacher Discovered 5 Students' Biggest Secrets

When Elle Deal decided to try a new exercise with her fifth grade students, the Friday activity turned into something incredibly heartbreaking.

The elementary school teacher asked her kids to write a short blurb, titled, "I wish my teacher would know . . . " and their answers left a major impact on her. Elle shared a few of the heartbreaking (and anonymous) statements on Facebook as a reminder to everyone to "leave this life a little better than how we found it."

"Kid 1: I wish my teacher would know, my dad is in jail and I haven't seen him in years.
Kid 2: I wish my teacher would know, I don't always eat dinner because my mom works and I don't know how to work the stove.
Kid 3: I wish my teacher would know, my sister sleeps in the same bed as me and sometimes she wets the bed and that's why I smell funny.
Kid 4: I wish my teacher would know that I don't always have sneakers for gym class because my brothers and I share one pair.
Kid 5: I wish my teacher would know I like coming to school because it's quiet here, not like my house with all the yelling."

This simple activity reinforced Elle's desire to spend her life hopefully making a difference for others. "We spend so much time talking and judging what we think we know . . . we need to ask more questions and spend more time listening," she wrote. "We also need to shift our mindset and see things from other people's perspective, give more than we get, and live to serve."

Everything We Know So Far About the Nicole Guerriero x Anastasia Beverly Hills Collaboration

Update: After weeks of speculation, the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero product has been revealed, and it's exactly what we'd hoped it'd be: a Glow Kit! The packaging for the upcoming launch was teased on both the brand's official Instagram and Nicole's feed. The pastel pink component features tiny sparkles and a gorgeous holographic finish on its text.

The size of the compact is similar to that of the Moonchild and Holiday Glow Kits, so we're anticipating six shimmery highlighters will be inside. Considering Nicole has been wearing a lot of illuminator in her recent shots, we can only assume that a few of the images feature her new product.

While we don't have a specific date yet, the brand disclosed that the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit will launch on its website and at Sephora in March. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.

Original story: The team behind Anastasia Beverly Hills always has an exciting launch in the works (recent incredible products include the Holiday Glow Kit, the Makeup by Mario palette, and a full range of brushes). Claudia, the brand's president, just revealed an upcoming collaboration: a partnership with beauty influencer Nicole Guerriero.

Nicole, who has nearly two million Instagram followers and almost three million subscribers to her YouTube channel, shared a behind-the-scenes video from the campaign. "I can't wait for you babies to see the goods," she gushed to her fans.

While it's unclear right now when the "goods" will launch or what they will consist of, our guess is that the color pink and some serious sparkle will be involved (just look at Nicole's hair and outfit!). It's also possible that it will launch very soon, as Nicole's outfit looks Winter-weather friendly.

This Is How All Your Favorite Chefs Cook Steak

Steak is one of those things that intimidates a lot of people but really shouldn't. If you've ever struggled with cooking the perfect steak, this list of tips should help. We've turned to some of our favorite Food Network personalities and more celebrity chefs for their steakhouse-worthy cooking methods.

Alton Brown: Pan-Seared and Oven-Baked

For pan-seared rib eyes, Alton Brown recommends two key things: bring the steak to room temperature (it cooks quicker this way), and heat a cast-iron skillet in the oven while the oven heats to 500 degrees. He doesn't use the oven until the steaks have been seared first, but heating up the skillet before putting it on the stove helps get the process started and ensure a completely heated-through pan.

Giada De Laurentiis: Add Italian Flavors

Giada's Tuscan rib-eye steak recipe proves everything is better with Italian flair. If you're into rosemary, thyme, garlic, and lemon (who isn't?), this is the best way to cook your steak.

Ree Drummond: Butter-Rubbed Grill Pan

The Pioneer Woman's first blog post to go viral was titled "How to Cook a Steak," and it's easy to see why. Her "never-fail arsenal" is just three ingredients: "Lawry's Seasoned Salt, McCormick Lemon Pepper, and a nice stick of regular (salted) butter." Ree advises coating a hot grill pan in butter before searing the steaks. In the post, she promises, "If you cook it for your friends, they'll never invite you over to their house for dinner again. You will have permanently raised the bar."

Gordon Ramsay: Baste With Butter

It's no surprise that Gordon Ramsay's tip for steak is the same as his tip for burgers: baste with butter. Besides the fact that fat makes everything taste better, Gordon explains that coating steak with melted butter "gives it a nice nutty brown finish."

Ina Garten: Steakhouse-Style Filet Mignon

Leave it to The Barefoot Contessa to school us in making a restaurant-worthy dish at home. If you're feeling fancy and opt for filet mignon, you'll want to use a generous coating of fleur de sel and coarsely cracked black peppercorns to achieve a perfect crust. If you follow her recipe to a T, you'll be the one saying, "How easy is that?"

Chrissy Teigen: Soak in a Garlicky Marinade

Chrissy Teigen admits in her cookbook, Cravings, that she's normally a traditionalist when it comes to steak (page 206), but her husband John Legend's "best marinade in existence" changed her mind. A lot goes into it - soy sauce and garlic, for starters - and after marinating for eight hours, you're on your way to juicy, flavor-packed steak. "I would probably still go simple if I was staring at the most beautiful piece of beef I've ever seen, but use this tangy marinade on a nice, solid rib eye, and I promise you, it will be hard for you to have it any other way," she wrote.

Tom Colicchio: Grill on Each Side

Top Chef's Tom Colicchio recommends turning the steak a total of six times while it's on the grill (grill it for three to four minutes on each side, including the edges). He also recognizes that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to steak. In an interview with POPSUGAR, he said, "start with buying the perfect steak - you can't buy a lousy piece of meat and make it great."

Bobby Flay: Perfectly Grilled

Bobby Flay, master of the grill, doesn't bother with anything complicated for his perfectly grilled steak recipe. All you need is steak, oil, and salt and pepper - and Bobby always recommends oiling the meat itself, not the grill or pan.

These Illustrations of Disney Princesses Going to the Doctor Without Obamacare Are Too Real

Belle, Ariel, and Elena of Avalor are all dealing with the effects of a world without Obamacare in these illustrations created by a duo of creative Latinas, illustrator Maritza Lugo and writer Danielle Sepulveres.

With the fate of the Affordable Care Act (popularly known as Obamacare) up in the air, Maritza and Danielle decided to use everyone's favorite princesses to show off the devastating implications that the repeal will have for millions of Americans - specifically women.

"At the end of 2015, I contacted Maritza and asked if she'd be interested in drawing re-imagined Disney princesses to bring awareness for cervical cancer awareness month," Danielle told us via email. "This year, we decided to revamp that project and brainstormed how we could be most effective in showing the consequences of the repeal of ACA, looming ominously over essential healthcare for women." The results: Pocahontas being denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition, Belle having to pay for a new birth control prescription, and Elena facing protestors outside of Planned Parenthood. Scroll ahead to see the poignant illustrations and read what Maritza said about each of them on Instagram.

A Stranger Captured the Perfect Candid Photo of an Exhausted Mom and Her 3-Month-Old

Being a new mom is tiring no matter what time of day it is or where you and your baby are at a given moment. A mother who was traveling with her 3-month-old for the first time experienced first-hand the exhaustion of being a mom in general coupled with unexpected flight delays.

"We were on a flight from Port Hedland to Perth, which was scheduled to take two hours," Charlotte Mathhews shared with the Love What Matters Facebook page. "Instead we got diverted to collect stranded passengers in Broome, making the trip five hours. It was my first trip with my 3-month-old, Monty, and I was exhausted just generally from being a mother."

After a bit of shuffling around to find a position that was comfortable for both her and Monty to sleep in, Matthews was able to get him to sleep with kisses and cooing. After Matthews fell asleep herself, little did she know, the stranger across the aisle was a photographer who saw the sweet bonding moment and felt the need to capture it for her.

"A photographer sitting across the aisle unknowingly snapped this moment," Matthews wrote. "He later showed it to me and sent me a sweet note about capturing our first flight together." Although her trip came with unexpected turbulence (pun intended), this adorable candid photo of the pair looks like it made all the struggle and exhaustion worth it.

Sorry, Donald Trump, but These Stars Prove That Girl Power Is Only Getting Stronger in Hollywood

While the world seems to be spiraling into a more confusing and uncertain state, one thing we know we can always rely on is the escape Hollywood brings. Movies and TV shows offer the perfect distraction from just about anything, and HBO's new series, Big Little Lies, which is based on Liane Moriarty's bestselling book, is the latest one we can't wait for. Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz hit the red carpet at their show's Hollywood premiere on Tuesday night, and if it proves anything, it's that girl power is on the rise (but nice try, Donald Trump). Not only did the group of women look stunning and fierce, but they showed off their amazing bond by holding hands while posing for photographers. They also appeared to share a few secrets of their own while huddled close together. We're officially counting down the days until it premieres on HBO on Feb. 19.

Though we didn't see Gigi on board, we bet Bella's excited to support her big sister. This is Gigi's second collab with Tommy Hilfiger and it's already proving to be bigger and better than the first. Scroll on to see what we know about Tommyland so far and then check out some of the pieces you will soon be able to shop. Stay tuned for more details!

While we still don't have too many details about what's to come for some of our favorite Litchfield inmates, there are a few important details to catch up on before Summer.

You'll Never Need Another Topcoat Once You See This Unicorn Polish Kit

If you thought the unicorn beauty trend was just temporary, we're here to inform you that it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Over the past year, mystical, holographic hues have been launched in various forms, including via lipsticks, highlighter, hair dye, and makeup brushes. We've even seen the craze spread to decadent treats, like unicorn poop meringues and macarons.

Now, you can coordinate all of your mythical creature swag with your nails because Laqa & Co. is launching a Unicorn Manicure Set. The kit includes two essential colors for magical nails: Chuffed, an opaque pastel purple, and Neargasm, a prismatic topcoat. One coat of the iridescent topcoat will give any polish color a glistening, holographic sparkle. Add on an extra coat for a pearlescent galaxy effect.

POPSUGAR Beauty was able to exclusively try the set first, which you can see ahead! Obviously we tested the transformative topcoats on as many colors as we could could fit on one hand, and the results were impressive. The lacquers were left with a glossy, prismatic sheen that boasted hues of pinks, purples, and blues. The topcoat also has subtle flecks of glitter that make your manicure look like it was sprinkled with unicorn dust.

What we love most about the duo is that it's a fun, yet subtle way to get in on the colorful trend if leaving the house in rainbow-colored hair and unicorn highlighter isn't an option. The set launches February 8 at laqaandco.com ($14). Judging from the success of previous unicorn beauty launches, we anticipate this set will move quickly, so make sure you snag yours fast!

Ellen DeGeneres Says Everything You Were Secretly Thinking About Beyoncé's Maternity Shoot

Everyone freaked out earlier this month when Beyoncé announced that she is pregnant with twins. While her initial Instagram photo was more than enough, the internet really lost it when she posted numerous photos from her elaborate maternity shoot, including Ellen DeGeneres. In honor of the singer's big news, the host decided to take a better look at the photos during her show. Not only does she hilariously break it down for the audience, but we have to admit her lighthearted commentary is pretty spot on. "Celebrities are just like us," she joked. "They swim wearing golden scarves and in pools of roses."

These Are the 18 Things Parents of Children With Special Needs Want You to Know

Every single child is unique and special in their own way. Every single child, whether they have special needs or not, deserves to be treated as such, and deserves to be respected as an individual with traits and talents that undoubtedly differ from other kids. We asked real parents, "What do you wish everyone knew about your child with special needs?" to find out what is most important for them, as parents of kids with special needs, to make sure others understand.

Scroll through to see their heartfelt responses.

  1. "That he's special, just like every other kid. We're all unique, maybe it's time we were all treated that way." - Jodie
  2. "That just because she can't talk doesn't mean she doesn't understand absolutely everything you say to and around her." - Crystal
  3. "That he's not bad. I get so tired of hearing that!" - Carolyn
  4. "That he's not a whiny brat, that crying and fits of anger are how he communicates that his surroundings are too much." - Mary
  5. "That he is a good boy with a big heart who just has challenges the rest of us don't have. He doesn't want to misbehave, but he can't control it. And that I'm not spoiling him by cutting him some slack." - Brandye
  6. "That he is different, not less." - Susan
  7. "There is nothing wrong with her mentally. She is a normal 11-year-old who has crushes, likes to hang out, and go to dances. Life is not easy for her in any way but she makes the best of it." - Renee
  8. "That just because she has a disability doesn't mean she's not smart, fun, kind . . . " - Anne-Marie
  9. "Remember that he's only six, and just because he is developmentally delayed and his speech is significantly delayed doesn't mean he's not capable. He can do it, he will do it . . . " - Nicole
  10. "That he has autism rather than being autistic. He has a disorder but his disorder isn't who he is." - Liz
  11. "That the things she struggles with can't be fixed with 'more discipline.'" - Ashley
  12. "That, yes, I understand that he can be annoying, but he is a very sensitive kid who has suffered through being bullied his whole life, and doesn't need you to make him feel like crap." - Jennifer
  13. "Just because you 'can't tell' he has a disability, doesn't mean he doesn't." - Jennifer
  14. "That it's not his fault and it's not our fault!" - Jason-Jenny
  15. "Just because he 'seems' like he has no issues, it can turn on a dime, and it's not him just acting up. Sensory issues are very real. But because they can't be seen people don't take it seriously." - Melissa
  16. "That his angry outbursts don't mean that he hasn't been raised with discipline, that I'm not parenting properly. They aren't the result of him being a brat - they are the result in over-stimulation, sensory issues, triggers, etc." - Jennifer
  17. "That my son is brilliant. So many people assume he is educationally impaired because his legs do not work. The pity voice they use to speak to him is insulting." - Kimberly
  18. "That he's awesome." - Cassie

The 1 Thing You Should Try Adding to Your Scrambled Eggs

Some people add milk to their scrambled eggs, some prefer heavy cream, and some scramble them in bacon fat. Even if you think you've tried it all, there's one sneaky ingredient you might not have added before, and that's worcestershire sauce. I found this idea in a Facebook comment on our post about how chefs scramble eggs, and I knew I wanted to try it myself because I'm a huge fan of the incredibly savory condiment. The sauce, which is typically used for steak and Bloody Marys, is made of anchovies (yes, really), garlic, vinegar, molasses, salt, onions, chili peppers, and other spices.

So how does it taste in scrambled eggs? It's interesting, but in a good way - I totally approve. I recommend adding 1/4 teaspoon of worcestershire sauce per two eggs and whisking everything together well before cooking your eggs low and slow. The sauce is already really salty, so you don't need to add anymore. The eggs develop a slightly tangy, smoky, umami-rich flavor that's unlike any scrambled egg I've had before. If you have worcestershire sauce on hand anyway, give this a try. It just might become your favorite scrambled eggs recipe.

The 12 Gifts That Moms Actually Want For Valentine's Day

When it comes to Valentine's Day after kids, gifts look less like flowers and chocolates and more like free hug coupons and high fives. To make this Valentine's Day a bit more special without going through a ton of effort, concentrate on getting the mom in your life a gift she really wants.

Below, we've compiled a list of appropriate gifts that all moms will approve of and actually enjoy immensely.

  1. Sleep. Offer to let her nap for a few hours - or a day.
  2. Child Care. Slap a few $20s into a babysitter's hands and tell Mom she can do whatever she wants with the gift of time, like read that book that's been on her nightstand since before she had kids (or, see Sleep).
  3. Wine. Jugs of it. And a private place to drink it all with her feet up would be nice.
  4. A Spa Weekend. Or honestly just a weekend away in a quiet room where no one under the age of 10 can find her. With a bathtub. And alcohol (see Wine).
  5. Snacks the Kids Can't Find. Make up a bag of her favorite snacks that the kids normally steal and let her indulge in her guilty pleasures alone (see Child Care).
  6. iCloud Storage Plan. No matter how fed up or exhausted a mom is, you know that she's taking 40,000 photos a day of her little monsters - an iPhone storage plan will eliminate the rage she feels 10 times a day when her phone tells her she has no more room for that 30th photo in a row of a drooly baby.
  7. Cleaning Services. There's nothing that turns on a mom more than not having to pick up after her family - pay someone to do it for her.
  8. An Automatic Coffee Pot. One of those nifty coffee pots that automatically brews on an alarm is a priceless gift. Go a step further and set yourself a fancy little alarm to fill it with grounds and water for her each night.
  9. A Soundproof Driver's Seat Barrier. So that she never has to listen to her kids screaming in the back seat ever again.
  10. A Seamless Gift Card. So that she can order food . . . and have it delivered . . . without having to talk to a human. Because who the heck has time to cook anymore? (Let alone make meals for a toddler who said he wanted chicken nuggets, which really meant macaroni and cheese, which obviously meant toast cut in diagonals - no, squares.)
  11. Someone to Call When the Going Gets Rough. When her son's potty training and peeing all over the house? Dial the number and someone will take over. When her daughter wants to wear the same robot costume for 30 days in a row, but it's always filthy? Dial the number and the laundry will get done. Did we mention the number's for a genie? Check Yelp - I'm sure one for hire exists.
  12. The Flowers and Chocolates Anyway. Because what mom doesn't want to shovel chocolate into her mouth while staring at beautiful, clean flowers?

Michelle Obama Just Got Officially Sworn In - by J.Crew

Michelle Obama left the White House, and so many of us felt unprepared. Especially the fashion crowd - American designers who have gained recognition and respect thanks to their relationship with her. Michelle has always kept fashion at the forefront, taking her outfit into consideration as she plans each of her appearances. Feeling Bloated? Do This Now For Quick Relief

If you want to fight belly fat, burning calories and fat through cardio - especially interval training - is your best bet. Bloating, on the other hand, is its own beast, and you can't feel confident rocking your fitted shirts if your belly is superpuffy. Luckily, there are easy ways to reduce bloating so that you can show off that tummy you've been working so hard to get.

  • Put this down: Not only is too much sodium bad for your heart, but it will also cause you to retain water - and not just in your belly - so stop yourself the next time you reach for the salt shaker. Extra sprinkles aren't the only way we consume too much sodium. Limit high-sodium foods such as hot dogs, cottage cheese, bacon, soy sauce, and chips.
  • Sip this: When you're belly is bloated, filling up on water seems like the last thing you want to do, but it helps prevent bloat in two ways. When you're not drinking enough fluids, your body retains water to prevent dehydration. So sipping nature's beverage can actually reduce water retention. Drinking water also prevents constipation, which is another cause of a bloated belly. Also include foods with high water content such as watermelon, celery, grapefruit, and cucumbers.
  • Limit this: Some foods such as beans, broccoli, pears, onions, and carbonated drinks create more gases in your body than others, so limit these foods. Dairy can also cause some people gassiness, so if this sounds familiar, hold the milk, ice cream, yogurt, and cheese, and look for dairy-free alternatives.
  • Eat this: Fiber helps everything move through the intestines more quickly, which prevents constipation and bloating. If you're not accustomed to eating enough fiber, then slowly add more and more fiber to your diet - go too fast, and you'll feel even more bloated than before. Include berries, avocado, kiwi, beans, whole grains, and other high-fiber foods in your meals and snacks every day.
  • Slow down: One small cause of bloating could be that you're swallowing too much air when you're scarfing down your meals; this is why some of us get the hiccups when eating too quickly. Slow down when you eat, and really chew your food.
  • Get tropical: Eating pineapple can ease bloating too. This tropical fruit is high in the enzyme bromelain, which helps break down protein and eases digestion, helping to banish the bloat. Here's a bloat-fighting smoothie recipe to try that's made with pineapple.
  • Get moving: Daily physical activity can also prevent constipation, so aim for 30 minutes a day.
  • Cheers to this: Alcohol is another cause of bloat since it causes dehydration, which as mentioned above, can lead to water retention. For your health and your belly's sake, stick to one alcoholic beverage, and follow it with a huge glass of water.

6 Tips and Recipes to Help You Master the Art of Latin Cooking

If you've eaten your mom's and grandma's delicious Latin cooking your whole life, you might not be used to flying solo in your own kitchen. So we asked Bren Herrera, chef and the lifestyle expert behind BrenHerrera.com - warning: once you log on, you're likely to spend a few hours drooling over food porn and Pinning your life away - to drop some knowledge for novice cooks. Here, her top six tips - plus a few beginner recipes to get you started.

1. Buy a pressure cooker.

Yes, we're talking about the casuela your grandmother used all the time. It's like a pot with a special lid that has the capability to heat and cook foods much faster - about 70 percent quicker - which is a tremendous time-saver. Who doesn't want delicious foods in less time? Herrera recommends looking for a modern six-quart cooker that has all the bells and whistles, like a safety valve. (The newest ones won't even let you open the cooker until all of the pressure is released, helping to avoid any accidents.) Trust us on this one - it's the best cooking invention ever.

2. Make your own spice blends.

Of course, we all know that Sazón Goya is a classic, easy-to-use cabinet must have. But don't be afraid to experiment and create your own blend. "If there are flavors you love together or often use for recipes, mix them up ahead of time so you'll have them on hand to toss into your favorite dishes," Herrera says. You can become a cooking bartender: an expert in the practice of cocktailing spices!

3. Invest in high-quality chef's knives.

And always keep them sharpened! Dull knives make chopping quickly tougher - plus they don't cut your foods as cleanly and put yourself at a higher risk for injury. Herrera recommends these from NewWest Knife Works. "I love their wood handles, and they're 100 percent American made," she says.

4. Don't toss burnt food.

If you slightly charred your favorite beans, don't worry. "Just dump a large raw onion or a red potato with skin into the pot. It absorbs the toxins and saves your dish. My mom taught me this flavor saver over 20 years ago, and it works like a charm every time."

5. Freeze your meats.

Cutting steak or any cut of beef can be a challenge. To make life simpler, freeze it first until it's firm, but not brick hard, Herrera says. This will make your slicing and filleting so much easier. And you'll get good practice cutting along the grain!

6. Read, read, read!

Before you even step in front of the stove, read the recipe you're going to be tackling several times. "It will help you get a handle on all of the steps and understand the language and techniques ahead of time, so you're not just trying to do it on the fly," Herrera says. And reading through the recipe several times gives you time to research unknown ingredients. You don't want to invite a special friend over for dinner and as you're cooking find out that you're missing a key ingredient!

Got that? Now, keep reading for some amazing beginner recipes to help get you started!

An ER Doctor's Kind Words Gave Me the Reassurance I Needed as a New Mom

Leaving the hospital with my newborn felt equal parts thrilling and terrifying. After days of routine monitoring and a regular stream of nurses ready to answer all our burning questions, my husband and I were suddenly on our own. I put our son in his car seat, glanced up at my husband, and thought, "Yay, here we go!" And then: "Wait, do we actually know what we're doing?"

We did and we didn't. Books, classes, and spending time with other people's babies can only prepare you so much, and as we drove away from the hospital, my confidence wavered.

Our first afternoon at home went smoothly - or as smoothly as can be expected, anyway. But that night, at about 3 a.m., just hours after we'd left the hospital with our son, we watched him choke and stop breathing for about four seconds.

His little eyes grew wide and I screamed as I held him up. My husband yelled his name, panicked, and with another choking sound, our baby started to breathe again. I watched as his eyes softened and the color came back to his cheeks. He seemed to be OK, but my heart still felt like it was lodged in my throat. It had come out of nowhere.

"I'm sure he's fine," my husband said, his face pale and unconvincing.

I hesitated. "Maybe we should call the advice nurse. Just to be sure."

He seemed to be OK, but my heart still felt like it was lodged in my throat.

We debated for a couple minutes, both of us wanting to call but also worried that we were hysterical over nothing. Each of us had slept a total of six hours, maybe seven over the past two days. Maybe we were just tired? After a bit of back and forth, we soon agreed that we'd rather be safe than sorry, and sure enough, the advice nurse urged us to take him to the emergency room.

She suggested we go because our son was so tiny and there had been complications throughout the delivery. "If there's any question that there might be a problem, I have to tell you to bring him in," she said. "But it's up to you as the parents."

Up to us, the parents. Ohmygod, I thought. We're parents.

The drive along an empty highway took about 15 minutes, and by the time we were sitting in a room and waiting for the doctor, both of us wearing mismatched pajamas, our son seemed fine. He had calmed down, and so had we. The insecurity set in that we'd probably overreacted.

"I'm embarrassed," I told my husband. "It hasn't even been one day and we're already freaking out."

"I know. I feel weird too," he said.

The ER doctor seemed a bit stiff when he introduced himself. As he examined our son, he ticked off questions about when the baby had eaten, how he'd behaved, and what we'd experienced in those first days. We gave him all the answers, and after checking our son's vital signs, the doctor said he was fine and that it may have been reflux, but he'd be OK.

Maybe it was the dark circles under our eyes or our mismatched pajamas or the way we shyly thanked the doctor and half-apologized for being there in the first place, but whatever it was, something made him pull out a chair and sit down.

"I'm 45 and I have three kids," he told us. "With the first one, we had no idea what we were doing, and we were nervous about every little thing. I thought it would be different with the others, but it wasn't. I'm still nervous all the time."

I started crying. I blamed the hormones and the sleep deprivation, but really, it was relief.

I started crying. I blamed the hormones and the sleep deprivation, but really, it was relief.

The doctor put his hand on my shoulder. "Don't feel silly for being here," he said. "Trust your instincts. This is your kid, and you did the right thing. You can bring him here in the middle of the night whenever you feel like you need to, OK?"

We nodded and he left, and I glanced at my husband, who gave me a tired, satisfied smile. "I'm glad we came," he said. "Even though I'd rather be sleeping."

"Me too," I agreed, grateful for a doctor who'd known exactly what we needed: reassurance, a little bit of encouragement. Kindness.

It's been nearly six months and I still think about that night all the time. There have been plenty of mini panics since then, and whenever I feel anxious about something, I let myself be afraid. I let my instincts kick in, I listen to my gut, and I remember that it's up to us, the parents, who mostly have no idea what we're doing. Which is totally, 100 percent OK.

From Weight Loss to Digestion, All the Reasons You Should Be Eating Flaxseeds

Are you noticing flaxseeds added to just about everything these days? It's for good reason - they're insanely healthy - but do you know why? Check out the reasons you should be eating flaxseeds (if you're not already).

  1. Walnuts and fish are excellent sources of omega-3s, but so are flaxseeds. The recommended daily intake (RDI) of omega-3s is around one gram a day, and one tablespoon of flaxseed offers 2.3 grams (one tablespoon of flaxmeal offers 1.6 grams).
  2. The omega-3s in flaxseed can help reduce inflammation that leads to conditions such as asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, migraine headaches, and osteoporosis.
  3. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) is one kind of omega-3 fatty acid that is found in flaxseeds, and this fat helps promote bone health.
  4. Flaxseed is known to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels, and it may lower blood pressure - all essential elements to having a healthy heart.
  5. Whole flaxseed is a great source of fiber. One tablespoon contains three grams of fiber, which can aid in digestion, help prevent constipation, and aid in weight loss.
  6. Lignans, the fiber found in flaxseed, promotes regular digestion and are thought to have a role in breast cancer prevention.

Here are some creative tips on how you can get more flax into your diet.

  • Sprinkle seeds or ground flaxseed on your cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, salad, or sandwiches.
  • Add flaxseed to your recipes. They make the perfect high-fiber egg replacer - one tablespoon flaxmeal mixed with three tablespoons water equals one egg. Try it in these gingerbread "buttermilk" pancakes or this protein-packed banana bread.
  • Add flaxmeal or flaxseeds to your blender when making your breakfast smoothie - the healthy fats and fiber will keep you feeling full longer.
  • Look for products that have added flax such as cereal, bread, and crackers.
