The Most Famous British Royal Couples of All Time

Or should we say infamous? All-consuming passion, illicit liaisons, bitter breakups, heartbreak, and true love - over the centuries, royal history has had it all. And because of the nature of monarchy, everything has been acted out on a much larger scale. Love letters were burned or placed in a museum and jewels handed out like gas station flowers while countless people were affected. Whether they have gone down in history for the scale of their love or the size of their scandal, we take a look at the top 10 royal couples who have captured our imaginations throughout the ages.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles

The relationship between Charles and Camilla got off to a flying start when the pair were both age 23 and met at a polo match. They started a relationship, but a year or so later when Charles went away to sea with the navy, he felt he was too young to make any grand gestures about the future, and the pair went their separate ways. Camilla then got back together with her ex-boyfriend Andrew Parker-Bowles and they married. Charles wrote to his uncle Lord Mountbatten, "I suppose the feeling of emptiness will pass eventually." He married Lady Diana Spencer, but remained friends with Camilla, and so began a painful and destructive two decades that blended at different times friendship, romantic love, and a passionate relationship. The pair finally married in 2005, and Prince Harry has since said of his stepmother, "We are very grateful for her. She's made our father very happy . . . She's a wonderful woman. William and I love her to bits."

Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn

Nothing says "I love you" more than creating an entirely new religion purely so that the two of you can be married. However, nothing says "It's over" more than having you put to death. Henry VIII certainly wasn't one to do things by halves. Frustrated that he and his wife Catherine of Aragon had been unable to produce a male heir, Henry began an affair with her lady-in-waiting Anne Boleyn, and lust turned to love. He wrote to his mistress, "The beautiful words of your letter are so cordially phrased, that they really oblige me to honour, love and serve you forever . . . For my part, I will outdo you, if this be possible, rather than reciprocate, in loyalty of my heart and my desire to please you . . . henceforth my heart will be dedicated to you alone."

The pope refused to grant Henry and Catherine a divorce, so the king passed the Act of Supremacy, stating that he was now the head of the English Church. His marriage to Catherine was annulled and he married Anne a week later, lavishing his second wife with jewel-encrusted necklaces and brooches featuring their intertwined initials. However, after three years of marriage and still no male heir, Henry ordered Anne's execution and married her lady-in-waiting Jane Seymour.

Charles II and Nell Gwyn

Vivacious, attractive, and quick-witted, Nell Gwyn has become known as one of the most famous royal mistresses of all time. Diarist Samuel Pepys referred to her as "pretty, witty Nell." Raised in a brothel before becoming an orange-seller and actress, Nell's life couldn't have been further from royalty, and it's thought this was why her relationship with the king worked so well. Though he had many mistresses, Nell had a special place in his heart, and they were in a relationship for 17 years, having two sons together. During that time, Charles gave Nell a diamond ring and a watch hung with a jeweled heart, bought her a house, covered all her living expenses, and gave her one surviving son the title Duke of St Albans. On his deathbed, Charles asked his brother James "not to let poor Nelly starve."

Edward VII and Wallis Simpson

This notorious couple is one of the most scandalous in royal history. Edward fell in love with the twice-divorced socialite Wallis, knowing that she could never be his wife because English law forbade marriage between a monarch and a divorcee whose partner was still living. When his father George V passed away and Edward acceded to the throne, he searched in vain for ways in which he could become king but also marry Wallis. Eventually, rather than give up the woman he loved, he abdicated, married Wallis, and they set up home in Paris. The relationship of the lavish couple can fittingly be charted in jewels - most famously with a bracelet to which Edward added a new jeweled cross every time something significant happened in their lives - and a gold cigarette case which Wallis gave to Edward that was engraved with a map and had all the countries they had visited picked out in jewels.

George IV and Maria Fitzherbert

Maria Fitzherbert was a twice-widowed Catholic when Prince George fell in love with her, and therefore their relationship could have no future, since Catholics were forbidden from becoming British monarchs. Regardless, the pair were secretly married in 1785, although the marriage was illegal because it had recently become law that any descendant of George II needed permission from the monarch to marry. Nevertheless, George and Maria lived in Brighton for nearly 10 years while George accumulated huge debts, eventually leaving Maria to marry for financial stability. However, soon after his new marriage, he drew up a will bequeathing all his "worldly property . . . to my Maria Fitzherbert, my wife, the wife of my heart and soul . . . such she is in the eyes of Heaven, was, is, and ever will be such in mine."

Four years later, George managed to win Maria back and they were together again for nearly a decade before he left her once more. He asked to be buried with a miniature portrait of her around his neck, which was honoured. He had kept all of their love letters, which were found and burnt.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert

Their love was deep - a letter from Albert read, "Even in my dreams I never imagined that I should find so much love on earth . . ." - and notoriously passionate - when Victoria's doctor advised her not to have a 10th child at the age of 38, she protested, "Am I not to have any more fun in bed?" Albert also bought Balmoral Castle for his wife. When Albert died of typhoid at age 42 in 1861, Victoria wore black for the rest of her life - 40 years - and slept with a picture of him pinned above her bed. She named monuments after him - the Royal Albert Hall, the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, although Victoria had wanted to call it simply the Albert Museum.

Prince Edward (later Edward VII) and Lillie Langtry

Although the dashing society couple didn't share the all-consuming love of other famous royal pairings, these two gained their notoriety by being one of the most celebrated, glamorous, and illicit couples of their day. Edward was at the time married to Princess Alexandra; they had six children, but he took many mistresses, and in 1877 he became infatuated with the beautiful actress and Pre-Raphaelite model Lillie Langtry. The divorcee was famous for her intellect and wit - she was friends with Oscar Wilde and is said to have been the inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock love-interest Irene Adler. During their three-year relationship, Edward let Lillie design a house in Dorset, where they conducted their relationship. She was introduced to his mother Queen Victoria and had a civil relationship with Edward's wife.

George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon

After many royal monarchs married for financial, diplomatic, or political reasons and subsequently kept mistresses who they often felt more deeply for, George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon were the real deal. They were head over heels in love. Letters between the two are romantic and deeply felt. The queen signed one of hers, "I shall only look forward to seeing you again. I send you you all my love and hundreds of kisses." While the king replied, "My own little darling E, I have just received your darling letter . . . Millions and millions of thanks for it darling; it is just what I wanted and nothing could have given me greater help and encouragement." The pair were an important symbol to the British public during WWII, as during the bombing they stayed in London with their people rather than being evacuated as their advisers suggested.

George V and Mary of Teck

This enduring royal love was unexpectedly born out of tragedy and shared grief. German-born and English-raised Princess Mary was engaged to Prince Albert, who at the time was second in line to the throne (his grandmother Victoria was still queen, and his father would later become Edward VII). However, six weeks after the engagement, Albert died of pneumonia, leaving his fiancée and his younger brother George (now second in line to the throne) in mourning. However, in a soap-opera-worthy twist, George and Mary then fell in love and were married. The pair were devoted to each other throughout their lives, and George allowed his wife access to his work while she often helped him write speeches. The couple were strong figureheads for the British people throughout WWI, and their letters show that behind closed doors there was a deep love between them. On their 17th wedding anniversary, the king wrote to his wife, "My love grows stronger for you every day mixed with admiration and I thank God every day that he has given me such a darling devoted wife as you are."

The Queen and Prince Philip

When the 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth first laid eyes on Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, she was smitten. A few years later when they started corresponding by letter, she kept his photograph on her mantelpiece and would play "People Will Say We're in Love" from the musical Oklahoma on her gramophone after she and Philip went to see the musical together. When Philip proposed, the princess said yes without asking permission from her parents, who insisted on waiting till her 21st birthday before announcing the news. The princess wrote in a letter to her parents, "Philip is an angel, we behave as though we had belonged to each other for years." While Philip stated, "She is the only thing in the world which is absolutely real to me." The pair are set to celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary this year, marking an astounding 70 years of marriage.

Before Christian Grey Met Anastasia Steele, He Posed Nude in a Car With Malin Akerman

Remember back in the day when Abercrombie & Fitch's marketing campaigns had less to do with their itty-bitty denim shorts than they did with showing off their models' best . . . um . . . assets? Malin Akerman sure does, and she was happy to discuss what it was really like to strip down for the clothing company alongside Jamie Dornan long before he was taking it off for Fifty Shades of Grey. The Billions actress sat down with Seth Meyers on Thursday, where he presented one of her Instagram photos of an old ad in which she's rocking a pair of bikini bottoms and Jamie is wearing only a farmer's tan. "I don't really know what we were selling. We got to set and after two shots, the clothes came off," she joked. "[The photographer] didn't want any clothes on us . . . needless to say, we got to know each other very well." Looks like Anastasia Steele has some competition.

49 Jennifer Lopez Outfits That Are So Hot, You'll Need to Open a Window

Grab a fan and a cold beverage because you're about to see a lot of Jennifer Lopez's crazy-strong abs, toned legs, and, ahem, cleavage. The singer, actress, and producer's name is basically synonymous with the word hot, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that she's given us a fair share of revealing and sexy outfits through the past 19 years in the spotlight. Of course, there are the naked dresses (including that original Versace down-to-here Grammys dress) and '90s crop tops and low-rise pants, but there are plenty of miniskirts and backless looks as well. Keep reading to see them all.

Big Little Lies: Let's Theorize Who's Dead and Whodunnit

Big Little Lies is HBO's latest buzzy series, and it deserves the buzz: it's based on the bestselling novel by Liane Moriarty and has a star-studded cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern. Not only is the production quality predictably excellent (this is HBO, after all), another reason we're already obsessed is that it kicks off with a murder mystery.

So obviously, there's only one thing to do while we wait for the next episode: theorize on who did it and who's dead. Of course, the book Big Little Lies has been out since 2014, so book readers already know the answer, but for those of us who are only watching the show, let's break down some theories! We'll be updating the suspect/killer list as we go, and we're also keeping in mind the ominous words of the detective in the pilot: "Nobody has been ruled out."

Blue Ivy Might Not Be as Big of a Basketball Fan as Beyoncé and Jay Z

Beyoncé and Jay Z made a family outing with their daughter Blue on Sunday night; the trio was spotting sitting courtside to check out the NBA All-Star Game in New Orleans, and looked to be having a fun time in their front-row seats. Beyoncé covered her growing baby bump in jeans and a floaty kimono while Blue looked equally adorable in a green dress and denim jacket. The noted basketball fans were likely in the building to cheer on their pal LeBron James, who led the Eastern Conference against Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant on the Western Conference. At one point, they shared a sweet moment while being introduced and projected on the big screen, though Blue seemed a little unimpressed with the game overall - it's not like LeBron is that cool or anything.

We got a glimpse of Beyoncé on a casual shopping trip in LA last week before the Knowles-Carter clan jetted off to New Orleans to attend a Saint Heron event hosted by younger sister Solange on Saturday night. Their time in The Big Easy comes nearly a week after Beyoncé made headlines by gracing the Grammys stage for a stunning performance of "Sandcastles" and "Love Drought" and being beat out by Adele for the album of the year award. Despite the loss, she, Jay Z, and Blue all seemed to have a great time at the ceremony and afterparty.

11 Photos of Our Beloved Ex-Boyfriend Barack Obama Being Totally Fine Without Us

In January, Barack Obama walked out of our hearts and onto a private plane headed to Southern California. After some quality time in the desert with Michelle, the former first couple took off for the Virgin Islands and never looked back. We first got a glimpse of Barack kicking back with Virgin founder Richard Branson, clad in breathable fabrics and a backward baseball cap, but it wasn't until Richard shared a video of the two kitesurfing on his own Necker Island that we realized it was really over. The video went viral for obvious reasons - just look at those legs! - but it also forced us to accept the fact that Barack has moved on; the board shorts, the flip-flops, the tank top . . . the rest and relaxation hath taken him now.

Here are 11 photos of our one and only Barack having the time of his life in the bright blue sea, probably about to enjoy a plate of fish tacos or swim with dolphins, while we wade through the ocean of alternative facts we're now living in.

25 NSFW Birth Photos That Are So Stunning, You Won't Be Able to Look Away

Check out these 25 raw birth photos that are so incredibly stunning, you won't be able to look away - in spite of their graphic nature.

5 Ways to DIY a Cute Choker Necklace

It seems like everywhere you look on Instagram, style stars are wearing chokers - from day to night, at airports, and even on the red carpet. It doesn't surprise me! This accessory is easy, feminine, and versatile, complementing basically every neckline. I remember in the '90s a choker was on my neck almost every day. Robert Pattinson and Fiancée FKA Twigs Take the Red Carpet Together in London

Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs hit the red carpet together for the London premiere of his new film The Lost City of Z on Thursday. The engaged couple looked stylish as they posed for photos - Robert cut a suave figure in a blue suit while Twigs rocked a black zippered jumpsuit - before Rob linked up with his costars Sienna Miller, Tom Holland, and Charlie Hunnam, who also wore a blue suit for the occasion. It's been a while since we've seen Rob and Twigs in an official capacity - they last attended the Dance Project Gala together in December - but we did catch them on a romantic date night in London just last week.

Reminder: This Isn't Emma Stone's First Shot at Oscar Gold

La La Land made history in January by picking up a record-tying 14 Oscar nominations, a record set by Titanic and All About Eve. Among the nods are best picture, best actor for Ryan Gosling, and best actress for Emma Stone. After the nominations were announced, Stone reacted to the exciting news in the sweetest way possible. "I am so grateful for this honor and I'm so happy to share this feeling with my La La Land family," she said in a statement. "The greatest part of life is connecting with people, and I love the deeply talented, kind and passionate people I was lucky enough to work with on this movie. I'm also overjoyed that the movie has connected with audiences in the way it has, and that it's hopefully bringing a kick in their step to those who watch it. This is beyond any of our wildest imaginings and we can't wait to celebrate together."

Given the fact that the film has been sweeping award season, there's a good chance Stone will be bringing home the gold this year. Of course, this isn't the first time she's been nominated for an Oscar. In 2011, her film The Help scored a nod for best picture, and in 2015, she was up for best supporting actress for her performance in Birdman. (She lost to Boyhood's Patricia Arquette.) We're rooting for you, Emma!

5 Secrets About Best Buy, According to an Employee

Curious about whether you should actually get the warranty at Best Buy? Find out the answer from one Best Buy employee's Reddit AMA. The employee, who works for Best Buy in Canada as a "connected solutions specialist," answered questions about the break room, bargaining, and whether or not to get a warranty on a tech device. See the employee's answers ahead.

People steal all sorts of devices

According to the employee, they can't do anything to stop people from stealing. So he's seen people "walk out with laptops."

The break room has video games.

Forget eating lunch during your break - relax by playing a game instead! The break room in this employee's store, also called a "Hub," has a Wii U in it.

The discount isn't that great.

Unlike other retail chains, Best Buy's discount on laptops and gaming systems isn't great - so don't ask for it. But, if you need cables or other accessories, the discount works in their favor.

The people at the return area don't ignore you on purpose.

If you happen to see a person at the return desk area, they aren't always equipped to help you. According to the employee, sometimes it's employees working with other stores to get a product shipped or checking stock of an item.

If you want a deal on a warranty, just ask.

On a basic level, the employee recommends always getting the warranty. The employee also mentioned that if you want a deal on a warranty, ask for one. "Sometimes we can do half off two-year or three-year [warranty]!" they wrote.

Dad's Note to Selfless Wife Carrying Their Baby Without a Brain to Term For Organ Donation

"The other night, before I left for New Orleans, I was watching my beautiful wife sleep peacefully on the couch," wrote Royce Young in a heartbreaking post to Facebook. "I looked at her laying there, her belly big with our daughter kicking away, a daughter that won't live more than a few days, and it just overwhelmed me of how incredible this woman is."

Young's loving ode to his strong and incredible wife, Keri, is making its rounds on the internet, simultaneously breaking hearts and helping the world to see what true selflessness looks like. After getting the unthinkable news that their developing daughter, Eva, does not have a brain and won't live long after birth, Keri asked through sobs whether she'd be able to donate Eva's organs if she carried her to term.

"I remember our doctor putting her hand on Keri's shoulder and saying, 'Oh honey, that's so brave of you to say.' Like, how nice of you, but come on. Keri meant it," Young wrote. "There I was, crestfallen and heartbroken, but I momentarily got lifted out of the moment and just stood in awe of her. I was a spectator to my own life, watching a superhero find her superpowers. In literally the worst moment of her life, finding out her baby was going to die, it took her less than a minute to think of someone else and how her selflessness could help. It's one of the most powerful things I've ever experienced."

Young's post continues as he outlines the entire devastating situation while marveling at Keri's strength.

This whole process has been rough, but I say that as someone watching from the bleachers like the rest of you. Keri has been in the trenches the entire time, feeling every little kick, every hiccup and every roll. She's reminded every moment of every day that she's carrying a baby that will die. Her back hurts. Her feet are sore. She's got all the super fun pregnant stuff going on. But the light at the end of her nine-month tunnel will turn into a darkness she's never felt before a couple hours or days after Eva is born. She's the one that is going to deal with all that comes with having a baby - her milk coming in, the recovery process, etc, but with no snuggly, soft, beautiful newborn to look at to remind you that it was all worth it.

We made our choice to carry Eva to full term for a lot of reasons, but the first and foremost was to donate her organs. We don't say that to try and sound like great people or anything. It was just a practical endgame that in our minds, before we came to the realization Eva is alive and our daughter deserves to meet her mama and daddy, gave us a purpose to continue on. Donating was on Keri's mind from darn near the second we found out and while the experience of holding and kissing our daughter will be something we cherish forever, the gift(s) she's got inside that little body of hers is what really matters. Keri saw that almost instantly. . . .

We're getting closer to the finish line, and while it's going to be amazing to run through that tape and meet Eva, it comes at a cost. We'll go to the hospital for a birth, and go home without a baby. A lot of people say things like, 'I wouldn't change anything' after a trying circumstance, but I'm not about to say that. I would definitely change this if I could. I want my daughter to be perfect. I want her to blow out her candles on her first birthday. I want to watch her bang her head on our coffee table trying to learn to walk. I want her to run up a cell phone bill texting boys. I want to walk her down an aisle. I want to change it all so, so badly. But I can't. This is our reality. And there's no stopping it.

Young finishes his soul-crushing post with final thoughts on Keri's character. "She's TOUGH. She's BRAVE. She's incredible. She's remarkable," he wrote. "She's cut from a different cloth, combining wit, beauty, courage, silliness, character, and integrity into one spectacular woman. And somehow, she's my wife. Not that I needed some awful situation like this to actually see all of that, but what it did was make me want to tell everyone else about it."

Here's Giada De Laurentiis's Famous Savory Oatmeal Recipe

It's no secret that Giada De Laurentiis eats oatmeal with olive oil for breakfast. It's "one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast," she told POPSUGAR in an interview. Giada typically recommends drizzling oats with just olive oil and sea salt, but she shared a recipe on her new lifestyle site Giadzy that proves oatmeal with olive oil goes beyond the basics and that you can get creative with unexpected toppings. Giada's savory oatmeal is made with lemon, thyme, chopped almonds, extra-virgin olive oil, and oranges for just a touch of sweetness. Giada writes, "A twist on traditional sweet oats, this savory variation uses extra-virgin olive oil and oranges in lieu of oft- favored brown sugar. The olive oil is packed with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats to help stabilize blood sugar and control cravings throughout the day."

If you're looking for new ideas for breakfasts that fill you up, this low-sugar and high-protein oatmeal is the perfect option.

Sweet Newborn Photos Capture the Devastating Final Moments of 1 Twin's Life

When looking at William and Reagan Brentlinger's sweet newborn photos, you'd never suspect that anything was wrong with either of these beautiful babies. However, this photoshoot will serve as one of the Brentlinger family's main reminders of William, as he passed away just 11 days after his and his sister's birth.

At her 23-week appointment, Lyndsay Brentlinger and her husband, Matthew, were told that William would be stillborn. "He just had a bunch of abnormalities," Lyndsay told ABC News. "The left side of his heart was not functioning." But as fate would have it, William was born with his tiny heart beating and was able to go home with his family to enjoy his short life. "They were the happiest 11 days of my life," Matthew said.

To honor William's life, the Brentlingers turned to photographer friend Lindsey Brown, who squeezed them in for a beautiful photo shoot that would give the family memories of William to cherish for years to come.

"Photographing the babies was very bittersweet." Lindsey told POPSUGAR Moms. "They both looked so perfect. You never would have known anything was wrong with sweet William." Lindsey says that even though the Brentlingers were some of the strongest and kindest people she's met since becoming a photographer, this shoot was still extremely difficult.

"The parents were in great spirits and treated little William just as they did Reagan; like nothing was even wrong with him. I think they were just really trying to take in every moment they had with their boy before he passed.

Although it was one of the toughest sessions I've ever done, I'm so happy that they will have these photos for the rest of their lives, as well as to show little Reagan when she's a bit older. I think it's really important and special that Reagan will always have a few photos of her and her brother together that weren't just taken on just a cell phone."

With her 29th birthday taking place on Feb. 20, we have a pretty good idea of how she'll be celebrating. Look ahead for some of her proudest pothead moments.

3 Simple Tips to Having an Orgasm Every Time

Ever wonder how to make it easier to reach an orgasm? Our friends at Shape share their tips and tricks.

There's a blow-your-mind climax in your future tonight, and every night, if you use these pleasure-boosting, research-backed strategies.

1. Tune In to Your Body

Distracting thoughts are the number-one reason why women have difficulty reaching orgasm, says Vanessa Marin, a certified sex therapist and the founder of Finishing School, an online orgasm course for women. (Here: 21 Surprising Facts You Should Know About Your Orgasm.) "We multitask so much these days that we have a hard time being fully in the moment, even during sex," she says. And nothing kills an orgasm faster than thinking about some big meeting at work or an argument you had with your sister.

It makes sense, then, that women who are better able to tune out distractions tend to climax more often and enjoy sex more than those who don't, according to research in the journal Sexual and Relationship Therapy. To stay focused and present, Marin recommends concentrating on one specific body part that's feeling great, like your neck or your breasts as they're being kissed. This will instantly redirect your mind back to the action, making it easier to intensify your arousal. Use this technique every time you catch your mind wandering. (More expert tips on how to eliminate mental and physical distractions during sex.)

2. Breathe Right

No joke: Breathing like you do when you're turned on may help you climax. That's because your inhales and exhales can influence your emotions; it's why deep, slow breaths can calm you down when you're tense. Marin recommends experimenting with different types of breath. Taking short, quick breaths for a few minutes as you build up to your orgasm may boost your heart rate and heighten your sensations. Or switch to deeper breaths to help relax and tune in to the moment. (These 3 Breathing Exercises for Better Sex will help you get started.)

3. Fantasize a Little (Or a Lot)

If you're having trouble finishing, cue up a go-to fantasy or think about the hottest sex you've ever had. Worrying about whether you'll finish depresses desire and dulls your body's response, which makes it harder to orgasm, Marin says. Using your imagination is proven to make your skin more sensitive, helping to bring on the O. (Or learn how to have multiple orgasms!)

Guy Fieri Settles It Once and For All: Where Exactly Is Flavortown, USA?

Munchies, the Food section of Vice, recently published an intriguing interview with Guy Fieri. Helen Hollyman, the editor in chief and author of the essay, asked the Food Network star the question so many of us have pondered after all these years: "Where exactly is Flavortown, USA?" Guy responded in a way none of us could have expected:

"On camera, I once said, 'This pizza looks like a manhole cover in Flavortown.' Willy Wonka had a chocolate stream, you know? So it's taking these iconic food items, these iconic food moments, and giving them a home. They all live in Flavortown. It's like one of those things in The Matrix: You can only get down with Flavortown if you believe in Flavortown. I have people walk up to me and say, 'Hey, I'm a citizen of Flavortown.' I have people that want to pledge to be a city council member of Flavortown or the mechanic. It doesn't stop. What would be the airline of Flavortown? Sausage Airlines? It just doesn't stop. I just said it, and then people heard it. Of course, there's no Flavortown - unless you believe in it."

So there you have it, folks; Flavortown exists in your mind, and its citizens are your favorite food memories. BRB, booking a one-way ticket via Sausage Airlines to Flavortown!

This Is How to Make Pork 31 Different Ways

To prove that theory, there are 31 Latin-inspired recipes ahead. Try your hand at carnitas tacos, Cuban sandwiches, mofongo, and pork chops topped with fruity salsas.

5 Theories For How American Horror Story Will Tackle the Election

On Thursday, Ryan Murphy revealed the theme of the seventh season of American Horror Story. In a move completely out of left field, Murphy is going to bend the events of the new season around the 2016 election. In spite of the fact that we had our own theories and were keen on collecting sparse details as they trickled out, we did not see this coming. After all, none of the previous seasons have been particularly timely or topical, and they veered pretty hard into classic horror movie scenarios. Now that we know how close to reality this installment will hew, though, we can still do a little brainstorming. Let's figure out how the season might take shape.

1. A Hyperbolized Version of the Events

In this version, we'd get a pretty cut-and-dried iteration of the 2016 election. That means Murphy would cast the fictional character versions of all the major players, including the Trump family, the Obamas, and the Clintons. Of course, to make it a horror story, Murphy would have to heighten the reality. Maybe there's a Russian murderer trying to silence the election whistle-blowers. Maybe the Trumps are literally brainwashing members of Middle America to follow him like an army of drooling zombies. Maybe the Obamas have been hiding a mythological monster in the White House basement for almost a decade and it gets loose. Maybe aliens are behind it! Things could get weird.

2. Some Sort of Dystopian, Warped Version of What Happened

There's always the chance the season will take a more subtle approach. We might not see a Donald Trump and a Hillary Clinton, per se, but maybe we'll see a version of America in the not-too-distant future with similar figures and similar results. America would have to be crumbling more emphatically. There would be obvious and alarming signs of corruption in the government. Murder and theft would be happening left and right, every hour, in broad daylight. Think of it as a dramatized world, kind of along the same lines as something like The Purge. It's not necessarily reality, but it's not far off.

3. An Allegorical Approach to the Characters and Results

With an allegory, the story itself would serve more as a metaphor for what happened during the election. Instead of Donald Trump emerging victorious over Hillary Clinton, we'd see some other sort of scenario where the "bad" guy prevails over the "good" guy. Certain characters and storylines could represent the obvious adversity faced by the black, Muslim, and LGBTQ communities.

4. A Microcosmic View of What the Election Inadvertently Caused

If Ryan Murphy wants to avoid being too on the nose, there's always the chance he won't center it around the election at all. This kind of falls in line with the above mentioned "allegory" theory, but on a much smaller scale. Maybe we zoom in on one tiny neighborhood to see how the election has changed America. All the same things might be present: the persecution and murder of anyone considered an "other," the dramatic constriction of what one might perceive as a "totalitarian regime," and so on. What small and gargantuan effects might this administration have on the average American?

5. Apocalyptic and Large-Scale Mayhem, Discord, and Destruction

Instead of looking at the effects through a microscope, maybe Ryan Murphy will just blow everything up. Literally. A huge, Trumpian monster will attack New York City, Godzilla style. World War III will send the world into a nuclear apocalypse. The devil himself will rise from the ground and lay waste to humankind. What if American Horror Story just levels the world as we know it, leaving nothing in its wake? I mean, it'd probably make for a pretty insane season.

Lion: How the Movie Stays True to The Real Story

Lion, a film you should see with your family, has been earning award season love for its stellar performances, but also because of the incredible true story at its core. The film is based on the life of Saroo Brierly (played by Sunny Pawar and Dev Patel), who was separated from his family in India as a child and subsequently adopted by an Australian couple and relocated to Hobart, Tasmania. As an adult, Saroo couldn't shake the memories of his birth mother and siblings, and became fixated on finding them. The film stays fairly true to the real Saroo's story (which is also documented in his memoir, A Long Way Home), but there are always a few changes when a true story comes to life on film; here are a few of the key differences (spoilers ahead!).

  • Saroo's birth father isn't seen or spoken of in the film, and in real life he left his family two years before Saroo's disappearance.
  • Saroo had another brother, Kallu, in addition to his sister Shekila and his brother Guddu (who passed away shortly after Saroo went missing). Kallu is not mentioned in the movie. Currently, Shekila is a schoolteacher and Kallu is a factory manager.
  • In the movie, Saroo's girlfriend is named Lucy (played by Rooney Mara). In real life, her name was Lisa.
  • Upon their reunion, Saroo's mother was able to recognize her son partly due to a scar he earned as a boy after hitting his head on a rock while being chased by dogs. In the film, he gets the scar trying to carry a watermelon and is hit by a motorbike.
  • As well as Google Earth, social media also played a role in helping the real Saroo put the pieces together. He used the social media sites to connect to Indian people and ask questions about his background. It was the administrator of a Facebook group that ultimately confirmed where his hometown was located.

Justin Timberlake Had to Be "Pretty Persistent" to Get Jessica Biel to Date Him

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel are one of Hollywood's most enviable couples, but the way they met was actually pretty normal. According to Justin, "There was nothing starry about the way we got together. It was very un-Hollywood-esque, in fact. We met and got talking. Afterwards, I asked my friend if I could call her and ask her out. My friend called Jessica and Jessica said, 'Yes.' So, I called her."

During a press conference with the Hollywood Foreign Press in 2012, the "Can't Stop the Feeling" singer revealed the sweet reason why he decided to ask her out over the phone, stating, "That's something I learned from both my stepdad and my grandfather. That there is a thing called chivalry and it doesn't have to die with the birth of the internet. The way I see it, if you're asking a girl out on a date, it's only right to do it in a way that she can hear your voice. I had to be pretty persistent in order to get her to say yes. But I have a fair amount of tenacity and if I want something I stick to it. And in the end, she agreed."

After going through a bit of a rough patch (the couple briefly split in 2011), Justin ended up popping the question over the holidays in 2011, and the two tied the knot in Italy less than a year later. They welcomed their first child, son Silas, in April 2015, and have been making us melt with all their cute moments ever since.
