7 Reasons Betty Is the Murderer on Riverdale
Betty Cooper is not to be trusted. During our short time with her on Riverdale, we've clocked her borderline obsession with Archie Andrews, her infamously "crazy" family, and her role as the resident good girl. It's clear that nothing is as it seems in the small town; secrets beget secrets, and crime and discord lurk constantly in the shadows. Oh, and Jason Blossom, one of the most popular students at Riverdale High, is dead. We have plenty of murder suspects to keep us busy, but I'm not fooled by one of the most innocent-seeming characters in the bunch. You guessed it: I think Betty Cooper is our cold-blooded killer, and I have more than a few reasons to help explain it.
1. She Has a Motive
By now, it's no secret that Betty has a vendetta against Jason Blossom. She believes he's the reason her sister, Polly, landed in the mental hospital. It's true that Jason's sinister involvement in Polly's break doesn't come to light until the group finds the football team's "playbook," but it's clear that Betty had blamed Jason long before his involvement with Polly was confirmed. We learn that in the very first episode.
2. She Doesn't Have an Alibi (That We Know Of)
Granted, details surrounding Jason's murder are very sparse. At this point, we only know the whereabouts of a handful of people on that day: Archie, Ms. Grundy, and Cheryl. We'll probably get more as the weeks roll on, but for the time being, we don't know what Betty was up to.
3. She's So Easy to Write Off
You mean Betty? The cute, blond girl-next-door type who's all sunshine and rainbows? Betty seems sweet. In fact, of the whole group, she's the person I'd probably suspect the least. And, well, isn't that always the person you should suspect the most?
4. She Has a Bad Temper
There have been a few Betty outbursts in the show so far, but one in particular sticks out. Remember when Cheryl Blossom is casually hanging at the Cooper residence? Cheryl says something about Polly that sets Betty off, and Betty fully snaps, then tells Cheryl to get the hell out of her house. With a temper like that and an easy trigger, there's no telling what Betty may or may not have done in the heat of the moment.
5. She Has a Dark Side, Is Possibly Crazy
We can't pitch Betty as a suspect without bringing up her "full dark, no stars" moment. In "Chapter 3," she and Veronica plan to get back at the captain of the football team after learning about his slut-shaming history. They concoct this plan to make him confess to what he's done, and Betty goes all in. She has an entirely different look, complete with a jet-black wig - like full Velma Kelly in Chicago! It's like she's another person. Later, she takes the torture a little too far by amping the jacuzzi heat up to 115 degrees and pouring maple syrup all over the victim. She seems to believe she is Polly. Veronica gets super uncomfortable and begs her to stop. Isn't this ringing any major alarms for anyone else?
6. She's Trying to Find Someone to Blame
In "Chapter 4," Betty seems almost desperate to believe that Ms. Grundy murdered Jason, so much so that she goes to great lengths to implicate her. If Betty were the killer, it would make even more sense that she'd take it upon herself to find a scapegoat. Then she doesn't have to face the consequences of what she's done.
7. Her Family Clearly Is Hiding Some Dark Secrets
Let's hone in on that telling scene in "Chapter 4." Betty, her mother, and Archie's dad all find Archie and Ms. Grundy together, and all the drama unspools from there. But it's Betty's words that cause the most concern. If her mother tells anyone about Archie's secret, Betty vows to say she robbed Ms. Grundy and made it all up. "It will be like I finally snapped," she says. "Like Polly. It will prove what everyone thinks about us. Crazy runs in that family. Like mother, like daughter."
The Theory, in Conclusion
So, here's what I think. Maybe Betty's little alter ego is more than just a fun disguise for torturing football jocks. I think she has a split personality - one that she's not even aware of - that may have developed from the trauma of her sister's breakdown. I think there's a chance Betty doesn't know she murdered Jason. She blacked out on the Fourth of July, then Dark Betty took hold and murdered Jason Blossom. It's crazy, but it's exactly the kind of twist a soapy teen drama like Riverdale could pull off.

The Truth Behind Costco’s $5 Rotisserie Chicken
Image Source: Flickr user terren in Virginia
We can always count on Dr. Oz to expose the truth about our favorite foods. He recently investigated the hidden ingredients in rotisserie chicken, and now we finally know why it's so addictive. He teamed up with award-winning writer Mark Schatzker to figure out why Americans can't get enough of the stuff, especially Costco's $5 rotisserie chicken.
The first shocking piece of information is that rotisserie chicken is often processed, in other words, "pre-seasoned in factories," and then shipped to supermarkets, where "an employee can put it on the skewer and cook it." You may already know part of what makes store-bought rotisserie chickens so tasty is that they're on the salty side, but the skin is also flavored with MSG and sugar, among other natural flavors. Similar to potato chips, this combination helps explain why we can never have too much rotisserie chicken. Despite the seemingly scariness of it all, Dr. Oz says it may be "one of the healthiest processed foods out there." And in similar Dr. Oz. fashion, he suggests taking off the skin to keep it healthier. But if that sounds like insanity, add other sides to your plate to avoid overeating.

Serious Question: Should You Wear Socks in Bed?
I have the faintest memories of wearing socks to bed whenever I came down with a fever or got the chills at night when I was younger. My mother had the habit of turning down the heat when we slept and, as someone who gets cold easily, socks were the quickest solution to warming me up. This all ended abruptly one night when my mom caught me wearing a pair to bed. She claimed it was bad for my health (she had read about it in a book) and demanded I take them off before sleeping. My parents are very health conscious and being a kid and all, I obliged and didn't question her reasoning. After that, I hardly ever wore socks to bed and forgot about the incident altogether, until a few days ago. I had read someone else's conundrum surrounding this very same topic and my childhood memories came flooding back to me.
Is the simple act of wearing socks to bed such a big deal?
I had to find a logical, scientific explanation to this. No fashion question is ever too dumb or unimportant to ask - at least, that's what I was telling myself as I searched - and I felt validated when numerous posts popped up with other people wondering the same thing. I wasn't alone. The short answer to the question is: yes, wearing socks to bed is completely fine. In fact (for the insomniacs out there), it might even help you fall asleep faster. Heating up cold feet causes your blood vessels to dilate, which can signal the brain that it's time for bed. In other words, your feet regulate external temperature, so if you're feeling cold, slip on a pair of socks. If you're feeling hot, simply take them off for a better night's rest. It's all about listening to what your body needs.
Although you should always wear clean socks to bed to prevent bacteria from collecting, there is nothing unhealthy about wearing your favorite fuzzy pair to sleep. I'm not only presenting these findings to my mom ASAP tonight, but I'm also buying new socks that I'll happily wear to sleep whenever I want.

Do You Speak the Language of Fashion?

Read the Note a Mom Wrote to a Group of Petty Teenagers She Overheard in Starbucks
"You are smart and you are pretty. It would take nothing from you to also be kind," Michelle Icard wrote in a note to three teenage girls she sat next to in her local Starbucks in May 2016. The mom was enjoying her coffee when she overheard the girls gossiping about various "petty" things while they studied, which she said made her skin crawl.
Icard left Starbucks to go shopping, contemplated the incident, and saw that on her way back past the shop the girls were still sitting there - so she decided to order them drinks and write them a note. She approached them and said: "You don't know me but it looks like you're here studying and I wrote you a note of encouragement."
I sat near you today in Starbucks and listened as you talked. You three are obviously pretty and hard-working. I wish your kindness matched your pretty exteriors. I heard you talk about a girl who sang a song about being lonely in the talent show - and you laughed. . . . You sounded so mean and petty.
Icard told People: "I think that girls who are really pretty in high school can use that as a way of hiding bad behavior, it's almost like they feel like they have the pretty card so they can get away with it. I wanted to speak their language, but also to show them that you have a lot of power with that prettiness and you can hide behind it or you can be kind and it won't take anything away from you."

11 Obnoxious Things Your 1-Year-Old Will Definitely Do While Flying
The following post was originally featured on Carriage Before Marriage and written by Amy Wruble, who is part of POPSUGAR Collective.
Everybody loves a 1-year-old, unless of course they're on an airplane with one. I remember my Mommy & Me class leader telling us that from age 1 to 2.5, we should make all faraway friends and relatives come to us and avoid flying altogether. So when the invitation arrived for a family wedding 3,000 miles away, and my youngest daughter was still in that age range, I knew I was screwed.
But luckily, my 19-month-old toddler surprised me and was a perfect angel who slept the entire time. Kidding! (And wouldn't you hate me if I wasn't?) No, flying with her was pure hell in the skies, because here's what she and - let's face it - all 1-year-olds really do when you dare to fly with them:
1. Repeatedly kick the seat back in front of you, earning you glares and seething hatred from the affected passenger who is now your mortal enemy and probably creating a brand new Twitter account just to complain about you more publicly.
2. Demand to get "Uhhhhpp!" just as the captain puts the fasten seatbelt light on. Nothing will stop their screaming. All the things that work at home, like getting some fresh air outside or eating ice cream are totally unavailable to you now. Ha ha.
3. Cruise up and down the aisle using strangers' inner thighs as convenient handrails. This will be far more embarrassing for you than for them.
4. Drop their goldfish crackers on the floor and eat them, digesting a mélange of airplane germs, which will incubate for 24 to 48 hours before giving your 1-year-old, and thus your entire family, a nasty virus right in the middle of your vacation.
5. Blow out their diapers - especially if the plane has no changing table. So then you're forced to change them on your own lap. Hope you brought a big plastic tarp! You didn't? That's okay, your white pants will do nicely.

Is a Pooping Stool the Answer to Your Bloating Issues?
Recently at a good friend's dinner party, while using her bathroom I noticed a stool next to the toilet. Her kids were way past the small-kid stage of needing a step in order to clamber onto the potty seat, so I made a casual joke about her needing it after one too many glasses of wine. She pulled me aside, got a very serious look on her face, and said, "No. I use it. To poop."
And there you have it. My mind was blown right then and there. As she explained how she used the stool - thankfully sparing me any specific details - it made total sense. Get ready because I'm about to lay down some serious bathroom talk.
The issue with sitting while having a bowel movement is that it totally blocks the flow from your colon. We all have a Puborectalis muscle that squeezes around the place where the colon meets the rectum, helping to maintain continence (it prevents solid waste from falling out until you're ready). Sitting only allows that muscle to partially relax, which is why it can take people a long time sitting (and straining) for anything to happen. When your body can assume a squatting position with your knees above your hips, it relaxes the Puborectalis muscle fully and allows your colon to empty quickly and completely.
There are even slanted stools specifically designed for this purpose, like the Squatty Potty. This space-saver has a cutout in the middle so it fits around your toilet when you're not using it. You can also buy a regular step stool so no one knows what you're using it for; just make sure it's the right height, allowing a comfortable squatting position.
Beginner squatters can keep their bum resting on the seat, but for those more adventurous types, you can try putting all your weight on the stool and actually squatting (heck, you'll get in a great butt and thigh workout while you're at it!). And don't feel frustrated if things don't go as planned on your first go at it - this could take some time to figure out the right stool height and feet positioning. And you might be surprised how much more you can eliminate from the simple act of opening up your hips. If constipation is all too familiar, this may be the cure to your digestive woes.
If you've never heard of using a stool for your stool, your skepticism is understandable. But hey, if you made it this far reading all about squatting while pooping, there's some part of you that's intrigued and can't wait until the urge comes on so you can try it for yourself. One thing we can all agree on is that it's amazing what taking a proper poop first thing in the morning can do for the soul - it sets the tone for the entire day. You owe it to yourself, and those around you to have a happier morning by giving this a try. It could change the way you poop forever.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton Are So Damn Cute It's Almost Annoying
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hilarie Burton have been together since 2009, but they tend to keep their romance pretty private. Aside from the occasional red carpet outing, these two don't step out together too often. But when they do, they always have a good time (like, a really good time). In addition to the Walking Dead actor constantly goofing around and making Hilarie laugh, the One Tree Hill actress frequently plants sweet kisses on her man (and that nuzzling in his neck? FORGET ABOUT IT). The pair, who welcomed son Augustus in March 2010, are so protective of their personal life that they've never confirmed if they're married or not (they probably are). While it can sometimes get annoying when couples are overly gushy in public, these two are just so damn cute because they genuinely seem like best friends. Keep reading to see what we mean.

Put an End to Bloat - 10 Foods to Avoid Before the Big Day
The dress is bought, the final fitting has happened - the last thing you want is to feel puffy and bloated as you walk down the aisle. While you may have kept up with your already-healthy diet and lifestyle in the months leading up to the wedding, certain foods have been shown to leave the body feeling a little swollen around the seams. A good rule of thumb is to stick to a basic elimination diet during the two weeks before the wedding, but if that's too much to ask, try cutting out a few of the following foods before your big day.

The Biggest Mistakes Trainers See in the Gym
We've all chuckled at the videos online. Inevitably, there's people who go to the gym who do some seriously wacky things that you can't help but laugh at. Jokes aside, imagine being a personal trainer and seeing these mistakes regularly on a daily basis. Let's be clear: perfection is not expected when you go to the gym, but knowing how you can improve is important. A good trainer has to speak up when they see potentially dangerous errors, but it's not as easy as it sounds. For this story, we polled as many trainers as we could to get a list of the most common and biggest mistakes most trainers see on a daily basis. Here's what you need to watch for next time you hit the gym.
Expecting to Look Like a Chiseled Statue
"A lot of clients come in and say 'I want to look like so and so,'" said Natalie Carey, certified trainer and sports nutritionist at Diakadi Fitness. "But in truth, the amount of work and discipline that goes into those bodies is overwhelming to most." Celebrities and elite athletes train like beasts, eating highly regimented diets and working out for hours on end. "Their whole lives revolve around these plans to look the way they do," said Natalie.
Instead of getting down on yourself for not having a six-pack after a month of training, Natalie encourages clients to instead "focus on the changes you see in yourself!" But if you can't let go of getting abs and arms like Gwen Stefani, "be prepared to put in some very hard but extremely rewarding work!"
You Let Yourself Get Distracted
You're guilty of this. Don't deny it. We all are. With all the tech we carry around these days, it's so easy to drop out in the middle of your training to check for incoming texts, or we focus more on the person next to us at the gym.
Stopping in the middle of a workout is never a good thing. Your body is primed, your heart rate is elevated, you're in the fat-burning zone, and then you stop suddenly. This can cause a lot of strain on the heart for the same reasons a person shouldn't skip a cooldown.
One trainer we spoke with told us that when we are in the middle of a workout, the body is sending blood to the muscles to deliver nutrients. When you bluntly cut that effort and exertion off, your heart has to work extra hard to pump all of that blood back up. It is always best to keep going and then slow down gradually.
You're Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again
"Our bodies are incredibly smart," said Billy Polson, founder and co-owner of Diakadi Fitness. "You must routinely tweak your exercise program in order to avoid plateaus. I recommend changing your routine at least every six weeks." Not doings so puts you at risk for hitting a plateau and not seeing the results you want.
Some of Billy's suggestions for keeping things fresh: change up the exercises you do and the number of reps and sets performed of each movement, alter your rest periods between exercises, or change the tempo to which you move during an exercise.
You're Skipping the Warmup
Here's another one we're all guilty of: jumping right into a strenuous exercise without a proper warmup. Don't do this; it's just a bad idea. While a warmup might not seem that important, that's just not true. A proper warmup will prime your body for what's to come. It's meant to get the blood flowing and warm the muscles, making your body ready to take on exercise and help prevent injury.
Bottom line: when you warm up properly, this will help you perform better, whether you are doing cardio or weights. With weight training, working with cold muscles can really inhibit your form and range of motion, so be sure to do a few dynamic stretches before jumping into anything. For cardio, start with two minutes of light-intensity movement and your heart will thank you later.
You're Going Too Fast
We get it: sometimes you just want to get your workout over with so you can get on with your day. Time is short, and maybe your workouts are as well, but rushing through them won't get you to where you want to be.
Any trainer will tell you to take your time to do it right. Don't rush through your reps and don't take those squats halfway into the movement (you know who you are). Give it everything you've got and slow down! Keeping your muscles under tension just a bit longer will ensure progress. That's why you're there, right? Don't cut time and expect results. Do the work and see your best reflection in the mirror when you're done.

Jason Momoa Jokes That He "Kinda Stalked" Wife Lisa Bonet Before They Met
Ever daydream about meeting your celebrity crush and making them instantly fall in love with you? While that seems like a lovely thought for most people, that's exactly what happened for Jason Momoa and wife Lisa Bonet. The pair has been making us swoon with their romance for more than 11 years now, and the beginning of their love story is just as magical as the memories they've shared in the years since they met. After watching her on The Cosby Show while growing up, the Justice League actor admits his crush on her stayed with him until they were finally introduced in 2005. "I was definitely . . . that was the first time when I was like, 'I want that one. I want her. I'm going to get her,'" he told Katie Couric of watching the show in 2014. "I didn't tell her until after we had our two children. But I told her . . . 'I kinda stalked ya. I was going to find ya.'"
Jason also opened up about the exact moment they crossed paths in 2005, telling The YBF, "We met through mutual friends. But when I first met her, she didn't know I was a stalker, but I was. I was with one of my best friends and when I turned around, and they were going to introduce us, literally, like, fireworks. She said, 'Hi, I'm Lisa,' and I said, 'Hi, I'm Jason,' and I just turn around to my buddy like . . . [freaking out]. Inside, I was like a little girl and I [deepened my voice] and tried to pull it together. She definitely makes me shy." It's official: nobody will ever be as romantic as Jason Momoa.

The Real Scandal Is How Amazing Kerry Washington Has Always Looked
Kerry Washington has been on our radar since the early 2000s, when she graced the screen as single mom Chenille in Save the Last Dance (such a classic). Since then, she's starred in critically acclaimed films like Ray, For Colored Girls, and Django Unchained and has us completely captivated with her role as Olivia Pope on the ABC hit show Scandal, for which she's received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Off screen, Kerry's life has been pretty golden as well; she and husband Nnamdi Asomugha welcomed their daughter Isabelle in April 2014, and became parents again when their son Caleb was born in October 2016.
Like the rest of us, Kerry fell victim to some of the more unfortunate fashion trends in the 2000s - like denim maxi skirts, woven belts, and skinny scarves - but she's clearly come out on the other side. In addition to her fashion prowess, Kerry has a megawatt smile, a killer sense of humor, and an inspiring dedication to politics and the arts. Read through for photos of Kerry's Hollywood evolution.

Before La La Land, Ryan Gosling Got an Oscar Nomination For 1 Other Movie
The 2017 Oscar nominations were announced in January, and Ryan Gosling is among the insanely talented group of men up for best actor for his role in La La Land. The enchanting film also scored a whopping 14 nominations in total, including best picture, best director for Damien Chazelle, and best actress for Emma Stone. But while we are already looking forward to seeing Gosling at this year's show (and crossing our fingers that he brings Eva Mendes as his date), this won't be the actor's first Oscars rodeo. The actor was actually nominated for best actor in 2007 for his role in Half Nelson, which is about a well-liked high school teacher with a drug problem. He lost out to Forest Whitaker for The Last King of Scotland, but since he already won the Golden Globe this year for La La Land, this could very well be his year.
