Adrienne's Dramatic Before and After Is a Total "Eff You" to the Scale

We've said it before: a number on a scale doesn't mean anything. More proof of this? Adrienne Osuna's two-pound weight loss, and her total body transformation.

Adrienne: Before (182 Pounds)

As a mom of four boys, Adrienne had struggled with yo-yo dieting and weight gain after her pregnancies. "After I had my babies I had lost and gained again about 80 pounds," Adrienne told POPSUGAR via email. "I was tired of dieting and always only caring what the scale said. I was tired, often sick, and very unhappy with how I looked and felt."

"I finally decided I was going to focus on what my body could do and what it's capable of instead of what it weighed - and I started heavy lifting."

Not only was she feeling terrible, but her relationship with the scale was also extremely unhealthy. "After baby number four I lost 62 of the pounds and reached 182, at which point my body was done. I was not eating enough. My metabolism was shot. I was training for my third half-marathon, breastfeeding, and barely eating 1200 to 1400 calories a day. If I messed up one day on my diet or the scale wouldn't move, I'd binge."

Six months post-pregnancy, Adrienne made a decision to change her focus, and it changed her life. Her lightbulb idea? Weightlifting. "I had wanted to start powerlifting but was scared I would gain a bunch of muscle and look bulky and manly, but I finally decided I was going to focus on what my body could do and what it's capable of instead of what it weighed - and I started heavy lifting."

Adrienne: After (180 Pounds)

Weightlifting is what transformed Adrienne's body. Her fears of looking "manly" proved to be unfounded, but she was still put off by the number on the scale. "After a few months friends and family kept telling me I was shrinking and losing weight, but I kept saying 'I wish! The scale hasn't moved!'" Then it dawned on her - her body was changing, regardless of her weight.

"Finally I realized all my clothes were too big! I compared pictures and couldn't believe my eyes." (Another reason to take those before and progress pictures!) Adrienne realized that she was "almost the same weight but dramatically different" in shape and appearance. "Then I realized what was happening, and it fueled me. It also made me want to share with other ladies the scale is not the ultimate factor in your success."

Adrienne: Before and After

Adrienne had mentioned on Instagram that she didn't diet to get her transformation (she attributes it all to weight lifting) but told POPSUGAR that she does "generally eat pretty healthy." She doesn't follow a strict diet, but has been dabbling in intermittent fasting.

"I eat a lot protein and veggies, but I also enjoy treats and don't restrict myself," she said. "A key part of me is I do intermittent fasting. It helps me to not have late night snacks, and to keep the amount of food I consume in check without having to meticulously track every item I eat." She told us she started this plan six months into her weight lifting journey, and credits intermittent fasting and her lifting regimen as "an amazing combination to burn fat."

"The scale is not the ultimate factor in your success."

"I currently fast overnight 15 hours," she said. "Usually from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m., six nights a week - I do have coffee with a little heavy cream in the morning during my fasted state." She also told POPSUGAR that her exercise routine consists of lifting four days a week, and doing cardio exercises two days a week, with one rest day. "I currently do a combination of powerlifting training and bodybuilding," she said.

And the best part of this whole thing? She says "I feel so amazing. I am happy, healthy, and comfortable in my own skin. I love seeing how much more I can lift, it's so empowering to me." That's a much better mark of success than a smaller number on the scale, in our book. And she agrees - "I really want women to know that the scale should not be the only factor they go off of," she said. "They should take measurements and pictures and go based on how they feel and look! Freedom from the scale is so liberating!"

9 Cast Members Who Are Coming Back For The Vampire Diaries Finale

The final season of The Vampire Diaries has been full of fun throwbacks, and it seems like the finale will be just as nostalgic. Not only will Nina Dobrev be back, but there are quite a few other familiar faces returning as well. Even though we're not entirely sure how Elena will break out of her sleeping curse, Julie Plec has confirmed a handful of details about how the series will come to a close - including the death of a major character. Perhaps, that's the reason for some of these big reunions? As you count down the weeks until the finale, familiarize yourself with the returning cast here.

Just How Many Black Actors Have Won an Oscar? The Number Is Disturbingly Low

Image Source: Getty / Lee Celano

With nominees like Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Ruth Negga, and Mahershala Ali rounding out the acting categories, Sunday night's Academy Awards could potentially deliver the most diverse set of winners in years. The Oscars have been plagued by obvious race issues since they began in 1929, and things seemingly came to a head with the #OscarsSoWhite discussion a couple of years ago; the overwhelming lack of diversity in nominees in both 2015 and 2016 resulted in Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs taking bigger, more noticeable steps to double the number of diverse members in its voting body by 2020.

Nevertheless, a black actor (the incomparable Sidney Poitier) wasn't awarded until 1964, and it was only in 2002 that Halle Berry became the first black woman to win a best actress trophy. So, just how many black actors have won Oscars over the years? Fourteen. A whopping fourteen distinguished, talented people in 87 years. Scroll through to see who they are and learn about the records they've broken.

1940, Hattie McDaniel

The Gone With the Wind star made history when she became the first African-American person to ever win an Oscar. The film's director, David O. Selznick, had to call in a special favor just to have McDaniel allowed into the building (the Ambassador Hotel, where the ceremony was held, did not allow black people), and instead of getting to sit with the rest of the cast and crew, she was escorted to a small table far away and against a wall, which is where she accepted her best supporting actress award.

1964, Sidney Poitier

Thanks to his stellar performance in Lilies of the Field, Poitier became the first black male to win an Oscar in general but also the best actor award.

1983, Louis Gossett Jr.

He is the first black male to win the best supporting actor award for his role in An Officer and a Gentleman.

1990 and 2002, Denzel Washington

Washington took home the best supporting actor trophy for Glory, making him the second black actor to do so. When he won his best actor Oscar for Training Day in 2002, Washington shared a powerful moment of solidarity with Sidney Poitier, who was given a Academy Honorary Award at the ceremony. Washington is the most nominated black actor in Oscars history with seven acting nods since 1987.

1991, Whoopi Goldberg

The comedian won best supporting actress for her role as Oda Mae Brown in Ghost, and the award was presented to her by Denzel Washington. She had been nominated once before for The Color Purple in 1986, making her the first African-American female to earn two acting nominations.

1997, Cuba Gooding Jr.

Yes, before he hit the small screen in The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Gooding won the best supporting actor award for Jerry Maguire. He was only 29 at the time, making him the youngest African-American male actor to win an Academy Award.

2002, Halle Berry

Berry's win for Monster's Ball marked the second time a black woman took home an Oscar and the first time two black actors won in leading role categories in the same year (Denzel Washington also won for Training Day). She gave a heartfelt, emotional speech that is memorable for its earnest homage to the women who came before her. "This moment is so much bigger than me," Berry told the crowd through tears. "This moment is for Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diahann Carroll. It's for the women that stand beside me, Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica Fox. And it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."

2005, Jamie Foxx

Foxx swept award season for his outstanding portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray, and his Oscar win added to the pile. He also became the first African-American actor to receive two acting nominations in the same year (he also scored a best supporting actor nod for Collateral).

2005, Morgan Freeman

After nabbing the best supporting actor award for Million Dollar Baby, Freeman became the oldest black actor to win an Oscar at 67 years old.

2007, Forest Whitaker

Whitaker beat out Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith when he won the best actor award for his role in The Last King of Scotland.

2007, Jennifer Hudson

Her performance in Dreamgirls nabbed Hudson a best supporting actress win at just 25 years old, making her the youngest African-American actor to win an Oscar. It also happened to be her first-ever movie role.

2010, Mo'Nique

The comedic actress surprised audiences with her very, very serious role in Precious, for which she won the best supporting actress award.

2012, Octavia Spencer

The actress, who is nominated this year for her role in Hidden Figures, won the best supporting actress award for The Help. The movie is the third to produce nominees for both best supporting and best actress (Viola Davis).

2014, Lupita Nyong'o

For her role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave, the Kenyan actress became the first black African to be nominated for an acting Oscar and win in any category. It also marked special significance for being Nyong'o's first major movie role.

Every Win and Nomination La La Land Has Scored So Far

La La Land has already made history, breaking the record for most Golden Globes won by a single film after snagging all seven of the awards it was nominated for. In January, the spectacular film was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, tying with All About Eve and Titanic for the most nominations of all time. 10 Things To Do When Your Toddler Is a Picky Eater

Are you raising a picky eater? These tips from our friends at Fatherly will make sure your kid grows up to love food.

Raising a picky eater can feel like you're being insulted by that food critic from Ratatouille multiple times a day. Slaved over a hot grill to make an amazing steak? This looks like something that could have been scraped from a shoe, remove it at once! Produced an omelet to die for? What folded abomination have you laid upon the table? It goes to the floor! Made a peanut butter and jelly as a last ditch? This would have been perfect save for being desecrated by the presence of crust! Commence tantrum!

The problem, however, is that internalizing the actions of a picky eater can make the issue worse. Because the more uptight you get about your kid eating, the less likely your kid will eat. Here are 10 ways to make sure that doesn't happen.

Don't Be A Short-Order Cook

You know, those guys behind the spinny ticket thing at your local diner. They can make you a passable taco platter while also slinging a pretty good chicken fried steak. But you're a parent and you shouldn't treat your kid like a customer ready to smack with your a 1-star Yelp review. Make stuff that you and your partner will dig. Make it healthy and then add something you know your kid will eat. That's it.

Don't Stress Too Much

You and your partner's job is to put a variety of good healthy food on the table at regularly scheduled and reasonable intervals. Your kid's job is to decide if they're going to eat it. And then how much of it they're going to eat. Once you get to that place, your job is to chill the hell out. If you need to have a cocktail to calm down, go ahead and have 2.

Don't Be A Food Pusher

Concurrent with you being the most chill dinner companion the world has ever seen, you do not want to spend the whole time badgering your kid to eat something. Not only will it cause them to loathe dinner, it will also cause you to loathe dinner. It's possible that this could also create an epic power struggle. And just like you never want to get involved in a land war in Asia, you never want to get into a power struggle with a toddler. Ask them once to go ahead and take a teeny bite. Then move along.

Don't Bargain

You don't know the meaning of backfire until you've bribed and bargained with your kid at the dinner table. Before long, they'll eventually just want to skip the eating-stuff-they-hate part and jump straight to the reward. Because bargaining shows a weakness on your part. And toddlers are masters at exploiting weakness.

Don't Give Up

There's an old picky-eater saying: It can take 15 tries before they eat something other than fries. Actually, that's not a saying. But it is a true thing. 15 appears to be the magic number of tastes that need to transpire before a picky kid will actually come around to liking something, or not. So keep those peas coming to the plate.

(Note that this number does not hold true for other things in life. So maybe quit asking your partner about butt-stuff)

Get Them Involved

Take your kid shopping and let them pick out some things they may want to try. Pull a chair up to the kitchen counter and let them "help" you prepare. Let them set or "decorate" the dinner table. Maybe let them pick out the dinner music. Just get them invested in the process. In the end, you might still have a picky eater but also an inspired future restaurateur. Your kid could be the next David Chang. Though that would make you one lucky peach.

Give Them The Benefit Of the Doubt

It's possible that your kid is well and truly disgusted by something they are putting in their mouth. That's because your kid may be overly sensitive to flavors and smells. This particularly happens with kids who are affected by mental disabilities like autism. Of course, just because your kid seems honestly disgusted by a food that doesn't mean they have autism. So don't freak out.

Also, remember that trying new stuff is hard. Kids get freaked out by putting something they've never seen into their face. You would too. Don't think that's true? Well then everyone looks forward to seeing you happily chowing cricket flour cookies without hesitation.

Start Super Small

If you're offering something new, start out super small. No, smaller than you're thinking right now. And then let them spit it out into a cup if they aren't digging it. Then try again in a couple of days. If they do start eating it, you can bump up the size until they are chomping whole broccoli heads.

Make Dinner Fun

The best thing about not giving so many craps about what and how much your kid is eating is that dinner can start being fun. So go ahead and tell knock-knock jokes that don't make sense. Make animal noises. Converse. Make it a game. When you're not yelling, and your kid isn't melting down, things get way better.

Rebrand

If you're looking to get your kid into something new, try calling it something else. For instance, some researchers discovered that you can get kids to eat more carrots by calling them x-ray vision carrots. So maybe, massive muscle meatballs? The sky's the limit!

Finally, if you're seriously concerned that there's a deeper problem for your kid not eating, call your pediatrician. There are interventions for kids who refuse food to the point of it being harmful. But this probably isn't your kid. It's far more likely they're practicing to be the world's most withering, rat-befriending food critic.

48 Hot Guys Who Prove 1 Little Wink Can Go a Long Way

There's something so hot about a wink, right? It's definitely something of an art form; when a well-crafted wink comes courtesy of a superhot guy, it can make you melt almost instantly. Hell, even a wonky, "He doesn't really know how to wink, does he?" squint can still put a few butterflies in your stomach - we're talking to you, Kit Harington. For no reason at all, here are hot celebrity guys whose winks will leave you weak in the knees.

This Hero Baby Spotted His Mother's Breast Cancer Before Doctors Did

26-year-old Sarah Boyle says she knew something was wrong when her son 6-month-old son, Teddy, became extremely fussy whenever she tried to breastfeed him from her right breast. "He became very unhappy and even hit out," she told the BBC. "For an 8-month-old baby to push his mother away was really heartbreaking."

In 2013, Boyle was diagnosed with a benign cyst in her right breast, so after Teddy's refusal to breast feed from it, she insisted that the doctors re-scan the "stacked-disc"-like cyst a second time. "I remember saying to Steven, my husband, I've noticed this little change, it's a different shape," she said, referring to the shape of her right breast. "I said, you know, I'm going to go back to the doctors."

Turns out, she was right to follow up on her suspicions. The doctors discovered Boyle had grade two triple negative breast cancer.

Boyle is currently receiving chemotherapy at Royal Stoke University Hospital and will undergo a double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. "Nobody can say for certain whether it was Teddy," she said. "But I know that if it wasn't for him then this time next year it could've been completely different if I'd listened to doctors, but instead I listened to Teddy. [It's] Because of him that I'm now being treated."

Your Slow Cooker Isn't the Only Kitchen Device Connecting to WiFi

Sous vide refers to the the process of submerging vacuum-sealed foods in water and slow cooking them to retain the most moisture and flavor possible. Sounds awesome, but if you're clueless as to where to begin, you may want to invest in a Sansaire Delta ($199), shipping Sept. of this year. The hot water circulator, beyond having a slick touchscreen, has the added bonus of being Wi-Fi enabled.

By downloading the Sansaire app to your phone you can "interact with the device," setting the temperature and time of the sous vide machine whether you are in your kitchen or "cooking" away from home. The app also features tons of recipes so you can easily access precise instructions on how to cook your staple meals like steak, eggs, and salmon.

If you can't possibly wait until the Fall, Nomiku has a wifi-enabled sous vide machine ($250), available now at Williams-Sonoma, that interacts with the Tender app.

This Haunting Cover of "The Scientist" Is 1 of the Best Parts of Fifty Shades Darker

Even if you don't care about Fifty Shades Darker, you have to admit that the soundtrack is fantastic. There's Zayn and Taylor Swift's collaboration, Halsey's "Not Afraid Anymore," and this gem of a cover from Corinne Bailey Rae. The singer puts her own spin on Coldplay's 2002 hit, and it's a gorgeous version of a song that, to be honest, we already loved. Check it out!

Get Out Isn't the Only Place You've Seen Actor Lakeith Stanfield

If you're a scary movie fan, chances are you're already (or soon to be) obsessed with Get Out. Directed by comedian Jordan Peele, it's not your average horror film. It's a terrifying, complex, and genre-bending debut for Peele and features stellar performances from all of its leads, including Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, and Bradley Whitford. One of the more minor but incredibly important characters falls on the shoulders of Lakeith Stanfield. The 25-year-old actor and rapper plays Andrew "Logan" King, a young black man (pictured above, left) who gets kidnapped within the film's first few minutes and pops up later at a party hosted by the parents of Rose (Williams), who brought her black boyfriend (Kaluuya) home for the first time. Stanfield's performance will not only leave you deeply unsettled but also probably wondering where you've seen him before.

Most recently, Stanfield appeared in the first season of Donald Glover's popular FX series Atlanta as stoned scene-stealer Darius. It seems like Stanfield has a habit of stealing scenes no matter what he's doing, though. In 2013, he made his feature-film debut in Short Term 12 (which earned him a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards), and he later impressed everyone with his spot-on portrayal of Snoop Dogg in Straight Outta Compton and an inspiring role in Selma as Jimmie Lee Jackson. In December, he crashed the stage at the Critics' Choice Awards when Silicon Valley took home the best comedy series trophy instead of Atlanta, instantly launching him to award show infamy. You'll have to wait a few months before he stars in Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town (due out later this year), so if you're jonesing for more Stanfield in your life, you'll just have to go see Get Out again.

Hilary Duff Just Went Icy Blonde - And It Looks Absolutely Amazing

Image Source: Film Magic / Michael Tran

Who doesn't remember a golden-hued Hilary Duff from her Disney days? While she's experimented with a variety of colors over the years - brunette, teal, lavender - the Younger actress just traded her root-heavy ombré locks for bright, icy blonde. Riawna Capri, co-owner of Nine Zero One salon in West Hollywood, said she lifted Hilary about nine levels, from a dark brown to a super light, icy blonde. She used the new Joico's Blonde Life line (available March 1), which includes a powder lightener that claims to safely and quickly lift your client's color without heat. The collection also includes shampoo, conditioner and a mask - which aren't violet, by the way.

Riawna told us she used about 150 foils on Hilary to achieve a dramatic transformation. "I didn't use any products: I didn't use a leave-in conditioner, or a shine serum, and it was shiny!" she said. "I bleached the f*ck out of her hair, and it felt so good. I didn't even trim her hair."

Hilary has been taking a hiatus from work in between shooting Younger, which starts filming again in April. "I've had the biggest break I've ever taken," said Hilary. "I film in New York, so I'm away from my kid a lot, that I was like, 'I just want to come home and pack lunches, and do school drop offs and pick ups,'" she said. "I have a few passion products that I've been working on the side, that I can't really talk about yet, but it's more fun girly stuff. Not acting, not singing," she teased.

Kelly Rowland's Secret to Staying Sane With a Busy Schedule

Between being a full-time mom, recording artist, X-Factor UK judge, and recent star of the Lifetime film Love by the Tenth Date, it's safe to say that Kelly Rowland is extremely busy. But despite the many hats the multifaceted star juggles on a regular basis, she still finds time to raise awareness for issues close to her heart (literally).

Kelly recently teamed up with Burlington Stores and WomenHeart to raise awareness about the importance of women's heart health. The partnership comes in lieu of Heart Health Month, but when we spoke with Kelly she revealed that it is much more personal. During our chat, she shared that the loss of her mom makes her new initiative with WomenHeart all the more important. We also got a chance to learn how she keeps her body (and mind!) in shape despite her jam-packed schedule. Read on for more of Kelly's tips and advice!

Who Is Brie Larson's Beloved Fiancé? You Probably Already Know Him

Last year's Oscar winner for best actress, Brie Larson, was award season's It Girl after she swept all the major award shows for her role in Room, and we wanted to know everything about her, and not just all the movies we'd seen her in. With Brie back on the scene as an Oscar presenter this year and to promote her new film, Kong: Skull Island, we're back to admiring her and her handsome fiancé, Alex Greenwald. Last year, Brie shouted out her love for her man in her Oscars acceptance speech (and she revealed that they were engaged shortly afterward), so you might still be wondering, who is this guy? Well, if you're any fan of pop culture, you probably know about Alex, you just don't know how yet.

Check Out This Year's First-Time Oscar Nominees

Every year, the Oscars bring a rush of enthusiasm about Hollywood's most buzzed-about cinematic masterpieces. This time around, the list of nominees features quite a bit of excitement. In addition to a notably diverse group compared to 2016, Viola Davis also became the first black actress to get three nods, and La La Land earned 14 nominations, thereby tying the record held by Titanic, Ben-Hur, and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. As always, there's something else to note about this year's potential winners: 10 of them are vying for their very first Oscar! Keep reading to see all the first-time nominees.

There Is a Beauty and the Beast Nail Polish Collection Launching - and It's Enchanting

Here's a tale as old as time: a Disney remake movie is released and multiple beauty brands create collections inspired by it. On March 17, the much-anticipated Beauty and the Beast live-action movie opens, and you can bet beauty companies are feeding the obsession.

To kick it off, we have an exclusive first look at a seven-shade, Beauty and the Beast-themed collection. The line hails from sister brands Gelish Gel Polish ($13) and Morgan Taylor Professional Nail Lacquer ($9), featuring some seriously dreamy hues.

There is Be Our Guest (creamy pink), The Last Petal (pearly red), Gaston And On And On (baby blue), Days in the Sun (bright yellow), and Potts of Tea (alabaster). The most standout of all is Enchanted Patina, a specialty overlay coat that changes the color beneath it to look more "antique." It gives a nod to the Baroque details seen in the film set, and it can also be worn on its own.

As early testers, we tried Be Our Guest topped with an Enchanted Patina nail art design, and the results (which you can see here) were spectacular. It created a rose-copper finish, and we can't wait to play with more combinations!

Though the offering does not launch until February 2017 at gelish.com and morgantaylorlacquer.com, you can get a sneak peek right here, right now (spills included!).

To the Parents I Judged Before I Was a Parent: I'm Sorry

There I was, a 30-year-old woman who taught preschool and was a private tutor, walking down the aisles at Target when I saw her.

She was a woman with a toddler - no older than 3 - and in the middle of Winter her toddler was gasp - Not. Wearing. Shoes! He just hung out in the shopping cart with his dangling freezing tootsies.

It's Winter, I thought. What is she thinking? I made my silent smug judgment, picked up my one item I went into Target for, although I left with 50 other things, and walked away knowing I would never do that!

Not me, I said.

It was a lovely Summer night, and I was out to dinner at a romantic location with my ex who was my husband at the time. Sitting at a table next to us was a family of three: a wife, husband, and a 4-year-old girl. She was adorable but utterly loud. No amount of preschool experience could help me tune out this kid. Waiters thought she was cute, but me? Nope. She was my nemesis. All I wanted was to enjoy a glass of wine and some penne pasta, but this kid with her yammering was ruining the "mood" I was trying to set with the hubby. Eye roll.

I started to daydream of how I could entice this kid out of the restaurant. Maybe dangle Mickey Mouse on a fishing pole out the door? Tell her Santa Claus was in the parking lot.

Why do people have to bring their kids to regular adult restaurants? I told the husband. Why can't they go to Friendly's or Pizza Hut? Don't they know better?

I'd never do that. Not me.

Oh, the smugness! The ignorance!

Let's not forget the spectacular backseat parenting I did when you know, I had barely parented a Chia pet.

As I watched a mom shove a lollipop into her whiny kid's mouth while at the doctor's, I broke out my Rules on How to Parent.

"I'd never do that with my kid. Tell him to be quiet and redirect him. She's just trying to shut him up, but instead, she's spoiling him," I thought to myself.

That was said and done with an - eek - shake of my head.

I'd never do that. Not me.

Then there was the time one of the parents of my students told me, "Oh junior likes to sleep with us from time to time. Actually, pretty much every night. He's having a hard time getting out of our bed."

He's in kindergarten, I thought. It's time to cut the cord already. If I were MOM OF THE YEAR, I would give him the boot already. How do his parents have sex?

I'm never doing that, I thought.

In fact, just keep inserting ways I, the person who had never changed a diaper, silently judged (or sometimes not so silently) parents - whether it was about eating habits or clothing choices. Apparently, I had forgotten to tell the world that I knew everything about parenting.

Well, to the woman at Target, the wife and husband dining with their kid, the lollipop mom, cosleeping parents, and pretty much everyone I advised on what to do when I knew zilch about zilch:

I'm sorry!

There I was, in the middle of Target approximately four years after I witnessed the horrifying sight of a toddler's bare toes in the middle of the Winter, with my very own toddler dressed in a dress in the middle of last year's polar vortex. She had a coat on, but no hat. As I pulled up to pay for my items, an elderly lady touched my daughter's head (oh lady, don't you go there! Parenting pet peeve!) and said to me, "She needs a hat."

I'd like to tell you that I graciously smiled, but really I dreamed of choking that woman and telling her to go wear her own hat. Instead, I nodded and said, "Uh-huh," while paying for my goods.

You see, like many kids, my kid hates to be bundled up, which is something I didn't know when I was "Laura Know-It-All," and we had a major war over the hat and dress. I tried getting her to wear flannel-lined jeans and a hat. I actually prayed to the god (goddess) of Cinderella I was so desperate. After a screaming match and battle of the wills, I gave up.

Karma was a b*tch, indeed.

Not me? Oh, yes! Yes, me!

And four years after I saw that couple eating out at a romantic restaurant with their kid, there I was at an Italian restaurant, desperately hungry and dying to do something with other adult people. Of course, I didn't have anyone to watch my kid like so many other parents, so I did what I had to in order to converse with someone over 2 years of age: I brought my child. And what did she do?

She got up and danced and sang at high-decibel levels. No one seemed to mind that (I guess they weren't all a bunch of judgmental jerks like I was), but of course, my daughter mooned everyone at the end of "her song" to add more of a burlesque element to her show.

To the keeper of the universe: Ha ha - you really got me, didn't you?

Let's not forget the many times during my daughter's first year and a half of life in which I decided to not leave her in her bed, but instead, pop a boob in her mouth and bring her to sleep with me. Why? I was tired and lazy. Teething was a b*tch, and I was its slave.

There I was on my phone, telling my sister why I didn't think it was such a big deal to cosleep sometimes as she was telling me "Tisk-tisk, she'll want to stay in your bed forever."

Now at almost 4 years old, I still invite my little one to sleep with me as a special treat on the weekends from time to time, or when she wakes up early and this single divorced mommy is too tired to parent. Instead, I let Mickey Mouse take my job, and we hang in bed while I sleep and she watches.

To the parent who I shook my head at and judged: who's the one with the full bed now? Hmm.

Let's not forget the time I brought my daughter into Victoria's Secret to pick up a bra because heaven forbid a mother shop with her child, and she ran around trying the bras on her head. Or when I brought her to the register and a young couple swooped down to say how cute she was, and as I told her to tell them hello, she yelled, "No!" and gave them a face only a mother could love.

(And trust me with that grimace it takes a lot of work to feel love for that mug!)

Or the time she decided to do a toddler-version exercise routine that only Richard Simmons could love in the middle of a busy Manhattan restaurant. To add insult to injury, it was a freezing-cold day out, and she didn't want to wear her coat. As I took her out of the restaurant coat-less, I saw the hostess' face wince.

And there I saw myself, just five years before. I wanted to grab her by the arm and whisper, "Your time is coming honey. Just you wait. One day, your kid will be flashing her 'boobies' at age 2 in the middle of Starbucks."

Of course, this time, I won't judge.

This Song From Get Out Will Haunt You For the Rest of Your Days

One of the many things from Get Out that will stay with you is the music. Donald Glover's "Redbone" is played, and there's a creepy sequence with "Run Rabbit Run" by Flanagan and Allen, but the song that I can't get out of my head is actually part of the film's original score. It plays during the main credits and at the end of the film, and it's called "Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga." Writer/director Jordan Peele talked about the song in a recent interview with GQ:

"It's Swahili, actually. It's such a cool track. I was into this idea of distinctly black voices and black musical references, so it's got some African influences, and some bluesy things going on, but in a scary way, which you never really hear. African-American music tends to have, at the very least, a glimmer of hope to it - sometimes full-fledged hope. I wanted Michael Abels, who did the score, to create something that felt like it lived in this absence of hope but still had [black roots]. And I said to him, 'You have to avoid voodoo sounds, too.'

The words are issuing a warning to Chris. The whole idea of the movie is 'Get out!' - it's what we're screaming at the character on-screen. They go, 'Brother, brother,' in English, and then something to the effect of, 'Watch your back. Something's coming, and it ain't good.'"

It's definitely not good, you guys.

15 Sad Signs You're A Single Married Mom

Ever feel alone in your marriage? Our friends at YourTango share some relatable feelings.

Sometimes, you can be just as lonely when you sit next to someone who's supposed to love you.

Having talked to a lot of housewives in my day, I've noticed a strange trend among these ladies that's made me rethink marriage altogether. Though they may have that wedding ring I so covet, and though their husbands promised they'd never leave their sides, these women don't act taken.

I don't mean that in the sense of them being flirtatious; rather, they act like they are only person in the household who is putting in any adult effort, and that makes them act more like bachelors than wives.

Most of the moms I meet act single, primarily because their husbands leave them alone for so long that they may as well have never married at all. I call these ladies "married single moms," and I don't envy them. After all, it's really hard to see why they'd bother staying married when they basically live alone in their marriage.

If you notice these signs, you're a married single mom...and you might want to rethink your relationship so you can find a husband who actually acts like a partner rather than dead weight.

1. The vast majority of childcare and housework is done by you...and you don't get a break.

Here's the thing about being a housewife that a lot of guys don't get: it takes a lot of work. Moms who don't get breaks and don't have husbands who pitch in often feel like they're the only ones doing work and that will cause resentment, big time.

2. Actually, you're in charge of the childcare, housework, and income.

This is the point where you may just want to admit that your husband is dead weight in the relationship. If you were to leave him, he'd be the one suffering, not you.

3. You resent your husband for sleeping in on the weekends and going out for days at a time, primarily because you don't ever get to do the same.

There's something to be said about being left alone for days or weeks at a time. It is lonely, and it often indicates that your husband is not taking your needs into account. If you constantly feel like you're being forced to "hold down the fort" but never get thanks for it, you're a married single mom.

4. You stopped expecting him to actually make time for date night, or even dinner.

This is a sign that you've subconsciously just given up hope on him actually being there for you. At this point, you might want to ask yourself if you're actually getting anything out of the relationship.

5. When a household fixture breaks, you're the one who will take care of it...and you're so used to it that you no longer even bother telling him about it.

If this is the norm, and it's not because you enjoy fixing things, congrats. You have become both the man and the woman of the house. (Why are you with him again?)

6. You feel like you have an extra child.

Technically, you probably do. It's called a Man-Child, and you married one. This is a particularly rough kind of single mom-dom that can only get better by dropping the kidult and seeking a better partner.

7. He's away for the majority of the week, whether you like it or not.

Though they may have to be away for work, there's a certain point where your relationship will suffer as a result of his absence. Obviously, this can be a good time to ask yourself if you are actually working through it, or if you're just more worried about no one being there for you.

8. If your husband died tomorrow, not much would change about your house routine.

Sure, you might be sad about it, but realistically, nothing would change except for your financial situation at most. You'd still be the one doing all the work and keeping everything in order.

9. You could probably have an affair and he'd never notice.

If you don't think he'd notice if you were sneaking around, it's a sign that you are no longer married on an emotional level. Even if he's physically present as a roommate, this is a sign that it's 100 percent over.

10. You feel like you got a "bait and switch" deal.

You know that marriage is supposed to be a partnership, but you don't feel anything like a real partner here. If you feel cheated out of the good parts of marriage, you're probably a married single mom.

11. You stopped asking your husband to help you with anything because all he'll do is call you a "nag" or just delay doing it until you do it yourself.

This is very common among women who have husbands who just refuse to pull their weight and be an adult. When this happens, it's not that his job is keeping you from having a marriage. It's that he just doesn't care enough to keep you happy or even keep you feeling like you're taken.

12. Even though you're married, you feel very, very alone in your relationship.

Do you feel like everything is one-sided? Do you feel isolated? Are most of your pleas for help, affection, and attention falling on deaf ears? If so, you're living single life while still married. You may need to fix that.

Why 1 Handbag Is No Longer Enough

Last season, we were tightening our handbag straps, lifting them to chest level to make a statement. But for Fall 2017, we're seeing a new trend take hold. From the runways to the street, bag layering is the name of the game. Whether it's by affixing a change purse to a larger satchel or simply coordinating two different totes, more is definitely more.

In Milan, Gucci debuted a new connector strap which hooks together three different pouches. The following day, Fendi revealed the new Run Away double-handle bag, along with a classic "F" key fob that comes with an accordion of clutches. While we'll have to wait until next season to get our hands on those designs, a scroll through some IRL inspiration will leave you full of ideas for mastering the look.

Aside from its obvious allure - this is an easy way to add an extra dash of color and extra dimension to your outfit - the move allows for better organization, too. Credit cards in the tiniest compartment, phone or iPad in the largest - and you can say goodbye to that worn-out canvas tote. Ahead, we have some quick tips for bag layering and our shopping picks to help you accomplish the task at hand.

The Immigrant-Led Clothing Brand You've Been Seeing All Over Instagram

Kids of Immigrants recently emerged as a celebrity-approved clothing brand. However, the story behind the brand is what has people talking. Now, the first-generation Americans from Honduras and Liberia, respectively, have amassed a notable following and plenty of celebrity clientele.

Culture instilled by ingenuity and the will to make something out of nothing."

From a fashion perspective, Kids of Immigrants offers unique hoodies, sweaters, and perfectly worn-in t-shirts with prices ranging from $25 to $135. The 2 Iconic Films That Inspired Jordan Peele's Horror Masterpiece, Get Out

Jordan Peele's new film, Get Out, currently holds a rare 100 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and for good reason. The subversive horror flick uses race as the primary motivator for the brilliant, bloody horror that transpires when a young black man (Daniel Kaluuya) accompanies his white girlfriend (Allison Williams) home for a weekend to meet her "liberal" parents. His descent into a terrifying "are they trying to kill me, or are they just weird?" back and forth results in an unsettling, funny, and overwhelmingly spooky movie. Given our current political climate, which makes Get Out more resonant than ever, it's easy to assume Peele's primary inspiration for the film was pulled from news headlines about black men continuously suffering grave and blatant injustice at the hands of white people.

It turns out a lot of different things influenced the final product, which Peele began working on before former President Barack Obama even took office. In an interview with The Daily Beast, the director revealed that he wanted to capture a "real horror" in the vein of classic horror movies:

"I feel like all classic horror movies have a very true horror behind them, and the thought of doing a racial horror movie came up but I really doubted whether or not it was possible. When Hillary and Obama were competing for the Democratic nomination, there were a lot of questions raised about gender civil rights and racial civil rights, and almost a pitting against one another of the two different causes. I began to look at those two issues as being parallel issues, and two of my favorite movies are Rosemary's Baby and The Stepford Wives. The way that those movies deal with gender and are ultimately about men making decisions for women's bodies - and address justified fears from the women's lib movement - was a signal to me that you can also do a movie about race using the same model."

The Stepford Wives and Rosemary's Baby might have been used as tonal inspirations, but plenty of people have described Peele's film as a brutal take on Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, the 1967 film about a black man meeting his white fiancée's parents. While discussing Get Out with GQ, the subject of Peele's experience meeting his own white in-laws came up (his wife is comedian Chelsea Peretti, with whom he's expecting his first child). "This movie is a true story," he joked. "No, everybody gets it. My family, they're all very smart, all very funny. This is not the story of my marriage at all."

There you have it!

The 2 Surprising Reasons This Baby's Birth Was Incredibly Rare

Whether this is your first or tenth time seeing a baby born en caul, the images and videos are always incredible.

This phenomenon occurs when a baby's amniotic sac doesn't rupture and they are born still encased in the protective bubble. Only one in every 80,000 births are en caul, and this remarkable state usually doesn't last long. When Brezi Merryman was photographing a second-time mom's home birth, she was lucky enough to not only witness but capture this rare type of delivery.

However, that wasn't the only thing that made this family's birth memorable. Their baby was also born naturally on his due date, which only occurs in an estimated five percent of deliveries. For both of these instances to occur during the same delivery, everyone was left amazed by this special bundle of joy's unique entrance to the world.

As Brezi photographed this baby emerging from the water as his amniotic sac burst, she was reminded of the last time she witnessed a delivery this incredible: that same day exactly a year before. Check out more images from these remarkable births ahead.

Too Afraid to See Get Out? Here's Everything You Need to Know

Get Out is making waves for its smart, socially conscious, and straight-up terrifying storyline. Earning a coveted 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has already won over critics, but if you're too scared to see it, we understand. The elevator pitch: A young black man agrees to meet his girlfriend's parents for the first time over a weekend at their secluded estate. When he gets there, he finds himself surrounded by white people, and the only black people nearby seem to have been brainwashed. The brainchild of writer/director Jordan Peele, Get Out has been aptly described as "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner meets The Stepford Wives."

Ready for some spoilers? Let's go.

The minute Chris (Black Mirror's Daniel Kaluuya) pulls up to Rose's (Allison Williams) childhood home, he can sense that something isn't right. Her parents, Missy (Catherine Keener) and Dean (Bradley Whitford), are overly welcoming, and the other black people in the area are working for them. Groundskeeper Walter (Marcus Henderson) has a vacant stare, and Maid Georgina (Betty Gabriel) appears to be literally programmed to please.

The first night he's there, Chris wanders outside for a cigarette, but gets spooked when Walter appears out of the distance and runs straight for him, changing course at the last minute. (Later, Walter apologizes for spooking Chris with his "exercise" routine.) When he returns inside, Missy corners him. She's a psychologist, and she wants to hypnotize him into quitting smoking. He doesn't quite agree, but he finds himself glued to him chair as she stirs her tea, mesmerized by the sound. Before he knows it, he's paralyzed. She's has him in "the sunken place," unable to control his body. The next thing he knows, he's waking up in bed the next day.

The family is throwing a party at their house, and Rose gets increasingly sympathetic when all of her parents' (white) friends treat Chris like an exotic animal, or worse, like a piece of meat; one woman even reaches out and grabs his muscles. Uncomfortable, he goes upstairs to call his friend back home, but discovers that Georgina has unplugged his phone from its charger. She comes to apologize, and while he's trying to relate to her, she almost seems to malfunction. She starts to laugh, then cry, all while maintaining that she loves her job.

He returns to the party, where the only other black guest is a man named Logan. He's dressed for a country club dinner and basically talks like an old white man. Chris is creeped out, so he takes a picture steathily to send to his friend Rod (Lil Rey Howery). The flash goes off, and Logan freaks out, stumbling toward Chris and screaming at him to "GET OUT." He's rushed into Missy's office, and she calms him down - behind closed doors. Alarmed, Chris sends the picture to Rod, who immediately calls and tells him that "Logan" is actually a guy from their neighborhood who had gone missing. (Did I mention "Logan" is shown at the beginning of the film, casually minding his own business in a suburban neighborhood when someone pulls up and kidnaps him?) Rod is convinced that the white people are hypnotizing black people and turning them into sex slaves . . . and he's not far off.

Chris tells Rose that they have to leave. He's packing when he finds a box of pictures: Rose with her past boyfriends. They're all black. She even dated Georgina! He pretends not to have seen the box and tells Rose they have to get out immediately. As she trying to find her keys, he runs downstairs, where Rose's aggressive brother (Caleb Landry Jones) is guarding the door. As he pleads with Rose to find her keys, she drops the act, holding up the keys. Rose's brother puts Chris in a chokehold, and Chris wakes up strapped to a chair, with a TV in front of him.

It's then that the truth is laid out: Rose's family has been perfecting a way to transfer the brain of a white person into the body of a black person, so the white person can enjoy all the benefits of the black person's physical strengths. Chris's body has been sold to a blind art dealer (Stephen Root), who is excited to have Chris's eyes. "Walter" is really Rose's grandfather, while "Georgina" is her grandmother. A small part of the original person remains in their body, which explains Georgina's bizarre meltdown earlier, and Logan's freak-out.

Logan escapes, killing Rose's brother, father (who was about to operate on Chris), and mother. He tries to help Georgina, but she attacks him, crashing his getaway car. It's then that Rose comes after him, calmly shooting at him with a rifle. She sics Walter on him, but Chris takes a picture, and the flash allows Walter to come out of his trance momentarily. Walter shoots Rose in the stomach, and then himself in the head. As Rose is dying, a police car pulls up and she calls for help. Psych! It's Rod, in his TSA vehicle. Chris gets in and they drive away as Rose is left to die.

Boom.

Why Do Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon Hate Each Other?

There have been some explosive Hollywood feuds within the past few years, but one of the best ones isn't even real. Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon are known for playing up their "hatred" for each other during late-night appearances, but when exactly did the two become frenemies? Well, it all started during the third season of Jimmy Kimmel Live! when the host ended his show by apologizing to Matt for running out of time. "We had a bad show," Jimmy explained to NPR in 2013. "The guests were bad, and I was feeling pretty bad about myself at the end of the program and I decided to say [it] for the amusement of one of our producers who was standing next to me." After his producer got a kick out of the joke, he decided to keep it up . . . every single night.

So, why exactly did he use the Jason Bourne actor as the butt of his jokes? Honestly, Matt just happened to be the first name that popped into his head. "I was trying to think of an A-list star and somebody we absolutely would not bump if he was on the show," he explained. The little joke eventually became a beast of its own, and the two have been playing it up ever since. While we couldn't imagine a world without their infamous feud, we also can't help but wonder what would have happened if the host had uttered the name of another A-list actor back in 2004. Jimmy could be feuding with the likes of Kevin Bacon, or even Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Number 1 Spring Trend You're Already Seeing Everywhere

For Spring 2017, the focus is once again on the shoulders. In addition to off-the-shoulder styles, we're seeing updated versions of the cold-shoulder look. Whether the cutout designs have frilled hems or floral patterns, the new pieces still flatter all body types and are equally as comfortable (thanks to that extra set of straps).

Consider them the perfect transitional piece no matter what season it is. The cold-shoulder style even pairs with everything in your closet and exposes tiny parts of your shoulders for that sexy spin. It's no wonder a few of your favorite fashion influencers have already hopped on this trend. Take some styling cues from them ahead, because judging from what we saw on the Fall runways, the trendy design will be here to stay.

A Martial Arts Instructor Actually Made a Video Called "The Defense to the Trump Handshake"

If we can agree on anything about President Donald Trump, it's definitely that the man does not know how to do a proper handshake. He cradles fingers, holds on for too long, and sometimes even pulls you toward him. People find it so strange that the internet's made several memes about it.

If you ever find yourself about to shake hands with Trump, you can do the following: run or use this martial arts technique to free yourself. That's right, martial arts academy Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Columbus, OH, posted a quick tutorial on YouTube on how to defend yourself against the Donald Trump handshake. The instructor teaches you how to pull a "goose neck" maneuver to release your hand from the shake. You can watch the short video here.

The instructor doesn't necessarily encourage you to do this to the president, but if you ever find yourself in need of getting your hand back, you know what to do.
