This Year's Met Gala Will Be Co-Chaired By the Most Stylish Couple Yet
The 2017 Met Gala theme has been announced. The focus will be on Comme des Garçons's designer Rei Kawakubo, which is pretty crazy in and of itself. This makes Kawakubo only the second living designer to be honored at the annual exhibit, following Yves Saint Laurent in 1983. Since Comme des Garçons is known not only for avant-garde looks that shape the figure in dramatic ways, but also for iconic street style items, the event calls for some experimental co-chairs.
According to People, Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen will co-chair the event, which they've been attending since 2008. Anna Wintour will be hosting alongside Katy Perry and Pharrell, who worked on a perfume with Comme des Garçons for his Girl album in 2014. Read on for a quick preview of what we expect to see on May 1 when the gallery doors are finally opened and the red carpet rolls out.
The Most Famous British Royal Couples of All Time
Image Source: Getty / Anwar Hussein
Or should we say infamous? All-consuming passion, illicit liaisons, bitter breakups, heartbreak, and true love - over the centuries, royal history has had it all. And because of the nature of monarchy, everything has been acted out on a much larger scale. Love letters were burned or placed in a museum and jewels handed out like gas station flowers while countless people were affected. Whether they have gone down in history for the scale of their love or the size of their scandal, we take a look at the top 10 royal couples who have captured our imaginations throughout the ages.
Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles
The relationship between Charles and Camilla got off to a flying start when the pair were both age 23 and met at a polo match. They started a relationship, but a year or so later when Charles went away to sea with the navy, he felt he was too young to make any grand gestures about the future, and the pair went their separate ways. Camilla then got back together with her ex-boyfriend Andrew Parker-Bowles and they married. Charles wrote to his uncle Lord Mountbatten, "I suppose the feeling of emptiness will pass eventually." He married Lady Diana Spencer, but remained friends with Camilla, and so began a painful and destructive two decades that blended at different times friendship, romantic love, and a passionate relationship. The pair finally married in 2005, and Prince Harry has since said of his stepmother, "We are very grateful for her. She's made our father very happy . . . She's a wonderful woman. William and I love her to bits."

Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn
Nothing says "I love you" more than creating an entirely new religion purely so that the two of you can be married. However, nothing says "It's over" more than having you put to death. Henry VIII certainly wasn't one to do things by halves. Frustrated that he and his wife Catherine of Aragon had been unable to produce a male heir, Henry began an affair with her lady-in-waiting Anne Boleyn, and lust turned to love. He wrote to his mistress, "The beautiful words of your letter are so cordially phrased, that they really oblige me to honour, love and serve you forever . . . For my part, I will outdo you, if this be possible, rather than reciprocate, in loyalty of my heart and my desire to please you . . . henceforth my heart will be dedicated to you alone."
The pope refused to grant Henry and Catherine a divorce, so the king passed the Act of Supremacy, stating that he was now the head of the English Church. His marriage to Catherine was annulled and he married Anne a week later, lavishing his second wife with jewel-encrusted necklaces and brooches featuring their intertwined initials. However, after three years of marriage and still no male heir, Henry ordered Anne's execution and married her lady-in-waiting Jane Seymour.
Charles II and Nell Gwyn
Vivacious, attractive, and quick-witted, Nell Gwyn has become known as one of the most famous royal mistresses of all time. Diarist Samuel Pepys referred to her as "pretty, witty Nell." Raised in a brothel before becoming an orange-seller and actress, Nell's life couldn't have been further from royalty, and it's thought this was why her relationship with the king worked so well. Though he had many mistresses, Nell had a special place in his heart, and they were in a relationship for 17 years, having two sons together. During that time, Charles gave Nell a diamond ring and a watch hung with a jeweled heart, bought her a house, covered all her living expenses, and gave her one surviving son the title Duke of St Albans. On his deathbed, Charles asked his brother James "not to let poor Nelly starve."
Edward VII and Wallis Simpson
This notorious couple is one of the most scandalous in royal history. Edward fell in love with the twice-divorced socialite Wallis, knowing that she could never be his wife because English law forbade marriage between a monarch and a divorcee whose partner was still living. When his father George V passed away and Edward acceded to the throne, he searched in vain for ways in which he could become king but also marry Wallis. Eventually, rather than give up the woman he loved, he abdicated, married Wallis, and they set up home in Paris. The relationship of the lavish couple can fittingly be charted in jewels - most famously with a bracelet to which Edward added a new jeweled cross every time something significant happened in their lives - and a gold cigarette case which Wallis gave to Edward that was engraved with a map and had all the countries they had visited picked out in jewels.

George IV and Maria Fitzherbert
Maria Fitzherbert was a twice-widowed Catholic when Prince George fell in love with her, and therefore their relationship could have no future, since Catholics were forbidden from becoming British monarchs. Regardless, the pair were secretly married in 1785, although the marriage was illegal because it had recently become law that any descendant of George II needed permission from the monarch to marry. Nevertheless, George and Maria lived in Brighton for nearly 10 years while George accumulated huge debts, eventually leaving Maria to marry for financial stability. However, soon after his new marriage, he drew up a will bequeathing all his "worldly property . . . to my Maria Fitzherbert, my wife, the wife of my heart and soul . . . such she is in the eyes of Heaven, was, is, and ever will be such in mine."
Four years later, George managed to win Maria back and they were together again for nearly a decade before he left her once more. He asked to be buried with a miniature portrait of her around his neck, which was honoured. He had kept all of their love letters, which were found and burnt.
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert
Their love was deep - a letter from Albert read, "Even in my dreams I never imagined that I should find so much love on earth . . ." - and notoriously passionate - when Victoria's doctor advised her not to have a 10th child at the age of 38, she protested, "Am I not to have any more fun in bed?" Albert also bought Balmoral Castle for his wife. When Albert died of typhoid at age 42 in 1861, Victoria wore black for the rest of her life - 40 years - and slept with a picture of him pinned above her bed. She named monuments after him - the Royal Albert Hall, the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, although Victoria had wanted to call it simply the Albert Museum.
Prince Edward (later Edward VII) and Lillie Langtry
Although the dashing society couple didn't share the all-consuming love of other famous royal pairings, these two gained their notoriety by being one of the most celebrated, glamorous, and illicit couples of their day. Edward was at the time married to Princess Alexandra; they had six children, but he took many mistresses, and in 1877 he became infatuated with the beautiful actress and Pre-Raphaelite model Lillie Langtry. The divorcee was famous for her intellect and wit - she was friends with Oscar Wilde and is said to have been the inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock love-interest Irene Adler. During their three-year relationship, Edward let Lillie design a house in Dorset, where they conducted their relationship. She was introduced to his mother Queen Victoria and had a civil relationship with Edward's wife.
George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon
After many royal monarchs married for financial, diplomatic, or political reasons and subsequently kept mistresses who they often felt more deeply for, George VI and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon were the real deal. They were head over heels in love. Letters between the two are romantic and deeply felt. The queen signed one of hers, "I shall only look forward to seeing you again. I send you you all my love and hundreds of kisses." While the king replied, "My own little darling E, I have just received your darling letter . . . Millions and millions of thanks for it darling; it is just what I wanted and nothing could have given me greater help and encouragement." The pair were an important symbol to the British public during WWII, as during the bombing they stayed in London with their people rather than being evacuated as their advisers suggested.

George V and Mary of Teck
This enduring royal love was unexpectedly born out of tragedy and shared grief. German-born and English-raised Princess Mary was engaged to Prince Albert, who at the time was second in line to the throne (his grandmother Victoria was still queen, and his father would later become Edward VII). However, six weeks after the engagement, Albert died of pneumonia, leaving his fiancée and his younger brother George (now second in line to the throne) in mourning. However, in a soap-opera-worthy twist, George and Mary then fell in love and were married. The pair were devoted to each other throughout their lives, and George allowed his wife access to his work while she often helped him write speeches. The couple were strong figureheads for the British people throughout WWI, and their letters show that behind closed doors there was a deep love between them. On their 17th wedding anniversary, the king wrote to his wife, "My love grows stronger for you every day mixed with admiration and I thank God every day that he has given me such a darling devoted wife as you are."
The Queen and Prince Philip
When the 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth first laid eyes on Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, she was smitten. A few years later when they started corresponding by letter, she kept his photograph on her mantelpiece and would play "People Will Say We're in Love" from the musical Oklahoma on her gramophone after she and Philip went to see the musical together. When Philip proposed, the princess said yes without asking permission from her parents, who insisted on waiting till her 21st birthday before announcing the news. The princess wrote in a letter to her parents, "Philip is an angel, we behave as though we had belonged to each other for years." While Philip stated, "She is the only thing in the world which is absolutely real to me." The pair are set to celebrate their platinum wedding anniversary this year, marking an astounding 70 years of marriage.

The Parent Company of Burger King Purchases Popeyes
It's possible you'll soon see a new crop of Burger King-Popeyes combination restaurants, because Restaurants Brand International Inc., the company that owns Burger King and the coffee chain Tim Hortons, purchased Popeyes for $1.8 billion. If you're hoping this will mean more Popeyes locations will pop up around the States, it's likely! The CEO of RBI, Daniel Schwartz, stated in a press release, "We look forward to taking an already very strong brand and accelerating its pace of growth and opening new restaurants in the U.S. and around the world." Those who dream of being able to pair their favorite burger and fries along their go-to fried chicken and biscuits, there's no mention of such a development in the release. RBI confirms that "Popeyes will continue to be managed independently in the U.S." This may be good news for Popeyes fans who are worried this merger may affect the quality and taste of Popeyes famous food offerings.

This Actually Isn't Justin Timberlake's First Time Performing at the Oscars
Although this year's Academy Awards mark Justin Timberlake's first time attending as a nominee, the singer isn't a stranger to the Oscars stage. Timberlake is up for best original song for "Can't Stop the Feeling," his hit from the Trolls soundtrack, and he'll be performing the catchy song during the show. There's plenty of buzz and excitement about his upcoming performance, but this actually isn't his first time in the Oscars spotlight.
Timberlake's return to the Oscars stage comes after 17 years (!) and (RIP, curls) several different hairstyles. Back in 2000, he and the rest of *NSYNC joined Gloria Estefan to perform "Music of My Heart" from the movie Music of the Heart. The song was nominated in the same category, best original song, with music and lyrics by Diane Warren.
Ready for a trip down memory lane? Check out the 2000 performance below, which will truly fulfill all your nostalgia needs.

If You're Eating Protein to Lose Weight, This Is How Much You Need Per Meal
Experts are pushing the protein when it comes to weight loss, and for good reason, because it regulates your appetite and satiates hunger. But if loading up on tons of protein is your main focus at mealtimes, you might be getting more than you need.
Certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD, of Whole Health Nutrition says to aim for "no more than 20 to 30 grams of protein at each meal." This is in line with the CDC's recommendation for women ages 19 to 70 to get an average of 46 grams of protein per day. But since everyone's weight and activity level matter, this handy chart should help you determine exactly how much protein you need in a day.
So why only 20 to 30 grams at each meal? If you've heard that eating more protein is better for weight loss, it's true, but Leslie says, "The body can only absorb 20 to 30 grams at one time. Eating this amount of protein is a good target per meal because that will help with satiety and be the max your body can absorb at the meal for muscle repair." This leaves room for the other nutrients your body needs. For the perfect weight-loss meal, you always want to combine your protein with carbs for sustained energy and both fiber and healthy fats to keep you feeling fuller longer.
So there's no need to eat scrambled eggs with your morning protein smoothie. And Leslie says you definitely don't want to focus on just animal protein. Plant-based protein like legumes, leafy greens, whole grains, nuts, and soy products offer fiber and are necessary for everyone to "help reduce heart disease, cancer, and can help with weight control."
A Glimpse at Emma Stone and You'll See There's Clearly a Pre-Oscars Dress Code
The Oscar-nominated stars kicked off a weekend of preparties on Friday night, giving us plenty of style fodder ahead of the big event. Style setters stepped out for the annual Women in Film pre-Oscar cocktail party, a warmup, if you will, for Sunday's glamorous red carpet.
Here, it looks like the fashion crowd got the memo - Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Zoë Kravitz, and more slipped into chic suit sets and jumpsuits, giving us a cool alternative to the usual cocktail dress. As for what they'll wear come Sunday, we have some ideas, but for now, let the preshow hold you over.
Emma Thompson Won't Be in the Love Actually Sequel For 1 Perfectly Understandable Reason
The world collectively squealed in delight when we found out that Andrew Lincoln, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, and more of the cast of Love Actually would be coming together for a short follow-up to their hit film. The "sequel" is being made to support Red Nose Day, put on by the British charity Comic Relief. Despite the good cause, there is one original cast member who won't be appearing in the short film: Emma Thompson. She opened up to the Press Association about a conversation she had with writer/director Richard Curtis, who agreed that it was too soon after Alan Rickman's death for her to appear:
"Richard wrote to me and said, 'Darling, we can't write anything for you because of Alan,' and I said, 'No, of course, it would be sad, too sad' . . . It's too soon. It's absolutely right because it's supposed to be for Comic Relief but there isn't much comic relief in the loss of our dear friend, really, just over a year ago . . . We thought and thought [about it] but it just seemed wrong. It was absolutely the right decision."
The Truth About This Year's Oscar Diversity
And the award for most improved diversity goes to . . . the 89th Academy Awards! Unlike last year's nominations, which caused many protests and boycotts (as well as the 2015 noms, which sparked #OscarsSoWhite), this year's nominees actually include people of color.
The best picture category features diverse films Fences, Hidden Figures, and Moonlight, the latter of which took home the Golden Globe for best motion picture drama. Denzel Washington and Ruth Negga received nominations for best actor and actress in a leading role for their performances in Fences and Loving, respectively. Mahershala Ali and Dev Patel received nominations in the supporting actor category for their respective roles in Moonlight and Lion, while Barry Jenkins makes history as the fourth-ever black nominee in the best director category, for his work on Moonlight.
Furthermore, for the first time ever, women of color - Naomie Harris, Octavia Spencer, and Viola Davis (who now holds the record for most Oscar nominations received by a black woman) - are the majority, dominating the category for best supporting actress. All in all, the Academy did a good job in acknowledging the talent and work people of color put into making films this past year. However, while the diversity issue has been improved, it is far from fixed.
With a whopping 14 nominations and now one of the most-nominated films in Oscar history (tying only with 1997's Titanic and 1950's All About Eve), La La Land is one of my favorite films of the season. As a 23-year-old Los Angeles native working her way up the ladder in the entertainment industry, I feel a strong kinship to La La Land's main character, Mia Dolan. Sure, there are some differences. I'm not a struggling aspiring actress, I've never had a door slammed in my face, and I can't dance to save my life (my friends will attest to this fact).
I also happen to be black, while the actress who portrayed Mia Dolan, Emma Stone, is white. However, this fact never stopped me from enjoying the movie or relating to the characters. The film did receive some backlash in casting a white actor (Ryan Gosling) in the role of Sebastian Wilder, a pianist and aficionado of jazz music, which originated among black people.
At first, this didn't bother me. Not only am I a huge fan of Ryan Gosling and think that he did an amazing job in the role, but I believe that you can be passionate about any genre of music, no matter what your race. (Personally, I can only tolerate about 20 minutes of jazz myself, and that's usually how long one song is.) But, then I began to wonder . . . was a black person even considered for the role?
During her acceptance speech at the 2015 Emmy Awards, for which she was the first black woman to win the award for best lead actress in a drama, Viola Davis said, "The only thing that separates women of color from anything else is opportunity." At last year's Oscars, host Chris Rock reiterated this fact, stating, "It's not about boycotting anything; we want opportunity. We want the black actors to get the same opportunities as white actors. That's it."
So, were any black actors given the opportunity to be the leads in La La Land? Emma Watson and Miles Teller were originally in talks to star in the Golden Globe-winning film, but was anyone else considered? Were Asian or Latino actors? LGBTQ or plus-size actors? If the answer to these questions is no (which I suspect it may be) and these people didn't even get the chance to audition for the role, then how can people think that the diversity problem has been fixed?
If Hidden Figures had been an average story about three intellectuals working for NASA set in the modern day, as opposed to a 1950s period piece, I highly doubt that all women would have been cast in the starring roles, let alone women of color. Additionally, we don't just need diversity on screen, but behind the scenes as well. In 2010, Kathryn Bigelow was the first woman to ever win the award for best director, acknowledged for her work on The Hurt Locker. Why did it take so long? There are people from all walks of life who deserve to have their stories told and even more diverse writers, directors, musicians, editors, and costumers who want to help tell those stories.
After this most recent election, the marginalized have to work now, more than ever, to have their voices heard. The Women's March was an outstanding display of unity and equal rights, but it can't stop there. Whether or not it should be, the entertainment industry is a significant platform. People all around the globe watch television and films and look to their favorite celebrities - people who inspire them - for direction and support. While I applaud the Academy for its astounding improvements in diversity, I also implore that the progress continue year after year. Diversity should be the norm, not news.
7 DIY Hair Remedies Your Grandma Always Talked About That Actually Work
It's safe to say we've spent our teen and adult lives on a quest for the secrets to silky, shiny hair. Wouldn't you know, the secret to achieving ultimate softness or the perfect hue could be right in your refrigerator or pantry, and your grandma might have been telling you about them for years! You may have rolled your eyes at her ideas growing up, but as an adult you're surely willing to try anything. Read on for 10 abuela-approved DIY hair tricks.
1. Honey and olive oil give hair shine:
Honey is not just for tea and olive oil is not just for salad. The kitchen staples are well known for their softening properties, so grandma was right when she would suggest you sprinkle a mix of the two on your strands to make them healthier. Follow a simple heated recipe for the ultimate deep conditioner.
2. Mayonnaise works wonders as a conditioning treatment:
Unlike chemical-laden salon treatments, mayonnaise is chock full of oils and proteins to leave your hair strong and well hydrated. "The oil softens the hair, making it shinier - and the protein in the eggs will make strands stronger," says hairstylist Nathaniel Hawkins.
3. Adding avocado to a deep conditioning mask will boost results:
Nature's butter doesn't just taste great, it also does wonders for parched skin and hair. Try a homemade mask made with honey and olive or coconut oil to achieve amazing softness.
4. Coca-Cola can give your hair a healthy shine:
What the what? But it's true, even stars like British supermodel Suki Waterhouse turn to the soda for a just-back-from-the-beach look, thanks to its acidity. Just be sure to rinse your hair immediately after trying it!
5. Eggs help your hair grow:
Who wouldn't love to speed up hair growth while dodging damage? Eggs are loaded with protein, a key ingredient your hair needs to regain strength. Mix one with olive oil to do the trick.
6. Lemon juice can lighten your hair:
Skip the bleach for more gentle solution for natural highlights. It's just like a natural version of Sun-In.
7. Apple cider vinegar helps to detangle:
We all know the frustrations that come with brushing out the tangles in your hair every morning. Try a few spritzes of apple cider vinegar as a natural remedy that will also add softness and shine. Bonus: apple cider vinegar is also known to help with dandruff!
10 Famous Musicals That Won the Oscar For Best Picture
With all the hype surrounding La La Land this year, it seems like musicals are making a big comeback. While the film has certainly gained a lot of praise from critics this award season, most fans would be surprised to know that only 10 musicals have taken home best picture at the Academy Awards. The last winner was way back in 2002! While it's still uncertain whether or not Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's film will join the ranks of winners, you can check out all the feature films that have made movie musical history ahead.
James Corden, Jordan Peele, and Nick Kroll's Hardcore Boy Band Is Borderline Disturbing
Jordan Peele is making the rounds promoting his crazy-good new horror movie, Get Out, and he stopped by The Late Late Show With James Corden on Thursday night. His interview is great and all, but you have to watch this Behind the Music-esque skit about their old boy band. Nick Kroll was also a member (obviously), and their name was, wait for it, Thr33way. They take all the hits you love from *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys and change the lyrics to reflect what the guys were really thinking when they were singing. James Corden is the best, you guys.

It's OK to Listen to Ryan Gosling Sing "City of Stars" Over and Over
If you've already seen La La Land, chances are good that you've been weak in the knees listening to Ryan Gosling's first track from the film. "City of Stars" recently won the Golden Globe for best original song, and it's up for an Oscar. It's available on Spotify, which is great news, because all you have to do is hit that little loop button to hear it over and over all day long. Beware, though: it might lull you into a beautiful, Gosling-dream-filled sleep (which is clearly the best-case scenario, right?).
Why Ryan Gosling Is Going to Win the Best Actor Oscar This Year
The award season tides might just be changing. Every year, there are clear favorites for Oscars, made pretty obvious after the Critic's Choice, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards all get handed out. About a month ago, if you'd asked us (or really, any Oscars odds-makers), we would have said that Casey Affleck was going to sweep the whole season and pick up best actor statues all the way to the Oscars. But the season has been more interesting than most, and now, we'd like to put out a theory that now has a lot of steam: Ryan Gosling will win the best actor Oscar for La La Land.
Here's why we think he has a very strong shot.

Casey Affleck Lost the SAG Award
Denzel Washington won his first SAG Award for best actor for Fences this week, throwing our usual metric of "whoever gets the SAG Award, gets the Oscar" right off. As you can see, there's been very little variation on SAG winners who go on to win the Oscar in the best actor category, leaving room for some unpredictability at the Oscars. So, you say, why isn't this a story about why Washington is going to win the Oscar? Keep reading.
Gosling Won the Golden Globe
The Golden Globes split its best actor award into drama and musical/comedy, and of course, we watched Gosling take home the musical/comedy statue with a heartwarming speech. Affleck won the award for best actor in a drama that night, following his win in the same category at the Critics' Choice Awards. So far, Affleck still has the most best actor awards this season, but like we said, losing the SAG Award was a major hit to his momentum. And, for those keeping score at home, Washington has only won one major award this season so far.

Ryan Gosling Will Campaign
This is a major factor that we often forget about, unless you're an industry insider. As much as you'd like to think that Oscars go to the people who deserve them the most, for the best acting in the best film that year, that's just not what happens. There is an element of campaigning that nominees do to better their chances. We're not saying Gosling is going to go out and shake hands and hold babies, but his charm offensive has already begun. His Golden Globes speech about his family melted our collective hearts. His reaction to his Oscar nomination was the perfect amount of humble. He's America's boyfriend.
Contrast that with Affleck, who has been dogged by disturbing sexual assault allegations, which, prior to the SAG Awards, hadn't seemed to affect his award season streak. Given that SAG Awards are voted on by actors, and his fellow actors had already begun speaking out against Affleck's recognition, it could be possible that that was a factor in his loss. Whether the Academy will feel the same way is yet to be seen. Adding another black mark to Affleck's chances: his roasting of the same people who honored him at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in early January. Funny, sure, but it didn't make him look grateful.
La La Land Is the Still the Award Season Favorite
Though La La Land was only honored once at the SAG Awards for Emma Stone's performance, it's still the most celebrated film of award season, having broken records for Golden Globe wins and tied records for Oscar nominations. Who's to say if La La Land is Gosling's best work yet, but he pulls his weight while arguably showing more range of talent than other nominees in that he's singing, dancing, playing the piano, and comedically and dramatically delivering. The movie should go on to win in most major categories on Oscar night, and one of those categories is very likely to be best actor.
16 Reasons Bruno Mars Is Beautiful Just the Way He Is
Bruno Mars has been making us swoon since his debut single, "Just the Way You Are," in 2010. Keep reading to see all the reasons Bruno is beautiful just the way he is.

12 Tips Anyone With an Amazon Echo Should Learn, Use, or Try
Whether you bought one for yourself or got one as a gift, you can't deny the Amazon Echo is pretty awesome. Sure, it takes time to get used saying "Alexa," but you get over that pretty quickly. If you want to learn a few more tips to get the most out of your Echo, Dot, or Tap, read some of our tips ahead.
- Change Alexa's voice: Go to Settings > Language Support and change Alexa's voice to either a British accent or to the German language.
- Ask Alexa information about restaurants and shops: Since Alexa works with Yelp, you can ask your Echo when a bank closes or the hours of a store.
- Shop using only your voice: Never forget an item you need simply by saying "Alexa, order" and finish with the item you need. You'll get the price and ability to confirm what you want to buy, so don't worry too much about drunk shopping.
- Choose a different "wake" word: Feel weird saying Alexa? Go to Settings > Wake Word and change it to either Echo or Amazon.
- Pick which app streams your music: If you already subscribe to Spotify or love using Pandora, you can go to Settings > Music and Media and change the default music option.
- Give your Echo new skills: Tap on the three bars at the top left corner of the app and head to Skills. Here, you can enable thousands of skills to use with Alexa, like Jeopardy, Starbucks, Dog Facts, and more.
- Get caught up on the news: Simply say, "Alexa, what's new" and you'll hear the news. Or set up your Flash Briefing by going to Settings > Accounts > Flash Briefing to pick and choose what sources you want to hear news from.
- See what's on your Google Calendar for the day: First, you need to connect your Google Calendar with the Alexa app by going to Settings > Accounts > Calendar and linking your account. Once that's set, all you have to say is "Alexa, what's on my calendar today?" to see what's going on. You can also add events to your calendar.
- Quickly set a timer: Just say, "Alexa set a timer for 5 minutes" (or however long you need), and the timer will start.
- Ask Alexa to do the math: Need to convert something or quickly divide numbers? Just say, "Alexa, 16 times 57" or "Alexa, 50 pounds to dollars."
- Train Alexa to recognize your voice better: Go to Settings > Voice Training and say different phrases to help Alexa learn your voice more.
- Delete anything you've ever said to Alexa: Wary of Amazon collecting your data? Then delete everything you've asked. First, head to Amazon on a desktop computer or mobile browser. Then, go to Your Account > Manage Your Content and Devices > Your Devices. On this page, click on the three little dots by your device and click Manage voice recordings. You'll get another pop-up window to read, and then click the Delete option.

This College Student's Mom Just Won the Internet With This Epic Care Package Prank
Connor Cox, an 18-year-old student at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, received a care package from his mother, Terri, that he'll definitely never forget. While most moms send their kids care packages full of candy and treats, Connor's mom did the complete opposite.
Thought my mom was sending me a care package... but instead she sent me a box of trash i was supposed to take out. http://pic.twitter.com/UetdT5UoVP
- Connor Cox (@thedeal_5) January 30, 2017
"My first reaction to the package was pure excitement because there's nothing better than getting mail from home," he said to POPSUGAR. "But then I opened it and realized my mom sent me the trash that I neglected to take out."
Connor says he believes his mother's package was supposed to be "a lesson regarding responsibility," but also noted that he would expect his mother to pull this kind of prank because she has a great sense of humor. "That's how her sense of humor is, always ready to play a joke."
Although his roommate, Nick, thought the epic prank was hilarious, Cannon says Nick soon realized they would be "out of luck" for snacks. Terri, 1; Connor and Nick, 0.

Big Little Lies: Let's Theorize Who's Dead and Whodunnit
Big Little Lies is HBO's latest buzzy series, and it deserves the buzz: it's based on the bestselling novel by Liane Moriarty and has a star-studded cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern. Not only is the production quality predictably excellent (this is HBO, after all), another reason we're already obsessed is that it kicks off with a murder mystery.
So obviously, there's only one thing to do while we wait for the next episode: theorize on who did it and who's dead. Of course, the book Big Little Lies has been out since 2014, so book readers already know the answer, but for those of us who are only watching the show, let's break down some theories! We'll be updating the suspect/killer list as we go, and we're also keeping in mind the ominous words of the detective in the pilot: "Nobody has been ruled out."
