7 Things You Don't Know About Panera Bread, Straight From an Employee
If you've ever wondered what it's like behind the counter at Panera Bread, you'll enjoy the insider secrets from this employee's Reddit AMA. During the "Ask Me Anything" conversation online, a person who works at Panera Bread answered questions about the truth about the crazy-delicious mac and cheese, the one thing you should avoid ordering, and what the company does with all its unsold bread at the end of the day. Here are the answers to some of your burning Panera Bread questions, straight from someone who knows best.
The reason the mac and cheese is SO good is . . . calories.
When asked why the mac and cheese is "so f*cking good," the Panera employee said, "It's very good because it isn't that healthy for you. It has a lot of calories tbh."
Also, it arrives at the store frozen.
"They aren't lying when they say that all their food is 100 percent clean so nothing is bad for you. However, that doesn't mean that all the food is good for you. The mac and cheese, for example, comes into the store premade and frozen in a bag and it is heated either in boiling water or the microwave if need be."
There are two things customers do that drive employees CRAZY.
"Two things. The first is when we make a small mistake and they completely lose their minds. If we make a mistake of any kind, we'll do everything that we can to fix it and make it up to you, no need to cause a scene just because we forgot to give you a fork. The second is when customers come in 10 minutes before close and order a ton of food then eat in store."
The one thing you should never order past lunchtime? Avocado.
"Avacados usually sit out open for a number of hours. They are fine around lunchtime but as the day goes on, they get older."
The employee discount is really good.
"I honestly would never eat at Panera if I didn't have an employee discount (70 percent)."
Your soup could possibly get sneezed in if you annoy the employees . . .
When asked, "How many sneezes per soup?" the employee responded, "Depends on how annoying the customer is." Hopefully, that's a joke!
Panera donates all of its extra bread at the end of the day.
"Yes, at the end of the day we donate all our unused bread to a homeless shelter."
Important Question: Will Eva Mendes Attend the Oscars With Ryan Gosling?
Ryan Gosling has been a very handsome, very welcome award season presence this year thanks to his beautiful performance in La La Land. While we've seen a ton of him on the red carpet with his costar Emma Stone, there's one person in his life that we've seen literally zero of these past few months: his partner, Eva Mendes. Ryan and Eva began dating in 2011 and have two daughters together, Esmeralda and Amada. And though Ryan did open up about Eva and her late brother, Juan Carlo, in his Golden Globes speech, Eva has yet to be his date to any award season events. Now that Ryan is nominated for (and has a pretty good chance at winning) an Oscar, we have to wonder if a best actor nod is enough to get Eva on the red carpet.
The notoriously private couple hasn't done a red carpet together since the screening of The Place Beyond the Pines at the Toronto Film Festival in 2012 - they were technically together but also both starred in the film, so they didn't attend as dates as much as costars. Will Eva step out for the Academy Awards? Only time will tell, but we're pretty convinced that she will. Ryan has been nominated for an Oscar one other time, for his role in Half Nelson back in 2007, but they weren't a couple yet. With a year full of professional and personal success for Ryan, wouldn't it be the ultimate act of love and support for Eva to accompany him on his big night this time around?

Meryl Streep's Marriage Has Lasted as Long as Her Career
Meryl Streep knows a thing or two about long-term success, and her marriage is no exception. She and sculptor Don Gummer have been married since 1978, and he's been by her side at a number of industry events and award shows in the years since. Meryl may have been mentioned more than God in Oscars acceptance speeches over the last decade, but at the 2012 Academy Awards, it was her husband who received a sweet shout-out. When Meryl won best actress for The Iron Lady, she said, "First I'm going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech they play him out with the music, and I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you've given me."
The pair first met after her partner John Cazale - of The Godfather and The Deer Hunter - died of bone cancer. She was invited to move into the vacant apartment of her brother's friend Don, who was traveling abroad, and when Don returned, she ended up staying, and they were married within six months. The couple now have four kids together, including one son and Meryl's three look-alike daughters. As the actress celebrates her 20th Oscar nomination, let's look back at the pair's sweet relationship through the years.

22 Times Milo Ventimiglia's Smile Stopped You in Your Tracks
Let's get the obvious out of the way first: Milo Ventimiglia is an extremely sexy man. If you didn't fall in love with him back in the day when he was on Gilmore Girls, you probably sure as hell love him now for his role as perfect husband and father Jack Pearson on NBC's The Is Us. In addition to his charming personality and sweet real-life friendships with his costars, Milo is beautiful to look at. And his smile? Lay me down and put me to bed. The actor has opened up in the past about how a birth defect involving dead nerves in his lip led to his self-described "crooked smile," but we honestly think it couldn't be more attractive. Whether he's full-on grinning or only slightly smirking, it makes us weak in the knees every damn time.

Denzel Washington Will Never NOT Be Sexy as Hell
Denzel Washington is a Hollywood icon. In addition to the many classic films he's starred in, he also has seven Oscar nominations under his belt, two wins, one beautiful wife, and four children. Many of the 62-year-old actor's roles have been extremely badass, giving him that whole sexy protector vibe (if he was your current boyfriend, your ex-boyfriend should be extremely nervous). While most people with a pulse can't get enough of him on the big screen, we also have a soft spot for him in real life. Denzel has always been attractive (that smile!), and we have 20 moments right here that prove that's not about to change.

Katy Perry's Brit Awards Performance Brought Down the House - Literally
I'm crying the House fell off the stage 😂 🏠 #BRITs2017 #KatyPerryBRITS http://pic.twitter.com/LlknbQIbsi
- Ali (@ChocMilkSheikh1) February 22, 2017
Katy Perry performed her hit single "Chained the Rhythm" at the Brit Awards on Wednesday, but it's not her political messages that have people talking. Instead of dancing around a white picket fence like she did at the Grammys, the singer actually had her backup dancers dress up like white houses. However, things quickly took a wrong turn (literally) when one of them marched right off stage and into the audience. It's all painfully awkward, but we can't help but watch the video over and over again. Catch the notable moment above.

22 Photos That Prove Moonlight's Andre Holland Deserves Your Gaze
While Moonlight is inspiring many newly discovered crushes on actor Trevante Rhodes, I was delighted to discover that The Knick's Andre Holland also stars in the Oscar-nominated movie.
Holland plays surgeon Algernon Edwards in the Cinemax series The Knick, set at a 1900 New York hospital, and he pretty much steals the show. In Moonlight, we're treated to several scenes of Rhodes and Holland together. Though Holland tends toward period pieces, he looks great in any historical era. Here are 22 photos that prove it.
13 Avocado Toast Toppings You Probably Haven't Tried Yet
You can say you've eaten avocado toast every which way, but we're going to bet you haven't tried at least a few of the toppings in this list. For example, have you ever thought about adding a touch of sourness to the bite with grapefruits? Or seasoning it with a blend of Asian flavors like miso tahini? How about sprinkling Mexican grilled corn atop? We thought so! Keep scrolling for a list of even more surprising and delicious toppings you need to try ASAP.

Cat With No Eyes Picks His Own Best Friend From the Shelter
This is Martin. Reddit user Marmie_McMom adopted him after a surgery that left him with no eyes. But when he came home, he unfortunately didn't get along with the cat already in the house. Instead of giving up on the situation, Marmie_McMom took Martin to a shelter to let him pick out a brand-new best friend, and that's where Mr. Pinkerton came in. The two cats met, and after bumping noses, they quickly settled into a lasting friendship. Scroll through to see pictures of the pair together - it's one of the sweetest rescue stories we've ever heard.
Ryan Murphy's Next Season of Feud Should Be About Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel
Hollywood is full of bitter celebrity feuds (to the point where Ryan Murphy has even made a show about them), but few are as hilarious as the one between Matt Damon and Jimmy Kimmel. The late-night host, who's gearing up to host the Oscars, sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday to discuss their rivalry. Matt recently appeared on Ellen's show to talk smack about Jimmy's hosting duties, which she told Jimmy about. "That's tough talk from a guy wearing 11 bracelets, I think," he joked, before poking fun at Matt's current Oscar nomination for producing Manchester by the Sea. "He can do whatever he wants, obviously it's a free country, but one thing I know Matt Damon won't be throwing at me is an Oscar, because he's not gonna win." Here's hoping one of Matt's bracelets repels sick burns.

Watch Lin-Manuel Miranda Sing the Best Disney Songs, Immediately Be a Happier Person
The more you know: Lin-Manuel Miranda is not only incredibly talented, but also hilarious! The Hamilton creator and star, who left the Broadway show to concentrate on film projects like the upcoming Mary Poppins remake, geared up for the premiere of Disney's Moana back in August with a series of perfect Instagram videos. While at a press day with the stars of the movie, including Dwayne Johnson and Auli'i Cravalho, he took over Walt Disney Animation Studios's Instagram, leading us to the best day we ever had!
In a series of videos - clearly it wasn't a jam-packed day for Lin-Manuel on set - the actor and singer delights us with renditions of his favorite Disney songs, from "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid to "Santa Fe" from Newsies. Get ready to go on a roller coaster of emotion and take a trip down memory lane, then scroll ahead to check out the amazing talent of the Puerto Rican-American star.
Get Out Isn't the Only Place You've Seen Actor Lakeith Stanfield
If you're a scary-movie fan, chances are you're already (or soon to be) obsessed with Get Out. Directed by comedian Jordan Peele, it's not your average horror film. It's a terrifying, complex, and genre-bending debut for Peele and features stellar performances from all of its leads, including Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, and Bradley Whitford. One of the more minor but incredibly important characters falls on the shoulders of Lakeith Stanfield. The 25-year-old actor and rapper plays Andrew "Logan" King, a young black man (pictured above, left) who gets kidnapped within the film's first few minutes and pops up later at a party hosted by the parents of Rose (Williams), who brought her black boyfriend (Kaluuya) home for the first time. Stanfield's performance will not only leave you deeply unsettled but also probably wondering where you've seen him before.
Most recently, Stanfield appeared in the first season of Donald Glover's popular FX series Atlanta as stoned scene-stealer Darius. It seems like Stanfield has a habit of stealing scenes no matter what he's doing, though. In 2013, he made his feature-film debut in Short Term 12 (which earned him a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards), and he later impressed everyone with his spot-on portrayal of Snoop Dogg in Straight Outta Compton and an inspiring role in Selma as Jimmie Lee Jackson. In December, he crashed the stage at the Critics' Choice Awards when Silicon Valley took home the best comedy series trophy instead of Atlanta, instantly launching him to award show infamy. You'll have to wait a few months before he stars in Izzy Gets the F*ck Across Town (due out later this year), so if you're jonesing for more Stanfield in your life, you'll just have to go see Get Out again.

Reminder: This Isn't Emma Stone's First Shot at Oscar Gold
La La Land made history in January by picking up a record-tying 14 Oscar nominations, a record set by Titanic and All About Eve. Among the nods are best picture, best actor for Ryan Gosling, and best actress for Emma Stone. After the nominations were announced, Stone reacted to the exciting news in the sweetest way possible. "I am so grateful for this honor and I'm so happy to share this feeling with my La La Land family," she said in a statement. "The greatest part of life is connecting with people, and I love the deeply talented, kind and passionate people I was lucky enough to work with on this movie. I'm also overjoyed that the movie has connected with audiences in the way it has, and that it's hopefully bringing a kick in their step to those who watch it. This is beyond any of our wildest imaginings and we can't wait to celebrate together."
Given the fact that the film has been sweeping award season, there's a good chance Stone will be bringing home the gold this year. Of course, this isn't the first time she's been nominated for an Oscar. In 2011, her film The Help scored a nod for best picture, and in 2015, she was up for best supporting actress for her performance in Birdman. (She lost to Boyhood's Patricia Arquette.) We're rooting for you, Emma!
Someone Created a Song Using Music Notes in the Shape of a Unicorn and It's Too Cute
Enjoy a unicorn made out of music notes http://pic.twitter.com/f4oMZDa50b
- Andrew Huang (@andrewismusic) February 21, 2017
What happens when you create a song using music notes in the shape of a unicorn? Magic, of course. Popular YouTube blogger Andrew Huang recently used music software to test out this experiment. The end result pretty much sounds like what you'd expect! It's feminine, sprightly, and sounds like it's straight out of a feudal fairy tale.
In just two days, Andrew's tweet amassed more than 100,000 retweets and 158,000 "likes." Even his followers have since taken to trying the experiment themselves. One Twitter user, for example, did the same project except he changed the instrument to a drum kit and found that it still sounds pretty damn awesome. Listen to the whimsical ditty in its entirety, above.
24 Easter Eggs You May Have Missed in Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events
It's a fact: everyone loves Easter eggs. I'm not talking about the Cadbury chocolate you eat in the Spring, although those are great, too. No, the Easter eggs I'm talking about are little inside jokes created by people behind the scenes and hidden in films and TV shows. Most of these references would go over the head of the average viewer, but true fans will spot them in names of characters, fleeting images, and pithy dialogue. Season one of Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events has a ton of Easter eggs peppered throughout its eight episodes. Most are from the books, but some are more obscure. Did you catch them all? Take a look at some of the ones you may have missed. Warning: there are major spoilers, a word that here means "look away if you haven't finished watching the series"!
The Bad Beginning (Episodes one and two)
- As Lemony Snicket walks through the tunnels, signs can be seen behind him that lead to different directions. Each sign is named after a character from the book including: Montgomery, Anwhistle, Orwell, Strauss, Fernald, Quagmire, Snicket, Julienne, Remora, Spats, and more.
- Not only do the lyrics of each opening sequence change, but the images shown do as well. They often allude to future plot events. For example, in the opening sequence of the third episode, a movie poster for Zombies in the Snow is seen. The children see this film at the movie theater later in the episode. However, this image isn't seen in previous episodes.
- When discussing wedding cake flavors, the hook-handed man warns, "The other's a little lemony." Count Olaf replies, "I told you never to use that word." Lemony obviously refers to the author, Lemony Snicket.
- Count Olaf performs The Marvelous Marriage, a play written by Al Funcoot. Al Funcoot is an anagram of Count Olaf.
- At the play, Mr. Poe's assistant, Jacquelyn, informs Justice Strauss that she cannot adopt the Baudelaires because their parents stipulated in their will a "vigorously fixed destination." It's just one of the many nods to the secret VFD organization.
- When having his morning coffee, Count Olaf tells Klaus, "I can't seem to find my sugar bowl." Also known as the "vessel for disaccharides," the sugar bowl is an object from the books that is stolen multiple times by various characters.
- Cobie Smulders' role is credited as Mother. She is best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the long-running series, How I Met Your Mother, in which she co-starred alongside Neil Patrick Harris (Count Olaf).
- When the children ask to use Justice Strauss's library, she tells them she has books on "everything from Italian cuisine to the world's most threatening fungus." This fungus is medusoid mycelium, a mushroom developed by Gregor Anwhistle, Aunt Josephine's brother. It's referenced numerous times in the books.
- Right before Gustav is killed, he says, "the world is quiet here," which is the motto of the VFD.
The Reptile Room (Episodes three and four)
- When Uncle Monty takes the Baudelaires to the movies, the attendant gives him the "verified film discount."
- The film they watch, Zombies in the Snow, is directed by Gustav Sebald, creator of the Sebald code and Uncle Monty's murdered assistant. Verified Film Distribution produced the movie.
- After Uncle Monty is killed, Mr. Poe arrives and calls the authorities. Arriving in a van marked "Corner," the coroner (a disguised henchman) introduces himself as Nurse Lucafont. In the books, Dr. O. Lucafont is an alias of the hook-handed man and is also an anagram of Count Olaf.
- At the end of the third episode when the parents are escaping their kidnappers, Mother asks where the tunnel they are in leads. Father responds, "somewhere south of Winnipeg." In the books, the Duchess of Winnipeg is revealed to be a member of VFD.
- There is a teepee shown inside of the Reptile Room that has the name Raymond Ditmars written on it, the name of Monty's iguana. Raymond Ditmars was a famous 19th century herpetologist.
- When the children first arrive to Uncle Monty's house, he shows them a photograph of their parents . . . but really it's just a photo of a piano. Apparently, according to both him and Count Olaf, their parents are inside of the piano. In the books, Esmé Squalor sold a rare piano at the In Auction.
- At the end of the fourth episode, Count Olaf's escape on the SS Prospero is thwarted when Jacquelyn arrives and threatens him with a harpoon gun. In the books, Count Olaf is ultimately killed with a harpoon gun.
The Wide Window (Episodes five and six)
- When Aunt Josephine shops in the market, a woman is selling "very fresh dill."
- As the children order at The Anxious Clown, their waiter says, "I didn't realize this was a sad occasion," which is a code phrase of the VFD.
The Miserable Mill (Episodes seven and eight)
- Foreman Flacutono is an anagram for Count Olaf.
- The eye chart in Dr. Orwell's office reads VFD over and over in different sizes.
- Violet and Klaus use the "Verified Functional Dictionary" to find the code word that controls the hypnosis.
- While Lemony Snicket is watching a zombie film (created by Gustav Sebald), he mentions Nero, an untalented violinist. Nero is the vice principal of the Prufrock Preparatory School - the future home of the Baudelaire children.
Bonuses
- In the trailer for the series, a wooden shipping crate can be seen that is stamped "Very Flammable Dandelions." This is actually an Easter egg to a secret website for the Netflix series. Check it out here.
- Netflix itself is hinted at throughout the series as well. For example, Count Olaf mentions the benefits of commercial-free television. Also, towards the end of the eighth episode, when Mr. Poe is explaining that the children will be attending boarding school, he says, "It's the end of the season, er, semester, so you're going to have to work very hard to catch up." See what they did there? There's no fooling us! There are a few more fun references to the streaming site, but we'll leave those for you to discover!

34 Photos That Perfectly Sum Up What the Oscars Looked Like 10 Years Ago
This year's Oscars are almost here, and with La La Land, Moonlight, and Manchester by the Sea leading the pack, it's going to be a stiff competition. We're gearing up for the big night by looking back at what the Academy Awards looked like in 2007. Despite it being 10 years ago, the ceremony was definitely one for the books. Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson took the stage for an amazing performance of Dreamgirls' "Love You I Do", and Helen Mirren struck gold, nabbing the trophy for best actress for her performance in The Queen. Ryan Gosling was joined by his mom, Donna, and sister Mandi, and during a recent stop on The Graham Norton Show, Ryan revealed that he asked Meryl Streep to compliment his mom's "beehive" hairdo so she would feel better about it. Keep reading to see the "beehive" in question and plenty of other fun moments from the 2007 Oscars.
18 Spirit Awards Moments You Definitely Didn't See on TV

Watch Molly Shannon Strike Her Superstar Pose After Winning Big at the Spirit Awards
Saturday's Spirit Awards were off to a great start thanks to Andy Samberg's hilarious "in memoriam" tribute, but the night got even better when Molly Shannon was named best supporting actress for her role in Other People. Not only was it her first-ever win at the ceremony, but Molly could barely handle her emotions as she made her way to the stage. During her speech, Molly thanked her costars and dedicated her award "to all the moms who would go to the end of the earth for their kids and their families." Still, the best part might have been when she said, "I really truly in this moment feel like a . . . superstar!" and struck her trademark Mary Katherine Gallagher Superstar pose. Honestly, the whole thing is amazing.

9 Things You Never Knew About Disney's Mulan
Almost 20 years later - yes, 20 years (cries into pillow) - a live-action version of Mulan is in the works with director Niki Caro at the helm. The original animation is extremely empowering to women, so it's awesome that a female will be behind the lens, controlling our favorite childhood warrior princess's portrayal this time around. As we await our modernized heroine, and her potentially CGI-animated companions Mushu and Cri-Kee, we can look back fondly on the Disney original - because let's be real, we all still revert back to our 7-year-old Capri Sun-loving selves when "I'll Make a Man Out Of You" comes on Pandora. Now that we know when the reimagined film will premiere, let's take a look at nine facts you probably never knew about Disney's first Asian princess and OG girl-power-charged badass.
- The story of Mulan was originally a folk song. The legend of Mulan was derived from "The Ballad of Mulan," a folk song from the Northern Wei Dynasty. In the ballad, Mulan impersonates a soldier and is away from her family for 12 years. The model for Disney's version, however, likely stems from Xu Wei's play The Heroine Mulan Joins the Army in Place of Her Father.
- Disney's animators worked their own names into the movie. As author Joshua C. Shaffer details in his book, Discovering the Magic Kingdom: An Unofficial Disneyland Vacation Guide, you can see the names of the animators (written in ancient Chinese) when Mulan sings "Reflection" in her father's shrine.

- Lea Salonga is the singing voice for Mulan and Aladdin's Jasmine. The Filipino artist originally auditioned for the role of Mulan, but her voice was too high for the speaking role. Instead, the crew used her pipes for Mulan's voice in the "Reflection" scene.
- Mulan played a pivotal role in launching Christina Aguilera's singing career. Aguilera's manager, Steve Kurtz, sent Disney a demo of the former Disney Mouseketeer singing Whitney Houston's "Run to You" recorded on a boombox in her family's living room. According to Rolling Stone, after Disney debuted her version of "Reflection," the track caught the ear of RCA Records, Aguilera was signed in 1998, and the rest is history.
- Jackie Chan dubbed Captain Li Shang's voice in the Chinese release of Mulan.
Before his Rush Hour days, Jackie Chan was a famous singer and actor in China. Chan started singing credit songs for his films in the '80s before taking on a voice acting role in Disney's Mulan. It turns out Chan can perform his own stunts and sing his own tunes. The multitalented star even made a music video for "I'll Make a Man Out of You"!
- Capturing crickets (like Cri-Kee) in cages was a normal thing to do in China. Crickets played a large part in Chinese culture for over 200 years. During the Tang Dynasty, "The crickets were respected for their powerful ability to 'sing,'" and were seen as good luck, just like in the film. It was during the Tang Dynasty that crickets were being captured and kept in cages so their songs could be heard all the time. In the film, this is why we see Grandmother Fa put a caged Cri-Kee in Mulan's dress as she gets ready to meet the matchmaker.
- The directors make their own cameos. Animated versions of directors Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook appear as the firework technicians in the Emperor's Palace. They will forever be known to audiences as the two guys who get the sh*t scared of them by Batman Mushu.

- In one version of the legend, Mulan has a younger brother. We see him in the screenplay of Mulan Joins the Army (1939). In the screenplay, Mulan tries to use logic to persuade her father not to go to war. "How could your body handle the icy wind and snow from the north?" she asks, in the black-and-white film. "With Older Brother Dead, and Little Brother still young, and Elder Sister about to marry . . . the whole family is relying on your guidance. As I see it, you mustn't go." Disney gives a playful nod to her younger sibling's presence by naming Mulan's dog "Little Brother."
- Disney tried to make Mulan as culturally accurate as possible by sending a group of visual artists to China. As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, Disney really wanted to do ancient China justice: "Producer Pam Coats, directors Tony Bancroft (twin brother of Tom) and Barry Cook and a cadre of artists and designers spent weeks in China taking thousands of photos of trees, architecture, people and historic landmarks." The trip's influence led animators to include darker and more minimalist visual textures that were further in line with traditional Chinese art.
Kelly Ripa Accidentally Let Her 13-Year-Old Son Bring a Book About a Stripper Pole to School
Kelly Ripa had a major bone to pick with Stephen Colbert when she stopped by The Late Show on Wednesday. During the show, the mother of three explained to the host that his book, I Am A Pole (And So Can You!), actually ended up getting her 13-year-old son, Joaquin, in trouble when he brought it to school to be read aloud by his teacher. The book, which is about a pole trying to find its purpose, actually features a scene at a strip club. Not only did the teacher quickly send it back with her son, but Kelly even got a personal note about how inappropriate it was. Watch her recount the hilarious moment above.
Careful, These 10 Shirtless Tyler Posey Pictures Are Hotter Than You Think
If there's one thing playing werewolf Scott McCall on Teen Wolf has taught Tyler Posey, it's probably that he can and should go shirtless (as frequently as possible, please).
The 25-year-old Mexican-American actor, who you might also remember as Jennifer Lopez's son in Maid in Manhattan, frequently shares nearly naked pictures on his Instagram - and no, we're not complaining. While his relationship with Bella Thorne might've lost its steam, keep scrolling to see photographic evidence that Tyler himself has not. After all, if you've got it, flaunt it.
Parents Be Warned: The Latest Social Media Challenge Is Sending Kids to the Hospital
A bizarre and dangerous internet challenge is making a resurgence on social media and kids are ending up in the hospital from participating in the trend.
Although the "salt and ice challenge" has made its rounds more than once over the past few years, it's gaining popularity again among kids and teens, but many are ending up with accidental chemical burns. The seemingly simple challenge calls for kids to place salt and ice together on their skin. However, salt lowers the temperature of ice to as low as negative 17 degrees Celsius or 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, and the effect on skin can be similar to frostbite. However, because of the redness and numbness from the ice, kids often don't realize that they are giving themselves potentially second-degree burns.
As a part of the "game" kids are seeing who can stand the pain the longest and are posting photos of their burns to social media as proof. The National Society For the Prevention of Cruelty to Children in the United Kingdom issued a warning to parents about the craze.
"It is important for schools keep a close eye on all emerging trends and we welcome the warning to parents [sic]," a NSPCC spokesperson told the Huffington Post UK. "The rise of social media has contributed to increasing peer pressure among children. This 'craze' [salt and ice challenge] is another clear example of the risks."
