Save Money, Time, and Calories! Freeze Your Grains
I am all for anything that makes healthy eating a little easier, so when I kept seeing those packages of frozen cooked whole grains at health food stores and Trader Joe's, the idea seemed pretty awesome. They take minutes to prepare, and since you're not cooking up a huge pot, they also help keep portions in check. But they're pricey - $4-$6 for a small package seems a little insane. I thought, "I can make these!"
It's a cinch to DIY your own freezer bags of cooked grains, and because you're in charge, you decide what types of grains and how much - you can even mix them such as quinoa with rice. Any whole grains will work whether it's rice, quinoa, farro, millet, or barley. It works best to make a big batch of whole grains at once, but you can also freeze small batches if you have them left over from dinner. Cook them plain, in broth, or flavored with fresh herbs; use this handy guide for cooking almost any grain. Once they're cooked, allow them to cool completely. Measure them out in half-cup, one-cup, or two-cup servings, label the bags, and freeze them flat to save room (and to help them cook faster).
When you're ready to eat your grains, remove the bag or glass container from the freezer. Pour the contents into a bowl to microwave, or reheat in a small pot on the stove top. Or add your grains to hot pots of soup or to sauté pans when cooking meals. Or place the frozen bag of grains in your lunchbox before heading out the door, and it not only serves as an ice pack, but your grains will also be thawed by lunchtime. They'll make meals and side dishes in minutes - perfect for hot breakfasts or stir-fries, mixed into your bowl of greens, layered in your lunchtime mason jar salads. You can even reuse those plastic freezer bags - just rinse and air-dry.
For reference, here are the calorie counts of half-cup servings of cooked grains:
Grain (1/2 cup cooked) | Calories | Carbs (g) | Fiber (g) | Protein (g) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Barley | 97 calories | 22.2 | 3 | 1.8 |
Farro | 100 calories | 26 | 3.5 | 4 |
Millet | 104 calories | 20.6 | 1.1 | 3.1 |
Quinoa | 111 calories | 19.7 | 2.6 | 4.1 |
Rice, Long Grain Brown | 108 calories | 22.4 | 1.8 | 2.5 |
Rice, Short Grain Brown | 108 calories | 22.2 | 1.8 | 2.5 |

What This Sweet Dad Is Doing For His Son Who Loves Makeup
Makeup is a form of artistic self-expression, and like art, there are no boundaries for who can participate, be it a girl or boy.
If you love something, do it.
At least that's the motto for one family. In a heartwarming blog post, "Real Dads Let Their Sons Do Their Makeup," one father opened up about his youngest son C.J.'s passion for makeup and even lets C.J. practice his skills on him.
"A couple of years ago, C.J. asked if I would allow him to do my makeup. Of course I said yes," wrote the dad. "Why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't I want to be a part of something that brings joy to my son's life?"
The rock-star father even shared photos from their playtime when C.J. had all his eye shadows and lipsticks out, ready to give his father a glamorous makeover. Apparently, C.J. knows exactly what shadows will bring out his dad's baby-blue eyes. Though the dad admits he personally has no interest in beauty or fashion, if that's what his son loves, he will participate because it's about respecting his child's interests. And instead of discouraging C.J.'s feminine side, the whole family has chosen to embrace it, with the mom even writing a book on raising a non-gender-conforming child.
"My son doing my makeup is the same as a dad throwing a football with his son. It's not about what you are doing together; it's about doing it together," he said. "It's about encouraging your children to engage with you. It's about spending time with your child doing something they enjoy doing."
The dad acknowledged that one day C.J. may have a career as a makeup artist . . . or, as we're hoping, his very own beauty vlog.

10 Trends From Your '90s Childhood You Need to Start Wearing Again
We'll admit it: childhood was not our most fashion-conscious era. With outfits chosen mostly by our moms, let's just say we were not the coolest kids on the playground. But it's funny how fashions change over time, because today, dusting off some of those same looks can make you the chicest woman in the room.
So the next time you're browsing through your old photos and looking for a perfect #tbt, don't forget that your childhood self actually had some serious style credibility. Though there are some throwback styles we would definitely rather forget, these 10 classics are totally appropriate to add to your adult wardrobe.
8 Movies From 2017 That Are Already on Netflix
Netflix is excellent at curating the best content for us, and that includes bringing the latest films to our screens ASAP. The streaming service already has a handful of movies from 2017 available, and a few more that are due to drop in the coming weeks. How is Netflix getting all these films so quickly? Well for one, the company snatched up rights to a bunch of movies at the Sundance Film Festival this year; that's why we've gotten such quick access to I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, my favorite indie of 2017 (so far). Why Sarah Paulson Will Probably Play Princess Diana on Feud
Image Source: Getty / Emma McIntyre
Ryan Murphy's latest FX show, Feud, is going to take a royal turn with season two. In February, the creator revealed that the next season of the show would focus on Princess Diana and Prince Charles. Or, more specifically, it will focus on all the drama surrounding their tumultuous relationship and disastrous wedding. After the news broke, we of course honed in on what we will see, but there's a more pressing question: who will we see?
Our immediate thoughts, of course, turned to Sarah Paulson. After all, she's pretty much Ryan Murphy's muse. She's appeared on every season of American Horror Story, she's swept pretty much every award for her portrayal of Marcia Clark on American Crime Story, and she even has a small part in the first season of Feud. Chances are high that she'll be in season two, and all bets are on Princess Diana.
Sarah Paulson as Princess Di makes the most sense. It's another challenging starring role, they're similar enough in the looks department, and it's in line with Murphy's tendency to give Paulson the spotlight. Then, at the American Horror Story panel during LA's Paleyfest, we got even more evidence to support our suspicions.
Image Source: Getty / Anwar Hussein
The AHS panel featured appearances from many of the most recent cast members. Paulson, of course, was in attendance, and so was bona fide horror queen Kathy Bates. At multiple points during the panel, Bates jokingly referred to Paulson as "the people's princess." This phrase first used by British Prime Minister Tony Blair to describe Princess Diana, which is why the moment stuck out so much during the panel. Of course, Bates could just be causing more rumors and murmurs, or she could just be poking fun at Paulson, but there was something about the way she kept bringing it up that made it seem like she knew something more.
For the record, one man mentioned during the Q&A that while Paulson may be "the people's princess," Bates is the queen. While he may not have directly meant Queen Elizabeth II, we're certainly not mad about that casting either. Let's make it happen, Murphy!
Chrissy Teigen Looks Like She's Wearing a Regular Button Down Until You See the Back
If the high-low style seemed short lived, Chrissy Teigen just brought it back. While baking a cake for her daughter's first birthday, the model wore a white top that knotted at her midriff while the back draped to the ground. The cape-like button down flowed as she walked and with billowy sleeves, it was an easy Springtime look. A pair of frayed denim shorts, mirrored sunglasses, and Le Silla gray knee-high boots completed her outfit.
Take notes on Chrissy's look because you're certainly going to see the style again. And if you're feeling super inspired by her ensemble, shop similar shirts below.
The Walking Dead: Maggie Is About to Go Into an Entirely New Direction
With so much sh*t going down on The Walking Dead, it's tempting to look at the comic books as an indicator of what lies ahead. We've already taken peeks at the stories of this season's newest characters, like the new villain Negan and the charismatic King Ezekiel, but there's one mainstay character who really seems to be at a crossroads right now: Maggie Greene. After the devastating loss of her husband, Glenn, poor Maggie seems to have been set adrift. She's currently gearing up for war against the Saviors on the show, but where does her story go in the books?
In the comic books, Maggie heads to the Hilltop Colony and never leaves. She arrives at the community with Sophia, her adopted daughter. (Remember Sophia? She's Carol's daughter, and on the TV show, she dies while the group takes shelter at Hershel Greene's farm. In the books, Carol is dead and Sophia is still alive.) Once she settles in, Maggie gives birth to and raises her son, who she names Hershel after her late father. In the wake of Glenn's death, Maggie becomes more hardened than ever by the apocalyptic world. She carries a newfound anger and harbors a bit of a grudge toward Rick. She becomes instrumental in uniting Hilltop and Alexandria against the Saviors and sets herself apart as a new leader.
The new Maggie is much more violent in the comic books, which means she could go that way on the show as well. After Glenn's death, she beats Rick. Once she gets to Hilltop, she punches Gregory, the community's leader, in the face and later beats Rick up again during an argument. In the wake of the war against the Saviors and Negan's sort-of defeat, the members of the Hilltop community decide that Maggie is more fit to keep things running smoothly. As a leader who is losing his grip, Gregory shows an utter lack of faith and obedience when it comes to Maggie's seizure of power. She eventually calls for his execution, and the group kills him by hanging.
In the most recent issues, Maggie again joins with Alexandria to fight the new and terrifying threat called The Whisperers. Ruled by a ruthless leader called Alpha, The Whisperers are a murderous group disguised as walkers that roams the land nearly undetected. Alpha kills humans and mounts their severed heads on stakes and is actually responsible for the death of King Ezekiel. The last published issue plunges the main characters into the war against this group. When we last see Maggie, Hilltop has caught fire, and she's evacuating with Sophia and Hershel. The fate of the trio is currently unknown.

What the Pretty Little Liars Premiere Pictures Reveal
We're in agony. It's been more than seven months since all the twists and turns of the season seven Summer finale of Pretty Little Liars. In the long and arduous months preceding the show's final 10 episodes, we've only managed to snag mere glimpses of what's to come. We've seen the trailer, we've heard about the stakes, and we've even gotten an idea of how it all will end. That said, there's one question we need to answer first: where will it all begin? We've compiled as much information as possible about the final season premiere.

Russell Brand Opens Up About His Short-Lived Marriage to Katy Perry
Russell Brand was married to Katy Perry from October 2010 to July 2012, and it appears he still holds a special place in his heart for her. During a recent appearance on W Channel's John Bishop: In Conversation With, the 41-year-old comedian reflected on their short-lived marriage, saying that it was difficult to safeguard their relationship from "external influences" because Katy was "obviously very, very occupied and very busy" and that he was "occupied and busy [though] not to the same degree." Despite their split, Russell says, "I still feel very warm towards her." Katy recently dated Orlando Bloom, while Russell is a father to 4-month old daughter Mabel with partner Laura Gallacher.

The Walking Dead: Here's What Happens to Dwight in the Comics
Ever since the gruesome premiere, The Walking Dead has been playing a frustrating game of keep-away with many of the main characters. The second episode focused on Carol and Morgan finding sanctuary in King Ezekiel's care, and the third episode shone a spotlight on a character you may have discounted: Dwight. We've seen him in a handful of episodes since, and it appears that the show is echoing Dwight's an important storyline in the comics, but just where does it go? Let's explore what happens with Dwight in the books, because he plays a vital role in the war against Negan.
What We Already Know
We get some of Dwight's interesting and tragic backstory during the third episode. The reason for his attempted escape (when Daryl first encounters him in the woods) is grim: Dwight's wife, Sherry, has a sister, Tina, who needs medication, but she doesn't have enough to get it from the Saviors. Negan tells her that if she'll marry him, he'll put her on his medical plan, so to speak. Dwight, Sherry, and Tina flee the compound, but Tina dies without her meds. Dwight and Sherry return, and in exchange for sparing their lives, Negan marries Sherry (also "superhot," as he says) and puts an iron to Dwight's face. Dwight is now one of Negan's top men, but it's obvious he still despises Negan. In the season's penultimate episode, we learn that Dwight has surrendered himself to Rick's people, saying he wants to help them.
What Happens in the Comics
Dwight's animosity toward Negan reaches a fever pitch when Negan keeps pushing his sex life with Sherry in Dwight's face, and Dwight decides he's had enough. He becomes a double agent, going over to the Kingdom to share information about Negan and the Saviors with Rick and Ezekiel. At first, they don't trust him, then he reveals the story of how he got his scar. They agree to work with Dwight, and he lays low until war eventually breaks out between the Saviors and Ezekiel's people. He successfully sabotages Negan's efforts to shoot everyone with infected arrows. At one point, Dwight shoots Rick with an arrow, but it's not infected. Rick is able to recover and slash Negan's throat, but Negan survives and becomes Rick's prisoner.
Dwight becomes the de facto leader of the Saviors, who are now relatively tame without Negan at the helm. Later, he assists Rick in the battle against the Whisperers and eventually helps Negan fight the Whisperers as well. After the ordeal with Negan, his relationship with Sherry never recovers, and Dwight remains a tragic figure.
We'll find out how similar the show's storyline will be on the season finale.
This Teen's "Body Hair Positivity" Photos Unleashed a Massive Brawl About Armpits
No matter how many times we try to disrupt the jarring double standards for men and woman, people are still inexplicably disgusted by the sight and idea of body hair on women. And now, we're here again, riled up over the fact that the internet simply cannot handle a woman with armpit hair. Meet Lalonie, a 17-year-old art student, who after flaunting her body hair in a set of now-viral photos, set Twitter on fire (and unfortunately not because her makeup is so damn stunning).
"Body hair positivity post bc I'd never let misogynistic opinions dictate what I do with my body," she wrote alongside the photos, seen above. Instantly, thousands of people replied to Lalonie, some slamming her as "disgusting" and "dirty," and others praising her for embracing her natural body hair so confidently.
All opinions aside, there is one very obvious similarity between all of the comments: people have very strong feelings, both positive and negative, about body hair on women. All she did was post photos of her natural body hair - something men can do freely without judgment - yet Lalonie received negative backlash for hers. The misogyny is real, and it's hairy.
If her empowering message wasn't enough, can we just appreciate the fact that her armpit hair has been dyed pink and the hair on her stomach is sprinkled with glitter?! Technicolor armpits are in, guys.
Keep reading to see how the drama surrounding Lalonie's photos unraveled on Twitter.
11 Things I Wish I'd Known Before I Got Invisalign
I'm 26 years old, and for years, every time I see a celebrity or a person crack open a mouth full of perfectly straight teeth, I can't help but feel envious and a little upset that my teeth don't look that way. Even after braces, my teeth have never been flawless. I'm plagued with an open bite. This means 20 out of 24 of my teeth have significant space between them, even when I bite down. A decade ago, orthodontists told me I would have to get a second round of braces and jaw surgery to fully correct the situation. I put it off for years, because worse than crooked teeth was the thought of having surgery and braces (again)!
However, this year, my orthodontist recommended an alternative treatment, Invisalign, that had a good chance of straightening my teeth and correcting my bite without surgery. Unlike braces, which use metal wires and brackets to straighten teeth, Invisalign moves teeth with a series of custom-made aligners (aka retainers) made from clear plastic, so they are far less noticeable than braces. I jumped on board right away, but I didn't do as much research as I probably should have. Though I'm only a month into my Invisalign program - and am really happy with the results so far! - here are some of the things I wish I'd known before I took the plunge.
- You might receive more attachments than you are expecting. Recent Invisalign procedures may include attachments, or enamel-colored ridges that stick to your teeth like braces brackets. These attachments click into the Invisalign aligners to help the teeth move more effectively. Without the aligners in, the attachment bumps are virtually invisible. But with the aligners in, it looks like you have clear braces. My orthodontist warned me that I would have two attachments, but I ended up with 20. So, most of the day, I look like I'm wearing braces.
- Recommended wear time is 22 hours. I don't know what I was thinking . . . I guess I figured I could leave the aligners at home when going to a party or out to dinner. But nope. I keep them in unless I'm eating, and I don't leave home without packing an aligner case along with a travel-size toothbrush.
- You may lose weight. Since the wear time is 22 hours, that leaves two hours to eat three meals a day. It's pretty ambitious, but I do my best to, because it really beats trying to pry the aligners off my teeth more than necessary. The aligners are supertight and especially hard to remove if teeth are sore. While you can always take the aligners out for snacks, I've found it's a pain to remove the aligners and rebrush the teeth more than three times a day. Despite my attempts to pack in the calories at each meal (I'll have a smoothie, omelet, and yogurt for breakfast, etc.), I still am hungry all the time. I lost a little weight my first month, but I've returned to my normal weight after introducing a protein smoothie to every meal.
- Kiss lipstick goodbye. Colored lip gloss and lipsticks are a thing of the past. They easily stick to the aligners and the attachments. Clear lip balm and gloss are OK, but they can sometimes leave a waxy residue on the aligners. These days, I'm all about applying dramatic eye makeup to draw attention away from my mouth.
- No more manicures. The aligners are nearly impossible to remove without the help of your nails, so unless you're OK with chipped nails, stick to buffing your digits over painting them.
- Kissing is awkward. Yep, there is no avoiding the giant plastic device all up and around your mouth, and it's definitely a mojo quencher. Some people on the Internet claim Invisalign killed their love life, but I think that's a little extreme. It helps to have a significant other who is cool with your retainer mouth. It also helps to try to factor in some of those freebie minutes with your lover.
- You'll brush your teeth a dozen times a day. All right, maybe more like six, but it feels like a dozen. Plaque and food particles can get in the way of the teeth moving plus can lead to some seriously stanky breath and cavities. As a result, it's best to brush your teeth after eating anything. I use three different types of toothpaste and toothbrushes, since I have to stash them at home, at work, and in my purse. At home, I use Nimbus, a supersoft toothbrush, with Tom's of Maine Whole Care Toothpaste. At work, I use more aggressive products to get the teeth superclean and minty: Oral-B Pro-Health All-in-One Toothbrush (it's like a massage chair for your teeth and gums) and Arm & Hammer Advance White Toothpaste. Lastly, for my purse, I have a crummy, generic travel-size toothbrush (it gets the job done) with a travel-size version of Colgate Optic White Toothpaste. I floss with Oral-B Glide. I don't use mouthwash - the sweet residue sticks inside the aligners, and if it's blue, it could potentially stain the teeth.
- The attachments stain really easily. I have seen it so many times - my coffee- and tea-drinking friends who didn't stick to a regimented tooth brushing habit ended up staining their attachments. The practically invisible composite begins to look like orange corn kernel pieces stuck all over their teeth. Yuck! As a result, every cup of coffee or tea must be immediately followed by a teethbrushing.
- Cold water only. That being said, while wearing Invisalign, you can only drink cold water and maybe some clear sparkling water. Hot tea will stain and warp the aligners. Sugary and alcoholic drinks will lead to plaque buildup. I even attempted to test the waters with a glass of white wine, and it stained the aligners immediately. Darn!
- Whitening is not an option. Especially if you have attachments in place, whitening is not an option until the Invisalign treatment is complete. However, brushing your teeth often and avoiding stain-causing beverages will perk up your enamel a bit.
- There's a "refinement period." I thought I'd be done after 40 trays, until my sister said, "Oh no, honey. After that, you'll have a set of refinement aligners to fix any stubborn teeth." So basically, after the initial set of aligners are complete, Invisalign will create another set of refinement aligners to correct any slightly off teeth. Ugh, so my treatment has no foreseeable end in sight.
Despite all the cons, I'm committed to seeing the treatment out, even if it takes a few years. I've already noticed a difference in my bite (I can chew with six molars now! Woo!), and my teeth have definitely started to straighten. I've gotten over being self-conscious about my Invisalign, and I smile bigger than ever, even with the aligners in. At the end of the day, I know I'm taking action toward having the perfect teeth I've always envied, and that feels like it's worth the sacrifices.

Hallelujah! It's Literally Raining Tequila Thanks to This Magical Cloud
It's raining tequila - well, at a Berlin art gallery it is. In a very convincing attempt to draw in tourists, the Mexico Tourism Board created an indoor cloud made of vaporized tequila that allows visitors to actually collect alcoholic raindrops.
The tourism board consulted with creative agency Lapiz on the tequila cloud. In an interview with The Huffington Post, Lapiz executive creative director Luciana Cani explained how the cloud works: "The tequila was pushed into an invisible plastic structure where sprays of tequila mixed with the vapor formed the cloud." She also said that the cloud is even meant to mimic local weather patterns.
While the cloud is only temporarily on display at Urban Spree, it is rumored that the tourism board will soon bring it to other locations worldwide. Ahead, check out pictures of the ingenious creation.
Yes, Hilary Duff Knows Those Disney Channel Commercials Were "Awkward"
I'd like to preface this post with the disclaimer that I will be making an offensive amount of Lizzie McGuire puns, and I will not apologize for it.
A few weeks back, I received an email from a publicist I work with frequently. The subject: "Exclusive Beauty Interview." The body read as follows, with no punctuation: "Can you chat on the phone today briefly." This is PR code for "I've got something big for you, but I can't document it." (And also, "I'm frantically typing this.") Frankly, beauty exclusives are hard to come by, and the term "exclusive" is used so frequently that it's kind of obsolete at this point. The internet has ruined all hopes of ever keeping a major beauty launch under wraps - plenty of brands have been forced at the hands of Instagram to reveal collections several months ahead of a major launch because someone happened to snap an embargoed mailing or got paid to snap photos that they could leak on social media. So I went into the conversation with low expectations.
It was then the clouds parted, the sun shined brightly on my heavily rooted head, and I learned that Hilary Duff was going to be working with hair care and color brand Joico on their new line of blonde-centric products, Blonde Life. She was going icy blond - a departure from her own heavy roots she'd been sporting - and they wanted to offer us the opportunity to not only film the transformation but meet with Hilary as well.
Needless to say, I was absolutely beside myself. This is what dreams are made of, amirite? I have written about this time and again, and at the risk of sounding like an extra from Mean Girls, at 13, I heard Hilary Duff used Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray, so I bought Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray. I was a middle school plebeian without a Disney paycheck and had no business buying rose water with my hard-earned allowance, but as a fellow Texan and devout Lizzie McGuire fan, I knew she wouldn't steer me in the wrong direction. (And maybe she was paid to hold the product during a pedicure, but clearly I didn't care.) Almost 20 years later, here I am, still using it to spritz away dry skin the political climate has sucked out of my dermis.
Fast-forward: the day has come. Hilary is getting over 200 foils put in her head by Riawna Capri, co-owner of Nine Zero One Salon on Melrose Place. You know Riawna: she works with the TV starlet set: Emma Roberts, Julianne Hough, Nina Dobrev. She's worked the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and even gives Steven Tyler extensions every few months.
We're set up in the downstairs blowout area of the salon, separated from the hustle and bustle of salon floor upstairs. The glass doors and windows have been covered with beige paper to keep the paparazzi that followed Hilary after dropping her son of at school from getting a picture, and also, presumably, from gawkers. Hilary is unphased as I walk in: she's catching up on her phone and conversing with Riawna and the assistants. She's comfortable, having worked with Riawna time and again.
Our crew had been filming for about three hours when I showed up at 1 p.m., having come from an earlier interview with Kerry Washington. (I know, I know.) The PR and Joico team were milling about as Riawna applied approximately 200 foils to Hilary's head; they set up a nice area of sweets with The Blonde Life written in icing. Lunch was catered from Heirloom. This was as LA as it gets: a fabulous party of sorts, being filmed, of one Hilary Duff getting the blonding of a lifetime.
My job is to interview people. That doesn't mean I don't occasionally get nervous or giddy. I was trying my best to sedate my inner fangirl and also praying to God she liked me on a personal level. I asked my producer how she was. "She's so sweet. And normal. She's been talking to me," she said. And thank god! Because I couldn't handle it if Hilary Duff was a diva.
Full disclosure: I didn't talk to her much while she was in the chair. I know how I am when I get my hair done: it's like yoga. It's where I zone out. I stare straight into space or gossip with my stylist or colorist, then I get a toe-curling scalp massage and nearly fall asleep during the blowout. (Just me?) But after the big reveal happened, I casually plopped myself down in the chair next to her and got on my phone. Before I knew it, we were chatting about Younger, being from Texas, and our love of queso.
Here's what I have to say about Hilary: she was even more wonderful than I could have imagined. I feel like she was a person who hasn't been jaded by Hollywood. She's got a good head on her shoulders and when she speaks to you, she looks you in the eye and treats you as if you're just as important as someone she's known for years and legitimately cares about. Even though I might never see her again, it was fulfilling as a fan (and professional) to know that people are the same on and off camera.
During our filmed interview, we covered everything: how her new color reminds her of Lizzie McGuire, that photo of her kissing her son ("This was so annoying to me!"), and yes, those Disney Channel commercials.

10 Influencers Just Designed New MAC Lipsticks - and They're Not What You'd Expect
If you take a look back at MAC's collaboration histories, you'll see that among big names like Lady Gaga and Zac Posen are up-and-coming artists, be they in the fields of fashion, music, or makeup artistry. That's why I wasn't surprised that when the brand announced its upcoming 10-piece lipstick collection designed by influencers (which POPSUGAR exclusively revealed earlier this year), MAC's team had selected a healthy mix of 10 world-famous and under-the-radar beauty pros.
According to Catherine Bomboy Dougherty, the senior vice president of public relations at MAC, that progressive attitude is in the very foundation of the brand. "It's what MAC was built on," she said in an interview with POPSUGAR.
The ideology of "all ages, all races, all sexes" is built into MAC's credo, but I'd believe that "all things chic" is written between the lines of that mission statement. I went on a press trip to MAC's official labs in Toronto to meet them and witness the creation of their bespoke lipsticks, so I can vouch that the 10 influencers selected exude an effortless sense of cool. But more importantly, they really know what they're talking about when it comes to makeup.
I viewed all the different levels of the formulation process, which included mood boards, essays about the ideal color, and hand-mixing pigment in a cosmetic chemist's lab. Each person creating their own lipstick was absolutely fastidious, often adjusting tones by practically invisible fractions to craft their perfect shade.
The perfect shades themselves surprised me. All but one of the influencers created their own variation of nude lipstick. The outlier chose red, which she would have liked to name Vic Woo (a combination of her own name and the iconic MAC Ruby Woo lipstick). I had expected the punchy, rainbow hues that many of them wear on their social channels, but when it came down to it, they simply wanted their neutral lipstick dreams realized. I totally respect this. The tones shifted from deep to light, cool to warm, and matte to sheer. While some may look similar to the naked eye, I saw firsthand that many of the amateur chemists had women of a wide range of skin tones test out their shade as they mixed them. It was clear that they wanted their formula to work well on a variety of skin tones.
"That's one of the reasons why we have such amazing respect for them," said Bomboy Dougherty. "They are really well-versed on the products, the textures, the finishes, the ingredients, the undertones." She laughed as she added, "I felt like when we were working with these people that some of them know our product better than we do sometimes."
That understanding of MAC formulas comes from the influencers' long relationships with the products, be they personal or professional. A lot of them started out as makeup artists before shifting their attention to social media. In fact, Samantha Ravndahl - known as @ssssamanthaa to her 2.4 million followers on Instagram - worked at a MAC counter in her early days of makeup artistry. "Our artists at the brand were so excited that we chose her," revealed Bomboy Dougherty. "She's part of that community and our artists internally really support that."
Sadly, you'll only be able to buy the colors made by your country's corresponding influencer(s). For example, if you're based in the United States, you will have shopping access exclusively to Gabriel Zamora and Laura Lee's lipsticks, while Brazilian MAC fans can just get Victoria Ceridono's shade. But believe me when I say that all 10 of these individuals are worth getting to know. Read on for more insight into their creative processes, including their fantasy names for their shades (which include inspiration from Disney princesses, furry friends, and their fans) and a glimpse at the shades before they launch later this year.

A Twist on Lemon Water That Can Help You Hit Your Weight-Loss Goals
Heard drinking hot lemon water can help you drop pounds? And also heard that grapefruit can help you lose weight? Put the two together by sipping on this twist of the classic lemon water: cut up a few wedges of grapefruit and squeeze the juice into your water (hot or cold), or place a couple thin slices into your glass.
While grapefruit water itself isn't a magic weight-loss elixir, the fruit is a low-cal way to add vibrant flavor to H2O. So if you choose it over a glass of juice or fancy Starbucks coffee, it can save you a hundred calories or more, which adds up over time. Grapefruit is also considered a fat-burning food that can kick-start metabolism and curb cravings.

6 Things You Never Knew About Applebee's, Straight From a Manager
Your dependable, casual grill chain seems to be going through some things. A manager and former server at Applebee's recently spilled all of his secrets in an enlightening Reddit Ask Me Anything. During the honest discussion, the employee shared a lot of startling revelations about the quality of the food, as well as the current state of the business. Read on for the most interesting tidbits straight from the source.
A lot of the food is microwaved.
When someone asked how much of the food at Applebee's is microwaved, the employee responded, "I'll give you an answer no one will, the amount of food cooked in a microwave is pretty high." He also clarified that most menu items are microwaved just before being served. "We prep food that morning for the day and then heat it up in the microwave for your meal," he said.
The most overpriced items are also the most popular.
When asked what the most overpriced menu item is, the employee said, "anything with grilled chicken." He added, "Those chicken breasts, individually, cost like 30 cents. I think those are our biggest profit margin items. So things like the Fiesta Lime Chicken, Cedar Grilled Lemon Chicken, and the 3 Cheese Chicken Cavatappi." The employee also said he was never specifically instructed to promote these chicken dishes; however, they do tend to be the most popular.
But if you're looking for a healthy option, chicken is your best bet.
Though he admittedly doesn't eat at work often, the employee said his pick would be the grilled chicken. "I'm a health nut so I don't eat at work a lot, but when I do I spring for the grilled chicken breast," he said, adding, "It usually depends on who's on the grill though. Some guys cook dry chicken. Nothing is worse than when chicken acts like turkey."
It's pretty easy to get your money back.
At certain locations, it's pretty likely that you can be refunded if you're unhappy with the service or anything you ordered. How likely? The employee said, "Honestly? At my store, very. Very. Very. Likely." He added, "I mean our discount percentage is pretty reasonable and I can afford to discount a fair amount of meals."
A lot of the good deals have gone away - and customers are upset.
The employee revealed how removing discounts and deals has affected the business. "In our district they also did away with half priced apps for a while. People complained, and we lost a lot of business," he said. Amazingly, Applebee's also used to offer free refills on fries! "It's dumb we did away with that," he astutely noted.
There is a rivalry with Chili's.
Let's face it - Applebee's is often thrown into the same culinary category as Chili's. When asked if a rivalry exists between the two, he explained that there is a slight one. "They recognize that they are catering to the same clientele," he said, adding, "I think Chili's has done a good job of avoiding all the problems Applebee's has created for themselves."

Love is funny, you know? Sometimes you meet "the one" when you're both single and ready to mingle, and other times . . . not so much. We all know the story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie falling in love on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith while he was technically still married to Jennifer Aniston, and LeAnn Rimes's relationship with Eddie Cibrian involved infidelity on both sides. In addition to those couples, there are a handful of other stars who happened to meet their current loves while they happened to be taken - and it's a habit that goes back decades.
Spring's Biggest Makeup Trend Marries Glam With a Natural Approach
I personally think it's odd that people keep saying no-makeup makeup is a trend, because it's been around forever. At this point, it's a classic look, right? But there is a trend popping up all over Instagram and YouTube that's been deemed the "natural glam" look. Some of your favorite YouTubers have interpreted their version, but the version I'm talking about is where the lips look almost naked but super pouty - kind of like, "Oh, she just got her lips done" flushed. The skin is very fresh and light, but the eyes are all drama.
This is the look that some heterosexual men will see and comment to their friends, "she's so naturally beautiful!" but her entire face is beat with makeup. Because nobody's lash line is naturally an inch thick, honey. I decided to show how I interpret the look, since it's one I tend to go to often. Let me know how you create the look and your favorite products in the comment section below!

American Women Revealed How Much They Spend on Beauty - and the Amount Will Blow Your Mind
If you've been feeling a bit guilty lately about excessive beauty spending, you might want to sit down for this one. Beauty retailer SkinStore recently conducted a survey on the spending habits of American women when it comes to makeup and skin care. The brand found that the average woman spends over $300,000 in their lifetime on face products.
As it turns out, though, that's not the only shocking piece of information from the survey (but realizing our favorite swag could cost even more than the typical cost of medical school is kind of outrageous!). We discovered the cost breakdown of the average face adds up to about $8 per day, with many using up to 16 products every morning.
The states that are racking up major bills on beauty are predominately located on the East Coast, with New Yorkers and Connecticut-based babes having the most expensive faces at $11 daily. New Yorkers are also the slowest to apply their products in the morning, spending up to 21 minutes in front of the mirror. On the flip side, Californians spend three minutes max on their beauty routine (ladies, please share your speedy secrets!).
Keep reading below to discover more fascinating facts about American beauty routines, and start budgeting. Considering the price of your look, you might want to skip that fancy morning coffee.

In Praise of the Unflinchingly Honest Approach to Teen Suicide on 13 Reasons Why
Trigger Warning: Discussions of suicide and depression below. There are also spoilers for 13 Reasons Why throughout.
There's a good chance Hannah Baker is just like you. At the very least, Hannah Baker is just like someone you know; she's smart, she has a bright future ahead of herself, she has loving parents, she just wants to be liked. Maybe that's what makes the fact that Hannah Baker slices her wrists open and bleeds to death in 13 Reasons Why so difficult to swallow.
Netflix's 13-episode drama, an adaptation of Jay Asher's best-selling 2007 YA novel, follows quiet high school student Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) after he receives a box of 13 cassette tapes from Hannah (Katherine Langford), his classmate and crush who killed herself a few weeks earlier. "Hi, this is Hannah," she announces on the first tape. "Settle in, because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended." Each cassette, and each episode, reveals a person (a.k.a. one of the titular "reasons") she deems responsible for her eventual decision to commit suicide. Hannah has another classmate, Tony, make sure everyone included on the tapes passes them on to the next person one by one, or else he'll release a copy of them to the public. Since the reasons range from cruel bullying to rape, it's obvious why the people on the tapes want their secrets to stay under wraps.
While listening to the first tape, Clay rides his bike to the park where everything started for Hannah, at her posthumous instruction. Distracted, he swerves out of the way of an oncoming car only to collide head first with one parked on the side of the street. From then on, the gash he gets on his forehead from the accident is featured prominently throughout each episode during close-ups, or whenever he looks in the mirror. As Clay sinks deeper and deeper into Hannah's world, gradually understanding why she did what she did, the cut begins to heal until it's nothing more than a green and yellow bruise; a physical manifestation of Clay's reckoning with the tragedy.
And tragedy it most definitely is. With the rate of suicide in the US climbing among adolescent girls, 13 Reasons Why could not have come at a better time. Make no mistake, though; this show is not a PSA. Instead, it's an unflinching portrayal of suicide and it's aftermath. I can't recall ever having seen a TV show address mental health and suicide in such a brutally honest way. The Jason Foundation, a youth suicide prevention organization, reports that not only is suicide the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24, but that there are an average of over 5,240 suicide attempts by young people in grades 7-12 each day. That's part of what makes show show feel like a thriller, of sorts. What happened to Hannah Baker could happen to someone you know, and the worst part is you might not even realize it. Like some kind of invisible horror movie villain, depression sneaks up on you. "What does it really look like?" Hannah asks in the penultimate episode, referencing her mental state right before she chose to kill herself. "Here's the scary thing: it looks like nothing . . . It feels like a deep, always blank, endless nothing."
I've struggled with depression since I myself was Hannah's age, and never before has a piece of dialogue knocked the wind out of me harder than that line. Immediately tears filled my eyes, partly because I couldn't believe feelings I've dealt with my entire life were finally being portrayed accurately, and partly because I wish I'd had a show like this to watch when I was 16. I wish that I'd known I wasn't alone and that conversations about mental health are necessary parts of life, rather than things that should be swept under the rug.
This is why the scene of Hannah killing herself is so, so important for everyone to watch (although "endure" might be a better word). After a school counselor, Mr. Porter (Derek Luke), tells her that the only choice she has is to reveal the name of her rapist to him or "move on" with her life, she considers her fate sealed. She steals a pack of razors from her parents' drug store. She goes home. She turns on the bathtub. She gets inside of it in all of her clothes. She slices deep gashes into her arms and bleeds out, as water spills over the ceramic white wall of the tub in a waterfall of unsettling pink. The camera doesn't give you an out by zooming-in on her face or panning away as she cuts herself, either. Hannah dies in a horrific, gut-wrenching way, and you're going to face it whether you want to or not.
This series is not a campaign quietly and politely asking people who feel down not to kill themselves; it's an unwavering account of a depressed, brutalized teenage girl who thinks she has no way out. There will be think-pieces accusing the scene of being too graphic, too much like "torture porn," or done simply for shock value. I disagree. Showrunner Brian Yorkey doesn't hold back from depicting the horrors of being Hannah Baker (or a teenager in general) up until that episode, so why should they stop being truthful during the most important scene of the entire series? Anything less than showing Hannah's death in all of its brutal, bloody reality would be a disservice to the character, the show, and its audience. This series is not a campaign quietly and politely asking people who feel down not to kill themselves; it's an unwavering account of a depressed, brutalized teenage girl who thinks she has no way out. You might not like what you see, but this is a choice thousands of teenagers make a year. This is real life.
A lot of people may consider suicide as a "selfish" act, but for many of those thinking of killing themselves, they see it as an end to their pain and a way to stop being a burden to those around them. Mental illness is a tricky, slippery thing. As you see with Hannah and her parents, played by Brian d'Arcy James and Kate Walsh (who has never been better), the voices of loved ones saying that they're there for you can be softer than the voices telling you that maybe, just maybe, life would be easier for everyone if you just disappeared. Hannah has those exact thoughts shortly before she makes her fateful choice. Try to imagine, just for a second, the depth of her pain: how could the show not try to make that as clear as possible?
"She let people intimidate her over and over and over until she disappeared," Clay says during a tense conversation with Mr. Porter after he finds out the role he played in Hannah's death. "You can't love someone back to life," Mr. Porter replies. Clay, a determined look in his eyes, hits back, "You can try." And that is what 13 Reasons Why does. It tries to tell an honest story about an epidemic that is all-too real for a lot of families. Hannah isn't the only one dealing with demons, either. Clay has mental health issues of his own, another character turns to alcohol as a way to subconsciously deal with the fact she was raped, and another has an abusive home. The list goes on and on, shining as bright a light as possible on the things people experience everyday.
Whether it gets picked up for a second season or not, it's obvious that Netflix has achieved something special here. And this is exactly the kind of storytelling everyone (not just teenagers, and not just their parents) needs to see.

We knew that the collab would include some liquid lipsticks and a highlighter, but we know what the shades inside are.
As you know, the packaging (including the boxes, compact, and tube) is black, and this is a first for Jeffree's range. The accent is holographic, which is so hot right now. We're particularly enamored that both Jeffree and Manny's signature logos - a star and a moon, respectively - are on every aspect of the products, including the sticker on the back of the highlighter compact and pressed into the powder itself.
The collection officially launches at 10 a.m. PT on April 8, and you'll be able to purchase all three items in a bundle for $50. However, if you'd rather buy items one piece at a time, the liquid lipsticks will cost $18 and the Skin Frost will be $29. In another first, Jeffree is allowing the use of a discount code on his website. Enter MANNYMUA at checkout and you'll be able to get 10 percent off individual items from the collaboration.
Watch the video above to see the products in action, then keep reading to see the products themselves and swatches of each shade.
Naya Rivera Is Reportedly Dating David Spade
It looks like Naya Rivera has a new man in her life. According to E! News, the former Glee star is dating David Spade. The 30-year-old actress and 52-year-old comedian have reportedly been trying to keep their new romance private, and a source close to them revealed they've been seeing each other "for a couple of weeks now." While their romance is fairly new, the pair was spotted packing on the PDA during a romantic vacation in Hawaii earlier this week. Naya famously filed for divorce from husband Ryan Dorsey back in November after two years of marriage, and is a mom to 1-year-old son Josey. David has been previously linked to Pamela Anderson, Julie Bowen, and Heather Locklear, and shares 8-year-old daughter Harper with former Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace.

18 Beloved Shows That Are Ending in 2017
While it would be lovely if all our favorite shows lasted until the end of time (just kidding, remember the last season of Lost?), all good things must come to an end. In this case, some of our favorite TV shows are already scheduled to finish up in 2017. Not quite canceled but not quite renewed, these shows were given a gift from the network gods: a forewarning of their inevitable demise. So that you can plan out your emotions accordingly, here's a list of the shows that we know are airing their final episode in 2017. As you read, please hum the lyrics to Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)." Thank you.
Trust Us, a Few Seconds With the Foam Roller Will Revitalize Your Legs
Listen, we know that not every exercise is for everyone, but this recovery technique is a must. For anyone. Truly.
Your IT bands (or iliotibial bands) are thick strands of fascia that run from your hips to your knees on the side of your thighs. If your IT bands are tight - as in, you've never rolled them out or stretched them before - they can pull on your knees and can even pull the knee out of alignment, causing pain and inflammation in the joint. No good! But this is so preventable. Like, a few seconds a day preventable.
We'd recommend it for anyone who is active at all, running and beyond. It's an essential recovery technique and feels like a deep-tissue massage but doesn't come with the deep-tissue massage price tag. In fact, you can get your very own foam roller for less than $10.
Take 30 to 60 seconds out of your day (seriously, that's all you need!) and roll out your IT bands. It's for your long-term health, as well as pain and injury prevention - you can spare yourself so many painful moments and missed workouts by taking this small amount of time! Here's how you do it.
- Lying on your side, similar to a side plank position, place the roller on the outside of your thigh just below your hip.
- Place your top arm on your hip or in front of you for balance, and using your top leg for stability, roll the length of your thigh, stopping just above the knee. Go slowly, and do not roll over the knee joint. Keep your bottom leg lifted, or lower it down to the floor if you can. Chances are high that this move will be painful, which is a sign that you really need to do this!
- If you find an especially tender point, try rolling forward and back to release this spot.
- Roll for 30 to 60 seconds, then switch sides.
