10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Kate Middleton and Prince William's Wedding

Kate Middleton and Prince William will be celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary on April 29. Even if you are familiar with Kate's breathtaking Alexander McQueen gown, the couple's balcony kisses, and their heartwarming wedding vows, there are probably still a few tidbits you may not know about their big day. Read on to find out what they are.

  1. Their wedding date was considered a national holiday. Will and Kate tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011. The date was declared a national holiday and the offer extended to British territories, including Bermuda, Turks and Caicos, and the Falkland Islands.
  2. Kate did her own makeup. The duchess reportedly took makeup lessons from London makeup artist Arabella Preston. Wedding planner Mark Niemierko previously told People, "She's had about three or four lessons with Kate at her private flat in Chelsea and has also gone very privately to Clarence House. Arabella was supposed to be coming on the day as well but now she isn't, because Kate's comfortable and confident in doing it herself."
  3. The royal couple spared no expense. Will and Kate's wedding total came to a whopping $34 million. While they were able to get their venue free of charge, the flowers cost $800,000, the cake was $80,000, and Kate's dress totaled at $434,000.
  4. Will and Harry's uniforms were sweatproof. The duo's military attire was custom-made with sweat-wicking materials in the hopes of keeping them cool throughout the ceremony.
  5. Kate gave a sweet nod to Will with her bouquet. The arrangement featured hyacinth, lily of the valley, ivy, and one flower called sweet William.
  6. The ceremony trees went on to find a happy home. The aisles of Westminster Abbey were lined with English field maples, which were replanted at Prince Charles's vacation home in Wales the following day.
  7. Kate stuck to tradition and wore something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. Some of the lace on her Alexander McQueen dress was old, her earrings were a wedding gift from her parents, she borrowed Queen Elizabeth II's tiara, and she had a blue ribbon sewn into her gown.
  8. Ellie Goulding performed at their wedding. The British singer performed her own rendition of Elton John's "Your Song" for the couple's first dance. While attending London Fashion Week in 2016, she revealed she "was so nervous, my hands were shaking."
  9. There was no big exchanging of rings. Before the wedding, the palace released a statement about Will's decision to ditch tradition and go ringless, saying, "It is simply down to personal preference. It was something the couple discussed but Prince William isn't one for jewelry."
  10. The wedding was watched by billions. According to several outlets, 2 billion people watched the royal wedding live. Nearly 23 million people in the US alone watched the nuptials on networks like CNN, NBC, ABC, Telemundo, and CBS.

9 Things You Never Knew About Your Child's Day at School, Straight From a Teacher

While parents understand that a lot happens in between dropping their child off at school and seeing them at the end of the day, many don't recognize exactly what it's like. Along with the books, tests, and classroom assignments, your child's world is revolving around actively turning into a little person within his or her classroom community. In order for parents to better relate to their children and understand their daily experiences, one anonymous teacher shared nine things about a typical school day that most parents don't realize - but should.

They turn into your mini me - for better or for worse.

Why your child acts or speaks a certain way usually all makes sense to teachers come parent-teacher conferences. But your mannerisms and expressions aren't the only things your little one brings to the classroom; they also share your team spirit, work ethic, and drive - or lack thereof. Your problems also have a way of creeping into your child's day and teachers as well as their friends definitely pick up on it. The impact of a fight you had that your little one overheard or a chaotic morning can be observed in your child even after you've forgotten about it.

Recess means something different for every child.

Most kids love recess, but it can be for two very different reasons. While this time is an opportunity to go outside and run around with friends, some embrace it as a chance to spend time with their teacher in a more personal setting. Sometimes recess is when your child is thriving on the court or making new friends, but it can also be when they are developing confidence and feeling secure in the classroom setting thanks to some extra time inside instead of out.

Just because they do it at home doesn't mean they can do it at school.

Oftentimes parents are frustrated with tests that are marked incorrect because they know their child can do it - they even saw them answering those questions correctly at home! However, this can be a warped sense of reality and parents need to understand what they see at home isn't what happens at school because of their involvement. Parents who hover too much during homework time or "help" with assignments are actually hurting their child's growth because when they have to do the same work at school (and independently), they don't know how. These kids don't know how to correctly answer questions in school even though they got them right at home because they don't know how to complete all of the steps with out some extra help from you. Your involvement outside of school can hurt them in the classroom and leave them struggling even more.

Every child has a role within the classroom community.

Your kids are essentially dealing the same politics that parents experience in the adult world. As kids interact within their classroom community, roles are unconsciously given and both kids and teachers work within these labels. Children know who the kind kid is if they're having a bad day, the troublemaker, and the good student, and they naturally embrace their own roles while finding where they fit. Where their spot is on the carpet is also a good indicator of their role - teachers often place the kids they can depend on to pay attention in the back or a shy child next to another who has a reputation for always being friendly. This gives students an equal opportunity to learn within those roles.

Hurt feelings aren't always a bad thing.

School isn't just about reading and writing; it's also about learning social skills that are equally important. During their time in the classroom, children are learning how to become people. Kids can be mean - oftentimes because they don't realize - but when your child's feelings get hurt during the day, it's an invaluable opportunity for them to learn how to react in an appropriate way and recover from the upset.

They blossom when you drop them.

Just because your child seems shy or clingy around you doesn't mean that's how they still are moments after you leave. Some children really do transform into completely different people when they aren't guided by you and it's important for parents to never assume that their child takes on the same role at school as they do at home.

There's way more joy than you realize.

Despite the dread of homework and agony of tests, school can be a bright area for your child. Kids still laugh and play throughout the day and within that, they are learning how to communicate, be good citizens, and work within a community. They might come home upset about the amount of work or a mean kid, but that doesn't mean that there weren't smiles and laughter during the day.

You're probably thinking about them way more than they're thinking about you.

Separation can be hard for some students, but despite the drop-off meltdowns, kids quickly forget the upset after their tears have dried. While many parents spend all morning thinking about how upset their child was and worrying about how he or she is doing, most kids quickly recover and don't realize how much they missed you until you are united again. Even if your child was hysterical when you said goodbye, chances are you weren't the focus of the rest of their day.

Their teacher has their best interests at heart - even if he or she is teaching them Common Core.

Most teachers are just as dedicated to your child's development as you are. Even if it seems like what your child is doing is a waste of time, you have to trust that your child is going to gain something from it, even if it wasn't what or how you learned. If your child comes home with what seems like a ridiculous assignment, often it's because his or her teacher doesn't have a choice in the matter and is embracing it to make the most of the learning opportunity for your kid.

David Schwimmer and Wife Zoe Buckman Separate After 6 Years of Marriage

After nearly seven years of marriage, David Schwimmer and his wife, Zoe Buckman, are taking some time apart. The couple, who are parents to 5-year-old daughter Cleo, confirmed the news with a joint statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday, saying, "It is with great love, respect and friendship that we have decided to take some time apart while we determine the future of our relationship. Our priority is, of course, our daughter's happiness and well being during this challenging time, and so we ask for your support and respect for our privacy as we continue to raise her together and navigate this new chapter for our family." The couple met in 2007 on the set of Run in London, and they tied the knot in 2010.

American Horror Story: All the Definite Connections Between the 6 Seasons

It's always thrilling to see what's on the horizon on American Horror Story. Now that we're past season six, we've gotten a solid idea of how Roanoke ties into the rest of the series. Up until the finale, we hadn't seen characters from previous seasons, and even before Lana Winters came back, Roanoke had drawn plenty more threads between the existing seasons. Of course, we have plenty of unconfirmed theories (including some fan theories that are truly wild), but at this juncture, we're focusing only on those threads that are concrete. Let's look back at all the times two (or more) AHS installments definitely intersected.

A Quick Reminder of the Movies Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone Have Costarred In

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling have shaped up to be quite the onscreen duo. La La Land earned rave reviews and slayed the award-season circuit, winning all seven of the Golden Globes it was up for and scoring Oscar nods for both Stone and Gosling. (Emma won!) They clearly love working together, because they keep doing it. It's been seven years since they initially costarred in a film, so in case you've forgotten, here are the movies they've appeared in together.

This Bride Wore Nearly a Week's Worth of Gowns - and You'll Remember Them All

There's nothing easy about planning a wedding, especially an Indian wedding, where the happy occasion can last up to five days. The perfect example? When my older sister, Shefali, got married to the man of her dreams, Bhavesh. The wedding took place in Dubai in November 2015 at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, which has views of the iconic Burj Al Arab in the background.

The theme of the wedding was Once Upon a Time, pretty fitting since it was our family tradition to go to Disney World at least once a year, and she was marrying her Prince Charming. Read on to see each of the seven amazing outfits that truly made this a fairy-tale wedding.

What Did Kate Middleton Do Before Becoming a Royal?

Image Source: Getty / Tim Graham

For most of us, Kate Middleton came into our lives officially when her engagement to Prince William was announced back in October 2010. When the couple married in April 2011, the world was introduced to the woman we now know as the duchess of Cambridge, a wife, humanitarian, mother of two, and of course, future queen. With all the information we've gotten about Kate's duties as duchess, we started thinking about what her life was like before she was thrust into the spotlight as a global icon. Sure, in a lot of ways she's changed since getting married (who hasn't?), but we have to believe that underneath her title, she's still the same old Kate. Here's what her royal highness was up to before she became a member of Britain's most famous family.

Working Girl

After graduating from the University of St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland, Kate accepted a position as an accessory buyer with British retailer Jigsaw. The chain's founder, Belle Robinson, has since revealed details about what Kate was like as an employee: "I was so impressed by her," she told The Standard in 2008. "She sat in the kitchen at lunchtime and chatted with everyone from the van drivers to the accounts girls. She wasn't precious."

In November 2007, Kate decided to leave Jigsaw and began working as a photographer, website designer, and marketing officer for her parents' event planning company, Party Pieces. The following year she launched a junior brand to the firm called First Birthdays, and continued to work with her family until January 2011, just months before she married William.

Sister, Sister

Postcollege, Kate moved into a flat on Old Church Street in London's exclusive Chelsea neighborhood with her sister Pippa; their parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, purchased the apartment in 2002 for all three of their children to live in. Pippa continued to reside there with their brother James well after Kate married Will and moved to a four-bedroom farmhouse on the Welsh island of Anglesey. Pippa recently moved out of the apartment to live nearby in a house with her fiancée, James Matthews.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Kate was just like any other young woman finding her footing after college: she went out for drinks with friends at London hotspots like Boujis, Mahiki, and Bunga Bunga; danced the night away at clubs, parties, and festivals; and attended high-profile events like book signings, charity events, and Wimbledon (she's still a fixture in the stands to this day). Kate would lunch at the Bluebird cafe around the corner from her Chelsea flat, shop at Marks & Spencer and Waitrose supermarkets, and ride her bike around town for exercise.

Standing by Her Man

Keep in mind that throughout this whole time, Kate was still dating Prince William - and had become something of a paparazzi darling since leaving the safe haven of their college campus. On her 25th birthday, Kate opened the front door of her flat to find over 30 photographers and local TV crews as she walked to her car. William wasn't happy about this, and Clarence House released a statement saying, "Prince William wants more than anything for the paparazzi to stop harassing her." It's a move that his younger brother Prince Harry recently took when it came to the harassment of his own girlfriend, actress Meghan Markle, and her family.

Despite the constant public attention, Kate dutifully attended William's polo matches and was by his side at the wedding of Camilla's daughter, Laura Parker Bowles, as well as the Princess Diana Memorial Concert that he and Harry threw in 2007. That year, the royal couple hit a rough patch and decided to part ways; they reunited in the Summer of 2010, and during a vacation in Kenya in October 2010, Prince William put a (very special) ring on it.

Ellen DeGeneres and Demi Lovato Say "F*ck," "Sh*t," and "B*tch" on Daytime TV

Demi Lovato stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show for an NSFW appearance on Wednesday. While most episodes of Ellen's show spread joy and laughter through giving back and celebrities being adorable, this particular show made us happy for a whole new reason: swearing. During a game of "5 Second Rule," the two tried to answer slightly scandalous questions in a time crunch. After talking about showing "boobies" in a broken elevator, Ellen goes on to reveal her three favorite swear words. Demi then tries to add additional ones, including almost saying the "C" word. Press play if you need a good f*cking laugh.

The Walking Dead: 4 Things We'd Like to See in Season 8

Let's face it: season seven of The Walking Dead was a chore to get through. Sure, it has its moments, like when Shiva comes to Carl's aid, but for the most part, things are slow. After a heart-pumping first episode that sees Negan killing off Abraham and Glenn, the rest of the season lags as Rick and company contemplate how to retaliate. Now that the season has ended and the war against the Saviors has finally begun, here's what I'd like to see in season eight.

1. A Fast-Paced Plot

Just because it's a zombie show doesn't mean the plot should move at a zombie's pace. While we are introduced to interesting new communities such as Oceanside and the Kingdom in season seven, too much focus on random character development made episodes feel longer than they actually are. Less Negan showing Carl around the Sanctuary and more badass zombie-whacking, please.

2. Ease Up on the Melancholia

I get it. They're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and things are dire. However, that doesn't mean we have to be reminded of it all of the time. Sometimes, it's nice to take a break from the madness and revel in sweet moments like Rick's fantasized dinner with the gang in the first episode.

3. More Rick and Michonne

We're so excited that Rick and Michonne are together, but we've only gotten to see their relationship in small doses. As episode 12 proves, they make a great team and their chemistry is off the charts. With the apocalyptic drama starting to get stale, what better way to spice things up?

4. Negan Should Get What He Deserves

He might be responsible for some of the best one-liners on the show, but the scarf-wearing baddie has overstayed his welcome. He's supposed to play a big part in season eight, so maybe he'll be exciting to watch again, but it's definitely time for him to meet his maker. (Or at least go away for a while.)

Given what we know so far about season eight, it looks like some of these suggestions might be on the agenda. However, it will be a long six months before we find out.

Watch 63 Music Videos So Hot They'll Have You Cranking the AC

Remember watching MTV on a chunky TV in your parents' basement, gawking at Britney Spears's sweaty orgy in "I'm a Slave 4 U"? Those were the good old days, eh?

It's interesting to recall the music videos that have made a strong (and salacious) statement over the years. Of course, there was Madonna breaking all the rules in the '80s. The '90s saw no shortage of slow, sexy R&B scenes. The '00s were teeming with pop stars eager to show some skin. And the '10s are zeroing in on very specific body parts (Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda," Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea's "Booty"). No matter the era, sensual videos have long been a celebrated aspect of music - here are 63 of our favorites. Enjoy yourself at own risk - some of these are NSFW.

20 of Eva Longoria's Best Bikini Moments Through the Years

Eva Longoria's body is steamy, fit, and always on display. The former Telenovela star loves to hit the beach, take vacations in seaside locations (including her honeymoon with husband José Antonio Bastón) where she can lounge on a yacht, and go for swims in the pool - so we've been lucky enough to get several glimpses at her toned physique in tiny bikinis through the years. Our conclusion: Eva's body gets stronger and hotter . . . and her swimsuits get skimpier. Keep reading to see what we mean, and then check out photos from her beautiful wedding.

23 Ways to Wake Up Happier Every Morning

If you're not a morning person, waking up is a pure struggle that consists of the snooze button and a strong cup of coffee. For most of us, this daily routine gets us out the door, but it doesn't necessarily make us any more excited to start the day.

An easy way to change this somber outlook, however, is by altering your actions. Because why shouldn't you wake up in a good mood? We rounded up several ways to help you get that #MotivationMonday going every day.

1. Eat breakfast: A good breakfast fuels the soul but rarely do we indulge in big breakfasts for the sake of time (and sleep). However, carving out even just 15 minutes to eat a healthy breakfast can make you instantly feel more awake and energetic. Everyone knows a happy stomach equals a happier you.

2. Stretch your muscles as soon as you wake up: This gets the blood flowing throughout your body and you can even do the stretches under your covers. Once those endorphins are released, you'll feel less stressed and view your day with a more positive attitude.

3. Don't watch TV: If you're easily upset over bad news, skip the morning programs. You can always record the show to watch later at night.

4. Play music: Whip up a feel-good playlist of all your favorite songs and press play as soon as you wake up to go about your daily routine.

5. Prepare for the next morning the night before: When you're rushing to find your keys, wallet, cell phone, and work notes before you head to work, it will make you feel flustered and agitated. If you take 10 minutes to prepare everything the night before, however, you'll wake up with fewer worries.

6. Play with your pet: An instant mood booster? Your furry best friend!

7. Clean your room at night: Waking up to a clean room is one of the best feelings in the world and you don't have to worry about checking that off your to-do list.

8. Add some fresh flowers to your nightstand: Scientific studies have shown flowers will make a person happier, so keep some pretty arrangements where you can see them first thing in the morning.

9. Don't hit snooze: Whatever you do, do not hit your snooze button! Science explains why, but basically you'll wake up feeling groggier and more tired than if you had just woken up.

10. Keep the curtains or shades half closed: Come Fall and Winter, any sunlight you can get during the day is a plus. It's a no-brainer that we feel our moods change with the weather and soaking up some rays is the easiest way to make you feel happier.

11. Go to bed an hour early: You probably won't fall asleep right away, but letting your body know it's time to wind down for the night will make you feel much more well-rested come morning. You might even find yourself waking up earlier and feeling more productive (like having time to eat breakfast)!

12. Skip social media: We're all guilty of reaching for our phones first thing in the morning to check emails, Facebook, or Instagram, but not grabbing your phone in the mornings can be a cathartic experience. FOMO no more.

13. Wake up next to your significant other: While your SO might make you want to stay in bed forever and skip work altogether, waking up to your loved one is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

14. Sleep on your back: Research shows this is the best sleeping position, so if you find yourself tossing and turning at night, try this position for an optimal good night's rest.

15. Wake up 30 minutes earlier: Despite what you may think, the benefits of waking up earlier will have a huge effect on how the rest of your day goes.

16. Take a shower: There's nothing a good shower can't fix, especially with your favorite bath scents and oils.

17. Wear sunglasses before you leave the house: The sun makes you squint or frown, which can foster aggressive feelings and bring down your mood. So, wear your shades!

18. Drink coffee: Coffee plus sun equals instant feel-good vibes, so drink near a window or walk on the sunnier side of the street. Don't forget to wear sunglasses.

19. Read a motivational quote: Whether you look to Disney or these amazing women, an inspirational quote can help kick-start your day.

20. Sleep naked: Sleeping naked has a whole host of benefits, but basically you'll wake up feeling sexier and more rested, and you'll lose that belly fat.

21. Don't eat dinner right before bed: You'll avoid that bloated feeling that keeps you up all night and get better sleep. More sleep equals happier you.

22. Set your alarm to a fun tune: Change up your alarm tone because life's a lot better if you're waking up to a song by Beyoncé.

23. Treat yourself every so often: Don't be afraid to go for it with a sugary treat or drink some mornings! You'll wake with something to look forward to.

Here's How to Turn Siri Off on Your Lock Screen

Siri is definitely useful but has also proven to be slightly dangerous. Allowing Siri access on a locked iPhone could leave you vulnerable to people hacking your phone or seeing personal identifying information. If you're concerned about your phone making it into the wrong hands, turn off this feature in a few simple steps.

To remove Siri's access while your iPhone is locked, go to Settings > Siri and swipe left on the "Access When Locked" option. This doesn't turn off Siri completely; only when your iPhone is locked.

You can also turn this setting off by going to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode and scrolling down to see what is accessible on your locked iPhone.

While this doesn't totally guarantee your phone is safe from hackers, it's another step to protecting your information and data.

Jared Leto Talks Tattoos, Smelling Musky, and His Minimalist Hair Care

Any child of the '90s likely had a crush on Jared Leto (ahem, Mr. Jordan Catalano) and probably still does (I do!). Thankfully Jared is still acting and performing with his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. And can we talk about the internet's obsessed with his ever-changing hair?!

The renaissance man is also the face of Gucci fragrances, and the campaigns are pretty steamy (see exclusive behind-the-scenes images here!). This Spring, he is fronting the campaign for Gucci Guilty Absolute (an earthy-woody scent). In the ads, photographer Glen Luchford shot Jared starring at his handsome reflection in the mirror. Since that was not enough Jared for us, we also got to interview him via email about his grooming and scent routine . . .

POPSUGAR: What does Jared Leto smell like in three descriptive words?
Jared Leto: I think I like heavier, muskier smells in general. I don't love flowery, powdery smells. I love kind of darker, stronger smells.

PS: What is your favorite scent memory?
JL: I've always had a strong sense of smell and I think smells for me, I remember when I was a kid, that the smell of a fireplace. This is gas, but the smell of a fireplace is always really powerful to me. A campfire, a fireplace, it always brings back memories.

PS: We are obsessed with your hair texture. How do you take care of it?

JL: I take a shower and shampoo and that's it.

PS: What is your guilty pleasure?
JL: Maybe I have a guilty indulgence with art and creativity because as an artist you can be indulgent, and it's important to be, in a way. To spend time thinking about your own creative desires.

PS: What is your skin care routine?
JL: I don't do any beauty routine, in my own personal life. I try to eat as good as I can, and I try to sleep. But for films, I would do whatever it takes. I made a movie in Budapest, Bladerunner, and it was a lot of makeup and big transformation. [For] another movie in Japan I had tattoos everywhere - all over my body, my whole body - it was crazy. Eight hours in makeup.
