The 10 Best Bottles For Breastfed Babies

Breastfed babies don't only take their milk from the breast. While lactation consultants suggest waiting at least three weeks before introducing a bottle, breastfeeding mamas often abide by their own schedules. Finding a bottle that truly mimics the motion, flow, and feeling of the breast is often the hardest part of making the switch. We've put countless bottles to the test, and narrowed our list down to nine.

Check out our picks for the most breast-like bottles on the market, and let us know which one you (or your children) prefer.

Dad Proves That His Love For His Kids Is More Important Than Any Issues With His Ex-Wife

On his ex-wife's birthday, Billy Flynn woke up early to buy flowers, cards, and gifts for his boys to give their mom. He then helped his two kids make her breakfast and surprise her with the treats.

Despite his kind actions, though, this dad still receives criticism on a regular basis, so he's explaining his actions to those who don't understand why he does nice things for his ex. "I'm raising two little men. The example I set for how I treat their mom is going to significantly shape how they see and treat women and affect their perception of relationships," Billy shared on Love What Matters Facebook page. "I think even more so in my case because we are divorced. So if you aren't modeling good relationship behavior for your kids, get your sh*t together. Rise above it and be an example. This is bigger than you."

This isn't the first time someone was confused by Billy being on good terms with his ex, so this dedicated dad realizes that he is setting the example both for his children and other adults. "Raise good men. Raise strong women," he wrote. "Please. The world needs them, now more than ever."

8 Savvy Ways to Update Your Wardrobe Without Spending Tons of Money

The following post was originally featured on Nany's Klozet and written by Daniela Ramirez, who is part of POPSUGAR Select Latina.

The best way to start the new year is with a "new" closet. When you clean your closet, you also get rid of old (and bad) energy, and you will feel a big difference. Having an organized closet will help you find your favorite pieces quicker and make getting dressed each morning easier.

Do a Closet Clean-Out

Start by going through everything in your closet and get ready to have five piles: keep, fix, donate, throw away, and sell.

What should you keep?

Ask yourself, have I worn this in the past year? If the answer is no, you are probably not going to wear it ever again. Here's a fun trick to know if you have worn something in the past year: put your hangers backwards every time you do a clean-out. When you wear something, put it back as it should be hung normally. At the end of the year, you can clearly see what you haven't worn in a while.

Then think, why haven't I worn it? Is it damaged? Does it not fit anymore?

If it has a little hole or anything that can be fixable, put it in the fix pile. If not, throw it away. If the items are in good condition but have no significant value, donate them. If you think you can get a little money, sell them!

Forget about sentimental value (unless it's a piece of jewelry your grandmother gave you, of course). This includes that old prom dress you know you are never going to wear again or that cute dress you wore to your first date 10 years ago. Getting rid of them won't delete that amazing memory.

Remember to do a clean-out with your beauty bag, too - makeup has an expiration date, and anything older than a year should be thrown out. Wearing expired makeup can cause breakouts and allergic reactions.

Host a Wardrobe Exchange

Let's say you organized your closet and you realized you have a ton of clothes in mint condition that you never wear. What should you do? Host a wardrobe exchange with your friends.

How?

  • Invite a group of close friends and encourage them to invite people as well. You want to keep the group relatively small, but it's a great way to meet and bond with friends.
  • Tell them to bring X amount of items. Just be clear about the fact that the pieces must be in perfect condition - clean, no holes, or stains. I recommend bringing a minimum of five pieces.
  • Make it fun with appetizers and champagne.
  • As soon as the people start arriving, group items by type - dresses, shirts, accessories, etc..
  • If you came in with five pieces, you can take five pieces home with you.

The more pieces they bring, the more variety! It's the perfect way to have "new" clothes without spending a dime!

Raid Your Mom's, Sister's, or Aunt's Closet

If you still live with your family, this is easier. However, you can even ask your crazy aunt if you can check out her clothes from the '80s and '90s - I'm sure you can find some amazing things hidden in the bottom of her closet. I did this once with my aunt and she was super excited to see me wearing something from 20 years ago. Also, think outside the box: it doesn't have to be a woman's closet, dare to borrow your dad's shirt or even your boyfriend's jeans.

Find a Tailor You Trust

If you have jeans you used to love but you truly kept that New Year's Resolution to lose weight, and they are too big now; if you want to transform a midi sequin dress into a mini dress, a tailor is your BFF.

Find someone in your city that you trust for all the wardrobe basics, including hemming your pants and making that sexy dress fit like a glove. Then you can ask him/her for a discount when you bring that big ole fix pile. They can transform that dress with the cute print but unflattering neckline.

Shop at Vintage/Thrift Stores

A lot of people underestimate the power of buying in thrift shops or vintage stores. First of all, everything comes back in style. Second, I love thinking that the pieces have a story, that they were carried around when the world was a different place. (Well, that might be just me. I'm a little crazy!) Third, there's a big chance nobody else will own it - vintage pieces are very unique.

I've found amazing items on vintage stores. I found a pair of D&G shoes for $20, a small vintage Coach bag for $15, and silk blouses for $5.

A couple of tips:

  • Wash everything as soon as you get home (no bedbugs, please!).
  • Go with comfy shoes, because finding those hidden gems isn't that easy. You really have to go through piles and piles of clothes, but it is worth it.

DIY

This is the best way to update your current pieces. I often see clothes on the runway that I think might be fun to DIY. And the best part? Saying you did it yourself when people ask you, where did you get that?

Sell, Sell, Sell

Why not make a little profit from cleaning out your closet? If you have pieces in perfect condition that are valuable, put them up for sale.

Some options:

  • Local consignment stores: I personally don't like this option, but if you want to get rid of a lot of things quick, this is a good way to do it. They are going to offer you very little money and they are very picky. I went to one called "Plato's Closet," and they rejected more than half of the things I brought and only offered me $50 for a lot of things
  • eBay
  • Poshmark: This is my favorite app to sell clothes. It is very easy to use and you can make great money from it. Sign up using the code "HPFVV," and you will get $10 to shop.

Every month I challenge myself, and I try to sell more. The goal: only spend what I have sold.

When Going Shopping, Think "CPU" - Cost Per Use

Last resort . . . go shopping. You deserve it after cleaning, selling, swapping, and raiding.

Never go shopping without knowing what you are looking for, this leads to impulse buying (and most impulse buys end up with their tags on at the end of the closet).

Along the way, maybe you realized you needed a white blouse or a leopard scarf. So write them down. Make a list of the things you really need, and the ones you really want. We all deserve a little treat now and then.

No matter what you buy, always think CPU (cost per use): the cost of the item divided by the amount of times you will use it.

For example, let's say you find a classic LBD at Forever 21 for $30, and you only wear it twice because the fabric lost its stretch when you washed it. The CPU of the affordable dress is $15.

An even better option would be:

You save up a little more and buy an identical classic LBD for $150 that will last 5 years. Let's say you wear it five times per year (and that's nothing because you can even wear an LBD with a denim jacket for a BBQ). The CPU of this dress is $6.

Also, I have a rule that I never buy anything unless I can think of three ways I can wear it. It's all about versatile pieces you can have fun with.

Breaking Down Melania Trump's Official Portrait Outfit, Sparkly Neck Tie and All

There are many style differences between Melania Trump and former First Lady Michelle Obama, but Melania makes that no more clear than in her her first official portrait, which was just released by the White House along with the following statement: "I am honored to serve in the role of First Lady, and look forward to working on behalf of the American people over the coming years."

While some Twitter commenters are calling out her 13-carat engagement ring, we are more focused on the detailing of her Dolce & Gabbana blazer. Melania nixed classic jewelry - Michelle Obama famously wore strands of pearls for both her portraits - for an embellished neck tie covered in sequins. The style update is notable and frankly pretty unmissable though Melania's outfit is black. (No one ignored the sleeveless silhouette of Michelle's LBD in 2009 either.)

Despite past scrutiny about first lady fashion choices, many people are noting that Nancy Reagan wore a pussy bow blouse in her signature red in 1981, a silhouette that Melania seems to favor that can even be considered modest. At the end of the day, Melania's neckerchief offers a glittering wink to remind us of her ties to the fashion industry. After all, it's certainly garnering plenty of comments (both positive and negative) on Stefano Gabbana's Instagram tribute, thanking Melania for choosing one of his looks.

All the Women Tom Hiddleston May or May Not Have Dated

Image Source: Getty / Justin Tallis

Tom Hiddleston caused quite the fan-frenzy when he dated Taylor Swift, and rightfully so. Not only is the British actor quite the heartthrob, but his relationship with the singer marked one of the first times he had ever gone public with a relationship. Actually, his only other confirmed girlfriend was his Wallander costar Susannah Fielding (pictured below). The two dated for a few years but eventually broke up in 2011, when Tom reportedly decided to focus on his career. Following their split, he explained to The Daily Mail, "Acting just demands everything and if you don't give it everything, there will be someone behind you who will."

He may have kept pretty mum about his love life in the past, but that hasn't stopped the dating rumors from swirling. Over the past few years, the actor has been linked to some very successful ladies, including Sherlock actress Lara Pulver in July 2013 and record producer Jane Arthy at the Wimbledon finals that same month. Even though he was spotted getting cozy with the two women, he was never photographed with them again. He has also been attached to quite a few of his leading ladies; not only did he hold hands with his Thor costar Kat Dennings at Comic-Con in 2010, but he also had undeniable chemistry with Elizabeth Olsen during their press tour for I Saw the Light in 2015. However, Elizabeth quickly shut down the gossip mill by bluntly telling Refinery 29 that they were definitely not dating.

Tom once said in a GQ interview that he'd tell people if he was actually dating anyone, and this certainly proved true with Taylor. Not only did he practically wear his heart on his sleeve during their picture-perfect outings together, but he even shut down conspiracy rumors by stating that they were "not a publicity stunt" back in July. Now that the two have ended their three-month relationship, it looks like Taylor can add her name to Tom's short list of ex-lovers.

12 Things You Should Know Before Traveling Across the Country on Amtrak

I have always fantasized about traveling across the country by train, so when my boyfriend suggested that we take Amtrak from San Francisco to New York City, I was all in. There have been many conversations around the web about what it's really like to take Amtrak for long trips, so I want to give you the most accurate and true depiction.

We decided to get a roomette for the first and longest leg of our travel on the California Zephyr. We had the small room from Emeryville (the Amtrak station right outside of San Francisco) to Chicago for two days and two nights. After a seven-hour stop in Chicago, we rode the remaining 17 hours of our journey to NYC in coach seats. In total, our tickets for two people came out to $772. Not bad considering we were traveling for three and a half days and our meals were included with the roomette.

To get all the details on what it's like to sleep, eat, and basically live in an Amtrak train while chugging across America, keep reading. There are lots of interesting details that will take you by surprise.

Try Solving This Math Puzzle That Is Making People Go Crazy on Facebook

Ever wanted to tear your hair out and question everything you've ever learned about math? Well, thanks to the website Brain Dare, you can. The company recently posted a math puzzle to its Facebook page that's made the internet divide into two categories based on answers.

Take a look at the puzzle below and determine your own answer.

Did you get 40? Or 96? Though Brain Dare states that 96 is the correct answer, other users are claiming that both can be correct. Brain Dare figured out its answer with multiplication. To begin, you multiply the first number by the second number. For example, 1 x 4 = 4. Then, add that result to the first number and you'll arrive at the answer after the equal sign; for the first line it's 5.

But some people arrived at the answer 40 sans multiplication. Instead, they just added the answer of the first line (5) to the next one. So, 5 + 2 = 7. Add the 5 in the previous answer and you'll get to the answer 12. If you follow it all the way through, you'll arrive at 40.

People in the comments are arguing about which answer is actually right. Some just want Brain Dare to acknowledge that math puzzles such as these can have two answers. The puzzle is clearly extremely popular, considering the post has more than 2,000 reactions, 7,000 comments, and 2,000 shares. At the POPSUGAR offices, we're also torn and finding these two answers as well.

9 Things You Never Knew About Your Child's Day at School, Straight From a Teacher

While parents understand that a lot happens in between dropping their child off at school and seeing them at the end of the day, many don't recognize exactly what it's like. Along with the books, tests, and classroom assignments, your child's world is revolving around actively turning into a little person within his or her classroom community. In order for parents to better relate to their children and understand their daily experiences, one anonymous teacher shared nine things about a typical school day that most parents don't realize - but should.

They turn into your mini me - for better or for worse.

Why your child acts or speaks a certain way usually all makes sense to teachers come parent-teacher conferences. But your mannerisms and expressions aren't the only things your little one brings to the classroom; they also share your team spirit, work ethic, and drive - or lack thereof. Your problems also have a way of creeping into your child's day and teachers as well as their friends definitely pick up on it. The impact of a fight you had that your little one overheard or a chaotic morning can be observed in your child even after you've forgotten about it.

Recess means something different for every child.

Most kids love recess, but it can be for two very different reasons. While this time is an opportunity to go outside and run around with friends, some embrace it as a chance to spend time with their teacher in a more personal setting. Sometimes recess is when your child is thriving on the court or making new friends, but it can also be when they are developing confidence and feeling secure in the classroom setting thanks to some extra time inside instead of out.

Just because they do it at home doesn't mean they can do it at school.

Oftentimes parents are frustrated with tests that are marked incorrect because they know their child can do it - they even saw them answering those questions correctly at home! However, this can be a warped sense of reality and parents need to understand what they see at home isn't what happens at school because of their involvement. Parents who hover too much during homework time or "help" with assignments are actually hurting their child's growth because when they have to do the same work at school (and independently), they don't know how. These kids don't know how to correctly answer questions in school even though they got them right at home because they don't know how to complete all of the steps with out some extra help from you. Your involvement outside of school can hurt them in the classroom and leave them struggling even more.

Every child has a role within the classroom community.

Your kids are essentially dealing the same politics that parents experience in the adult world. As kids interact within their classroom community, roles are unconsciously given and both kids and teachers work within these labels. Children know who the kind kid is if they're having a bad day, the troublemaker, and the good student, and they naturally embrace their own roles while finding where they fit. Where their spot is on the carpet is also a good indicator of their role - teachers often place the kids they can depend on to pay attention in the back or a shy child next to another who has a reputation for always being friendly. This gives students an equal opportunity to learn within those roles.

Hurt feelings aren't always a bad thing.

School isn't just about reading and writing; it's also about learning social skills that are equally important. During their time in the classroom, children are learning how to become people. Kids can be mean - oftentimes because they don't realize - but when your child's feelings get hurt during the day, it's an invaluable opportunity for them to learn how to react in an appropriate way and recover from the upset.

They blossom when you drop them.

Just because your child seems shy or clingy around you doesn't mean that's how they still are moments after you leave. Some children really do transform into completely different people when they aren't guided by you and it's important for parents to never assume that their child takes on the same role at school as they do at home.

There's way more joy than you realize.

Despite the dread of homework and agony of tests, school can be a bright area for your child. Kids still laugh and play throughout the day and within that, they are learning how to communicate, be good citizens, and work within a community. They might come home upset about the amount of work or a mean kid, but that doesn't mean that there weren't smiles and laughter during the day.

You're probably thinking about them way more than they're thinking about you.

Separation can be hard for some students, but despite the drop-off meltdowns, kids quickly forget the upset after their tears have dried. While many parents spend all morning thinking about how upset their child was and worrying about how he or she is doing, most kids quickly recover and don't realize how much they missed you until you are united again. Even if your child was hysterical when you said goodbye, chances are you weren't the focus of the rest of their day.

Their teacher has their best interests at heart - even if he or she is teaching them Common Core.

Most teachers are just as dedicated to your child's development as you are. Even if it seems like what your child is doing is a waste of time, you have to trust that your child is going to gain something from it, even if it wasn't what or how you learned. If your child comes home with what seems like a ridiculous assignment, often it's because his or her teacher doesn't have a choice in the matter and is embracing it to make the most of the learning opportunity for your kid.

This Math Problem Will Make You Question Everything You Ever Knew About Algebra

Math isn't everyone's best skill - and even those who are good at it are questioning everything after trying this algebra problem.

The question originally went viral in Japan, after a study discovered that only 60 percent of 20-somethings could actually solve it. Are you already feeling frustrated and hopeless at trying to know what the answer is? Watch the video below, posted by YouTube user MindYourDecisions, a popular math puzzle channel. In it, Presh Talwalkar, the mastermind behind this question, will guide you to the right answer.

As you can see, not even a calculator can help you, as it will read the problem wrong and arrive at the answer of 9. To solve it correctly in a calculator, you need to write it out like this: 9-3/(1/3) + 1, which will lead you to 1 as the correct answer. The problem tests your knowledge of PEMDAS, the order of operations formula, which says you must get to the answer by following these steps in this order: parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. In this question, that means dividing 3 by the 1/3 first, which is the same as 3x3. That will then lead you to 9-9+1. From there, 9-9=0 + 1 = 1. Ta-da!

If you arrived at 3, 7, or 9 as your answer, you're not alone. Most people have forgotten how to use PEMDAS or interpret the fraction of 1/3 the wrong way. Still not feeling much of a challenge? Try this other math question that not even parents could solve.

6 Ways to Protect Your Internet Data - Now That Companies Can Sell It

It's official: internet service providers (ISP) can now sell any data collected from what you do on the internet, like your browsing history. On April 3, President Donald Trump signed a new bill that overturns former President Barack Obama's internet privacy rules, but there are some simple ways consumers can try to protect themselves.

Under Obama, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) came up with new regulations, requiring ISPs to ask consumers if they could sell their data. It was supposed to go into effect this December. Instead, a bill overturning this regulation passed both the House and Senate and was signed by President Trump.

This means that no matter who you are and what you do, your browsing history and anything you do on the internet can be sold by ISPs (such as Comcast and Verizon). While some ISPs have promised to offer an opt-out option, chances are they'll do it in a way that's so subtle you might miss it. So, if you're serious about protecting your data, here are six things you can do right now.

  1. Visit websites that only use HTTPs: An HTTPs connection ensures that everything you're seeing and doing on the internet is encrypted. It also means your ISP can only know the domain you're on. For example, if you visit Facebook, your ISP will only know you're on Facebook.com and not what profile, page, or group you're seeing. So the next time you're visiting a website, look at the URL and check to see if it says HTTP or HTTPS. If it's HTTP, you might want to consider never visiting the site again.
  2. Download Chrome extensions or other tools to protect yourself: With Micro Snitch, a Mac app, you'll see whether any other app is using your Mac's microphone or camera. Snoopie is a Chrome extension that alerts you if a website uses a "popular tracking service."
  3. Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN): A VPN works similarly to a HTTPS connection; it encrypts everything you visit online and doesn't let anyone or any company track it back to your IP address. However, it's not guaranteed that a VPN service won't actually keep your data. If you're concerned and want to get into specifics, That One Privacy Site has a massive list of VPNs with information such as whether they log traffic, IP addresses, and more. If you want to know what to look for in a VPN, Lifehacker has some key details to look out for.
  4. Download Tor: Tor is another web browser that's open source and hides your IP address. However, it does tend to run slower and has had its own issues with spying on users.
  5. Invest in a password manager: If you're the type to use the same password for everything or write down all your passwords on your computer, please stop. Instead, get a password manager app like 1Password or LastPass. 1Password offers a monthly plan of $3 or a family plan for $5. LastPass has a free option, but you're better off getting the yearly plan for $12. A password manager won't protect your data from ISPs, but it will protect you if hackers steal information your ISP collects.
  6. Set up two-factor authentication (2FA): Don't let hackers get into your accounts so easily with 2FA. With 2FA, anytime you download an app to your phone or sign into your email on a new computer, you'll enter your password and usually a code that's sent to you via text or email. You can check to see what apps and services offer 2FA here.

If all of this sounds too complicated, the least you can do is visit websites that use HTTPs, use a password manager, and set up two-factor authentication. And of course, keep calling your representatives to protect your data and privacy.

7 Questions That Will Knock the Socks Off Your Interviewer

"Do you have any questions for me?" is the inevitable question you'll hear at the end of any interview. You should always ask the interviewer questions at that point to show that you are truly interested in the job. Asking the right questions can impress the interviewer - it can make you look thoughtful and enthusiastic. And don't forget that interviewing is also a two-way street: it's your chance to find out if the company is the right fit for you.

1. Can You Tell Me About Your Experience at the Company?

This is a great question, as people love talking about themselves, which will make your hiring manager think more positively of your conversation. In fact, brain scans actually show that talking about yourself activate the parts of the brain related to the pleasure you get from things like food and sex. In short, giving your interviewer a chance to talk about themselves will make them happy. At the same time, her answer will clue you into what it's like to work at the company and how your career progression may look at the firm. Other variations of this question include, "What do you like most about working here?" or "What has kept you at the company for so long?

2. Why Is This Position Available?

Perhaps this position has been newly created or the person who had the job left for another company or another position within the same firm. This will help you figure out your expectations for the job. If the employee who held this position moved onto another position in the same firm, this shows that mobility and growth is possible within the company. If the person left, it could be that the position didn't offer the growth she was looking for or she got a better offer elsewhere.

If the position has just been created, you may be hitting the ground running once you start. This means you may have less guidance with this role, as it could be a position the company is unfamiliar with.

3. What Are Some Challenges the Team Is Facing, and How Do You Hope the New Hire Will Help in Those Obstacles?

This question shows that you're serious about doing what it takes to succeed if you get hired, and the interviewer's answer will help you get a better idea of what to expect at this role. This will also help give you a sense of current situation of the team and the company to see if your skills and experience match what they are looking for.

4. Other Than Learning the Ropes, What Should Be My Top Focus For the First Few Months?

With this question, you're not just asking the interviewer what they are looking for in a candidate - that's obvious from the job listing. You are getting to the specifics and finding out what they are hoping the new hire will accomplish at the start of the job. This shows your enthusiasm for doing a good job, and the answer will help you figure out if the company is a right fit for you.

If you get an offer and decide to take it, the interviewer's response will also help you come up with a game plan for the first few months that will impress your new employer.

5. How Would You Describe the Company Culture?

This is a good question because it not only shows your interest in fitting in, but you can also figure out if you'll be happy in the working environment.

6. From What I've Read, You Are Working on a New Venture X or Putting More Focus on Y. [Insert Specific Question About X or Y.]

This shows that you're paying attention and are interested in getting started. You will also learn more about the company and figure out if the direction that it's taking is in line with what you are looking for. And if you can't find information about the company, you should ask questions about projects it's are working on and goals it hopes to achieve this year.

7. [Insert Your Own Unique Question.]

Don't just repeat the questions you find on this list or others you find online. Come up with your own question based off the answers from your interviewer. This shows that you are paying attention and quick on picking up details - both great traits for an employee. Coming up with questions that are tailored to your conversation with the interviewer requires a lot of active listening, which you should be doing throughout the interview.

And finally, don't forget to ask your interviewer what the next steps are, or you may be left hanging. Of course, if your interviewer doesn't give you a clear answer, you may be able to get more details after you send your thank-you email.

People Are a Bit Puzzled by the FBI's Tweet Honoring MLK

The FBI and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were not, by any understanding of the word, friendly. So when the agency decided to commemorate King's assassination, which happened 49 years ago on April 4, by posting one of the activist's quotes on Twitter, people reacted accordingly: puzzled and prepared with clapbacks.

Social media users reminded the FBI that the bureau relentlessly spied on King, dedicated sparing resources to discrediting him, and even went so far as to encourage him toward suicide. Perhaps most egregiously, the FBI was also accused of being complicit in King's murder, and a jury agreed in a 1999 civil suit brought by Dr. King's family to recognize the existence of a conspiracy to murder the civil rights icon.

A few highlights of the best FBI burns are below.

Hilariously, one Twitter user even pointed out that the quote attributed to Dr. King by the FBI was not even originally spoken him.

Why This Innocent Photo of a Boy and Girl Playing Together Is Going Viral

A picture is worth a thousand words, but even after looking at this innocent photo of a boy leaning his head on a girl as he watches her play, it's impossible to know what makes it such a profoundly moving moment.

After posting the image to Facebook, LaSasha McGee - mother to the girl in the snapshot - explained what was really going on in her caption:

This is Markai and William. William is autistic and for some special reason he is drawn to her and she just loves him to pieces. They met in school and come to find out today we live in the same area. I am in love with this photo I captured today. It shows so much in just one frame. How they don't see color. How she doesn't judge him. How she doesn't go by what "society" says is normal and treats him as she would anyone else.

In this world that we are living in today I think this is what LOVE really should be about. Not about what others say. This brought tears to my eyes just to see how comfortable he is to rest his head on her shoulder and not have a care in the world as she was teaching him ABCS on her tablet. Just take a look at LOVE.

The image has 82,000 reactions and has been shared more than 10,000 times - proof, not just that the innocence of children is a beautiful thing, but that the world is in desperate need of more Markais and more Williams.

Why Panera Put Peanut Butter on a Grilled Cheese Sandwich For a Child With Severe Allergies

One family is suing Panera Bread claiming that despite multiple warnings about their daughter's allergy, the little girl was given a meal that could have killed her.

The Boston family claims that their highly allergic 6-year-old daughter was served a grilled cheese sandwich complete with two scoops of peanut butter. In the lawsuit, her parents, John and Elissa Russo, state that their daughter was hospitalized overnight after biting into the sandwich.

According to her mom, the sandwich was ordered online, in which she specifically referenced her daughter's peanut allergy twice within the form. By the time anyone realized the extra ingredient had been added to the sandwich, the child had already bitten into it. They family says that she began to vomit and broke out in hives later that evening.

"Is this somebody doing this on purpose?" John later asked a manager. "Because it's two freakin' tablespoons of peanut butter on this sandwich, and it's a grilled cheese."

The manager reportedly apologized to him but blamed the mistake on a "language" issue. However, this explanation that an employee with limited English could have seen the note about "peanut" as a request to add it to the grilled cheese rather than to keep it away from the meal is "no excuse" to John. It didn't seem reasonable to the father because he looked up "allergy" in Spanish and Portuguese – the language the workers in question spoke – and realized how similar the translation (alergia) is to the English version.

"Panera takes the issue of food allergens, including the reported incident at our franchise bakery-cafe, very seriously," a spokesman said in an email to the Huffington Post. "We have procedures in place across the company to minimize exposure and risk for our guests and associates. We do not comment on pending litigation."

According to John, the family didn't plan to take legal actions until discovering that another child with peanut allergies was also served a grilled cheese with peanut butter after ordering the sandwich online less than a month after his daughter's episode. This child also went into an anaphylactic reaction and was hospitalized. While the two situations happened at different locations, the same franchise group owns both Paneras.

Pepsi Has Pulled Its Controversial Commercial With Kendall Jenner

Update: The Pepsi commercial is no longer available to watch on YouTube. According to The Daily Beast reporter Olivia Messer, Pepsi is pulling the ad. The company added, "We also apologize for putting Kendall Jenner in this position." Jennifer Maloney, a reporter at The Wall Street Journal, also confirmed that Pepsi is pulling the ad and tweeted out the company's full statement.

We've reached out to Pepsi for additional comment.

Original story: Sometimes, companies hit the right tone when it comes to making statements in commercials. Most of the time, however, the company ends up looking out of touch and leaves the internet shaking its head at it. The newest member to this group? Pepsi, along with Kendall Jenner, for a ridiculous, tone-deaf commercial.

The commercial starts off innocently enough with a protest taking over the streets, signs like "Join the Conversation" popping up. But as Kendall, clad in a blond wig and taking part in a photo shoot, notices the crowd, she realizes where she needs to be - the protest. Kendall wipes off her lipstick and joins the protest, grabbing a Pepsi can in the process. If you're not cringing yet, you will when Kendall walks up to a line of police officers and hands one a Pepsi can. The image is an allusion to when Ieshia Evans, who was standing peacefully in front of police officers at a protest in Baton Rouge, LA, was arrested.

The internet collectively lost it when Pepsi aired this commercial.

People also took the time to call out Kendall for participating.

Others couldn't help but make fun of the entire situation.

Some people wondered how Coca-Cola's day was going.

Mostly, the internet now officially hates Pepsi.

Make Your Own: Homemade Cleaning Wipes and Canister

When there's a mess, instead of reaching for expensive cleaning wipes, make your own for less than a dollar. With the help of vinegar and liquid dish soap, your counters will sparkle without the use of harsh chemicals. And you'll love how this easy DIY can be made over and over with the help of a repurposed coffee canister. Made from all-natural ingredients that power through any mess, adding a few sprinkles of your favorite essential oil personalizes these eco-friendly cleaning wipes.

What You'll Need:

  • One-pound coffee canister with plastic lid
  • Paper towel roll
  • Sharp knife
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol
  • 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
  • 10 drops essential oil (optional)
  • Spray paint (optional)
  • Needle
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. After picking up the ingredients for these homemade wipes, they cost just about nothing to make, which means you can have a can of wipes in every room of your home. Vinegar does an amazing job of cleaning up messes while naturally whisking away germs, preventing mold, and killing bacteria. And you can use your favorite dish soap or make your own.
  1. Repurposing an old coffee can for this DIY is a fun way to create a container that can be used over and over again. Either leave the can as is, or give it a quick coat of spray paint, inside and out, for a fun look and to keep the inside of the can from rusting.
  1. To create the cleaning wipes, cut the paper towels in half using a sharp serrated knife, and squish them into the painted can. And using eco-friendly paper towels makes this DIY even greener.
  1. Mix together the vinegar, dish soap, rubbing alcohol, and water in a small bowl. You can add several drops of essential oil to the wipes, which personalizes the cleaner and boosts its antibacterial powers.
  1. Slowly pour the liquid over the paper towels. Once they're saturated, carefully remove the cardboard center, and pull a paper towel from the middle.
  1. Press a craft needle through the center of the plastic lid several times, and then fit the scissors through to cut a circle from the center, around one half-inch in diameter.
  1. Now feed the paper towel through the hole in the plastic lid, and secure it to the painted coffee can. Not only are these wipes great at cleaning and disinfecting your home, but they also look seriously cute adorning countertops. Simply add a few drops of water to the canister as needed to keep wipes moist.

A Model Shut Down an Ignorant Remark About Her Dark Complexion and It Was Glorious

When 19-year-old aspiring model Mimi Mbah uploaded photos of herself on vacation in Cameroon, her pictures were shared by a Twitter page called @_AFRICANS_, which is "dedicated to all the beautiful Africans worldwide." After her photos went viral, Mimi noticed an ignorant comment about her dark skin underneath the post. "If she was lighter, she'd be fire," one Twitter user named Tosh wrote.

Fortunately, Tosh's ugly comment did not discourage the gorgeous model. Instead, she took a screenshot of it and kindly replied with a glorious clapback of her own. "No thanks, I wouldn't trade my skin color for the world!" Mimi tweeted. "Still [fire] tho."

Here's where we all stand up and give a round of applause for her epic comeback, which now has over 57,000 "likes" and 21,000 retweets at press time.

It's such a shame that in 2017, there are still people who believe that lighter skin complexions make someone more attractive. It's courageous models like Mimi Mbah who are changing the false narrative of what it truly means to be beautiful, and yes, that includes people with darker complexions.

Read on to see a few social media reactions to Mimi's powerful tweet ahead.

Prince William and Kate Middleton Do a Low-Key Dinner With Pippa's Future In-Laws

Prince William and Kate Middleton joined Pippa Middleton's fiancé, James Matthews, and her future in-laws, David Matthews and Jane Parker, for an intimate family dinner in London on Thursday night. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were photographed leaving the home that Pippa and James share in Chelsea; William kept things casual in jeans and a button-down shirt, while Kate wore a $128 (!) floral Alice Temperley dress, black heels, and simple ponytail. Also on hand for the low-key get-together was Kate and Pippa's brother, James, as well as James Matthews's brother, Spencer, who starred on the British reality show Made in Chelsea and is reportedly serving as best man in James and Pippa's wedding next month. According to an onlooker, the dinner lasted for a little over three hours and the group "all seemed very happy and relaxed." "William was smiling and chatting to Kate as they walked to their car. It looked like they had a good evening," the source added.

Before Pippa and James tie the knot - their ceremony on May 20 will be held at her family's local church in Berkshire - Will and Kate will be celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary at the end of April. While the couple will be in attendance for Pippa's big day, it has been reported that Kate will not act as maid of honor in an effort not to upstage the blushing bride. Instaead, she will likely do a reading at the ceremony, and her kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will also be involved: "Princess Charlotte is going to be one of the flower girls," a source told Us Weekly back in December. "They're planning for Prince George to be a page boy."
