The Breakthrough That Helped 1 Woman Lose the Last 15 Pounds

Sam was working out five to seven times a week, teaching class at her blossoming studio Cycle & Row in Michigan, and prepping to compete on Jillian Michaels's show Sweat Inc. Still, she couldn't shed the last 15 pounds she'd been holding on to. "You know your body better than everyone else, and I knew I was bigger than I needed to be. I was thicker than I needed to be," Sam recalled.

Samantha Before

Sam had little success with dieting in the past and decided not to go it alone this time. Instead, she linked up with Ricki Friedman, health coach and creator of Break the Weight, to determine what was holding her back. Since Sam was already incredibly active, her major lifestyle changes needed to happen in the kitchen. In a little over three months and without making a single change to her workout routine, she lost 15 pounds.

Samantha After

A self-described "good eater," Sam dealt with quantity and portion-control issues, often finding herself feeling stuffed after mealtime. "I really struggled with actually recognizing what and how much I was eating. I've learned that food really does excite me and make me happy more than I realized before. I am envious of the people who don't think about their next meal or care too much about what they will order at a new restaurant. Since I am one of these people with an emotional relationship with food, I learned that I have to be extra aware so I can make the right choices even in the hard moments."

"It is especially hard when you are used to being really fit, really active, and you are burning a lot of calories, and you feel like you can eat whatever you want, just like when you were 15 or 16," Sam said. "Our metabolisms are not what they used to be when we were younger." Sam began taking a short walk during and after meals. She started walking 10,000 steps a day (a staple in the BREAKER program) that was separate from working out. Samantha credits walking and says that it helps her have a clear head, which helps her make better choices.

Health coach Ricki determined the amount of calories Sam needed to eat to support her active lifestyle (around 1,600 each day), and Sam began journaling her food with MyFitnessPal to keep her choices in check. Here's what an average day of meals looks like for Sam:

Breakfast: She used to load up on a big breakfast of nonfat yogurt, oatmeal, nuts, and a banana, but later Sam realized that while all those foods are healthy, it's simply too much. Now, Sam only eats the oatmeal and a small portion of nuts, which keeps her full until lunch.

Lunch: Sam makes her own salad at a local grocery store most days that's 40 percent protein (either salmon or grilled tofu), 40 percent greens, and 20 percent carbs (usually quinoa or sweet potato). She usually dresses her greens in lemon juice and olive oil.

Dinner: If Sam is cooking at home, it's typically salmon or chicken plus a cooked green like brussels sprouts or sautéed spinach. When she doesn't have time to grocery shop, she always has whole-wheat or lentil pasta on hand, so she can whip up dinner quickly. If she's out to a nice dinner, Sam orders fish with double veggies instead of a starch. However, if she has been "good and controlled all day," she isn't "crazy picky about dinner."

In her new program, Sam didn't cut out entire food groups or say goodbye to her favorite treats forever. "If I go to a party and all they have is pizza, I have one piece instead of three," Sam explained. "I am a partier, and if there is a pizza party, I am not going to be the girl who says, 'No, I don't eat that.' I had to learn if I am going to have the pizza, how am I going to correct it in other areas?"

For Sam and so many other women who want to see a change in their shape, it is all about finding this balance with food. As much as we wish an extra workout session would make up for a ton of indulgent choices, the truth remains: even when you're working out like a badass, abs are made in the kitchen.

The Best Met Gala View Isn't on the Red Carpet - It's on Instagram

While the annual star-studded Met Gala offers attendees a platform to flaunt some pretty memorable looks, the same can be said about Instagram. Celebrities and stylists often take to Instagram to share stunning shots long before and after the event. What's more, this year is all about Comme des Garcons and its avant-garde visionary, Rei Kawakubo. So, what does that mean exactly? Expect the unexpected. Look ahead for behind-the-scenes shots from the 2017 Met Gala.

Fyre Festival Organizers Release an Official Apology: "We Weren't Ready"

Fyre Festival was billed as "a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience on the Islands of the Exumas." While attendees may agree that it's certainly a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience, it's certainly not one they'd hope to repeat. The brainchild of rapper Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland, Fyre was supposed to be a luxury experience that would bring A-list music acts to a small island in the Bahamas. Blink-182 was set to perform for the audience, each of whom paid between $4,000 and $20,000 just for the privilege of being there (airfare not included). Within minutes of arriving on the scene, crowds realized that they'd been duped. The festival is a total mess, so much so that the organizers immediately canceled it, allegedly "due to circumstances out of our control."

An official statement claims that "the physical infrastructure was not in place on time and we are unable to fulfill on that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests." Fyre has been postponed to a later date, as live updates from guests continued to flood Twitter over the weekend. While no one has been hurt, attendees are drawing comparisons to Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games.

Update: The festival's organizers released an official apology on their website on Sunday, saying in part, "Billy McFarland and Ja Rule started a partnership over a mutual interest in technology, the ocean, and rap music. This unique combination of interests led them to the idea that, through their combined passions, they could create a new type of music festival and experience on a remote island. They simply weren't ready for what happened next, or how big this thing would get." They also stated that everyone that attended this year's festival is being given full refunds and will receive VIP tickets to next year's festival.

Ja Rule also commented on the situation via Twitter on Sunday. "Relieved to share that all guest[s] are safe, and have been sent the form to apply for a refund. Our deepest apologies... #fyrefestival." And Bella Hadid, who helped promote the festival but wasn't directly associated with it and didn't attend, apologized to her fans via Twitter. "I initially trusted this would be an amazing & memorable experience for all of us . . . I feel so sorry and badly because this is something I couldn't stand by."

Jeffree Star on Too Faced Controversy: "Get Ready For a Blood Bath"

Beauty fans are feeling compelled to choose sides after Jeffree Star went on a major rant against Too Faced co-founder Jerrod Blandino earlier this Spring. Star called out Blandino for allegedly shading Tarte with a now-deleted Instagram post that was captioned #ThereArentUnicornsInTheAmazon, a supposed dig against the brand's Amazonian clay collection and unicorn-inspired range of products. (You can catch up on all that controversy here.)

However, that one Instagram has spawned a great deal of trouble, resurrecting drama from late 2016. Star had hinted at some shady business between his former friend and fellow influencer Nikkie Tutorials and Too Faced, but had stopped himself before saying too much. Now, more details about the Nikkie Tutorials and Too Faced collab have surfaced.

Some may recall that many were disappointed by the quality of the shadow palette in her collection with Too Faced, but Nikkie never addressed this issue, which may have been due to non-disclosure agreements. YouTuber Sanders Kennedy revealed that Nikkie was allegedly paid $50,000 for the partnership - and restricted from teaming up with any other brands or sponsors during this time - but her products yielded almost $9,000,000 in sales. Star pointed this out in tweets.

Another interesting layer of this controversy is that Nikkie and Star aren't friends anymore. In an exclusive comment to Here For the Tea, Star said, "Her and I are no longer friends. You can confirm that. But I still respect her hustle and I watched first hand how they abused her and know how much she got paid. It's embarrassing. I think anyone else BUT me would be afraid to mention the contract. I did it to make a statement and so the audience as a taste as to WHY the palette was so sh*tty. She approved something and what was produced was not the same quality."

It is not confirmed as to why the two no longer speak. But Star's decisions to stand up for her means he may be facing legal action for his remarks. He alludes to this in his tweets, below.

It's hard to infer from these cryptic tweets, but remember: Too Faced was acquired by Estée Lauder in November 2016. Could Estée Lauder be the huge corporation Star is referring to? Star will not be stopped, though, as he went on to share that a Too Faced employee leaked the Nikkie Tutorials contract to him.

The Too Faced/Jeffree Star drama got even more complicated when Blandino's sister Lisa got involved. Star exposed this in a series of tweets, sharing that she bashed his customers.

While Blandino has not remarked on his sister's actions, a quick visit to his Instagram reveals that comments have been disabled for many of his posts. Other posts are filled with commenters sharing their displeasure with the Too Faced co-founder, swearing off the brand and leaving snake emojis in their wake. POPSUGAR has reached out to Jeffree Star, Jerrod Blandino, and Nikkie Tutorials for comment. Stay tuned for more updates on this controversy as they become available.

Can You Believe Selena's "Como La Flor" Was Released 25 Years Ago?

Selena blessed the world with the release of her third studio album, Entre a Mi Mundo, exactly 25 years ago on May 6. The album was No. 1 on the US Billboard Regional Mexican Album list for 19 weeks and was (and still is) considered the "breakthrough" record of the Tejano singer's career.

The biggest single to come out of the album was of course "Como La Flor," a song still beloved by Selena's fans and often covered by stars, including Jackie Cruz and Fifth Harmony's Ally Brooke Hernandez.

The most beautiful rendition of the romantic song was probably the one Selena gave at her very last live concert at the Houston Astrodome in Texas on Feb. 26, 1995. To celebrate the gorgeous and timeless hit, press play above to watch that performance.

A Dedicated Teacher Worked on Lessons Plans Just 1 Hour Before Giving Birth

Posted by Rooted in Love Photography on Wednesday, April 26, 2017

In Fort Worth, TX, a teacher proved both her dedication to the job and her love for her students by putting together lesson plans from the delivery room. Rooted in Love Photography captured the expecting mother taking care of some work from her hospital bed.

On Facebook, the photographer explained the circumstances surrounding the impressive shot. "No, she is not doing her taxes. Those papers would be her lesson plans her husband is about to go drop off with her sub in the parking lot," the photographer explained, adding: "Even in labor, they care. No lie, she gave birth less than an hour later."

The astounding image has since amassed over 7,000 shares and 20,000 reactions on Facebook. What's more, it's inspiring others to give teachers the praise they deserve. On the flip side, it's encouraging other teachers to share their stories. In the comments, one teacher wrote: "I once went dumpster diving for a missing retainer a student accidentally threw away. You would be amazed at what a teacher will do for her students!"

6 Spa Facials That Women of Color Should Try For Glowing Skin

There are few beauty experiences more pampering than a luxurious facial. But for women of color, that moment of relaxation can morph into a nightmare pretty quickly if your face is left in the wrong hands. At times, melanin-rich skin can be a breeding ground for issues like hyperpigmentation, acne, and dryness, leading to an unflattering gray cast.

If you bundle these issues with a facialist who isn't well-versed in dark skin, you'll no doubt regret booking that spa appointment in the first place. The last thing you need is scarring after a chemical peel gone wrong or a mask that aggravates acne you've spent too many sleepless nights trying to heal.

We consulted with some of our favorite spas to discover the best facials to keep darker skin looking fab. Read on for the details, and cheers to glowing skin!

1. Bliss Spa: No 'Zit' Sherlock Facial

The facial: On deep complexions, acne can leave behind dark spots that can take forever to fade. Bliss Spa's No 'Zit' Sherlock treatment (75 mins, $175) includes extractions as well as a gel-based peel with a blend of salicylic and mandelic acids that help reduce hyperpigmentation caused by acne and sun damage. The peel also works to combat bacteria linked to acne. The treatment wraps with a soothing seaweed mask, which tightens pores and leaves skin feeling smooth.

Why it works for dark skin: This facial is a good option for those with oily and acne-prone skin, as the salicylic and mandelic acids help control sebum production. According to Bliss Spa technician Nandi Wagner, there's another major benefit for women of color. "Some alpha hydroxy acids, like glycolic and lactic acids, have been known to irritate the skin and can lead to an increase in pigmentation issues for women of color," Wagner notes. "The combination of salicylic and mandelic acids is safer to use for deeper skin tones because they provide the exfoliation of other AHAs without the irritation."

2. Clarins: Even Skin Perfector Facial

The facial: Clarins stresses that the key to treating discoloration is choosing a treatment that keeps the overall tone of your skin intact. The Even Skin Perfector facial (50 mins, $75; 80 mins, $95) does just that with powerful acerola extract, a wild cherry from South America that's chock-full of vitamin C.

Why it works for dark skin: "Acerola extract targets pigmentation directly by slowing down the production of melanin," says Milana Knowles, senior director of spa development at Clarins. This is an especially good treatment to try after excessive sun exposure, as UV rays stimulate the production of dark spots. "Acerola extract reduces overproduction and subsequently restores a normal level of melanin synthesis," she says.

3. Exhale: Power Facial

The facial: Whether you're struggling with signs of aging, acne, or sun damage, Exhale's Power Facial (60 mins, $245) can meet your needs with its advanced peel and innovative Coolbeam laser. You'll start with an exfoliating mask to revive dull, dehydrated skin, followed by extractions to unclog pores and detoxification. To close, the esthetician treats skin with either Coolbeam or ultrasonic therapies.

Why it works for dark skin: The Power Facial is a great choice for women of color who tend to suffer from dry skin. The facial's Z Peel contains Mucor Miehei Japanese mushroom enzymes that are known to plump, brighten, and soften fine lines. "The Z Peel mimics the skin's own cell turnover process, making it both gentle and effective," says Laura Benge, Exhale's national spa director.

4. Joanna Vargas: Triple Crown Facial

The facial: There's a reason why celebrities love Joanna Vargas's Triple Crown facial (60 mins, $250; $550 with Joanna). The mix of exfoliation and soothing oxygen therapy removes impurities and dead cells and allows products to penetrate more deeply into the skin. The gentle exfoliation also helps to even out the skin tone, which is helpful for women of color suffering from hyperpigmentation. Bonus: the use of oxygen is anti-inflammatory and boosts collagen production.

Why it works for dark skin: "As a Latin woman, I pride myself on understanding skin of all tones," says Joanna Vargas, celebrity facialist and founder of Joanna Vargas Salon and Skin Care Collection. "The Triple Crown Facial works great for women of color in particular because it is not product-heavy. Many women of color have extremely sensitive skin and any type of inflammation in the skin could result in long-lasting discoloration."

5. LaVida Massage: Ultrasonic Facial

The facial: Acne-prone skin in particular is the perfect candidate for a treatment involving a deep cleaning method. With the Ultrasonic Facial (60 mins, $85 for members, $115 for non-members), a light paddle is used to deliver a low-frequency ultrasonic vibration that lifts dirt from the face and loosens dead skin cells. The machine flushes the skin with water to remove dirt from pores, and steam might be added for more intense results. The treatment includes Dermalogica products like a brightening serum and a mask to revitalize the skin.

Why it works for dark skin: The Ultrasonic Facial involves a thorough cleaning and is also customizable, making it a great option for women of color with specific skin concerns ranging from acne to dullness. And there's one other benefit: anti-aging effects. "The Ultrasonic Facial Treatment is recommended for those seeking anti-aging benefits because of the fantastic lifting properties associated with the method," says Joy LaPointe, the skin therapist and manager at LaVida Massage's location in Brighton, Michigan.

LaPointe recommends clients with hyperpigmentation follow up the Ultrasonic Facial with Dermalogica's PowerBright TRx Treatment Kit ($40), featuring the C-12 Pure Bright Serum for hyperpigmentation, Pure Light (SPF50), and Pure Night, a nourishing overnight treatment moisturizer to maintain luminous results.

6. Red Door Spa: Skin Illuminating Advanced Brightening Facial

The facial: Elizabeth Arden's Skin Illuminating Advanced Brightening Facial (65 mins, $145-$160 based on location) is the answer for treating hyperpigmentation and dry skin.

Why it works for dark skin: It addresses dark spots, uneven skin tone, and complexions lacking the healthy glow we all strive for. A mix of vitamins A, B3, and C; licorice extract; and exfoliants, including melting microbeads and natural enzymes, work to target excess melanin production in the skin to boost brightness and promote hydration. The facial's use of salicylic acid "delivers anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties to heal and reduce inflammation from breakouts and balance excess oil production," says Ann Balaguera, Elizabeth Arden's national director of esthetics. Because of this, women of color with any scarring or discoloration issues would find this facial especially helpful. For optimal results, a series of six to eight treatments is recommended.

Nancy Pelosi: "I Never Thought I'd Pray For the Day" Bush Was President

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had a slip of the tongue when she accidentally referred to President Donald Trump as former President George W. Bush during an interview on ABC's The Week. Pelosi sat down with Jonathan Karl to discuss President Trump's first 100 days in office and how the Democratic party could work with him, but it wasn't until she mixed the names up that the interview really escalated.

"Winning means winning for the American people, that either we win or whoever wins understands the priorities of the American people," she said. "And they are not with President Bush." Um. . .

"Excuse me!" she said, after catching her mistake. "I'm so sorry, President Bush. I never thought I'd pray for the day that you were president again."

Liberals could not stand President Bush - and he frequently pops up on lists of our nation's worst-ever presidents - but Pelosi seems to be saying that even Bush's most dismal approval ratings are nothing compared to the way President Trump is viewed by the Democratic leaders and left-leaning citizens.

This isn't the first time that liberals have spoken out about the ironic comparison between Trump and Bush. During Samantha Bee's Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner, Will Ferrell brought back his notorious George W. Bush impression to laugh about the times when he "was considered the worst president of all time."

"I needed eight years, a catastrophic flood, a war built on a lie, and an economic disaster," Ferrell said as Bush. "The new guy only needed 100 days. He is widely considered the worst president of all time. I came in second. I'm fine with that. No one remembers second place."

23 GIFs of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki That Will Make You Supernaturally Happy

Bromances in Hollywood are a beautiful thing. While some are more unexpected (hello, Ryan Gosling and Jon Hamm), others have remained constant throughout the ever-changing tide of show business. If you didn't already guess, we're talking about Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. It all began way back in the year 2005 when their show, Supernatural, first premiered. And in the almost 12 years since then, the two have managed to build a bond (and fan base) most people can only wish for. Whether they're goofing off on set or just hanging out in real life, they always manage to have a good time. Now, if Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds can keep their bromance up for as many years as Jensen and Jared have, we'd be all set.

Mom’s Universal Message After Daughter Is Almost Killed by a Kitchen Knife

Moms are used to doing a million things with their kids in tow. From folding laundry while their baby plays on the bed to cooking dinner while toddlers sit underfoot, we manage and make do.

But one of those typical multi-tasking moments turned terrifying for Australian mom of two Bec Crombie, who blogged about how she "almost killed [her] daughter" that day:

It was like any other regular afternoon of ours, which includes me in the kitchen prepping dinner with Nylah playing with cups and pots at my feet. I had peeled and chopped the potatoes, placing them in the pot and the knife back on the board, when I took one step to the left to remove the husk from the corn. As quickly as I had briefly stepped away, Nylah had stood up and grabbed the board from the bench. Which resulted in a 20-cm knife falling and narrowly missing stabbing her in the face.

Thankfully, everyone was OK and Nylah "wasn't even left with a scratch." Still, it left Bec in tears, thinking about what could have happened. Up until that day, Bec wrote, her daughter had never tried to grab the bench. "It shocked me that she could even reach."

Instead of keeping the near accident a secret, however, she felt compelled to share her story and implore parents to remain especially vigilant in not just the bathtub, pools, and parking lots – where we know things can happen in the blink of an eye – but also in the kitchen.

"I've copped so much sh*t in the past for being a helicopter parent, or one that is overly cautious," she wrote. "Truth is, it can happen to you. They are labeled 'accidents' for a reason. They are purely accidental, freak occurrences. Children are determined, inquisitive, and lightning-speed escape artists. Children are so quick, and we can really never be too careful."

Jamie Lynn Spears Channels Her Big Sis For a Toxic Britney Spears Medley

Britney Spears got a sweet surprise when she was awarded with the first-ever Icon Award at the Radio Disney Music Awards on Saturday. During a medley of her greatest hits, her little sister Jamie Lynn made a special appearance on stage to perform "Till the World Ends," and it's making us see double. Clad in a black jumpsuit and long blonde hair, the former Nickelodeon star was a complete dead-ringer for her big sis, who starred on Disney's Mickey Mouse Club 23 years ago, as she sang the pop tune. And she wasn't the only starlet to honor the pop star. The show's hosts, Kelsea Ballerini and Sofia Carson, were joined by Hailee Steinfeld to sing hits like "Oops! . . . I Did It Again," ". . . Baby One More Time," and "Circus" while dressed in classic Britney outfits. See all the clips below.

20 Fyre Festival Tweets You'll Feel Bad For Laughing At

The ill-fated Fyre Festival might go down in history as one of music's biggest fails: what was originally billed as a "once-in-a-lifetime musical experience" quickly became a complete disaster. The festival, held on the small island of Exuma in the Bahamas, was the brainchild of rapper Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland (who have since issued public apologies and are reportedly facing a $100 million lawsuit). Within minutes of arriving on the island on Friday, fans - who had paid between $4,000 and $20,000 for the weekend - realized they had been hoodwinked, and the jokes pretty much wrote themselves. Here are 20 social media reactions to Fyre Festival that you'll feel kind of bad for laughing at.

How Do You Respond to a Homophobic Slur? 1 State Lawmaker Just Called the Troll's Grandma

If someone trolling you lists a phone number on their profile, it makes perfect sense to call the number and confront them. That's exactly what Pennsylvania state congressman, Brian Sims did, except he didn't speak to the troll over the phone; Sims ended up speaking to his grandmother.

It all began when a man named David (Sims censored his last name on the conversation's screenshot) posted not one, but two offensive slurs on his wall. Sims followed the troll's profile and found his grandmother's phone number on his page in a number of places. Sims called the grandmother and according to HuffPo, their conversation went exactly as one might anticipate.

"I explained to her exactly who I was and what he had done," Sims said to HuffPo. "Like any grandma, she was very embarrassed at having this kind of convo and very ashamed at the actions of her grandson. The conversation ended with me telling her that I wanted to hear from him."

Following their conversation, Sims shared a screenshot of the offending comment along with a message for future trolls. "Dear Bigots, posting your grandmother's telephone number all over the same page you use to post slurs on other people's pages is not going to end well for you," wrote Sims.

Princess Charlotte Gives a Sly Smirk in Precious New Birthday Photo

Princess Charlotte is growing up fast! In honor of her second birthday on May 2, a precious new photo of Charlotte was released by the Duchess of Cambridge on Monday. In the snap, the little one gives a sly smirk while wearing a yellow sweater and holding on to what appears to be a book. The last official photo of Charlotte we were treated to was on her first birthday in 2016, though we did get to see her attending church with her parents on Christmas and living it up on a royal tour of Canada with her brother, George, back in September.

It's already shaping up to be a big week for the family; Will and Kate celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary on Saturday, and the duchess is scheduled to visit Farms For City Children in the UK on Wednesday. Later this month, Charlotte and her older brother will have big parts in their aunt Pippa Middleton's wedding to James Matthews.

Dad of Terminal Baby Carried to Donate Organs Speaks Out About Her Death

We said hello and goodbye to our sweet Eva Grace yesterday.

Eva Grace Young -- 4-17-17

Posted by Royce Young on Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Royce and Keri Young knew that their baby girl Eva was going to die when Keri was just 19 weeks pregnant, as Eva was diagnosed with a rare birth defect called anencephaly. The diagnosis was fatal, but the couple made a decision to carry Eva to term in order to donate her organs, a decision that made the family go viral. Now, weeks after saying hello and goodbye to Eva, Royce is candidly speaking out about his daughter's death, because even though he knew it was coming, nothing went as expected.

In an essay posted to Medium titled, "We spent months bracing and preparing for the death of our daughter. But guess what? We weren't ready," Royce delves into the unexpected joy he and Keri found in the pregnancy.

We happily talked about our sweet Eva, and day by day our love for her grew. We got excited to be her parents. I think a big part of that was connected to the decision we made to continue on, which was empowering. She had a name, an identity, and a purpose. The idea of choice in pregnancy is a complicated one, and one I kind of want to avoid here, but our own personal convictions were pushed to the limits. Keri likes to say, "You think you know, but you have no idea." Until you put the shoes on and start walking the road, you don't have any clue. But wherever you fall, we just know that we were empowered by our decision, our responsibility, to be Eva's mom and dad for as long as we could. We are thankful to have had made the decision on our own terms, rather than a rule book telling us we had to. We went from seeing the pregnancy as a vehicle to only help others, to looking forward to holding her, and kissing her, and telling her about her brother, and being her parents. The time we'd have was completely unknown, with it ranging anywhere from five seconds to five minutes to five hours, to in some more optimistic estimates, five days.

Leading up to Keri's May 2 C-section date, the Youngs had meeting after meeting with doctors, the people from the organ procurement organization, LifeShare, NICU nurses, and other hospital personnel. They made plans of action for every possible outcome, still facing the crushing fact that their girl was going to die. "We had to make concessions with the transplant doctor, things like agreeing to intubate Eva shortly after delivery," he wrote. "But we were willing, because regardless of our parental instincts to want to love and hold her for as long as we could, we also very clearly understood the inevitable. There was no changing the fact she would die."

Despite all of their planning for the best possible outcome, on April 16 and at 37 weeks, Keri knew something was wrong with Eva when she wasn't moving around as usual. "We started to worry. Keri got up, walked around, drank cold water, ate some sugary stuff. She sat back down and waited. Maybe that was something? We decided to go to the hospital," Royce wrote. "'This is going to be bad, isn't it?' I said. Keri erupted into tears and her body shook. I had my answer."

Feeling completely unprepared, the couple went to the hospital only to confirm their biggest fear via ultrasound: Eva was gone.

Keri rolled onto her side and put both hands over her face and let out one of those raw, visceral sobbing bursts. I stood silently shaking my head. We had tried to do everything right, tried to think of others, tried to take every possible step to make this work, and it didn't. No organ donation. Not even for the failsafe, research. We felt cheated. What a total rip-off. The word I still have circling in my head is disappointment. That doesn't really do it justice, because it's profound disappointment. Like the kind that's going to haunt me forever. . . .

Not that grief needs to be ranked, but compared to even when we found out Eva's diagnosis, this was so much worse. We had come to terms with the outcome, and had almost found a joy in the purpose of our daughter's life. We looked forward to meeting her and loving her. She was making an impact already, and people from around the world were celebrating her. We knew we'd hurt from her loss, but there was a hope in the difference she was making. We heard from recipients of organ donation that were so encouraging and uplifting. But the deal got altered. The rug was pulled out from underneath us. This was a curveball we couldn't accept. It felt like we were letting everyone down (I know how ridiculous that sounds). I felt embarrassed because all that positivity about saving lives wasn't happening now (I know how ridiculous that sounds). All the meticulous planning and procedures, all out the window. I'm telling you, just . . . disappointment.

And on top of it all, the ultimate kick in the gut: We wouldn't even see her alive. I struggled with the idea of Eva's existence and her humanity all along, whether a terminal diagnosis made her dead already. I clung to knowing her humanity would be validated to me when I saw her as a living, breathing human being. I would hold my daughter and be her daddy. I wanted to watch her die, because that would mean that I got to watch her live. Think about that one for a second. Now it was all gone. I longed for just five minutes with her, heck, five seconds with her. All of that practical stuff about organ donation was irrelevant to me now. I just wanted to hold my baby girl and see her chest move up and down. I just wanted to be her daddy, if only for a few seconds.

Keri was induced and the couple somberly waited for Eva's arrival along with their birth photographer. Then Royce received a text from LifeShare with more unexpected news: they had a recipient for Eva's eyes. "It's a weird thing to say that in probably the worst experience of my life was also maybe the best moment of my life, but I think it was the best moment of my life. The timing of it all is just something I can't explain," Royce said. "It wasn't what we planned or hoped for, but it was everything we needed in that moment. I buried my head in my arms and sobbed harder than I ever have. Keri put her hands over her face and did the same. Happy tears."

Royce ends his soul-crushing story with an uplifting note about his daughter's legacy, despite nothing involving her birth or death going as originally planned.

We're trying to rest on knowing we did the best we could. We always said we wanted to limit our regret, and I think in 20 years or so as we reflect on this, there's not much we'd change. Because anything we would change was already outside of our control anyway. We're proud to be Eva's parents. We're thrilled with the impact she's made. People from around the world have sent us messages telling us they've signed up to be organ donors, because of Eva. She's the first ever - not baby, but person - in the state of Oklahoma to donate a whole eye, and she donated two. Because of her, LifeShare has made connections in other states to set up eye transplants for the future. They have an infant organ donation plan they now are working with that they'd shared with other organ procurement organizations in Colorado and Texas. They call it the Eva Protocol. It's laminated and everything. . . .

We always knew organ transplant was only just a chance anyway, and a slim one at that. But we wanted to take it. Someone's life is worth the chance. In some ways, though, I'm more excited about her eyes being her living legacy. I keep thinking about looking into them some day, but more than anything, about her eyes seeing her mom, dad and brother. . . . I can't ever hold my daughter again. I can't ever talk to her or hear her giggle. But I can dream about looking into her eyes for the first time one day, and finding out what color they are.

13 Reasons Why: Here's the Guy Who Plays Your Crush, Jeff

13 Reasons Why has one of the strongest young ensemble casts we've seen in years. Katherine Langford and Dylan Minnette are the leads, Hannah and Clay, and they're surrounded by about a dozen high school students, each with their own story. One of the only relatively pure characters in the series - since just about everyone seems to have committed some mild-to-heinous act that pushes Hannah closer to suicide - is Jeff Atkins. He's the jock whom Clay tutors in the library, and Jeff helps him with his dating life.

Jeff is played by 22-year-old Brandon Larracuente, whom you may recognize from another Netflix drama: Bloodline. Larracuente starred in both season one and two as Ben Rayburn, John and Diana's son.

The New York-born actor has had a handful of small roles over the past few years (like "Attentive Kid" in Max Steel), but that's about it. You can catch him in Baywatch this Summer, if you're eagle-eyed enough to spot him as "Skateboarder #1." He also has a bit part in Bright, Netflix's upcoming thriller starring Will Smith. At this point, it's safe to say Larracuente is an integral part of the Netflix family!

Kendall Jenner Just Found a New Way to Free the Nipple

In 2016, Kendall Jenner penned an essay on her blog about her affinity for not wearing bras. It was fittingly titled "Free the Nipple." Since then, the model has consistently ditched a bra before stepping out in public. For a recent outing, however, Kendall found a brand new way to "free the nipple."

While out with friends in New York City on April 30, Kendall sported a graphic t-shirt that featured a cheeky drawing of boobs. This simple shirt in particular comes from Never Fully Dressed, a British brand that fortunately ships internationally. But plenty of Etsy shops offer similar designs too. The best part? They're all extremely affordable with several of them being less than $20! Ahead, see pictures of Kendall's quirky top and some options to shop the trend yourself.

While doing research for this holographic eyeliner trend report, I stumbled upon these mesmerizing iterations that take the tinsel style one notch up. And it's actually pretty flattering since the opalescent paper brightens up the eye area. You can either do it all over the lid (like shadow) or on the edges (similar to an eyeliner wing).

Re-creating it at home is easier than you might think. Simply do your regular bold eye makeup, then cut up pieces of holographic paper. Perhaps it comes from last year's holiday decor and wrapping paper. Make them into little "shards," which you will then adhere to your skin with eyelash glue. Done!
