Selena Gomez and The Weeknd Can't Keep Their Hands to Themselves When They're Together
Selena Gomez and The Weeknd's relationship just keeps getting cuter and cuter. The two, who started dating in January, recently made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Met Gala, but they shared plenty of PDA-filled outings before then. Whether they're cuddling up at Coachella or enjoying romantic getaways in Europe, Selena and The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) always have smiles on their faces whenever they're together. Their relationship may still be fairly new, but it's obvious they make each other happy. See some of their sweetest moments here.
Sen. Kamala Harris on Congressman's Tonedeaf Health Care Claim: "What the F*ck is That?"
Senator Kamala Harris is not afraid to be blunt. The California lawmaker had some choice words about Idaho Rep. Raul Labrador's claim that "nobody dies" from lack of access to health care during her new interview on Pod Save America - a podcast started by former staffers of President Obama.
"You might as well say, 'People don't starve because they don't have food,' the California Senator said during the May 8 episode. "What the f*ck is that? What are you saying? How can you say that?"
Harris's remarks were hypercritical of the Congressman's mischaracterization of the proposed American Health Care Act, which would severely cut access to adequate health care, and allow for the imposition of high premiums on people with preexisting conditions. As Harris pointed out, if people with preexisting conditions can no longer afford health insurance, they very well may die.
Following backlash to his outlandish claim, Representative Raul Labrador of Idaho walked back his comments. "I was responding to a false notion that the Republican health care plan will cause people to die in the streets, which I completely reject," Raul wrote on Facebook.
Now that the ACHA has passed through the House, the Senate is expected to draft its own version of the bill. Speaking on the Democratic fight against the legislation, Harris told Pod Save America that lawmakers must speak the truth. ""The truth is that these folks are playing politics with public health," Harris said. "The truth is that . . . if Republicans want people to lose their healthcare, then the Republicans needs to lose their job."
You Should Be Jealous of the Baby Who Gets to Live in This Mario Kart Nursery
Wes, a dad from North Carolina, created a Mario Kart 8-themed nursery for his son, Grant, that will make any Nintendo-lover go crazy. The baby's room took over a year to complete, through what Wes calls "Geeksmithing," or "the process of creating objects that are inspired by geeky or pop culture references using a wide range of tools, materials, and techniques." This isn't his first rodeo - Wes created a Yoshi's Island nursery for his daughter and a Legends of Zelda-themed room for a friend's child.

A New Study Finally Determined What Causes Gray Hair - and No, It's Not Stress
Contrary to popular belief, gray hair doesn't grow out of stressful situations or having to parent teenagers. A new study conducted by the by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center actually determined the two proteins essential to hair growth and pigmentation. The best part? Their findings were all an accident.
Published in Genes & Development, the study was meant to examine certain kinds of tumors using mice. What they ended up finding were the causes of gray hair and baldness. Here's the breakdown: KROX20 is a protein that triggers skin cells to become hair shafts. The cumbersomely named protein also triggers cells to product a stem cell factor protein, or SCF. The loss of KROX20 leads to baldness, while the loss of the SCF gene leads to gray hair.
While the researchers did not determine what might cause the loss of those two proteins apart from just genetics, they do have hope for future solutions. In a press statement, Dr. Lu Le said, "With this knowledge, we hope in the future to create a topical compound or to safely deliver the necessary gene to hair follicles to correct these cosmetic problems."

Adidas Created Another Sneaker Collection Using Ocean Plastic - and It's Out Tomorrow!
Following its debut collaboration with Parley, Adidas has created yet another collection made from "reclaimed and recycled ocean waste." The highly anticipated three-product range includes the brand's UltraBoost X for women, in addition to two men's styles: the UltraBoost and UltraBoost Uncaged.
The innovative sneakers are both environmentally conscious and athletically effective. Due to the soft Parley yarn used in the knit, the three sneakers are described as being very flexible and comfortable for runners at all levels. What's more, the sleek navy color and minimalistic design also makes them a stylish choice.
The entire collection will be officially available online and in stores on May 10. Each sneaker is priced at $200. It's worth noting that sneakers in the brand's men's category don't have to be exclusively for men. Thankfully, there are plenty of sizes, many of which can accommodate female shoppers.
Katy Perry Has a Message For Everyone, Including Taylor Swift: "Don't Come For Me"
It's no secret that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift aren't the best of friends. The two have had a rumored feud for years, and things came to a head in 2014 when Taylor released her song "Bad Blood," which she later hinted to Rolling Stone was about Katy. Since then, Katy's fans have been anxiously waiting for her reply to come in the form of a song, but so far there's been nothing. And Katy recently told Entertainment Weekly that that's not about to change. When asked by the magazine if she thinks the song is indeed about her, she said, "Well, that's not my question to answer - if it's about me. I think [my new album] is a very empowered record. There is no one thing that's calling out any one person."
The "Bon Appétit" singer may not be planning any revenge tracks right now, but she also made it clear that nobody should mistake that silence for not saying anything at all. "One thing to note is: You can't mistake kindness for weakness and don't come for me. Anyone. Anyone. Anyone," she continued. "And that's not to any one person and don't quote me that it is, because it's not. It's not about that. Honestly, when women come together and they decide to unite, this world is going to be a better place. Period, end of story. But let me say this: Everything has a reaction or a consequence, so don't forget about that, OK, honey. We got to keep it real, honey. This record is not about anyone else! This record is about me being seen and heard so that I can see and hear everyone else! It's not even about me! It's about everything that I see out there that I digest. I think there's a healing in it for me and vulnerability. If people want to connect and be healed and feel vulnerable and feel empowered and strong, God bless and here it is."
Pulse Nightclub Will Be Memorialized as "Sanctuary of Hope" in Orlando
In the aftermath of the deadly 2016 mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL, the scene of the massacre is officially being turned into a permanent memorial site. "The community most impacted by this horrible event in our history should determine the future of the Pulse site and how their loved ones and the events of that day should be memorialized," said Pulse owner and onePULSE Foundation director Barbara Poma. She later added, "We will not let hate win."
According to Poma, the goal for the Pulse memorial will be to "create a sanctuary of hope around this tragic day in American history," and the effort will be guided with input from many of the 58 living victims of the shooting and the families of the 49 deceased.
"What began as a place for fun and joy is now sacred ground," Poma told news outlets of the memorial effort, which will be headed up by the onePULSE foundation. "We must never forget the true focus of the project."
The site already serves as a memorial, with candles, signs, rainbow flags, and more tokens of grief and solidarity from mourners placed along the fence surrounding the nightclub. Now that the club will be turned into a permanent national memorial (and eventually a museum), the Orlando community will have a place to grieve, educate others, and pay respects for the foreseeable future.

Teacher's DIY Dress For the Last Day of School Is Completely Perfect
"Who are you wearing?" is one of the most commonly asked questions to celebrities as they walk down a red carpet. First grade teacher ShaRee Castlebury took to her Facebook to answer that same question - though instead of into a swarm of paparazzi, she walked into her classroom on the last day of the 2015-2016 school year. Rather than responding with the name of a famous designer, she told her followers that she was wearing "Room 219." The comment accompanies photos of Castlebury wearing a beautiful DIY dress that is completely covered in the artwork of her students, and it's totally awesome.

Badass Senator Smashes the Patriarchy by Breastfeeding in the Parliament Chamber
When Australian Senator Larissa Waters returned to work from maternity leave, she couldn't resist bringing her newborn daughter along for the ride - and the cute duo made history in the process.
On May 9, Waters - who is codeputy leader of the Green Party in Australia - became the first woman to breastfeed a baby in Parliament when she nourished her 2-month-old baby, Alia Joy, right there in the chamber. Back in February 2016, Parliament officially started allowing this as part of some "family friendly" rule updates, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, but it looks like Waters was the first trailblazer to take advantage of the updated protocols.
Waters shared a sweet photo of the significant moment on Twitter, captioning the snapshot, "So proud that my daughter Alia is the first baby to be breastfed in the federal Parliament! We need more #women & parents in Parli."
Just two months ago, on International Women's Day, Waters alluded to making this groundbreaking move in a Facebook status welcoming baby Alia into the world. "I'll be having a few more weeks off but will soon be back in parliament with this little one in tow . . . And yes, if she's hungry, she will be breastfed in the Senate chamber," she wrote. Keep smashin' that patriarchy, Waters!

An Open Letter to My Fellow Single Moms on Mother’s Day
Dear single moms on Mother's Day:
As a single mom to one kid, I understand how lonely and hard Mother's Day can be. There is this expectation and facade that somehow every mother should be waited on hand and foot and taken to an amazing brunch by her gorgeous husband and beautiful children. The older I get, the more clear it is to me that there is no perfect situation, no matter what it looks like on the outside. Whether a mom has a partner in the picture or not, accepting that perfection does not exist is the first step to beginning to enjoy what we have and be present in the moment, because Mother's Day is a day to be celebrated.
Now that I'm parenting on my own, I can appreciate how nice it is to be able to wake up and not feel anxious or frustrated because I had expectations for something - a nice gift from my spouse or child, breakfast in bed, a planned family activity - that didn't come to fruition. It can actually be refreshing to know that you now get to plan your own Mother's Day and that you are in charge of every aspect.
Now that I am in my 40s, it is glaringly apparent that I am lucky to have my son. I have seen so many women struggle later in life to have a baby and not be able to. Even with IVF and the multitude of medical solutions to aid in having a baby, there is no guarantee that every woman will be able to become a mother. Keeping this realization in mind has made me so grateful to have the chance to be a mom on Mother's Day.
Like with anything, we can decide to make the best of a moment or squander it. For me to personally make the best of Mother's Day, I like to look back and reflect on all of the past Mother's Days I have had and how the holiday has become so much easier over time. I have saved all of my Mother's Day cards and keep a journal to help me reflect on how differently I can feel from year to year.
One thing is for sure: change will come throughout all seasons of life and you will likely not be in the same situation next year that you are in today. Knowing that change is inevitable is another reason to be grateful for what we have today, single mom or not.
I am grateful for my son, for our unique relationship, and for the opportunity to be a mother, regardless of raising him alone. I hope you can find gratitude today and realize what an amazing gift you are to your children today and every day.
From,
A fellow single mom

These Are the Hip Stretches Your Body Needs Stat
We sit for hours. At desks. In cars. On couches binge-watching new releases on Netflix. All this sitting makes for some seriously tight and achy hips, but we have an easy remedy: stretching, of course. To take care of this joint, you need to lengthen all the muscles around the hips and glutes. Here are nine stretches that will do just that.
It's best to stretch your muscles when your body is warm, so after a workout is ideal. If you're ready to dedicate a stretch session to your hips right now, do a little light cardio - think jumping jacks - and then get to stretching.
11 Struggles People Who Look Young For Their Age Will Understand
I can't tell you how many times people have been shocked to learn my age. Granted that 23 is still very young, but I've been turned away from an embarrassing number of bars. I also remember giving my car keys to a parking attendant when I first interviewed for my job here at POPSUGAR and getting asked if I was old enough to drive. He thought I was 15. And that's only one of many occasions in my lifetime. I wonder how I'll feel once I actually do stop looking "young for my age." But until that day, here are 11 struggles I deal with on the daily that all of you baby faces will be able to relate to.
This Gorgeous Bookstore Is Said to Have Possibly Inspired Parts of Hogwarts
You've got a new place to add to your Harry Potter travel list. A magical bookstore in Porto, Portugal, called Livraria Lello seriously looks like every book-lover's dream. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, but it also resembles the famous Hogwarts staircase in Harry Potter.
According to AFP, J.K. Rowling would frequent the bookstore when she lived in the city from 1991 to 1993. A nearby cafe called Cafe Majestic is also where the author wrote her first draft of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
Livraria Lello's stunning twisting staircase and stair bridge would look familiar to any Harry Potter fan. Customers have said that the bookstore even reminds them of Flourish and Blotts, where Harry and other students would get their reading materials for school. True or not, the bookstore is completely stunning either way. The stained-glass ceiling includes the Latin phrase Decus in Labore (sounds like a spell to us!), which translate to "Dignity in Work."
Although admission to the bookstore costs three euros, the entrance fee is refunded if you purchase a book. University students also walk around in their traditional uniforms that feature black capes, making them look like Hogwarts students in their robes.

The Everyday Bathroom Item Sending Thousands of Kids to the Emergency Room
For as long as we can remember, parents have been warned against using cotton swabs to clean their children's ears, but this is still proving to be an issue, sending thousands of kids to the hospital. A new study published in The Journal of Pediatrics revealed that from 1990 to 2010, more than 263,000 children had been treated in emergency rooms for cotton-tip-applicator-related ear injuries in the United States.
Although the study was framed around individuals under the age of 18, children under 8 made up about 67 percent of the study and children under 3 retained the highest degree of injury. It's important to point out that the most common diagnosis of these emergency room incidents was "the presence of a foreign body and tympanic membrane perforation," which means that a portion the cotton swab was stuck in the ear canal, causing damage to the eardrum.
If not treated right away, the pushing of a cotton swab in your child's (or your own) ear could result in hearing loss, dizziness, bleeding, and pain, as noted in the study.
This is a horrible and preventable injury that parents need to be reminded about. Even if you're not using the swabs to clean your children's ears, the majority of patients treated in the study had handled the cotton swabs themselves, so please keep them out of reach. Ear wax is normal and your ears are self-cleaning, so the wax will eventually fall out. Please see the doctor if your child has an excessive amount of wax, but do not resort to cleaning with a cotton swab!

The 2 Things This Fashion Editor Always Shops at Target
Upon entering Target, some ladies run to the swimsuit section while others immediately start to search for leftover pieces from the latest designer collaboration. And maybe the shoe connoisseurs head to footwear, knowing they can shop the Converse brand for less. Me? I go straight to the men's department. It's here that I secure two of my biggest wardrobe staples: plain white tees and crewneck sweatshirts, both of which happen to be Hanes.
While these are the most casual pieces in my closet, I wear them regularly. I own the fleece-lined sweatshirts in almost every color, and I use them to help balance out my fancy metallic midi skirts at least once a week. The t-shirts are made from fabric so soft that I practically live in them, from the gym to brunch to a night out, once I've added a leather jacket. Scroll to see why I'll never stop buying these must haves from the great land of Target, and why I highly suggest you follow suit.

I Never Thought Much of Mother's Day Until I Lost My Mom
It's hard to avoid all the commercials for last-minute gifts and flower bouquets, the drugstore aisles overflowing with greeting cards, but I've become an expert at looking away. Now an email stares out from my inbox touting "Mother's Day must haves" and I squeeze my eyes to prevent tears from coming out so my co-workers won't see. The only thing I want is for my mom to just be here. But she's gone.
My mom passed away completely unexpectedly last Summer, and while I feel stronger and more together than I thought was possible, most days I wake up in shock that my new reality is a life without my mom. I've learned how to navigate that deep pain a bit, having some control over when and how I want to think about it and experience it, but I have my triggers. It hurts when I hear people complaining about how their moms are "so annoying." It stings when I see a little girl and her mom holding hands. But tackling Mother's Day alone? Nothing prepared me for this.
This holiday always felt completely innocuous till now. In fact, my mom never liked us making a big deal over it. So I'm trying to remind myself that it's just a day, and not everyone is experiencing it like I am. But then it occurred to me - some are. And so, for those of you out there who have lost their mom, or are curious what this type of loss feels like, I feel compelled to share a voice that's not really heard. Mother's Day doesn't have to be just for celebrating; it can be for remembering. Here's how I've been getting through it so far.
Remembering the kind of mom she was
The weirdest thing about losing your mom suddenly at a young age is that you never, not for a minute, thought she wouldn't be there. As a kid I'd call out her name in the darkness from my bedroom if I ever felt scared or ill. Sometimes I could only get out a whisper, but she'd appear instantly, as if she already knew. She taught me everything. How to draw, how to paint my nails, how to cram for a geography test, how to identify the coolest bands on the radio, how to believe in myself, and how to express myself. Rather than focus on what I've lost, I think about how lucky I am for all that I've gained. In the moment, when something I'm doing reminds me of my mom, I send her a smile and sort of thank her in my head. Even though she's not here, she's still a guiding light.
Reaching out to fellow grievers
Thanks in part to my journalistic instincts, I felt weirdly compelled to reach out to a few friends who had also lost their parents. My mission was twofold: one, to tell them how sorry I was for not even remotely understanding how devastating their loss was at the time, and two, to uncover where they found their strength. If you've lost someone yourself or you know someone who has, I can't express how helpful reaching out can be. My friends didn't really have advice about how they got through it, but they all revealed the same thing that gave me hope: whether their mom or dad had been gone for one year or 20, they still felt like they were there, and when they thought about them, it was more often with a smile instead of just tears. That became my new goal.
Doing what makes me feel good
Sometimes it's hard to figure out what this is, especially in the early stages of grieving. At first I couldn't eat for days, so if I felt like doughnuts, I got them. I swapped watching dramas and thrillers for a pretty steady diet of comedies and sitcom reruns before bed (I find nighttime is the hardest). As a natural nurturer, I found myself worrying more about others, so I stepped up to the plate to help my family, organizing arrangements, checking in daily with my dad and brother, and doing my best to make sure we were all moving forward in a healthy way. I decided to go back to work soon after my mom passed, because I felt I needed it. In part because it was a helpful distraction, but also because doing a good job at something I had control over made me feel really strong. Some days the only thing that felt good was binge-watching Netflix under a big blanket, and I told myself that was OK, too.
Asking for what I need
When coping with loss, you may want time for quiet reflection, you may want a hug from a friend, or you may want to be really social - and all of this may change depending on the day. Don't expect those around you to be mind readers or you might be disappointed. Sometimes I randomly want to talk about my mom or feel overwhelmed with sadness, and it feels weird to bring it up. I still struggle with this one, to be honest. My boyfriend and I have developed a routine where I'll sniffle a bit, he'll ask what's wrong, I'll say nothing, he'll ask if it's about my mom, I'll nod, and he'll ask if I wanna talk about it. Sometimes I'll share a memory, and other times I opt out, but it feels so good just knowing he gets it.
If you're feeling like you need support on Mother's Day - or any time - you may just need to text a friend and say, "Hey, I'm having a rough day." And if you know someone may be down, but you don't know what to say, you can always reach out and say, "Hey, I'm thinking of you today." You can't go wrong with opening the door and letting your friend know you are there.
Honing in on what's important
While I didn't change my lifestyle, you could say my priorities changed by truly learning the meaning of "life is too short." I may not be able to experience major life milestones with my mom, but I am determined to live a happy and fulfilling life with my loved ones. That translates to giving those I care about as much time and attention as possible. I wish I'd had more time with my mom to make just one more wonderful memory, but I'm so lucky that I have decades of them to conjure up whenever I please. Especially on Mother's Day.
Dad Figures Out How to "Punish" His Son After He Admits to Stealing
When his 5-year-old admitted to stealing a pack of gum, one dad knew that rather than take things away from his son or ground him, he needed to come up with a way to teach him about the real-life consequences of theft. The father, who goes by userbelowisamonster on Reddit, shared his method in a post aptly titled: "Parenting, just making it up as we go. Theft edition."
This dad first realized something was fishy when his 5-year-old offered him a piece of the contraband after a trip to the store. "When I had my back turned he apparently just picked it up and walked out," he wrote. "I found this out after he was chewing it and offered me a piece (because 5-year-old logic). So I asked him if he paid for it and he told me no. I told him how proud I was for him telling me the truth, but disappointed that he had to resort to stealing."
He thought carefully about how to "punish" his son, and came up with an age-appropriate way the boy could "pay off his debts."
So I figured how much the gum cost and added on $0.50 for a "fine." So total came to $2.50. I made him do odd jobs that are appropriate for a 5-year-old and told him until he pays off his debt he doesn't get any privileges like TV, tablet, or playing outside. So he worked off $1.50 and then I told him for "community service" he needs to clean his room by himself and clean up his brother's toys, too. I told him that this would also count for his last dollar. So now he's in his room cleaning it up and I can hear the occasional "Ugh! I'm never going to steal again!"
So there you have it. Child-size versions of real life consequences. I'd rather he learn them now than steal as a teenager and face hefty fines, community service, or even jail time. But to make this into a positive I'm going to start giving him an allowance for completing his chores and teaching him about money and proper finances.
And as for fessing up his actions to the store? "After he earns his money he will go apologize. Dad's not paying for this to bail him out."
Side-effects emerge after approval for many U.S. drugs
Almost one-third of new drugs approved by U.S. regulators over a decade ended up years later with warnings about unexpected, sometimes life-threatening side -effects or complications, a new analysis found.
Nick and Vanessa Lachey Solidify Their Status as People's Most Beautiful Family
Nick and Vanessa Lachey turned the Janie and Jack launch party in LA into a sweet family affair when they stepped out with their two kids, 2-year-old daughter Brooklyn and 4-year-old son Camden. The adorable foursome appeared to have the best time as they huddled together for photos and made silly faces for the cameras. Missing from the fun, though, was the pair's nearly 5-month-old son, Phoenix, who was recently featured with the whole family in People's annual World's Most Beautiful issue. The brood was crowned one of the magazine's most beautiful families, and based on their precious family photos on Instagram, we couldn't agree more. In the magazine, Nick opened up about his family life, explaining that family "is the single biggest priority, they always come first." The event also brought out Tia Mowry and son Cree and Alison Sweeney and daughter Megan.
1 Female Legislator's "White Male" Comment Sent These White Males Spinning
When Minnesota House members met to discuss a bill regarding harsh penalties for protesters that block major roads, Melissa Hortman, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor minority leader, noticed that some of her colleagues were missing. During the meeting, Democratic state Rep. Ilhan Omar gave a speech about the bill. She explained that if these harsh penalties were in order, movements like Black Lives Matter would not exist, but Hortman wasn't satisfied with lack of legislators on the floor.
Hortman pointed out that not only were her male colleagues not present to hear Omar's speech, but they also missed other amazing speeches made by women opposing the bill because they were in the retiring room . . . and she did not hold back with these thoughts. "I hate to break up the 100 percent white male card game in the retiring room, but I think this is an important debate," Hortman said.
As expected, her comment did not sit well with some of the male legislators, especially Republican Rep. Bob Dettmer. "I'm a white male," he said. "I respect everybody. But I really believe the comments that were made by the minority leader were really not appropriate. Minority leader, would you apologize to the body?" Hortman refused to back down.
"I have no intention of apologizing," Hortman said. "I am so tired of watching Rep. Susan Allen give an amazing speech, Rep. Peggy Flanagan give an amazing speech; watching Rep. Jamie Becker-Finn give an amazing speech, Rep. Rena Moran give the most heartfelt, incredible speech I've heard on this House floor as long as I can remember; watching Rep. Ilhan Omar give an amazing speech, and looking around to see where are my colleagues?"
She added: "And I went in the retiring room and I saw where a bunch of my colleagues were, and I'm really tired of watching women of color, in particular, being ignored. So, I'm not sorry." If we were there, this would be the moment we burst out into applause.
But Dettmer was not alone in feeling offended by Hortman's statement during the meeting. Republican Rep. Greg Davids told a local Minnesota publication that he believes she should resign for her "racist" comment. "I was greatly offended by Hortman's racist statement about white males," he told the Post-Bulletin. "I believe her comments have created a very hostile working environment."
Watch the video above to see how the House members handled Hortman's comment about sexism in the courtroom.

Tear Gas Grenades Didn't Stop This Venezuelan Protestor From Playing the National Anthem
Protests against the left-wing, teetering-on-a-dictatorship government have continued to rock Venezuela. The crisis, which began roughly three years ago, has descended into chaos. In recent weeks, antigovernment activists have encountered a violent response from the military; since demonstrations reignited in the last month, 37 people have been killed. Yet amid the upheaval, an ardent love of country persists among the protesters, and a haunting video of a young man playing the national anthem - while tear gas grenades detonate around him - exemplifies their passion.
Hoy vi una verdadera muestra de realismo mágico. Un manifestante tocaba su violín mientras la PNB lanzaba lacrimógenas y perdigones http://pic.twitter.com/Xhg7NNBkX8
- Iván Ernesto Reyes (@IvanEReyes) May 8, 2017
The powerful moment was captured by local journalist Iván Ernesto Reyes and shared on Twitter. The young man's face is unidentifiable and covered, but his youth is apparent. The video is especially poignant given the death of another violinist protesting at the end of April.
Reyes spoke to CNN about the video and explained how it came about. "There he was, standing, playing the Venezuelan anthem, and with a couple of kids that were around him, sort of protecting him," Reyes told CNN. "There were bombs, tear gas, and repression, but he kept playing his violin. He did not stop."
In the Twitter post describing the violinist's song, Reyes termed the event as magical realism. "Today I witnessed a true example of magical realism. A protester played his violin while the (national guards) threw tear gas and pellets," Reyes said.

Things I Learned at Chrissy Teigen's Palette Launch - and No, She Didn't Get "Extensive Plastic Surgery"
Here's the deal: I got to meet my Twitter queen Chrissy Teigen and help her celebrate the launch of the Becca Cosmetics Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette ($46) by getting an early preview and learning about how it all came to fruition. I also learned a few things she absolutely hates when it comes to makeup, because if there's one thing you can bet on from Chrissy, it's that she'll speak her mind.
Chrissy collaborated with makeup artist Mary Phillips (who also works with Jennifer Lopez!) on every part of the palette. She was clear on a few things - namely, she didn't want the whole thing to be too sparkly or overly shimmery. She wanted it to be easy for everyone to use at home, and she worried that with too much shimmer, people might go crazy and end up looking like a disco ball. The palette, which includes a bronzer, a blush, and two highlighters (one rose gold and one apricot), worried her a bit because she felt the blush was too bright. Because the palette leans more bronze, she and Mary worked to sheer out the pigment of the coral blush so it was complementary to the other pieces of the palette.
The palette focuses on warmer tones instead of cool tones, which makes sense: Chrissy has a warm complexion. Mary explained that it isn't too gold, though, and it's definitely not cool or silver, meaning if you're fair complected or have a deeper tone, it will still work for you. You can sheer out everything if you're fair and layer it if you're deep complected.
As for her dislikes, Chrissy was quick to lay down the law on a few trending makeup and beauty looks.
Liner on her lower waterline
The model and author explained that she lets Mary do whatever she wants when it comes to makeup, but the one stipulation is she cannot add anything insider her lower waterline.
Lip masks
"Waste of f*cking money," she said. "Don't get them."
Washing her face before bed
The model told us that she has "never washed her face before bed." She'll "rip off her eyelashes" but doesn't remove her makeup. And yet her skin is still perfect, which could be attributed to her esthetician, Shani Darden. We can only dream of this type of luck.
Insane Instagram highlighting
"I don't want to be a hater, but I am," she said. "I see all the Instagram posts, and I did not want to look like those girls that just look silver. Do you don't have to be a slay queen just because you look like a silver zorbot. That look is done. I'm tired of silver cheekbones and nose. And I'm f*cking over strobing!" Chrissy later added she has no idea what a zorbot is, but you get her drift.
Armpit fat
She probably doesn't hate it, per se, but when asked about the craziest beauty treatment she received, she admitted that she "sucked her armpits" about nine years ago to get rid of fat pockets.
Also, it's been reported that Chrissy underwent "major plastic surgery," and it's simply not true. The statement was largely taken out of context.
This is what happened: Chrissy brought up that everyone thinks her cheeks are fake. She clarified that they are not, but joked that "everything else is." She did point to her forehead and her mouth area, which I interpreted as referring to getting Botox in her forehead and her veneers. This is something she's been very open about in the past. There was no discussion of extensive plastic face or body surgery. In fact, the only plastic surgery brought up was the aforementioned armpit liposuction - and playfully mentioning her mother's nose job.
Now that that's cleared up, I have to say I haven't been happier with a palette in a very long time. I want to look dewy and glowy when I apply highlighter, and even with some Becca products, I feel like the highlight isn't as sheer or natural as I'd like it to be. This is a palette you can wear to work, running errands, brunch, a big event, breastfeeding your child - doesn't matter what it is, you can wear it and feel natural while doing so.
My Polar Opposite Became My Husband - and I'm SO Glad
I scroll through my Instagram over 10 times a day, constantly Snapchat stories and catch Pokémon, all in a days work, and my partner hasn't changed his Facebook profile picture in over a year. My ideal dinner consists of sashimi and his, porterhouse. While I obsess about how good One Direction is, he jams out to Iron Maiden or Pantera. I spend my free time wandering and exploring and he has a special relationship with our couch. He loves comedies, and the majority of my shows contain suspense and plenty of drama. He has a love affair with the movie theater, and I live for my frequent flier mileage program. This is my life, but it works for me.
Think about your best friends for a moment and all the common interests you share with them. I didn't marry my best friend, nor do I wish I had. Don't get me wrong, I love my best friend, but there is something entirely separate about a friendship and romantic relationship and the affect of being opposites and carbon copies of one another. I believe there is a common misconception that partners must share a majority of similarities in order to be successful. If anyone knows this isn't true, it's me. I could make you a Christmas length list of all the things I don't share in common with my husband; and that list continues to grow. And you know what, we're happier because of it. As much as I love myself, I couldn't date someone just like me.
Dating or being married to your polar opposite is no easy feat, but I must say having my polar opposite turn from boyfriend and eventually into husband has taught me plenty of life lessons (cough, cough - lots of compromise!) along the way. We are completely unalike and entirely in love. Here are six reasons having an opposite partner rocks.
1. You will know you do not have a surface-level relationship.
When my husband and I only had one TV in our apartment, we were forced to watch the same thing, and most of the time it was subtitled Kung Fu films or WWII documentaries, while all I wanted to do was watch Girls. I am not going to lie, he knows some really kickass Netflix, HBO, and Showtime series and is Dark Zone level 50 (if you don't know what that is, bless your heart), but we don't share any of those interests together as a couple. Not to say we haven't tried, but it just doesn't work, but that does not mean our love does not work for us. When it comes time to order Seamless, my cursor hovers over the Japanese restaurant and his over the last burrito he ordered. As frustrating and annoying as it is, we have cultivated such curiosity and respect for one another over time due to our differences. To this point, we have inadvertently introduced each other to new bands, podcasts, restaurants, thought processes, experiences, and Netflix series (whether we like it or not!), and we are able to share in this growth together. Let's be honest, enjoying sushi together while watching Silicon Valley can only last so long . . .
2. Type A and Type B motivate one another.
Like a battery, not the blood types. If you put the two plus sides together, the battery does not function, similar to a relationship. Me, I am classic Type A; I constantly stress over everything, no detail is too small. My husband is routine driven, likes to know what to expect at all times, and nothing ever bothers him. I constantly think 15 moves into the future and am always bugging him about plans in our calendar two months out or our long-term goals. Meanwhile, he hasn't even figured out what he is having for dinner. But if we both didn't know what was for dinner or what we we're going to be doing down the road, we would be the definition of hot messes. The best part of it all? We motivate each other without even knowing it. He doesn't even have to try to calm me down, he is naturally calm and therefore by osmosis, I begin to be too.
3. It will challenge you.
"If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything" (Alexander Hamilton) my husband's favorite quote and the bane of my existence. I swear he was born a lawyer, constantly arguing his point, his side, and his opinion. Naturally, partners are bound to disagree and stomp away furiously thinking, "If this person were more similar to me, they would just see my side and we wouldn't even be having this fight"? But through the argument, it will cause you to think about points you have never even thought of before or better yet, reconfirm and strengthen your own views. My husband and I don't see eye to eye on politics, composting, recycling, supernatural forces, you name it, we don't agree. But we have our reasons, so allow yourself to be swayed or stick by your long-standing thoughts. What about if you are a start-up queen and your partner is a corporate powerhouse? You may not live and breathe the day-to-day actions as your partner, but you will gain an understanding of a life completely separate of your own and possibly freshen and challenge your own ways of thinking, personally and professionally.
In the end, you may end up agreeing to disagree but at least it becomes yet another chance to learn about your partner . . . and yourself.
4. You will have your own in-house therapist.
You already know how you intend to solve a problem; you have been doing it for 30-something years on your own, why stop now? But it's always nice to have another point of view, that person to offer a different version that you have never thought of. Sometimes we are so stuck inside our own heads that our partners are the best soundboard for those situations in which you can't see outside of your general mind frame.
5. Personal growth.
No one stays the same over time; we will always continue to grow, in our relationships and beyond. When your partner is opposite you, it's highly likely they possess traits and qualities that you admire in which you end up adapting into your own life. Personally I live with the YOLO travel mentality and my husband never understood why I had such a strong drive to want to see every inch of the world. After six years of my constant rationalization of our world travels, I think he finally understands it and has adapted my philosophy to his personal life. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, even better when it's your partner!
6. You will (rarely) ever get bored.
Nobody wants to be bored and let's be honest, relationships can get stale quick. Not saying you will like everything your partner picks, but you won't be bored on the ride! If date night were up to me, we would be having cocktails on the roof of a hot spot and not eating at a hole in the wall German restaurant where there are games like shuffleboard and buck hunter, which is his haven. If I weren't married to him, I would likely never know about certain places or experience certain moments because of my own lifestyle choices. Embracing spontaneity and getting out of your comfort zone makes for great relationships!
So if you are dating your opposite, embrace all the wonderful things you are inadvertently learning rather than focusing on the arguments and frustrations. I may not know exactly why opposites attract initially, but there is no doubt that married or dating opposites have incredibly fulfilling relationships. At the end of the day, a successful relationship is about learning to love what makes you different and lets be honest, you can join a crew to hunt Pokémon, no need to share that with your partner.
