Thirty-five years after his first success, he's offering advice to the engaged Pippa:

How a Stranger Kept 1 Mom Alone With Twin Babies From Being Kicked Off a Flight
What was supposed to be a simple flight for Mackenzie Murphy turned into an incredibly long day, and this woman wasn't even traveling with an infant. But the mom sitting a couple of aisles in front of Mackenzie wasn't as lucky, as she was hit with multiple problems while trying to fly alone with her twin babies, who Mackenzie estimates were likely under 6 months old.
Mackenzie described the scenario, explaining that because the flight was packed, airline staff began taking carry-on luggage to store under the plane. "A gate worker took this woman's car seat, meaning she would now have to hold both babies since they weren't old enough to sit up on their own in a seat," Mackenzie shared with the Love What Matters Facebook page. "When she sat down on the plane, a flight attendant immediately told her she couldn't hold both babies, and would have to leave the flight."
Before this mom could gather her babies and her things, a stranger sitting in front of Mackenzie volunteered to hold one of the babies during the entire flight. However, before they could even start their 45-minute flight, the plane ended up being stuck on the runway for two and half hours.
"Without a complaint this woman fed the other woman's baby and burped him," Mackenzie wrote. "Her own daughter started crying. This mom, so calmly, went on to explain to her young daughter that 'Our job is to help other people. This mom is all by herself with no help, and really needs another mom to help.'"
This kind woman continued to restore Mackenzie's faith in humanity as she went on to sing the baby songs and snuggle him as he slept. "My heart still feels fuzzy," she wrote. "Moral of the story is when you see people needing help, do the right thing and help them."

A Millennial Mom's Thank-You Letter to "the Village"
We moms get a lot of credit. Much of it is deserved, which is why I do not contest being celebrated once a year (that's it?!) on Mother's Day. I live for that one day where everyone - from my toddler to my husband to my own mother to the waiter serving me my second mimosa at brunch - tips their hats to the bang-up job I'm doing as a mom.
But as much as I'd like to take all the credit (and if you asked my husband, I do), I know for a fact that I wouldn't even resemble a human, nevermind a fully functioning one raising two kids, without my support system. Without my village.
These days, people opine that "the village" is dead. That, thanks to our generation up and moving away from "home" and using smartphones, we no longer have a built-in community surrounding us with love. On some level it's true - there are mornings I wake up kicking myself for living so far from my parents and siblings. But with a combination of effort and mostly luck, I've managed to mod-podge a "millennial version" of the village that I'd be lost without.
To them, I want to say thank you.

Here's How Anyone Can Run For Office (Including You!)

In the wake of Donald Trump's election, many people felt the need to make their voices heard. For some, protests such as the Women's March were their first outlet for expressing their concerns about the new president. But after that visceral first reaction, the question became: now what?
One of the most direct ways to make your voice heard and make an impact is to run for office, but many ordinary citizens are intimidated by the idea. We talked to some experts and put together a few guidelines to help people understand what it means to run for office and which resources are available to them.
Step 1: Find Out Which Public Office Positions Are Open Near You
Running for office doesn't have to mean running for mayor or Congress. There are many local positions citizens can run for, such as city councils and school boards. These positions are arguably less intimidating than federal public offices, but they remain essential to shaping policies and giving a voice to others who may share your concerns.
The problem is, these elections are typically much less publicized, and just finding out about them can be a challenge. Fortunately, resources like Run For Office are working to make it easier by building a database that lists all the upcoming elections in your district, along with details about the application process and filing deadlines. However, the database is still a work in progress, relying on volunteers and crowdsourcing to complete the information.
"It's such a monumental effort," said Gina Davis, vice president of professional services at the software company NationBuilder and one of the people heading Run For Office. "No one knows how many elected positions there are in the country, but it's estimated at over 500,000. Getting the data for those positions in the various different parts of the country is quite the effort."
"The number of elected offices is pretty incredible," Davis added. "There are places in Massachusetts where you can run for dog catcher. People don't know about them, people aren't running for them, and so many of them end up uncontested or, even worse, appointed if no one runs." Sites like Run For Office are a great place to start to get a comprehensive view of which public offices are available to you.
Step 2: Figure Out What Really Matters to You
Once you've researched your options, it's time to reflect on what issues matter the most to you and how you could contribute and change policy for the better.
"Consider what you're passionate about," advised Alexandra De Luca, deputy press secretary at Emily's List, an organization that helps pro-choice Democratic women run for office. "Do you want to improve public schools in your community? Do you want to ensure that the water in your community is drinkable? Do you want to defend voting rights for all Americans? Do you want to make sure that Muslims and other minorities in this country are kept safe?"

Thinking about your priorities, or why you want to run for office, can not only help you decide which public office to set your sights on, but it can also help you begin to articulate what you can contribute in a way that other people (potential voters) can relate to.
Davis suggested people ask themselves, "What is the thing that you'd like to accomplish? How is it that you want to lead and make a difference? How do you want to lead your district? Put your thoughts and ideas into words, in a way that allows you to connect with other people who may be feeling the same."
Whatever you choose, make sure it's something you really care about, as that will be a deciding factor in whether you are able to run successfully.
"We believe all women are qualified to run for office if they are passionate about their community, and if there are issues with which they want to engage in order to fight back," said De Luca. "Women run for two reasons: when they want to fix something or when they're mad as hell. That's what it takes: passion, drive, and determination."
Step 3: Contact Organizations That Can Help You
Once you've thought through your options and made some preliminary decisions, it's time to reach out directly to organizations whose goal is to help ordinary, inexperienced citizens run for office. There are many resources available to you, and these groups are here to give you support and information, no matter how green you are.
For example, Run For Office offers free online training that covers the basics of the process.
"We provide free online courses that actually break down some of the specifics about running for office," said Davis. "Like, 'You need 50 percent of the vote, plus one. Historically, 200-300 people in this district have voted, so that's 150 people you need to reach.' Just understanding that makes it a whole lot less daunting. It's a lot less intimidating."
Run For Office also provides its candidates with lists of registered voters for their districts, so that candidates know exactly who to contact, and how.
Emily's List has had significant success in its 32 years of existence. Indeed, it has helped 23 women get elected to the Senate - including Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren - and 116 to the House, plus 800 at the state and local levels and 12 governors. Over 40 percent of these elected officials belonged to a minority group. The group's accumulated experience, resources, and network can significantly help a political novice.
"Emily's List can help you learn how to actually run a campaign, can get you in touch with folks who have been running campaigns in your community for decades," said De Luca. "It can help you learn how to fundraise, teach you how to write a press release."
There are many other organizations that want to bring new people into politics, especially those who are currently underrepresented. She Should Run is another group that aims to get more women into politics. Run For Something aims to recruit young progressives to run for office, in order to renew the Democratic party from the roots up.
Step 4: Put In the Time to Network and Reach Out
While all these organizations have a network of resources already in place, running for office eventually means creating your own network and connecting with people by highlighting your own qualities and background. This means attending events and talking to people.
"We encourage any woman who is looking to run for office to go to local Democratic party meetings, city council meetings, and volunteer opportunities," said De Luca. "Show up and participate in causes that you care about. Not only will you be giving back to your community, but you'll also be expanding your network and meeting people in your community that care about the issues you care about."
"If you run for office, you're going to have to share your story with people who are presumably going to vote for you," she added. "People don't only want to know why you're running for office but also what your story is. If you're a single mom who really struggled with being able to provide for her family and also juggle jobs at the same time, that's a really powerful experience that a lot of women in your community, and men as well, can identify with."
It's likely that many people are discouraged from running for office by the idea that it's a time-consuming endeavor. Organizations are working to dispel the notion that running for office is any different from other forms of civic or community engagement.
"If it matters to you, and it's a thing that you value, you're going to find the time," said Davis. "Being involved in the politics in your environment, your neighborhood, your community is no more involved than making that same choice to be really involved in your PTA, or the neighborhood watch, or whatever other type of additional work you might take on."
This strategy of demystifying running for office, coupled with the strong opposition against President Trump, seems to be working: since the election, over 10,000 women have contacted Emily's List, expressing interest in either volunteering or running for office. Here's How Anyone Can Run For Office (Including You!)

In the wake of Donald Trump's election, many people felt the need to make their voices heard. For some, protests such as the Women's March were their first outlet for expressing their concerns about the new president. But after that visceral first reaction, the question became: now what?
One of the most direct ways to make your voice heard and make an impact is to run for office, but many ordinary citizens are intimidated by the idea. We talked to some experts and put together a few guidelines to help people understand what it means to run for office and which resources are available to them.
Step 1: Find Out Which Public Office Positions Are Open Near You
Running for office doesn't have to mean running for mayor or Congress. There are many local positions citizens can run for, such as city councils and school boards. These positions are arguably less intimidating than federal public offices, but they remain essential to shaping policies and giving a voice to others who may share your concerns.
The problem is, these elections are typically much less publicized, and just finding out about them can be a challenge. Fortunately, resources like Run For Office are working to make it easier by building a database that lists all the upcoming elections in your district, along with details about the application process and filing deadlines. However, the database is still a work in progress, relying on volunteers and crowdsourcing to complete the information.
"It's such a monumental effort," said Gina Davis, vice president of professional services at the software company NationBuilder and one of the people heading Run For Office. "No one knows how many elected positions there are in the country, but it's estimated at over 500,000. Getting the data for those positions in the various different parts of the country is quite the effort."
"The number of elected offices is pretty incredible," Davis added. "There are places in Massachusetts where you can run for dog catcher. People don't know about them, people aren't running for them, and so many of them end up uncontested or, even worse, appointed if no one runs." Sites like Run For Office are a great place to start to get a comprehensive view of which public offices are available to you.
Step 2: Figure Out What Really Matters to You
Once you've researched your options, it's time to reflect on what issues matter the most to you and how you could contribute and change policy for the better.
"Consider what you're passionate about," advised Alexandra De Luca, deputy press secretary at Emily's List, an organization that helps pro-choice Democratic women run for office. "Do you want to improve public schools in your community? Do you want to ensure that the water in your community is drinkable? Do you want to defend voting rights for all Americans? Do you want to make sure that Muslims and other minorities in this country are kept safe?"

Thinking about your priorities, or why you want to run for office, can not only help you decide which public office to set your sights on, but it can also help you begin to articulate what you can contribute in a way that other people (potential voters) can relate to.
Davis suggested people ask themselves, "What is the thing that you'd like to accomplish? How is it that you want to lead and make a difference? How do you want to lead your district? Put your thoughts and ideas into words, in a way that allows you to connect with other people who may be feeling the same."
Whatever you choose, make sure it's something you really care about, as that will be a deciding factor in whether you are able to run successfully.
"We believe all women are qualified to run for office if they are passionate about their community, and if there are issues with which they want to engage in order to fight back," said De Luca. "Women run for two reasons: when they want to fix something or when they're mad as hell. That's what it takes: passion, drive, and determination."
Step 3: Contact Organizations That Can Help You
Once you've thought through your options and made some preliminary decisions, it's time to reach out directly to organizations whose goal is to help ordinary, inexperienced citizens run for office. There are many resources available to you, and these groups are here to give you support and information, no matter how green you are.
For example, Run For Office offers free online training that covers the basics of the process.
"We provide free online courses that actually break down some of the specifics about running for office," said Davis. "Like, 'You need 50 percent of the vote, plus one. Historically, 200-300 people in this district have voted, so that's 150 people you need to reach.' Just understanding that makes it a whole lot less daunting. It's a lot less intimidating."
Run For Office also provides its candidates with lists of registered voters for their districts, so that candidates know exactly who to contact, and how.
Emily's List has had significant success in its 32 years of existence. Indeed, it has helped 23 women get elected to the Senate - including Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren - and 116 to the House, plus 800 at the state and local levels and 12 governors. Over 40 percent of these elected officials belonged to a minority group. The group's accumulated experience, resources, and network can significantly help a political novice.
"Emily's List can help you learn how to actually run a campaign, can get you in touch with folks who have been running campaigns in your community for decades," said De Luca. "It can help you learn how to fundraise, teach you how to write a press release."
There are many other organizations that want to bring new people into politics, especially those who are currently underrepresented. She Should Run is another group that aims to get more women into politics. Run For Something aims to recruit young progressives to run for office, in order to renew the Democratic party from the roots up.
Step 4: Put In the Time to Network and Reach Out
While all these organizations have a network of resources already in place, running for office eventually means creating your own network and connecting with people by highlighting your own qualities and background. This means attending events and talking to people.
"We encourage any woman who is looking to run for office to go to local Democratic party meetings, city council meetings, and volunteer opportunities," said De Luca. "Show up and participate in causes that you care about. Not only will you be giving back to your community, but you'll also be expanding your network and meeting people in your community that care about the issues you care about."
"If you run for office, you're going to have to share your story with people who are presumably going to vote for you," she added. "People don't only want to know why you're running for office but also what your story is. If you're a single mom who really struggled with being able to provide for her family and also juggle jobs at the same time, that's a really powerful experience that a lot of women in your community, and men as well, can identify with."
It's likely that many people are discouraged from running for office by the idea that it's a time-consuming endeavor. Organizations are working to dispel the notion that running for office is any different from other forms of civic or community engagement.
"If it matters to you, and it's a thing that you value, you're going to find the time," said Davis. "Being involved in the politics in your environment, your neighborhood, your community is no more involved than making that same choice to be really involved in your PTA, or the neighborhood watch, or whatever other type of additional work you might take on."
This strategy of demystifying running for office, coupled with the strong opposition against President Trump, seems to be working: since the election, over 10,000 women have contacted Emily's List, expressing interest in either volunteering or running for office. 1. Opposites Attract: Look for a sunglass shape that is the opposite shape of your face. For example, if your face is rounder, look for a square or rectangular sunglass.

Do you know whose input and support was glaringly absent from the American Health Care Act, a bill that could negatively impact millions of women? You guessed it! Women.
The American Health Care Act, a bill labeling sexual assault and C-sections as preexisting conditions, was passed last week with 217 "yes" votes coming from men and only five from women. And to make matters worse, the Senate GOP followed suit with yet another embarrassingly sexist move, forming a healthcare panel to rewrite the American Health Care Act without adding a single woman to the decision-making group - again.
So who is on this newly formed GOP panel, you ask? Well, it's made up of 13 men . . . and a whopping total of zero women.
Comedian Michelle Wolf recently appeared on The Daily Show to hilariously explain precisely what is wrong with the GOP's misogynistic approach to health care and even came prepared with her own strategy to run these men out of Washington entirely. Wolf opened up her segment by first comparing the American Health Care Act to a line from a Notorious B.I.G. song ("f*ck b*tches, get money"), before ripping into the GOP bill's attempt to turn irregular periods into a preexisting condition. "Quick glimpse into a lady's life - every period is an irregular period," Wolf said. "It's not like a paycheck where it arrives at the same time every month. Your period is more like an outdoor cat. You know it's gonna come back at some point, but you're not sure when, and you have no idea what it's gonna have in its mouth. The only thing regular about a period is that it sucks."
Wolf concluded by outlining her strategy to freak out men in government: show up to Washington and talk about our periods until they all hightail it out of town. "We just need to go into Congress and talk about periods. The men will disappear like a boner when you smell Grandma. And then us women can handle this sh*t ourselves." Sounds like a solid plan.
Why It Took Queen Elizabeth II 5 Days to Publicly Address Princess Diana's Death

It's been nearly 20 years since Princess Diana's fatal car accident in Paris, and the upcoming anniversary of her death has sparked renewed interest in the tragic event. When news broke that Diana had died in August 1997, Queen Elizabeth II was highly criticized for the way she handled the situation. Many accused her of failing to capture the mood of the nation and faulted her for being aloof in the days following her former daughter-in-law's passing. The queen conveyed a "business-as-usual" message by taking Diana's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry (who were 15 and 12, respectively, at the time), to church at Balmoral in Scotland hours after Prince Charles had broken the news to them. She was also criticized for remaining at her Scotland residence for too long, failing to appear at tributes near Buckingham Palace, and not returning quickly enough to London.

However, according to the queen's first cousin and close friend Margaret Rhodes, the queen's choice to temporarily abandon the people was due to her overwhelming concern for the welfare of her grandchildren, William and Harry. In an interview with CNN back in 2012, Margaret came to the queen's defense, saying, "She was castigated . . . for staying up at Balmoral with the two little boys. She was being a proper granny. What was the point of bringing the boys down to sit in London with nothing to do but sit there feeling sad about mum. Personally, I think I would have behaved in exactly the same way."
It was only when then-Prime Minister Tony Blair intervened that Elizabeth came back to London and acknowledged the public's outpouring of grief. "She made it all right in the end by coming down and looking at all the flowers," Margaret stated. Five days after Diana's death, Elizabeth delivered a live address to the people of England from the Chinese Dining Room at Buckingham Palace. She paid tribute to Diana, calling her "an exceptional and gifted human being," and explained her reason for being at Balmoral, saying, "This week at Balmoral, we have all been trying to help William and Harry come to terms with the devastating loss that they and the rest of us have suffered." She ended her speech with a touching statement: "May those who died rest in peace and may we, each and every one of us, thank God for someone who made many, many people happy." Ellie Kemper Doesn't Understand 3/4 of the Jokes on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
In a hotel room in downtown NYC, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt costars Tituss Burgess and Ellie Kemper fawn over each other's outfits and embrace in a hug before sitting down to catch up on life. They haven't seen each other since wrapping the third season of their hit Netflix series, but they've still kept in touch. "We text all the time, but neither of us can be bothered too," Burgess jokes. Now that Kemper is a mom, it's hard to get some time to herself, let alone make plans to hang out. After about three minutes of back and forth, the two finally come to a mutual agreement that they should just watch a series at the same time and text about it.
As I listen to their conversation from across the table, it's like I'm watching an episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. "This is my b*tch," Burgess says, nodding to Kemper - and the sentiment is mutual. "It's so weird because I do think when we met each other, it was like, 'Oh, I know you,'" Kemper adds.
Their real-life chemistry translates on screen, too. While their characters come from completely different backgrounds, their differences ultimately bring them closer. "They help each other be better people, whatever that is," Ellie says. "I think that's why that relationship works, because they're just flawed people who try to fill in the gaps for each other." And as their characters set out to right some wrongs during season three, they will lean on each other more than ever. As Titus tries to overcome his breakup with Mikey by channeling his inner Beyoncé and Lemonading (yes, as a verb), Kimmy will come to the frustrating realization that there isn't always a right and wrong answer for every situation. "Everything is not black and white. I mean, this is black and white," she says, jokingly pointing to herself and Burgess in classic Kimmy Schmidt form. "There are so many shades of gray." But that doesn't stop her from trying to take on the world, every single time.
In today's society, that portrayal of female empowerment on TV is more important than ever. As the show's theme song firmly puts it: "females are strong as hell." While there are many strong male leads, which Kemper argues shouldn't be overlooked, it's the women who run the show, literally. Not only does Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star a woman, but it was also cocreated by a woman (Tina Fey, who will reprise her guest-starring role as psychiatrist Andrea Bayden in season three). "What I've always liked about the way Kimmy was written and the way she was created is that she's very girlie," Kemper says. "She loves traditionally girlie-type things, but she's so unbelievably tough, but it's not at odds with her girlishness. She doesn't have to have one without the other."
While the show focuses on some heavy issues at times (hello, the main character was trapped in a bunker for 15 years), it does so in the most lighthearted way, which is in large part due to Fey and Robert Carlock's incredible writing. The jokes are so witty and fast that as you're laughing at one line, you end up missing the next one. Even though Kemper and Burgess appreciate Fey and Carlock's brilliance, most of the time they don't understand three-fourths of the pop culture references. Kemper admits that she once googled a reference, and not even Google knew the answer. "They're so smart that it's almost annoying," Burgess jokes. But that's just one of the many reasons we keep coming back season after season.

Moms Protest After Nursing Photo Was Denied Entry Into a Mother's Day Contest

Update: Since Ashley Franks shared a screen grab of a message exchange in which Governor's Square Mall denied her photo's entry into a Mother's Day contest on social media, the fact that her photo was rejected because in it she's breastfeeding her children has spread worldwide. Other mothers in the Clarksville, TN, area are supporting Franks by protesting at the mall in the form of a "nurse-in," which took place in front of a Victoria's Secret store window featuring a poster of a model in a bra and underwear.
Original Story: When Ashley Franks saw her local mall post to Facebook about a Mother's Day photo contest, she followed the instructions and sent them a direct message containing a photo of her and her kids to be entered to win one of three $100 mall gift cards. The photo she chose, a beautiful snap of her nursing her two children taken by Iron Lace Photography, was denied entry just four hours later.
"We are so sorry we cannot accept this photo," wrote a representative for the Governor's Square Mall in response to Ashley's direct message submission. "Although it is tasteful, we have received some photos of this nature that have no been tasteful. To keep things fair, we have decided not to accept any breastfeeding photos. Would you mind submitting another photo? We apologize for the inconvenience!"
A frustrated Ashley shared a screen grab of the message with Kristy, moderator of the Breastfeeding Mama Talk Facebook page, saying: "I submitted this photo to my local mall's annual Mother's Day photo contest and this was the response I received. I feel so defeated. I have been fighting this fight for far too long. Encouragement is needed." Kristy posted her photo, writing: "This is unacceptable. How can you run a Mother's Day contest and deny a photo of a mom doing one of the most motherly acts a mom could do? This is not acceptable and I really hope they do the right thing!"
She is urging her page's followers to share this image of Ashely and her babes, which is juxtaposed with the screen grab. "Let's all band together and let them know that breastfeeding moms are not gonna tolerate being shunned," she wrote. "You can help by sharing this and leaving supportive comments. Let's refrain from leaving any reviews at this time. I want to give them a chance to correct their wrong. I will be staying in touch with the mama and will update you all as needed. Thanks!"
Despite Kristy's suggestion, the comment section of the mall's original post has been inundated with mothers sticking up for Ashley, some even sharing their own photos of themselves breastfeeding their children. "How disgusting of you to sexualize breastfeeding to the point where you can call some photos tasteful and some not," one commenter wrote. "Mothers doing the thing their breasts were designed for is beautiful, and you should be ashamed of your ridiculous rule."

It seems to me that most will be deeply satisfied by Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen+, as I am.
Its purpose is two-fold. It features broad spectrum SPF 35 protection with chemical sunscreens to provide defense from UVA/UVB rays. However, it's also loaded with tons of antioxidants, including vitamin E, vitamin P (flavonoids), broccoli, and aloe leaf extracts to shield your skin from free radicals and pollution.
The benefits are obviously stellar, but it's the formula itself that makes it stand out. If you are looking for a completely odorless SPF, this formula is not it. Invisible Shield has a subtle citrus aroma that fades as quickly as the product dries, leaving behind a classic (albeit light) sunscreen smell. It's also a little on the pricey side, however, its texture and feel are so satisfying that I doubt its scent will keep you from buying it. I personally plan on using this Glossier launch all Summer long and hope that a full-body formula is in the works!
