10 Tips For Using Hot Rollers - According to Hair Pros

Image Source: StockSnap / Markus Spiske

Beachy waves are here to stay, but if you're not handy with a curling iron, don't worry. Consider hot rollers instead. These aren't your momma's hot rollers from the '80s. Today's rollers are super easy to use and give a big, bouncy wave plus tons of volume.

Hot rollers are more forgiving than a curling iron, and while you're waiting for the rollers to cool, you can move on to something else, such as applying makeup. There's a wide variety of rollers on the market, from basic ones from Remington ($20) or the pricier Chi rollers ($85).

To get the most out of your rollers, follow these top 10 tips from stylists.

  1. "Do not use rollers smaller than 1.5 inches in diameter for a more modern curl size. The larger, the better for softer waves." - Jill Engelsen, senior stylist at Butterfly Studio Salon in New York
  2. "Make sure that your hair is properly dry before you use the hot rollers. A good blow dry first will help the outside surface layer of the hair, the cuticle, to lay flat, which gives your finished look more volume, and the style should hold for longer. Use some lightweight styling serum for heat protection." - Vernon Francois hair care team

  1. "I start wrapping the hot roller from midstrand. I feel if you start wrapping from ends they have a tendency to get too much curl. As I get to the bottom, I tuck the end of the strand around the roller, and I use the butterfly-looking clip to hold them in place." - Elvin Arvelo, owner of Oon Arvelo Salon in New York
  2. "Use a thermal protector before using the hot rollers. This will help hold the shape without stiffness. One of my favorites is the Kérastase Paris L'incroyable Blowdry ($40). I also suggest not using a ton of hairspray prior to wrapping them. Hairspray will cause the rollers to stick and make a huge mess." - Kérastase consulting hairstylist Matt Fugate
  1. "An easy way to apply rollers is to part your hair in a mohawk style. Create three large sections and apply rollers straight down the middle. Then proceed to add rollers to the sides." - Dark and Lovely style squad member Stephanie McLemore
  2. "If you want the hair to push away from the face, the roller should be rolled toward one's face. If you would like your hair to be wavy, roll toward your crown. And if you want a style that has no specific part, take your hair from both sides from where your hair normally parts and roll it on one roller." - Paul LeBreque, Paul LeBreque Salon, New York
  3. "If the hair gets too curly, run a flatiron through the strand quickly to release it a bit. Or just flatiron the ends." - Jill Engleson, senior stylist at Butterfly Studio Salon in New York

  1. "For the Marilyn Monroe look, place the hot rollers all over, rolling each piece away from your head, all back off the face. This will leave a more unstructured curl. Give a light spray, let cool, and wind off the hair. Flip hair upside down and brush out with a wide-tooth comb." - Melissa Peverini, Cricket Co. ambassador and celebrity stylist
  2. "Changing the direction of the wrap will help to create more natural/textured looking waves." - Temur of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger salon in New York
  3. "Flip hair over and spray with any texture/beach spray. Shake hair well with your hands to break it up."- Temur of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger salon in New York

The Reason This Woman's OkCupid Date Made Her Delete Her Profile For Good

A young woman, Priya, was browsing some OkCupid profiles when she came across a potential suitor. His profile spoke about his love of travel and the many places he's visited throughout his lifetime. So far, so good - right?

As for his picture, Priya said it didn't really reveal too much about his looks. "He had one of those OkCupid pictures of like, the side of his face looking toward a mountain," she said, adding, "You know those ones." In a series of tweets that have since gone viral, Priya explained how her mysterious suitor ended up being, well . . . let's just say he wasn't as age-appropriate as she would have liked.

Read her entire saga, below.

Despite the initial warning sings, Priya decided to give the man a chance.

Yet another red flag: his profile did not list an age. Since his profile was scarce in other areas, however, Priya excused that little omission.

Priya presented a solution: a harmless coffee date.

Oh, but her mystery wasn't late - he was already there.

So now, Priya realized she was about to sit down for a date with an octogenarian.

As the date wrapped up, things took a turn.

Here's What a Doctor Has to Say About All That Protein You're Eating

High-protein, low-carb diets are often touted as magic cures for those who want to drop a little (or a lot) of extra weight. The Atkins rave of the early 2000s and the more recent hype around the Paleo lifestyle have driven a high-protein movement that gained momentum with media attention and celebrity endorsements. Though some research does suggest that high-protein diets lead to weight loss in the short term, the greater body of evidence indicates that in the long term, these diets may do more harm than good.

One recent study of 34 overweight women asked half the group to eat a typical weight-loss diet containing a standard amount of protein and the other half to follow an otherwise identical diet that contained 50 percent more protein than usual. Both groups succeeded in losing 10 percent of their body weight. But the high-protein group showed no increase in insulin sensitivity, a typical benefit of weight loss that can help decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In other words, the high-protein diet eliminated one of the major favorable side effects of weight loss.

Another much larger study raised even more concerns about the effects of high-protein diets. Researchers in Spain asked over 8,000 men and women - most of whom were already following a Mediterranean diet - to recall, in detail, their daily protein intake. Not only were those who consumed the most protein more likely to gain weight, but they were also twice as likely to die from cardiovascular causes and 48 percent more likely to die from cancer. In an even larger study, in which over 100,000 postmenopausal women were asked to self-report their daily diets, researchers noted that as protein intake increased, the incidence of heart failure doubled.

According to Amy Shapiro, MS, RD, CDN of Real Nutrition NYC, "Eating too much of any food group can be harmful to your health and diet goals. It's about balance." She also points out that Americans eat "way more" protein than they need to; although current recommendations state that the average woman should eat about 45 to 50 grams of protein per day, the typical American woman actually eats around 70 grams daily. And since many of the dangers of excessive dietary protein are thought to be due to animal protein, Shapiro said, "don't underestimate the power of plant protein. Plants provide adequate amounts of protein for any diet if eaten and combined correctly."

As a doctor, I caution my patients against high-protein diets, as I do with any fad diets that are not supported by high-quality clinical studies. Long-term weight loss, and its attendant health benefits, comes from a diet containing a balanced breakdown of macronutrients. Don't overdo it on protein or any food group.

Why This Muslim Passenger Wants to "Commend" JetBlue

Airline horror stories are all too common - including those that involve racist or xenophobic passengers. That's why one Muslim passenger is commending JetBlue for how one of its crews handled an Islamophobic remark on a recent flight.

Ghena Alh shared in a Facebook post on May 10 a recent experience she had on a JetBlue flight flying from Orlando, FL, to LA. She was in Orlando to speak on a "Flying While Muslim" panel, dedicated to teaching JetBlue crew members how to handle discriminatory situations toward Muslim customers. When she boarded the plane on May 9, her seat was in the middle of two passengers who were traveling together. She claims that the person to the right of her was on the phone, telling someone they were separated from the other passenger due to "someone who was 'hint: Twin Towers.'"

Once the plane took off, Alh approached a crew member and asked for a seat change. At first, the flight attendant told her the flight was full and they couldn't. But, Alh says the attendant noticed she was upset and asked her, "Is something wrong?" Alh told her the story and the flight attendant immediately changed her seat. Another crew member came by and gave her a free blanket, travel pillow, and box of food, and continuously asked her throughout the flight how she was doing. You can read Alh's full post ahead.

Alh wrote that when the plane landed, a "security member" listened to her story and another one was telling the lady who made the comment that it wasn't "tolerated by the JetBlue family." The post, which has more than 300 reactions and 100 shares at the time of writing, ended with Alh thanking JetBlue for its handling of the situation and for "turning an unpleasant experience into a very comfortable one."

We've reached out to both Alh and JetBlue for comment and will update if we hear back.

5 Things We Know About 13 Reasons Why Season 2

Before Netflix could even announce whether a second season of 13 Reasons Why was a possibility, viewers divided themselves into two camps: those who wanted more episodes and those who absolutely did not. As of May 7, Netflix is forging ahead with season two, and we already have several key details. Of course, more solid information will trickle in over the next few months, but we're at a good starting place. Here's what we know!

1. The Plot

Before the renewal was finalized, we had a few creative theories about how Netflix could continue Hannah's story . . . it sounds like we're mostly wrong, though. Netflix's official statement says that season two "picks up in the aftermath of Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) death and the start of the characters' complicated journeys toward healing and recovery." Healing and recovery sounds great, but remember how season one ends? There's potential for a whole lot more damage.

Creator Brian Yorkey confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that "it's safe to say we pick up a number of months after the first season ended." He also said Hannah will be back, as they writers will again be weaving the past with the present, that we'll see more of Jessica's story, and that a different person will serve as the narrator. Netflix confirmed all this (and more) with a tweet:

2. The Teaser

The 21-second clip doesn't include any of the main actors, but it does focus on the locations we see in the first season. Liberty High School, The Crestmont, and Baker's Drug Store all flash on screen, meaning we'll probably be revisiting all these places.

3. Who Is Involved?

Creator Brian Yorkey is returning, but we don't yet know if author Jay Asher is helping write the new batch of episodes. In fact, Asher's recent Tweet seems to imply that he won't be involved: "My confident excitement for @13ReasonsWhy Season 2 rests in Brian Yorkey and the mind meld we performed a couple years ago. (And that cast!)" Selena Gomez posted the season two teaser on Instagram, so we can assume she's continuing on as an executive producer. As for the cast, it's very likely that most of them will be back (Ross Butler recently dropped out of Riverdale due to professional conflicts) if the episodes are just a continuation of the first season.

4. What the Cast Has Said

The cast have posted about their excitement for a second season via Twitter and Instagram, but they've remained tight-lipped about what season two could hold. Star Katherine Langford did speak to what she hopes will happen during a red carpet interview with E! News on May 7: "Personally, I would be interested to see more discussion into what's happening afterwards," she said. "It's interesting in the first season we get to see what the characters go through post-Hannah's death. I think Jessica [Alisha Boe] has a really interesting story to tell - and recovery to make."

5. The Premiere Date

Netflix confirmed that the second season will consist of another 13 episodes, which will stream on the site in 2018.

A Teeny-Tiny Request For Strangers Who Mistake the Gender of My Baby

Hey, stranger who wants to pay my adorable baby a compliment, can I bother you for a moment?

I want to ask a small favor of you, but first, let me back up and explain the issue at hand:

I'll be out somewhere with my baby, and you approach. You smile and keep a respectable distance so I know you aren't trying to do that obnoxious thing some people do where they think they can touch a random baby without permission. No, you are one of the good ones.

You say something to the effect of "Your baby is darling!"

Thanks!

But then you hit me with this curveball: "How old is he?"

I freeze with anxiety. See, my baby is a girl. But I don't care whatsoever that you think she's a boy. I don't take it personally, I really don't. I purposefully opted out of dressing her in a pink onesie or accessorizing her baldish head with a frilly bow. And, quite frankly, my baby doesn't look like a girl. She doesn't look like a boy. She looks like a baby.

You had a 50/50 shot and guessed wrong. Still, I'm frozen with how to react.

Here's why.

If I say, "She's 4 months old," I'll look like one of those people who corrects you for inappropriately using "whom." I'll likely make you feel bad for no reason, and you'll profusely apologize: "Oh, I'm so, so sorry! Of course she's a girl. She's beautiful." You'll try to give some excuse for your error, like how you only have nephews or that my baby's hair is so short it threw you off. Then you incessantly apologize more. Most recently, I had a sweet older woman shun herself - "I'm such an idiot, I'm sorry" - before hanging her head and just walking away.

I felt like crap the rest of the day. It seems so did she.

A few times, I decided, what the hell, I'll just go along with it and say, "He's 4 months." (I've even tried a curt "Four months," avoiding the "he" vs. "she" banter entirely.) No harm, no foul, right?

It never fails that when I decide to play fast and loose with reality, there are inevitably follow-up questions: "What's his name?"

In trying to make you feel less awkward, I now look like someone who doesn't know her own kid's name.

At this point, I have to think on my feet, which I'm not good at doing, particularly as a sleep-deprived mom trying to run an errand. "Uh, it's . . . uh . . . Meh . . . Mark!" In trying to make you feel less awkward, I now look like someone who doesn't know her own kid's name. Which means now I'm the one apologizing for being so scatter-brained.

The only other options are A) blowing my cover and admitting that it was all a charade and my baby is a girl but I didn't want to make you feel bad by admitting that, which either makes you feel worse or think I'm insane, or B) pointing to something in the distance behind you and as soon as you turn to see, I run frantically in the other direction.

There's no good outcome.

So, here's that favor I wanted to ask you for the inevitable next time you mistake my baby's gender. (And, not to get all Sociology 101 on you, but babies don't even have a "gender" at this point, and you certainly - I hope - can't see their genitalia, so there's no reason you should be expected to even know if a random baby at the supermarket's sex is male or female . . . at least without a clearly marked sign.)

The next time our conversation meanders down this ill-fated path, please do not apologize for it. Let's just both laugh it off, pat each other on the back for attempting a social interaction, and feel great about it all.

Or maybe I should just buy my baby a pink hair bow.

The Heirs of the Benefit Cosmetics Empire Share the Tips They Learned From Their Mom

Maggie and Annie Ford Danielson are living your best life. The sisters are the daughters and nieces of Benefit Cosmetics's founding duo Jean and Jane Ford. Now in their 30s, the sisters both have roles in the company. Maggie holds the title of account director for HSN and a global beauty authority, while Annie is the keeper of brand DNA and a global beauty authority. In addition to playing with Benefit products and seeing the new launches early, they help run the family business.

Here, in honor of Mother's Day, they share the tips they learned from their mom growing up. Let's just say Maggie made the case for leaving your face cleanser by the sink, and Annie convinced us to apply our moisturizer upside down. Keep reading to learn why!

  1. Maggie: "My sister and I first got exposed to makeup from peeking in our mom's drawers. We would watch her get ready, and we would then copy her. Our mom would always tell us that less is more when it comes to makeup, and we spent a good part of our lives ignoring this rule of thumb . . . until now!"
  2. Annie: "Our favorite beauty tip we got from our mom is to always groom your brows before you step out of your house. If you only have time to do one thing before you leave the house, it is this. It will make you look finished, even if it's all you're wearing. Plus, you will notice that you don't need as much makeup."
  3. Annie: "When I have a case of the spider lashes, I keep a paper clip that I unfold to help separate the lashes into a more natural place (or obviously, just use They're Real!)."
  4. Maggie: "If you haven't had a chance to get your brows shaped by a professional, embrace the overgrown brow, aka feathered look. If you don't have a brow gel, spray some hairspray on an old toothbrush and direct the hairs upward. You will instantly look more awake!"
  5. Maggie: "When applying concealer, run your fingertips under warm water to heat them up before blending."
  6. Annie: "Keep two spoons in the fridge at all times to help with lack-of-sleep eye puffiness. Using the back of the cold spoon is a quick fix to decrease puffiness before I apply my makeup."
  7. Maggie: "Leave your face cleanser by the kitchen sink. That way, cleansing your skin will be the first thing you do when you come home rather than the last thing you do before you go to bed."
  8. Annie: "Moisturize . . . upside down. It works! Lie on your bed and tilt your head all the way back while you massage the cream into your skin. Increased circulation will help absorption. It's like performing your own mini facial. It works by bringing the blood to the surface of the skin; it's invigorating and gets the moisture going more quickly."
  9. Maggie: "When I run out of makeup wipes and am much too exhausted to wash my face before bed, reach for a baby wipe. They're gentle and do a great job of removing the day."
  10. Maggie and Annie: "Our No. 1 beauty secret that we learned from mommy dearest is to SMILE. It instantly makes you look gorgeous and more youthful."

Everything We Know About Pippa Middleton's Wedding

In July 2016, Pippa Middleton got engaged to her longtime beau, financier James Matthews, and it didn't take long for excitement to build about the prospect of another wedding fit for a princess (or, in this case, a princess's sister). We've gotten a handful of tidbits about the big event, so we're rounding them up here as we learn more. Here are all the details we have about Pippa's upcoming nuptials (so far).

The Date

Pippa and James are set to tie the knot on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

The Venue

The couple will say their vows at the St. Mark's Englefield in Berkshire, UK, officiated by Reverend Nick Wynne-Jones, the resident priest. After the couple walk down the aisle in the historic 12th-century church, wedding guests will travel the six miles to Carole and Michael Middleton's home in Bucklebury for a reception in their 18-acre garden.

The Invitations

Pippa and James snuck save the dates inside their guests' Christmas cards over the holidays. Discreet invitations from the sophisticated Mount Street printers in Mayfair are to be sent out soon.

The Dress

While details on Pippa's gown are scarce, designer Giles Deacon was spotted carrying garment bags into her home back in November, stirring reports that he would be creating the dress. Like many other brides-to-be, Pippa has "a folder of magazine cuttings and pictures she has taken" of the gowns and floral arrangements she likes best.

The Planning

A source told Us Weekly earlier this year that Pippa is a very hands-on bride-to-be - she is an event planner, after all. "Pippa has a specific vision and feels she's learned enough about planning to get stuck into it herself rather than handing it all over to a planner," the insider said. "She doesn't want it to be too expensive or look gaudy. Classic and elegant are two of the words she used to describe it."

The Pre-Celebrations

In March, Pippa was joined by her sister for a ski trip in Maribel, France, as part of her hen do celebration. A friend told The Sun that the group "stayed in a really exclusive catered chalet with maids and a chef, who ensured that they were totally spoiled."

The (Royal) Wedding Party

While Kate has reportedly decided to opt out as an official member of Pippa's wedding party (she doesn't want to "upstage her sister"), she will attend with Prince William and likely do a reading at the ceremony. Her kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will also be involved: Charlotte is going to be one of the flower girls, and George will act as a page boy. Traditional in British weddings, page boys usually carry the bride's train or bring the wedding bands up to the altar.

Pippa and Kate's brother, James Middleton, has a possible usher role, while James Matthews's younger brother Spencer, who starred on the British reality show Made in Chelsea, is said to be the best man. In early April, Kate and William were spotted leaving a low-key dinner with Pippa, James, and his brother and parents at their home in Chelsea. We probably can't look forward to the queen being in attendance, but Prince Harry is definitely on the guest list. While he can't bring his girlfriend, Meghan Markle, to the ceremony - Pippa has reportedly enforced a "no ring, no bring" rule - the Suits actress will join him at the afterparty.

Cole Sprouse and KJ Apa Give Each Other Hilarious Compliments Written by Fans

We just can't get enough of Cole Sprouse and KJ Apa's bromance. While we hate that season one of Riverdale is already coming to an end, the gorgeous actors competed in a compliment battle by reading some of their fans' funniest tweets, and it's just as hilarious as you would expect. Aside from the fact that Cole basically looks like a sexy miner from District 12 as he reads some crazy notes from fans, we are swooning over KJ's laugh as his costar calls him super hot. Seriously, why are these two so adorable?

19 Nurse Tattoos That Are Both Badass and Sweet

Nurses are often the unsung heroes of the medical world, but many are drawn to the profession anyway out of a desire to care for others in their most desperate times of need. Accustomed to administering needles themselves, some nurses wear their hearts on their sleeves - literally - by paying homage to their job with a tattoo. From sweet to noble, these tattoos celebrate the combination of difficult work, science, and compassion that is the nursing profession.

The Official Trailer For the Love Actually Sequel Is Too Much for Your Emotions

Grab some hot chocolate and your significant other, Love Actually fans, because Christmas just came way early in the form of the official trailer for the film's sequel! News broke in February that the beloved holiday film is getting a 10-minute-long mini sequel in honor of Comic Relief's Red Nose Day telethon. It will check in with the film's characters 14 years after the events of the first movie, minus Emma Thompson's character. While we've already been treated to a ton of behind-the-scenes and set photos, the official trailer dropped on Thursday and now we're really excited. In the clip, Mark (Andrew Lincoln) holds up his infamous note cards again for Juliet (Keira Knightley). Daniel (Liam Neeson) also has a chat about love with Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and David (Hugh Grant) falls down the stairs during one of his dance routines. Sadly, we'll have to wait until May 25 for the entire thing, but this will definitely tide us over until then.

Trump Is Displaying an Election Results Map in the White House, Because of Course He Is

Thanks to one sneaky reporter, we now have some interesting insight on how President Donald Trump is planning to decorate part of the White House. We already know of a few major changes he's made to the Oval Office, but now it looks like the POTUS is tossing in an additional decoration that has us (and the rest of the internet, for that matter) shaking our heads.

Trey Yingst, a White House correspondent for One America News Network, recently tweeted an image of a large framed map displaying Trump's 2016 electoral college victory. "Spotted: A map to be hung somewhere in the West Wing," the reporter explained in the tweet. Yes, Trump still can't get over the election. Maybe he should also consider displaying that side-by-side comparison of his inauguration to Barack Obama's to bring him back down to earth a bit.

When Yingst shared the news of this eye-roll-inducing decor choice, his tweet quickly went viral, with many replying to comment on how "insecure" and "petty" the current White House staff is.

Maybe Trump should take Hillary Clinton's advice and stop talking about the election already.

Bow Wow Sort of, Kind of Responded to That Embarrassing Private Jet Photo Debacle

Bow Wow has finally issued a response (sort of) to being caught flexing on the 'gram earlier this week. On Thursday, the rapper and former BET host, whose real name is Shad Moss, gave an interview to Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning and addressed (sort of) being called out for lying about flying on a private jet when he was actually on a commercial flight. "I love it, because people don't understand the scientific method to my madness," he said while promoting his upcoming reality show, Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta. "I'm about to have to the biggest show on WE TV, period. It's a scientific method to my madness. You gotta just watch the show. Everything's for the show." Well, that's that then.

On Monday, Bow Wow posted a photo to Instagram of a private jet, tagged himself at Atlanta's Dekalb Peachtree Airport, and told followers that he was on his way to NYC to do press for the show. The ruse was upended by a Snapchat user who caught the rapper on her commercial, not-private-at-all flight to the Big Apple, which then prompted another eagle-eyed person to do a Catfish-style reverse image search on Google; turns out, the private jet Bow Wow shared was actually a promotional photo from a aircraft company in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Yikes. The embarrassing incident resulted (naturally) in a social media meme-athon called the #BowWowChallenge, in which people posted ridiculously over-the-top scenarios of their own on Twitter and Instagram. Between Bow Wow's "response" to the melee, plus the fact that he hasn't deleted the Instagram post, we're going to assume he's sticking to his story somehow. Keep reading for video of the interview.

Jessica Chastain Rolls Her Eyes So Hard at the Mention of Johnny Depp

It looks like we won't be able to add Jessica Chastain and Johnny Depp to our list of favorite celebrity friendships anytime soon. The actress made her feelings about the star pretty clear during a recent interview with BBC News for her new movie, Miss Sloane. After the reporter asks her what her techniques are when it comes to memorizing so many lines since, for example, Johnny Depp reportedly gets fed his through an ear piece, Jessica epically rolls her eyes. "My technique is working hard," she said. Her amazing moment shutting down Johnny's alleged diva behavior definitely rivals Anderson Cooper's amazing eye roll at Kellyanne Conway earlier this week.

Watch 1 Woman Hilariously Destroy the GOP's All-Male Healthcare Panel

Do you know whose input and support was glaringly absent from the American Health Care Act, a bill that could negatively impact millions of women? You guessed it! Women.

The American Health Care Act, a bill labeling sexual assault and C-sections as preexisting conditions, was passed last week with 217 "yes" votes coming from men and only five from women. And to make matters worse, the Senate GOP followed suit with yet another embarrassingly sexist move, forming a healthcare panel to rewrite the American Health Care Act without adding a single woman to the decision-making group - again.

So who is on this newly formed GOP panel, you ask? Well, it's made up of 13 men . . . and a whopping total of zero women.

Comedian Michelle Wolf recently appeared on The Daily Show to hilariously explain precisely what is wrong with the GOP's misogynistic approach to health care and even came prepared with her own strategy to run these men out of Washington entirely. Wolf opened up her segment by first comparing the American Health Care Act to a line from a Notorious B.I.G. song ("f*ck b*tches, get money"), before ripping into the GOP bill's attempt to turn irregular periods into a preexisting condition. "Quick glimpse into a lady's life - every period is an irregular period," Wolf said. "It's not like a paycheck where it arrives at the same time every month. Your period is more like an outdoor cat. You know it's gonna come back at some point, but you're not sure when, and you have no idea what it's gonna have in its mouth. The only thing regular about a period is that it sucks."

Wolf concluded by outlining her strategy to freak out men in government: show up to Washington and talk about our periods until they all hightail it out of town. "We just need to go into Congress and talk about periods. The men will disappear like a boner when you smell Grandma. And then us women can handle this sh*t ourselves." Sounds like a solid plan.

1 Scene in Alien: Covenant Will Change How You See Michael Fassbender

When it comes to a film like Alien: Covenant, you can count on a few things. First, there will be blood, guts, and terrifying alien monsters bursting out of human bodies. (In fact, you can tell that much just from the film's trailers and the other miscellaneous details we've gotten about the film in the past couple of months.) Second, you can guess that that there's going to be a bleak and twisted ending. But the one thing you might not predict is an awkward kiss, let alone an awkward kiss between Michael Fassbender . . . and Michael Fassbender.

Yes, you read that right. In Covenant, Fassbender reprises his role as David, the almost-too-human artificially intelligent being we first meet in Prometheus. He also plays Walter, a new and improved version of David with the exact same likeness but an entirely different personality. Interestingly enough, Walter and David are so opposite, they almost represent the opposite ends of good and evil spectrum. David reviles human beings and thinks they need to be destroyed. Walter swears by his duty to the crew of the Covenant, and will do anything to protect them. This leads to some pretty interesting scenes between the two androids, but the weird part is the strange, almost sexual tension between them.

Warning: Spoilers follow.

The first time they're alone, David shows Walter how to play the recorder flute. This involves a very intimate lesson in which David says he'll help Walter with the "fingering." Walter puts his hands on David's and guides him through a little, too. It's very Patrick Swayze helping Demi Moore make pottery in Ghost. But in their last scene together, David realizes Walter is not on board with his plan to kill all the humans and decides to kill him. Right before David kills Walter, he plants a very sensual kiss on Walter's lips and stabs him in the neck.

Anyway, that's it. It's a very strange, almost out-of-place moment, and it's very disorienting. But hey, David is a maniac. It makes sense a little bit, too. Here's hoping Michael Fassbender and Michael Fassbender win best kiss at next year's MTV Movie and TV Awards, right?
