The Real Reason Princess Diana Had a Public Funeral
Image Source: Getty / Anwar Hussein
Princess Diana's tragic death is one of the most heartbreaking news stories of the century; the 36-year-old former Princess of Wales was killed in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, and seven days later, she was honored with a public funeral that remains one of the most watched events in history. An estimated 2.5 billion people worldwide viewed or listened to the funeral, while another three million crowded the streets of London to follow the route of Diana's coffin from Kensington Palace to her final resting place at the Spencer family home in Althorp. While the event brought in many well-wishers - and celebrity guests like Tom Cruise, Hillary Clinton, Anna Wintour, and Steven Spielberg - Diana's funeral was originally intended to be a private affair attended only by members of the royal family and her closest relatives and friends. So how did it go from a personal event to a history-making phenomenon?

Just hours after Diana's death, her ex-husband Prince Charles arrived in Paris with her sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes, to take her body back to the UK. Her passing was met with an extraordinary outpouring of love and grief from the public, and Londoners began leaving tributes of flowers, candles, photos, and personal notes outside her home at Kensington Palace. But the reactions from the royal family had a different impact: they were at their Summer residence at Balmoral Castle at the time of Diana's death, and their initial decision not to return to London (nor to mourn the princess publicly) led to much criticism.
There was also allegedly a very heated discussion about Diana's funeral arrangements. Britain's Channel Four news reported that Queen Elizabeth II had insisted that Diana's ceremony be private, but that Charles put up "ferocious resistance." A senior official close to the circle said that it was "made very clear to Prince Charles" that Diana's body "was on no account to be brought to any of the royal palaces," adding, "The queen's desire was for her to be taken to a private mortuary and then to a private funeral." But when Charles traveled to Paris to pick up Diana's body, he spoke to then-Prime Minister Tony Blair, and the two agreed that Diana should be laid out at St. James's Palace with a public funeral held at Westminster Abbey. Between Charles's tenacious argument, the obvious emotion from people around the world, and an intervention from Tony Blair, Elizabeth eventually relented. Five days after Diana's death, she came back to London and acknowledged the public's outpouring of grief in a live video from Buckingham Palace, and the following day, Diana's public funeral took place.
Starting at 9:08 a.m. from Kensington Palace, Diana's coffin was taken on a route through the streets of London, along Hyde Park to St. James's Palace, where thousands waited in line to sign a public condolence book and where Prince Harry and Prince William joined the procession alongside their father, grandfather, and uncle, Earl Spencer. The coffin, accompanied by eight Welsh Guards, passed Buckingham Palace, where members of the royal family waited outside; Queen Elizabeth II bowed her head as it went by.

Diana's ceremony at Westminster Abbey began at 11 a.m. and was attended by government officials, foreign dignitaries, and Hollywood celebrities. Elton John performed "Candle in the Wind," which was rewritten for Diana by Bernie Taupin, who originally penned the song in 1973 to honor Marilyn Monroe. Just six weeks before her death, Diana was photographed comforting Elton at the funeral of their friend, fashion designer Gianni Versace. Diana's brother, Charles, gave an infamous eulogy in which he admonished both the royal family and the global press for their treatment of his sister.
Diana was buried privately later that day. The only people present were a close friend, her mother and siblings, Prince Charles, William, Harry, and a clergyman. She wore a black dress by Catherine Walker and held on to a rosary given to her by Mother Teresa (who, sadly, died the same week as Diana). She was laid to rest on a small island in the middle of a lake at Althorp, her family's estate. Charles Spencer decided that her gravesite was better off there than at their family vault in the local church, because it could be more easily cared for and offered better privacy for William and Harry to visit. The island where Diana's grave sits is accessed by a path of 36 trees - one for every year of her life - and black swans and white roses float in the water. Despite the drama surrounding Princess Diana's funeral plans, the public event still has an impact on all of those who watched and attended it and speaks volumes about her influence around the world.

Kurt Russell Forgot About Meeting Amy Schumer Shortly After It Happened
Amy Schumer was so excited to work with her idol Goldie Hawn on their new movie Snatched, but it turns out that her "first" encounter with Goldie's partner, Kurt Russell, didn't go exactly as planned. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, the comedian talked about how overjoyed Kurt was to meet her when she visited their home, but the only problem was it wasn't their first interaction. They actually sat next to each other through the whole 2017 Golden Globe Awards. "He lives in the moment," Goldie added. "And then he forgets about it a moment later." Looks like Kurt is a real-life Dory.
This Impossibly Chic Fragrance Line Is the Best-Kept Secret of Kate Middleton and Other Royals
I love a good secret, but I find beauty secrets particularly invigorating. Celebrity makeup preferences divulged by artists, intel on undetectable lash extensions, and A-list-approved dermatologist recommendations are all facts that I collect and hoard like a magpie. That's why I was completely bowled over when I discovered iconic fragrance brand Krigler - how had I never heard of it before?
Krigler started in 1879 when brand founder Albert Krigler mixed up his first scent, Pleasure Gardenia 79, as a gift for his fiancée. In 1904, he opened his first shop, and by 1931, when the company opened its first American outpost in New York City's Plaza Hotel, it had already become a favorite of celebrities, politicians, and royalty around the world.
For example, John F. Kennedy wore the brand's America One 31, a blue-tinted cologne with notes of vetiver, mandarin, and cedar that smells powerful but not overwhelming. (According to Ben Krigler, the brand's fifth-generation owner and perfumer, fraternities at Ivy League universities provide bottles of this scent to their members on graduation day.) The delicate white floral English Promenade 19 was Audrey Hepburn's favorite fragrance. And Grace Kelly's signature scent, Chateau Krigler 12, is an elegant concoction of rose, mimosa, and lily of the valley. Need even more name dropping? One of its most noteworthy current fans is Kate Middleton (who loves Extraordinaire Camelia 209); the current royals of Monaco are as well.
One of its most noteworthy current fans is Kate Middleton, who loves Extraordinaire Camelia 209.
The brand is still producing new scents to this day, using the same meticulous blending methods and high-quality ingredients that made its products so beloved. This year, Krigler is reintroducing Subtle Orchid 10, a scent originally developed in 1910 that blends the sweet scents of a patisserie with the heady aroma of a flower shop. Vanilla-lovers will covet this one, as a true baker's vanilla anchors other notes of patchouli, coffee, and blossoms.
It was hard to pick a favorite from Krigler's hundreds of legendary perfumes, and I didn't - it picked me. I've never been inclined to wear a male fragrance before and have typically only worn white florals or citrusy scents, which is why I was shocked that I was immediately captivated by Oud For Highness 75. This was originally a bespoke fragrance made for King Hussein of Jordan in 1975. After he passed away, the Jordanian royal family allowed Krigler to add it to its permanent collection.
It's warm, woodsy, and covertly sensual, with a zippy top note of bergamot that opens into lush patchouli, rose, and (of course) oud wood. There's a subtle sweetness from honey with a spicy heat from saffron. It's the kind of fragrance that makes me feel like a grown - but not overly mature - woman who can take on the world, just like royalty.
My new obsession will end up being a pricey one, as a 1.7-ounce bottle will run me back $425. But it seems reasonable to me that being a part of one of the beauty industry's best-kept secrets should come at a cost. Luckily, you can snag samples of Krigler's legendary fragrances for a fraction of the cost of a larger bottle on the brand's website. And, if you're lucky enough to live near The Plaza, I highly recommend you stop into the company's atelier, just like Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn did. Beauty shopping doesn't get much chicer than that.
Kate Middleton Charms the Heck Out of a Few Lucky Little Boys in Luxembourg
Prince William better watch his back, because a few pint-sized admirers of Kate Middleton caught her eye during her solo appearance in Luxembourg on Thursday. The Duchess of Cambridge, who practically floated through the afternoon in her dreamy blue coat, is in town to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the 1867 Treaty of London, which marked the nation's independence and neutrality. In addition to chatting with Crown Princess Stephanie at the Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art, she also mingled with the gathered crowd.
While we love seeing Kate in any capacity, there's just something so charming about her interactions with kids. The mom of Princess Charlotte and Prince George couldn't help but smile and laugh as she chatted with a few small boys, who gifted her with a bouquet of flowers. Kate's other activities included meeting with young locals who work in education, culture, and business and attending a cycling-themed parade, where she met with children who are designing Tour de France jerseys.
Bow Wow Sort of, Kind of Responded to That Embarrassing Private Jet Photo Debacle
Bow Wow has finally issued a response (sort of) to being caught flexing on the 'gram earlier this week. On Thursday, the rapper and former BET host, whose real name is Shad Moss, gave an interview to Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning and addressed (sort of) being called out for lying about flying on a private jet when he was actually on a commercial flight. "I love it, because people don't understand the scientific method to my madness," he said while promoting his upcoming reality show, Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta. "I'm about to have to the biggest show on WE TV, period. It's a scientific method to my madness. You gotta just watch the show. Everything's for the show." Well, that's that then.
On Monday, Bow Wow posted a photo to Instagram of a private jet, tagged himself at Atlanta's Dekalb Peachtree Airport, and told followers that he was on his way to NYC to do press for the show. The ruse was upended by a Snapchat user who caught the rapper on her commercial, not-private-at-all flight to the Big Apple, which then prompted another eagle-eyed person to do a Catfish-style reverse image search on Google; turns out, the private jet Bow Wow shared was actually a promotional photo from an aircraft company in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Yikes. The embarrassing incident resulted (naturally) in a social media meme-athon called the #BowWowChallenge, in which people posted ridiculously over-the-top scenarios of their own on Twitter and Instagram. Between Bow Wow's "response" to the melee, plus the fact that he hasn't deleted the Instagram post, we're going to assume he's sticking to his story somehow. Keep reading for video of the interview.
The 11-Year-Old Prince of Norway Dabs, Generally Has No Chill During Royal Ceremony
Image Source: Getty / Patrick van Katwijk
King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway celebrated their 80th birthdays this week with a string of massive events in Oslo. Despite the high-profile guest list - which included Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden and Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco - it was the couple's 11-year-old grandson, Prince Sverre Magnus, who stole the show with his antics on the balcony of the Royal Palace. On Tuesday, Sverre was either really bored or really excited by the giant crowd of well-wishers that formed in front of the palace, because he started acting pretty extra while up there with the rest of his family. A video on Twitter showed the young royal throwing peace signs (innocent enough) before hitting a dab for the fans (and you thought the dab was over, huh?)

Even though the adults didn't notice or seem to mind Sverre's stunts, his cousin, Leah Isadora Behn, was not having it; the 12-year-old looked visibly annoyed with him, even trying to force his arms down and keeping her arms crossed like, "Here we go again with this guy." Dab on, Sverre Magnus. Dab on.
Miley Cyrus's Sunny New Single Is a Look Into Her Relationship With Liam Hemsworth
While we're becoming more and more enamored with Noah Cyrus, her veteran sister, Miley, is still churning out low-key hits. The music video for her latest single, "Malibu," is a fun trip to the beach - and thankfully a far cry from the manic energy of her last album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. She appears to be having fun on the beach, but all I can think about is how cold it must be. Malibu in May? Still freezing, guys. Still, it's a cute video, and the song is clearly inspired by her rekindled relationship with Liam Hemsworth. (Quite literally, they love Malibu.)
Kurt Russell Once Took a Naked Photo of Goldie Pretending to Be a Strong Man
Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn are having too much fun promoting their new movie, Snatched. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, the onscreen mother-daughter duo was full of laughs as they played a game of Never Have I Ever with the host. In addition to getting pretty candid about their sex lives, Goldie also revealed a few interesting truths about her 34-year-long relationship with Kurt Russell. For example, he once took a naked photo of her pretending to be a strong man (not kidding).
2017 Is Off to a Great Start For These Engaged Celebrity Couples
Now that Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have tied the knot, the world is waiting with bated breath for another celebrity wedding. Will Serena Williams be making the trek down the aisle soon, or will it be Nikki Bella? Perhaps it might even be Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons. Regardless of who it is, it's refreshing to see stars take the next step in their relationships given all the celebrity breakups we had last year.
Riverdale's Big Twist Could Send Archie Down a Dark Path Next Season
Riverdale teased a big season one finale, and the episode certainly didn't disappoint. While the series didn't suddenly become supernatural like we initially thought it would, it definitely left us on the edge of our seats with a major cliffhanger. In the final moments of the episode, Archie is on top of the world. His music career is looking up, his relationship with Veronica is blossoming, it seems like nothing could go wrong . . . until a masked gunman comes into Pop's and shoots his dad. As Archie watches his father slowly bleed out on the floor, we're left to wonder, does Fred actually die?
While showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is staying pretty tight-lipped about the fate of Mr. Andrews, he did reveal that this event will be a major turning point for Archie next season. "This is sort of the biggest thing to happen in Archie's life," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's like the moment when Bruce Wayne sees his parents gunned down in Crime Alley or when Peter Parker learns that that his Uncle Ben was murdered by a burglar." Wait, both of those examples are of characters who die. What is he getting at? While this season was all about who killed Jason, it seems next season's theme will be who shot Fred. Our money is on Hiram Lodge.

These "Pac-Manicures" Are Here to Take You on a Trip Down Memory Lane
When it comes to beauty trends, nostalgia reigns supreme in our books. So of course, we were practically swooning upon discovering the gloriousness that is Pac-Man nail art. The cult video game is one of the the hallmarks of '80s and '90s pop culture, and just thinking about it instantly gives me flashbacks to childhood birthday parties spent with my eyes glued to the arcade game screen, attempting to avoid those pesky multicolored ghosts.
As an ode to the dot-eating, maze-navigating main character, many nail artists have started decorating their manicures - or shall we say Pac-Manicures - with impressively-detailed renditions of the video game. Some opt for simply painting one character on each nail, while others somehow manage to paint intricate renderings of the game - zig-zagging maze lines, tiny dots, and all! Just looking at these nails is like a stroll down memory lane.
Ahead, watch a video tutorial to learn how to master this trend, and scroll on to see how Pac-Man enthusiasts everywhere are channeling the throwback vibes with their cute nail art.
10 Tips For Using Hot Rollers - According to Hair Pros
Image Source: StockSnap / Markus Spiske
Beachy waves are here to stay, but if you're not handy with a curling iron, don't worry. Consider hot rollers instead. These aren't your momma's hot rollers from the '80s. Today's rollers are super easy to use and give a big, bouncy wave plus tons of volume.
Hot rollers are more forgiving than a curling iron, and while you're waiting for the rollers to cool, you can move on to something else, such as applying makeup. There's a wide variety of rollers on the market, from basic ones from Remington ($20) or the pricier Chi rollers ($85).
To get the most out of your rollers, follow these top 10 tips from stylists.
- "Do not use rollers smaller than 1.5 inches in diameter for a more modern curl size. The larger, the better for softer waves." - Jill Engelsen, senior stylist at Butterfly Studio Salon in New York
- "Make sure that your hair is properly dry before you use the hot rollers. A good blow dry first will help the outside surface layer of the hair, the cuticle, to lay flat, which gives your finished look more volume, and the style should hold for longer. Use some lightweight styling serum for heat protection." - Vernon Francois hair care team
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Maria del Rio
- "I start wrapping the hot roller from midstrand. I feel if you start wrapping from ends they have a tendency to get too much curl. As I get to the bottom, I tuck the end of the strand around the roller, and I use the butterfly-looking clip to hold them in place." - Elvin Arvelo, owner of Oon Arvelo Salon in New York
- "Use a thermal protector before using the hot rollers. This will help hold the shape without stiffness. One of my favorites is the Kérastase Paris L'incroyable Blowdry ($40). I also suggest not using a ton of hairspray prior to wrapping them. Hairspray will cause the rollers to stick and make a huge mess." - Kérastase consulting hairstylist Matt Fugate
- "An easy way to apply rollers is to part your hair in a mohawk style. Create three large sections and apply rollers straight down the middle. Then proceed to add rollers to the sides." - Dark and Lovely style squad member Stephanie McLemore
- "If you want the hair to push away from the face, the roller should be rolled toward one's face. If you would like your hair to be wavy, roll toward your crown. And if you want a style that has no specific part, take your hair from both sides from where your hair normally parts and roll it on one roller." - Paul LeBreque, Paul LeBreque Salon, New York
- "If the hair gets too curly, run a flatiron through the strand quickly to release it a bit. Or just flatiron the ends." - Jill Engleson, senior stylist at Butterfly Studio Salon in New York
Image Source: POPSUGAR Photography / Benjamin Stone
- "For the Marilyn Monroe look, place the hot rollers all over, rolling each piece away from your head, all back off the face. This will leave a more unstructured curl. Give a light spray, let cool, and wind off the hair. Flip hair upside down and brush out with a wide-tooth comb." - Melissa Peverini, Cricket Co. ambassador and celebrity stylist
- "Changing the direction of the wrap will help to create more natural/textured looking waves." - Temur of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger salon in New York
- "Flip hair over and spray with any texture/beach spray. Shake hair well with your hands to break it up."- Temur of Sharon Dorram Color at Sally Hershberger salon in New York

Ivanka Trump Reportedly Cried When She Heard the P*ssy Tape
Since her father's election, Ivanka Trump has been painted as a moderate force in the White House. Whether or not Trump's policy positions influence or align with her father's has yet to be proven, but Trump's attempts to sway her father are detailed in a recent New York Times profile. Of the many tidbits revealed about their relationship, one stands out the most.
When the now-infamous tape of her father bragging about grabbing women "by the p*ssy" was leaked by The Washington Post during the campaign, Trump was reportedly distraught. As any child whose father's gloating about sexual assault is heard across the world might do, Trump was driven to tears, according to sources who were present at the damage control meetings in Trump Tower.
After the tape was leaked, campaign staffers convened to discuss a response; Trump "made an emphatic case for a full-throated apology," reports The Times. However, her father seemed unwilling to apologize: "As she spoke, Mr. Trump remained unyielding. His daughter's eyes welled with tears, her face reddened, and she hurried out in frustration," according to The Times.
While the now-president eventually apologized, his positions have continued to be less than supportive of women - a cause that is supposedly his daughter's focus. Though Ivanka Trump "can effectively convey criticism to a man who often refuses it from others, and can appeal to him to change his mind," it's unclear whether her influence has actually produced results.
Trump's sway has, however, produced failures: her meeting with Planned Parenthood was unproductive, she has been unable to persuade her father to consider climate science, and she did not prevent her father's widely criticized travel ban despite her seemingly tolerant image.
According to her younger brother Eric, Trump was able to convince her father of one position: responding to the chemical attacks in Syria, which killed several children with a controversial airstrike.
Trump is at least aware of her political inexperience. According to The Times profile, Trump is determined to be "proactive" about the "type of change and reform that [she] would like to see happen." Trump is also cognizant of her critics. "In the short run I'll have missteps, and, in some cases, I'll take shots that I could have avoided if I had publicly said what I think," Trump told The Times.
Why It Took Queen Elizabeth II 5 Days to Publicly Address Princess Diana's Death
Image Source: Getty / Graeme Robertson
It's been nearly 20 years since Princess Diana's fatal car accident in Paris, and the upcoming anniversary of her death has sparked renewed interest in the tragic event. When news broke that Diana had died in August 1997, Queen Elizabeth II was highly criticized for the way she handled the situation. Many accused her of failing to capture the mood of the nation and faulted her for being aloof in the days following her former daughter-in-law's passing. The queen conveyed a "business-as-usual" message by taking Diana's sons, Prince William and Prince Harry (who were 15 and 12, respectively, at the time), to church at Balmoral in Scotland hours after Prince Charles had broken the news to them. She was also criticized for remaining at her Scotland residence for too long, failing to appear at tributes near Buckingham Palace, and not returning quickly enough to London.

However, according to the queen's first cousin and close friend Margaret Rhodes, the queen's choice to temporarily abandon the people was due to her overwhelming concern for the welfare of her grandchildren, William and Harry. In an interview with CNN back in 2012, Margaret came to the queen's defense, saying, "She was castigated . . . for staying up at Balmoral with the two little boys. She was being a proper granny. What was the point of bringing the boys down to sit in London with nothing to do but sit there feeling sad about mum. Personally, I think I would have behaved in exactly the same way."
It was only when then-Prime Minister Tony Blair intervened that Elizabeth came back to London and acknowledged the public's outpouring of grief. "She made it all right in the end by coming down and looking at all the flowers," Margaret stated. Five days after Diana's death, Elizabeth delivered a live address to the people of England from the Chinese Dining Room at Buckingham Palace. She paid tribute to Diana, calling her "an exceptional and gifted human being," and explained her reason for being at Balmoral, saying, "This week at Balmoral, we have all been trying to help William and Harry come to terms with the devastating loss that they and the rest of us have suffered." She ended her speech with a touching statement: "May those who died rest in peace and may we, each and every one of us, thank God for someone who made many, many people happy." 13 Reasons Why's Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford Tease Season 2
13 Reasons Why has become a pop culture phenomenon, so it makes sense that the show's young stars just landed the cover of Entertainment Weekly. Now that Netflix's hit has secured a second season, Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford are being bombarded with questions: How will the show continue past season one? Will Hannah be involved? What's going to happen to Bryce? While we need to wait for the issue to hit newsstands, there are a few advanced quotes about what's coming from creator Brian Yorkey and Thirteen Reasons Why author Jay Asher.
"For people who aren't in high school, this show is a peek at what high school is like nowadays," said Yorkey. When asked about the show's vivid portrayal of what bullying really looks like for today's teens, he said: "It was supremely important that we do everything we could to tell the truth." Asher agreed, saying, "If the book or TV show can get people talking about these uncomfortable things, that's beautiful."
Underwhelmed? Good thing we have a ton more details, plus a video of the two stars! Here's a small version, and you can see the original over at EW.

This Is What Nars's New Orgasm Lipstick Looks Like on Diverse Skin Tones
Before there were viral Peach Palettes, there was Nars Orgasm blush. The shimmery pink-peach shade is probably the most famous blush - ever! - and it's known to look good on just about everyone. Plus, it gives you that post-romp "afterglow" look.
This Summer, the iconic shade is expanding its empire (there's already a multiuse stick, lip gloss, and liquid illuminator in the hue) to include liquid blush and a lipstick. Here, we're going to discuss the latter.
While Orgasm Lipstick doesn't launch until May 15 ($28), we got advance samples to test. The formula is just as creamy and nourishing as other Nars lipsticks, and it's decently longwear and pigmented.
But would it be like the sisterhood of the traveling lipstick and complement most complexions? Four POPSUGAR editors - with skin tones ranging from pale to dark - swiped on the shimmery peach-pink to see if it's as universally flattering as its sister powder blush. Keep reading for our reviews!
A Muslim Activist's Tweet Comparing Trump's Travel Ban to Gun Violence Is Stunningly Apt
President Trump's contentious travel ban was never based on fact, but firmly rooted in an illegitimate fear that refugees and asylum seekers from predominately Muslim countries might be terrorists. Despite the legitimate fact that only three refugees were responsible for three terror-related deaths nearly 50 years ago, Trump contended that suspending America's refugee resettlement was a matter of national security. But perspective, helpfully offered by Muslim activist Qasim Rashid on Twitter, presents a far greater threat to America's safety: gun violence.
90 days later:
Refugees:
•0 Attacks
•0 Deaths
•2 Travel Bans
Americans:
•21,290 Shootings
•5,214 Deaths
•121 Mass Shootings
•0 Gun Bans https://t.co/pGWS0ONiKG- Qasim Rashid, Esq. (@MuslimIQ) May 9, 2017
The numbers Rashid cites are from an independent gun violence nonprofit, Gun Violence Archive, because the Center for Disease Control does not track gun violence (nor does any other government bureau). According to its website, there have been 21,719 gun-related incidents, 5,304 deaths, and 123 mass shootings in 2017 alone. These are staggering numbers without Rashid's comparison, but his parallel presents a striking hole in Trump's logic.
Rashid's comparison is not new nor original, but it does shed light on the obscenely ignorant notion that refugees are in someway inclined to violence. When Trump first introduced his not-a-Muslim-travel-ban, social media users circulated a graph from the CATO Institute which showed the relative deaths caused by refugees compared to other deaths. What did it show? That absolutely zero people from any of the countries listed on Trump's ban has killed anyone in a terror attack on United States soil in the last 40 years.
For people who value statistical data: the CATO Institute also estimates that the probability an American citizen will die by a foreign-born terrorist is 0.00003 percent.
Jennifer Lopez Just Wore the Leggings That Will Add a Little Sexy to Any Gym Outfit
Jennifer Lopez is the queen of athleisure style, there is no denying that. The 47-year-old stepped out in New York City looking as comfy as ever in an oversize parka (it was a cool Spring day), a black graphic sweatshirt, black leggings, and sneakers - a pretty simple outfit, until you look closer. Zoom in on J Lo's calves and you'll spot crisscross mesh detailing on her leggings that gave her gym outfit a sexy twist by showing unexpected skin.
This look was a strong contrast to her most recent outing, where she wore a $7,900 Valentino trench coat. That's what J Lo does well - dressing high fashion one day and super chill the next. Keep scrolling to see more photos of Jennifer's gym look and shop similar legging options.
The Heirs of the Benefit Cosmetics Empire Share the Tips They Learned From Their Mom
Maggie and Annie Ford Danielson are living your best life. The sisters are the daughters and nieces of Benefit Cosmetics's founding duo Jean and Jane Ford. Now in their 30s, the sisters both have roles in the company. Maggie holds the title of account director for HSN and a global beauty authority, while Annie is the keeper of brand DNA and a global beauty authority. In addition to playing with Benefit products and seeing the new launches early, they help run the family business.
Here, in honor of Mother's Day, they share the tips they learned from their mom growing up. Let's just say Maggie made the case for leaving your face cleanser by the sink, and Annie convinced us to apply our moisturizer upside down. Keep reading to learn why!
- Maggie: "My sister and I first got exposed to makeup from peeking in our mom's drawers. We would watch her get ready, and we would then copy her. Our mom would always tell us that less is more when it comes to makeup, and we spent a good part of our lives ignoring this rule of thumb . . . until now!"
- Annie: "Our favorite beauty tip we got from our mom is to always groom your brows before you step out of your house. If you only have time to do one thing before you leave the house, it is this. It will make you look finished, even if it's all you're wearing. Plus, you will notice that you don't need as much makeup."
- Annie: "When I have a case of the spider lashes, I keep a paper clip that I unfold to help separate the lashes into a more natural place (or obviously, just use They're Real!)."
- Maggie: "If you haven't had a chance to get your brows shaped by a professional, embrace the overgrown brow, aka feathered look. If you don't have a brow gel, spray some hairspray on an old toothbrush and direct the hairs upward. You will instantly look more awake!"
- Maggie: "When applying concealer, run your fingertips under warm water to heat them up before blending."
- Annie: "Keep two spoons in the fridge at all times to help with lack-of-sleep eye puffiness. Using the back of the cold spoon is a quick fix to decrease puffiness before I apply my makeup."
- Maggie: "Leave your face cleanser by the kitchen sink. That way, cleansing your skin will be the first thing you do when you come home rather than the last thing you do before you go to bed."
- Annie: "Moisturize . . . upside down. It works! Lie on your bed and tilt your head all the way back while you massage the cream into your skin. Increased circulation will help absorption. It's like performing your own mini facial. It works by bringing the blood to the surface of the skin; it's invigorating and gets the moisture going more quickly."
- Maggie: "When I run out of makeup wipes and am much too exhausted to wash my face before bed, reach for a baby wipe. They're gentle and do a great job of removing the day."
- Maggie and Annie: "Our No. 1 beauty secret that we learned from mommy dearest is to SMILE. It instantly makes you look gorgeous and more youthful."

Once Upon a Time Has Been Renewed, but Not Everyone Is Coming Back
Once Upon a Time's story isn't over quite yet. Ahead of the show's season six finale on Sunday, the fairytale drama has been renewed for a full 22-episode seventh season. While Jennifer Morrison (Emma) recently revealed that she will not return as a regular, Lana Parrilla (Regina), Robert Carlyle (Rumple) and Colin O'Donoghue (Captain Hook) are confirmed to return. Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White) and Josh Dallas (Prince Charming) have been vocal about their desire to leave after the current season.
According to showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, next season will face a major "reset button" by taking a new direction from a narrative standpoint. While it's hard to imagine how the series will go on without its main heroine, some fans think the upcoming finale will include a time-jump with guest-star, Andrew J. West, playing an adult Henry. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Mom's Message After Overhearing a Parent at Chick-Fil-A Talk About Her Boy With Disabilities
After a potentially painful and uncomfortable encounter, Leah Carroll has a message to the mom-of-three who was at Chick-fil-A with her three kids. Leah wants this fellow parent to know that she overheard the questions, saw the stares, and was blown away by her response.
"I sensed your panic when your 5-year-old son pointed at my son in his wheelchair and shouted, 'Mom look at THAT boy!'' Leah shared on Love What Matters Facebook page. "You leaned forward and quietly told him and his 3-year-old brother that we don't say things like that and they shouldn't point or stare."
Leah waited because she knew in most cases, telling a child not to stare or question her child's differences doesn't work because young, curious minds have questions that they want answered. "When you realized your whispers weren't working I saw the panic disappear and you took a deep breath and took a step of courage," she wrote. "You brought your boys over to Malachi and said 'I bet he would like to know your names!'"
Leah explained that as they said their names to Malachi, her child started grinning and chatting with the kids and that this interaction was more important than this amazing mom could've realized.
The joy on his face brought tears to my eyes- he loves kids his age but so many are fearful to come and speak to him. Your boys continued to ask questions about his foot braces, his wheelchair, why his legs don't work, why he holds his mouth open like that.
You took the time to educate your sons in that moment and help them understand that different is okay. Different is not something to fear. And that it was okay to ask questions! Thank you for giving my son a chance to meet your kids.
Thank you for being the type of mom who educates your children instead of frantically trying to silence them. Special needs moms have to develop tough skin - we get used to stares, comments, and whispers. Please know it takes a lot to offend us, particularly when the comments are coming from young children. Give your kids the same grace we give them and use the opportunity to teach them about differences.
So Chick-Fil-A mom, thank you for raising your children to embrace children like Malachi. And thank you for giving my son something to smile about."

This Student Wrote 127 Pages in Response to an Infuriating Catholic School Assignment
I go to a Catholic high school, and they wanted me to write a paper on why gay marriage is "wrong and dangerous", so instead I wrote this 127 page paper. from lgbt
One Catholic high school student in Missouri is going viral for sharing the details of their shocking religion class assignment - along with the epic way they responded to it.
Reddit user averagesmurf recently shared the above photo, showing the cover of their latest morality class assignment. The student's teacher allegedly assigned the high school students to write a paper about why gay marriage is "wrong and dangerous," but this teen had a little something different up their sleeve. Instead, they cranked out a whopping 127 pages about why gay marriage is actually "fabulous," backed up with Bible references and historical quotes.
The post garnered more than 900 comments from people who offered up both positive and negative reactions. Some praised the student's work, with one user saying, "Good job :) hope you got an A." Yet others were suspicious that the photo was a fluke, with another user writing, "This smells like bullsh*t to me, 127 pages is stupidly long and I doubt any school would assign an essay about the dangers of gay marriage."
So, the student shared a few snapshots of supposed pages from the assignment to prove its validity. The typed pages incorporate multiple Bible quotes and citations to support the student's argument that gay marriage should not be frowned upon by the Church.
On top of that, the student offered up an in-depth explanation of what the assignment entailed.
Though we may not know for sure whether this student's assignment was real, we sure hope it is, because it looks like some people in this world still need to broaden their viewpoint on this hot topic.
If You Want a Healthy Relationship, Stop Making Your Partner Work Out With You
Many struggle to merge a romantic relationship with their love of fitness. When you've committed your life to another person, it's natural to want them to be into the same things as you. And when they're not, conflict can sometimes arise. Perhaps you try to convince them. You bribe them to come try a class or go on a run or eat the overnight oats you made. Still, they want nothing to do with you and your little containers of cold, soggy oatmeal.
Their rejection might have nothing to do with laziness or a lack of desire to be fit. It may be your approach. Let's break it down this way. Did you come out of the womb eating chia seeds and making bone broth? Was your workout routine perfect from the start? Was it always easier to go for the healthier option? Of course not. These things take time, experimentation, and sacrifice. So, if your SO is struggling, understand that these things do not happen overnight. Not like those delicious oats they won't eat . . .
How can you help? First and foremost, stop trying to be their personal trainer. Take it from me, I'm a trainer with a husband who does not approach exercise the way I do. And after a few years of butting heads, we realized it's better for us to go our own way, fitness speaking. And it's helped our relationship: no competition, no guilt trips, no hard feelings.
For me, being active fuels my daily routine. I found my happy place in group exercise and liked it so much I became an instructor. I am always looking for new classes and challenges to keep me sharp. Because I work out so much, my eating habits have had to change to provide the right kinds of fuel to get me through. It's not about a Pinterest-worthy lunch, it's about setting myself up for success in my workouts. If I eat right, I feel stronger.
On the other hand, my husband wants an efficient, no frills, and noninteractive exercise session that he can fit into his busy schedule that includes weekly overnight travel, two demanding (but adorable) children, and me, his hyperactive wife. When he eats, he cares more about enjoying the food than its protein count. On that last point, we do agree. But the rest? Not even close.
You love them for who they are, not how much they can bench press.
When I come home from yoga and demonstrate a new arm balance and he just shakes his head and says, "I thought yoga was about stretching," do I take that personally? No, I can't. I don't need his approval to enjoy my progress, and our relationship doesn't need him to be able to drop into a Flying Pigeon as a marker of our marital bliss. We can do different things. We can work out separately.
The message you are trying to send may be about health, but it may come across as judgment and rejection of who they are in their present form. You love them for who they are, not how much they can bench press - and it shouldn't be about changing how they look. We need to model an active, healthy lifestyle in a positive way so that it is an attractive goal and not an unattainable deterrent. We have to be willing to let others come to fitness at their pace, in their way, and on their terms. The more we push, the more they will pull away. We need to ask instead of tell, invite instead of order.
If your partner isn't ready to commit to a regular exercise schedule, there are still ways you can engage in healthy lifestyle choices together that don't involve sweating - like gardening, taking an after-dinner walk, or finding healthy and tasty new recipes to make together. There are constructive ways to encourage your partner without it turning into exer-nagging. Or worse, exer-bullying. In the end, everyone's fitness journey is personal. We need to start with respect and love so we can end with the same.

How The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln Played a Part in Princess Diana's Funeral
Princess Diana's public funeral took place on Sept. 6, 1997, and drew an outpouring of love from people around the globe. The event is one of the most watched in history with over 2.5 billion people tuning in worldwide, and the procession through the streets of London brought out another 3 million grieving locals. One of them was actor Andrew Lincoln, who played an integral part in the funeral cortege. Andrew, now best-known for his roles in Love Actually and on The Walking Dead, was an alum of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, one of the charities of which Princess Diana was a patron. At her funeral, 500 representatives of various charities that Diana had been involved with were chosen to walk behind her coffin at St. James Palace, joining Prince William, Prince Harry, Prince Charles, Prince Philip, and Earl Spencer, Diana's brother.
Andrew opened up about the "strange day" in a 2008 Metro interview. "I was asked because I am a RADA graduate and all the organizations Princess Diana was a patron of were represented," he said, adding, "We had to walk behind the gun carriage that carried her body. I just kept my head down . . . it was a very bizarre experience." He went on to praise Harry and William for their composure during the event: "I was in awe of the princes. Losing a parent and then having to grieve publicly is extraordinary."

There Were a Handful of Suspects in JonBenét Ramsey's Murder, Including Her Own Parents

JonBenét Ramsey was only 6 years old when she was brutally murdered in her own home in December 1996, but the case has continued to fascinate the public in the more than 20 years since then. JonBenét's father, John, was the one who found her body on Dec. 26 in the basement of their Boulder, CO, home roughly eight hours after her parents reported her missing after they found a ransom note. An autopsy of JonBenét's body revealed that she was struck in the head and strangled to death. Police also later confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.
Unlike other murder cases that go cold after years of being unsolved, JonBenét's has done the opposite and only continues to heat up. There have been a number of documentaries and TV specials about the murder, and most recently, Netflix released Casting JonBenet, its chilling take on why the intense media attention of the Ramsey family has failed to waver. JonBenét's murder remains unsolved to this day, but there were a few main suspects that police thought could have committed the horrific act.
1. John and Patsy Ramsey
Because it seemed so unlikely that kidnappers would kill their victim, leave the body in their own home, and still leave behind a ransom note, police were quick to turn their suspicions to JonBenét's parents, John and Patsy. Boulder police believed for many years that on the night of the murder, Patsy injured JonBenét in a fit of rage and either killed her while still angry or killed her to cover up an injury. In 1999, a Colorado grand jury voted to indict Patsy and John because they believed they were abusive toward their daughter, which eventually led to murder. In 2008, two years after Patsy died of ovarian cancer, prosecutors officially cleared the family of any wrongdoing.

2. Burke Ramsey
Despite looking closely at JonBenét's parents, police were clear that her older brother, Burke, who was 9 years old at the time of her murder, was never a main suspect. He was formally exonerated along with his parents in 2008, but he recently got a lot of unwanted attention when the CBS docuseries The Case Of: JonBenét Ramsey aired in September. In the show, a team of experts, which included a retired FBI agent and a behavioral analyst, came up with the theory that Burke was eating pineapple on that fateful Christmas Eve when his little sister came downstairs and took a piece of fruit from him (her autopsy revealed she had pineapple in her stomach at the time of her death). They suggested that Burke got angry and hit JonBenét in the head with a flashlight, breaking her skull. They theorized that John and Patsy Ramsey then attempted to cover up what Burke had done with the ransom note plan. The team also analyzed video footage of interviews police did with Bruke shortly after the murder, in which he shows no signs of trauma or emotional distress.
After the special aired, Burke was quick to fight back against the damning claims, telling Dr. Phil in a rare sit-down interview that he had nothing to do with his sister's death. "I know people think I did it, that my parents did it," he said. "I know that we were suspects. I want to honor her memory by doing this interview."

3. John Mark Karr
In a bizarre turn of events, former schoolteacher John Mark Karr, who appeared to have no connection to the Ramsey family or the case, confessed to killing JonBenét in graphic detail in 2006. After fleeing the US for Thailand after facing child pornography charges, Karr emailed professor Michael Tracey at the University of Colorado Boulder about a documentary Tracey was making about the case. After telling Tracey about his sexual fascination with JonBenét, Tracey reported him to the police. He was arrested in Thailand and immediately flown back to Colorado for questioning. Despite his detailed confession, which included saying he strangled JonBenét during a "love game" gone wrong, he was ultimately cleared after his DNA failed to match the profile of an unknown male's found at the crime scene. Police could also never confirm whether or not he had ever been to Boulder before, and he was quickly considered to be a pedophile just looking for fame.

4. Gary Oliva
Despite thinking that JonBenét's murder was committed by someone she knew, police did turn their attention to Boulder resident Gary Oliva, who was a 32-year-old sex offender living nearby at the time of her death. After Oliva was arrested in 2000 on drug charges, he quickly became a suspect when police reportedly found a magazine cutout of JonBenét in his backpack. He was released after his DNA also failed to match the crime scene, but the Ramsey family's longtime private investigator, Ollie Gray, criticized the Boulder police for not looking at him more closely. Olvia's high school friend, Michael Vail, also came forward and claimed that Oliva confessed to him that he "hurt a little girl" not long after the murder.
