Why People Are Losing Their Cool Over 1 Mom's Wall of Clocks
If you were to step into Yolanda Knox's new home, you might notice something different about her choice of decor. Hanging from her living room wall, you'll find not one but four clocks and their purpose isn't to make sure that her family of six keeps track of the current time.
Instead, each clock hangs above a baby picture and is set to the exact time of that child's birth. Above the clocks is a picture of Yolanda and her husband on their wedding day as well as the words, "In these moments, time stood still . . . " When Yolanda's nephew stopped by her home, he was blown away by this sentimental idea and tweeted a snapshot that quickly went viral.
The memory wall is a unique way to celebrate Yolanda's blended family and is bringing chills (as well as major design inspiration!) to those who come across it. "My husband and I have a blended family, both having two children from previous relationships, which is the reasoning behind the wall decor. If asked how many children do we have, we say four because together we are a one and there's no separation," Yolanda told POPSUGAR. "Sometimes in the blink of an eye, your children grow up so fast and you sit back a think I sure wish I could make time stand still!"
9 Reasons You Should Eat More Avocado For Your Mind, Body, and Spirit
We all know that avocado is arguably one of the most delicious foods around, a versatile ingredient that enlivens dishes from guacamole to toast, and even drinks like smoothies. And we've heard that it's a healthy food too, full of good fats and lots of vitamins.
But we wanted to dig down a little deeper. What, exactly, is so healthy about avocados? And how can we use this knowledge to increase our avocado consumption even further?
Here are some of the fun facts we discovered about one of nature's finest superfoods.
- They're high in "good fat." Avocados are packed with monounsaturated fats, which fight heart disease and can reduce potentially harmful cholesterol.
- Antioxidants are abundant in avocado. Avocados are full of antioxidants, which are believed to protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.
- Avocados are chock-full of vitamins. Amounts of the vitamins in avocado can vary, but the fruit is full of important vitamins K, C, B5, B6, and E.
- They've got protein! Unlike many other fruits, an avocado actually contains protein. The amount of protein depends on the size of the fruit, but about 100 grams of avocado contains 2 grams of protein.
- You don't have to eat avocado to reap benefits. OK, eating avocados is really good for you, but it's also a great addition to your beauty routine.
- You can substitute avocado in place of more fattening oils or butter. The California Avocado Association details how avocado can be a healthier alternative to regular baking ingredients.
- It might be a nutrient booster. The growers' group also suggests that avocado consumption could help the body absorb other nutrients from food; one study seems to support this idea.
- They're good for pregnant women. Avocados contain folate, which is essential for growing babies.
- And don't forget about the potassium. Avocados, like bananas, contain potassium, which is an important mineral to consume for a number of bodily functions and processes.
Before Pippa Honeymooned at This Eco-Chic Resort, the Obamas and Leo Stayed Here
Pippa Middleton's breathtaking wedding was only the start of her marital bliss. She and new husband James Matthews reportedly ran off to the faraway French Polynesian island of Tetiaroa to start their honeymoon at The Brando, a luxurious eco-chic resort beloved by A-list celebrities. And when we say A-list, we mean it; Michelle and Barack Obama were said to have enjoyed some post-presidency downtime there, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Barbara Streisand are known fans.
The all-inclusive resort is exceptional not only for its famous creator, the late legendary actor Marlon Brando, but also for its design, which is as stunning as it is environmentally conscious. The resort was constructed to impede as little as possible on the island's habitat and is carbon neutral and nearly self-sustainable. Each of the 35 timber-walled villas are designed to blend into the natural tree line and all building materials are local, renewable, or incorporate recycled elements. Additionally, The Brando uses an innovative deep seawater air-conditioning system and relies entirely on renewable energy sources including solar power and coconut oil. Add in the fact that the resort is as upscale as it is green, and we're more than a little impressed.
The villa accommodations include access to a private strip of white sand beach, an outdoor eating space, and a plunge pool - all of which are designed to "reflect Polynesian lifestyle and traditions," the resort's website explains. Despite these organic roots, the villas also include modern conveniences, such as WiFi, a media room, and cozy furnishings. Beyond the well-appointed private quarters, guests can enjoy an array of outdoor activities, including bicycling, snorkeling, diving, and paddleboarding. The resort also boasts two restaurants and a beach bar, a spa and wellness center, tennis courts, a library, and more.
Before you go getting too excited, though, consider that this resort is only for the deep pocketed. The smallest offering is a one-bedroom villa which starts at over $3,000 a night, and the largest offering, a three-bedroom villa, will run you about $10,000 a night. If you haven't fainted, keep reading to see pictures of the resort ahead or get an overview of The Brando's guest experience from the resort's concierge in the video below.

How to Eat If You're Trying to Lose Weight, According to a Dietitian
Like most people trying to lose weight, I listened to the experts. Instead of eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I started scheduling meals and snacks so I was eating five or six times a day. This worked out to noshing on something every couple hours - 7 a.m. breakfast, 9 a.m. snack, 12 p.m. lunch, 3 p.m. snack, 5:30 p.m. dinner, and sometimes a late-night snack. The purpose was to ensure my hunger was satiated to prevent feeling so famished at each meal that I'd overeat. But then I realized I was eating all day long and never feeling hungry. I was also not losing weight. I was watching the clock instead of listening to my body. So which is better?
When I asked certified dietitian Leslie Langevin, MS, RD, CD of Whole Health Nutrition to answer that question, she said, "It's better to eat when you are hungry. This is the concept of mindful eating." Every time you go to put something in your mouth, ask yourself if you are hungry.
She also adds that it's important to know what hunger is, since feeling hungry is important for weight loss. "Some people have stomach growling, some have salivation and increased food thought." Being aware of the hunger scale will help you decide when it's time to eat. You want to eat when you're at about a three on the hunger scale, feeling hungry with a growling belly. And the important thing here is to eat enough until you're at about a six on the hunger scale, where you feel satisfied but not stuffed or tired from eating too much.
Eating when you're hungry and eating just enough to feel satiated is the key. So instead of watching the clock and eating exactly at certain times of the day, eat when your body tells you it's ready to eat. That might mean eating three times a day, and that might mean eating six times a day.
Leslie does say that, "I think if you are a person who is a meal skipper or someone who doesn't really feel that hungry, setting times is a good idea." Some people forget to eat because they're so busy, or their work schedule only allows them to take breaks at certain times, so for these instances, it's important to schedule snacks and meals. But overall, if you're schedule allows for it, "go for the hunger/mindful eating approach."

Beyoncé's Best Maternity Style Moves, According to Her Stylist
dThe first thing I thought about Zerina Akers, Beyoncé's personal stylist, is that she's genuine. I had never heard someone speak so passionately about a partnership with a brand. But Zerina - who also works with Ava DuVernay, Yara Shahidi, and Chloe x Halle for red carpet events - is seriously excited about her new Dove campaign for the brand's invisible dry spray antiperspirant, which leaves zero white marks on clothes. "Whether we're on a shoot or on set, or I'm just trying to get someone out the door and onto the carpet, it's awesome and completely useful," Zerina told me enthusiastically.
She was just as excited to share her biggest fashion tips, both for expecting moms (aka celebrity client Beyoncé Knowles) and everyday women who just want to feel confident in their clothes. Zerina revealed everything from the perfect date-night outfit to the ultimate going-out maternity shoe, and, most importantly, breaks down Beyoncé's best pregnancy looks to date. Scroll to become enlightened by one of the coolest, most down-to-earth Hollywood stylists.

Here's the Otherworldly Beauty Who Plays Wonder Woman's Mom
While Gal Gadot is undeniably the star of Wonder Woman (it's right there in the title), another Amazonian goddess may catch your eye in the new superhero film. Hippolyta is queen of the Amazons, and she's very protective over her daughter, Princess Diana. Her steely stare could turn an ocean into a series of icebergs, and she's played by a women who you've very likely seen elsewhere.
Actress Connie Nielsen hails from Denmark. She got her start in the late '80s, making the transition from Danish TV to American films in the '90s. She scored a smaller part in 1997's The Devil's Advocate, but she probably first caught your attention as Mrs. Calloway in Rushmore, Lucilla in Gladiator (pictured below), or Nina in One Hour Photo.
However, if you're like me, you know her best as Dani Beck, the detective who momentarily replaces Olivia Benson as Elliot Stabler's partner on Law & Order: SVU. (LOL, like anyone could replace Olivia.) Additionally, she's had arcs on Boss, The Following, and The Good Wife. The more you know!
7 Options For Finding Cheap (or Free!) Fitness Classes
As boutique studios and class-sharing programs hike up prices, budget-minded fitness enthusiasts are feeling the squeeze. The popular cycling and barre studio Flywheel was the latest to raise prices of some classes, but it was certainly not alone. In 2016, ClassPass raised its prices, as did SoulCycle.
Don't stress, though - there are plenty of ways to work out without the high price tag. Some studios even offer classes for free - you just have to know where to look.
Karma Programs
One of the most rewarding ways to take fitness classes for free is through a karma program. A fitness studio - usually a yoga one - offers up free classes in exchange for working a shift. The work can involve menial tasks like cleaning bathrooms or sweeping the studios, but it's a great way to get to know the staff at a studio you really love. Better yet, many of these programs offer the chance for workers to become certified as an instructor at the studio at a reduced price.
These are sometimes hard to find, so keep an eye out on your studio's website or its social media pages. Don't be afraid to ask instructors if this is something offered - you'll often be surprised at their response.
The verdict: If you love a studio, a karma program is your best option for free classes.
"First Time Free" Offers
Most studios offer a discount or free class for first-time attendees. While these aren't always advertised, you can often find them by poking around on the studio's website. Some offer the first class completely free; others offer a discount on the first few classes.
The verdict: Whether the class is free or discounted, it's a good deal. Definitely take advantage of the prices.
ClassPass and FitReserve
On their faces, ClassPass and FitReserve aren't the cheapest options when it comes to fitness classes. They're a great way to try out different studios in your city; for a set price, you receive a certain number of classes at studios that list their classes through the site. There is, though, a way around the high prices. Both services offer discounts for first-time users - FitReserve is currently offering 20 percent off, while ClassPass has a first-month offer available for $19. These discounts change throughout the year, so be sure to watch for good ones.
It's important that if you can't swing the high price point of these services sans discount, you remember to cancel your membership before autorenew sets in.
The verdict: ClassPass and FitReserve are great options for the first month. After that, cancel your membership.
Zenrez
Zenrez is a program similar to ClassPass and FitReserve, but you don't have to pay for a membership. Sign up on the website, and book classes at your favorite studios through it. When you do, you'll be offered a discount at whichever studio you choose, but only as long as you take last-minute classes.
The verdict: Zenrez is perfect for someone who doesn't love to plan but loves to save money.
Groupon
Groupon is an oft-forgotten juggernaut in the fitness world. The discount site provides deals on everything from yoga classes to kickboxing at a discounted price. Not every studio has offers on Groupon, and they are often for first-time studio users, so be careful when you book your first class at a studio.
The verdict: With a little research, a Groupon can pay off big time.
Local Recreation Department
OK, stick with us here. We know your local recreation department is perhaps the last place you'd look for a chic and fun fitness experience. But many local rec departments offer classes at a steep discount. In New York, for example, the recreation department offers classes, both indoor and outdoor, completely free.
The verdict: It may be crusty, but your local rec center can help you save some serious cash.
Local Bloggers
Something to look out for when seeking cheap fitness are local sites that aggregate cheap or free fitness classes in your city. Fit For Free NYC and The Fit Crasher in DC are prime examples of great resources that do your work for you.
The verdict: Definitely follow local bloggers who aggregate fitness classes in your area. Let them do the heavy lifting!

13 Workouts Gisele Bündchen Uses to Keep Her Fit Victoria's Secret Angel Body

From the look of her Instagram feed, the Chanel beauty spokesperson, who recently revealed in a New York Times interview that photographers and designers were skeptical she could make it in the fashion industry, prefers outdoor activities that barely feel like working out, often recruiting partners (fitness instructors and her kids) to make the whole thing even more fun. FINALLY! There's a Harry Potter Movie About Snape and the Marauders
One of the most common desires in Harry Potter fan circles is for J.K. Rowling to write a series of books about the Marauders (aka Harry's father, James Potter, and his best friends from Hogwarts, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew). While Rowling has, sadly, shot down ideas about a Marauders prequel in the past, that doesn't mean that fans can't take things into their own hands! Enter: Severus Snape and the Marauders, a high-budget Harry Potter fan film, paid for and created entirely by diehard Potterheads.
The 25-minute film centers on Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs, and the Half-Blood Prince as they bid Hogwarts goodbye and enter the real wizarding world - and trust us, if you're a fan, you need to set aside time to watch the entire thing. The casting of Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew is particularly excellent, and the fan film is so high quality that you'll feel as if you're watching a brand-new Harry Potter movie.
Still not convinced that it's worth your time? Just read the creators' description of the plot:
Set in 1978, Severus Snape, James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Lily Evans have just graduated from Hogwarts School. As James and his friends, known only to each other as the Marauders, drink at a bar, Snape enters as well, hoping to find Lily. Knowing their dark future, and the part Snape might play in the First Wizarding War, James decides to do something about his long-time rival once and for all.
This isn't your average fan film . . . press "play" to experience the magic for yourself!

Strong Abs Start With This 7-Minute Workout
Get the printable version of this seven-minute HIIT workout here!
When it comes to high-intensity interval training (HIIT), the pros definitely outweigh the cons. While it may feel unpleasant to push your body to go faster and harder for that short time period, the rewards are worth it: HIIT helps you blast more belly fat, save time, and burn way more calories (even after your workout is long over) than a lower-intensity workout alone. A 2013 study published in the American College of Sports Medicine's Health and Fitness Journal found that a few minutes of training at almost your max can accomplish all of this in way less time than a traditional workout. How much less? Try just seven minutes total.
The ACSM's interval workout consists of 12 exercises, which should be done at an intensity of eight on a scale of 10; each exercise lasts 30 seconds, with a 10-second rest in between. Repeat the circuit if you'd like a longer workout. Keeping the intensity up - and the rest periods short - is key, so keep reading to learn the moves and then get going! You'll need a mat and a chair or bench.

18 Secrets From Sephora Employees, Including When to Buy Top-Selling Products
Sure, you shop there all the time (heck, you might as well live there), but how much do you really know about the beauty megastore you call your home away from home? We interviewed a handful of Sephora staffers (who alo prefer to keep their last names anonymous) to find out what it's like to work "the stage" - as we learned the main floor is called.
From getting paid (gratis) to attend pro makeup lessons concerns to wearing face uniforms (at least three eye shadow shades!) to helping women with a wide range of beauty (er, and sometimes relationship) concerns, read on as they let us in on the best, worst and weirdest parts of the gig.
1. They get gratis
Some women pay for pro beauty lessons. Sephora employees get rewarded to attend them.
"Each month, we have an hour-long learning session with a Sephora educator to learn about new products and brands coming to the store," says Kasey. "Once completed, we get sign-off to take home our gratis bag for that month. There are times when we receive the products we learned about in the session and others where it's just a bunch of random stuff."
When it comes to the gift of gratis, it especially pays to be a seasonal employee.
"I was originally hired during the holiday season (October through December)," she explains. "We don't have education sessions during that time so we end up getting four gratis bags after our January session. It's like Christmas for us!"
Another staffer Sarah adds: "One of our girls once told me 'I will never have to buy another piece of makeup again because Sephora not only pays for my bills, but feeds my addictions!"
2. Discounts are par for the course
If they don't manage to score what they want in their gratis bags, they can at least do so with a sweet discount.
"We get 20 percent off regular store items and 40 percent off the Sephora collection," says Chioma "Sometimes, we are even able to use our discounts on top of already-discounted items, but only for a limited time."
Discounts can range depending on the brand being purchased and the store in which you work.
Kelsey, who works at Sephora JCPenney, a pop-up Sephora located inside the department store, explains: "Our discount is 20 to 25 percent off almost the entire JCPenney store, including Sephora products, depending on method of payment. SiJCP employees cannot use our discount in freestanding Sephoras, and freestanding employees cannot use their discount at SiJCP."
3. There are exclusive sales
As for Sephora's sales, there are more than meets the consumer eye.
"A couple of months ago, the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette was on sale for $27, and all of the Sephora employees got it for only $18!," says Chioma.
"We have a once-a-year promotion where you get an extra 35 percent off plus your already existing discount!," adds Sarah.
4. There's a pecking order
As with any job, there's a ranking that determines what you do and where you can go (literally).
"We have our top manager and then our assistant managers, whom are called CELs," says Chioma. "CELs are usually the ones who make sure everything is running smoothly on the black tile (Sephora grounds), while the manager is taking care of things in the office. Managers also have access to certain areas that other Sephora employees are restricted from, such as the stock room and the trash bin room."
5. It's a stage
At some stores, managers are referred to by their staff as directors and assistant managers are labeled cast members.
"It feels like we are performing in a play and acting for our clients. You do get a new name once you get promoted and there are many, many variations for what you could be called!," says Sarah.
6. They're only as good as their last sale
At Sephora, the only thing next to a promotion is bragging rights.
"Our manager gives us an opportunity to shine when it comes to sales, says Chioma. "If we get a $300+ sale from a client that we personally helped, we are featured in the board room with a copy of that sales receipt next to our picture! It's the manager's way of saying 'you're bringing in heavy sales; keep it up!"
In case you were wondering, they're also reading those surveys.
"We are evaluated as a store on our sales and service, so we individually strive to each reach personal goals in sales and service," notes Kasey. "Earning great survey comments from clients that we work with at the beauty studio and making big skin care sales in my particular store, are the top two ways to get recognized by our team leaders for doing a great job."
7. They work in different worlds
If working at a freestanding store, you better be prepared to know your zone.
"In freestanding stores, employees are separated by world (skin care, hair care, makeup, fragrance, and cashier) but, at SiJCP, we get to do a little of everything!," says Kasey.
8. They don't need makeup experience
Good news! According to the pros we spoke to, you don't need to be a former makeup artist to get the gig.
"My hiring experience was based off of how well I interacted with a group of people, how much energy I brought into the room, and how warm, inviting and helpful I came off," says Chioma. "The hiring manager wasn't focused on how much I knew about makeup or how skilled I was at it - that spoke for itself on my face during the interview process. I was actually surprised that I didn't have to put makeup on a model in order to be hired!"
Of course, retail experience and a love of makeup can't hurt.
"Most of us are completely self-taught and come into the job with basic retail experience," adds Kasey. "Some of the girls have gone to hair school and/or work in a salon and therefore have some experience in the industry, but most of us start out as makeup-lovers who want to grow and expand our artistry and knowledge."
9. They have a beauty uniform
While no prior experience is required (it's learned on the job), employees are expected to put their best faces forward.
"When it comes to makeup, the rules are: you must wear some kind of complexion base (such as foundation or face powder), at least three eye shadow shades, a cheek color and a lip color," Chioma explains. "Hair has to be secured so it's not being messed with or in the way, and nails must be manicured and well groomed, but can't be extremely long so they aren't poking clients when we give them makeovers!"
Unlike some other uniforms, this one still allows for some creativity.
"Funky colors and tattoos are encouraged, as we love to have individuals expressing themselves!," says Sarah.
10. They leave the drama for the makeup
There are employees who tend to form closer bonds, but there aren't cliques per se, at least when it comes to Chioma's store.
"Our staff is fairly small since I work in a small town, so we usually have outings and events that we all do together, like go out for pizza and drinks and have holiday parties," says Chioma. "Our staff members get along with one another. If something rather scandalous happens, we discuss it in a mature way so there's no conflict in the future."
That said, you can kiss any secrets goodbye.
"Since our staff is so small, if one person gets super wasted at a college party, everyone finds out about it! It's usually something we laugh about at work the next day," Chioma explains.
11. Weekends and holidays are insane
If you're looking for some one-on-one time, you'll want to stop by on a weekday.
"Working in a mall on a Friday night is always interesting," says Kasey. "Weekends are when we do the most custom makeup appointments for special events, so sometimes it's tough to get walk-ins sat down at the beauty studio for assistance with other concerns. Holiday is so different from the rest of the year for obvious reasons!"
12. There's a list of hot-ticket products
With popular times come in-demand items.
"If you're coming in looking for the newest Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit ($40) or Too Faced Eye Shadow Palette, there's a very high chance that it's sold out. You might not be lucky trying to find Kat Von D's 'Lolita' Lipstick ($21) or Becca's 'Champagne Pop' Highlighter ($38), either," says Chioma.
And that mask that went viral? Forget about it.
"Everyone wants the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask ($34) right now!" notes Kasey. "It flies off the shelves and we get nonstop phone calls asking if we have it in stock. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette ($42) and the Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette ($32) have also been super popular and sell out quickly."
13. They stock up regularly
When it comes to nabbing the latest, the early bird gets the worm.
"The days that we get new shipments in are random, but we usually do restocks before the store opens," explains Chioma. "If you're looking to get first dibs on a new or sold-out product, I would recommend coming in during the morning time."
If you can't swing by in the morning, Kasey suggests giving your local store a ring.
"If you're looking for a specific item, our store can put it on hold or add you to a list so we can call you when we restock something," she says.
14. They get first dibs
Of course, this is one of those instances when it helps to be or know a Sephora employee.
"We get first dibs on all of the newest products and having the inside scoop on the upcoming collaborations and collections that are coming to the store in the future," says Chioma. "There's a special release coming in the Fall that I'm not allowed to say anything about yet, but it's going to be phenomenal!"
Sometimes, they luck out and get items before anyone is supposed to.
"We get early access to products if they're delivered early, and we're allowed to put products on hold for ourselves to make sure hot-ticket items don't sell out," adds Kasey, noting there are sometimes restrictions.
15. Their clientele ranges significantly
If you're looking for consistency, you might want to look elsewhere because, as Kasey puts it, no day at Sephora is the same.
"I have put lip gloss on a 4-year-old, helped a 95-year-old woman find the perfect retinol serum, built a first makeup collection for an upcoming drag queen, helped YouTube beauty gurus find the next products for their videos, and everything in between," explains Kasey.
16. They know you better than you think
Even though there's a wide range of clients and interests, there are some requests that come up over and over again.
"Some questions I get asked frequently are 'Can you help me find a foundation that won't make me look cakey?' or the classic 'I know nothing about makeup and I have an event this weekend - can you teach me everything?," says Chioma.
This includes regularly playing matchmaker.
"Our top request is probably to help clients match foundations," notes Kasey. "We also have people who come in and ask for online-only brands (like Kylie Cosmetics, Morphe and Jeffree Star)."
17. They're expected to get personal
Then again, there are always surprises.
"I once helped a woman who'd developed facial hair from a medication she was on color-correct and conceal her 5 o'clock shadow," says Kasey. "She was so embarrassed, but we are a judgment-free zone and I was so happy to help her to move past her insecurities."
Some customers hold nothing back.
"I think the weirdest thing that I've been asked at work is 'what's a good lipstick that won't smudge or rub off when I get intimate with my boyfriend?' In case you're wondering, I recommended Kat Von D's Liquid Lipsticks," Chioma offers.
18. They absolutely love what they do
All in all, they wouldn't have it any other way.
"The best part of the job is making women feel as loved and special as they can. The love you give out is only a fraction of the love you get back from your clients!" says Sarah.
After all, they're making a difference.
"It sounds corny, but we literally change lives! Making clients feel beautiful and getting to know them and seeing them come back is such a rewarding feeling! It makes it all worthwhile," adds Kasey.
The Surprising Treatment That Cures Swollen, Itchy Mosquito Bites
Not too long ago, my boyfriend and I went to the Dominican Republic to visit his family. I was prepared for the humidity, the fast-paced Spanish, and the endless servings of plantains, but I wasn't ready for the hordes of mosquitoes. "They bite foreigners more than natives," my boyfriend warned, and he was right. After just one evening (despite sleeping under a netted canopy!), my legs were covered in huge, blotchy marks that were nearly impossible to resist itching.
After seeing all my bites, my boyfriend's mother passed me a tub of Vicks VapoRub ($5), swearing it would cure them. I was pretty apprehensive. I seem to be particularly sensitive to mosquitoes, because each of my bites turns into a quarter-sized welt that mars my skin for over a week. But I tried out the remedy on a few spots, mostly out of respect to my potential mother-in-law. To my great surprise, not only was the itching quickly soothed, but each bump faded in a few short days! Turns out the product is used for many ailments in DR, including headaches, fevers, toenail fungus, and more. (It reminded me a lot of Windex in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.)
According to NYC dermatologist Dr. Neal Schultz, host of DermTV.com and creator of BeautyRx by Dr. Schultz, there's some solid science behind this homeopathic remedy. "Three of the ingredients (menthol, camphor, and thymol) are topical analgesics," he explained. "They create a cooling sensation and stop the itching."
The VapoRub was also responsible for flatting each bite, thanks to the formula's nutmeg oil. This essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties, as well as pain-relieving and redness-reducing benefits. (That's why it makes such a good at-home acne treatment.) Finally, the cedarleaf oil in Vicks acts as a natural mosquito repellent! Sometimes moms really do know best - I'll never go on another tropical vacation without stashing a jar in my suitcase.

Exclusive First Reveal of Huda Kattan's 12 Lip Strobe Metallic Liquid Lipsticks
In the midst of an over-saturated, holographic beauty world, Huda Kattan managed to launch a collection of metallic liquid lipstick collection that feels fresh. The entrepreneur and Instagram star looked for inspiration from both the past and the future when she developed her Lip Strobes, a 12-shade range launching on June 6 ($18 each, shophudabeauty.com). The hues play into both the frosty shades of the '90s and iridescent unicorn-inspired products of 2017.
"Right now people are obsessed with things that seem out of this world and give them some type of surprise," she told POPSUGAR via email. "The idea of something iridescent or duo chromatic seems a little mysterious and unique. They are kind of super '90s meets the future."
The colors may play into the existing trend, but each feels unique. There are both sheer and full-coverage shimmer formulas. Expect a range that varies from Enchanted, a pale pink with a pearlescent finish, to Fearless, a sparkly pigmented fuchsia.
"I am obsessed with duo chromes and iridescence right now!" she said of how the concept was born. "We were inspired when we were creating our Melted Strobe for our 3D Highlighters. We were just playing with shimmers and glitters and somehow this was created."
Huda went on: "For the colors we wanted something that would almost change in some lights or on top of certain colors. All of the glosses have serious shimmer, some are opaque and full of pigment and shine, while others are duo chromatic and iridescent."
The vlogger admitted she is not always a fan of lip glosses, so she was extra careful when crafting these. Don't expect the sticky, goopy ones you actually wore back when *NSYNC was together. "I hate gloss, and I am super fussy with what I wear," she said. "This feels so luxurious and hydrating while wearing. It's not sticky and the strobes feel super comfortable on the lips."
"I hate gloss, and I am super fussy with what I wear. This feels so luxurious and hydrating."
She even perfected the applicator to enhance the cozy wearability. "The strobes also have a precision, heart-shaped wand which glides on an even coat for a luminous finish giving you an extra smooth application," she added.
When it came to naming, she simply picked adjectives that would cater to your moods. "The names were inspired by our Liquid Mattes - we thought of it as the next step to your pout," Huda explained. "So we thought we would make it a way to describe the personality behind the Liquid Matte. So you could be a Ritzy (Lip Strobe) Trophy Wife (Liquid Matte), or a Shameless (Lip Strobe) Trendsetter (Liquid Matte) and really feel something towards the look you floss."
Though we knew it would be like choosing between children, we asked which color is her favorite. "This is so hard but I'd have to say that I am obsessed with Snobby," Huda revealed. "It's one of the shades which took the longest to create, and I'd bathe in it if I could! It's a semi-sheer pink shade with gold and pink big shimmers!"
According to Huda, the best way to wear the Lip Strobe is to glide it across your pout, and then take some off with a tissue. "You can remove the gloss by blotting off the excess, which will leave you with a glistening shimmer without the gloss." She also recommends layering it on thoroughly for an intensely pigmented, shiny style, or dabbing it in just the center of your pout for a subtle contoured effect.
Huda even tried wearing them on her eyelids, which she teased on social media! "I never realized this would work so well until a day before our campaign shoot!" she enthused. "They look ahhhmazing on the lids, and you can wear them on top of a shadow or just as is. For easy application, a small flat brush works nicely or even your fingers will do the trick. I would only recommend adding a small amount and for short periods, since it is a gloss and will move around." Basically: do it for Instagram, and then wash it off before you attend a rooftop soiree in the heat.
Before you worry about removing these buzzy lipsticks, start planning how you'll get your hands on them when they launch on Monday! And as you count down the minutes until you can hit "add to cart," see every shade and swatch - exclusively here first!
Why My Divorce Made Me Happier
Divorce can be extremely difficult, but as the process is finalized it can be extremely peaceful . . . or at the least, even in the midst of the stress and strain, it can be a positive event. For many people, the toughest part is in the first two stages: the first is when you are deciding whether to divorce or not. The decision to divorce can be harder than the divorce itself, as you're filled with anxiety and sadness. The second stage is the separation process in which both parties begin to cut ties.
Divorce shouldn't be considered trivial or an easy way out of a marriage, because more times than not it takes immense bravery to divorce and move forward with your life. But once you're over the tough part, there are so many reasons divorce can bring you happiness.
1. No More Doubt
That period when we were deciding whether to divorce or not was so hard. It was full of anxiety, sadness, confusion, and pain. I can't express enough how difficult that period was for me and, I am sure, my ex. Making the decision to divorce was hard because we had invested years together and had a child. My divorce made me happier and, I am sure, him as well, simply because the decision was made and we could move forward.
2. Knowing What to Look For
My ex and I are very different, and as time went on, those differences became more apparent. My divorce made me happier because I knew I could make the right choice for me in terms of picking a partner whose values best reflected mine. I don't think I understood before I got married how important it would be to have both significant common ground and a matching worldview in my lifetime partner.
3. Reconnecting With Myself
Typically, as people start to retreat from a marriage, the criticism is at an all-time high. There were things about me that my ex didn't like or didn't appreciate, yet they weren't things I could change in the long run. Being single and reconnecting with who I am and what I am made me much happier. Honestly, I needed to build my self-esteem, and that's exactly what these past three years single have done.
4. On My Own Terms
When you have two people with vastly different worldviews and opinions, it's natural for both parties to feel as if "they just can't be themselves." My divorce allowed us to be ourselves. I'm able to live life on my terms and create a world that best suits my sensibilities, beliefs, and strengths.
5. A Learning Experience
It sounds very Zen, and while I am not Buddhist, divorce was a great teacher. It was a wicked and cruel teacher at times, but it taught me so much about myself that perhaps I would have never learned had I stayed married. No one wants stress and grief, but these lessons led me to become a better, happier, less anxious, and calmer person. Our lessons can really make us stronger, if we pay attention to the things we are supposed to be learning.
6. Stronger Parent-Child Relationship
Often, parents who have been divorced say that they end up having better relationships with their kids after divorce because of shared custody time. In that shared time, you've got to make the most of it. For a variety of reasons, the divorce created a strong relationship between my daughter and me. Of course, when I look back to my stay-at-home mom days, I fondly cherish the intense time home I had with her day in and day out, but spending so much time with my daughter on my own has really helped us to develop a special relationship. Now I can be myself around her without that judgment.
7. Not Lonely, Just Alone
Being lonely in a partnership is hard; being alone is not. Sure, a partner would be great, but being alone has many benefits. The most important part is I am alone on my terms, not lonely outside of my terms.
Divorce has had some real zingers and valleys. To say it hasn't would be a lie. However, I truly feel happy. I feel like I have grown as a person and will be an amazing partner when the right person comes along. I'm ready now!
Rare GIF of a Dying Star Will Make You Rethink Your Existence
The Hubble Telescope recently celebrated its 26th birthday, and in those years it has given us an incredible look at the vast world we live in. Case in point: a rare peek at a dying star.
From 2002 to 2006, Hubble captured close-up images of an enormous star named V838 Moncerotis, which sits 20,000 light-years away from Earth. Back then, the star emitted a powerful flash of light that illuminated the dust and gas that surrounded it.
"Hubble's exceptionally sharp focus of V838 Mon offered a ring-side seat at the slow death of the star and excited astrophysicists with the chance to study the physics of the light, matter and microscopic dust of the interstellar medium," writes The Conversation, which offers more details about the life of the star and the cause of that light flash.
Below you can see a time-lapse video of the photos taken by the Hubble. Looks fake, doesn't it?

9 Things You Should Absolutely Avoid Before Getting Laser Hair Removal
Before you permanently do anything to your body, make sure you know what you're getting into. That includes laser hair removal. It may seem like a no-brainer: zap unwanted hair with a wand, and poof! It's gone. But it's not that simple.
First, choose a place to get laser where the pros will be honest with you. I was hesitant about trying it myself, but after reading reviews about different spots, I decided to laser my armpits at Romeo and Juliette in NYC. I liked that technicians there would not just do the treatment on any part of my body. For example, they did not want to do it on my upper arms, where the hair growth is hormonal. This made me feel confident that the areas they did take on were actually treatable. While I am still treating my pits, the hair has gone from coarse and dark to soft and blonde.
Along the way I learned more tips from the spa's owner Christian Karavolas. For instance, you can't do laser when you have a spray tan! I had no idea. Keep reading to discover why that is a problem plus eight other things to never do when getting laser hair removal.
Tip: Avoid self-tanner
Why: "You should always avoid self-tanner when you know you have a session booked for a few reasons," Karavolas said. "It is best to wait at least four weeks after you have used a self-tanner before getting your next treatment. Having self-tanner on your skin may increase the chances of having unwanted side effects, like blisters or burns. Also, self-tanners darken the surface of the skin which creates a competing target for the light energy of the laser - the other competing target being the color in the hair. By darkening the surface of the skin, more laser energy will be absorbed at the skin's surface rather than at the base (bulb) of the hair follicle, which is where we want the light energy to be absorbed to result in a good treatment."
Tip: Avoid actual tanning
Why: "Like the self-tanning rule of thumb, we usually recommended to avoid general sun exposure for at least seven-10 days before and after your appointment," Karavolas explained. "Wait a good six months at minimum, if you are prone to getting hyperpigmentation as a response to treatments (acne, burns, scratches etc). Generally, it is best not to have a tan at all if you are planning treatments because if the color of your skin is closer to the color of your hair, then the laser's setting may not be as aggressive, and you may need more treatments to remove all the hair.
He went on: "Avoiding the sun and applying sunblock daily are highly recommended in general while receiving treatments. This helps to minimize the risk of side effects, such as burns, blisters, and pigment changes. Tanned skin can be more prone to these types of complications with laser hair removal. Remember, a tan is essentially a bruise on the skin, and you don't want your skin to be compromised for laser hair removal."
Tip: Avoid antibiotics
Why: "Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity," he noted. "Photosensitivity is inflammation of the skin induced by a combination of light and certain medications or substances. The skin becomes more prone to elements of heat damage including blisters, rashes, fever, fatigue, joint pain, etc. We recommend that you check with your personal physician prior to receiving laser treatments if you are currently taking a longterm antibiotic. If you become ill and begin taking an antibiotic mid-treatment, you will need to stop the medication for seven days before your next laser treatment. You should always consult with your physician for your personal needs."
Tip: Avoid certain vitamins
Why: "You should always check with your family physician for your personal needs, but in general, we suggest you avoid supplements that are blood thinners and generally vitamin E in large doses," Karavolas said. "Also, a lot of clients don't think about it, but if you are taking a hair growth supplement, that may have an adverse effect on your treatments."

Tip: Avoid Makeup
Why: "We don't recommend applying normal makeup or concealer before your sessions," he explained. "Laser is attracted to pigment and melanin, and anything that is of dark color will be attracted to the laser and could make it less active. You can apply mineral makeup directly after treatment to cover any noticeable redness, but we would also advise you to remove this thoroughly in the evening to make sure the skin can recover. We suggest you limit the products you put on your skin so you have less chance of irritation."
He added: "It is best to wait 24-48 hours - depending on your skin's recovery - to put full-coverage makeup on. If you are self-conscious of your skin, we recommend making your appointments in the evening after work or school, so that you do not need to worry about later commitments and the need to put makeup on right away. When you do cleanse your skin, make sure to use tepid water with a fragrance-free cleanser and a clean towel to dry the skin. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliators and if you have excess redness, apply a layer of aloe vera to reduce the redness."
Tip: Avoid deodorant
Why: "Deodorant absolutely needs to be avoided, or washed off, prior to a session treating the armpit area," he said. "Some deodorants leave a residue. It will deflect the laser light because (as with makeup detailed above) the laser will be attracted to the residue and will significantly reduce the effectiveness of the laser. You should also wait 24 hours post treatment to apply deodorant as you do not want to irritate the area post sessions."
Tip: Skip laser if you have a cold sore or breakout
Why: "Active oral or genital herpes infection are a temporary contra-indication for the procedure," Karavolas noted. "However, once it has healed, treatment can be done. If you are prone to cold sores, we suggest you take prophylactic anti-viral medication before your sessions to prevent an outbreak. [Talk to your doctor first.] Additionally, if you have an active cold sore, the heat from the laser would make it worse as laser causes heat on the skin, which in turn would make the cold sore much worse. Avoid laser treatments altogether until you are healed."
Tip: Also pass on laser if you have an acne breakout
Why: "If you have an acne breakout, it is best to avoid laser treatments," he said. "As explained with regards to cold sores, the heat of the laser may excite the glands and increase breakouts." He added that even if you have a breakout near the area you're getting laser, your zits could get worse. Talk to your dermatologist about clearing up your acne before getting laser on or near the area.
Tip: Avoid laser around the time of the month
Why: During your cycle, there is more sensitivity towards pain than any other time of the month, therefore we suggest that the person waits until their cycle is over to continue treatments. There is no contra-indication with having laser hair removal performed during one's cycle except for elevated sensitivity towards pain.
