Princess Diana Was the First Royal Bride to Have This Before Getting Engaged

Princess Diana's time as a royal was pretty groundbreaking. Aside from making a difference with her numerous charities and work in the community, the late mother of Prince William and Prince Harry proved time and time again that she was no ordinary princess (and not just because she wasn't afraid to stand up to the royal family). While her marriage to Prince Charles on July 29, 1981 was declared a national holiday by the UK, there's another reason why their nuptials were historic. Diana was the first royal bride to have had a paying job before her engagement.

After attending a finishing school in Rougemont, Switzerland, for one term in 1978, Diana returned to London. She took a series of low-paying jobs before finding employment as a kindergarten teacher at the Young England School. She continued to work at the school until her engagement to the Prince of Whales in February 1981. And this certainly paved the way for other royal brides. Her daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, was the UK's first royal bride with a university degree.

Why the Claim That "Britain Is Reeling" Is Just Wrong, According to an Actual Brit

In the aftermath of the terror attack that took place in London on June 3, various outlets fumbled in the way they referred to the UK's reaction to the violence. After The New York Times ran a headline that framed the nation as "still reeling," many outlets and anchors began to use the same phrase - which many Brits took issue with. On Twitter, a defiant hashtag emerged: #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling. On the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver also weighed in on the American media's clumsy coverage.

At the top of the segment, Oliver took a few minutes to address the terror attack and say a few words to those affected. "As a British person living in America, I feel compelled to address a certain theme that emerged through American coverage of this tragedy," he said. The show then played a few clips that exemplified the doomsday mentality many major outlets perpetuated.

Oliver wasn't having it. "In no way is Britain under siege," he insisted. "Is it upset? Yes. Is it pissed off? Oh, you f*cking bet it's pissed off. But to say it's under siege and that its people are reeling is to imply that it's somehow weak enough to be brought to its knees by three monumental assh*les. That, as an idea, is insulting."

Yes, You Can Actually Still Drink Coffee While You're Pregnant

A hotly debated topic for moms-to-be is whether drinking coffee is safe for you and baby. To get to the bottom of this, I checked with Hansa Bhargava, MD, senior medical officer at WebMD. According to her, drinking coffee is totally OK, as long as it's in moderation.

"Consuming caffeine in small doses during pregnancy is considered safe. Although there has been research showing that if you drink more than two cups, you could be at risk for miscarriage, most experts agree that less than 200 mg of caffeine a day is fine. That's about one cup of coffee," she said.

While admittedly there isn't a lot of research on this particular topic, sources, like this BabyCenter article from dietitian Keli Hawthorne, advise that it's wise to err on the side of caution and cut back on your caffeine if you usually consume a lot of it. Your daily one cup, generally about 10 ounces, should be enough to perk you up in the morning without causing any dangerous side effects for your baby. It's also important to note, though, that you should make sure to know how many milligrams of caffeine are in your cup. Not all 10-ounce cups are created equal, but the 200 mg limit is the number to remember.

So there you have it, mamas! You can sip your coffee without worry.

Techie Gifts For the Dad Who Doesn't Know Internet

Earlier this year, I bought my dad a nice up-to-date computer, which was a huge step up from his old 2001 Gateway. Now on a weekly basis, I field calls left and right that involve questions like, "how do I stop typing in big capital letters?" or the classic, "how do I comment on my Facebook page?" If you also have a dad like this, you know it's not always easy getting them on track with the current technology. This Father's Day, gift him with a cool techie gadget that he might be able to use. It will most likely involve you overseeing the introductory tutorial and maybe more phone calls, but getting him something he can learn to love is totally worth it. Check out some of these devices and see which one is right for your dad.

The Heartbreaking Thing Prince William Told Diana After She Lost Her Title in the Divorce

When Prince Charles and Princess Diana ended their marriage in 1996, their oldest son, Prince William, was just 14 years old. At the time, he was a student at Eton College studying biology, art history, and geography and playing soccer and water polo. He hadn't yet begun his official royal duties or military career. For all intents and purposes, he was a normal teenager - besides, you know, the whole being king one day thing - and most normal teenagers are pretty bummed about their parents splitting up. But as second in line to the British throne, William recognized his (future) power and made a promise to his mother that is both incredibly adorable and incredibly heartbreaking.

Charles and Diana's divorce was finalized in August 1996, but some drama surrounding her royal title ensued. Queen Elizabeth II reportedly wanted to let Diana keep the style of her royal highness, but Charles was "adamant" that she give it up - instead, she was given the title Diana, Princess of Wales. The loss of the honorific separated Diana from the rest of the family in such a way that she had to curtsy to those who had it, including her own children. William is said to have comforted his mother after the loss of her title by saying, "Don't worry, Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am king."

Tragically, Diana was killed in a car crash just a little over a year after William made his touching vow to her. In the decades after her death, both he and his brother, Harry, have opened up about their mother, sharing stories about their time with her as well as honoring her impact, both with the charities they support and the traditions she's passed on to them.

With the help of our readers, as well as guidance from Sarah Tilton, Britax's child passenger safety technician and chair of the National Child Passenger Safety Board, we've rounded up 11 of the most common car seat safety issues faced by both new parents and parents transitioning their child from one car seat to another.

Tracee Ellis Ross Shares Her "Sexy and Strong" Workout and Favorite Gluten-Free Snack

Though comedian and Golden Globe winner Tracee Ellis Ross has been an athlete her whole life, she's hung up her cross-country running shoes to focus on another workout, by a different Tracy. "I do a lot of Tracy Anderson Method; I really love that method," she told POPSUGAR. "I love being in the heat; we work out in a really hot room there, and it really works for me. I love sweating; it's one of the ways that I process everything that goes on during the week and move it through my body. It's always really loud music and great music, which I love, and the workout changes every 10 sessions, so even if you take classes, it changes every 10 days, it changes . . . I love that! I never get bored."

"I feel sexy, and strong, and beautiful when I'm working out."

"[Growing up,] I was a track runner, I ran cross-country," she said. "I've always been somebody who stays active and likes working out and sweating and pushing myself . . . I used to do Spinning before it was SoulCycle, and I was a big Spinner in the early 2000s. I've done weight training; I was a big runner for years, but I don't have great knees anymore . . . I'm 44, which seems appropriate that they would give out at a certain point!" Tracee combated her knee injury by trying Tracy Anderson five years ago, and she hasn't looked back.

"I'm incredibly competitive and I like to compete with myself and get better at things and do them correctly - that really works in the Tracy Anderson Method."

She said that TAM customizes her workout to her needs and her schedule, which has made it easier for her to stay active consistently. "I've been doing it for about five years. I feel sexy, and strong, and beautiful when I'm working out. The movements are very dancer-esque, and I've been really enjoying it." While she said there is an emphasis for her on keeping her appearance and physique in tip-top shape, she also loves fitness for the mental and health benefits. "I'm a big advocate for keeping my body moving," she said. "It is definitely vain, and it is about aesthetics, but truthfully I feel better about myself when I work out. I sleep better, my back feels better, my knees feel better . . . when I'm moving and keeping my body long and strong, I feel like I'm more productive and I get more done in a day."

"It is about aesthetics, but truthfully I feel better about myself when I work out."

As for the diet that's keeping her body long and strong? Tracee said, "I really love beautiful food" but "my schedule in the last three years since Black-ish started has not allowed me the space to cook, which is not great." Because she can't cook for herself often, it's important that she sticks to her healthy lifestyle.

She says she never deprives herself ("I eat chocolate if I want chocolate"), and she loves potato chips and microwave popcorn (particularly "Boulder Canyon gluten-free chips . . . they're fantastic"), but she has some pretty basic rules and said, "I eat incredibly healthy." What does that mean to Tracee? "I don't really eat any dairy, sugar, or gluten."

That said, she does have her "vice" - salty foods. "I'm a big salty person; I love olives, I love potato chips, I love French fries. I eat a lot of all the other things that I eat [besides dairy, sugar, and gluten]. I am not somebody who will sit down and eat a small bag of potato chips . . . I eat the whole bag!" We're really digging this balance she's got goin' on.

27 of Selena Gomez's Sexiest Instagram Selfies

Calling Selena Gomez the queen of Instagram is no exaggeration. The "Bad Liar" singer is still sitting comfy on the throne with the most followers ever on the social media platform, and her many sultry and pouty selfies might have something to do with that.

We conducted a deep analysis of Selena's Instagram feed (taking a little detour through her makeup artist Hung Vanngo's account) and found that the star's selfies can be divided into three categories: the beauty look snap, where she shows off her hair and makeup before a big event (like the Met Gala, above); the moody photo, where she looks into the distance or fingermouths; and the smiley picture, where she shows off a moment with her boyfriend, The Weeknd. Keep reading to see all of her best selfies.

Coldplay Performs "Fix You" at the Manchester Concert and Brings Everyone to Tears

Ariana Grande promised to return to Manchester for a star-studded benefit concert after a terrorist attack killed 22 people and injured 119 at her May 22 tour stop, and the event was an unbelievable success. Not only did the British Red Cross raise over three million dollars, but all of the performances were showstoppers. Once Ariana knocked it out of the park with her own set, Coldplay took the stage to sing their emotional ballad "Fix You." People in the audience sang along through tears, and some formed a big heart with police and security. It was clearly one of the most moving, cathartic moments of the night.

8 Features on iOS 11 That'll Make You Wish It Was Out Already

At Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5, the company unveiled a series of new software and product updates. In addition to the new macOS High Sierra, watchOS 4, and tvOS 11, Apple introduced iOS 11. The new software update will come with the following new features:

  • Pay your friends back with Apple Pay: Send money to your friends and family via Apple Pay in an iMessage.
  • Control Center has a new look: Instead of swiping back and forth to access your music and other features, all of the controls are now in one screen.
  • Siri is getting better: The voices will sound a bit more human and Siri will be able to translate English instantly into Chinese, Spanish, French, German, and Italian.
  • Do Not Disturb is coming for drivers: You can now turn on do not disturb if you're driving. Now, if someone contacts you and this feature is on, they'll receive a message that you're driving. As a driver, you won't even get a notification, so that you're fully concentrated on the road. However, you can list certain people who can reply with "urgent" to get through to you.
  • The camera is getting better again: If you love portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus, you'll now be able to take low-light portraits with iOS 11.
  • Do more with your photos: The memories feature in Photos will now use machine learning to identify specific events or figures like a wedding or a pet. You can also create movies out of photos taken in portrait mode, as well as trim live photos, or add a long exposure or seamless loop to one.
  • Use Apple Music with your friends: "Shared Up Next," lets your friends add music to a playlist without interrupting the current song. The Apple Music app will also show what your friends are listening to.
  • Maps has some needed updates: The Maps app will now include detailed floor plans for malls and airports in major cities, as well as show you your speed limit and give you lane guidance.

Ahead, see some photos of the new features.

The Touching Story Behind This Bride's "Something Blue" Will Bring You to Tears

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue." We've seen brides incorporate everything from fun shoes to family heirlooms as their "something blue," but Ali Ferrell from Cape Girardeau, MO, included her 92-year-old uncle instead. Bill Eblen, a US Marine Corps sergeant during World War II, fell ill with pneumonia and wasn't sure whether or not he'd be able to make his niece's wedding.

"'When we first got engaged, I knew that I wanted to include Uncle Bill in a special way," Ali told KFVS 12.

When the nurses asked Bill what his goal was, he responded, "'I want to be something blue in your wedding.'" He took his recovery seriously during his extended stay in rehabilitation and was able to go down the aisle and stand beside Ali at the altar.

"There wasn't a dry eye in the church when he was escorted down the aisle in his dress blues," Ali wrote on Facebook. "It was such an honor to have him serve as my "Something Blue" on my wedding day and a memory that will last a lifetime."

Usher's Reason For Missing the One Love Manchester Concert Is Actually Really Sweet

Usher was among the list of esteemed musicians set to perform at Ariana Grande's One Love Manchester concert on Sunday, an event held to benefit and honor the victims of the bombing that occurred during Ariana's Manchester show on May 22. Along with Miley Cyrus, Coldplay, and Pharrell Williams, Usher was scheduled to hit the stage between Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, but ended up being a no-show. Manchester native Liam Gallagher performed in his place, and disappointed fans soon took to Twitter to ask, "Usher, where art thou?"

The singer did tweet out a link to the One Love Manchester live stream, but his absence begged a few questions: Was he sick at home? Did his flight get canceled? Was he an actual usher helping guests to their seats? The real reason for his not being there is a lot more understandable. According to an Instagram posted on Monday, Usher said that he missed the concert because one of his sons was having his first day "at Camp Kudzu, one of the few summer camps for kids living with diabetes." Aww. Read on for some fan reactions, as well as Usher's explanation.

How the Internet Became My Saving Grace as a Gay Teen in the South

Ben J. Pierce is a musician and YouTube personality.

Growing up in the South, gay representation was something I desperately yearned for in my life. I had a million questions - and a million more fears - about this identity that was becoming more and more evident to me with each passing day. What did it mean for my life? What if someone found out? How would my world react to this small detail about who I was that I had never seen or heard about in the people around me?

In the midst of the uncertainty I found my saving grace: the internet. I vividly remember sitting in my room, alone, with the door shut secretly watching LGBT YouTubers, coming-out videos, films featuring gay characters - anything I could get my hands on to provide insight into a piece of me I was freshly discovering. These resources became the light at the end of the tunnel that pulled me through.

When I was 14, I began creating a project called "Little Game" that would later change my life. At this point, I had never produced or recorded music or even thought of producing and directing a music video. But most importantly: I had never publicly spoken about my journey with gender expression and sexuality. I was terrified to say the least. I would stay up all night doubting that I was ready to stand up for something so important. Yet something inside of me could not let go of the determination to release this video into the world.

On Oct. 25 of 2015, I released the music video for "Little Game." I remember thinking to myself I would be so lucky if 10,000 people saw it. Within a week it had passed 100,000 views, and within a month it passed a million.

And while the sheer numbers were rewarding, what impacted me the most was the effect the video had on those who watched it. People of all ages and positions on the spectrum of identity commented stories of their own personal journey in self-discovery. Suddenly young kids stuck in unsafe environments looked to me for inspiration, and those who have bravely paved the way for queer youth gifted me with wisdom and encouragement. I became overwhelmed with such love and support for something I once feared so heavily about myself.

In that moment, it occurred to me that I have become a piece of the LGBT representation I so desperately longed for as a kid, and I am so proud and grateful to be able to use my voice to help and elevate those like me across the world. I feel as though I've found my home in the LGBT community, and it is my personal mission statement to be the unapologetic artist and creator I always needed when I was younger.

Republican Congressman Says "God Will Take Care of" Climate Change

Scientists have often dispelled the myth that climate change is not a real problem, but Tim Walberg, a congressman from Michigan, says there's a reason he's not worried about the drastic changes happening on earth. While speaking at a town hall in Coldwater, MI, recently, Walberg explained why he believes God, and only God, will be able to "take care of" climate change. Read his full quote ahead.

"I believe there's climate change. I believe there's been climate change since the beginning of time. I think there are cycles. Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No. Why do I believe that? Well, as a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I'm confident that, if there's a real problem, he can take care of it."

The problem with Walberg's theory is that it has been proven that humans are the main cause of global warming. If we don't take action to decrease the amount of pollution we add into the atmosphere, it could have disastrous effects for our planet. Maybe someone could give Walberg a copy of Leonardo DiCaprio's eye-opening documentary about climate change. Just a suggestion.

Natalie Portman Just Snagged a $6.5M Home Perfect For Her Growing Family

A little more than three months after giving birth to their second child, Natalie Portman and her husband just purchased a lovely home for their blossoming family. An oasis hidden in the hills of Santa Barbara, CA, the modern residence boasts four bedrooms and five bathrooms, TMZ reports. A mix of steel, concrete, and glass, Natalie's contemporary new home also features a pool and patio complete with a large fire pit. Situated on 10.4 acres of land with stunning panoramic views, there's plenty of room for her kids to enjoy outdoor playtime and fun in the sun.

Though the seller reportedly wanted $6.995 million for the abode, Natalie only shelled out $6.5 million for it (and we say "only" with a grain of salt). Scroll on for a peek at Natalie's gorgeous new house.

Dad's Crushing Warning About the Common Household Item That Killed His Toddler

Through a stream of hot tears, George Asan speaks out about the common household item that killed his daughter: a button battery.

Although 2-year-old Francesca didn't choke on the small battery and die from lack of oxygen, George wants parents to know that this is exactly why these items are even more dangerous than many realize. After Francesca swallowed the button battery without her parents knowing, it started to corrode as soon as it came into contact with fluid internally. This caused internal bleeding as the battery burned the child.

"It is very hard for me to talk about losing Francesca. I feel guilty. Unfortunately, we didn't see anything wrong, no signs," George said in a clip made with Child Accident Prevention Trust to warn other parents. "We found that it was a button battery and straight away I went to the cabinet and we had the 3D glasses for the TV. It was one of the spare batteries, in the original box of the glasses, which was in another box."

More than 3,400 kids swallowed button batteries in 2010, according to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and symptoms could include sudden crying, drooling, decreased eating or drinking, hoarse voice, chest or abdominal pain, trouble swallowing, vomiting, and blood in saliva and stool.

George hopes that parents share this film to raise awareness for not only how dangerous these button batteries are but also how common they are throughout the home. From musical greeting cards and toys to thermometers and key fobs, a range of everyday items come with these batteries and, sometimes, spare batteries.

According to the CAPT, parents shouldn't wait to seek immediate medical assistance if they suspect their child ate one - even if the kid isn't choking or showing any signs of distress.

"If a button battery, particularly a lithium button battery, gets stuck in the throat or gullet, energy from the battery can react with saliva to make the body create caustic soda. This is the same chemical used to unblock drains," the CAPT website says. "This can burn a hole through the throat and can lead to serious internal bleeding and death. The reaction can happen in as little as two hours."

The CAPT warns that these batteries are also dangerous if they get stuck in a child's nose or ear, but the lack of symptoms after a child swallows it can make this even more dangerous. "Unfortunately it may not be obvious that a button battery is stuck in a child's throat. There are no specific symptoms associated with this," the website said. "They may appear to have a stomach upset or a virus. The lack of clear symptoms means it may not be obvious that your child has swallowed a button battery until it's too late. This is why it is important to be vigilant with spare button batteries in the home and the products that contain them."

These are tips to follow if you think that your child swallowed a button battery:

  • Seek immediate medical help.
  • Bring the packaging if possible to help doctors identify what type of button battery was potentially ingested.
  • Do not let them eat, drink, or try throwing it up.
  • Do not try to wait it out to see if symptoms develop.

The 1 Thing You Should Always Have With You When You Fly With Kids

Although airplane pilots do their best to let passengers know when the plane is going to hit a rough patch, turbulence can be somewhat unpredictable and unexpected, which is why the crew always asks that you sit with your seat belt on even when the light is off. However, many airlines don't require children under 2 to even have a seat to themselves, meaning the smallest, most vulnerable passengers could be without proper restraints in the case of unexpected turbulence. This is why Sarah Tilton, Britax's child passenger safety technician and chair of the National Child Passenger Safety Board, says parents should always have a car seat when traveling with their children.

"Having a car seat makes the whole environment less stressful for everyone," Tilton told POPSUGAR. Not only does a car seat mean your child is kept just as safe as they would be in a car, but "the parent is not worrying about trying to hold the child down when they get a little active," which can help to eliminate some behavioral issues.

Additionally, Tilton makes note of the fact that parents can't really be to their children what a car seat can during a flight. "We may be sitting there holding our child with one hand and a drink with another . . . so are we really going to be prepared to hold our child tight when we need to? Turbulence can be so unexpected, so children need to be properly secured."

Besides, as Tilton said, "Our children are our most precious cargo," so why would we not put as much thought into safety on a plane ride as we do every time we strap them securely into the car? To help protect your precious cargo, here are a few of Tilton's tips for flying with a car seat.

  1. Call to make your flight reservation rather than doing it online. Most parents don't want to buy a seat for their child under 2 since it's considered legal by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to travel with them on your lap. "I often tell parents to call the airline to make a reservation to talk to someone about discounts for children under the age of 2," Tilton said.
  2. "If you choose not to purchase a seat for your child, go to the gate with your car seat and ask if the flight is full," she suggested. "If the flight is not full, the airline should allow you to take your car seat on board and use an empty seat for your child without making that purchase. But only if the flight is not full." If you find out the flight is full, you can check the car seat at the gate, usually free of charge.
  3. Don't fly on busy days during busy times. Tilton said: "Pick flight times that are not popular (so not Mondays, Fridays, or Thursday afternoons) because that's when business people are flying and flights are going to be full. Airlines are less likely to be accommodating then. Fly red-eyes, or take early-morning or late-night flights that aren't typically full."

Although the FAA doesn't require children under 2 to have their own seat, its website urges parents to "secure your child in a CRS [Child Restraint Systems] or device for the duration of your flight" because "your arms aren't capable of holding your child securely, especially during unexpected turbulence." However, not all car seats are government approved, so the FAA asks parents to make sure the seat has the statement "This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft" printed on it before heading to the airport.

Not only does flying with a car seat make life easier for every party involved (aside from the installation process while everyone is trying to board - that's kind of a nightmare, but it's worth it), Tilton pointed out another reason taking your child's car seat along for the flight makes sense even after you've touched down at your destination: "you're going to need a car seat at the other end anyway."
