This Genius Beauty Blender Cleaning Hack Only Takes 1 Minute

The majority of the beauty world bows down to beauty blending sponges. Despite a few good efforts at using household products to apply makeup, none quite come close to the reliable, good old Beautyblender.

However, although our love for the sponges that gave us a flawless base runs deep, cleaning them is the worst chore of them all. But fear not fellow beauty enthusiasts, one Twitter user has blown all of our tiny minds with a surprisingly simple but effective hack.

Laureen puts her Beautyblender in hot water mixed with dish soap, then zaps it in the microwave for one minute, ringing it out once the water has cooled. The foundation should be completely removed from the sponge, killing all of the bacteria in the process. You'll be left with a nearly new blender.

So far the post has reached 2,900 retweets and 9,100 likes. And many have replied with their own photographic evidence saying it really does work. Laureen also noted that it may possibly work with a tanning mitt too!

Give this quick hack a go for yourself and watch your blenders go from grim to grand. As one Twitter user replied "this was the knowledge I didn't know I needed." We're with you, girl!

I Rubbed Snail Goo on My Face and It Obliterated My Acne

Image Source: StockSnap / Sajjad Ghanavati

Some partners call their lovers "bae" or "boo." But my boyfriend? He calls me "Snail Face."

Technically, he's correct. Twice a day, every day, I rub a tablespoon of snail mucin - also called snail secretion filtrate - over my face and neck. Even though it tastes bitter - my boyfriend learned this first-hand by trying to kiss me on the cheek - it's the only thing that has worked to clear up my adult-onset acne.

I wasn't a pimply teenager and never had problems with it until I hit my early 20s. Suddenly, I was forming blackheads seemingly overnight, and I had a particularly difficult time battling zits on my cheeks. I had every kind of pimple you could imagine: stubborn whiteheads, deeply embedded pustules, pus volcanos, and fiery-red bumps.

Though I'd been using a Cetaphil face wash for years with positive results, it obviously was no longer working. I turned to other tactics, and over the course of the next five years, I tried a number of zany and not-so-zany treatments. I used Proactive, which worked relatively well, except for the fact that it dried my skin out. I saw multiple dermatologists who recommended myriad ointments, like Differin and Tazorac, as well as prescription antibiotics, all of which I dutifully used, to no avail. Facials became a monthly ritual, and I tried everything from intense extractions to LED Blue light treatments and glycolic-retinol masks.

After meeting a woman who claimed using oils on her face rid her of acne, I did the same, rubbing coconut, avocado, and rose hip oils all over my face. (Note: This tactic didn't work and only made me more pimple-y.) Somehow 3 percent hydrogen peroxide got added into the mix, and I started swiping that on my skin after washing. It worked well in preventing breakouts, but it bleached my eyebrows blonde, which wasn't a good look. I swapped the hydrogen peroxide for apple cider vinegar, which also made an impact, but it was too smelly.

I also experimented with my makeup, switching to pore-friendly brands like Bare Minerals, Origins, and Cover FX, and taking days off from wearing products at all. I started using primers and washing my brushes obsessively. I even stopped using a washcloth to clean my face, opting instead for konjac sponges and paper towels to dry my skin.

While some of these treatments worked, none solved my acne problems entirely. Maybe my skin would be clear, but my nose would be peeling or still full of blackheads. I'd still get breakouts every now and then, and I had a few pores that were hell-bent on getting clogged and flaring up on a regular basis.

Fast-forward to today, and getting acne is but a distant memory. My trick: I started using snail mucin. At this point, I was willing to try anything to get rid of my pimples, so even though using a product made out of snail slime sounded a bit gross to me, I was game. I first learned about it through the Korean beauty website, Soko Glam, but I didn't take the plunge and buy any snail products until my facialist recommended one to me by the skincare brand Biopelle.

The first two topicals I tried were Biopelle's Tensage Daily Serum ($125) and Cosrx's Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence ($21). After cleansing and washing my face, I applied both creams to my dry skin in lieu of lotion. They differ in texture, color, and feel.

The Tensage Serum is thick and white, and leaves your skin feeling slightly tingly, while the Advanced Snail Mucin is clear, sticky, and hydrating. Within a week, my skin was almost entirely clear of pimples, and now, after a using snail mucin for a year, I feel confident enough to go out in public without foundation on.

The funny thing is snail mucin isn't even intended to treat acne.

Made of hyaluronic acid, glycoprotein enzymes, antimicrobial and copper peptides, and proteoglycans, it's marketed as an anti-aging tool that helps diminish fine lines, reduce inflammation, and increase fibroblasts and collagen. The fact that it reduces pimples, is just a lucky addition.

Snail mucin is also not cruelly obtained. There is no one way to collect it. Different companies use diverse methods, as well as different species of snails. And the snails aren't killed or injured in the process.

Biopelle uses a species of snail native to the Mediterranean called Cryptomphalus aspersa, and the secretion is collected through stimulation. Several hundred snails are put into a five-gallon bucket and they're lightly swung around for a few rotations. This activity agitates the snails, who release the secretion. Biopelle president Elliott Milstein said this secretion is different from the mucin they produce for mobility.

"It's not like you can just put a snail directly on your face and have it move around to get those results," Milstein said. He explained that the secretion produced by the snail's movement does not contain the glycolic proteins and growth factors that the secretion acquired through agitation has.

After going through a few swings in the bucket, Biopelle's snails then get to rest for a couple of weeks in "a sanctuary," where they basically get to eat and have a lot of sex. Biopelle collects their eggs and uses them in its Tensage Stem Cell line, which helps produce new skin cells that can reduce signs of aging. The snails get a break in the Fall and Winter and are taken to a swamp in northern Spain to hibernate. According to Milstein, the average lifespan of their snails is twice that of snails living in the wild, which translates to about eight years instead of four.

The snail mucin used in the products Soko Glam sells is acquired differently, and most of the companies they work with are based in Asia.

According to Charlotte Cho, Soko Glam's cofounder, the snails are placed over a mesh net in a dark and quiet room and left to slither about for a good half-hour before their trail of mucin is collected. Unlike Biopelle's snails, the snails used to create Soko Glam's products do not get agitated or stressed because Cho said, "optimal mucin production occurs when snails are well rested and comfortable in their habitat.

There are different theories about how the healing qualities of snail mucin were discovered. Cho explained that Chilean farmers were the first to recognize snails' beneficial traits. "They noticed that their hands were visibly smoother and their cuts were healing quickly after handling snails," she said.

Milstein had another take. He said that radiologists discovered the mucin's healing effects after subjecting snails to x-rays and noticing that the substance they secreted helped heal their burns.

Snail mucin still has a ways to go before it catches on in mainstream formulas and loses its "ew" factor, but there are a fair amount of products on the market already. Quality varies, and Milstein warned that there are some companies that "actually just grind up the snail and don't use the extract." In other words, if a 12-ounce jar of snail mucin for $5 seems too good to be true, it probably is. While snail products aren't as expensive as, say, a La Mer cream, you've got to remember that you're paying for something that takes a lot of time (and a lot of snails) to make. But generally snail products cost anywhere between $20 and $200.

By now, I've recommended snail mucin to many friends and family, and of those who have been brave enough to try it, I've only heard positive results. Sure, it might deter your partner from kissing you on the cheek, but who cares? Your skin will look fantastic.

7 Fascinating Facts About Princess Diana's Life After Her Divorce

Princess Diana and Prince Charles separated in late 1992 after 11 years of marriage, but it wasn't until August 1996 - after multiple affairs, scandals, and one explosive TV interview - that the royal couple's divorce was officially finalized. Here are seven things you may not have known about Diana's life after splitting from Prince Charles.

  1. She lost her royal title. . . . Queen Elizabeth II reportedly wanted to let Diana keep the style of her royal highness, but Charles was "adamant" that she give it up - instead, she was given the title Diana, Princess of Wales. The loss of the honorific separated Diana from the rest of the family in such a way that she had to curtsy to those who had it, including her own children. Prince William, then 14, is said to have comforted his mother after the loss of her title by saying, "Don't worry, Mummy, I will give it back to you one day when I am king."
  2. . . . But got to keep her home. Diana was allowed to keep her apartment at Kensington Palace - which now serves as the official residence of William, Kate Middleton, and their two children - as "a central and secure home for The Princess and the children."
  3. She had to ask the queen's permission to use other perks. Diana was given access to the royal family's jets and was able "to use the state apartments at St. James's Palace for entertaining," as long Queen Elizabeth gave the OK.
  4. Her jewelry box got a little lighter. Diana was permitted to keep all the jewelry she amassed during her marriage, with the exception of the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, which Elizabeth gave to her as a wedding present after only wearing it once. It is now in the queen's possession and was lent to Kate Middleton in both 2015 and 2016.
  1. She and Charles managed to coparent their boys despite lingering drama. The former couple was granted equal access to Prince William and Prince Harry, who were 14 and 11 at the time, respectively. The boys alternated holidays with each of their parents when they weren't attending boarding school. Things seemed to be civil between Charles and Diana as they worked together to coparent their boys after the divorce and up until Diana's death in August 1997.
  2. She dated around after the split. Diana technically began a relationship with surgeon Hasnat Khan while she was separated from Charles in 1995, and she even met his parents and introduced him to William and Harry. Following her split from Hasnat, Diana began dating Egyptian heir and film producer Dodi Fayed in 1997. The two dated for a couple months and vacationed in the French Rivera before their lives were tragically cut short by the Paris car accident.
  3. Overall, Diana was still considered a royal. Buckingham Palace publicly stated that as the mother of heirs to the throne, Diana would continue to be regarded as a member of the royal family and "will from time to time receive invitations to state and national public occasions" at the invitation "of the sovereign or the Government." During a January 2007 inquest into her tragic death, Deputy Coroner of the Queen's Household Baroness Butler-Sloss said, "I am satisfied that at her death, Diana Princess of Wales continued to be considered as a member of the Royal Household."

15 Things Depression Will Tell You That Are Actually Horrible Lies

For those suffering from depression, it can often feel like nothing will ever get better and nobody will ever understand. My personal bouts consist of oversleeping, undereating, shutting down at inappropriate times, disconnecting or isolating myself from the people I care about in an effort "not to burden them," and generally being a challenging person to deal with and get through to.

I think about all the ways depression (and its sh*tty second cousin, anxiety) have made a home in me; like a devil on either shoulder, telling me I don't deserve the things I want, the people I love don't love me back, and the roads to healthy relationships and self-confidence will always be closed for construction. But one of the things I can bring to my decades-long odyssey with mental illness (besides, you know, medication and therapy) is a wry, malapropos sense of humor - because sometimes, it really does seem like there is nothing else. That being said, here are some text messages I just know I'd get from my depression if it could fit its grubby little hands around a cell phone (and if I actually gave it my number).

  1. It's honestly so crazy to me that you have friends. Isn't that crazy to you?
  2. You realize nobody like, actually likes you, right? Try looking up "tolerate" in the dictionary, hun.
  3. They "just want you to be happy?" LOL, you don't really believe that, do you?
  4. Yeah, that dude is WAY out of your league. Cute that you thought he'd be into you, though.
  5. Don't you think you're being a little too . . . I dunno . . . happy right now? Snap out of it, girl. It's not always about you!
  6. Isn't Pinterest so inspiring? It's like, all the things you'll never have and don't deserve, but in one handy place. You should check it multiple times a day!
  7. You really are better off just keeping your head down, getting your work done, and going home. Nobody will notice because nobody cares!
  8. You really are better off just saying you're tired, turning down the invite, and staying home. Nobody will notice because nobody cares!
  9. Wait, you tried to explain our relationship to someone?! I bet you cried! Way to go. Have fun looking insane.
  10. OMG, my vacay was amazing. Looks like you had a fun couple of weeks without me but I'm so glad to be back - aren't you so glad I'm back?
  11. Did that doctor just call me "severe?" Way harsh, Tai.
  12. Hey, we have that 11 hours of sleep that we really need to get to. So what the sun's still out? Seems like the sun's problem.
  13. Um, Anxiety just told me you were awake half the night thinking about how f*cked up your life is and didn't get the 11 hours of sleep we need to function. Care to explain?
  14. Wait, who told you your life was f*cked up? Not me, I hope.
  15. Dude, you're so dramatic. You'll be fiiiine. When have I ever lied to you?

If Your Neighbor Complained About Your Crying Baby, Would You Do THIS?!

Like most babies, Jessica and Karl Ronnevik's 1-year-old son cries. Unlike most parents, however, the Ronneviks have been taken to task for it by their next-door neighbor.

The couple told Fox 8 News that their neighbor in their North Carolina condominium complex - whose bedroom wall is adjacent to the boy's nursery room - has been vocal with his concerns over the "loud" and "disruptive" crying and went so far as to leave a note criticizing their abilities as parents:

Please consider buying a parenting book or consult with a child care expert. Your baby should not be crying that loudly and for that long. Try more calming techniques, music, turn on a vacuum, rocking chair, go for a walk . . . anything! Also, you might consider switching bedrooms. I have lived in The Mill for 15 years and never had neighbors as loud or disruptive. If you don't makes changes immediately, you risk being fined by the association.

For the family, who are expecting another child in a few months, this was the final straw. Late last year, because of this neighbor's continued complaints, they received a warning from their homeowner's association for a potential noise violation.

"I don't feel comfortable living here, knowing that our neighbor is so intolerant," Jessica said. "It makes me feel like we have been bullied in our own home. And I don't like to have to be the mother who is constantly shushing my baby from his happy toddler noises."

With the help of their church community, the family has gone so far as to move to a new home in a more child-friendly area, but not before their neighbor issued one final statement with Fox 8:

It is unfortunate when parents are unable to calm their children. The impact of a baby who continually cries or a toddler who continually screams can be stressful not just for the parents, but also for the community near them. This is true in restaurants, in churches, and even in neighboring homes with adjacent bedrooms.

After being awakened each morning and each night for the last several months (despite wearing earplugs), I was simply reminding the young couple of this and encouraging them to take the matter more seriously.

There are many different strategies that parents can use to minimize the negative effects of a child's meltdown.

The note was also a reminder that any excessively loud noise that interferes with the rights of neighbors is subject to possible fines, as indicated in section 4 of the HOA Rules & Regulations.

I stand by the note and it's contents. I rang the doorbell several times before leaving it. Since no one came to the door, I signed it in case the young couple wanted to discuss the matter in person.

They obviously made a different and less mature choice, as they have been doing for months now with their young child."

Do you think this was the best course of action? What would you have done if this were your neighbor?

If you're still picking yourself up off the floor after reading the four- (or even five-) figure quote your local florist gave you for your big day, we have a shockingly brilliant alternative: Costco. Yes, the membership club known for offering steep discounts sells flowers - and price-savvy brides have been shopping here for years, ordering everything from bulk flowers they assemble themselves to simple and elegant premade bouquets, tabletop arrangements, and even boutonnieres.

The best part? Costco wedding flowers cost a mere fraction of what a florist would charge. We're talking hundreds of dollars for all your flowers instead of thousands. In fact, one bride based in Iowa said her local florist quoted her $4 per rose (which didn't include fillers or the cost to arrange them) while Costco's roses broke down to 75 cents each! And if you're wondering about quality, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. Most brides rave about how expensive their wedding flowers looked, but they do note that there's a much shorter lead time with Costco. The megastore will only process orders a couple months to weeks before the wedding. They also point out that it's better to order certain flowers, like hydrangea or roses, a day or two in advance to let them fill out and open before the big day. And if you want to DIY your wedding flowers, there are additional considerations to make.

You can take a look at Costco's beautiful floral offerings online, and if you don't see exactly what you're looking for, talk to the floral department at your local store. There's a good chance they'll work with you to create your dream flowers.

8 Things You Never Knew About Starbucks, Straight From a Former Employee

I spoke to a former Starbucks employee who worked there for about three years, and she gave me all the insider details I wanted to know. What's it really like to work there? Do baristas really rip off customers by intentionally underfilling lattes? What's the deal with the secret menu? Behold, her tell-all responses:

You can ask for light ice in your iced drinks to get way more for your money.

"If you order an iced drink, ask for light ice and you will get way more of whatever was in your cup."

And to save money on hot drinks, order it in a bigger cup.

That's right. You can order a grande latte "in a venti cup," and you'll basically be getting the larger drink for the smaller price. "Most baristas will be lazy and just make a lot of steamed milk and fill the bigger cup up all the way to the top."

The one thing that drives baristas INSANE is . . .

Saying, "Actually, can I get that cold?" after you've already ordered a hot drink. It's an inconvenience and someone has probably already started making your drink the way it was ordered.

Baristas are NOT asked to "underfill" lattes.

Although Starbucks faced a lawsuit for underfilling its lattes, this barista assures us that is not a company-endorsed policy for saving money. If your drink is less than impressive, the problem might be . . . you. She elaborated, "No one has ever said anything about that. I always filled my cups to the brim like we were told. But the truth is, most of the time if your drink sucks, you were probably rude to the barista and they didn't like you. So be kind!"

Employees receive great benefits.

"If you're full-time, you get dental and health insurance options. The one amazing thing I got from working there was my stock in Starbucks: over three years, I made about $400 when I finally sold my share."

If you love coffee, it's the best job.

You don't even have to be a morning person to enjoy working at Starbucks. "Making coffee is soothing, especially at 4 a.m. when all you want to do is stick your nose in the grounds and wake up." You also get to drink unlimited drinks - for free! This woman loved her Starbucks job and highly recommends working there: "I loved it very much. We were more of a family there," she said.

You CAN order from the secret menu, but it's discouraged.

You're probably aware that a not-so-secret Starbucks secret menu exists, but it's not something the company endorses. "Most of the time our managers didn't want us to make them because technically they're not on the menu. I didn't care about making them really, except when people got mad because it 'didn't taste the same as the other Starbucks.' Well, that would be because it's made-up, and there's no real way to make those drinks." So order your secret menu Frappuccinos with caution.

Starbucks really does donate all unsold food.

Ever wonder what happens to all those unsold pastries at the end of the day? Starbucks recently announced its plans to donate 100 percent of all leftover food to feed the hungry, and this former employee confirmed that her location has practiced this all along. "I know a lot of people think that's fake, but I personally packed the food and have seen it get picked up by different organizations. If you're in need of food, try asking your local Starbucks when they close."

I Tried Kim Kardashian's Skin Care Routine - and This Is What Happened

My Open Relationship Was a Great Decision but, Damn, It's Boring

The best way to describe my boyfriend and my relationship is fast. We met on OKCupid, starting a conversation at 9 a.m. and meeting for dinner by 6 p.m. We took one night off and have seen each other every day and night since. Time has folded itself like some fancy origami heart from 2010 to 2017.

Things happened during this time. We were, and are, deeply devoted to each other. We have pets and in-laws. We have plants and dinner parties. We even exchanged commitment rings and vowed to never have children. We had great sex for years but have spent these recent days in our own personal droughts of pleasure.

Our lack of sexual activity wasn't an issue for months or even years because we love each other very much and didn't found our relationships on our knees: sex came second. That's what happens when you're with someone for a long time: you have sex less. It's normal.

But a myriad of factors made me frustrated, wondering what my sexual life could be if I were with someone else or single. It was our age difference; he's in his mid-30s and I just barely passed the 30-year-old mark. It was our somewhat incompatible sexual preferences; we're both sexually versatile but neither craving each other's bodies as sexual destinations. It was my inexperience; his age and having lived a queer life longer enabled a decade more of exploration. It was my suppressed fetish; I desired partners with different body types than his and was left empty in my desire.

These matters were discussed, briefly, in those couple-y moments of frustration in the middle of the night when we'd had too much to drink and were in a position to face our most intimate inadequacies much to the chagrin of our sleepy neighbors. The conversations always resulted in our drawing closer together, but I was still sexually empty and mad despite so many admissions of desire. I started reading thinkpiece after thinkpiece after thinkpiece after thinkpiece about sleeping with other people in search of answers. This led to thoughts of cheating and thoughts of throuples and thoughts of polyamory before settling on the hottest topic of all: having an open relationship.

Any millennial urban working person with eyes on a computer has heard that open relationships might be better for a marriage and are great for a couple's mental state and should be discussed and are part of the redefining of what love is in contemporary society. Everything I read applied to my relationship, and I lived in fear of having "the talk" - the open relationship talk - with my boyfriend. Then, after tearful confessions of frustrations poured out of me one morning before work, I asked. He, surprisingly, thought it might be a good idea to entertain, that it would be good for us. We pulled back the sheets on our bed and, after months of mentioning the thought without a plan, I came up with rules and parameters for our newly open love (no spending the night with someone, always tell each other when and where you are meeting someone, no last-minute "booty calls," no penetrative sex without permission or getting on PrEP) and put our open relationship into motion.

I was ecstatic. We both were! My therapist was. Everything was peaches and cream and roses and jelly beans. Long days and nights fantasizing about sexual exploits or furious "alone time" in the bathroom vanished and we actually began talking about our sexual desires. I arranged meetups with guys after telling my boyfriend about it first. We got over - and still sometimes are getting over - the awkward hump of mentioning that we are off to sex someone else. We communicate more and are more comfortable and happier. After half a year in practice, everything has been great.

But what has it also been? Boring. My sexual encounters would come and go and, despite enjoying them, my sexual satisfaction never really moved that much. None of my misters are dramatic or clingy, but instead there is always a sense that we didn't cover a desire I wanted, that he or I aren't as good as we could have been in the moment, that the opportunity is wasted on talking too much, that the "best sex" I am seeking is anything but. There is no drama from any party involved. There is no pillow talk about boys with my boyfriend. There is no crazy f*ck fest in the kitchen, then on the couch, then in the shower, then in the hallway, then in the street; it simply isn't happening.

Sex, in many ways, is inherently boring regardless of your relationship status.

This is not for a lack of trying (believe me, I've tried), but it's more of a reflection of sex and our sex lives being just as human as any other interaction. Pop culture loves to dramatize and romanticize sex as an act that occurs and squeezes out pure bliss. In real life, that rarely happens regardless of if you are inside or outside of a relationship with anyone. We are all people, and we are all boring. Sex, in many ways, is inherently boring regardless of your relationship status. It is a function and, like washing your hands or doing leg presses, it is a means to an end, and therefore is not the sacred act that we prop up as magical. It just is.

Something also happens when you remove both the stigma and reverence involved with "sleeping around"; you relinquish the social pressures surrounding sex and relationships. Your view shifts from a relationship needing sex and from the idea that sex is perfectly bundled into a relationship akin to a marriage. That isn't how it is. That isn't how life is. Open relationship or not, no one should be contained. Being contained is exciting because it's a fight to be heard. To be open? It can be boring because you are so unbridled. You have a wealth of copulation options, a cup overflowing with bodily fluids, a f*ck fest of decision fatigue. This isn't necessarily bad, but it also isn't the lavish, lush, lusty sex life that all the thinkpieces promised. It is just another element of life. It is just becoming more adult and more whole.

Opening up our relationship has been one of the best things my boyfriend and I could have done for us because we're now closer than ever, more in love, and - in some ways - more intimate than we have been in some time. We've matured, and our being in an open relationship is a large badge that we wear to show that we can be strong and together, having faith and trust in each other while we also seek pleasure outside of the home. We're now meeting each other on a different, more profound level that we hadn't reached before simply because we occasionally have sex with other people. I cannot recommend an open relationship more.

But is an open relationship more exciting? Is our sex with each other and others better? Is satisfaction bursting from my pores? No, not at all. It's all mundanely the same. Like our relationship, sex is fast and momentary and fleeting, a function of being that lasts for seconds compounded between sheets. But, unlike sex, our relationship is ongoing. Open or not, boring or not, we have each other - and, when certain parts of my body get frustrated and in need, I turn elsewhere for release.

Maybe it will get more exciting, maybe it won't. Regardless, I am perfectly content with my boring open relationship.

19 Big Differences Between the Book and TV Show Versions of 13 Reasons Why

Note: MAJOR SPOILERS for 13 Reasons Why below!

Long before 13 Reasons Why was a hit Netflix show, the moving account of the life and death of Hannah Baker originated in Jay Asher's bestselling 2007 young adult novel of the same name. Both versions of the story are addicting, brutally honest depictions of teen suicide, depression, and grief, but showrunner Brian Yorkey decided to make a few huge changes when it came time to adapt it for TV. From simple things - like how long it takes Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) to get through the tapes - to major differences - like the way Hannah (Katherine Langford) chooses to end her life - read on to see how Asher's book differs from the adaptation.

  1. Clay listens to all of the tapes in one night. If you were at all frustrated by Clay's slow progression through Hannah's tapes in the TV show, you'll probably be a big fan of the way Asher originally chose to do it. After receiving the box of tapes on his doorstep in the book, Clay binges them in one sitting. In the show, Tony tells Clay that he's "the slowest yet" of all of the listeners.
  2. Clay doesn't figure out Tony is following him right away. Although Clay has a run-in with Tony in episode one that confirms he's the one Hannah made responsible for watching everyone on her list, book Clay doesn't realize that it's Tony until he listens to the fourth cassette tape (after stealing Tony's Walkman).
  3. Social media doesn't factor into Hannah's bullying. Sites like Facebook and Twitter certainly existed when Asher published the novel in 2007, but they had yet to become all-consuming forces in the lives of teenagers like they are now. There are references to Clay's cell phone, but the photos of Hannah that Justin and Tyler spread through the school via group text in the series are only word-of-mouth gossip in the book. Rumors by themselves are definitely damaging, but actually seeing the images of Hannah passed around so cruelly adds a new layer of pain to her bullying.
  4. Clay doesn't have hallucinations about Hannah. Some of the more shocking scenes in the show happen when Clay has visions of Hannah bleeding out in the middle of the gym and at the school dance, and it's mentioned in passing that he used to take duloxetine to treat an anxiety disorder (which is why he can only handle listening to one tape at a time). This never happens in the book.
  5. The high school students are tamer, so to speak. Parties full of underage drinkers happen in the book (as do the horrifying rape scenes), but the show doesn't hold back from showing other realities of being a teenager today: smoking pot, having sex, driving drunk, cursing, etc.
  6. Clay injures himself in another way. Distraught and distracted by the tapes, Clay slams his bike into a car in the first episode, cutting his head wide open. He's just as unlucky in Asher's novel, except he gets a nasty slice on his hand from a fence.

  1. Courtney Crimsen is still the worst, but in a different way. Book Courtney still has a reputation as the strait-laced nice girl at school, and she also sleeps over Hannah's house to help her set a risqué trap for the Peeping Tom who's been following her around. Instead of getting drunk and making out during a game of Truth or Dare, however, the two give each other a back massage in front of the guy watching them. Courtney, who isn't gay in the book, then spreads nasty rumors about Hannah being a slut in an attempt to raise her street cred at school.
  2. The order of the tapes is different. In the show, Clay is the 11th person to receive the tapes and chooses to skip number 12 (Bryce, a rapist who would probably destroy the tapes if he got them) and give them to the last person on the list instead, Mr. Porter. The resolution is less clear in the novel, since Clay is ninth on the list, and simply mails them off to number 10. There also aren't any scenes of his classmates conspiring to keep the tapes from being discovered.
  3. Clay never confronts Bryce or records his confession. Because the order of the tapes is different in the book and none of the kids are trying to stop Clay from listening to all of them, Clay doesn't try to bring Bryce to justice for his actions. He never records his confession of raping Hannah, or gives "side 14" to Mr. Porter.
  4. There isn't a lawsuit. The Bakers only appear in the book very briefly, and their lawsuit against the school doesn't exist. The only time they come up is when someone mentions that they've closed their shoe store (which is replaced by a pharmacy in the show) in the wake of their daughter's suicide.
  5. Clay's parents are barely in it. When Clay first starts listening to the tapes at the beginning of the book, his mom comes in to check on him and they have quick conversations throughout the night. In the show, his parents are in every episode (and what feels like every other scene), mostly because his mom is the lawyer tasked with defending the school district against the Bakers' lawsuit.
  6. Hannah's suicide is done differently. The scene of Hannah killing herself by slicing her wrists open with a razor blade is extremely graphic and difficult to watch. It's a huge departure from Asher's original portrayal of her death, which is referenced only when Clay says she "swallowed a handful of pills."

  1. Clay and Hannah aren't exactly friends. Some of the most touching, heartbreaking moments throughout the 13 Reasons Why show happen when Clay is mourning the future he and Hannah could have had or reliving memories from their close relationship. He pines after her for nearly the entire season, and is confused when she pushes him away after their heated makeout session at Jessica's party. The kiss still happens in the original story, but the lead up to it is different. They work at the movie theater together for one Summer, but Hannah says on the tapes that she wishes they could've been closer and gotten to know each other better. The two don't actually ever have a legitimate conversation until the night of the party when they hook up.
  2. The Monet's crew has a different motto. In an effort to update the book, Hannah, Alex, and Jessica's motto goes from "olly olly oxen free" to "FML."
  3. And Sheri has a different name. In the book, a nice cheerleader named Jenny Kurtz chats with Hannah during the Dollar Valentine fundraiser, and is later responsible for knocking over the stop sign that causes Jeff to die. Jenny is changed to Sheri on TV and pursues a relationship with Clay that she doesn't originally.
  4. Speaking of Jeff, he's a much more minor character in the book. It's hard not to crush on Jeff throughout the show. As a popular, well-meaning baseball player who takes pity on Clay's ineptitude with girls, he's instantly lovable, which makes his sudden death in a car crash because of Sheri knocking over the stop sign that much more painful. He still dies in the book, but since his character is a senior that none of the main characters are friends with, it doesn't have as big of an impact on Clay's life.
  5. Alex doesn't attempt suicide. Alex Standall openly struggles with fitting in at school and his remorse over what the group has done to Hannah in the show, and a scene of him dropping in Bryce's pool at one point suggests that he doesn't necessarily want to come up for air. It's revealed in the finale that he shoots himself in head, but not if he survives. None of this happens in the book.
  6. Tyler doesn't have a plan to shoot up the school. A disturbing scene in the show alludes to Tyler's plans for a school shooting (he opens a secret compartment in a trunk in his bedroom to reveal a stash of guns and explosives), but like Alex's fate, he doesn't do that in the novel.
  7. The book's ending is less complex. After listening to Hannah's tapes and wishing that he could've picked up on signs of what she was going to do earlier, book Clay reaches out to an old friend, Skye, who's been showing signs of depression. This also happens in the show, but since there's likely going to be a second season, more storylines are left open: Tyler's violent plans, Alex's attempted suicide, the Bakers' lawsuit, Sheri turning herself in, Bryce's rapes coming to light, and more.

Is It Halloween Yet? Nikkie Tutorials Has Convinced Us to Go as Wonder Woman

After seeing the new Wonder Woman film, we're all planning to dress as the kickass hero for Halloween. Beauty blogger Nikkie Tutorials is no exception and showed us exactly how to transform into the comic-book character to celebrate the girl-power-filled film.

Nikkie decided to go the 2D route and applied her makeup in the style of a comic rather than modeled after the Wonder Woman from the film. Using black and white liquid liners, Nikkie transformed herself into the heroine. The results are ultra impressive, and we're starting to practice the technique now to prepare for our next cosplay opportunity.

The Story Behind Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI's Love

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain have been married for more than 13 years, and while the royal couple is solid, their relationship didn't start that smoothly.

Back in 2002, Queen Letizia was just known as Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, an international journalist working for Televisión Española, anchoring the evening news and reporting from abroad on disasters like the terrorist attack in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001 and the war in Iraq. Then Prince Felipe must have been a fan of the news because rumor has it he asked a journalist friend, Pedro Erquicia, to set up a dinner and invite Letizia so the two could meet. While reports say Letizia handed over her number to the prince, the two didn't start dating for a few more months.

Things got serious in the following years while the couple dated in secret, and on Nov. 1, 2003, the Spanish royal family shocked the country by announcing the prince's engagement to Letizia. But the marriage could have never happened: Letizia was not only a commoner, becoming the first woman with no royal blood to be in the line of succession for the Spanish crown, but she was also divorced. The journalist had been married to Alonso Guerrero Pérez until 1999.

While some didn't approve of the engagement, Prince Felipe's parents, Queen Sofía and King Juan Carlos, stood by the couple, although there was a bigger issue. If Letizia's previous marriage had been performed by the Catholic church, the Vatican would have had to extend a special permission that allowed her to marry Felipe. Luckily, Letizia's previous marriage had only been a civil ceremony, and the couple officially wed at the Catedral de Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid on May 22, 2004. Now the queen - King Juan Carlos abdicated the crown to King Felipe in 2014 - admired for her fashion sense, she has two daughters with Felipe, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía.

Even the Biggest Jason Momoa Fan Might Not Know This About His Name

You may know Jason Momoa as the ripped actor behind Aquaman and the incredibly loving husband of Lisa Bonet, but do you know his real name? It's common for celebrities to go by their middle name, and Jason is no different. His full name is actually Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa, after his father, Joseph Momoa. Even though he was raised by his single-parent mom, Coni, in Norwalk, IA, when he was in college, he moved back to the Hawaiian Islands where he was born to reconnect with his estranged father, who is of Native Hawaiian descent. Whether he goes by Jason or Joseph, we love him just the same.

30 Tiny, Chic Wrist Tattoos That Are Better Than a Bracelet

If you truly want to wear your heart on your sleeve, then the wrist should be the canvas for your next tattoo. A flat plane fairly easy to tattoo, the wrist is popular for first-timers and small designs or sayings. While the wrist is generally a more visible tattoo spot than, say, the ribs or back, this placement allows for easy coverage with foundations or bracelets - making it an ideal choice for those who might be slightly tentative to get inked in a more prominent location. Conversely, we're also partial to the wrist because of its visibility: the conspicuousness of this spot is perfect for tattoos meant to serve as a source of inspiration, support, or reminder.

But don't just take our word for it - check out these gorgeous pieces of wrist ink to get some serious tattoo inspiration.

The Grandmother-Approved Makeup Trend That's Making a Huge Comeback

If you follow a lot of makeup artists on Instagram or Snapchat, you've likely noticed a spike in powder application (note Kim Kardashian). That's all due to a trend called baking.

Baking isn't new - it's been used for years in the drag community, but thanks to a spike in highlighting and contouring, the technique is getting some attention. Also known as baking, the method is similar to highlighting, but without using any shimmer. Here's how it's done: After applying foundation and concealer, use a damp makeup sponge to pat a thick coat of powder on areas that you want to look brighter. Try underneath your eye, along the top of your jawbone, and down the center of your nose (places where you'd ordinarily highlight). After letting the powder sit for five to 10 minutes, dust it away with a fluffy brush.

Thanks to baking, you'll look chiseled all night - not only does the powder highlight your features, it sets your foundation. Keep reading to see how it's done and to shop the best products for a perfectly cooked complexion.

Are you ready to meet your new country boyfriend? With his third studio album on the horizon, 31-year-old singer-songwriter Brett Eldredge is no newbie, but his star is rising, and fast.
