18 Surprising Secrets From Former Disney Park Princesses

As much as many of us love Disney, we don't know too much about the ins and outs of the company. It's very protective of its brand to maintain the Disney magic, and cast members can even get fired for sharing backstage photos on social media. While we'd like to keep some of the mystery alive, we can't help but wonder about the other secrets we don't know about. So, we looked to iAMAs where we found a former Disneyland Snow White and a former Disney World cast member who played Mulan, Pocahontas, and Silvermist the Fairy. Let's start off by saying that being a Disney princess is no easy job, and becoming one is even more difficult. Check out 18 interesting secrets that are sure to surprise you.

1. Please tell me you sign as Disney character for receipts!

"I used to on accident! I signed 'Mulan' about 1000 times a day at work, you eventually get handed paper and do it without thinking."

2. Is it true that characters from different worlds can't acknowledge each other? Tigger wouldn't know who Cinderella is, for example.

"That isn't true. We are all in the Disney Universe. Unless our characters specifically don't know about each other (Tinkerbell hadn't met Peter Pan in her Direct-to-DVD movies, so as Silvermist, I didn't know who Peter Pan was and was supposed to act confused when guests would mention him to me), they can mix their stories. As Mulan, I would tell kids that Cinderella wanted me to bring something other than noodles to her tea party, so I'd ask them what food I should bring. It was always chicken nuggets."

3. Did you ever have kids tell you that you weren't the real thing? How did you handle that?

"Chinese people would always tell me to speak Chinese and I'd tell them that I bet Mushu if I could go an entire day without speaking Chinese, he'd feed the chickens for me tomorrow."

4. Is it true that many of the princes are gay in real life?

"Ohhhhhhhh, yeah."

"More than half. Maybe like 70/30? Of course, I didn't know all of them personally, but if I had to guesstimate, that's what I would say."

5. What's one of the weirdest things you've seen a coworker do while still dressed in a character costume?

"One time in the break room I saw Cinderella and Snow White fit comfortably under Tiana's dress, and when Belle came around the corner they popped out and scared her."

6. Do adults hit on you?

"I was hit on as Pocahontas more than Mulan or Silvermist, and it definitely has to do with the amount of clothing she's wearing. I've never been touched inappropriately, but there's always the family that makes the grandpa or the dad get a picture alone and they'd whisper how pretty I was or ask when I got off of work. I'd get slipped the occasional phone number on a napkin, but nothing ridiculous has ever happened. But it's probably a different story for the Princess Jasmines, who are wearing just a bra and parachute pants."

7. How did you feel when people would ask you for your autograph?

"Excited. Snow White has always been my favorite princess, but she's really underappreciated these days and a lot of people overlook her at the park. A lot of kids don't even know who she is, so it was always exciting when somebody wanted my autograph."

8. What kind of training are you put through for this job?

"Everyone is hired initially as the role Character Performer. You are not allowed to learn a 'face' role (the characters that talk to you) unless you have had training as a fur character first (costumed characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, etc.). It is probably different now than my training five years ago, but when I trained, I had five days of fur character training, which was three days of animation and autograph practice, and two days meeting guests as a fur character. After you are approved for the fur character training, you are allowed to move on to face character training. You have two days of training per face character you're given. Day one is watching the movie, learning how to walk, talk, and act, and day two is meet-and-greets with guests. I think there may be an additional day for accents (ex. Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins), but none of my three face roles had accents, so I'm not sure."

9. Whats your favorite thing that only employees get to do?

"I loved getting out of work and going to Epcot with my friends to drink around the world. I miss that the most."

10. Was it hard to maintain a "magical" attitude when you had bad days?

"It is like any job in hospitality. People are paying money to receive a certain experience, and your job is [to] accommodate them. If I was ever upset about something in my life, there would be at least one child/parent who would be so awesome and make me remember how great the job is. That sounds so stupid. But it's true. It's a cool job."

11. Who decides which role you portray and when?

"There is an entire casting team who chooses what role you play. You attend auditions, which involve acting like the character, dressing up like the character, and having photos taken of you. You then wait and they call you if you are approved. There are a lot of rumors involving the process of picking characters. You do not have any say in what character they fit you in. They do not tell you why you are not chosen for that character. You could look exactly like Cinderella, but if they do not need to hire any more Cinderellas, you may not get chosen. People lie about what happens at their auditions all of the time; 'they told me I was too fat,' 'they said my skin wasn't dark enough.' They never tell anyone these things. They either say yes or no."

12. Did you have a favorite character/costume?

"Chip & Dale are the most fun because all they do is troll people all day. Steal a water bottle? Everybody laughs. Sit in a stroller? Hilarious. Pretend to punch your character attendant in the testicles? BOY DO THEY LAUGH. They're so fun and people love them!"

13. What was the costuming routine like?

"You are scheduled to clock in one hour before your first meet and greet. This is when you do your makeup and get your costume on. They provide all of the makeup and each character has a specific makeup profile with specific colors. You're taught how to do the makeup in your training for the character."

14. What is the creepiest interaction you've had with a child? Adult?

"This will always be my number one creep Disney story: I was Silvermist and we were meeting our last family of the night in Pixie Hollow. Tinkerbell, Rosetta, and I were having fun with this little girl who was about five. Her mom was with her and the girl was being silly and running around laughing at us and talking a lot. You take individual pictures with the fairies, but we decided to ask if she wanted a special picture with all three of us. We stood together and the mom said, 'Stand between them!' The little girl all of a sudden got really shy, and ran to her mom and hid. Her mom said, 'Oh no, are you being a little stinker? I know, if you give mommy a lick will you feel better?' The little girl nodded and smiled. She then proceeded to lick her mom's face, from her chin to her forehead. She laughed, her mom laughed, and Tinkerbell, Rosetta, and me are standing there horrified at the M. Night Shyamalan twist this meet and greet has taken. The little girl happily walked over to us and took the picture after she did it. Never forget."

15. Are there any special perks of the job?

"It was cool to be able to go into the park with my friends whenever I wanted, get my family in for free, and get discounted stuff in the park all the time."

16. Have you ever ruined a kid's childhood by acting out of character?

"I worked a 14-hour day and saw the last family, who were nice, but I wanted to go home. They exited the room and I immediately pulled off my wig and went, 'Awwww yessss!!!!' The little girl ran back in and said, 'Bye guys! Bye Tinkerbell! Bye Silvermist! Bye Rosetta!' I was holding my weave in my hand. RIP child's dreams."

17. What was your favorite part of playing a face character, and which fellow FC was the meanest?

"I'd like to be able to say something like seeing the smiles on kids' faces was the best part (and that was definitely a perk, don't get me wrong), but honestly? The best part of playing a face character was the satisfaction of knowing that I was Snow White, and I beat out a lot of other beautiful, talented girls for the part. And I won't say any names, but there was a girl who played Tinkerbell that was just absolutely unbearable. Luckily we didn't cross paths much."

18. Is it true that characters have to go through autograph training, so that a Snow White autograph that you get today is the same as one that you got 30 years ago from another Snow White?

"Yes. It's part of the training program."

Openly, Honestly, Publicly: How We Live Our Lives With Pride

Matt Dallas and Blue Hamilton's YouTube channel is called Matt and Blue. The couple married and adopted their son, Crow, in 2015

Matt Dallas: When it comes to my upbringing, I have a very large family. We're kind of a very motley crew as it is, and I was very fortunate that I was just . . . comfortable. I was raised to be very much who I was. I always found myself off with my female cousins, whether that meant dressing up, having dance parties, or whatever. That was the world that I immersed myself into, and I think I was lucky that I didn't have a father who was trying to pull me out of it.

The Summer before my freshman year of high school, I made two guy friends. They were gay, and I basically just spent that Summer hanging out with them, and that was when I realized like, "Oh, gay is a thing. That's what's happening here." That's when I knew I was different, and as I entered into high school, it all started really clicking and making a lot more sense.

Blue Hamilton: As for me, I grew up in a very small town called Florissant in Colorado. I think, even today, the town has like 100 people in it. It's a very small community up in the Rockies, and so there was no LGBTQ community to speak of. I literally only remember one woman there that we suspected was a lesbian. I didn't have the resources. The internet wasn't there.

Yeah, but you know what's really interesting? I've been a huge Madonna fan my whole life, because my sisters were into her and, you know, it was the '80s. She was a huge influence on my life, because I was a big fan. And I mean, look at who her audience is.

It's just funny to me that I had the power of an artist with a voice - and the impact that she made in my life - when I didn't have anybody else. To bring it back to what Matt and I do as far as being out there and being visible, that's another reason I feel like it's really important. Even though the internet's out there and the world is a great big open oyster now, there are kids in towns who don't have those people around them. So at least they have these resources to go out and look at.

MD: In terms of Pride, I've been to two, and they were both in San Diego. I have to be really honest, I was really turned off by LGBTQ Pride, even in my early 20s. It just didn't feel like it necessarily represented me. Don't get me wrong, it was cool to see everybody coming together. I remember I saw Cyndi Lauper, and to have someone who's that famous that's there and supporting us was very meaningful to me. But as I got older, I just started to feel conflicted.

I celebrate my pride in a different way. Pride is something that we live every day.
BH: I've been to a couple, and I have to echo you. I think that the Pride festivities that I've been to do represent a specific portion of the community, but they didn't necessarily represent me. I went in LA, and it was years ago. It was fun, and I didn't really see anything that I was appalled by, but I didn't feel like I fit in. What I took out of it was that pride, for me, was not going to a parade. I celebrate my pride in a different way. Pride is something that we live every day and I don't need to go to a parade. That's how I felt at the time. To me it means to just being true to who you are and living by example.

MD: Of course, I want to say that I don't mean to pass any sort of judgment on somebody who enjoys Pride. You should be who you are and do what makes you happy, but that just wasn't me. I obviously feel the same way as Blue: my pride is about living openly and honestly and publicly and living by example.

That being said, I do think there's something very powerful in like a giant mass of people coming together, like the Women's March. That sent a huge message, and I think that that's very impactful. So, I think a Pride parade sends a very loud, important message, and it's a very powerful tool. But I also think it's time that we reconsider what that looks like in the context of Pride.

I think a Pride Parade sends a very loud, important message.
I will say I regret that I wasn't able to be at a Pride after the Pulse nightclub shooting. I wanted to be able to be a part of that. To come out and show the support and say, like, "We, as a community, are coming together to say that we will not stand for this."

Like I said, though, my pride is in my life. I felt the best when I came out publicly. I had spent so many years so afraid of coming out. It had been about 10 years that I spent really conflicted about who I was and being open and honest publicly. When I did come out, I remember sending the tweet and then just like refreshing. Like, "Oh, there's no taking it back now." Even though there was like fear and nervousness in the moment, there was a huge release, and I felt very proud of myself that I was able to fight back and take a stance for who I was. It really was a moment of "Wow, I did something really cool and I'm really proud of myself." It felt special to get to be a part of something, to stand up for something that I had been so afraid of, that I had been hiding for so many years.

BH: I mean, there's nothing that necessarily comes to mind for me, nothing that big. But there's one huge memory that sticks out for me. We were at Disneyland last year waiting in line. A 13-year-old kid came up to us with his mom, and they basically told us that this kid came out and feels comfortable because of watching us on YouTube.

MD: And it was the mother's reaction!

BH: I mean, yeah, but I guess it was more the kid for me. But the mom was very emotional and, like, teary-eyed and was just super appreciative and nice. It was her story, I guess, but it was about the kid.

MD: For me what I thought was cool was that the mom was saying that, as supportive as she was of her son, she was just always so fearful for what his life might look like, and she just was afraid that he wouldn't be able to find happiness, but when he made her sit down and watch our videos, she was like, "Oh, my son will be able to have this life and will be able to have the life I always dreamed he would have." And she felt like she didn't have to be afraid anymore.

As much as I've shared to the contrary, I am excited for Pride this year. I feel more open and honest with who I am than I ever have been in my life, and I feel like we are at such a crossroads in our society. I mean, we've had so many breakthroughs. You see this real shift in society, so it is exciting to see where the next Pride Months over the next few years are going to take us. I think it's an exhilarating time because it can go any direction, and I think there are now so many voices that it can be something really interesting and special.

BH: I'm actually excited for it. I feel I'm more aware of it than I've been in the past, and I feel we're able to make an influence and be a part of it on a different level than before. It's time to get started.

How a Mom Used Her Earrings to Prove That She Was Invisible After Giving Birth

Like many new moms, Anastasia Aligiannis noticed that things changed after giving birth to her baby boy. She felt like she had become completely invisible and to prove her point, she took out one of her earrings.

It took seven months before anyone noticed that she was only wearing one earring, despite being surrounded by family and friends. "All those social interactions, and no one ever looked me square in the face and noticed," she shared on Facebook. "It sort of cemented to me that as a very busy mom of then two children under two who 'just stayed at home' or 'didn't work.' I had almost become invisible not just to society, but to my family and friends, and really maybe even to myself."

Anastasia explained that even conversations over the phone followed a similar pattern: people asking how her children and husband are but never following up with asking about her. "I guess people figured if the people it was my responsibility to care for were OK, then I must be," she wrote.

Although many new moms can relate and may even smile in recognition, Anastasia made it clear that the point of her post wasn't to be funny but instead to send a message. "If today you are feeling overwhelmed, invisible or like you don't matter, you do. You are so important and are probably the cog that keeps everything running smoothly," she wrote. "Keep up the good work, and if no one else says it to you this week, know that you are invaluable in the work you do and your sacrifices do not go unnoticed."

This Is the 1 Product Every Rainbow-Haired Beauty Needs For Healthier Hair

I have put my hair through a lot over the years. I've done many colors of the rainbow with a harsh bleaching in between, and while my hair is pretty durable, the color has taken a bit of a toll. There was actually a point a few years ago where I dyed my hair pink, and when I wanted to change colors, I couldn't actually get the bleach to take the pink out. Naturally, I then thought it would be a good idea to just keep bleaching it over and over in hopes that the pink would come out. I don't know how I still had hair or skin at the end of that ordeal, but somehow I pulled through.

But now, I've discovered the secret to changing my rainbow hair without wreaking havoc on my hair and scalp. Enter Pravana's Pure Light Crème Lightener.

Before

I started with the fade out of my Lime Crime pink ombré and a pretty terrible texture from hot-tool abuse. (I live for my flat iron; I can't help it.) I put my hair in the hands of Pravana and its experts, and hair color superwoman Lissette Cruz got to work at taking my color out. She used the Pure Light Crème Lightener to remove the color, and it literally took less than five minutes.

The lightener has a coconut oil base so it's ultranourishing on your hair, which is exactly what you need if you frequently change your colors. I asked her how it works, and she said the lightener opens up the hairs and pulls the color out gently rather than harshly stripping it away like some other products. The lightener can lift up to five levels - and fast.

Get a load of my hair after just five minutes with the lightener (and after a rinse, of course)!

After lightening

Check out that amazing light gray color we ended up with! Lissette even joked that she wouldn't have been able to get that color if she tried, and had I not wanted brand-new mermaid hair in the end, I would have been tempted to keep this. Alas, this was a stepping stone. But normally after taking color out, my hair ends up a bit brittle and very fragile. It can handle it, but it has its limits.

After the Pure Light Crème Lightener, though, my hair was soft and smooth and ready to take on a whole new life.

And that's where colorist Jordan Glindmyer came in. I told this self-proclaimed mermaid that she could do whatever she wanted with my hair. After toning my hair with ChromaSilk Express Tones in Smokey Silver, Jordan pulled together a color palette fit for a mermaid. Or a unicorn, whichever you prefer.

"I wanted to work with the existing regrowth, so I utilized violet on the root and did diagonal and horizontal sections throughout the head, alternating formulas on her ends to create a flawless blend regardless of how she chooses to part or style her hair," Jordan said.

The colors she used were Neons Neon Pink, Vivids Violet, Neons Neon Blue, Vivids Yellow, Vivids Clear (an additive to lighten/pastel creative colors for more customization), Vivids Moody Blue, and Vivids Magenta. And while it sounds like that's a lot going on, the finished look was flawless.

After

Not only is the color amazing, but seriously, the lightener boosted my hair health in a crazy way. I have naturally tangly and difficult hair, but the lightener took care of all of that. There are no tangles to be found, and my hair is shinier than ever. Rainbow-haired friends, next time you want to change colors, you have to use Pravana's Pure Light Crème Lightener. Your hair will thank you.

How to Watch the James Comey Hearing, Even If You Don't Have Cable

Former FBI Director James Comey is set to testify in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, June 8, regarding President Donald Trump and his campaign's alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 presidential election. While most congressional hearings are relegated to C-Span, this unusually high-profile hearing will air on ABC, NBC, and CBS, starting at 9:45 a.m. ET. If you don't have cable, head over to Twitter, which will be live streaming the event in partnership with Bloomberg. The event is so popular that one bar in Washington DC is offering free drinks if Trump tweets about Comey during the hearing.

Union Pub DC announced the promotion on its Facebook page, writing:

TOMORROW: We open at 9:30AM & buying a round of drinks for the house every time Trump Tweets about Comey during his testimony! This "special" will run til Comey's testimony is over, or 4pm, whichever is earlier. #ThisTown #CapitolHill

Union Pub won't be the only establishment throwing a watch party, either. Four other bars in the DC area will reportedly host watch parties for Comey's testimony before the Senate, opening their doors a bit earlier for attendees to get a good seat (and drink). Check out the list ahead.

George R.R. Martin Finally Says What Game of Thrones Fans Already Know About Trump

Almost immediately after Donald Trump announced his candidacy, people on social media began pointing out the rather obvious similarities between him and Game of Thrones' maniacal King Joffrey. A newly published interview in Esquire suggests that the notoriously mum and apolitical author George R.R. Martin agrees with the comparison.

The interview, published on May 24, actually centers on Kit Harington, the actor behind the character Jon Snow. However, it also reveals Martin's stance on Trump. "I think Joffrey is now the king in America," Martin said while recognizing the parallels between his character and reality. "And he's grown up just as petulant and irrational as he was when he was thirteen in the books." It's not exactly surprising that a reality TV star might share character traits with a power-hungry, paranoid king who has a penchant for theatrics.

Following Martin's lead, Harington offered a blunt but all-encompassing opinion of Trump, despite his self-proclaimed desire to let "experts" analyze political discourse. "Mr. Donald Trump, I wouldn't call him President, I'll call him Mister," Harington confessed. "I think this man at the head of your country is a con artist."

Without revealing any spoilers for those just beginning to watch the show, let's just say Trump's fate and Joffrey's differ dramatically (so long as Trump has someone testing his food).

George Clooney's Proud Parents Reveal New Details About His "Gorgeous" Twins

George Clooney has remained pretty quiet about the details surrounding his twins with wife Amal, but his parents, not so much. After George's mom, Nina, revealed the sexes of the babies to Vogue back in February, she and George's dad, Nick, spoke to Fox 19 reporter Tricia Macke about their "gorgeous, beautiful" grandchildren just a day after they were born. "They are gorgeous, and Nina swears the little boy has George's nose," Nick said after speaking to George and Amal over Skype. "They have dark hair, they look great. Amal is superwoman, she is just amazing. She was telling us just last week that she was as big as a house, but of course for her that would be a very small house."

Nick also revealed that he and Nina previously doubted whether George would ever have children of his own, adding,"When we met Amal, we got that figured out in a hurry. Just as I did, George married up. Both George and Amal are doing wonderfully well . . . and now, at long last, so are we." George and Amal named their new bundles of joy Alexander and Ella, which are way better than "Casa" and "Amigos" (the names of George's Casamigos tequila brand), which George recently joked that Amal had forbidden him to do.

14 Stars Who Have Been In on the Braless Trend For a Long Time

Porn Can Be Good For You (and the World) - Here's Why

Porn is a great place to figure out what you like - and more importantly, what you don't like. It can also help encourage body positivity and embrace masturbation (hey, it's healthy!). Can you be a feminist and watch porn? Of course! Here's why porn can actually be good for you.

1. You learn what you like (and share it with a partner).

Watching porn helps you figure what and why things turn you on - or off. If you like something, find more in that category and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, find out who the performers are and see if they do it for you. Find someone or something that gets you hot and bothered and think about why. If you are into a particular porn star, support their work (even if, like me, you're broke AF). Send something you really liked to a partner (or partners). It's a great way to start a conversation about what kinds of sex you're interested in and show them what you want to try. I was seeing this guy for six months. I asked if that was what he was into, and he said he didn't know. A grown man didn't know what kind of porn he was into because he was "in and out in 10 minutes" and "didn't really think about it." So he wasn't able to explain what he wanted or even liked. Watching porn with critical thought could have made this dude's life a little better.

2. It can promote body positivity.

Rule 34 exists for a reason. Representation matters. While the porn industry has massive issues with the line between representation and fetishization, there's always space to see a body that looks like yours having sex. I advocate for critical consumption of all media - especially porn - and that includes looking at bodies that resemble your own. XXX porn fights repressive representations of genitalia. Vaginas are wonderfully diverse in shape, size, and color. Porn, with its close-up shots of labia and clitorises, allows viewers the opportunity to see genitalia that look different from their own or the ones they saw in middle school sex ed classes. And all those lovingly shot blow jobs? You guessed it - a great time to learn that penises can curve left or right, be pink or brown or black and any color in between, and can still get off and get someone else off. Porn normalizes genitalia in its diversity.

Porn proves that anyone interested in having sex (with a consenting adult) can - and can be hot while doing it. Curvy, thin, queer, straight, trans, kinky, and vanilla all engage in sex and prove the viability of representation.

3. It encourages masturbation!

There are a ton of health benefits. "Procrastibation" is a great way to waste time while achieving something. More importantly, it's a great way to figure out what kind of touches you respond to and enjoy. Super into clitoral stimulation? Tell your partner! G-spot or prostate play? Again, let your partner know! Knowing how and what you like is key. Porn is a regular part of masturbation rituals, so go forth, watch porn, and get yourself off.

4. Porn is one of the few industries where women are paid more than men.

A woman about her money is great. There are conflicting reports about exactly how much more they make, but women in porn can make double their male counterparts. I am here for supporting women making their own money. Yes, women in porn can be feminists; no, not all porn is degrading to women and femme people. These figures also represent gender-conforming mainstream porn points of view, and not everyone making porn falls into these categories, but let's celebrate the little victories. I know there is still so much progress needed for gender-nonconforming bodies, but in a world where white women make 74-82 percent of what men are paid and women of color even less, it's important to acknowledge the areas in which we've made progress.

5. You can still be a feminist and watch porn!

I've met too many young women who buy into the idea that all women in porn are being exploited. Yes, exploitation is very real, yes, human trafficking is a huge issue, but many women in porn have chosen to be there. Read their stories, and think about the implications that assumptions lead to. Dare I say, make them real people, with real complicated lives? Better yet, find performers you like on Instagram and Twitter. Find people who jive with your politics, find people who actively identify as feminists, and support their work. Look at the work performers do outside of porn, and consider even thinking about them, their passions, hobbies, and politics after you cum. Walk the feminist talk, liberate your sexuality, and support people doing what they love for a living. That's feminist as hell.

So for all of this, I say we start talking about porn. What we watch, what we like, and why we like it. Honestly, where's the harm in well-informed people who are able to articulate sexual interest and desire? Sounds pretty great to me.

15 Beauty Products You Should Pack For Bonnaroo

When I go camping, I don't wear makeup, but when camping at a music festival, the no-makeup rule goes out the window. Two years ago, I attended Bonnaroo for the first time and basically fell in love with the four-day music festival in Tennessee. Unlike Coachella, where some festivalgoers camp but most stay in nearby hotels, Bonnaroo boasts 85,000 campers spread over 700 acres.

Even though we're sleeping in tents beside our cars, showering futilely, and hiking miles in sweltering heat, Bonnaroo fans still want to look festival-level cute. For me, that means casual, minimal clothes (tank tops, cutoffs, hats, and bandanas soaked in ice water) but lots of beauty products. From an arsenal of sunscreen to fun lip color, here are 15 beauty essentials you should pack for Bonnaroo (or any other music festival where you're living out of a tent).

The 1 Shockingly Stylish Furniture Collection at Walmart

You can't help but smile when you see a space designed by Bob and Cortney Novogratz. This husband-wife team is famous for their colorful aesthetic - think bold hues, graphic patterns, and quirky accessories - as well as the fact that they have seven (seven!) kids. They've designed unique and chic spaces all over the country, both private and commercial. You may not be able to afford the design services of the Novogratzes, but you can still bring their style home thanks to their product line at Walmart. Yes, you read that right: Walmart. 9 by Novogratz offers furniture, accessories, artwork, bedding, and bath. You won't believe the prices, and more importantly, you won't believe the amazing designer look of each piece! Take a look at our favorite products from their line, and then snatch them up quickly. No one has to know where you got them; your secret is safe with us.

My Ex Replaced Me With a Victoria's Secret Model

Some say a breakup is harder to accept than death. Why? I'd say due to the lack of closure. But what's harder than the breakup? The replacement.

When someone dies, it's unlikely we'll see them again (unless you're some sort of clairvoyant); however, when we break up with someone, they can still manage to find ways to haunt us. Social media is the unrelenting medium that seems to prevent these apparitions from leaving our dimension and "going to the light." While some may be curious about the status of departed loved ones, they just might be terrified of what they find. If you're lucky like me, no investigation was required, because she was everywhere! I was replaced with a Victoria's Secret model.

I woke up one morning and felt good and ready to take on a new day, while I repeated my motto, "I shall not creep," as I very carefully scrolled through my morning social feeds. "Today would be the first of all days, where I would regain control of my life and sanity." Or so I thought.

After conquering the first obstacle of the day, I strutted confidently to the subway for the morning commute. Just as I arrived at the machine to reload my MetroCard, I did a double take to my right, and there she was - "the Angel," plastered on the subway station wall. A look of sheer horror washed over my face as I stared into the perfect, parchment eyes of my replacement. Quickly swiping through the turnstile to escape her gaze, I found a series of her glossy, paper eyes mirrored down the seemingly never-ending corridor. It was like tunnel vision; my heart sank, my chest tightened, and with a sudden pang, a wave of anxiety took over my body. FML. "What did I do to deserve this cruelty?" I thought to myself.

When I arrived at work, I immediately started plugging away at the 20-plus emails awaiting replies. I was never so thankful for how busy my job was. I worked at a well-known fashion magazine, and there was hardly any time for my mind to wander. As I took a moment to eat my lunch, I casually flipped through our next month's issue when, lo and behold! The Angel appeared. With nearly a mouthful of soup to the lap and appetite to the abyss, I was now certain that I was somehow cosmically indebted to pay off my karmic dues.

It was a day from hell, and I desperately needed to clear my head. Instead of my usual gym routine, I thought it might be a nice change to run across the Williamsburg Bridge. On the way back, my endorphins had me on high like never before; my body felt light and my mind free and clear. "Nothing can stop me now!" I thought. For I chose water (more like sweat) over wine, when I really wanted to go in on a bottle of Malbec and devour a pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream - talk about willpower! I was back and feeling damn good.

After I snapped an obligatory shot of the New York City skyline for Instagram, I was scrolling through image filters when a bright light on the horizon of the bridge caught my eye. The Angel. And she's larger than life! A billboard?! A motherf*cking billboard. I stopped dead in my tracks. Suddenly, I felt a surge of intense energy rise from the pit of my stomach. What I thought was sure to have been vomit or tears burst out an uncontrollable, borderline painful laughter in the dark, by myself, as other runners whizzed by. After a solid five minutes, I finally gathered my wits about me, threw my hands in the air, and said out loud, "I give up." And that, my friends, was the best thing I could've done.

It was beyond my control. She was everywhere. There on that dark bridge, I made a promise to myself: accept it.

I chose happiness over heartache . . . and finally learned what it actually meant to love myself. I had finally earned my wings.

That was a pivotal moment in my life. It was then that I stopped caring, stopped comparing, stopped torturing myself for what I wasn't and what she was. She may be an Angel, but she's no better or worse than I am. Ultimately, what I needed to accept is that she lives a completely different life than mine, therefore making our lives incomparable.

All of my strife was fueled by ego. These things always are. Was I jealous? Maybe. Was it that I wasn't over him? Possibly. Or was it that my ego wouldn't allow me to be, because I kept getting the sense that I'd lost? However, I didn't lose anything. There was no competition, no race to see which of us could move on or start dating first, aside from the one my ego created. The only thing I ended up losing was myself (and maybe my mind a little too).

We do have a say in whether we want to keep these egoic demons company or send them off to the next dimension. The lesson I learned from this self-inflicted hell was if we are able to drop our weapons and honestly answer: what's really driving our unhappiness and inability to move on? Is it that we're unable to accept the present or unable to accept ourselves? Or, perhaps both? Either way, we can gain a multitude of self-awareness and in turn self-love by doing whatever it takes (even if it means deactivating your social media accounts for a while) to grant ourselves the necessary freedom and happiness we all so deserve.

Remember this solid piece of advice that a wise person once told me: "There's a reason you broke up." Honor that. Once I did and accepted everything for what it was and is - including myself - I chose happiness over heartache, started celebrating who I am, and finally learned what it actually meant to love myself. I had finally earned my wings.

How 2 Childhood Friends Harnessed the Power of Crystals and Built an Empire

Going into business with a lifelong friend can be messy, but Heather Askinosie and Timmi Jandro make it look easy. In fact, they credit their long personal relationship (they've known each other since they were just 6 years old!) with maintaining a balanced business partnership that just works.

Heather and Timmi started their healing crystal jewelry business, Energy Muse Jewelry, in California 17 years ago, long before crystals were a burgeoning trend. From humble car trunk beginnings, the duo created a crystal empire that now counts such high-profile performers and athletes as Lena Dunham and David Beckham among their clients.

Read ahead to find out how these two women harnessed their differences to create an effective partnership and a successful business. And be sure to check out their upcoming book, Crystal Muse, Everyday Rituals to Tune Into the Real You, publishing in October 2017.

POPSUGAR: When was the idea born to start Energy Muse? How did you get started?

Heather Askinosie: Thirty years ago, when I was selling luxury real estate in Southern California, a client asked me to find him a home with good feng shui. At that point in my life, I had no idea what feng shui was or the world of energy, and that's what truly opened the door for me. From there, I stumbled upon a crystal store and I was hooked. I began to live a double life, selling real estate by day and spending the nights with the crystals in this store. The more time I spent with them, the more I knew that I could no longer live this double life - I had to take a leap of faith. I used the money I'd saved from selling homes and traveled the world to study with indigenous healers, shamans, and medicine people who all bestowed their wisdom to me by word of mouth. When I returned, I wanted to test the knowledge and wisdom I'd gained to see how I could share this with more people - I've always been a skeptic by nature, so I had to see the results for myself. I made 10 necklaces combining my knowledge of feng shui and crystals. It was called Prosperity, and it incorporated jade beads and three Chinese coins tied with red string. I gave it to 10 of my friends - Timmi was one of them, as I knew she would be honest with me - asking them to wear it for 10 days and let me know what happened. Every single one of them came back with some sort of shift in prosperity. After that, everyone wanted to get their hands on one of these necklaces, but I had one problem - I didn't know how to produce product. That's where Timmi entered the picture.

Timmi Jandro: My background was in the garment industry, and I'd had the experience of learning all facets of a business - from sales to production to shipping to customer service. I got a small production team together, and we literally started selling product out of the trunks of our cars. Soon word spread to the Hollywood A-listers about this prosperity-bringing necklace. We were ushered into Hollywood parties to sell our "energy beads." It's like we were doing energy deals with the most influential and successful people, giving them a competitive edge. From there, we began to create more products for other intentions to grow our offerings. And that's how we got our start!

PS: You two have known each other since you were 6! What have you found are the advantages of having a business partner you've known for nearly your entire life?

HA: Blackmail. Just kidding! Because we've known each other for so long (and I also know all her astrological info), sometimes we don't even have to talk. We already know what the other one will say.

TJ: Trust. The trust factor is there, so a lot of the things that most business partners have to worry about, we don't.

PS: What do you think is the key to maintaining a healthy business partnership?

HA: I'm a starter and Timmi's a finisher. That's why our partnership works. I'm always into the new, researching things. I'm good at the initial burst, and then I'm on to the next thing. And Timmi likes to complete things and cross things off the list - she can follow up and finish the things I start.

TJ: We each bring a different skill-set to the business. I handle more of the operations, production, and sales, while Heather is the crystal expert and handles more of the big-picture ideas so that we are always on the leading edge of this industry.

PS: Congratulations on your upcoming book! What was the experience like of writing it together? And how did that experience of working together on the book compare to running your day-to-day business operations?

HA: At certain points, I felt like I was Timmi's therapist (I still need to send her a bill for my services). Due to being together for an exorbitant amount of time, we were forced to move through uncomfortable conversations, strict deadlines, and immense pressure - and came out better for it.

TJ: I mean, we almost killed each other at one point. Balancing the book, the business, and our families was a challenge for the year that we were writing the book. I feel that we both truly learned each other's processes by working so closely. I learned I can suffocate Heather with my planning, and I get anxiety from her lack of planning! We gained a greater appreciation and understanding of each other, both as friends and business partners.

PS: You've collaborated with so many interesting clients, from Lena Dunham to David Beckham - who has been the most exciting client to work with and why?

HA and TJ: If we remember correctly, our jewelry was the first gift that Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum gave each other when they first started dating. To meet them at the beginning of their careers and to see how open they were to the world of energy was truly inspiring. Also, working with pro athletes and Olympians has been something that has been very rewarding for us. It's such a mental game for them, and to see them push themselves to the next level - mentally, physically, and emotionally - really puts the whole mind, body, and spirit connection together.

PS: What has been the most rewarding aspect of running your business together?

HA: That you're not alone. You get to share the successes (and the failures) with someone. You have someone to go to the highs and lows with. Because that's the reality of being in business. We started our company out of the trunks of our cars, and now we are a global brand. And we did it purely on passion, purpose, and a vision.

TJ: There's always someone to bounce ideas off of and to work through things with someone you can trust. Looking back at the beginning of the business and seeing where we started and what we've built over the past 17 years is so special. And it's even better that there's someone to share it with.

PS: Any advice for other women considering following their passions to open their own business?

HA: You have to continue to have fun, to grow, and to learn. As women, we are so multidimensional. It's important for us to not get locked into a box. Keep curious and go beyond what you think you're capable of - because you're capable of way more than you think. It's cool to be a female-owned business because you can write your own rules - the sky is the limit.

TJ: Don't give up. Even if your idea or product may be ahead of its time. Stay authentic and true to yourself. And if you are living your life's purpose, you
will be successful.

Orly's New Collection Finally Makes It Possible For Muslims to Wear Nail Polish

Many Muslim men and women are not able to wear regular nail polish because it conflicts with prayer practices. The coats of polish are believed to create a barrier over the skin, which prevents water from touching every part of the body during ablutions, but Orly's new polish collection offers a solution. In an effort to bridge the diversity gap in the beauty world, the polish brand has teamed up with Muslim Girl to release a new collection of six halal-certified polishes, all of which let oxygen and moisture pass through the polish.

The Breathable line called #HalalPaint features adorably sassy polish names like Haram-Bae, The Perfect Amani-Cure, What the Fatima?, Ig-Noor the Haters, and more, named by MuslimGirl.com founder Amani Al-Khatahtbeh and the Muslim Girl team.

"This line is important because there are so many girls and young women who aren't represented in mainstream beauty," Azmia Magane, Muslim Girl chief of staff, said in a press release. "They either don't fit that definition or see things about them that are designed without them, instead of for them and by them. This is our way of bridging the gap."

And this collection is exactly that and more. While it's created by Muslim women for Muslim women, all women (or men!) can wear it. In addition to the polishes being made of 100 percent halal ingredients, making them permitted under Islamic law, they are made with great ingredients - like argan oil, pro-vitamin B5, and vitamin C - to promote healthy nails.

"Many of us are the girls who could never find our names on a keychain, so we wanted to make sure we provided that experience through the collection," Al-Khatahtbeh said. This collection is an incredible way to acknowledge the diverse religions that also exist in the beauty world. Although the polishes were made for Muslim women, anyone can wear them!

The six-piece collection is available for preorder on halalpaint.com for $49 and will ship on July 1. Keep reading to see photos of the stunning colors.

10 Father's Day Grooming Gift Ideas That He'll Actually Want - According to a Guy

Every year around mid May, I wake up in a cold sweat and ask myself, "Did I miss Father's Day again this year?" Luckily, I have not, (yet.) It's June 18, by the way. In order to make sure I don't blow it off again this year, I always like to come up with a list of gifts to have on reserve just in case I do end up cutting it close. You could do what everyone else does and get him a tie or grilling tools, but grooming products are nice, because guys don't ever think of buying them for themselves. Besides, your dad probably uses hand soap for everything.

The Sunscreen That Saved My Skin From the Scorching Sun at Walt Disney World

I have a confession to make: I'm a reluctant user of sunscreen. I know I'm supposed to use it to protect myself from sun damage, fine lines, and the like, but I've never enjoyed the feeling of sunscreen lurking beneath my usual makeup. What's more, many drugstore sunscreens had the tendency to irritate my skin and cause unusual rashes. With an exciting trip to Walt Disney World's Pandora steadily approaching, however, I knew I needed something to protect my skin from the harsh Florida sun, and I needed it ASAP.

Through a little process of elimination, I landed on Tatcha's Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen ($65). My daily skincare routine largely consists of products from the gentle brand inspired by Japanese beauty practices. In addition to knowing that Tatcha products typically work well for me, the line's sunscreen boasts a near perfect five-star review on Sephora.

Now here's the nitty-gritty on this sunscreen: the broad-spectrum product is made with zinc oxide and offers SPF 35 protection from UVA and UVB rays. In addition to its protective ingredients, it also consists of calming ones like silk extract, wild rose, and green tea. The sunscreen does come out of the bottle white, but it blends in easily with minimal effort.

As I left for the airport early in the morning, I applied a thin layer of the sunscreen and immediately noticed a change in the appearance of my pores. As a result, I decided to go without makeup until I arrived in Orlando. (Plus, I hate flying with loads of makeup on.) Before hitting the park, I applied yet another layer and, this time, I also applied foundation and concealer atop the sunscreen. To my surprise, the combination of different products did not make my skin feel all covered up and suffocated.

The following day was the real test: I'd be spending a full sunny day at Animal Kingdom. I made sure to apply a thicker layer as I left the hotel that day. Now, here's where you might say I made a huge mistake: I did not reapply. Probably because I'm not used to wearing sunscreen on a regular basis, I completely forgot about the handy bottle of sunscreen once it made its way to the depths of my backpack. Once I got back to the hotel in the early evening, I noticed a reddish color on my shoulders and simply thought to myself, "F*ck." But guess what? My face ended up being just fine. Though my arms were sunburned, my face didn't show any signs of sun exposure.

Since my trip, I won't lie and say I've been as committed to sunscreen as I know I'm supposed to be. That said, I have learned to implement it into my daily routine when it's a sunny day or I know I'm going to be outside a lot. That's progress, right?

The Keepers: 6 Theories About What Really Happened to Sister Cathy

If you've not already become consumed by the gripping Netflix docu-series The Keepers, you've probably begun at least seeing discussions about it on social media . . . and for good reason. The seven-episode docuseries explores the 1969 death of Catholic nun and Baltimore schoolteacher Sister Cathy Cesnik and touches on 20-year-old Joyce Malecki's murder mere days later. Both slayings remain unsolved today.

To say that the findings in the series are troubling would be an understatement; The Keepers reveals a wide-scale web of corruption, abuse, and collusion within the Catholic church in Baltimore and appears to link local law enforcement to the deliberate mishandling of the case in order to preserve the archdiocese's reputation.

Editor's Note: Before you press "play," be warned. There is an abundance of content in the show that will deeply upset you, but perhaps most horrific is the graphic description of sexual abuse.

After marathoning your way through the series, the question remains: who killed Sister Cathy? While several people of interest are introduced, interviewed, and investigated by amateur sleuths/badasses (and former students of Cesnik's) Gemma Hoskins and Abbie Schaub, no conclusion about the murder is reached. There is still an active Facebook group run by the two now-retirees and grandmothers, asking for any theories or information pertaining to Sister Cathy's death.

Since the show's premiere, a subreddit about the cold case has gained popularity, resulting in even more guesses about whodunnit. Par for the course with anything involving open internet forums, purported explanations for Cathy's death range from compelling to totally out there. Here are the proposed killers who we think are worth considering - but beware, you'll only be left with more questions.

Luke Bryan Attempts Some of Jason Derulo's Dance Moves During CMT Performance

Although the CMT Awards made sure to trot out some tried-and-true combinations (Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, we're looking at you), the show also introduced country music fans to some rather unique mashups. After Florida Georgia Line teamed up with The Chainsmokers for a surprisingly catchy performance, Luke Bryan and Jason Derulo reunited to belt out "Want to Want Me" and "Strip It Down." It was the cherry on top for the duo, who took home the CMT Award for performance of the year for their appearance on CMT Crossroads.

This Senator's Withering Reaction to Being Manterrupted Is So Very Relatable

Image Source: Getty / Chip Somodevilla

Senator Kamala Harris was none too pleased when she was manterrupted by Senator Richard Burr - not once, but twice - during an intelligence hearing on surveillance and Russia on June 7. The senator from California, who is a seasoned former prosecutor, was cheered on social media for her refusal to back down and her commitment to asking tough questions during the hearing on Capitol Hill. But as she interrogated Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Burr interrupted and talked over her, accusing her of not giving witnesses adequate opportunity to respond to her inquiries. Watch the moment unfold here:

Truly, Harris's "nope" face said it all:

The apparent sexism at play in Burr's treatment of Harris was not lost on Oregon Senator Ron Wyden. Harris's fellow Democrat took to Twitter to point out that, when he asked similarly tough questions in the hearing, Burr didn't cut him off.

And Wyden wasn't the only person to point out the mansplain-y, misogynistic treatment Harris faced:

We think it's safe to say that every woman has encountered a Burr in her life, but we're letting Harris's refusal to be deterred serve as a reminder that, no, we don't have to pardon manterruptions. Burrs of the world, take note.

Dad-to-Be Ian Somerhalder Is Adorably Attentive to Pregnant Wife Nikki Reed

Have we mentioned lately how adorable Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed are together? The couple, who are currently expecting their first child together, enjoyed a sweet day date on Tuesday as they grabbed a bite to eat at Gjelina in Venice, CA. Like a true gentleman, the Vampire Diaries star helped his wife cross the street by lending his arm and cuddling up to her as they waited for traffic. His beloved character, Damon Salvatore, may be dead, but Ian proves time and time again that chivalry isn't. If you need us, we'll just be flipping through these photos and swooning over Ian and Nikki's sweet, sweet love.
