10 Big Details We Have About the Stranger Things Season 2
This post has been updated with new information.
If you watched and loved Netflix's new sci-fi megahit Stranger Things, we've got good news and bad news. The good news is that Netflix has confirmed that there will be a second season and released two short teasers that give a few clues about what's next. The bad news is that the Duffer Brothers, who created the show, also pretty much confirmed the tragic fate of Barb, the darling outcast whom countless viewers fell in love with despite her not-so-ample screen time. This latest information comes from a new interview with IGN, in which the Duffer brothers drop the first hints about the second season and explain the situation with Barb. If anything, it might make the wait for the next season a bit more bearable . . . but if you need more ideas for passing the time, you could always plan your Stranger Things Halloween costume or listen to that '80s-tastic soundtrack hundreds of times. Check out what we know so far below.
- Eleven will be back: Though her fate was questionable at the end of the first season, Millie Bobby Brown is returning as Eleven. Whether she'll still foster an obsession with waffles is questionable.
- There will be new faces: Producer Shawn Levy spoke to SlashFilm about the fate of season two, and what they hope to accomplish. "We definitely are hopeful to go several more seasons. And the plan is to continue with this set of characters while introducing a few critical key new ones next season," he said. "So I'll just say that a lot of the big mysteries get answered at the end of season one, but we are very much kind of unearthing new problems and questions that merit future stories and future investigation in the most enjoyable way. So we are in love with our cast and our characters."
- Brenner will likely be back: Matt Duffer said, "I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner . . . as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me, when the monster jumps on him and we cut away. He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there's a possibility of seeing him again."

- A few new characters have been announced! According to THR, three new characters have joined the fold. There's Max, a "tough and confident 13-year-old female whose appearance, behavior and pursuits are more typical of boys than of girls in the era." She's great with a skateboard. There's Billy, a "supermuscular, overconfident 17-year-old. He's so captivating and edgy that there are rumors flying around that he killed someone at a school he attended in the past." And finally, there's Roman, a "male or a female of any ethnicity between the ages of 30 and 38." In October, two new casting additions were announced. Dacre Montgomery, pictured here, will play Billy, and Sadie Sink will play Max. Both of the characters have been listed above as newcomers in Hawkins.
- Matt Duffer on whether Barb will be in season two: "I can't see it happening . . . but Barb will not be forgotten. We'll make sure there's some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn't seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We're just not spending any screen time on it."
- On what else season two would tackle: "Part of what we want to do with hypothetical season two is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened," said Duffer. Gaten Matarazzo opened up to Emmy Magazine about his role next season, as well: "You're going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with what's been going on ... They're all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend is back and he's not acting like their best friend anymore. He's changed."
- More nitty-gritty details: It will be set in 1984 (picking up sometime in the Fall, which is about a year after the events in season one) and consist of nine episodes.
- The premiere date: According to a teaser that ran during the Super Bowl, season two will premiere on Halloween!
- The first season two teaser: Clocking in at just under a minute long, the short video doesn't give us much. What it does do, though, is reveal the names of each episode in the new season: "Mad Max," "The Boy Who Came Back to Life," "The Pumpkin Patch," "The Palace," "The Storm," "The Pollywog," "The Secret Cabin," "The Brain," and "The Lost Brother."
- The second season two teaser: Check it out here!
Keith Urban Dedicates His Big CMT Awards Win to Wife Nicole Kidman
Keith Urban's big night at the CMT Awards on Wednesday night doubled as a romantic date night with wife Nicole Kidman. The couple looked like two kids in love as they hit the red carpet, giggling and whispering in each other's ears. Once inside, Keith hit the stage with Carrie Underwood for a beautiful acoustic rendition of their song "The Fighter." Keith also took home the award for male video of the year and gave Nicole and their daughters - Sunday, 8, and Faith, 6 - the sweetest shout-out in his speech. "I want to say a massive thank you to my wife Nicole," he said. "You have no idea how much of what I do . . . she's involved in every little piece of it. She hates me saying this, but I want it to be said. She helps me so much making these videos what they are. To our little girls at home, Sunny and Fifi, we're going to bring you next time for sure!"
Mom Perfectly Sums Up the Moment a Teacher Finally Noticed What She's "Always Seen" in Her Son
When Meg Rowe made the difficult decision to put her 2-year-old son in preschool, she had no idea that the separation from Teddy wouldn't be the only struggle she'd have to endure.
"A couple months in, his teachers casually mentioned that he didn't talk," she wrote in a Facebook post. "I was so distressed because he was so loud at home. What was I doing wrong?"
A few months later, and those same teachers reported that he now only spoke in whispers: "Teachers said if they looked at him he went mute. Was I making him feel like he couldn't be loud? Like he would get in trouble? I spent hours at home going, 'IT'S OK TO SCREAAAAAAMMMMM!!!' and having him double over in hysterics."
It was painful for this self-proclaimed "inexperienced parent" to watch her kid act one way at home and then shut down at school.
After eight long months, both she and her husband, Kyle, happened to drop him off for the first time together. The teacher gave them an update on Teddy.
"The teacher says, 'Wow, Teddy. A big change! Not only does he talk, all the time, to everyone, but he is . . .' (pause for considering her words carefully) 'just a really good friend. The ultimate friend! To everyone here,'" Meg recalled. "Is there really a better compliment to be had for anyone, of any age?"
Like all the parents of shy children who can perfectly relate, Meg couldn't help but cry:
"So, you know, don't mind the tears of a mom at 8:30 in the morning standing in her preschooler's classroom when she realizes someone else - unbiased - sees what she's always seen."
Al Franken Shut Down Bill O'Reilly Back in 2003 and It's Just So Satisfying
Before Google, it was a lot easier to lie about your success and get away with it. But if you're Bill O'Reilly and Al Franken is on your case, it wasn't so simple. Back in 2003, then-comedian Al Franken was promoting his satirical book about the conservative media, Lies: And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right and he happened to share the stage with O'Reilly at BookExpo.
The clip begins with O'Reilly aptly explaining how he didn't have to "retract one story" throughout his six and a half years on The O'Reilly Factor. "If I'm going to be accused of being a liar, now you better have something there," said O'Reilly.
This Old Clip of Steve Bannon, Anthony Bourdain, and Neil deGrasse Tyson Is Crazy to See Now
Well, as it turns out, Franken did have ample evidence to proclaim O'Reilly a liar - and he does it on stage, right in front of a fuming O'Reilly. Taking the stage after O'Reilly's remarks, Franken described how he heard O'Reilly repeatedly laud his then-show, Inside Edition, for winning three Peabody Awards. O'Reilly was defending the show from being labeled as "tabloid TV." Franken, astounded by Inside Edition's journalism achievements, decided to investigate.
"So I go to the Peabody website and look for Inside Edition Peabody Awards and there aren't any," Franken explained. "Then I call the Peabody people and I said, 'Did you guys give Inside Edition a Peabody?' and there was some laughter."
After following a lengthy trail of sources, Franken discovered that neither O'Reilly nor Inside Edition ever won a Peabody. Inside Edition did win another journalism award, the Polk Award, a year after O'Reilly left however. "Usually I find that if you find someone made a mistake, if you ask them to correct it, they do correct it," Franken joked. "Not in this society anymore. So Bill, I'm sorry to call you one of the many people who do lie in my book."
"See, this is why you don't retract things," Franken bashed. "You just continuously lie." When Franken's comments conclude, O'Reilly attempts to defend himself by silencing Franken, there's a brief spat, and it's clear Franken has gotten under O'Reilly's skin: he's only capable of responding by telling Franken to "shut up."
It's also clear that Franken has a point: pundits, particularly on the far right, have long manipulated information when it benefits them or their cause. Alternative facts are not new; they simply have a new name.

Love Coffee but Have Anxiety? Here's How to Drink Up, Sans Panic Attacks
Have anxiety but coffee is your everything? We get it. But if you've ever had a caffeine-induced panic attack, you know the uncomfortable, emotionally distressful, sometimes even painful and frightening sensations that can happen - so how do you find a happy medium? We chatted with some doctors to find out if there were tips and tricks for mitigating the effects of caffeine so you can drink your daily joe without inducing a panic attack (or even just anxious, jittery feelings). As it turns out, there are! Here are five tactics (they're so simple) to keep your body and brain happy while getting a nice lift from your morning brew.
- Keep it to one cup a day: All of the doctors we spoke with OK'ed one cup of coffee each day. Moderation can prevent a caffeine-induced panic attack and also will keep your dependence on caffeine low, as it can be incredibly addictive, according to Dr. Mirwat Sami. "With more than two cups of coffee, a person could feel palpitations, heart racing, and irritability," he said.
- Drink it hot: Warm drinks can have a soothing effect, thus mitigating anxious effects. "Drinking hot liquid helps with calming your nervous system," psychotherapist and anxiety expert Jodi Aman told POPSUGAR.
- Drink it early: Dr. Sami said that drinking coffee early in the day can limit its side effects, so keep it early and don't reach for the pot to get through a 3 p.m. slump.
- Water-back it: Water can help dilute the caffeine, so drink a glass of water before and after your coffee to curb the feelings of anxiety. Dehydration can also cause anxiety, and coffee is a diuretic, so make sure you stay hydrated (we got this tip from naturopathic Dr. Gabrielle Francis, author of The Rockstar Remedy).
- Supplement it: Caffeine depletes the body's magnesium, according to Dr. Carolyn Dean, MD, ND. "Serotonin, the feel-good brain chemical, depends on magnesium for its production and function; magnesium is known as the antistress, antianxiety mineral for this reason," she said. Take a magnesium supplement (or eat a banana or some dark chocolate!) or grab a stress- and depression-fighting supplement like L-Theanine or a vitamin B complex.

7 Things That We'll See in Stranger Things Season 2
After months of wondering, we've managed to round up our first shreds of evidence about the second season of Stranger Things. It all started at the beginning of February, when Netflix dropped an exciting teaser and premiere date during the Super Bowl. Oh, but that's not all. Shortly thereafter, Entertainment Weekly cracked the season wide open with exclusive new plot details. We've pulled the most interesting revelations (so far) below.
1. Will Byers Will Face Emotional Trauma After His Ordeal
As you might remember, Will Byers's creepy finale behavior suggests he may have lost a piece of himself in the Upside Down. Cocreator Matt Duffer explained, "He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down. The question is whether they're real or not. So it seems like he's having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder." Noah Schnapp, who plays Will, told E! News that he's exploring a much darker side to the character. "They'll get more into Will's storyline and they'll talk about how the Upside Down affected him," he said. "I have a lot of emotionally challenging scenes this year too." Schnapp's costar Finn Wolfhard (aka Mike) also opened up about Will's journey, saying, "Will is having this very, very weird ride through, like, who he really is and if he's OK. He's not very human anymore, you know? So we're sort of trying to find out what's wrong with him."
2. Joyce Byers Will Have a New Romantic Interest
As a way of coping with all the trauma she experiences in season one, Joyce tries to anchor herself with the help of a former high school classmate. "She's trying to mask a lot," Winona Ryder explained. "I think she's made this choice with Bob because she wants a good father figure in her sons' lives."
3. Both of the New Characters Play Pivotal Roles
The cast of the second season has two major newcomers: Sadie Sink and Dacre Montgomery, who play brother and sister Max and Billy. While Max will hang around with the rest of the gang, Billy is more of a threat. Matt Duffer explained how the master of horror influenced this choice: "Stephen King always has really great human villains. The evil in the real world is often as bad or worse than the supernatural evil, so we wanted to introduce a character like that."
4. Dustin Will Find a Strange New Pet
"It's a little creature I get to bond with," Gaten Matarazzo teased. "It's obviously not from this planet or this dimension."
5. Nancy and Mike Will Have a Lot of Grief to Process
"[Nancy] and Mike are both the most screwed-up because they're the ones who both lost someone," cocreator Ross Duffer explained. "They're both grappling with that, and we see the effects."
6. Hopper Will Mostly Focus on Covering Up What Happened
David Harbour dished a little on what the town's police chief will be up to: "It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, 'This did happen and this didn't happen.' He's struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up." In an interview with E! News in June, he elaborated on what his character will get up to. "Hopper's under a lot of stress when we meet him, because he's got to sort of put tops on all these pots," he said. "And he's also involved some way in the reemergence of this Eleven character."
7. Eleven's Return Is Complex
While chatting with E! News, Harbour also let slip a few key details about Eleven's status. "You do know that Hopper left some Eggo waffles in a box in the woods, and you know that that rift, we never really saw it get closed," he said. "And you know that lab is still, in some iteration, out there, and you know that only certain people in the town knew what happened last year." Eleven's tormentor at the lab might get what's coming to him at the end of the first season, but if the organization is still up and running, she might have a few more battles ahead of her.

We are thrilled to see her signature hairstyle coming back, with many celebrities rocking the trend both at events and in their everyday lives.
On the icon's 71st birthday, Kim Kardashian posted nine photos of Cher to her Instagram, calling the singer her "fashion icon." Since Kim has been rocking this hair for a few months now, it's clear she draws a lot of beauty inspiration from Cher as well.

I Finally Found the Perfect Pan and I'm Never Looking Back
If you're on the hunt for a nonstick pan that you will love tenderly, invest in a Scanpan. Before you freak out over the $125 price tag, allow me to explain. I discovered Scanpan during culinary school when I was on the hunt for a small nonstick pan for eggs. Wary of Teflon, I inquired about alternatives. The store employee shared that Scanpan is nontoxic, made of recycled aluminum and ceramic, doesn't scratch, can be used with metal utensils, can go in the oven . . . and despite the price sucking my bank account dry, I hightailed it to the cash register.
Sure enough, the Scanpan delivered on all those promises. I can scramble or fry eggs without them sticking. I can sear a steak. I can make oatmeal without soaking the pot for the next three days. Cleaning is a cinch too. I can't remember the last time I had to break a sweat scrubbing down a pan. The food just glides off. I've had my same pans for almost a decade now. I love them. However, they do require a little fussy maintenance to make them last longer, but when you just threw down 100 bucks for a pan, the extra effort pays off. Remember to use medium heat or lower when cooking with them and be sure to hand wash and dry them immediately after using. If you can get on board with those two habits, you'll be in cook's heaven.
I've since given Scanpans to my parents, boyfriend, and best friends (spoiler: it's my go-to wedding gift). They are all now Scanpan believers. The Scanpan is the perfect pan in my opinion, and I'm never looking back.

The Powerful Way Makeup Helped This Woman With a Feeding Tube "Feel Gorgeous"
Emily Jones is just like many aspiring makeup artists on Instagram - she has long lashes and perfectly penciled eyebrows and loves a good matte lip. But unlike others, Emily has a rare tissue disease called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (type 3) and has a feeding tube taped to the side of her face. While she was undeniably "self-conscious" because of her disease, the 22-year-old woman has credited makeup for helping bring back her confidence, and she's got some serious makeup skills!
As a self-proclaimed "aspiring makeup artist," one may wonder if a feeding tube taped to the side of her face gets in the way of her glittery looks, but Emily told Allure she works around it. "I create looks around my tube by leaving a little bit of a gap around the edges so the tape doesn't come off or come loose," she said. "I try to put lots of drama on my eyes, the other side of my face or on my lips to detract from the tube. But the tube is a part of me, and I'm grateful for it as it and the nourishment it gives me when I can't keep anything down myself."
Just three years ago, she developed a love for makeup after watching tons of YouTube tutorials. Emily credits Carli Bybel and Nikkie Tutorials for not only teaching her how to get a bomb winged eye, but also for helping her believe in her own skills. And she plans to start her own YouTube channel one day!
"Makeup means everything to me it gives me the confidence to be myself without the judgment of others," she said. "Makeup takes away the self-consciousness I feel because of my NG tube and makes me feel gorgeous! [Highlighter] makes me glow and brings out confidence and happiness in me."
By sharing her love for makeup on Instagram, Emily is inspiring others to embrace their own differences and do whatever makes them happy.
Keep reading to see some of Emily's makeup looks.
There Really Is a Star From Every State!
Hollywood is like a Miss America pageant: people flock from every state to get a piece of the action. As it turns out, not all stars were born and raised in LA; Jennifer Lawrence, George Clooney, and Johnny Depp are all from Kentucky, while Emma Stone calls Arizona home. Pennsylvania has bred quite a few leading men, and Louisiana raised both a romantic-comedy sweetheart and one of TV's most bloodthirsty vampires. Read through to find out who is from where!

A FOX News Host Tells Trump Fake News Isn't the Problem - He Is
President Donald Trump's erratic tweets about the London attacks and the travel ban make his administration look like a mess, and one FOX news host is taking note. Neil Cavuto, who hosts the FOX Show Your World With Neil Cavuto, remarked on the president's tweeting behavior on June 6, saying, "Mr. President, it is not the fake news media that's your problem. It's you."
Cavuto continued with, "It's not just your tweeting, it's your scapegoating. It's your refusal to see that sometimes, you're the one who's feeding your own beast." The host spoke about how the president continues to turn on people in his administration, even though they're the ones fighting for him. Cavuto also touched upon Trump's supporters and what they actually want from him. "That's what your most ardent supporters are pushing for, for you to keep pushing. They want you signing legislation, not settling endless scores. They're not saying, never let 'em see you tweet. They are saying, never let 'em see you sweat." You can watch the segment ahead.
FOX News Anchor Defends Obama When a Former Trump Adviser Tries Politicizing the Manchester Attack
The talk ends with Cavuto saying, "Now, just because your own critics never thought you'd make it to the White House doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to those who want to see you thrive in that White House. They're not your problem, Mister President. Like I said, you are." It's not the first time a FOX host has taken a stance against the president, despite the network's well-documented conservative leaning, and it most likely won't be the last.

Everything the Cast of Gilmore Girls Has Said About a Possible Season 2
As soon as we zipped through Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, we had one question. OK, we had several questions, but the biggest one is: will there be more episodes, or is this truly the end? After all, the "Fall" episode leaves us with a huge cliffhanger! Will creator Amy Sherman-Palladino leave us to speculate about all those open-ended storylines? The cast and creators are appearing very neutral in interviews, but we've combed through and found all the tidbits that could indicate a second season . . . or not. But maybe. Take a look!
You'll Need Oven Mitts to Watch Fifth Harmony's "Down" Music Video - It's That Hot
The next time you're looking for somewhere to stay on vacation, don't rule out going to a skeezy motel, because you just might bump into Fifth Harmony. For their latest music video, "Down," the girl group turns the heat up to 11 (see: writhing around on hotel beds, splashing each other in a hot tub) with the help of Gucci Mane. It's their first video without Camila Cabello, who left the band in late 2016 to pursue her own solo music, but we guarantee you won't even notice.
2017 Is Already Looking Much Better Thanks to These New Celebrity Couples
Last year was a disastrous year for love in Hollywood, but luckily, 2017 is already looking a lot better thanks to a select number of celebrity couples who have decided to give love a shot. Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have not been shy about flaunting their newfound romance all over the globe, while Lady Gaga and her man have been keeping a low profile. Shay Mitchell and Amy Poehler, on the other hand, both have yet to publicly step out with their new boyfriends, but we're holding out hope that they do so soon.
Hoda and Kathie Lee Drinking Wine on Stage at the CMTs Will Make You Say "Me"
Even if you don't watch Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford's hour of the Today show, there's still a good chance you've heard about the duo's love of wine. No matter how early it is, they're always willing to throw one (or two or three) back on TV. They brought their passion to the CMT Awards on Wednesday night while presenting an award and couldn't have looked happier with their liquid accessories. While giggling with each other on stage and posing for photos with Jason Derulo and Luke Bryan, the wine glasses didn't leave their hands (and we don't blame them!).

Why Mom Friends Are Important and How to Form Those Lasting Bonds
There's no guarantee that the friends you make before getting pregnant will be your friends for life, just like there's no way to know if the women you become close to during the start of your motherhood journey will be there toward the end. But these fellow moms that you befriend through mommy groups, school, and classes are important for however long you have them.
Not only are these women generally going through the same life experiences as you, but they also become an invaluable asset and support system during this new stage of your life. From sharing wisdom, support, compassion, and some game-changing hacks, these ladies can be indispensable.
Here's how to not only make mom friends, but to start forming lasting bonds.
- Put yourself out there. Entering into the world of mom friends is like starting at a new school - you get a fresh slate. The type of person you typically gravitate doesn't really matter, because no matter what type of mom you meet, you already have something universal in common (being a parent!). This makes starting that first conversation or extending that friendship olive branch even easier.
- Be vulnerable with new women. Don't be afraid to ask those awkward questions, confess those embarrassing mom fails, and vent about your biggest worries and insecurities. Chances are if you're having a problem with something, these fellow mamas have had similar issues, or know friends who have, and will be more than willing to help find a solutions for you.
- Play up the commonalities. When these friendships start, it's typically because you have certain things in common: your location, or your kids' ages or interests. As you start to get to know each other within these bubbles you can begin to rely and depend on each other because you know what the other is going through at least in relation to this one area of her life.
- Bond over the differences. After getting to know each other based on what you had in common that helped draw you together, revealing other sides of yourself is the next step in this friendship. Being able to share dissenting points of views, perspectives, and life experiences can make you even better friends.
- Invite others in. It's amazing how quickly friend groups and support systems can grow just from a simple invite and open attitude. After inviting one mom for coffee, you can go from feeling isolated to a group of two, and after a few more invitations, you may all of a sudden have a large group of women who have each others' backs.

1 Mom's Honest Perspective After Her Child Was Left to Die in a Hot Car
Twenty-six. That's the number of heatstroke deaths of children left in cars in 2016. That's already two more than last year's final count, and the hottest season of the year isn't even over yet.
Many parents hear the news stories about these deaths and immediately think, "I could never do that." Maybe that's true, but there's a good chance that the parents of the 26 children lost this year thought the exact same thing. These hot car accidents happen so often that it seems as if they'll never stop being "a thing," but one family is choosing to speak out about their daughter, Lily, whose dad forgot her in the back of his car.
On the day 5-month-old Lily died, her dad forgot to drop her off at day care and drove straight to work without realizing, until he went to pick her up at the end of the day. Lily's mother, who has forgiven her husband for his thoughtless mistake, told KHOU about that life-changing day.
"Normally, I take the older two kids to school, but today, he was trying to bless me and took all three of them. . . . When he walked up to the [day care] door, they just looked at him and said, 'She hasn't been here all day.' There were 15 seconds of 'How could he do that?' Immediately instant forgiveness washed over me."
Since her daughter's death, Lily's mom has been writing letters to other parents who have gone through this same nightmare and has shared her story on camera to show that healing is possible - that this could happen to anyone. "If I can help one family, one child . . . " she said. "It's important for people to know that it happens to good people."

25 Times Kim Changed Her Outfit - and Kanye Wore His Sweatshirt
As a music icon, budding designer, and pop culture fixture, Kanye West has accomplished a lot in his career. But there may be no professional feat quite so noteworthy as his epic makeover of wife Kim Kardashian. We firmly believe that Kanye is the man behind each and every one of her high-fashion looks, and every time Kim steps out in Balmain, Lanvin, or Balenciaga to sit front row, stroll around Paris, or just snap a selfie, we have to give Kanye credit.
We're also starting to suspect that dressing Kim must be even more exhausting than keeping up with her outfits, because while she's all dolled up, it's come to our attention that Kanye is just the opposite. For every skintight pencil skirt or belly-baring crop top Kim gets zipped into, Kanye's chilling in a casual sweatshirt. Here, relive all the times that Kim changed her designer duds and Kanye happily wore his hoodie.
You'll Want to Walk Down the Aisle to This Version of Carrie and Keith's "The Fighter"
Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban did not come to play at the CMT Awards in Nashville on Wednesday. After hitting the red carpet with wife Nicole Kidman, Keith took the stage with Carrie for a beautiful performance of their duet, "The Fighter." While we love the original version of the song, this raw, stripped-down version is definitely something we can see ourselves walking down the aisle to at our weddings.

Leonardo DiCaprio Has Never Done This With Any Other Girlfriend But Gisele Bündchen
Remember that one time Leonardo DiCaprio brought a girlfriend as his date to the Oscars? Yeah, we almost didn't either. But it really happened! The Hollywood heartthrob was dating supermodel Gisele Bündchen when he received a best actor nomination for his role in The Aviator back in 2005. Instead of bringing his mom, Irmelin (or his BFF Kate Winslet) as he normally does, he brought Gisele. Dressed in a white strapless Dior gown, Gisele was all smiles as she practically floated down the red carpet on Leo's arm. Unfortunately, Leo went home without an award that night - as we all know, he didn't end up winning his first Oscar until 2016.
Leo and Gisele dated on and off between 1999 and 2005, and while their split was reportedly amicable, Gisele was the one who called it quits. "We know what we had. We were very young, and we grew together in a lot of ways," she said in a 2009 Vanity Fair interview. "We were just not meant to be boyfriend and girlfriend, but I respect him enormously, and I wish him nothing but the best." To this day, Gisele is the only girlfriend Leo has ever brought as an award show date. Keep reading to relive the historic moment.
A GOP Candidate Says She Doesn't Believe in a "Livable Wage," and People Are Confused
Posted by Karen Handel on Monday, March 20, 2017
With the runoff election in Georgia only a few weeks away, the Republican candidate, Karen Handel, faced off in a debate with Jon Ossoff, the Democrat running against her. When the two were asked if they support the idea that minimum wage should be a livable wage, Handel responded with, "I do not support a livable wage."
Handel's remarks during the debate, which happened on June 6, didn't stop there; she continued with, "What I support is making sure we have an economy that is robust with low taxes and less regulation so that those small businesses that would be dramatically hurt if you imposed higher minimum wages on them are able to do what they do best: grow jobs and create good-paying jobs for the people of the 6th District." Ossoff, who responded first to the question, said, "The minimum wage should be a living wage . . . But look, if somebody's working a 40-hour workweek, they deserve the kind of standard of living that Americans expect." You can see a clip of the moment ahead.
Understandably, people didn't take Handel's comments well and couldn't understand the logic behind her statement.
someone explain, with a serious face, how paying people less creates better paying jobs for people who don't make enough to live on.
- John (@johnwjohnsoniii) June 7, 2017
Georgia's runoff election will take place on June 20. Handel and Ossoff are running to fill the vacancy in Georgia's sixth congressional district left by Tom Price, who joined President Donald Trump's administration on Feb. 10 as the secretary of health and human services.
Should You Pay Off Your Credit Card or Save?
If you use credit cards regularly, you may have experienced that feeling of dread when you see the amount owed on it steadily rising, followed by an interest charge that only gets higher. In an ideal world, we wouldn't be spending more than we can pay off each month, but sometimes that's just not doable, and debt starts racking up.
There are many ways to go about paying off a credit card, but should you be saving up money first, then working on ridding yourself of debt? Reddit and Quora users weigh in on what has worked for them, and you may be surprised at their answers.
- Pay debts down in order of interest rate, worry about saving later. "Always pay off the highest interest rate debt first, in that order, while paying the monthly minimums on the rest. Then repeat as you wipe out each debt. Besides saving for an emergency fund and contributing to your 401k to meet the company match, there is no point in saving or investing in anything else since the high interest rates of the credit cards and student loans eat up any gains you could get otherwise." - adle1984
- Save a little bit, but pay off your card ASAP. "Save a small amount of money, $500-$1,000, so you have some breathing room. Then pay off those credit cards because any debt you have costs you way more in interest than you will ever get in a savings account. Anything with a return with even half the cost of interest on a credit cards comes with risk." - Craig Shclieve
- Pay off cards unless savings pay a higher rate than your interest is costing. If your savings pay a higher rate than what you pay in interest on the debts, then save . . . otherwise pay off." - Dax Balladares
- Have an emergency fund while paying card costs. "You want to continue to pay minimum payments on the credit cards and put enough away for a few months worth of bills in case an emergency happens. Then focus on credit cards . . . With credit cards being paid off, you can use the money that was going towards those payments to save. - Dominique Wilson
- Sell something that will help you save money, then use the cash you're saving to pay off your credit card. Reddit user pkeane04 suggested selling something that you spend money on regularly - like a car, cable TV, expensive phone bill - and use the money you save from that to pay off the card. That being said, he still advised those in credit card debt to start by paying it off before starting to think about saving.
- Pay high interest debt, then save, then invest. "Once the high interest debt is paid off, then worry about building a cash buffer and investing. Point the stream at a savings account until you have enough to go a few months without work. Bad things happen and you need cash on hand to fix them . . . Once you've put out the credit card fires and filled up your savings account, then you can figure out what types of investments make sense to point your cash stream at next." - Eric Scott 13
The main takeaway: pay off debt first, start saving after. The amount of money you will be saving while still paying off cards will be essentially canceled out by the amount you are accruing in interest fees.
Why Is Attendance at Disney Parks on the Decline Worldwide?
Based on the perpetual 45-minute or more wait in line for Peter Pan's Flight at Disneyland, it's pretty hard to believe that the parks aren't boasting their best numbers ever. In fact, Disney park attendance worldwide declined last year - with the exception of Shanghai Disney, which just opened in 2016.
In an independent report by the Themed Entertainment Association and Aecom, data show that the amount of park-goers in 11 out of 12 Disney parks decreased between 2015 and 2016. Disneyland's attendance declined by almost two percent, while some international Disney parks saw even bigger drops. Disneyland Paris, for instance, saw a whopping 14 percent decrease in visitors.
So what's the reason behind this rare decline?
In an attempt to curb overcrowding issues at some of the parks, ticket prices have been increased at many parks, which is believed to be at least part of the change. Rising ticket costs for daily and annual passes could have deterred some visitors in the past year from attending the parks, or they could've opted to visit parks with lower costs.
It's also suspected that part of the decline in attendance at Disneyland Paris is due to the threat of terrorism in Europe, which is affecting general tourism across the continent. Disney told The New York Times that it is "investing behind the wealth of great franchises we have in order to deliver magical experiences that exceed our guests' expectations," citing ongoing construction projects at multiple parks as potentially having an impact on the numbers.
But is a decline in attendance actually a bad thing?
Intuitively, a decline in attendance could mean a decline in revenue from the parks, but this is Disney we're talking about, and it's got a strategy for just about everything. Revenue between 2015 and 2016 was actually up five percent at domestic (US) operations, which, according to the original report, reflects "increased guest spending, reportedly driven by higher average prices for admissions to theme parks and cruise line bookings, increased food, beverage, and merchandise spending, and higher room rates."
This means that while ticket prices, construction, and other factors may be discouraging some guests from attending the parks, the visitors who do come are still spending money and enjoying their experiences - perhaps more than ever before. Less overcrowding is never a bad thing for fans wanting to get in all their favorite things to do at the parks, and we're sure Disney has something up its sleeve to ensure that it is moving ever-forward, as always. The recent openings of the World of Avatar at Walt Disney World and the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disneyland are even more reasons tourists will be flocking to the parks in the near future. Attendance is expected to rise again in 2017.
18 Surprising Secrets From Former Disney Park Princesses
As much as many of us love Disney, we don't know too much about the ins and outs of the company. It's very protective of its brand to maintain the Disney magic, and cast members can even get fired for sharing backstage photos on social media. While we'd like to keep some of the mystery alive, we can't help but wonder about the other secrets we don't know about. So, we looked to iAMAs where we found a former Disneyland Snow White and a former Disney World cast member who played Mulan, Pocahontas, and Silvermist the Fairy. Let's start off by saying that being a Disney princess is no easy job, and becoming one is even more difficult. Check out 18 interesting secrets that are sure to surprise you.
1. Please tell me you sign as Disney character for receipts!
"I used to on accident! I signed 'Mulan' about 1000 times a day at work, you eventually get handed paper and do it without thinking."
2. Is it true that characters from different worlds can't acknowledge each other? Tigger wouldn't know who Cinderella is, for example.
"That isn't true. We are all in the Disney Universe. Unless our characters specifically don't know about each other (Tinkerbell hadn't met Peter Pan in her Direct-to-DVD movies, so as Silvermist, I didn't know who Peter Pan was and was supposed to act confused when guests would mention him to me), they can mix their stories. As Mulan, I would tell kids that Cinderella wanted me to bring something other than noodles to her tea party, so I'd ask them what food I should bring. It was always chicken nuggets."
3. Did you ever have kids tell you that you weren't the real thing? How did you handle that?
"Chinese people would always tell me to speak Chinese and I'd tell them that I bet Mushu if I could go an entire day without speaking Chinese, he'd feed the chickens for me tomorrow."
4. Is it true that many of the princes are gay in real life?
"Ohhhhhhhh, yeah."
"More than half. Maybe like 70/30? Of course, I didn't know all of them personally, but if I had to guesstimate, that's what I would say."
5. What's one of the weirdest things you've seen a coworker do while still dressed in a character costume?
"One time in the break room I saw Cinderella and Snow White fit comfortably under Tiana's dress, and when Belle came around the corner they popped out and scared her."
6. Do adults hit on you?
"I was hit on as Pocahontas more than Mulan or Silvermist, and it definitely has to do with the amount of clothing she's wearing. I've never been touched inappropriately, but there's always the family that makes the grandpa or the dad get a picture alone and they'd whisper how pretty I was or ask when I got off of work. I'd get slipped the occasional phone number on a napkin, but nothing ridiculous has ever happened. But it's probably a different story for the Princess Jasmines, who are wearing just a bra and parachute pants."
7. How did you feel when people would ask you for your autograph?
"Excited. Snow White has always been my favorite princess, but she's really underappreciated these days and a lot of people overlook her at the park. A lot of kids don't even know who she is, so it was always exciting when somebody wanted my autograph."
8. What kind of training are you put through for this job?
"Everyone is hired initially as the role Character Performer. You are not allowed to learn a 'face' role (the characters that talk to you) unless you have had training as a fur character first (costumed characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, etc.). It is probably different now than my training five years ago, but when I trained, I had five days of fur character training, which was three days of animation and autograph practice, and two days meeting guests as a fur character. After you are approved for the fur character training, you are allowed to move on to face character training. You have two days of training per face character you're given. Day one is watching the movie, learning how to walk, talk, and act, and day two is meet-and-greets with guests. I think there may be an additional day for accents (ex. Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins), but none of my three face roles had accents, so I'm not sure."
9. Whats your favorite thing that only employees get to do?
"I loved getting out of work and going to Epcot with my friends to drink around the world. I miss that the most."
10. Was it hard to maintain a "magical" attitude when you had bad days?
"It is like any job in hospitality. People are paying money to receive a certain experience, and your job is [to] accommodate them. If I was ever upset about something in my life, there would be at least one child/parent who would be so awesome and make me remember how great the job is. That sounds so stupid. But it's true. It's a cool job."
11. Who decides which role you portray and when?
"There is an entire casting team who chooses what role you play. You attend auditions, which involve acting like the character, dressing up like the character, and having photos taken of you. You then wait and they call you if you are approved. There are a lot of rumors involving the process of picking characters. You do not have any say in what character they fit you in. They do not tell you why you are not chosen for that character. You could look exactly like Cinderella, but if they do not need to hire any more Cinderellas, you may not get chosen. People lie about what happens at their auditions all of the time; 'they told me I was too fat,' 'they said my skin wasn't dark enough.' They never tell anyone these things. They either say yes or no."
12. Did you have a favorite character/costume?
"Chip & Dale are the most fun because all they do is troll people all day. Steal a water bottle? Everybody laughs. Sit in a stroller? Hilarious. Pretend to punch your character attendant in the testicles? BOY DO THEY LAUGH. They're so fun and people love them!"
13. What was the costuming routine like?
"You are scheduled to clock in one hour before your first meet and greet. This is when you do your makeup and get your costume on. They provide all of the makeup and each character has a specific makeup profile with specific colors. You're taught how to do the makeup in your training for the character."
14. What is the creepiest interaction you've had with a child? Adult?
"This will always be my number one creep Disney story: I was Silvermist and we were meeting our last family of the night in Pixie Hollow. Tinkerbell, Rosetta, and I were having fun with this little girl who was about five. Her mom was with her and the girl was being silly and running around laughing at us and talking a lot. You take individual pictures with the fairies, but we decided to ask if she wanted a special picture with all three of us. We stood together and the mom said, 'Stand between them!' The little girl all of a sudden got really shy, and ran to her mom and hid. Her mom said, 'Oh no, are you being a little stinker? I know, if you give mommy a lick will you feel better?' The little girl nodded and smiled. She then proceeded to lick her mom's face, from her chin to her forehead. She laughed, her mom laughed, and Tinkerbell, Rosetta, and me are standing there horrified at the M. Night Shyamalan twist this meet and greet has taken. The little girl happily walked over to us and took the picture after she did it. Never forget."
15. Are there any special perks of the job?
"It was cool to be able to go into the park with my friends whenever I wanted, get my family in for free, and get discounted stuff in the park all the time."
16. Have you ever ruined a kid's childhood by acting out of character?
"I worked a 14-hour day and saw the last family, who were nice, but I wanted to go home. They exited the room and I immediately pulled off my wig and went, 'Awwww yessss!!!!' The little girl ran back in and said, 'Bye guys! Bye Tinkerbell! Bye Silvermist! Bye Rosetta!' I was holding my weave in my hand. RIP child's dreams."
17. What was your favorite part of playing a face character, and which fellow FC was the meanest?
"I'd like to be able to say something like seeing the smiles on kids' faces was the best part (and that was definitely a perk, don't get me wrong), but honestly? The best part of playing a face character was the satisfaction of knowing that I was Snow White, and I beat out a lot of other beautiful, talented girls for the part. And I won't say any names, but there was a girl who played Tinkerbell that was just absolutely unbearable. Luckily we didn't cross paths much."
18. Is it true that characters have to go through autograph training, so that a Snow White autograph that you get today is the same as one that you got 30 years ago from another Snow White?
"Yes. It's part of the training program."
